Hellooo butter! What are your thoughts on Diluc as a senior? School or college au? 🤔 my friend and I were speculating this(+kaeya) and I thought your contribution to this topic would be just perfect!

okay. okay.

first of all, thank you for thinking that my contribution regarding this topic would be perfect. i am honored that you think that way, thank you for thinking that! 🤍✨

second — here, let me dump all the high school au concepts i thought about for diluc ( which may or may not have been already been written in my debut fic :D ):

In a modern au, hs student Diluc would be a "golden retriever"

He’s kind, gentle, and sweet. Man has good grades and perfect attendance. Charming and handsome to the point that he’s deemed as one of the ‘Campus Crushes.’ Well-liked and very popular. Dominates the basketball varsity team (he’s a team captain) and is often the MVP. Joins clubs that benefits his academics and is running for student council. One of the math wizards who partakes in school vs school competitions. Filthy rich.

Seriously, he’s the guy you usually find in those romcoms.

He who opens doors and waits for the other students to enter the cafeteria.

He who provides support to those who are nervous in reporting their chemistry presentations. He who offers his jacket quietly to that girl when she had blood stains on her skirt. 

He, who, has a smile that lights up the room and makes everyone’s hearts skip a beat.

His name is always the talk of the town 

His lockers filled with rose-scented letters & cheap chocolates every 14th of Feb 

The crowd cheers for his number when he gives them a 3 point shoot, 

Before proudly celebrating the well–deserved golden trophy with his team 

He who is sincere with his speeches regarding “changing the system.” 

Regarding unfair school policies, more renovations for campus facilities, and less homeworks for those who are unfortunate and come home late 

He who dreams of following his father’s footsteps 

By doing his best in school 

Even if it’s a simple thing like tutoring his friends when it comes to math 

Or something more complex when he’s the face of his batch to compete in academic competitions. 

And you bet that this man is favored by so many of his teachers

Bro posts something on social media and it probably gets a hundred likes and numerous supportive comments from friends and others.

He’s practically untouchable. And despite all the fame, he’s pretty private. ( and no one will ever mention how Diluc almost beat up some fools who bullied his younger brother for dreaming to become a pirate. )

He has everything and yet he can’t get the girl that he likes, because unfortunately, she— whose identity is private, for now—doesn’t seem to like him or even notice him

I like to think that Diluc has a lady friend who he can confide with. Maybe, in this case, it’s Lisa. One time, she was sitting beside him during lunch and was very much amused when she caught him staring at that one girl who laughed way too loud with her friends.

He was staring with a little flush and seemed to get a little timid whenever she passed by. 

Lisa couldn’t help but smile behind her fingers as she witnessed the beginning of a new chapter — a blooming flower.

Most people in Diluc’s life ( the judgmental and the nosey ), who think that they have opinions worth mentioning for, always think that they’re right: they expect Diluc to end up with someone like him – and yet he is besotted with that girl who played step foot with her friends outside their classroom despite the class rep reprimanding them to quiet down. That girl ( who had many dreams and becoming a director was one of them ) nearly got her camera confiscated when she was recording her friend climbing on the roof, as if her incident with her math teacher wasn’t enough ) and That. Girl. who somehow became his seatmate during their field trip when they both got late together and had to sit in front. That same girl who offered him if he would like some chocolates that she bought from duty free because it was her birthday soon.

That girl who laughed when she hit her head on the ground while playing basketball and was delivered to the emergency room afterward.

But despite all these “not-so charming flaws,” Diluc finds himself falling anyway.

He wants to try all sorts of things, and he imagines a future where she’s in it.

But he knows that he’s not that intriguing for her eyes. She doesn't seem to be interested in him or befriending him. Was it because he became hot and all sweaty during that one time in their field trip? When he awkwardly made conversation ( despite being praised for his articulate and cohesive speeches and arguments ? ) Was he way too boring and too ambitious for someone as spontaneous and going with the flow? Did he not tick all the checkboxes in her list of the Ideal Types that she wants to date? ( Kaeya informed him that she was sharing her ideal types with her friends, and him being curious was an understatement. )  

Because every time he sees her, she doesn’t bat an eyelash. She focuses so much on her friends and it seems that she has forgotten that she smiled at him during that field trip. When she commented on how the sunset looked beautiful behind him, when he was sitting on the window seat. 

He’s aware that she’s friendly but she’s not befriending him. :( 

And if people are going to ask you what happened between the two of you, perhaps, you’ll just raise a quizzical brow and tilt your head.

“Uhhh. . . What? Who? Ah. Him. The MVP guy? We became seatmates during the field trip and that’s it. We didn’t really talk because I slept throughout the whole ride. He was listening to music so I assumed he didn’t want to have a conversation with me. And I’m out of his league, so next question.”

( Diluc had earphones on but they were lowered down because he wanted to hear her small giggles — and, well. Ridiculous as it was, he was playing stupidly romantic love songs. Kaeya was right, maybe using Spotify premium once in a while wasn’t bad. )

Here’s another hs au concept:

So it starts like this: two fingers clutching a chess piece—a pawn, she recalls—and lips pursing in thought, you inadvertently sigh in defeat and simply put it on a black square. 

However, you confidently eye him anyway and grab his queen piece. You declare a “Checkmate!”

And the guy—the guy who’s sitting right across from you—with the wild, beautiful red hair tied in an elegant ponytail, releases an amused chuckle. You’re sure that the girls watching from the sidelines just swooned from that and you mentally roll your eyes. 

“Last time I’m aware, that’s not how the game works. That’s not how the queen moves.” 

His voice is deep and nice to hear. But the irritation boiling in your gut shoves that comment away and you cross your arms with puffed cheeks. 

“That’s how this queen moves,” You stand from your seat and take your bowl of soggy french fries from Potato Corner. “Checkmate.”

And from that very moment you leave — you think it’s a cool exit, because you know you’ll never see him again, and you’ll never play Chess again, because there are a lot of students in your high school with quirky hair and even stranger personalities. 

Like, who even randomly starts a chess duel during lunch, and in Mondstadt High’s quadrangle? Apparently, that guy. 

You don't really understand why a lot of students are drawn to him so much, especially your classmates. You don’t hide your disdain of course, but your amazing friends decided to pull something underneath their arses to somehow make you meet the guy. Make you meet the guy you weren’t really interested in getting to know. Even if he was quote unquote, a 10.

Thus, leading to that unexpected encounter—them registering your full name when the guy was searching for another player to duel with. For fun.

And you didn’t really know how to play chess, but you were in the mood for some shenanigans, so. . . that happened.

( tldr: u had an interesting meeting with diluc and thought u will never meet him again but then he becomes ur romeo to ur juliet when u joined the theater club. shenanigans ensue. )

i hope this is enough to satiate the people who want a part 2 of the hs au diluc <3 also, it's up to anyone's interpretation if they wonder if my debut hs au fic for him would end up with the reader.

The world stopped in that single instant.

Why was this happening?

Just a minute ago Kaeya and Diluc had been fighting back-to-back, moving in complete synchronization as they fought of some Fatui skirmishers that had made their home at the base of Dragonspine. They had long since known that there were Fatui camping out on the mountain, and said organization hasn’t done anything that would have warranted a visit from the Knights—not until recently, at least. These skirmishers did not take kindly to Kaeya trying to schmooze them so they can spill what the hell they were even doing there.

For some reason, Diluc was there too, having followed Kaeya along yet hung a distance back as to let the Knight do his job (and presumably also to avoid the risk of Kaeya incessantly pestering him).  That’s fine, he can play back-up all he wants.

Though, the sight of flaming hair really set off these skirmishers, recognizing Diluc for who he was: Snezhnaya’s #1 wanted criminal and persona-non-grata. Technically speaking, the Fatui had no right to bring Diluc with them to the Cryo Archon’s lands. They had absolutely no jurisdiction here. Yet, they had enough cojones to try and take care of him themselves.

Thus began the fight between the Cavalry Captain, the Vigilante, and the Fatui.

One wouldn’t think that they’d work so well in a fight together, that they’d just clash and only make the entire situation worse—but they grew up together. They trained together to become Knights. Diluc would know Kaeya’s movements by heart, and while it took Kaeya a while to catch onto the older man’s style with his claymore, he was quick to learn. And so they fought with everything they got, shifting between each other like water as they swapped sides to land their hits or block some for the other.

Until now.

A pyro gunner had situated himself in the distance, somewhat hidden due to the commotion his comrades were in the middle of. The only reason Diluc had managed to see him was due to the glint of the gunner’s scope. As the last skirmisher (that was in close-quarters) fell, the blazing inferno of a man shoved the Captain away as a loud ‘bang’ rang out through the base of the mountain.

Before Kaeya knew it, he was down on the snow-covered ground, with the young Master’s body slumped on top of his own. The Captain was frozen, unable to even begin parsing what just happened—until he felt warmth seep from Diluc and onto his own clothes.

Sharply inhaling, he moved the man that had once burned so brightly off of himself and onto his back, taking stock of his injury, noting the blood blooming and staining his already dark coat to black. Kaeya looked down at himself and saw the crimson staining his white and blue outfit, a stark contrast on his form.

He had been shot.

“—Diluc. Diluc—answer me… Hey!”

Panic rose within Kaeya as he suddenly felt so nauseous, bile threatening to rise up his throat. He whipped his head around towards the direction he heard the rifle go off, but the Fatui filth had long departed. Damn him.

Damn him!

Looking back down at the man whose life continued to escape him, Kaeya quickly tried to put pressure on the wound after removing his cloak and fur stole. He doesn’t care if it they’ll be unsalvageable, he doesn’t care if the chill of Dragonspine would seep into his bones, he doesn’t give a single fuck! If Diluc can’t be salvaged, then what use were they to him anyway?!

“Diluc—Luc, please—. Please, Lulu, just hang on. I have you, I do, I promise! Don’t you dare die on me, stupid brother!” he yelled before crying out for someone, anyone to help them. To hear his pleas and to save his brother. Please, not again.

Not again… He can’t lose him again. Not for good.

( ✨ ) HIS SHOULDERS ROSE at the bite back but the elder had little fire in him right now to return back with his own. he was exhausted , burnt out from the weekend away and coming back to end up in a heavy conversation he didn't want to have. he'd rather just . . he wished kaya would join him ---- the arguments would cease and he'd finally understand why he went to the lengths he did.

IT WAS A silly hope. kaya had grown close to the people here. fell in love. gained connections that would be useful if he didn't know him better. he could never use them himself without getting the eye from his twin : the wedge between them was big enough already. it was dangerous to pile up more.

HE TENSES UP as kaya's grip tightened around him , suddenly on edge that he would be trapped suddenly ( a reaction that he realizes is less than ideal when it came to his brother ) but relaxed when his mind caught up with him and reminded that he was safe here. his eye , at this point half lidded , finally closing and clenching shut as he gripped tight to kaya like he was a life line. he refuses to cry even as he feels the burn begin , his nose scrunching as he grit his teeth tight as shaky exhales left him.

HE'S IMPORTANT. is he ? perhaps he is but he is in all the ways that he wished he wasn't. he wished he wasn't chosen to . . be bigger and bring about a revival of their home. he could never put that on kaya's shoulders --- he'd already been through enough with expressing the truth to diluc. and look how that turned out. no , he refused to involve him in any thing else that could muddy waters further and get him hurt again.

HE DIDN'T WISH to weep but the wish became all but dust in his hands at the kiss pressed to the side of his head. a soft keen escaped the elder afterward , almost sounding inhuman as he shuddered , tears beginning to flow as he quietly sobbed and listened to what kaya had to say. mater would be so disappointed if he dragged him into it --------- he didn't want to be alone but this burden was too much.

HE HIDES FOR minutes at a time , saying nothing but the soft whimpered sobs that didn't sound right coming from him came from him. he wanted to go home. he wanted mater. this was for her and everyone else that he ripped pieces upon pieces of himself for the Prince of the abyss order. it would be worth it.

RIGHT ?

More and more he continued to pile on and struggled to put it down. Things that Kaya couldn’t agree with, but that Kaea believed would be the best for them; for him.

Things that brought him back with less of his humanity compared to the last time.

Kaya’s arms tightened around the older one, pulling him in ever closer while a hand moved itself to the back of his head, fingers carding through midnight locks. His head pressed against the other’s, his nose burying into familiar tresses as he just breathed slowly, shutting his eye and swallowing down a lump that had formed in his throat.

He had been negligent. Perhaps if he had been there for Kaea more, instead of being the weaker of the two in both constitution and will, they wouldn’t be here. If he had grown a backbone sooner rather than later, if he had been stronger and just a little more independent so that Kaea didn’t always have to feel so responsible for him… Maybe he would have been able to lessen the burden on his shoulders.

“You are important.”

Pressing a kiss to the side of his head, his lips curled inwardly as he bit them to try and tamper down the feeling of wanting to weep. “You’ve always been important; you are the most important person to me in the entire realm. What good am I without you? You are my other half, frater, and you’ve done so much for me ever since we were born. I’ve never been fair to you, I’ve never lightened the load, I’ve never given you the same solace you’ve given me—I’ve never assured you that you don’t have to constantly be my pillar. Not without my support.

“So it’s why I’m always worried over you, it’s why I’m always afraid for you, because I never know when you might break. I never know when it’ll all turn out to be too much, and I lose you forever, especially when it all could have been prevented. I wouldn’t be able to live with myself. So, please… Let me be there for you. Let me support you, let me lighten the burden. We’re not children anymore, and I’m not frail and weak. Diluc

You two finished on his soft, cloud-like manor bed, and after some drowsy cuddling, he is the first to get up

It’s late into the night and most of the manor is asleep, so he goes and fetches towels and warm water himself

He’ll find you were he left you on his bed, and he’ll tell you to just relax, that you’ve been amazing and now it’s his turn to make sure you’re comfortable

The redhead will roll up his sleeves, gently wiping the towel between your curves, his eyes soft

Diluc will take special care towards your sensitive regions, making sure you’re clean as a baby, so he can cuddle you more later

If you desire a bath, then he will personally fetch wood and water and use his own flames to bring the water to a comfortable temperature

The next day he’ll baby you, staying by your side the entire day and make sure you’re happy

Kaeya

He was rough with you the entire night, teasing, edging, and just outright playing with your body. Not that you mind, there’s a reason you’re with this man after all

And that’s because he knows just exactly how to turn you on, exactly how to make your squirm for him

The two of you are breathless by the time he finishes, having gone a few rounds without any rest (this ice man has stamina)

He barely manages to roll out of bed, out of your arms to start up the shower

Or maybe you two just end up asleep like that. Honestly, sometimes he just finds it too comfortable on the bed with you, and ends up refusing to move

Once you do get cleaned up, however, he’s got the bed made, newly ironed sheets, some wine for the night, and snacks if you so wish

Eventually both of you would fall asleep, and the next day he’d be out and about before you even wake up, his side of the bed still slightly warm with the faint hint of mint

You may find him at the Favonius hq or out and about getting some confidential errands done, and if he catches your gaze, however busy he might be, he’ll send you a playful wink, possibly even indulging in himself and giving you a quick peck on the lips

Childe

First of all, he’s messy

For clarification, Childe does not mind nor care where he finishes

The precious time he has with you is a time for him to completely unwind. It’s a place where he does not need to worry about his job, his family, and can just be himself

This man goes wild

If you’re ok with it, he’d love seeing you in fancy lingerie sponsored with his own money, spread out just for him

That also means he ends up doing laundry a lot

Oftentimes once you two finish for the night, he’ll plead you into the showers with him—sometimes to actually get cleaned, and sometimes for some steamy shower action

His excuse would be to wash some of uh, his filth off of you, only to end up massaging your tits, ass, whatever you’re willing to share with him at the moment

He’d roughly dress you up into his shirt and impatiently head to bed, ready for a night of spooning

Childe would run his hands all over you to memorize all your curves and dips, for those nights when he can’t make it home to you

If he could have it his way, Childe would love to do the deed anywhere and everywhere, so long as his siblings or colleagues aren’t around, and with your consent

Zhongli

This man did research

He was a bit apprehensive about the current culture, fearing his experiences may be outdated, so he went ahead to consult with Xingqiu on books about this

And so when you two actually finishes, he sweeps you off the bed and brings you to a prepared bathing room, a warm bath already drawn, with osmanthus and rose petals floating about

He has a variety of handcrafted soap by the side and insists on washing for you

He’ll join you in the tub, entirely focused on allowing you to relax, but you would just end up leaning against his chest, admiring how his hair swirls in the waters

He’d find whatever you do adorable at the moment, and will end up just relaxing with you, maybe humming a soft tune, musing of a poem on spot, or sharing a tale of his in the past, of faraway mountains and land

If you fall asleep, he’ll wipe you down and allow you to rest in his arms for the night, neither of you dressed, but that’s how he likes it

Itto

Your man Itto, if you’re lucky, you two did it in an actual room

Yes. Sometimes he ends up impatient right out there in the wild with the grass and trees, but not today

He would be surprisingly quiet when it comes to after care, at least compared to his normal attitude, checking time and time again if you need anything

He’ll jump to trying to clean you first, ignoring himself, which often creates the interesting scenario of his dong swinging about as he attempts to take care of you

Not that you mind, probably, because that’s why you’re with him—because you adore how innocent and kind Arataki Itto is, despite trying to be a hardened gang leader

He’ll roast lavender melon in case you’re hungry, bring his favorite beetle for emotional support, and yoink some of Kuki’s clean sheets for the night

Honestly at this rate, after all that, he’ll probably forget to take care of himself, so you end up brushing through his mane, as he leans back into you

Itto would look up at you with the widest grin, simply appreciating the view and commenting just how lucky he is to have found you

Thoma

This man will have everything already laid out and prepared

He knows your quirks, maybe it’s food and water, maybe it’s a steamy shower, or maybe it’s cuddling! Whatever you need, he has it ready to go. You have no idea how he manages to do this every time, it just always seems to work out so perfectly, because it’s Thoma

He’ll pepper you with kisses, the two of you an absolute giggling mess, and convince you to shower, so that you’re clean and comfortable

Should you be too tired, he’ll playfully pick you up and assure you that you don’t need to do anything, just stay with him, and he’ll proceed to get you through your routine

He’ll fall asleep with his arms around you, head tucked into his chin

You’ll wake up to the sweet smell of breakfast right there by your bed stand, and Thoma guiltily trying to sneak back into bed for more cuddling

His favorite place to put his arm is around your torso, that way he can snuggle his nose into your hair, and stay as physically close to you as possible

Okay, wait, wait, wait….

First off I’m picking Aether.

1: he has the highest stats so far, which I think is interesting. I’m actually surprised, while I didn’t think he was easy going like bennett, I thought he would be more tolerant in terms of surprises, I guess I was proven wrong.

2: BECAUSE his stats are so far high, I’m genuinely worried what’s gonna happen since we’ve almost reached 25% for the insanity stat, and have reached past 15% for both envy and insanity, and that also has consequences…. In fact, his stats are literally higher than Childe AND Xiao. Like, his first scene was the ignored phonecall and THAT rose his stats 15% or at least made it TO 15%. He also seems to be also have a harder affection bar, since his leveled by 3 instead of 5 (or maybe it’s just because there were other people there…)

I’m going to make guesses on the four traits, purely off of previous scenes, and the highlighted text:

Kaeya’s trait is scheming related, since his insanity literally decreases when he scoped out the competition. Someone that wants to be on top of what’s happening, and has a need to know EVERYTHING. So… perceptive??? (Sorry, I don’t know a better word at the moment 😭)

Diluc’s trait, from what I can tell when I looked back is that he’s either protective or a provider. Since his insanity stat decreased when we drank the…. Love…. Mix (I wasn’t here since the beginning, but oh my gooood, did he mixed his 😟 in there???) He also didn’t exactly seem to be TOO jealous that senpai is literally sitting Aether’s lap

Bennett is a bit harder, and I don’t exactly have a word for it. But I bet that if we start scolding him for anything, mostly about his bad luck, I think it’ll start raising his stats, so maybe someone that seeks approval, since he likes it when everyone gets along (edit: I went and looked at Bennett’s profile, and yep, approval-seeking to the tee)

Aether…. Hmm. Clingy and attention seeking for senpai. He hates being ignored and HATES when you breach a promise. “Neglecting” him causes his stat to increase quite drastically. Which makes me think he doesn’t exactly…. Have a stable personal relationship (*cough* Lumine *cough*). Perhaps he uses senpai to fill a hole in his heart….

 He’s not sure what makes you so special compared to everyone else. What makes you so utterly special to him, the pit of his stomach filled with butterflies whenever he even so much as think about you. you were nothing more then a worker at the inn, and only treated him as a friend – something he was okay with. The sight of you gets his heart racing. Your fingertips were always so soft, when they trace over his tattoos, telling him tales that were told to you. you were the only person who he allowed to touch him so freely. The only person who he allowed to play with hair, at times, cheeks a soft shade of pink when your nails scrape across his scalp lightly. Voice that can send him to a delightful slumber when you would sign to him. Eyes that sparkle with life, reflecting his form in those clear orbs of yours. He was utterly in love with you, crazy about you.

It only took him a year and a half to realize and accept this fact.

“I swear on the Seven, you can be so dense.” A gloved finger twirls a strand of your hair. Sleeping in front of a man – a male – like this, snoring so lightly that one would have to be quiet to hear. Everything you do to him and yet, you are none the wiser. Xiao was many things, and you can break him into nothing without even trying. Without wanting to. You were so dense. All of his advances towards you always go over your head, simply taking it an act of friendship. It would have been flatter, if he hadn’t been giving you roses that were as bright as the blush on his cheeks. He remembers that day in sour thoughts while you remember it with fond memories. The roses were well taken off by you once you took the gift, hands brushing against his. Did you not notice the blush that decorated his cheeks? Or the way he avoided your gaze? But how? It irritates him to no end – all he wants is to make you his. But clearly, the Archons had different plans in mind for him…

“I said I love you, yet you took it as innocent, platonic love,” he kisses your forehead. Xiao was a great number of things, and he deals with death. But you deal with life, in a sense. You make everything glow and grow, including his love for you. Such a shame that you won’t realize it, though. You just won’t take the hint, and it irks him to end. It’s a battle he intends to win, but it’s proving to be difficult. He heaves, head dipping down to look at his lap. Sitting on your bed as you sleep – he prefers to hold you in his arms. But…

A finger traces over your neck. “I can easily choke and kill you, if I so wished for it.”

There is a part of him that loathes you.

Or rather, the dense part of you.

And he wants to ruin it. To ruin you.

Xiao is a number of things. He is something that is twisted and ugly on the inside. Something that is pure chaos. Something that can and will if edged to, rid of everything. You don’t know this, nor do you know about the missing men in the city. But that was okay. It’s better this way, with your unaware self about his true nature.

“For your sake though, I hope you realize and accept the fact that I am in love with you.”

There's an absurdity there, he knows: a wine tycoon who didn't sample his own product? A bartender who never touched the very thing that kept him in business?

But... He's seen what alcohol does to people. He sees it every single night. And truthfully, he simply doesn't enjoy the feeling. He doesn't think he'll ever come to enjoy it.

Why was that such a problem for everyone else to understand?

Now, it didn't take any sort of clairvoyance to figure out that something was on Kaeya's mind when it was so obviously scribbled across his face, and it was only when he brought up that night that the redhead finally looks at him good and proper, brows narrowing.

He wants to call it out for what it is: unfair.

He had just lost his father. Whilst the circumstances didn't excuse his own reaction, Kaeya could have equally exercised some tact.

If it wasn't obvious that he deeply regretted and understood the gravity of his actions, then perhaps his brother never really knew him at all.
