first off, its a long one, and you will be actively moving for over 2 hours (and I do mean active) so you might need to time yourselves before starting Natlan AQ4.

seeing a monster and death counter was haunting. Both of those rising as i proceed was haunting

being given a choice where to go and knowing you not going to the other location could mean that group's death was also haunting

arriving too late to several locations and seeing all of those dead bodies scattered was haunting

chuychu's death was so damn painful, and chasca's reaction hurt too (im thinking of Kaeya and Diluc in that position so I hurt myself more

finding out vichama died was a slap to the face but hey, at least he and his friend are together again

the cutscenes were cool but my tears made them hard to see so i might need to watch them on youtube later

hearing a baby saurians cries as the lone survivor... hnghh...

the will to fight, the kindness and compassion from everyone. it really motivated me to go crazy despite fighting the abyss for OVER AN HOUR

i wanna talk about visions. specifically, kaeya's vision.

this will contain spoilers for the caribert archon quest, as well as spoilers for kaeya's backstory.

(VERY short summary at the bottom btw)

people get visions for different reasons, though it's all based on ambition. there are subcategories for each element, which makes each character of a specific element different.

anemo is for those who have lost someone close to them (like barbatos).

geo is given to people who are strong-willed or hardheaded (like morax).

electro is given to those who are different/cast out [like beelzebul (she was much different than baal)].

I think dendro is given to people who are dedicated to perfecting their skills? I'm not sure on this one but it seems right looking at dendro characters.

hydro is given to people with a strong belief system.

pyro is typically given to people with fiery passion.

and cryo is given to people who have faced conflict. mainly internal conflict (ex. self-hatred, self-deprecation, etc.). it is also given to people who have been isolated or cast out (like ayaka).

but I think that their visions work in different ways for those reasons, too. for example, yoimiya wanted a vision to light fireworks, and her vision gave her the ability to imbue her arrows with pyro energy (allowing her to light them safely from a distance). sucrose was experimenting with anemo energy when she got hers, and she can now freely throw around anemo energy whenever and wherever she wants (she probably uses it most in the lab). beidou got hers after fighting haishan (a deadly sea monster) and she can now parry powerful attacks with ease (something you'd want when fighting huge monsters).

but then there's kaeya. he definitely fits the internal conflict aspect of getting a cryo vision. he (very obviously) hates himself, and he was indeed cast out from his own family. he got his vision when fighting his own brother, and he was literally on the brink of death. if he hadn't gotten his vision in that moment, there would be no kaeya.

let's talk about what his vision does in particular, and why it does those things.

first off, it all seems very, very simple. his skill shoots out a burst of frost, and his burst makes a few icicles.

burst first: they are an obvious reference to the abyss. when cryo abyss mages are reforming their shields, there are icicles flying around them. this is a reference to kaeya's heritage as a descendant of chlotar alberich, the founder of the abyss order.

now, his elemental skill: it shoots out a burst of ice, almost like it's meant to stop an oncoming blast of fire...sound familiar? (*COUGH* DILUC'S BURST *COUGH*) but that's not all it does. his passive, cold-blooded strike, makes his skill heal kaeya. nobody else, just kaeya. hm...i wonder why he'd need to self-heal? (*COUGH* DILUC *COUGH* SELF-HATRED *COUGH*) but wait, there's more! kaeya's c4 (which I recently got) makes him SUMMON A SHIELD when his hp gets below a certain percent...and it only shields him. if you switch characters, the shield disappears until kaeya is back on the field. hm...why would kaeya need a shield when his health gets so low... it's almost like his vision was suited to the EXACT circumstances as when he got it. self-healing and self-shielding. his vision is catered to his fight with diluc.

now that begs the question: why did kaeya, a KHAENRI'AHN, get a vision? the gods hate khaenri'ahns, and celestia eradicated them. and here's the thing: im not sure who exactly gives out visions. it could be celestia, or it could be the archons themselves. so, it's either:

the cryo archon saw potential, or

celestia wants to use him to eradicate the abyss

it's pretty much common knowledge that kaeya's vision is different, and you can't say it's because he's khaenri'ahn. scaramouche was born in inazuma, but has a sumeru vision. this means that the vision case denotes the nation the vision was received in. that's why kaeya has a mond-style case. but why two wings instead of one?

i think it's a marker. so that when celestia decides to finally start yet another war, they know which mond citizen is their little pawn. they know which khaenri'ahn not to kill. they want to use him, to show them that their founder's descendant has learned to live (semi) happily in teyvat.

but hey it's just a theory and this was all done with like. zero research, just my general knowledge on kaeya and his backstory (i love kaeya so general knowledge is. a lot.). i repeat: it's all just theoretical. don't take this as fact I just love kae so so so much and think about him all the time <3

anyways to summarize, kaeya's vision acts the way it does because it's a self-defense mechanism from when diluc almost killed him. and I think it looks different because celestia wants to use him.

ok actulaly im not done as previously mentioned ANOTHER THING i disagree with is the very common hc that kaeya's dad was abusive even tho we know next to nothing abt this guy. or rather, i disagree with how the hc is handled. bc while theres nothing wrong with exploring the topic of abuse and the effects it has on its victims, almost all the time, kaeya having an abusive father is just turned into angst fodder for the ragnvindr family to comfort. he gets flattened as a character to show off how kind crepus and diluc are and how good they are for taking him in, compared to his Horrible Monster of a birth father. it feels very white savior-like, especially coupled with the idea that khaenriah is brutal and cruel and kaeya was a victim to both it and his father, only to be "saved" by the ragnvindrs. kaeya has complex emotions regarding his father, both adopted and birth, and it feels worth exploring rather than "kaeya had a shitty dad but its fine he has a new family and everything is ok bc theyre so nice to him"

how would Diluc and Kaeya feel about there S/O (dating) not liking the knights or cat’s tale because they use child labor ( Mika Klee (although doesn’t really do much they are still exposing her to Hiliturlls, and treasure hoarders so child, fighting, criminals and demons) and Diona( I think that’s how you spell the little cat girls name) etc.) if you like more details, you can Google some basic child labor laws that I don’t think Tavit has.

tbf this was a little complicated for me bc there's def a certain suspension of belief that takes place for institutions that exist w/in fantasy/fiction - ive always operated off the belief that in situations like this there are a lot of adults in play who are making sure kids aren't being hurt/taken advantage of and thats how im basing this. that, plus the whole thing in writing in general where youth is romanticised and that being the main crux as to why all characters are so young if theyre doing something interesting is a whole other thing but i hope that makes sense!

Both of them can see where you're coming from and that your criticisms of the system are valid. Diluc gets a bit more leniency from you because you know that despite Diona's views on him, Diluc's always keeping an eye out for her because he knows how drunks can get but she's also very stubborn so he's not sure how he, a random adult man that she hates, can effectively get her to leave the bar. He agrees with you that the environment is not good for her but he can't do much without her rebuking him so he just keeps her safe and makes sure nothing bad happens to her.

Kaeya is a little harder. He's aware of your issues but also tries to remind you that Klee is a "knight" but also nobody really lets her do things because they know she's a child. She just goes off on her own when nobody's looking and with all the work they have to do it's very difficult to babysit her when she's as energetic as she is. Mika is a little different because he's not meant to be in active combat - he just runs into monsters but usually is never alone specifically for that risk. Kaeya really does do his best to make sure Klee and other younger members of the knights are kept safe but it's also not his decision all the time.

If the issues with the institution of the Knights is too much for you, the two of you may end up arguing more than initially anticipated. He knows that there's flaws in the system but he also can't do much about it. He does what he can behind the scenes but if it starts sounding to him like you think he's not doing enough he might just get frustrated and tell you that he can't do any more because he simply doesn't have the resources to build up the whole system again.

vampire!ayato who seemingly makes it his personal mission to tease you, his adorable beloved human, with the light grazes of fangs and soft lips along the surface of your skin, a chuckle or two arising upon sensing the increase in body temperature or appearance of goosebumps following in his wake.

he would also greatly enjoy moonlit strolls, your hand caressed within the confines of his own as you both venture out on a trip with no destination, only the comfort of the other's presence being your guide (there's an uncanny thrill in the unknown, but ayato finds himself most excited and surprised when in the throes of his newfound mundane life, never once experiencing a dull moment when by your side.)

vampire!dainsleif who is so very cautious with matters concerning you — more specifically, with how he acts around you. he's careful in your presence, perhaps fearing you'll crumble if he holds you too tightly, or slip away if he's too feather-light with his touch. with some reassurance and much-needed affection, perhaps you can get through to him you won't be going anywhere without him beside you.

there's a haunting beauty to him, one that never fails to make you gape in awe and cradle his cheeks with such tender adoration he can almost feel the weight of centuries upon centuries remove its heavy burden, attention honed into your smile and the affection diffusing from your palms into his moon-kissed cheeks (dainsleif finds his cold heart blooming with forgotten warmth when basking in your gaze and smile, a flutter once lost now returning full force alongside the desire to remain with you for as long as time will allow; even then, he will find a way to stay with you beyond that.)

i have thought about this awhile ago, and i really think he would make his feelings known after taking care of me drunk LMAO.

to provide some context, i have to go back a bit. but basically it follows his story quest and me taking care of him after his exhausts himself of his foul legacy. i find him bc i was with him and traveler and then i help him back to the guesthouse. he’s stubborn and says he doesn’t need help but i am also stubborn and refuse to leave him (but only to get medicine).

i think he’s a little worried and scared that i think of him as a monster after seeing the form he had, but i tell him that i don’t see him as any different from before and im not scared of him. but i do tell him ill be mad if he doesn’t let me help him. after he finally agrees, i use my healing abilities to help him get well.

the first feelings he has, he is lowkey territorial. he doesn’t want anyone else to be helped or taken care of by me the way he is. the way i care for him makes him feel worthy and special. it confuses him a little because he’s not used to it, but doesn’t mind it with me.

once he is better, one night in liyue we went out for food and drinks as his way of thanking me. i tried to impress him w drinking several shots of firewater (btw this is inspired by diluc passing out just so you know) but eventually becoming too sleepy and drunk to take myself home. T_T

so then it was his turn to take care of me, and because i didn’t have any clothes, he let me wear his own. i think seeing me asleep in his own clothes made his heart rate spike and he kinda knew in that moment he was screwed bc then all of his feelings for me came to the surface.

after that night, i’d say he started making more direct signs that he was into me, but i am VERY oblivious and didn’t recognize them. he set up a dinner where he cooked for me (i tried inviting traveler and zhongli, but he made it explicitly clear that it just be the two of us) and after we ate, he confessed then.
