TAGLIST: @crescentmoonnn + @deeomi + @esthelily + @mshope16 + @nerdiel-has-no-braincells
A/N: sorry for the wait, i've been struggling with the biggest writer's block as of february :") here's the long-awaited chapter, please enjoy ^^
As you walked off the plane and step foot onto the arrival hall of Liyue's airport, you combed some stray locks of hair falling into your face. Sitting through a five-hour flight while sending emails and settling a whole load of paperwork (which had been uploaded onto an online folder courtesy of your secretary Giselle) had you red-eyed and ready to take a good three-hour nap. You were presently on a business trip to meet a partner who was keen on investing in your company to expand and establish a branch of its own in Liyue. The said partner in question was Fatui Network, a trading company renowned for having a seemingly shrewd CEO who had the 'magic touch': any business she was interested in and chose to invest in seemed to turn out successful, and you were hoping for good things when she reached out to contact you when you chose to expand your business.
You were scanning the crowd for the person who was arranged to pick you up when you spotted a gingerhead in the crowd waving eagerly at you. You raised an eyebrow up at him and he gave wide, exaggerated nods as if to say "Yes, it's me!".
You dragged your luggage over to him and gave him a quick once-over. The man was fair-skinned with blue eyes that seemed to have seen many things in life despite his young exterior. He wore a bright smile which exuberated a youthful and bright energy. You greeted him with a smile and extended a hand for a handshake, "Nice to meet you. I'm [F/N] Ragnvindr, CEO of Aster Cosmetics. You must be the representative from the Fatui Network, right?"
The gingerhead grinned and shook your hand back, "I'm actually one of the directors there. The name's Ajax Tartaglia, nice to meet you."
You raised your brows and drew your hand back along with him, "I didn't think your CEO would send a director to meet me."
"Oh, we must," Ajax said, "You're a valuable business partner of ours. It's only right for one of the higher-ups to pick you up and show you around."
"That's kind of you, please deliver my sincerest thanks to your CEO," you smiled.
"That, I will," Ajax smiled, "Now, shall I show you to your hotel?"
Ajax proved himself fun to be around: he was a great conversationalist and naturally made you feel at ease. He made you feel as if both of you were friends for a long time even though you had just met less than an hour ago. He was different from the usual directors that you met on business talks and trips, and he was like the breath of fresh air you never knew you needed.
"Speaking of, Mr. Tartaglia, isn't the Fatui Network based in Snezhnaya?" you asked as the taxi the both of you were riding up pulled up to the hotel.
"We are, but I flew down a few days ago to check in on our Liyue branch," Ajax explained.
Both of you stepped out of the taxi and he rounded to the back to retrieve your luggage.
"You are the hands-on type, I see," you said with a teasing smile.
"It's good to see to things personally," Ajax smiled, rolling your luggage beside him as the both of you stepped into the hotel.
The lobby was grand and sparkling, with a huge glittering chandelier hanging from the ceiling as a centerpiece. There were sofas placed round small tables, with a vase of flowers on top of each table. The floor was covered in dark marble and it was so smooth and shiny that one could see their own reflection against it.
As Ajax went up to the service counter to get your room booking, you pulled out your phone to check your text messages. Just a few from Jean and Kaeya, but none from the person you were hoping to hear from. A slight pang of disappointment filled the pit of your stomach as you sighed through your nose. You were delusional for actually hoping for a response from him, were you not?
"Mrs. Ragnvindr, are you ready to go?"
You snapped your head up to see Ajax waving your key card idly inbetween his fingers and you shot him an apologetic smile.
"Apologies, I'm coming," you slipped your phone back into your purse and took quick steps to catch up to Ajax, pushing the thoughts of him into the back of your mind.
Despite the small little blemish that was the disappointment you felt earlier in the day, Ajax seemed to wash it all away by distracting you with the itinerary he had planned for the day. He had chosen good restaurants and cafés to have lunch and dinner and went through your proposals during the short coffee breaks.
All the distractions wore off once you were back into the confines of your hotel suite. The room was booked based on your husband's terms, which were pretty adamant demands according to Ajax.
What use is giving me a luxurious room when I've got no one to share it with? You sighed as you peeled your heels off and clambered onto the sofa which was designed for aesthetics first and comfort second. The armrest dug into your side uncomfortably and you adjusted yourself to make yourself feel more comfortable. You dug into your purse again to retrieve your phone.
There were still no texts from him.
You decided to give your husband a call via Facetime. After all, there was only a one-hour difference and it was only 11pm in Mondstadt then. Your husband was still awake and you knew that he would only sleep in the wee hours of the morning.
You placed your phone standing upright on the table, leaning your phone against the ceramic vase for support. You sat up straight eagerly, waiting for your husband to pick up.
"Hello?"
Your eyes brightened as you watched the screen shift in perspective. Diluc's hand was covering the screen partially as he moved his phone, the screen coming to a standstill as he placed his phone on a solid surface. Diluc's hair was slightly disheveled and ran down the sides of his face. Upon closer inspection, you realised that he had rather deep set eyebags beneath his eyes, and his skin looked paler than usual, making him seem ghostly.
"Diluc," you started, "Are you alright?"
"I'm doing fine," he was curt in his response, choosing not to look at you. You could hear the sounds of a typing keyboard in the background, so you knew he was still working while on the line with you. His eyes never left his laptop as he asked, "What about you? Is the room comfortable enough for you?"
"The suite is great, thank you," you muttered.
There was a moment of silence as neither one of you said anything. The only sound being heard was the clacking of his keyboard and the occasional clicks of his mouse.
"Is that all?" Diluc asked, "If so, you should hang up and go to bed."
"You should go to bed too," you whispered, "It's already so late and you're still working."
"You don't need to worry about me. I'm fine."
"The eyebags under your eyes say otherwise," you countered.
"They are none of your concern," he said, his voice solid and holding his ground. There was another beat of silence before he said, "That's all for tonight. Goodnight."
With that, the call went dead and your screen went black. The calls with Diluc were always like this, and you really should not be surprised or even had expected something more. He was merely your husband in name, and his feelings were not yours to bend at your will.
A few involuntary tears escaped your eyes and you wiped them away quickly. What use was it to be the wife of a rich man when this marriage was loveless and cold? It went against all expectations you had of marriage: you had wanted to be married to a man who would shower you in endless love, be it a wealthy man or a homeless one. As long as you were loved, you would be okay.
However, you were not loved in the slightest, and you were not alright by any means.
You walked right towards the door and slipped your heels back on again. You needed some fresh air, so off to the rooftop you went.
The hotel had a swimming pool on the top floor which oversaw the entire city. At present, the neon city lights glittered against the still waters, which were glowing in a seemingly neon blue colour, thanks to the lights installed on the pool's tiles. You walked right to the edge of the pool which was close to the glass panels separating the pool from the sky. You closed your eyes, feeling the cool night breeze against your face.
After your grandfather passed away, your parents learnt of your grandfather's will to have you marry the eldest Ragnvindr son, and they were more than happy to pretty much sell you off to the said famous family. You remembered that they did not even bat an eye when they did so, saying it was all for strengthening the family's ties with the social circle of the wealthy, but you could care less. It seemed that in this world, no one was truly on your side.
You kicked your heels off and climbed onto the seats a little far off the pool, their backs facing the glass panels. You closed your eyes and held your hands up, walking in a single line as if you were walking on a tightrope.
I wonder, if I fell off here, would there be anyone who will care?
Suddenly, you tripped on an uneven cushion and swerved to your side, the side that was close to the glass panels. Your eyes flew open as you let out a silent scream, watching your life flash before your very eyes as you fell into impending doom.
By fate or some sort of miracle, someone grabbed your other hand and yanked you away from the edge, pulling you straight into something solid. Your eyes screwed themselves shut as you careened into something… or someone. You opened your eyes to see that you have found yourself in the arms of a dark-haired man, whose eyes were brimming with tears as he whispered the string of words you were not expecting to hear from a complete stranger.
"Please stay alive for me."

Fan fiction Idea!
Reverse Hanahaki AU
Y'all know Hanahaki right. So what if the reader is not the one suffering from Hanahaki it's the character.
Like imagine Scaramouche or even Xiao having feeling for the reader and they think that the reader is too good for them and they got Hanahaki.
Have fun! With this idea 😏

For those, who's heart I broke… (various genshin x reader)
Angst, no comfort
Summary- Things that they do, or happen between you both, in a situation where they like you but you don't reciprocate their feelings.
A/n- May feel like a small vent, but here are various genshin characters as some things that my admirers did around me, even though I never liked any of them.
T/w- Uncomfortable behaviour, unrequited love, guilt tripping
----------
They were forced to admit they liked you in a game of truth or dare, and they saw it as an opportunity to bashfully announce it, trying their best to look cute.
Albedo, Xiao, Diluc, Keqing, Ayaka, Nilou
They made it very obvious they liked you, saying things like they'd be a good boyfriend/girlfriend to you.
Childe, Kaeya, Hu Tao, Kaveh, Itto, Heizou, Lisa, Venti
Would either shamelessly or very shyly flirt with you, maybe even getting a little too touchy, and shake it off as "this is how they are with friends in general".
Childe, Hu Tao, Heizou, Kaveh, Kaeya, Fischl, Lisa, Venti, Ayato
But you knew, and the problem was, you didn't like it. Even if they didn't openly admit it, you knew how jealous they got. Every time they saw you hanging out with a new friend, they'd eye you. If it were someone of the same gender, they may try to shake it off but still feel jealous, trying to deny that you might be on the lgbt spectrum. But if they're of the opposite gender, oh boy. Their jealousy didn't limit to them being either the same gender as you or of the opposite. They just want you.
And they'll always, always try to get you to be the submissive one, because they love you so much they want to pamper you. Maybe, seeing how much they care, you would fall for them?...
Would play/watch/listen to things you like, whether it be an anime, a game or a song, they'll try to find out exactly what you like. After all, that's how people are with their crush, right?...
Some would openly tell you, and look genuinely interested and make you talk just so they could know more.
Childe, Yae Miko, Heizou, Bennett, Hu Tao
Some would be a little quiet, but they try to bring it up in your next conversation.
Tighnari, Albedo, Layla, Ei, Diluc
And some would try to be even more discreet by involving their friends as well.
Cyno, Al Haitham, Xingqiu, Yelan
But it's too obvious. And once you straight up tell them no...
"I hated how you liked talking to my best friend more than you liked talking to me."
"You were jealous."
"Jealous? No I was depressed."
Like bro that doesn't make sense?? It's pathetically obvious how they're trying to blame you for their issues, just because you didn't reciprocate their feelings.
Childe, Xiao, Cyno, Ganyu, Diluc
"This is why people are so intimidated to talk to you."
"You don't get to comment on my lack of friends."
"What I mean is, you're so pretty and hot but your eyes itself spew rejection, how could people not be intimidated by how you look?" They don't look at you as they say this, instead they're looking behind you, at the person who's staring you up and down, proving as a testament to their statement.
Tighnari, Keqing, Kaeya, Childe, Albedo
They proceed to avoid you after that. One month... two months and then, the third and last month of your school. After that, the last day of school. They've avoided you for three months, surely one day is nothing right?
"Hey yn! Can you take a pic for us? Thank you!" Your common friend asks you, and when you go with them to take their picture, you see them. They tense up, and their friends are teasing them about how you both could be an inseparable couple. Your common friend poses with them, a smirk very obvious on their face, trying to tell you that it's your fault that you're "missing out".
But you don't regret it, nor do you care in the slightest. Not after seeing how uncomfortable they could make their crush feel due to their own, irrational obsession with you.
After all, due to those situations, you're aware that you know them better than your "common friend".
----------
A/n- These situations actually took place irl. I was just thinking about it since school's over and it sounded a lot like a story so here we are. I just needed to get it out somehow lol, especially since some of the things they told me were rather... weird. Valentine's day is a good day to post this haha.
(Also, Childe is highlighted in orange here bc I see him as a ginger lmao)

i still love you.
feat. | diluc, yoimiya, eula, and xiao! summary | getting back together after a breakup. you love each other. author's note: it was very painful to write this very painful fic. enjoy! also idk if xiao actually smiles.. but i took a leap. and so now he smiles.
diluc ragnvindr |
maybe he hung around after to see if you still loved him. maybe he, despite your cutting words, still loved you. maybe he went to sleep thinking of your soft smile and gentle touch. and maybe, just maybe, he hoped you’d come back to him.
your breakup destroys diluc. he’s still in love, hanging on to his shredded memories of you. he longs to kiss you, hold you, be with you. and yet you’d left, weeks ago, months ago, how long was it? time blurs together when you’re not there, and he feels almost weightless.
ha! weightless. as though such a word could be used to describe a man whose heart had just been torn out of his chest and lain on the ground, bleeding raw and bare. he sometimes—no, always—thought about you, and was so out of it that he rarely bartended at the tavern anymore. he hid away in the dawn winery. he wants to see you—he wants you to love him again, love him like he loved (no, loves) you.
adelaide worries about his many weeks spent pining away in front of the fire, drinking tea and staring morosely into the flickering flames. he's always been broody, angsty, mopey, but after he met you, he perked up. he started growing flowers in little beds (after you nagging him) and he started wearing other clothes. honestly. he'd do anything to see you right now.
and his wish is granted one cold winter afternoon, when he opens the door to see you on the other side. his broken heart repairs itself at the sight of you, freezing, smiling apologetically at him. “i love you—“ the two of you start together, and he doesn’t even give you a pause before he pulls you into a kiss.
naganohara yoimiya |
she misses you with an ache so fierce her sunshine dims. her father comments on her dullness and she forces a laugh. she’s no longer chipper, no longer soft and sweet. instead, she’s hard edges and short tempers and quiet cries in the dark.
yoimiya thinks about you every day. while lighting a firework fuse. while staying up late at night. her thoughts are plagued by you and you only. she can’t bring herself to forget you, the magical person who dove in and made her feel truly, truly joyful. who made her feel like she wasn't too much.
she watches the fireworks on amakane island, remembering when you sat with her. and yet the thought stings so much, she bites her lip hard to keep from crying. what happened to her? she used to laugh everywhere she went, spreading light and warmth. you'd called her the sparkle of my eye. when she'd blushed and laughed, you had thrown your arms around her and kissed her full on the mouth.
now, she needs you. she needs you to bring back that light. that sparkle.
her chest aching, she leans forward and closes her eyes, her fingertips brushing a slip of paper. she raises it to her eyes. on it, four words are written in a scrawl she’s recognize anywhere.
i still love you.
she sniffles, the tears streaming freely down her face. when were you here last? to write her a note, but to not see you? could you be that selfish? why leave a note when you could see her in person? she tears up the note, her fingers shaking, anger seeping through the sadness. well, fine. if you didn't want to see her, so be it. she would raise her head and--
a shuffle behind her causes her head to snap up and glance behind her. it’s you, holding up a sheet of paper. she barely takes time to read it before throwing herself into your arms and sobbing into your shoulder. do you still love me?
“yes,” she whispers into your ear, her sobs hiccuping into laughter.
xiao |
xiao tells himself that he doesn’t hurt. he tells the same thing to anyone who asks; i’m fine. i’ve been over yn for so long now, it’s a thing of the past. he’ll force a laugh, but when he’s alone, sorrow drags his heart down so far it’s a wonder he manages to live still.
your leaving xiao tore him to shreds and pasted him together, some pieces missing and some in different spots. he wants to find you again. he wants you to call his name. often, he finds himself looking at the top of wangshu inn, searching for your silhouette, your voice, your words. your words were always so pretty. you had the loveliest way of describing the most trivial of things. the rain patters like my thoughts--always moving, always whirling, always there. but dissolving into the background sometimes, you'd written once. and then he'd known that he was deep in love.
maybe he’s too clingy. maybe all he deserves is this eternal suffering. karma, he thinks bitterly. he never deserved you. your sweet words, snarky wit and whip-fast intellect. your beautiful love.
whenever he started doubting himself like this, you’d sit on his lap and furiously tell him all the things you loved about him. by the end, he was smiling and you were laughing. you always said his smiles were as rare as a double rainbow; they were rarely there, but when they were, they took your breath away. his smile lopsided and crooked, his eye crinkling. it looked so out-of-place on his usually solemn features that you couldn't help but laugh, without fail.
thinking about that feels like a stab to the chest. he inhales painfully and turns away from the top of wangshu inn—but not before spotting a familiar silhouette.
he could recognize you from anywhere, and hoists himself easily onto the roof. you turn towards him. “xiao,” you whisper, and he smiles a double-rainbow smile.
eula lawrence |
eula pretends that she does not care. who cares if you've left her? the one true love of her life? better to be the one in power, she decides, and not to cry over you again. she throws herself into dancing more fervently than before, whispering to herself vengeance will be had for your breakup.
eula dances with a ferocity that sends everyone reeling into shock. is she... angry? people wonder. her anger plus her love for you plus her hurt turns her dances sharp like ice, dangerous like lightning. she's as graceful as a swan, light as a feather. she's quiet and angrier when she speaks and when people bring you up, she cuts them off with a dangerous look and a whispered threat of vengeance.
she remembers how you'd tell her how gorgeous she looked before the performance, and after, only compliments would spill from your mouth. she remembers blushing and smiling so hard her cheeks ached along with her feet, and she remembers you carrying her bridal-style to your bed. she remembers how you'd always make her tea and sit with her until she fell asleep.
thinking about such things, she scolds herself, is not right. she spins into a turn and for a second, thinks she can see your face in the crowd. but why would it be you? you left her after she broke up with you (maybe a valid reason, but does it matter? you left).
coming out of her turns, she spots you again. this time, there's no doubt. you smile at her and she rapidly ends her dance, rushing towards you. you race into her arms and she twirls the two of you around. "i love you so much," you whisper.
"i am so mad at you for leaving," she hisses. "but i love you too." and she yanks you back towards her.

Knight’s Flames || Diluc
RED flames flickered from the fireplace, warming up the cozy room with its homely, fresh-cut, wooden smell. The space encompassed of a dark, leather sofa, and curtains drawn in to cover the night skies of Mondstadt. Your eyes dazed and stuck on the flames, the being waved in the air as a ferocious monster waiting to swallow you whole. Shivering under the cover of your wool blanket, you couldn't get the idea of your near death out of your head.
Yes, while you were traveling around the icy mountains of Dragonspine, you made a terrible decision of swimming across a bank. Nearly drowning from losing stamina, you were most fortunate when Diluc stumbled upon you. Saving you with a quick dive, he brought you home safe and sound. At first, he was dangerously angry at you, his crimson eyes gleaming darkly and ready to pierce you. But he calmed down soon afterwards and was in the kitchen right now, to make a cup of cocoa for you.
It took him another minute or so, but footsteps soon sounded against the wooden floor. The tall man entered your vision, never failing once to take your breath away. Setting a cup down on the coffee table in front of you, a scarlet, wet lock of hair draped past his shoulder, escaping the ponytail he tied for himself. Changed out of his usual clothes, he wore a baggy, white shirt and dark trousers that you fetched from your father's closet. Being the stubborn ass that he was, it took a moment for you to persuade him to so -- you did not want him to catch a cold by any means.
He sat down beside you, his weight shifting the balance of the couch. He held his own cup of cocoa on one hand, while his free hand placed on your shoulder. It pulled you towards him, until you were pressed against his warm body. "D-Diluc?" you breathed out, surprised and flustered. Heart pounding against your chest, you couldn't believe what he was doing.
He wouldn't respond; instead, he took a sip of his drink, staring directly into the fireplace. Was he... worried about you? He wouldn't admit it verbally, but perhaps he wanted to stay close to you because of what he had seen.
"What are you thinking of right now?" you inquired softly, relaxing your limbs. Deciding to say fuck it, you snuggled into him and cherished the heat he provided. You were still terrified out of your wits from the day's events, but with Diluc here... he was your rock to hold onto, stabling you until you could stand on your own. He truly was like the flames. He was very distant, something you could not actually touch, yet all the same, he was the only source keeping you alive. He was beautiful... and deep down inside, you knew he was caring nonetheless. Him being the Darknight Hero was proof enough.
"Hot chocolate," he told you. You blinked for a few seconds, expression blank. "You should drink it. It'll help distract you."
Curling your fingers around the mug's handle, you returned to your position beside Diluc. "There. Happy?" you said. Coating your tongue with warm, sweet substance, you swallowed it down. It was very tasty. "If I wanted to be distracted, wouldn't I turn to alcohol though?"
His brows twisted and he looked almost offended. "Are you serious right now?"
You chuckled and leaned your head against his shoulder. "I nearly forgot you hated alcohol."
"It's as though you don't even try to remember," he huffed out. His tone was light and also teasing, but it soon turned a 180. "Your carelessness is always getting in the way of everything. Like today, for instance."
"And here I thought we were trying to distract ourselves," you muttered, letting out a long sigh.
"You still need to be more careful," he argued. In the corner of your eye, you noticed the way his grip tightened around the cup. You lifted your head and turned to look at him. His was also on yours, reflecting the light of the flames, shadows lining his face from how dark the room was. You took in his damp bangs to his lips -- hair that was wet because of you and lips that were pressed upon yours to get the excess water out of your system.
You swiftly averted your eyes elsewhere, ignoring the flutters that erupted from your stomach. "But I am safe, aren't I? Thanks to you."
"Yes. Indeed, you are safe. That's all that matters, I suppose," he murmured. He drank the rest of his hot chocolate and returned the empty cup to the table. Now wrapping both arms around you, he tightened his hold and nestled his face into your wet, [h/c] hair. You widened your eyes in surprise, with your heart ready to explode. He was so, so shameless.
"Remember when we first met?" you said, grinning. Pretending that this position was as normal as it could be, you decided to just go with it. He would be back to his usual self by tomorrow anyway -- it was probably the nerves and distraught that was causing him to be so touchy-feely. "I saw you at the tavern and because you were drinking so much grape juice, I mistaken you to be drinking alcohol. It confused me why you weren't blacked out drunk yet."
He scoffed, clicking his tongue. "And yet you couldn't remember I didn't like alcohol just a moment ago. Also, you're the one who's drinking yourself away. Very irresponsibly too, if I dare say."
"Aw, shut it already," you whined, scowling.
"Do you happen to have a chess piece board?"
"Yes, I do," you answered.
"Would you like to play a round with me then?" he asked, finally unwrapping his arms around yourself. Much to your surprise, rather than feeling relieved to leave his arms, you wished to have him hug you again. He made you feel safe, as if no harm could ever go towards your way again.
"Sure. But be warned, I've played with my father a good amount and he's a master at it," you told him, curling the corners of your lips up. He cocked a brow upward, prepared to take your declaration of war on. Pulling yourself up from the couch, you arrived at a bookshelf and rifled through the stacks of miscellaneous items. Once achieving the box containing the game, you brushed the specks of dust off and hurried back to the male, who sat himself down on the floor. You lowered yourself as well, putting the game in the middle.
Since you wished to be white, he was black. Lining the pieces at their assigned spots, the game soon began -- one filled of mostly silence and a lot of deep concentration. Every move counted, your palms growing sweaty to think up of a strategy to take his players out. The hour went by, the side of the board beginning to fill its space up with lost soldiers, coming from each team. The battle ensued and the your brain was getting fried up for thinking so technically, but of course, all things had to come to an end.
Sending a knight forward, Diluc moved his arm to your queen. The plastic shell echoed loudly against the wood, ringing into your ears. "Checkmate!" he exclaimed, his features beaming excitedly. You had lost... but it was worth it, to see him like this. Not so often did Diluc allow anyone to see him this way. You wished to capture him -- to save the image inside your head forever and relay it over and over again. He noticed your expression and was quick to compose himself. "[Y/N]? Why are you smiling like a fool for?"
"I had a lot fun," you whispered.
He nodded, patting his hair down nervously. "I did too. You weren't lying there. You play a good, mean game of chess."
"You know the knight you used to checkmate my queen?" you pointed out. "That's you. The Darknight hero."
"Oh, don't even start," he groaned, rolling his eyes. You giggled, until eventually he couldn't help but be amused as well.
The two of you stared at each other with soft smiles and pounding hearts, aligning by the crackle of flames.

A Light Tale’s Crimson Flower
In the mood for angst but mind you this is an experiment! I’m doing characters I have never written before, so they will be most likely OOC! (totally not nervous posting this for fear of losing followers over a genshin related post-T_T). Just because I’m posting in a new fandom does not mean I've given up on BSD! I just decided to expand the blog so I can update more as my hyper fixations fluctuate. Oh, and my style has changed a little
A Light Tale’s Crimson Flower | Diluc X Reader with a (platonic?) Kaeya |
(Not beta or proofread read BTW)
2,364 words :)
A light tale for two and a flower drenched in sickly crimson.
A light sparkle of a smile and a piercing howl of scream.
A light shined and a flower left crumbled.
A light nation, a gloom-filled sorrow left behind in crimson ash.
Each detail spread like petals in a windstorm, flowing elegantly, but holding resemblance to a tale of a long-forgotten history. To find each other was something kin to a god’s blessing. Even when there was nothing there, neither of them believed in the gods like the others. Neither acknowledged how unique these beings were, not when they so easily took away trust and joy. A nation godless should still receive the gods' blessings. They did not forsake them, yet, when the nation fell, it was the archons, the gods, who destroyed it with stinging betrayal. It was hard for them to move past with such memories intact, to face the room of friends now that they remembered such extensions of suffering. The boy downing wine, laughing alongside the people, didn't shed much of a glance. Such a fake smile that was earnest to the others so clueless of their grievances or the sins of their hearts.
Y/n sat there glass half-emptied by their lips, unmoving as they observed the rumble of voices. It seemed they were all here, the traveler, the archon who now swam among his people as a mere powerless bard, Kaeya, they laughed as if they were friends. Maybe they were, and the boy who had once laughed alongside them was far from that boy. Trauma did have the poison of change, perhaps it was the unpleasant poison itself. Such thoughts ran along their rampant mind as they took another bitter sip of alcohol, the tang of regrets tingling their tongue. “You’re not joking beside him tonight.” The bar’s attendee had a straight-to-the-point approach to most everything. They were no different, even if they did not answer. He would find a way to carve the words from their lips, not in Kaeya’s flirty but manipulative way, but with such blunt cold, it would make Kaeya seem warm to the touch. For a user of pyro, Diluc was utterly cold in his stare unless it was full of those rampant flames, hotter than the ones that scorched their skin all those years back.
Setting the glass down on the coaster, they smiled, shrugging their shoulders plainly, wishing for something to rip the air from their lungs as the bard smiled and hung around Kaeya. They wondered if the archon recognized them, or remembered the sting of betrayal that dark day. “I remembered something from a long time ago… nothing of importance.” Diluc Didn’t respond for an extension of time, not bothering to care much for the words of his customer. Instead, looking to the fool who drove his flames to brighten within his heart. Anger always seeped through when he looked at the streams of perfectly tamed nightly ocean locks.
“I had expected you to attempt to woo that idiot as you usually do.” For a moment, they mistook the flux in his vocals to be concerning. Nobody here truly cared, maybe Diluc or Kaeya, but even then they were of no true importance. If they were, then neither of them would have forgotten their promise, to stay within each other's eyes and heart till eternity be damned, and they fell within the dirt they came from. “If you act too slowly, he may find somebody else who can put up with his arrogance and clueless nature.” That was the point, he seemed content with Monistat while they were anything but okay. Had this been just a week prior, they would have been about with a smile. Now wrapped in their pocket hidden from view lay an insignia, a small note that had been the key to unlocking a door in their mind. Their heads were filled with flashing screams and a shattered memory of a friend, somebody who had turned to destroy their world. In truth, that love no longer sparked, they had never wanted or needed the man who wore the Cyro vision. They had always been captivated by Diluc
Kaeya was a prince, they were to be his other half one day but with no nation, what ties were left between the two of them? What work did they have around heroes? They were conflicted, heart longing for a man of flames while the past longed for closure with the brother.
“You knew Kaeya as a child… did he ever wear a genuine face of joy?” Diluc paused his movements, wiping a glass down, easily masking any surprise that happened in that fraction of time. His silent take to the question was not unexpected, but his sudden vocalization was indeed a light shock to their system.
“I did…-He trailed off, his eyes seemed to cloud as he turned to face away from their gaze.- He’s nothing but a liar Y/n… even I don’t know if he ever felt happy. Why don’t you ask him yourself?” What had they expected from the redhead? A fraying moment of tranquility? Of course, such minuscule ideas like the peace of word were impossible between these two. Would he also look at them with that fire in his eyes if they spoke up? If the suffering floating through the mush within their head was exposed? Would he forgive them for the secrets for the places she came from before Mondstat?
“You’re right with that… he lies but so do I.” The last four words fell into the silence within their mind. Diluc said nothing, but he looked at them with a carefully placed expression as they passed another drink to the customer, the friend he’d never admit was something dear to him, another round.
“On the house.” He grumbled under his breath.
From afar, Kaeya glanced back at the pair, his uncovered eye watching the one he knew from a nation long gone. He slid from the stool, half intoxicated by the drink, half-intoxicated by the thoughts that casually played on a record inside his mind. He’d always known, even before their memories returned. Yet, he couldn't bring himself to do anything, to take back their heart. They were simply acquaintances, dare he say friends. Their heart belonged to his older brother. If he could call the tavern owner his brother. Diluc hated when he referred to him as such, but no matter what that man said… those memories of joy would never leave him. It was his only peace since Khairiah's destruction. “Oh, Y/n~ what are you doing all by lonesome here with such a boring choice of the company?” Kaeya’s flirty tone rocked his lips, trilled with the stench of wine, and slowed with the effects of such a brew. They had not talked since their memories surfaced, Kaeya seemed all too intimidating before them now.
“I’m quite alright in this atmosphere. Master Diluc makes for nice company.” They turned away, darting their eyes from the Cavalry Captain. He sighed, waving their words off. He leaned to their ear and whispered a soft recommendation. “Tell him you think his hair is suited for an elegant man. He’s oblivious to you but I've noticed. The game of jealousy doesn’t work on Diluc.” Startled, they swatted him away, Diluc narrowing his eyes as Kaeya retreated with a snicker to himself all while his chest pulled him down.
The night progressed for a while, it took a few drinks before Y/n could try out Kaeya’s advice. “Master Diluc?” he hummed a small nod. “I think the high-pony suits a man of your status… i-it looks nice on you.” Their eyes darted away as Diluc's eyes widened for a moment and his cheeks lit a soft rose.
“I’m not doing much the next week, why don’t we spend some time at the lakes, just the two of us.” The guilt ate them alive but they nodded, thanking the old friend for the help, and thanking the alcohol for the confidence boost. Y/n smiled paying the bill, another friend taking them home that night.
For a while, there were no dreams of the things they had done to people. There were dreams of the screams or of the monsters that befriended them and then burned their home into a forgotten piece of land. For a while, they held the insignia given back to them by a young boy named Childe. Even if they were no longer one of them, that nation had not aided in the destruction of their home. That nation’s queen, the Tsaritsa for a while, took care of her. In the end, that God had also thrown them away, tossed to the side to where things blurred and a door locked away the years behind it. They held that broken piece of metal in their hands, cupping it with a dead expression. Their breathing is unsteady and rigid.
There had been kisses and cuddles, peace. Tevat’s peace never lasted too long, though, always cut short by something. Their knees tugged to their chest, holding back the screams and the anger in their veins. It was nights like this where the thunder boomed, where they forgot where they were. Their mind waking from a dream vibrant as the sun. The torment of reliving the moments leading to their friends and family perishing, the pain of being blamed by their sibling for the destruction. For befriending a god who would turn his back for no reason, no contract, no excuse. To think they had been able to see the god as a friend before their memories returned. Their eyes focused on the insignia, a wave of disgust crossing their face as they threw it across the room with a strangled cry. The hallucination of crimson dripping from the object and their hands as they slammed the covers over their head, the spot next to them empty. Diluc, out doing his hobby as the dark knight hero.
As if their suffering were not enough, their day came on a night of turbulence. The winds howled, and lightning pierced the earth with its anger. The liquid dripped from their fingers, eyes set in cold glares, a snarl over their lips as they stared at the realms of two treasure hoarders. They kneeled to pry two objects from the cooling warmth of the bodies. The insignia they refused to part with despite the pain it brought, and an earring much like Kaeya’s, something they never wore but still had. “It was an accident,” they mumbled, their voice weak against the sky's hungry growls. Their knees made a sudden buckle, sending them into the mud. They had yet to cry since their memories returned, and under the rain, they let out a strained cry. It had been over a hundred years since they had taken a life with their hands. Longer since they had last felt this guilt. The sight of red taking steps closer as she gripped the insignia and earring in their hand did not meet their eyes. The rain came down far too fast. “Y/n… what did you do?” Their head snapped forward at their lover's voice full of repulsion and… an emotion they refused to acknowledge for its negativity.
“Diluc… It was… I didn’t mean to, I swear! I was only protecting myself.” Lies, within lies, lifted her tongue and crossed the thickening atmosphere to Diluc's waiting ears. Those piercing eyes only got darker as the sky began to part. Only then did they realize where his eyes were narrowed to… quickly, their hand tossed the Fatui emblem and the earring into the mud, falling silent.
“Diluc, give Y/n some space. It’s been rough for them these past months… hasn’t it?” Kaeya’s tone, genuine enough to believe he was sticking up for them, was as good as a relaxant medical herb.
“Fatui.” Diluc hissed the words while they dipped their head to the bloodied mud and repeated a simple mount of words. “No, it’s not like that. Diluc… please.” “Liar” He responded with that same ice he spoke to his brother with, and their world came crashing down like dust, that feeling of betrayal sticking into their heart. “I never want to see your lying scum again, the both of you traitors.” Kaeya’s eyes set into a nasty glare, his own temper fluxing in response, coming to their rescue as he took a step forward and swung his fist for the elder brother.
“You idiot.” He snarled before Diluc walked off under the peeking sight of the sun.
Three days of regret, mingled with alcohol he didn’t enjoy, that’s how long it took, of missing them in his bed, missing their laughter beside him to suck it up and find them. He should have taken one less day to reach this conclusion. By the time his flames reached Y/n, their eyes were the void, empty and dark. They sat slumped against the ruins of some old place in Mondstadt, hands grasping a gift he’d purchased for them. He hadn’t been the first to find them, Kaeya sat there with eyes red and hands in his lap. “K-Kaeya? Diluc stuttered, but Kaeya merely held his hand and flipped him off before he collected himself, eyepatch tossed to the floor. This would be Diluc's first and only time seeing him like this… but he’d loved them even if he’d never had a chance when Y/n craved the one wielding pyro.
He punched his “brother” in the gut, before screaming at him horrific details outside the language of Mondstadt. When he was calm enough to speak within a dialect Diluc would understand he closed the eye, he usually kept covered. “This… is your fault Master Diluc. Live with this and your stubborn nature. Your father would never be proud of the cold bastard you’ve become. I was okay with you blaming me and hating me, but they… picked you over me. You’ve always been better.” Diluc collapsed as Kaeya walked away, the last hopes for tying their relationship back together dissipating with the loss of his lover.

stranger, danger!
summary! :: you’re drunk and don’t recognize your boyfriend
pairings & characters! :: 5wirl x gn!reader (separately), diluc (mentioned)
contains! :: mentions of drinking, drunk!reader, fluff, mentions of arguments, angst if you squint,
notes! :: not proofread. i was suddenly inspired to write this after remembering a scene from business proposal this was hard since im a minor and don’t drink yet💀 but ig i’ve watched enough shows to know what happens.. ++ i wrote this a month ago and finished it just now at 5 am😭
you were out with your friends to celebrate one of theme getting engaged and accidentally drank too much. they tried to take you home but apparently you didn’t want anyone to take you home except for your boyfriend. so here xiao was, sitting with you in the bar, all your friends were long gone, and struggling to get you to come with him. “yn let’s just head home..” he pleaded. “NO. NO NO NO! I WANT MY BOYFRIEND XIAOOOOOO” you yelled which resulted in him getting weird stares and almost getting thrown out of there bar, where he had to show photos of you together to prove he was definitely your boyfriend and that he was just drunk. by the time you were in the car, you were fast asleep. xiao sighed in relief and gently held your hand while driving and mumbled “you’re lucky i love you”.
if you thought drunk kazuha was already a mess, then his s/o would be worse. you had an argument tonight so you snuck out to drink your worries away. unbeknownst to you, your boyfriend had followed you out to watch over you. “im your boyfriend name, me, kazuha” he said softly. “my boyfriend isn’t someone who would force someone to do his biddings.” you spat out. “he— he would try to talk it out! and he’s always so understanding and patient and— im always troubling him and i feel so bad! i don’t deserve him.” you sobbed. he just stared in disbelief, you thought you didn’t deserve him? to him it was quite the opposite, it was him who didn’t deserve you and from now on he would make sure that you would never feel like that ever again but first— he glaced at your passed out self. he needed to get you home.
venti is someone who can handle his alcohol very well, his s/o on the other hand… you had finally agreed to drinking with venti at angel’s share, both of you not knowing it would end up like this. “my dear, you need some rest” he caressed your cheek but you immediately slapped it away and screamed “NO, WHO ARE YOU? HELP THERE’S A STRANGER TOUCHING ME!” with the way you worded it and with diluc not being here, venti had inevitably got thrown out since it was the first time he was seen with you here. he was purely shocked and frustrated when diluc arrived and said “yn called me to call you but it seems like you’re here anyways so i assume she’s..” . you remembered diluc but not him? DILUC of all people!? but it mattered not because at the end of the night you were in each other’s arms.
he didn’t know know how you and him ended up drinking, aether thinks it was paimon who convinced you to go out? he can’t remember much, all he knows is that you’re both drunk as hell and need to sleep. “aetherrr, AETHERRR” you whined. “im..here…” your boyfriend yawn. tears started to well up “my boyfriend left me.. he left me!! i knew this would happen one day and it finally did!” you started to sob. aether immediately sobered up at your words and frantically began comforting you “im right here. see, I haven’t gone anywhere” you just stared at him for a few seconds and leaned in close “you might look like my boyfriend but i know you’re not him” you said as you pointed a finger to his chest. “I— what? yn i AM aether” you just squinted your eyes and immediately spat out “no.” then turned away to walk out of the bar while mumbling ‘my boyfriend’s gone..” with a pout. well, he knew it would be a very long night.
luckily for heizou, you were drinking at home alone. he found you giggling to yourself at the table and decided to surprise you a bit. so he covered your eyes and pulled the old fashioned “guess who i am” . to his shock, you suddenly started crying and interrogating him “how did you break into my house? my boyfriend is a detective. he’ll easily track you down and arrest you.” he laughed at your antics and played along for a bit “i went through the window” “hm, that’s not very smart. the door was unlocked so you could’ve easily went through the door! you know my boyfriend isn’t like you, he would’ve been smart enough to check the doors first. oh and our keys are literally hidden in the potted plants outside..!” okay he was definitely scolding you when you’re sober.

A/N: apologies for the wait, school has been a pain in the butt (and grad school applications have been insane). here's the new chapter!
Upon reaching the entrance of Wangshu Hotel, you turned to face Zhongli and bowed, “Thank you for accompanying me, Mr. Zhongli. I appreciate it.”
“The pleasure is all mine,” Zhongli mirrored you and returned the bow, a small smile on his face.
There was a moment of comfortable silence as you made eye contact with Zhongli. With the way the sun was setting slightly in the distance, the sun’s rays were angled in such a manner whereby Zhongli was seemingly casted in a golden halo, making him seem ethereal. Otherworldly, even. Somehow, that particular moment looked immensely picturesque, yet hauntingly familiar.
“You have been staring at me for some time,” Zhongli’s voice pulled you out of your thoughts and you blinked, “Is there perhaps something on my face?”
“No, no, not at all!” you shook your head and smiled, “I just thought that you looked wonderful in the light.”
Zhongli stared at you, unblinking. Neither him nor you were speaking, and the weight of your earlier sentence settled over you. Oh, Archons, I just blurted whatever I had on my mind without thinking again, didn’t I?
Your face flushed bright red in embarrassment as you choked out, “I’m sorry! I have a tendency to speak freely sometimes.”
To your surprise, Zhongli chuckled as his eyes crinkled into little crescent moons, “There is no need to feel ashamed. It’s quite a refreshing habit you have.”
“That’s a really polite excuse,” you groaned as you smacked yourself inwardly. You really needed to stop being so loose-lipped. You nodded your head in the direction of the hotel as you spoke, “I should head back now.”
“I hope you rest well tonight,” Zhongli said as he clasped his hands behind his back with a nod.
“Goodbye, Mr. Zhongli,” you said as you raised your hand up for a wave before turning around to head back into the hotel.
Zhongli watched your figure retreat into the hotel. Only did he see you get past the double glass doors and were safely tucked into the premises then he finally made his own trip back to the funeral parlour.
(Knowing how nosy his boss could be, Celestia forbid her from badgering him for his whereabouts.)
While drying your hair with a towel, you sat down in front of the little dressing table and pulled the little trinket you had received earlier in the day out of its paper bag. It was a fazhan hairpin made out of jade, adorned with Glaze Lillies crafted from minerals on one end of it.
The moment you laid your eyes on the hairpin, something stirred in your heart. You furrowed your brows together as you picked it up gently, cradling it in your palms. This hairpin seemed... familiar, somehow, but you could not understand why. It was your first time laying eyes on it, and you had never chanced upon hairpins with a similar design before.
“Ma’am! I’ve found something!” you called Madam Ping over.
The old woman walked over and eyed the accessory in your hands before her eyes widened for a fragment of a second. Before you could ask her what was wrong, she smiled gently at you, “Wonderful choice, child.” A pause, then she asked, “Do you like it?”
“It is beautiful,” you said as you stared at the hairpin, a smile spreading across your lips. Waves of nostalgia surged in your veins, tinged with... sadness? Melancholy? You could not quite place a finger on the name of the emotion that was filling you.
“This hairpin has finally found its owner,” Madam Ping smiled, “I hope you will create beautiful memories with it this time.”
You nodded, taking her cryptic message as a passing remark, “I will.”
You rolled the hairpin back and forth between your fingers, the dim lighting of your hotel suite reflecting off the Glaze Lilly decorations in a sparkly manner. A part of you could not bear to wear it; you wanted to keep it in a glass box and immortalise it as a souvenir from your trip. However, an innate part of you was insisting that you should not do that, and instead wear it out as intended.
Carefully, you set it down on the dressing table, I’ll wear it out tomorrow.
You were standing in an expansive field full of Glaze Lillies. No matter how far you walked, it seemed like there was no end to this particular flower field. You walked leisurely, admiring the endless sea of flowers surrounding you.
You halted your footsteps, closed your eyes, and took a deep breath in. The air was fresh and the fragrant scent of the flowers permeated in the air.
You opened your eyes, drinking the scenery in. This entire place was picturesque, as if you had stepped right into a painting. If only your husband were here—
“There you are.”
You turned around at the sound of a voice, your eyes settling on the figure of a man approaching you. The man was dressed in a long, dark brown robe dotted with golden accents, his head partially blurred out due to the sunlight obstructing your view as well as the distance between the both of you. Despite not being able to discern his countenance properly, you could instinctively tell that this man was the one your heart was beating so ardently for: your husband.
However, as the distance between both of you grew smaller, the sunlight started framing his face in a better angle and his features grew all the more clearer: straight, dark hair with gold tips and a matching pair of eyes set on a handsome face, with skin so fair it could rival that of the colour of a Glaze Lily’s petals. It was not Diluc; it was the funeral parlour consultant, Zhongli.
While he was not who you were expecting, your lips curled upward into a smile as if it were second nature to you. You could feel the warmth in your chest overflow you and fill every vein in your body, with every cell in your body having an affectionate reaction to this man. You opened your mouth to call out his name, but not a single word came out: your mouth was indeed moving, but your voice was completely muted, as if someone had muted the audio function on a video.
“What were you thinking about so intently?” Zhongli asked as he stood next to you, hands clasped behind his back.
“The war,” you answered as your smile dropped considerably at the thought of the heavy topic, then averted your gaze to the side, “Just... I wish that it didn’t have to reach this point.”
Zhongli’s smile took a bittersweet edge to it, “There is no need to worry. Just think of this war as one to quell some... social unrest.”
You snorted, “That’s a really polite way of putting it. What would the other adepti think?”
“I am sure they would agree and give similar remarks of their own,” he responded. There was a brief pause as his gaze softened, “After this is all over, may I ask you to accompany me for some tea?”
You turned your head and met his gaze: it was warm, sincere, and full of affection — a look that would not be given to mere acquaintances. In addition, his tone of voice felt as though there was something he wanted to tell you. Something deeper and perhaps even more intimate. If it were up to you, you would have asked him to spill the beans there and then, but given the situation of the aforementioned war (which you had very little idea about), you concluded that you would wait. Once everything wad over, you would sit him down and ask him to confide in you and confess everything to you.
You could only smile and nod, “Of course. You know I’d never pass up tea from the one and only—”
You tried verbalising his name out loud again, but your voice was seemingly robbed from you once more. However, it seemed that he did hear you say his name: Zhongli’s response was a simple hum, and both of you turned to admire the sea of Glaze Lillies in comfortable silence.
When the morning came, you awoke with your eyes feeling heavier than ever, as if you had cried for a long time. You raised your hand to your cheeks, feeling damp skin beneath your fingertips. Your fingers glided higher towards the base of your eyes. With one quick swipe, you felt moisture on your skin. Was I crying in my sleep?
At that moment, your phone buzzed on the nightstand. You reached out and grabbed it, seeing a notification pop up, reading that a bank transfer had been made to your account. You unlocked your phone to check the deposit, which your bank app read, “Incoming bank transfer from Diluc Ragnvindr”, and below it was a string of numerical digits. A text message soon popped up from your husband, which read, “Have fun in Liyue”.
You frowned. You were rudely reminded of this particular trait of your husband which you detested: sending you money instead of checking in on you or spending time with you. You scoffed, Does he really believe that quality time can be bought with money?
Whatever the case may be, you refused to use his money. No, not when it was a cheap means to placate you. Husband be damned; you were going to spend your own money and have fun on your own in this foreign country.
You eyed the hairpin glittering from its spot on the dresser and grinned. The first thing on the agenda would be accomplished with the accessory.

Help to blame
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
Diluc x favonius assistant gn!reader (platonic or romantic, you decide :P)
Warnings: bit of angst, argument (solution - part 2 here)
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
Diluc is a hard working man, always have been. His days consist of more work than sleep, which honestly has a lot of people worried. No matter how gently Barbara instruct him or how Kaeya jokes about it, the red head would listen to no one but himself. There is one kind of work he would rather forget about - anything that has to do with the Knights of Favonius. And now he has more than three months of work piled up neatly in stacks. He knew it would come bite him back, but he kept putting it off for so long and he can only continue doing so if he wishes Jean to take matters into her own hands. Diluc would very much wish to avoid that, the acting grand master has enough work as is. With a deep sigh he moved the stacks on his table and began chipping away at it. Which, at his pace meant getting half of it ready in a week.
Which also means extra work for you, the Favonius assistant. You became an expected visitor at the winery as you transfered documents back and forth, compare and confirm on each one with Diluc. You held much respect for him, saw how much he did and because of that, you didn't mind the extra hours you had to put in. Proudness was all you felt at the end of these long days, glad that you could take some work off of his shoulders. Maybe you were alone in this feeling tho.
- Yn, I appreciate the help, but I dont need you babying me - Diluc stood straight, hands behind his back, as composed as he could be, but what he said told otherwise. You stopped stacking the papers you held, movements suddenly stopped while you looked up into his tired eyes with shock. And maybe a bit of hurt.
- ... babying? - did you really hear that right? As you searched his face for an answer, you found only an irritated twich of his eye and a stern look.
- You've been more usual here than clients the past days, much more than it is needed for buisness. I don't think bringing gifts has to do anything with...
- You think im here to take care of you? - you didn't let him finish. Is he really this blind? - Im Jean's assistant! The paperwork you send to the Favonius office goes threw me! I thought itd be faster if I bring and take the papers myself. Not my fault that *someone* decided to have a marathon of submitting three months of material in a week. But I'll have the messengers take care of it than, so I stop being such a big pebble in your boot - you angrily slammed the papers on the table twice and showed them in your bag while muttering - Fuck me for trying to get work done and trying to be nice while at it.
Before he could answer you turned on your heel and left without goodbye. Diluc was shocked beyond belief. He never heared you angry. Annoyed sure, when he would refuse to take a break just for two bites, but angry - it twisted his heart the wrong way. He couldn't even be mad at you about it, it really wasn't your fault that all his stress found you to blame. Honestly, with all the fruits and baked goods you brought over you've been a life saver - while it was an extra interruption from the maids to bring it in, he has eaten better than usually when he gets into work this deep.
As he quietly stood in front of his desk, deflating more and more by the minute, Adeline gently knocked on his door and came in without waiting for an answer. She put a plate of neatly cut sunsettias and apples on the desk than quickly excused herself with a light bow. Diluc could only stare at them in the cavalcade of his self blame, but he was sure of one thing - he needs to find time to apologize.

Radiating || Albedo
SNOW was very pretty, light to the touch and made of a color so pure that it was almost unbelievable. However, it was a double edge sword, for its beauty came with a price. It was dangerous. As an aspect of nature, a touch of it could freeze a human to death if there was no heat source available, or the slip of ice beneath the fluffy matter could cause a steep fall. This came from experience and a trusted source: you. Because you were currently struggling with the exact problem.
"Shit!" you exclaimed, losing your balance from the black ice beneath your soles. Skidding through the surfaces, you clumsily held your hands out in case you were to bump into anything. Bumping into something, you did... but it was in the least expected way.
Your toe stubbed by a rock on the ground, the external force of it sent you flying into the cool, biting air. Letting out a silent scream, you tumbled through the hills. Continuously getting hit by your surroundings, your body burst with pain. It only ended when you reached a cliff, where you tried to latch onto something to prevent your fall. Despite your panicked attempts, you were tipped over and fell for a good few seconds.
The impact was great, knocking the oxygen out of you. Gasping and coughing from it, you laid there in the snow for a while, exhausted. You wished you could just flutter your eyes shut and sleep the stress away, but the cold was beginning to make its way back to you after all that excitement. Fingers growing numb and a cold sweat breaking out on your forehead, it was about time you find a warm source.
Pushing yourself up, you groaned to yourself and brushed yourself off. It was painful at first, but it didn't take too long for it to fade. That was the advantage for having so much strength. Strength didn't mean you were invisible to the cold though, thus why you needed to hurry up and get out of here.
Before you could start running with your impressive speed, a monster appeared from the shadows. Lumbering towards you, it was a frostarm lawachurl. It didn't look too happy to see you, considering you must've woken them up with your ruckus. The blue, huge creature let out a snarl, ready to kill.
Compared to you, it was slow as a slug, so you could easily outrun it. Preparing the kickstart, you were about to run a mile when a voice stilled you. "[Y/N]? Where are you?" It was a calm, low voice, soothing and steady to the ears. Coming from the cliff you were on earlier, footsteps were approaching the edge. Craning your neck back, your [e/c] eyes met teal-blue ones. Ashy blond locks laying upon his shoulders, looking winded as if he ran into trouble coming here. It was none other than Albedo, the known Alchemist of Mondstadt. The man was gorgeous; you had to rub your hues the first time you saw him.
"Down here!" you called out. In the momentary distraction, you were nearly slashed by the monster's claws in front of you.
"You were thinking of running away earlier, weren't you," he stated, his analytical gaze haunting you. "You need to fight them. How else am I supposed to study you?"
He knew you too well. At the start of his research, you were full-on board, since he was of use to you. But as time went on, the lazier you got. He promised that he would do the best of his abilities to find out the phenomenon of you coming from another world. That was right; you were from another world. You used to live in a place where there were powers of strength and speed, but no elemental powers. Sleeping and waking up to find yourself here at Dragonspine, you were at a lost of words when Albedo magically formed Geo crystals in front of you.
Sighing in defeat, you approached the ferocious beast. Clenching your fists, you readied your stance and rushed towards it. Your knuckles jagged, you pounded them against the monster's hard chest. With a few hits, the monster was knocked into the air, before crashing to the ground with a flat thud. It was already dead.
”I will always be in awe of this,” he murmured in the distance. You whirled around to see him furiously scribbling something on his notepad. As he did that, you hugged your arms around yourself, shivering in place. It was only then when he was finished with his journaling did he notice your predicament. Slight worry tinged his expression and he quickly beckoned you with his hand. “Let’s head back to my workshop.”
Finally! After climbing up the cliff carefully, you followed the young man back to the safety of his cozy cave. Contrary to your previous beliefs, the space was much more disorganized than you expected it to be. Vials of potions were hung up, while scatters of papers decorated his desk. His creations were laid around the place and a bookshelf sat on one side. Strewn boxes filled of who knew what laid there and in the way.
The most important part was the fire, of course.
Pushing passed the blond male and crouching near the fire, a breath of relief left your lips. The red, fiery thing blazed like a living thing, allowing you to be able to feel your fingers once more. While you sat there, Albedo proceeded to business. At his desk, he put down additional notes, attentative to his task. It was silent for a good amount of time, but it felt right.
You were getting quite comfortable with him.
His hawk-like vision suddenly noticed something about you. He got out of his seat and made his way to you. Peering down at your legs, he was in deep thought. Confused by his actions, you looked down to see what he was staring at. It was a cut — one out of the many cuts you must’ve recieved during your fall.
“Oh, it’s nothing,” you brushed it off. “It was just a small fall I had.”
He ignored your words, rolling your sleeves and pants up to reveal multiple dark gashes made on your [s/c] skin. “Yes. A small fall,” he said sarcastically. “I’ll go fetch a concoction for your wounds and some bandages.”
“There’s no need for that. Nothing hurts at all,” you protested. He didn’t respond, marching forward to the shelf filled of clear bottles of bubbling substance. In dismay, you had no choice but to watch him find the materials. He was so stubborn, dammit.
He returned with the promised materials in hand and sat himself down. Carefully pulling his dark gloves out, tender, pale hands were shown afterwards. Your eyes widened. It was rare to see him without his gloves... they were as pretty as he was. Wait. This meant that he would apply it then.
“H-Hold up! I can do this myself. You don’t need to waste time on me,” you argued.
“Concoctions are different from regular ointment,” he explained. “Anyway, I don’t mind at all. My precious subject got hurt because of me. It is only right for me to do this.”
Subject? Ouch. That stung a lot more than you thought it would. Were the two of you not friends by now? Keeping quiet with disappointment, you eventually allowed him the opportunity to heal you up. Hard at work, he began to coat the liquid over your wounds. His soft skin gingerly spread it over your arms and legs, leaving tingles in its wake. Heart pounding against your chest, you averted your eyes away from him. What was this feeling you were having?
He ended it by wrapping the bandages professionally, securing the products in place. Looking proud of himself, he nodded. “That should do it.”
“Thank you for this,” you told him softly as you rolled your sleeves back down. “Hey, Albedo. Does your name have a meaning to it?”
He blinked at you for a few seconds, surprise painting his features. “It does. Why the sudden question?”
You fiddled with your hands in embarrassment. “Well, it’s just that you know so much about me through our researches, but when it comes to you, you remain a mystery to me. I want to get to know you a bit better.”
He looked shocked to hear this, as if this was the first time he heard someone say this to him. Despite having a popular reputation in Mondstadt, you knew his hidden side. He was a reserved person who didn’t form many relationships. Instead, he delved himself into the world of alchemy, seeking truth nonstop. It led you to think he was lonely... so you wanted to be by his side — there to always support him. Unfortunately, if you were to return to your world, your time with him was not going to be permanent. Nothing was permanent.
“Well?” you said. “What’s the meaning of it?”
”Whiteness,” he replied, snapping out of his daze. “The measure of the diffuse reflector of solar radiation. Does it fit me?”
You could barely understand the jumble of words he uttered out. It sounded like he was speaking another language. Yet, the sentence sounded very bright, beautiful, strong, hard-working, intelligent, and amiable. It certainly sounded like him. Albedo was so radiating, you sometimes had to shut your eyes because it hurt.
“Yes, it does.”
