When Xros Wars takes place
For the longest time, I assumed that Xros Wars was set in 2010, the same year it premiered. However, after thinking about that assumption would throw a wrench in my theory regarding Kiyoshiro from Ghost Game (which takes at an unspecified point in the future, but I’m hoping it’s around 2030) secretly being Ryouma Mogami’s son, I decided to re-watch episode 30 of Xros wars to see if I could find anything to justify considering that Xros Wars may actually take place earlier than 2010. Sure enough, during the scene where Taiki is telling his mom about his adventure, a calendar can be seen in the background that says 29 in what appears to be a Sunday slot. Since main events of Xros Wars are established in-show to take place before and during Marine Day (which occurs in July), I then proceeded to look up when July 29 occurred on a Sunday. According to what I found, the more recent instances of July 29 being on a Sunday were in 2007, 2012, and 2018. Therefore, we can assume that Xros Wars takes place during 1 of these years. I’m personally going with 2007 because it works better with my ideas for Digimon next generation story.
Edit: My dad has recently informed me that calendars that have Monday begin the row (which actually makes more sense) do exist, which means that years where July 29 occurred on a Monday are also viable for the setting of Xros Wars. This expands the possible setting list to 2013.

Remember when I said I might to a Xros Wars liveblog/rewatch becuase I don’t remember it all that well?  No? Well today is apparently the 8th anniversary of Digimon Fusion, and while I’m going to go off of the sub (Xros Qars), if I’m going to do this re-watch liveblog thing it’s as good a time as any to start.
Haven’t really tried anything of this style, so I’m experimenting a little bit.
(Have to turn off the beta for this because pic limit, lol tumblr)
Pic of the day: Common sense
Tumblr media Tumblr media
We open with a menacing army full of Mookmon, sorry, Troopmon, Tankmon, and some bigger baddies. Like physically bigger, I don’t recall them being very important. (I see you Valvemon in the top left.)
Tumblr media
Then we get introduced to a human and a trio of Digimon that will in no way be important.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
There’s also an army of good guys, you can tell they are good guys because they show up in previous seasons.  I uh, only actually remember two of them appearing in this show.
Tumblr media
Anyway, Taiki says Digixros a bunch, and the three non-silhouettes merge together into….x4?  Poor Starmon I guess, no recognition.
X4 then solos the army of Mookmon, which is probably why the rest of the ‘good’ army never appears again, clearly they are superfluous.  But X4 gets taken down by a lone off-color Greymon because nostalgia.
Tumblr media
..and it was a dream.
Tumblr media
(So Akari and Zenjirou don’t matter....that sounds about right.)
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
We are then introduced to Akari, who is trying to deduce exactly which ball-based team sport she got stood up for.
Tumblr media
She stops midway to take a selfie, kids these days, amirite?  Also to grab a bag with Taiki’s name on it...literally.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
Taiki manages to pull an MVP move on the basketball court, by pretending to be in a sports anime when really just passing to a teammate.  Thus securing the team the win that he’s been looking for for months… sorry, I mean four days.
Yeah, that’s a Taiki thing.  The kid is a prodigy at nearly anything he picks up.  The implication is that he throws himself into it completely, and then:
Tumblr media
He does not necessarily pick the best time or place for a nap.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
Akari being the best character (of this arc)
Taiki reveals that his need to throw himself headfirst is because of a desire to help those in need, not because he’s just showing off.
(I am reminded how much his gary-stu ness annoyed me the first time I watched this.)
Tumblr media Tumblr media
Zenjirou shows up and I’m def going to spell that name wrong at some point.  He’s mostly here for comic relief, but also to reinforce that Taiki can pick up a sport (kendo) in a couple of days and beat people who have been training their entire lives.
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
While Akari and Zenjirou rehash the great 1998 case of Bros V. Hoes, Taiki hears the voice of a dying king, then suddenly: chaos.  Cars merge into walls, phones stop working, the sky turns green, dogs and cats, living together.
Turns out, cars superimposed into building are not stable.  The strange voice warns Taiki of the falling car, and after he saves his friends, he is now able to see the tortured outline of Shoutmon.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
All well and good, Taiki, but how do you propose helping the disembodied light?
(We also get a flashback to baby Taiki between these)
Shoutmon soft-mocks Taiki for trying to help him, and Taiki points out Shoutmon did the same, just in case you didn’t believe they were destined partners.
Tumblr media
Floating toy with another disembodied voice.  Offering to help if Taiki accepts, he does and the x loader turns from white to red.  The others reasonably do not think touching the floating mystical toy is a good idea.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
They wake up in a strange world, normal Digimon stuff, turns out the X-loader doubles as a Pokecenter, very convinent.
Then, suddenly the army of mookmon appear, lead by a new Digimon:
Tumblr media
(Look. if the writers determined you were going to die every season, you wouldn’t be very happy either.)
Tumblr media
But then dream Digimon #2 shows up to save them, alongside a bunch of babies.  Shoutmon also comes out to fight.  .
We get a quick sequence of the allies using special attacks to wipe the floor with the mooks, normal debut episode things.  Then Madleomon gets mad that a human is involved and absorbs all his friends to…Digivolve?
Tumblr media Tumblr media
(They missed a perfect opportunity for raving MadLeomon)
Tumblr media
Uhh, good plan?
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
The mysterious voice tells Taiki to use the x-loader, which he does to form…the top half of a super-fighting robot.  Which lasts long enough to get off one punch before dissolving. He then xroses the Starmon and Pickmons into a sword, (will happen a bunch.) just in case you weren’t sure of the core mechanic.
Tumblr media
Madleomon’s powerup breaks, and he gets forced back, namedropping a greater villain.  Tactimon, obsessed with perfection.  Which is a good thing, because if he’s like half the perfectionist I know he’ll be too busy sorting out all the details of his plan to actually execute it.
Tumblr media
Coming on a little strong there bub.  Maybe take him out for a coffee first?
Tumblr media
The name of the kids this time is generals, but that also gets extended to some Digimon.
If you are used to normal Digimon seasons, this is going to be a bit of a jump.  It isn’t the normal 1 human 1 partner here.  This is a battle of armies, (but mostly just jogress ++)
Tumblr media
And yeah, they know nothing.
Tumblr media
Keep being creepy Nene.
Tumblr media
And also blond blue boy featuring off-color Greymon.
And thus ends the first episode that was mostly about introducing Taiki, and the concept of Digixrosing. Also uses a lot of X4 for never showing every component.
Final note: add break card
Tumblr media
I think maaayyybe Vmon shows up in a limited capacity?  For a series that is perfectly willing to completely ignore levels and do something completely different in terms of evolution, there sure is a lot of nostalgia pandering.

Pick your poison: rewatching all the stock footage at Adventure’s finale for the 54th time in a row, or watching the non-footage in episode 65′s battle
Episode 66, The Last Miracle, the Last Power
Same as before, I’m just enjoying the finale for what it is
Negamon’s evolution is pretty creepy tho, nice
And I am enjoying the use of Extreme Fight here
I do like knowing how Negamon’s evolutions were very much inspired by FMA’s Pride, it makes for some very nostalgic visuals here (even if the nostalgia is kind of misplaced?? Lmao)
Oh the second half is getting weird, I love this atmosphere holy shit
DEVIMON?!
This episode is fun
I do think it’s lame Omegamon ends up being the solution here, again, but like. I guess it was unavoidable
Episode 67, The End of the Adventure
It’s the last episode boys
Negamon’s final form is... Anticlimactic but also kinda fun
Oh you’re Our War Gaming it lmao
Oh man Negamon’s final form really is just an ugly Omegamon lmao lame
But I’ll forgive it because this action is actually great and fun to watch
LMAO THAT OMEGAMON VARIANT
Endless Possibility...
I like that Psi acknowledges Negamon will probably be reborn again... (I’ll never stop being lowkey upsetti that none of Adventure’s sequels really acknowledge that)
RED LINES WE’RE OUR WAR GAMING IT FOR SURE
WE’RE ALL 0S AND 1S
This is cute
TO A NEW WORLD
FUCK THAT WAS CUTE THEY YELLED IT TOGETHER like when they yelled after defeating Apocalymon fuck that’s cute dude
And Leomon survived all the way until the end, it’s a Christmas miracle, the curse is truly finally broken, and Leomon can live
Leomon saying “no, perhaps”, just like he (Hirata) did at the end of Adventure...
That was cute

Digimon AUdventure Rec Post
Hi, guys! Man, if there’s one thing the last few days sure have shown us, it’s that we sure are a series of fleeting electrical signals stored in decaying meat husks, slowly realising that our attempts to impose order on a world that seemingly operates on dream logic are futile!
There’s no punchline here!
Have a distraction!
Tumblr media
Digimon Adventure 2020, available with a one week delay entirely legally on Crunchyroll, is a re-imagining/straight up AU fic of classic late 90s anime series Digimon Adventure 01, which followed eight Japanese children as they are thrown into an alien world and partnered with eight Digimon, monsters that evolve into more powerful fighting forms.
With excellent character writing, an intricate but often laconically conveyed lore and symbolism, a lot of social commentary which completely passed over my and also most people who weren’t Japanese’s heads and which fanboys apparently get quite angry about if you remind them of it, and some surprisingly fun battles, Digimon Adventure 01 would go on to spawn several movies and two sequel series, following the kids into middle school, high school, and all the way into their early twenties.
(And beyond, because Last Evolution is almost certainly getting a sequel eventually, having left itself open for one and with Toei being very fond of money.)
It also spawned several series set in different continuities, including dark and brooding Lovecraftian horror Digimon Tamers; peppy Super Sentai/Kamen Rider inspired adventure Digimon Frontier; fresh and aimed-at-very-young-audiences Appmon; 90s style cop show Digimon Savers; and prolonged test of my fucking patience Digimon Xros Wars.
Digimon Adventure 2020, while it has yet to show the same writing chops as Adventure 01, is a well-written, well-animated show with eight immensely likeable but very different main characters. At its best, it manages to achieve heights of being straight-up epic that 01 rarely did, and at its worst, it’s still a whole lot of fun with a lot of heart to it, written and produced by people for whom this is clearly a passion project.
Tumblr media
At the time of writing, it’s completed two story arcs and is on a third, one that pits Local Enthusiasm Peddler Taichi Yagami, Feral Tsundere Yamato Ishida, and Happy-Go-Lucky Threat To National Security Koushiro Izumi against Algomon, a plant Digimon who wants to cause havoc with trains and also nuclear missiles; one that introduces Super-Jock And Spirited Kindness Advocate Sora Takenouchi, Rich Girl And Dictator Of The Plant People Mimi Tachikawa, and Competitive Panic Attack Player Jyou Kido, and sets the kids against shadowy eye monster Eyesmon; and one that sees Yamato’s little brother, Takeru, joining the team and clashing against arc villain Devimon, while Sora and company attempt to stop a squid lady from attacking Singapore.
It’s great fun! Unless you hate monsters covered in eyes and child endangerment! Then it is not great fun!
Tumblr media
Other things about the series:
-- Taichi is constantly enthusing about how clever and brave Yamato is, and Yamato is constantly responding by scowling at him like he wants to hit the poor guy.
-- Sora has a knife!
-- The Takaishida brothers have no sense of self-preservation and it’s terrible.
-- Ominous Feather Scenes.
-- The pervasive sense that you aren’t being told something, and are missing a crucial piece of the puzzle.
-- Jyou demolishes a small bamboo hut with the sheer raw power of his anxiety.
-- Questionable parenting!
-- Taichi enthusiastically refers to Mimi as Queen Mimi and almost never questions by what legal and ethical right she has declared herself sovereign over a small kingdom of plants.
-- SkullKnightmon, one of only two good things about Xros Wars, shows up.
-- The soundtrack is actually legitimately amazing. While the writing may lag behind 01′s, Toshihiko Sahashi’s soundtrack is easily one of the best in the entire franchise, and a pretty decent contender for one of the best soundtracks in the industry.
Tumblr media
Time will tell exactly what is up with the series, there’s been a handful of events indicating that it might not be as much of an AU or reimagining as the production staff claim it to be, but either way, it is both an excellent series and a great entry point to a really excellent franchise.
(Except you, Xros Wars! Give me back the forty hours you stole from me!)
Tumblr media
Anyway, I recommend it, and standing at a little over twenty twenty-minute episodes right now, it’s perfect for either binge-watching or watching one episode at a time in between doing other things. I 100% promise you won’t regret it, unless you do.
Digimon Adventure 2020 on Crunchyroll.

Note
Skitty do you mind asking what is your favorite Digimon series ho you rank them in order?
Okay so my favorite isn’t the one I’d rank number but my favorite is Digimon Savers.
It’s the one I grew up watching ep-by-ep instead of re-runs and actually watched all the eps in order so I knew what the heck was happening.
Also I believe it’s one of the more competent and well-written series aka I think it makes sense and could potentially happen irl.
-the govnerment handles the digimon, makes people forget that theyre are digimon to prevent a panic, and if you want a digimon you have to work for them
-the group is older than most digimon series which thank god because humans play a big role in this series and if they were nonchalant about giant monsters orz
-Kurata is probably the best villain in the franchise because he’s very human and it makes sense to be afraid of monsters (until he fused with one to take over the world smh)
-It explains digimon compatibility and why certain people have digimon (and in Savers case, why they only have one bc savers crosses over with Digimon World DS and Dawn/Dusk where you can have multiple digimon)
-GAVE US THE COOLEST AGUMON LINE FUCK YOU ITS BETTER THAN OG EVEN JAPAN VOTED RIZEGREYMON AS THEIR SECOND FAVORITE ULTIMATE/PERFECT LEVEL DIGIMON
But for the actual ranking (and I’m separating Hunters from Xros Wars because different protags):
1. Tamers
2. Savers
3. Adventure
4. Universe
5. Xros Wars
6. Adventure 02
7. Frontier
8. Tri
9. Hunters
And just for clarification I don’t hate or dislike any of the lower listed ones expect for Tri. It can choke

Combat and Tamers: A Delicate Balance
Um. Hi. Yeah I know it’s been ages since I’ve posted. Most of you who are on the Discord already know, but with the new job things have been a bit crazy, but this issue has been a long time coming.
I’m glad that as my time as a developer for the system, I’ve been able to buff and allow more variance for Combat Tamers, I’m glad I was able to give people some more joy in their characters, but I seem to be running into an issue over and over again.
A lot of people are focusing far too much on their characters being able to punch things, when DDA as a system, and Digimon as a whole, is about so much more than that.
So let’s dive into the narrative balance of a Combat Tamer and their partner Digimon.
Warning: big walls of text and spoilers for Savers.
Tumblr media
Now I’m going to preface this with the fact that I’ve been presented with several concepts for Qualities revolving around Digimon like Zubamon turning into armor and weapons for their Tamer, essentially a Weaponize Quality.
I am not going to be supporting such Qualities in vanilla DDA. If you want to make a houserule for it, I won’t stop you by any means, but I feel like such a Quality would only further exacerbate the issues I’m seeing with Combat Tamers, rather than alleviate them.
At a certain point with a Combat Tamer, one has to ask themselves: where would it be easier and more flavorful to just be a Hybrid Digimon?
Because I get it. It doesn’t make inherent sense that normal humans will always be able to damage creatures who can essentially face tank a nuclear warhead exploding in their face, much less Digimon whose mere presence is so powerful that it warps Spacetime.
But I’m going away from the main point: I’m starting to see a lot of people who are treating their Digimon either as combat accessories or someone just kind of sitting there on the sidelines.
This isn’t okay, and I want people to know that I don’t care for character dynamics like that any more than I like Tamers who are basically useless lumps on the sidelines.
A Digimon duo is two parts of one whole, and if one part is more fun to play than the other, something’s gone wrong and needs to be fixed. Don’t get me wrong, I get that people have favorites, but if you find yourself only caring about your Tamer and not your Digimon, it might be time to take a step back and re-evaluate your playstyle.
Tumblr media
I’m going to be using Masaru as an example here, because people seem to like to try and emulate what he does... or at least, what they thought he did. With the exception of two fights in Savers and the alternate universe fight in Xros Wars, Masaru was not some Digimon-pummeling powerhouse people like to make him out to be.
What? What am I saying?
Bear with me just a bit here, trust me this is important to my little rant here.
Masaru wasn’t the real combat ace of the duo. He had a novel method of initiating Digivolution and he had several instances of actually winning fights himself once he mastered Digisoul a bit more, but overall, you know what happened?
Agumon won the fights. Masaru got his Digisoul flowing with a punch, then Agumon finished it. The punch might stun the enemy or slow them down, but it wasn’t the finishing blow. The only real exceptions within Savers, were Belphymon (and even that’s a bit of a stretch as ShineGreymon still dealt a ton of damage itself), and Yggdrasil (one could also argue Craniummon). But that was at the end of the series when the character had matured, developed, and started to finally and truly grasp the mechanics of the world he lived in, not right off the bat at the start of a story.
Agumon and Masaru are a dynamic duo to the core: they both compliment each other, they both need each other, they encourage each other, cheer for each other, and fight as a team. One member isn’t more important than the other in a fight, in fact there was an entire episode dedicated to this within Savers. Without Agumon, Masaru got his ass handed to him, and without Masaru, Agumon can’t Digivolve.
But it’s more than fighting. These two characters complimented each other’s personalities and made each other grow as they bonded. Masaru was devastated when he realized the pain he’d caused Agumon with the Ruin Mode incident, and was horrified about the possibility of his friend not recognizing him ever again, and was overjoyed when Koromon hatched out of that Digitama and recognized him.
Tumblr media
They worked together, they complimented each other, and they fought together. While there was a clear pecking order in terms of who was in charge, Agumon wasn’t just a passive observer to Masaru’s brawling skills. In fact, even in episode 1, they were shown to be, well, about equal in terms of fighting, Masaru barely coming out on top against a Rookie level Digimon.
A Digimon and a Tamer need to have some level of dynamic. If one of them is just sitting there watching, something’s gone wrong, and it’s up to us as players and GM’s to recognize this and go about fixing it.
Never forget to flesh out one half of your dynamic duo. And if you do make a Combat Tamer, think of ways your Digimon can still be useful. Maybe one half functions as the Tank while the other is the Striker if you want to stick to purely mechanical duos. Or maybe one is the hothead while the other is the voice of reason, maybe they both encourage each other to strive and grow stronger as people every day, or maybe they squabble over who actually got the last hit on the enemy.
Digimon are more than just accessories to a fight, and both Tamer and Digimon are more than just a pile of numbers ready to be used when they have to be. And I just wanted to make sure everyone remembered that, because it’s a subject I care very deeply about when it comes to Digimon. And I’ve found that this is overlooked most often whenever the player focuses on how they can keep their Combat Tamer up to snuff, instead of crossing that bridge when they get to it. If you have concerns, talk with your GM, but be respectful if they don’t want normal humans being able to fight on-par with Mega level threats. Not every game needs people who can punch Yggdrasil in the face and beat it to a pulp. And that’s okay.
And don’t forget, Masaru was also a very charismatic and strong-willed character. If you are trying to emulate him and keep up at late game, maybe invest a few points into Charisma if your game doesn’t have the means for you to keep up. There’s nothing wrong with a character learning that they can’t keep punching their way out of things and have to support their teammate either. If anything this can make for a wonderful character arc; the ex-combat tamer can grow as a person and instead use their experience to guide their Digimon partner to victory with the confidence of a seasoned veteran, or who starts to study battle tactics when they realize they can’t just overpower everything they come across, and learns something as a result.
But if you’re just playing your Digimon, or just playing your human half, it might be better to have asked for a Hybrid character type rather than a normal one, because that is admittedly easier to write, and one doesn’t have to worry about falling out of combat later on. And that’s okay too! Spirit Evolution is a legitimate way to run a game, and you shouldn’t be afraid to allow it.
Now go forth, and make both halves of your character sheet shine bright!

So I was at Kitacon this weekend 18th to 20th August. I was happy to find out that an article I’d written for the con book made it in! (as pictured above). Now that the con is over and I’m home. Here is exactly what I wrote: It feels like only yesterday I would sit and watch the first Digimon (Digimon Adventure (Season 1) on CITV.  But Digimon did not start with the Animation. It started on the 26th June 1997 with the release of the Digimon V-Pet in Japan. Yup that's right, Digimon is now officialy 20 years old. Feeling old yet? I am lol as I was 14 at the time! You could raise Digimon like Agumon or even Devimon in the very first V-Pet. Ah if only I had been able to keep my original V-Pets and Digivices. Still, I have been very fortunate to get some of my collection back over the years and have recently ordered the 20th Anniversary from Japan. Digimon Adventure first started in Japan on the 6th of March 1999 and ran for 54 episodes into March 2000. The English dub started to air in America in August 99 to June 2000. We were introduced to the 'original' Chosen Children (Digidestined dub). I have keen memories of writing down the evolution lines while I was watching the dub and this drove me to start my own Digimon website (Digital Starlight) in 2001. Although it is no longer updated, the site still lives. Most of my favourite Digimon and cosplay have come from Adventure. I have cosplayed Vamdemon/Myotismon, Tailmon/Gatomon and Hikari Yagami/Kari Kamiya. I would one day like to cosplay Wizarmon/Wizardmon and PicoDevimon/DemiDevimon. Digimon Adventure Zero Two (02) first started in Japan on the 2nd April 2000 and ran for 50 episodes into March 2001. The dub started in America in August 2000 and ran to May 2001. The Chosen Children expanded a lot, we got new types of evolution (Jogress/DNA and Armour). I would like to cosplay the Digimon Kaiser at some point and was rather disappointed when there were no United Kingdom Chosen in the Digimon World Tour. Also it marked the return of my favourite Digimon villan – Vamdemon/Myotismon. It was towards the end of Season 2 that I was introduced into Real Media clips from Japan that took ages to download on 56k dial up! Digimon Tamers first started in Japan on the 1st April 2001 and ran for 51 episodes into March 2002. The dub started in America in September 2001 and ran to June 2002. We met new Digimon Tamers and their partners and this series was darker than the previous two. Digimon died and were not reborn like previous seasons. This was not expected and depression was tackled in youngsters. Afterall Juri/Jeri's Digimon Leomon died and sent her spiralling. For some, Tamers wasn't popular and for some they loved it. I'm more in the middle ground. Digimon Frontier first started in Japan on the 7th April 2002 and ran for 50 episodes into March 2003. The dub started in America in September 2002 and ran to March 2003. Digimon Frontier never aired in the UK and a friend in Australia ended up taping me the episodes from TV and sending me the VHS'! Digimon Frontier was very different. There were no Digimon partners, the children Spirit Evolved into their Digimon forms. Frontier was considered as 'the end' at one point. People did not like it didn't have partners or the drawn out Royal Knights story line. By  the time Frontier ended in Japan. There was no new Digimon show ready to take it's place. There was a hiatus, only broken by a Japanese Movie Digital Monster X-Evolution in January 2005. No humans, just a pure story about Digimon that got rather confusing at times. Then it was back to waiting until... Digimon Savers/Digimon Data Squad. Diginon Savers first started in Japan on the 2nd April 2006 and ran for 48 Episodes until March 2007. The dub, Digimon Data Squad, started in October 2007 and ran to November 2008. Data Squad was aired on an obscure channel called Kix at the time. Digimon Savers followed another new route with 'DATS – Digital Accident Tactics Squad' and the Humans partnered with Digimon were for the most part teenagers (Minus Ikuto/Keenan who was younger). Once again, this season was a little darker as it was shown how Digimon can be 'corrupted' with huamn thoughts' and even went so far to have a Nazi-esq evil human called Kurata who wanted to destroy all Digimon! We were also introduced to Yggdrasil (King Drasil) the god of the Digital World...and once again at set of Royal Knights. Some good..some not so good. Once again, we had another hiatus and paved the way to... Digimon Xros Wars/Digimon Fusion. Digimon Xros ran for 79 episodes in total and was in three different parts. It ran in Japan from 6th July 2010 to March 2012. The dub has only covered the first 54 episodes, Part 3 having not been dubbed. The dub Digimon Fusion started in America in September 2013 and ran to August 2015. Part 1 is just known as  Digimon Xros Wars and was 30 Episodes long. Digimon did not evolve as normal at first as they had to Xros using multiple Digimon to create Xrossed up Digimon (I.e Shoutmon X2, X3 X4 etc). Digimon levels as we knew them were thrown out of the window and things were somewhat war like. Part 2 is known as  Digimon Xros Wars The Evil Death Generals and the Seven Kingdom and covered Episodes 31 to 54. Bagramon had won and turned the Digital World into his own image and placed several of his Death Generals into the seven single zones. The Chosen having to fight each to re-take back over the Digital World. Part 3 originally wasn't meant to happen and was more of an off shoot of Digimon Xros. It is known as The Boy Hunters Who Leapt Through Time. While it had Taiki/Mikey and Yuu from Parts 1 and 2 it also featured a new set of Characters. Episodes 55 to 79 were covered and are generally considered 'they don't exist' by some fans. Hunters went so far as crossing over with the other Digimon series and bringing in the 'Goggle boys and several other chosen/Tamers cast members' fan service like...which honestly...didn't do it for me. Once again, we had another hiatus and paved the way to something that many Digimon fans were very excited for... Digimon Adventure tri. This is currently still ongoing, with Part 5 Symbiosis of Part 6 airing on 30th September 2017! Tri Part 1: Reunion  was released on the 21st November 2015. Part 2: Determination on 12th March 2016, Part 3 Confession on 24th September 2016 and Part 4 Loss on 25th February 2017. Each Episode was released the same day, subbed, in America and other places (sadly not UK) on Crunchyroll. The original eight chosen are back...with a new addition of Meiko and her partner Meicoomon! The Zero Two children (Minus Hikari and Takeru) are 'currently unknown' status. Digimon are getting infected, the infection is making them very strong and attacking the human world. The Chosen, 3 years older after the events of Zero Two, start to take the burden and responsibility of still being Chosen with the attacks happening in the real world. Part 1: Reunion Dub (Japanese Audio and Subs available as well) was released in the UK on DVD and Blu-Ray on 22nd May 2017. Part 2 Determination dub is due out in America on 15th August 2017. At the same time, we currently have... Digimon Universe: Appli Monsters. It started to air in Japan on 1st October 2016 and is still airing. There is currently no dub. It introduces another new casting characters and Digimon are known as Appmon. So far as writing this, there are no 'old school' Digimon. A being known as Leviathan is wanting to turn all Appmon evil and our heroes must stop him! I actually need to catch up on Applimon! It does feel strange that Digimon has, pardon the expression, evolved so much over the years. Not only does it have animation, it has several manga. My favourte of these manga being Digimon Adventure V-Tamer 01. A different Taichi Yagami and his partner Zeromaru the V-Dramon must save the Digital World from Demon and his 'child' Arkadimon. There were also English Adaptations of Season 1 to 3 of the anime with Tokyopop. Digimon is still going strong over 20 years. I hope you have enjoyed the little overview of Digimon and here is to another 20 years! Now the Adventure Evolves. ~Vande~

Out of pure curiosity, how were you introduced to Digimon?
It’s a shockingly slow process.
As a Pokémon fan, I heard a lot of kids talk about Digimon on the side. Though I never really found myself in arguments about which was better–in my experience, it was always Pokémon VS Yu-Gi-Oh!, which I find odd because mechanically they’re so much different from each other that it doesn’t make sense to compare them, but when kids argued the reasons as to why Yu-Gi-Oh! was “edgier” than Pokémon… the reasons they argued were almost always contradictory or matched up with Pokémon (ex. Yu-Gi-Oh! is an edgier story when it has… the Heart of the Cards™ and Power of Teamwork/Friendship™. Grade school kid’s logic I guess.)
But back to Digimon. I never actually saw Digimon Adventure or Digimon Adventure 02 as a kid. When Pokémon wasn’t coming on when I came back from school, I incidentally ran into Fox Kids airing Digimon Tamers instead. And wouldn’t you know it, the first episodes I saw were the actual first episodes. Right off the bat I liked Takato as a main character and thought Guilmon was an adorable dinosaur critter and some of his Digivolutions were cool, and I liked how their relationship started. From there, I just saw random episodes. I think I mostly saw episodes from the Devas arc, reflecting on my memories now. But other than that, my memory of actually watching Digimon as a child is honestly super hazy. I think I only stuck with it for a few months before I lost track, but such is life watching cartoons as a child with only the newspaper and maybe the TV Guide channel to tell you when something was coming on. Even then, you had to be super dedicated to actually follow it. It never helped that networks tend to air episodes out of order, so good luck if you’re watching a children’s show with a linear, formulated story.
From there, I just knew Digimon from popular culture. I was always neutral on it. The closest I ever got to it again until recently was when the Nostalgia Critic reviewed the American Digimon movie with JesuOtaku. I watched the Nostalgia Critic with my friend at the time who explained Digimon better to me (since I was unfamiliar with the Adventure universe and barely remembered Digimon Tamers by then).
Come a couple years later, and my friend randomly decided to give Digimon Story: Cyber Sleuth a chance after years of having not touched Digimon. I was with him at the time, and I watched him play it with an open mind. I found that I liked the monster designs a bit more and it was just interesting to watch. So towards the end of last year, I was convinced “Hey, try watching the Digimon anime sometime.” And so it began.
I started with Digimon Adventure, and I fell in love with its simplicity yet subtle depth. The characters were great, the Digimon partners were fun and adorable (I walked in with Gabumon/Garurumon as my favorite, walked out with Gomamon as my son). I watched Digimon Adventure 02, and I was worried it would ruin the original series for me, and while it definitely has its big problems, it had aspects that were worth watching it for (Ken and Armadillomon). Gradually got to Digimon Tamers and it was not only a faint yet pleasant nostalgia trip, it was a great way to re-experience it and know the series in full, and I really loved how intricate the series is. Then I… eventually watched Digimon Frontier and riffed it for most of the part and probably won’t be doing repeat watches (except maybe the Gomamon pod episode because best Digimon and it’s the one episode I can really find Zoe tolerable or even likable in), but again, there were a couple aspects worth a single watch (the movie and my boy Koichi my gosh). Then most recently, I watched Digimon Savers and it was just awesome. A super fun and good series.
I probably won’t be watching Digimon Xros Wars or Appmon, especially the third season of the former because I know it’s just terrible. I have kind of considered maybe giving Appmon a chance, but only if I hear really good things about it. From here I’ve just been wanting to play some of the video games, been waiting on watching more of tri (both sub and dub) and have just been reminiscing about how good a lot of these shows were. I still need to listen to a ton of the drama CDs though, aaaaaaaAAAA–
… I’ve also kind of been quietly sort of thinking about Digimon characters and fun crossovers in my head but SHHHHHHHHH NO ONE KNOWS ABOUT THAT.

Top 5 kid shows that got worse as they continued.
They’re not in any particular order, but I will give my explanation for each one. So let’s get started.
Pokemon It was great at first. Kanto is a classic, while the Orange Islands and Johto seasons were pretty good too. But once Ash got to Hoenn, my issues with him were pretty much set in stone. My biggest problem is that Ash has not really grown up not in terms of age, but I’m talking mentally. Its like each new region he goes to, he mentally starts from scratch and reverts into an incompetent trainer, which is really sad considering how he ends up being a tolerable character at the end of each region’s arc and then we have to start the process all over again for the next region.
Digimon Digimon still holds my heart, especially Adventure 01 and Tamers, but after Tamers the show just collapses. I’m not sure what could’ve been done to help Frontier, while Savers would’ve benefited from another round of edits in the planning stage. I can’t even begin to describe my issues with Fusion/Xros Wars... As for Adventure Tri, my nostalgia for it is strong, but I’m still not sure if that’s enough or not.
Power Rangers (Neo-Saban Era) Power Rangers is another show I have a hard time talking smack about since its my ride or die. There have been terrible seasons. There have been amazing seasons. However, the Neo-Saban Era is bad season after bad season. So far Dino Charge has helped minimize the Samurai and Megaforce problem, but Ninja Steel hasn’t gone on long enough for me to cast a final judgment if Neo-Saban is worth saving or not.
Big Bad Beetleborgs  This show was such a mess that even as a kid, I wasn’t convinced if I liked it or not. And re-watching it, now I understand why I wasn’t so heartbroken when it was cancelled. Maybe if I watched Metal Heroes then at least I could see if the Japanese original is amazeballs in comparison to its American counterpart.
Beast Wars/Machines  It had such a strong start and it was also my introduction into the Transformers franchise. The first season is great, but after that the show starts to lose its marbles. While the later seasons of Beast Wars certainly had memorable episodes that I rewatch from time to time, the first season tried to establish it as being outside of the G1 continuity that it felt really odd when the writers inserted it into the G1 universe. As for Beast Machines...no comment.

hey i havent watched Digimon since i was a kid. whats a good series to get back into it with?
Suppose it depends on what you watched as a kid, did you finish the whole season? A re-watch is always great!
The beginning of Digimon seasons can feel a little slow at times if you're a seasoned vet to the series. But the middle-> till the ending is always a wild ride. I remember watching Tamers, S3, as a kid, but never the ending up until a few years ago
The short answer is: Chronological Order:
Adventure
02
Tamers
Frontier
Savers (dub name: Data Squad)
Xros Wars (dub name: Fusion) +
Young Hunters (a continuation, disputed amongst fans if it should count as apart of xros wars or it's own season, but you still have to watch xros wars prior-
Universe: Appmon
Digimon Adventure: (or Digimon Psi as many fans are still calling it)
The Galaxy Brain answer is: Watch Appmon.
It's a GREAT season, fully available free on crunchyroll (albeit with ads)
And I haven't heard a single complaint from someone whose watched it- (AND FINISHED IT)
The #Not Sponsored answer is: Watch Psi!!!
Episode 3 is premiering tonight on Crunchyroll for prem subscribers!!!
You can join us all on this new season as it unfolds!!! New episodes are available on Crunchyroll, 7:30 PST on Saturdays

SO I GOT THIS ASK AND TUMBLR BROKE IT, I meant to have a Read More in this post but for some reason the Read More got attached to the ASK ITSELF nothing would fix it
I’m just reposting my reply again. Here we go
Sorry for taking like. Almost 2 months to reply to this, I just kind of very intentionally wanted to wait until we’d know when Psi is coming back before I’d watch the clipshow so I could use it has a refresher, instead of rewatching the first three episodes again
Well, we now know when Psi is coming back (next Sunday for people with CR Premium and two weeks from now for the rest of us), so I’m finally watching it! And what the hell, there’s a bunch of other new previews for Episode 4 so I’ll watch those too
Naturally, discussing spoilery content under the cut
Starting with the Clipshow of Episodes 1-3…
DEATHMON! :D I can’t remember if Deathmon has really appeared outside of V-Tamer and while I’m not expecting to get like a great character or anything, seeing this fairly unused mon makes me happy
Koushirou be hanging out in weird space… Wonder if we’re gonna see an interpretation of Vadermon’s subdimension in Psi…
AH, YES, THE THING THAT HAS EVERYBODY LOSING THEIR SHIT. THE ANGEL DIGIMON
AAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAA okay look. This is like fanservice for me specifically because seeing the Angel Digimon Who Are Meant To Have Important Roles in Null Lore is such a joy, like it’s something I’d write about if I was making a Digimon story so knowing we’re gonna see all these guys, even just briefly, having a major role makes me so excited.
Also a few of these we have never seen as any kind of characters, like Frontier had the Three Arch Angels and Xros Wars had *a* SlashAngemon, but Clavis Angemon has never appeared at all so I’m HYPED (IDK I think Clavis just has the coolest design?). Also Rasielmon is there, which is so cool too since we never saw her in tri., only Raguelmon!
I am wondering why Valdurmon is there since Valdurmon isn’t really an angel-Digimon at all, tho it is a Holy Bird so. I guess it can count? I am disappointed by Valdurmon’s size, in Null Lore it’s meant to have a wingspan of 30 meters so unless the Angels are all MASSIVE or Valdurmon is just further back in the distance, yeah, tha’s a tiny birb Digimon. Kinda sad about that
The scene of a mountain with a temple inside a crater transforming into a beautiful city is facinating… As is the guiding light to said mountain? It’s making me wonder if Psi is going to be a bit like Frontier in the begining, where the goal of the kids is to find a place where there’s Angel Digimon (or like, their remains)
Okay, moving onto some other preview videos…
IS THAT AN EVOLUTION SEQUENCE?!
Tumblr media
YEEEEEES THEY’RE BRINGING SOME KIND OF EVOLUTION SEQUENCES IN I’M SO HAPPY!! Like, just to re-iterate, stock footage should be able to save Toei some money in the long term meaning we should in-return get to see better animation as a whole and/or better battle scenes, so I will GLADLY accept the stock footage evolution sequences! The preview looks dope too omg
My only hope is that they won’t be like, forced to use them everytime, in the best case scenario in important scenes/parts I’d love it if they could do fresh evolution animations, but for the unimporant scenes? Gimme the stock footage, I want it, transformation sequences are always a delight
(Also crossing my fingers for Brave Heart, even just an instrumental version of it) (Or hell, a new Miyazaki song even, you know there’s one in the new Chinese Digimon game that got announced like a few days ago, gimme more Toei)
Seeing the silhouettes of the Ultimates for everyone ‘cept Patamon and Tailmon is so weird because like… Like Adventure never stuck to any specific proportions for the Digimon, they did just go with “whatever works best here”, but man, after tri. it’s so weird seeing Rosemon TALLER than HeraclesKabuterimon
OKAY ONE LAST PREVIEW
OH MY GOD IT’S ORGEMON AND DEVIMON
RED ALERT, RED ALERT
THEY’RE BRINGING BACK OLD VILLIANS
OH GOD OH FUCK DOES THAT MEAN I GET MY DARK MASTERS LATER ON
GOD I HOPE SO, FUCK
Ooooh Valdurmon gives us some exposition?! Well, she tells Taichi and co to travel beyond the ocean to a continent, much like Gennai did (guess that means there’ll be no Gennai/Agents for Psi then, press F), and to find “The Light and Hope that will fight alongside your Warriors, the Holy Digimon”. This is not at all subtle for us but man I wonder how kids who know nothing about this franchise think about that
Also I am really curious what Digimon they’re gonna use for Patamon and Tailmon as they evolve… Like obviously they’ll still be Holy Digimon but considdering the Angel Digimon already have like important roles it makes me wonder if having two different but important Seraphimon is a good idea… Like at least Double Ofanimon can be avoided with Holydramon but what about Patamon? Unless Patamon and Tailmon are like reborn/devolved forms of the Important Angel Digimon, like the same people. In which case HELL YEAH OFANIMON FOR HIKARI!!
Man, this is so interesting though
There’s been a lot of footage so I’m sure the previews have shown footage from episodes 5 and beyond too, and I don’t have stuff to say about all of it but I think this has been enough reacting for now lol
Man, seeing where this show is going is so facinating

[[ MORE ]]
Do those even work, the app should just have a built in read morgenerater, idk. I'm just mostly talking to myself here anyway.
It's day of the dead, the point is to celebrate the life of the person, but there's always that bit of sadness that also comes at you. They're in a better place with their ancestors past, but it still actively hurts.
But the goal is to remember them fondly.
In a nostalgic bit of happysad, I really obviously miss my friend Cassandra.
This December is going to be the 10th year anniversary of her passing, and the closer we get to it, the more not okay I seem to get.
But not the point right now, I'm re-watching appmon, Crunchyroll subs ofc.
Can't help but think of her everytime we get a new Digimon anything. It was how we became friends after all!!!
I wonder if she wouldve liked Appmon, or xros wars. Tri absolutely. Had her partner Gatomon in it being super cute!!
I really miss talking to her. Kind of miss having someone irl to talk digimon in general. Like don't get me wrong, I love my online friends, but its different
She wanted to be a vet, I'm sure she would have been the best damn vet out there.
