Game On! 5 Startups Propelling India To Become A Global Online Gaming Hub

As per a KPMG report, in FY21, the Indian online gaming industry was esteemed at Rs 13,600 crore and was expected to grow beyond twofold by FY25 to arrive at a market size of Rs 29,000 crore.

In FY21, Games24x7 reported total revenue of $173 million, with profit after tax at $50.5 million, as per a Tofler report.

Zupee

Gurugram-based gaming startup Zupee offers games, including Zupee Gold, Ludo Supreme Gold, and Ludo Ninja Gold games, on the iOS and Android platforms, with an arrangement to play games on the web browser.

The India-based casual gaming startup, established in 2018 by Dilsher Singh and Siddhant Saurabh, has more than 70 million downloads in India.

In August 2021, Zupee had gotten $30 million in a Series B funding round, with an extra investment of $72 million in January 2022 — taking the total revenue brought up in the round to $102 million — and was rated at $600 million.

The Series B round saw participation from investors, including WestCap Group, Tomales Bay Capital, Nepean Capital, AJ Capital, Matrix Partners India, and Orios Venture Partners.

Zupee said it will utilize the cash flow to foster new items, improve vivid design encounters, venture into new geographics, increase advertising, reach, penetration, exploration, and advancement, and recruit top talent.

The Smile Group-backed startup has collaborated with Jio Platforms to circulate its content to Jio Phone users.

The startup intends to use this organization to carry out additional quality games in various dialects to make Zupee the best gaming platform in India, associating with Bharat users.

Further, the startup plans to capture the 5G handset market—estimated to sell more than 150 million 5G handsets before its commercial launch in India—with this partnership with Jio.

WinZO

In 2016, Piyush Kumar and Dipesh Agarwal began Delhi-based gaming startup Rooter as a social network and online community for sports fans—like Fancred and Chat Sports in the US and FanCode in India.

Established in 2019 by Roby John, Sanket Nadhani, Christelle D'cruz, Sreejit J, and Navneet Waraich, SuperGaming has fabricated well-known mobile games like MaskGun, Silly Royale, and Tower Conquest.
