Let's talk about Diluc's voicelines, specifically, ones people refer to as "edgy." At first glance, these both seem like him being super edgy and brooding, but it's not, it's so, so much deeper than that.

Crepus always said to Diluc that life would never turn it's back on the faithful, but on the night Crepus died, it did so, so much more than turn it's back on him. It violently ripped away everything he loved, everything he thought he knew, and tossed him aside away. More specifically, the actions of evil, cruel, corrupt people did. All Diluc wants is to ensure that no one has to go through that again, that no one has to have what they love ripped away from them again, that no one has to be hurt like that again. But, in order to do that, he must get rid of those responsible for such tragedies, the "darkness that seeths with evil", the "corrupt souls of this world."

This is why he speaks so much of dawn, why he's named dawn in Latin. he wants to chase away the "darkness" of night so that others can bask in the light of dawn, he himself is dawn, the one that lives alone facing the cold harsh dark of night, so no one has to. But it takes more than a blade to purge that evil, and he knows that no matter how hard he tries, no matter how much he desperately does, that he will never be able to truly get rid of that darkness, night will always come, and it terrifies him. Those voice lines aren't him brooding, it's him expressing his frustrations, his anxieties, his insecurities; that he isn't strong enough to save those around him.

if only, he wishes with all his heart it could be so simple, that if he just worked hard enough he'd be able to slay the dragon and save the kingdom, but this isn't a fairytale, it's real life, and when one monster falls, two more rise in it's stead. He's knows he's fighting an impossible battle, that no matter how hard he tries, he can't prevent what happened to him from happening again. He knows that out there somewhere, there's someone just like him, someone just as innocent and bright eyed that's being hurt like he was, that's having their eyes forcefully ripped open to the cold, cruel reality of this world, and it eats him up from the inside out. He says this as a way to comfort himself, it's a sweet little daydream, it's comforting to picture a world where it was that simple, where something as simple as the weather could purge the sin out of man. Keep note of his voice while he says this line too, it's filled with longing, gentle, quiet longing for something he knows can't be.

it's largely the same for this too, but I think this line in particular helps highlights why he dislikes the knights so much (besides his unfortunate past with them and thinking they're inefficient): it's because they're corrupt, and he can't do anything to stop it, he can't fix them. In Dawn Winery, he runs it, he has complete control over the business, and thus is completely able to ensure that Dawn stays completely ethical and just. We see this in his 5.4 antidotes, he actively does not raise prices when the demand for his wine exceeds his supply despite his distributors urging him to, he does not give into the peer pressure.

But with the knights? He can't do anything, he's long since left the knights and has severed all association with them, and even when he was a knight, he was the cavalry captain. Yes, it's a position of power, but not nearly enough to call the shots. If he wanted to systematically de-corrupt the knights he'd have to be the Grand Master, and I don't think Varka is going to give up his position permanently just like that. He's just one man, he can't be every leader for every organization in all of Teyvat, let alone manage or systematically alter them.

This voice line isn't him being all dramatic and brooding to seem cool or mysterious, it's him subtly admitting that he knows he's fighting an unwinnable battle, that in the end, he's dedicating his life, every single facet of his existence to a goal that can never be accomplished, this isn't just him expressing his "troubles", it's him expressing his demons, the things that eat away at him, the things that keep him up at night (besides the ptsd)

very very kind as a lover. always wants to make sure that you're happy and safe and comfortable and everything else when he's in a relationship with you.

he's a bit awkward since he's probably never been in a relationship before. pls reassure him that he's doing good and that your happy with him because he's constantly unsure of himself.

loves loves loves giving you gifts. gives you free drinks at the tavern (alcoholic or non-alcoholic, whichever you want). gives you expensive items he found at shops (mans is rich af he would absolutely spend a ton of money for you). gives you anything he happens to come across that reminds him of you. he just likes to spoil you.

does those cheesy romantic things you always see in novels since he's pretty new to relationships. im talking he takes you on candlelit dinner dates, he says sappy romantic phrases, all the stuff.

dislikes pda, but will do things like hold your hand or occasionally wrap his arm around your waist if he's feeling bold enough. also gives you quick little forehead kisses when noone's watching.

gets flustered super easily. if you so much as flirt with him, his face instantly becomes as red as his hair. always tries to hide his face with his hands whenever this happens.

likes to spend time with you. he's busy a lot of the time, so any time he has off is guaranteed to be spent with you.

his sleep schedule is WACK considering his tendency to overwork himself and then his whole darknight hero stuff on top of that, but whenever he does actually get to bed at a decent time, please cuddle with him. he loves holding you, and he's naturally all nice and warm and cozy which makes you just wanna snuggle up to him and lay your head on his chest and cuddling with him is just sUCH AN AMAZING EXPERIENCE AAAAAA

likes hearing your voice. he's not usually one for small talk, but he'll make an exception for you. he thinks your voice is heavenly.

wraps his coat around you whenever you're cold. you don't even have to ask, he just places it over your shoulders if he sees you shiver. doesn't want you to get sick with a cold!

gives the best hugs. he's just so comfy to lean on and he's so warm and it feels like sitting in front of a fireplace on a cold day whenever he hugs you and it's just so cozy aaaaaaa <33333

he lets you pet his eagle. makes sure it knows your friendly and doesn't peck you.

makes you hot cocoa and cuddles with you by the fireplace on cold days. idk i just think he'd like to laze around with you during the chilliest winter days.

^^^ also makes you a nice warm meal on these days. wants it to be as cozy as possible for you, so he makes an absolutely exquisite meal for you to enjoy using what culinary skills he has.

overall very kind and caring and soft for you. adores and treasures everything about you. he's so happy he gets to be with you. he loves you more than anything else in the world, and he wouldn't have it any other way.

bonus: kaeya teases him for being head over heels in love with you whenever he visits the tavern. diluc makes him pay 4x the price for his drinks to get back at him.

The gentle colors of the rising sun peeked through the horizon, shining into the windows of the winery. It couldn’t have been any later than 6:00 in the morning. It was a quiet, tranquil morning, for not even the usual conversations of the blue jays had begun to echo into the room.

Wispy hairs stood staticky as a delicate, little head arose from its previous resting position. Inquisitive eyes drank in the world around, sending distress signals to the brain due to the absence of discernible objects.

This was an emergency, they figured, and it was time to fix it.

The serene environment was soon spoiled by the sounds of a tiny voice, whining under the light of the shining sun.

Both you and Diluc awoke to the soft sounds of distress that reverberated down the hall. You both groaned groggily, a gasp leaving your lips upon hearing the noise. You clicked on your bedside lamp, rubbing your eyes.

Before you could ever consider moving, your eyes flickered to your husband. Clad in a tight, black tee shirt and sweatpants, he was hastily tying his unkept hair into a sloppy ponytail. Thick with exhaustion, your hearing distorted his words. All you could register before your head hit the pillow were five words:

“Rest, love. I’ll get her.”

Diluc had to admit that he had not been the father he had wanted to be quite yet. He had been absolutely slumped at the tavern, and important customers and suppliers never seemed to want to stay in their own homes, instead opting to invade his for pointless meetings.

To be honest, your husband just wanted to spend some quality time with his little girl.

Gently turning the doorknob to the nursery, the male peeked into the room. He was met by the warm colors of the sunrise adorning the shimmering flowers painted on the walls. The sounds of cheerful birds finally made their presence atop of the serene sounds of placid water.

Glistening (E/C) eyes locked onto his own exhausted, crimson ones. However, in that moment, the loss of sleep seemed to be the furthest matter on his mind. With the smile of a patient saint, Diluc carefully scooped up your baby girl into his arms, resting her head against his shoulder.

“Why, good morning, (B/N). Have you decided to take on your morning a bit early today?” The sweetest chuckle escaped his lips as her own slipped into a yawn.

“Why don’t we take a visit outside?” He offered her, taking one of her little feet between his thumb and forefinger.

With a look of satisfaction, Diluc carefully walked down the stairs, bidding the cooing maids a good morning. He sat down on the porch swing, (B/N) in his arms, running his fingers over her red hair, and watching as the sun rises.

“Your grandfather used to do this with me and your Uncle Kaeya every single morning… isn’t that incredible?”

Of course, she didn’t understand a word he said, but the feeling of her daddy’s gentle touch, and the rumble of his chest as he spoke, lulled her right back off to sleep.

“Eeeeevery morning, that’s right. And poor Adelinde would have to chase Uncle Kaeya around just to get him to-“ Diluc smiled as he brought the baby’s head up to his lips, kissing her forehead like the touch of an angel.

“Sweet dreams, my precious girl.”

BONUS:

You woke up about ten minutes later, stretching groggily before sliding on your slippers. You leaned over to meet your husband’s lips for a “good morning” kiss, but fell face first onto the mattress. You chuckled to yourself as you remembered where he went,

With a yawn, you walked to the nursery, only to find the door wide open and both your husband and daughter missing. You smiled.

Of course…

Trudging sleepily down the stairs, you didn’t even have to utter the inquiry as to your beloveds’ whereabouts, for the maids squealed incoherently, pointing to the front door of the winery.

When you opened the door, your heart exploded at the sight before you: your husband cradling your tiny baby like it was his lifeline, the two of them dreaming pleasantly as the sun continued to rise over the horizon of Teyvat.

Another smile graced your lips as you carefully sat next to the two of them, leaning your head on Diluc’s shoulder. You plucked a dandelion off of the potted plant to your right, closing your eyes as you whispered a prayer and blew the seeds away…

“Thank you. Barbatos, for your blessing of my beautiful family.”

just a few trans kaeya & diluc headcanons i wanted to share :)

(disclaimer: i do not personally headcanon diluc as trans, but i still wanted to make this post)

when diluc came out, it was less of a surprise than kaeya's coming out, as diluc was always more of a tomboy.

in terms of transitioning, kaeya has had top surgery but not bottom, but diluc still binds/has had no surgeries. diluc has, however, been on t (or the teyvat equivalent) for longer.

kaeya constantly teases diluc about it. he'll say stuff along the lines of 'do you remember when -insert embarrassing moment when diluc was figuring out his identity-?' and diluc is done with his bullshit (as usual)

crepus & adelinde did their best with aiding both boys' transitions as diluc was frustrated more often because he was unhappy and kaeya wouldn't speak up if he was dysphoric/upset.
