Day 10 || “Magic Exhaustion”

As soon as the portal snapped shut, the boy collapsed. 

He was the last of the survivors to come through, the portal flickering dangerously as he stumbled into the diner, exhaustion and adrenaline clinging to his stocky figure. The stench of blood, grease, and hamburger meat hung in the air, nauseating to the new arrivals. Without the portal for illumination, the room was much darker and unsettling, casting a gloomy shadow over the other teenagers.

A fitting mood, for what they had just escaped from.

The rest of the group was scattered about, shaky and numb as their last connection to the outside world, to Diantha Rose as they knew it, shut off with a blink. Most didn’t pay the final boy’s appearance much attention, too busy as they scrambled to tend to the wounded. But one member in particular was hysterical, leaping to her feet and sprinting to his side. 

“Felix!”

Reagan let out a guttural scream as her brother reappeared, his legs buckling from underneath him almost instantly. She was just quick enough to scoop him into her arms as he crumpled, shivering and cold, the last of his strength sapped from his bones. 

“Felix- Felix, oh my- oh my god.” 

He was wheezing, breaths brittle and weak, barely making it past his lips. His face was scratched and bruised, something she hadn’t been able to notice while in the chaos of the school, running around desperately for an exit. Blood trickled down one of his temples, crimson smearing against his skin. His eyes fluttered, struggling against the waves of exhaustion that had begun to roll over him, the effort of the night finally hitting him. 

He was out before she even had the chance to say another word.

“Rory….” The boy’s voice was soft, cutting through the cold silence. He stared at the bright red blood covering his rough hands, unable to tear his gaze away. “I know this isn’t what you want.”

Screams for backup and the cold wind whipping through the air left Rory in a trance. It was loud. So loud. It hurt. Did their head always hurt this much? Her brows furrowed as she brought a hand to her head, attempting to soothe the aching feeling. Meanwhile the boy across from her slowly stepped closer.

“Both of us don’t want to do this.” His gaze was still on his hands. “This isn’t right.” His voice was rough, a byproduct of his vocal cords being unused for so long.

Rory knew Kuali’i was right. He always was when it came to matters that were hard to make decisions for. Inhaling shakily, he looked up from his palms. “We can get out of here.” “…And who’s gonna take us?”

“….” He knew she had a point. “Look at the blood around us Kuali’i. Look at the blood on your hands. We can’t go back anymore. We left them. They definitely won’t be welcoming us back with open arms.” She turned to face him. An amused smile was present on her lips, but her guilty eyes betrayed any sense of joy or comfort she tried to portray. Her head pounded, making her vision blurry. She shouldn’t have overworked herself.

“We don’t have to go back to the club. We can go hide somewhere else, just us.” He stepped forward, hand gently reaching out for hers. Red. His hand was covered with a bright red that nauseated her. The world was spinning. Everything shook. They looked at the blurry silhouette of his hand before stepping forward and taking it in their own. Their gaze quickly fell to their feet. “You’ll stay with me?” Her voice was meek, contrary to its usual bold and welcoming tone. “I will, always.” “Promise?” He gave her hand a gentle squeeze. “Promise.”

Her eyes met his.

In a matter of seconds, his mind went blank.

It was as if, just for a second, the screaming died down and the winds became peaceful.

“I’m sorry. It’s too late for us Kuali’i. For now, just stay with me please.” She softly caressed his knuckles before letting go, her thumb rubbing the blood that transferred from his hand to hers. Turning her back and walking forwards, their head continued to pound, this time worse than before.

As she shakily wandered back to the others, the only sound that Rory could make out were the echoing footsteps that followed behind her.

𖥔 Oh just wait until you find out what happens to Akali, Felix, and Winola after this arc ^^

𖥔 It’s probably super confusing how these guys all got so hurt since I’m pretty sure the only fic that I’ve seen you read is Della and Ensio’s death + Reagan’s kidnapping 💀💀. But to quickly summarize the first arc, all of these guys were in a secret Diole club called the Board Game Club, since being a Diole is illegal and Howard Restall, head of the GDEO, had created a mandatory vaccine that would instantly kill all Dioles, set to be released in a couple months. Around the time the vaccine was supposed to be released, all 12 of them got exposed (as you can see there aren’t 12 of them anymore 😇).

𖥔 If you wanna find out what happened to them in a bit more detail here’s the fic where they get exposed: The Winter Concert

𖥔 And to find out what happens to them while they’re in hiding I have a couple shorter fics: Arc 2: Chumps Jr.
