it’s two am and i am not sleeping again. so. casting for birds of prey: comics version

oracle played by margo gignac. this was a mega difficult decision bc i wanted barbara to be played by someone who was an actual wheelchair user + someone who looks like she could scold batman into submission. gignac fits that best i can do. i also think she has great hacking hands. i read gignac was a black belt somewhere & i think that’s great for someone playing babs too

black canary played by lindsay watson. it’s wig time babey! i specifically wanted to pick a dark haired actress because, even though dinah’s dying her hair by the time bop rolls around, i don’t forget her roots (pun totally intended). i wanted to pick someone who looked like she could kick an army’s ass and then scoop up a child & call them sister. watson fits the bill nicely. i think she has a kind face and her interviews speak to so much determination and willpower, which is the energy i want brought to dinah.

huntress played by tea falco. she’s an italian actress from sicily (like helena! who was born in the us but raised in sicily) who just has this look to her i really love, especially for bop huntress. she seems fun and beautiful and like a good teacher. i don't have a lot to say here, really. i looked at her face and went yeah that's huntress

lady blackhawk played by america ferrera. i think about zinda having a beer while huntress & canary destroy the bar & zinda walks away w the info theyre looking for. big america ferrera vibes. also i love the idea of lady blackhawk being played by an actress named america. also zinda’s hot & america ferrera’s hot i have no other notes here.

robin (tim drake) played by jay lycurgo. was titans supposed to be awful? yes. did i see lycurgo get cast and go DAMN THAT'S TIM. yes. he has that look in his face. that's all. also i saw him in the bastard child devil show on netflix and he gave off THEE BIGGEST tim drake energy there. i was very impressed. 1. Who's your favorite character and why? So I don't.... have one. I have a lot of characters that I like hyperfixate on? But I don't necessarily think I have a favorite. I definitely do have favorites but not one in particular. So like Ollie, Roy, Mia, Connor, Dinah, Emi, Jade, David, Pietro, Wanda, Terry, Kurt, etc.

Definitely a book with both Connor and Ollie teaming up as Green Arrow and sort of them working to find a balance in that dynamic for sure, definitely push and pull in their methods of being Green Arrow, sort of showcasing how they learn from each other

When Harley starts with “your protection is based on the fact that people are scared of you” you expect her to say that it’s wrong or something but she says “I’m the one they should be scared of” this movie messed with tropes so much

That also includes the whole “one bullet” thing—Harley misses with her one bullet, and you don’t really know what’s gonna happen next

You can pinpoint exactly when Harley and Roman realize what Cass did

I’d put the entire taco scene here if I could

Renee moving the drink away from cass shows her caring side—she doesn’t want a kid to get into alcohol and make the mistakes she did

Harley and Cass stealing the car is a fun way to show that she may be on the side of the good guys sometimes, but that doesn’t necessarily make her one

10. Wally West: Notice how like most of this list is going to be titans lmaooo. Wally is a really rad character but unfortunately is treated like shit because DC Hates Gingers. Also him and Linda are absolutely precious and a love story for the ages.

9. Stephanie Brown: The most badass Robin. By far and away. Hit Bruce. Doesn't put up with his shit. We had to stan!

8. Koriand'r: Not to sound like a total nerd (I say making a list of my favorite DC characters) but shes so fucking cool. Like an alien princess who shoots fire and light and shit? Dope. I love her and I refuse to expand on that.

7. Dick Grayson: I know it's surprising that Laney "I have 3 Dick Grayson posters" Redarro has him so low on the list, but there are a few arcs where he :/ isn't my favorite. I am very interested in him as a character and he's in like, all my favorite teams but he's always my second favorite on any given team, ya know? I love him but he isn't my no. 1 by any means

5. Kyle Rayner: My cinnamon apple! My fucking babey! He was the first superhero I got REALLY into when I was younger. I love his dialogue, his sense of humor; he's just really fun okay.

4. Jason Todd: Under the Red Hood is my favorite arc of any comic, the writing knocks the wind out of me EVERY time. Jason has so much potential for growth as a character and I would love to see a good author really give him the growth beyond "hurr de hurrr Batman should kill ppl" like he has so much potential!

3. Dinah Lance: The only ogJustice League member on the list bc we love her. When I was like, 4? my dad was giving me the run down of characters in DC and he was like "there's this girl who rides motorcycles and wears leather jackets and she has a scream so loud she can break glass" and my loudass little kid brain was like :O like I knew she was one of my favs. I love her characterizations and stories as a whole she's legitimately one of my favorites

2. Donna Troy: Donna is iconic in literally every sense of the word and has some of the most interesting stories. Her character is rich and I will literally never forgive early 2000's teen titans animated series for not including her. She's the heart of any team and the most badass character.

1. Roy Harper: I was about to chose Donna as no. 1, but for me when it comes down to it, I love Roy. I love his characterization, his sense of humor, and how human he is. Every time he gets punched down or dealt the shittiest cards, he always gets back up. I love his writing when he's not with Jason and I think he is genuinely the most interesting DC character and anyways I would die for him carryon
