I am still not sure how much I can explain well but for now the gist is that the girls are all childhood friends, despite having different backgrounds/upbringings.

Charlie (OC)'s father is a solicitor for the royal family which puts her family in the nouveau rich category. Sora's father is a very high ranking military official who doesn't spend much time at home. Both Charlie and Sora are very rebellious (considering the time period lol) and do not get along well with their respective mothers at all. Mimi's father belongs to the nobility but with her mother often falling sick, he lets her run free and act as per her wishes very often. Hilary too has a noble background but both her parents pass away at a very young age without proper heirs assigned so the royalty takes back her property and she grows up with a disinterested grandmother caring for her in a bare minimum fashion.

Save for Mimi, the other three girls are set to debut in the same season. Mimi is not very happy about having to wait a whole year in joining her best friends out in society, so she does attempt to manipulate her father into letting her debut early quite a few times but it just so happens that her mother's health is in a good condition on those days and she doesn't end up succeeding.

Charlie doesn't want to get married, but wants to inherit her father's soliciting business which her mother is against. When she's forced to debut, she decides to create a scandal around herself to get herself out of the marriage race and sort of doom her chances of being courted for a long time so she can focus instead on secretly studying to take over her father's work.

Sora is also not very interested in the idea of marriage and she enjoys designing/stitching clothes. But her mother is against the idea of a military officer's daughter running her own boutique, so she's eager to get Sora married off as soon as possible. Not having the will to drag her own family into a fake scandal like Charlie, she instead decides to chop off all her hair right before her presentation in front of the queen, hoping to seem more tomboyish to keep potential suitors at bay.

Hilary thinks her life couldn't possibly be more tragic but her grandmother too passes away a week before the presentation. Mimi's mother is feeling healthy at the time and offers to sponsor her for the day, and although she's dressed the most plainly, the Queen does praise her appearance which puts her in the spotlight. (Sora's mom thinks that if Sora wouldn't have cut her hair she would be the one to receive the praise and gives her shit about it for quite a few days lol) Hilary is unsure whether she's pleased with this because she does get a lot of attention from suitors and marriage would mean finally leaving behind her financial struggles, her romantic nature makes her keep her hopes up for a love match.

And all you need to know about the boys is THAT THEY'RE 1000% CERTIFIED SIMPS FOR THEIR LADIES, NO PERSONALITY OR DEPTH WHATSOEVER JUST KISSING THE GROUND THE GIRLS WALK ON FOREVER.

Jk, jk but not really, putting the plot details under the cut. Just fyi that the last names will be different, more victorian and this will follow the same logic as most of my crossovers where Tyson (Beyblade) and Tai (Digimon) are brothers.

Charlie, Sora and Hilary make their debut in society together with the spotlight being on Hilary instantly, despite of her being completely unprepared to handle it. Charlie is not looking forward to having to go through a bunch of suitors and maybe find the guy she's looking for after so many attempts. Sora just wants to escape whatever plan her mother has hatched up for her, long enough for her father to come back home so he can support her choices.

Kai, a distant relative of the Queen and Prince in line of whatever kingdom, is in town after some time away and is awarded the title of the most eligible bachelor the minute he sets foot in public. He's not happy with all the people swarming him constantly, and is even more disappointed to find that the Queen is planning to set him up with who she thinks is the best debutante this season, Hilary. He spends his time at parties, skirting the corners and hiding in the shadows where he runs into Charlie. When Charlie finds out about the Queen's plan, she knows that Hilary is too overwhelmed to handle a courtship like this, so she makes a proposal to Kai. The two can fake a courtship for the entirety of this season, after which Kai plans to go back to his travels abroad. When he's leaving they can stage a dramatic break up, where Charlie's reputation can be ruined just enough to keep her out of the running for the next few seasons. Although Kai is reluctant at first, but when he sees that Charlie really doesn't care about scandals and such, he agrees, and the two create a shocking ripple by dancing together at the Queen's ball - which dissuades the Queen and also takes the attention off Hilary so that she can finally breathe.

While Hilary is fully aware that the only way for her to secure a future with money in it is for her to find a decent match, when she's chosen as the Queen's "favourite" of the season, she ends up being tied to the centre of the society with no room for imperfection or mistakes. With only a few decent dress to wear to such fashionable events, she knows she has limited opportunity to find a husband. She does appreciate all the men approaching her without any effort on her behalf, but half of those have not read as much as her and the other half are too old for her liking. She is grateful to Charlie for taking the Prince off the list for her, because she could not imagine faking another conversation that night, when the attention moves on to the latest attractive event, she makes her escape to get home and try and figure out just how she would get money to go on attending these parties. On her way out, she bumps into someone, and the other party ends up spilling wine on her only very good dress. Completely overwhelmed by the events of the night, she goes off on the stranger, not knowing his name or title, even if his face feels oddly familiar, and then stomps out in tears.

The next morning, she is visited by the Dowager Viscountess Godsworth, she shares that when she was younger she used to be very close friends with Hilary's mother, and when she noticed Hilary at the Queen's Ball she wanted to share how much she resembled her mother with her. Hilary hosts her for tea, though embarrassed by the state of her rundown lodgings. Lady Godsworth offers to sponsor Hilary for the season, as a gesture towards her late mother but Hilary is stubborn about accepting charity. It seems that the Viscountess is equally unwilling to accept a refusal, so instead she suggests that Hilary provide guidance to her daughter Kari, for a decent fee. She explains that Kari had always been sick since she was a baby and the doctor advised to not let her travel far, so Kari never got a chance to go to finishing school and was very much unprepared to debut next season. Hilary decides that since she would actually be working for the money, and doing something she's good at, she accepts the offer and the following week she arrives at the Godsworth House.

There she is greeted by the eldest son, Tyson, who also happens to be the same man she shouted at a few days ago. Realising it was too late to back out now, she keeps her head down as the Viscountess introduces the two of them, and pretends to meet him for the first time. While he doesn’t call her out on the lie, she notices the smug look on his face when his mother turns away, and figures out that her job won’t be as easy as she assumed. She is introduced to Kari, and the two get along well, years of experience in trying to keep all her friends in line benefits Hilary and she’s able to connect well with the young girl. Her lessons are supervised by the Viscountess but Tyson often crashes them unannounced, poking at her by raising contradictions against everything she says, arguing with her on the more philosophical part of her lessons. Hilary's glad that sweet little Kari is blessed with such a progressive minded brother, but she does not appreciate him butting heads with her and often ends up arguing in support of notions she herself dislikes, always leaving the Godsworth House more huffier and restless than when she arrived.

With the help of Sora, some of Hilary's mothers older dresses are repurposed for her usage and she spends her nights attending parties and events with her friends. She realises that having Kai next to Charlie gives the girls a chance to relax and have fun talking with each other since most people are too nervous to approach them. The few times she does have a conversation with potential suitors, she finds it completely drab in comparison to her arguments with Tyson, she finds herself often hoping to run into him in the evening, outside from his house, where there would be no familial duty or job requirement binding them and they could freely express their true feelings to each other. But to her disappointment, he rarely attends these events, occasionally stopping by to greet important people briefly, spare a dance with his mother and then leaving without even looking in Hilary’s direction.

Meanwhile, the fake courtship is working out well for Charlie, with Kai’s help she’s able to spend her time studying at the palace library under the ruse of spending quality time with her suitor. When her Aunt Nancy (Matt/Yamato’s mom) is visiting the city for a weekend, she overhears a conversation between her parents and her Aunt about an upcoming two week long reprieve at the Stonefield Manor (Ishi (stone) da (field) = Stonefield GEDDIT?). Her mother suggests to Nancy that they should invite Hilary as a potential match for Matt, so Charlie warns her friend beforehand. Hilary makes up a lie about not being able to travel, and instead Charlie has Sora and Mimi tag along with her.

Since a lot of other young boys and girls have joined the party, Mimi being the oldest out of the lot ends up babysitting most of them throughout the two weeks. She can’t complain to Charlie because it took a lot of convincing on her friend’s behalf to let her parents to allow her to travel so she suffers in silence, until she runs into Matt. Although Matt had visited his cousin Charlie in the city often, he never met her friends in person despite hearing about them, so he doesn’t recognise who Mimi is. Seeing this is an opportunity, Mimi lies about her age to get away from all the boring kids and befriends Matt during her stay at his manor. The two are fans of the same composer so they quickly connect over music, spending a lot of their time hiding inside the manor and playing the piano together.

Charlie and Sora are not so lucky in escaping what is required of them at such an event. But since Kai agreed to join her for the reprieve, Charlie loudly declares that Sora will be their chaperone and the three are able to get out of most activities planned by the parents using this strategy. Because they also spend a lot of time avoiding the main areas of the Stonefield manor, they coincidentally never run into Matt and Mimi hanging out together.

When the hunt is planned, Tai shows up to invite Kai to join and meets Sora for the first time. Sora expresses her wish to join the hunt as well, but Tai just laughs it off saying that with Kai joining they’d have enough men as was the custom. Kai, who has been slightly confused about his feelings towards Charlie recently, thinks that if he helps out Sora, Charlie would surely think highly of him. So he pretends to be a little sick, urging Tai to let Sora join the hunt in his place. Tai finds it hard to argue with him, considering the hierarchy, asking Sora to do some target practice and if she performs well, the hunting party would consider letting her join.

Sora, the daughter of a military man who raised her like a son, obviously outshines everyone at the practice and is allowed to accompany the men for the activity. Tai is awestruck and captivated, and after spending time with her that day, he’s obsessed with making her fall for him. Sora is very flattered but she also knows that her mother would turn up her nose at the idea of her marrying the second son so to say. She’s also afraid that marrying into nobility would only lead to more restrictions and duties, stopping her from pursuing her dream of having her own boutique. She tries to avoid all of Tai’s advances, keeping things friendly between them as much as possible, but he’s persistent with his approach throughout.

When everyone is in the country side enjoying the fresh air, Hilary still continues giving lessons to Kari at the Godsworth House. Happy that her schedule is not running as tight with no evening parties happening for the time being. Since the Viscountess accompanied Tai to the reprieve as well, Tyson is stuck supervising the lessons as the ‘head of the household’ and sweet but not so innocent Kari is very happy with this situation. She was quick to catch on to the tension between her tutor and her brother so she spends a lot of time coming up with ways to make them end up in embarrassing situations with each other. When the two weeks are almost coming to an end, Kari insists that the only way for her to know if she’s good with the piano would be to see if people enjoying dancing to her music. Tyson, unable to turn down a request by his little sister, and Hilary, bound by her duty as a tutor, give in to her demand and end up dancing together for the first time, which ignites a lot of feelings in both of them.

The party at the countryside begins to wrap up and Mimi prepares to tell Matt the truth about her not being out in the society, but that’s exactly when he shares that he has decided to join Charlie in the city for the rest of the season. Their conversation is interrupted and Mimi never gets the chance to tell him the truth. Matt ends up in the city later and attends one of the balls where he’s surprised to find Mimi missing. That’s when Charlie tells him about Mimi still being young, which shocks him. Since he’s hurting and angry over the lie, he goes to Mimi’s house and tells her parents about how she lied while she was away, carefully omitting the part that he was the man she spent so much unsupervised time with. Mimi’s parents are angry of course, and they forbid her from leaving the house for the rest of the season.

After a few days when Matt has calmed down, he regrets his actions but when he goes back to Mimi’s house, he’s not allowed to see her. Mimi is also overtaken by the guilt she feels over lying to Matt so shamelessly, and she ends up writing an apology letter where she pours her heart about feeling left out and just wanting to enjoy this period of her life like her friends were. At the end she requests that if he decides to forgive her, she would be happy to show him around the city next season when she is officially out. Charlie is tasked with delivering the letter to Matt, but is unable to hand it over to him directly. Not thinking too much of it, she hands it to her Aunty Nancy instead, who is aware of the situation.

Nancy opens the letter and reads it before Matt comes home. She knows that if Matt read the letter he would shut himself off in the country again for another year, spoiling her plans to get him married, before next season. So she ends up destroying the letter, and eventually the two head back to their manor to receive another set of guests she has invited, that includes an eligible woman she hopes to set Matt up with. Mimi on the other hand thinks that Matt was too arrogant to accept her apology, and though she is heartbroken, she decides to move on, setting her sights on preparing herself to debut as the Queen’s favourite next year so she could pick anyone she wanted as her husband.

So this is all I have for now. I have to think about how to tie all the loose ends.

Tai has to win Sora’s parents over and make her see that a life with him would award her more freedom than she could ever dream of. Tyson and Hilary have to put their stubbornness and their obsession with their duties aside to really talk to each other and understand why they are always so drawn to one another. Kai and Charlie need to figure out if their fake courtship is really as easy and fake as they thought it would be, or if the element of pretence is wearing off and real feelings are starting to seep in. Matt and Mimi need to come face to face next season, and see how much they have changed over the time they’ve spent apart.

What is the fic you wrote with the angstiest ending? I don't usually write angst tbh, but Absent Goodbye (AtLA) is about a character death so there's that.

What's the fic you wrote with the happiest ending? The first one that comes to mind is Confession x Revelation x Satisfaction because that one actually has an ending hahaha

Do you get hate on fics? Nah. I somehow manage to join fandoms way late, after any and all ship wars have died, or just at the right time when they are starting to get popular and people just want more content.

Do you write smut? Yup. Though I actually find explicit content a lot harder to write than fluff. Doesn't mean I wont try.

Craziest crossover: Gosh. Have I ever written a crossover fic? I don't think so. I think all the crossover stuff I've done has been strictly roleplay.

What's a WIP you want to finish but doubt you ever will? I have a really long Jet/Zuko High School AU fic that I doubt I will ever pick up again. I was so into it and had so many ideas for that fic when I was still rping in the AtLA fandom, but I've moved on for the most part and I'm not sure I could remember now what the end goal was for that fic or all the things I wanted to include. Which is sad but... it happens.

What are your writing strengths? I have been told that my character dialogue is very good, and I'm a really strong character-driven writer in general I think.

What are your writing weaknesses? Plot. Lol. Coming up with plot ideas is really difficult for me sometimes. And then when I do come up with an idea, they always seem to be novel length monstrosities. Writing one-shots, or anything I can actually finish within a week or so is just so fucking hard for me for some reason.

Thoughts on dialogue in another language? I'm always tempted to do this, but it does feel awkward at times, and as someone who is only fluent in English, I'm always afraid of getting things wrong.

First fandom you wrote in? The first fandom I wrote in was YYH, but that’s not the first fandom I published fic for. I kept a lot of my writing private for many years.

Favorite fic you’ve written? Oh lord. This is such a hard question. If we're talking fics that I wrote myself as a single author, I would have to say I'm really proud of Confession x Revelation x Satisfaction (HxH), Breathing Fire (YYH), and Shower, Interrupted (DRRR). But I am also completely obsessed with the long-running rps I have right now with people, and some of those get published on Ao3 as well.

Se sentía frustrado por todo lo que le estaba pasando, no lo podía creer.

El pensó que tenía una familia aunque con diferencias de opiniones era unida, la realidad lo golpeó tan cruel que incluso ahora se siente culpable por no poder hacer nada y lo peor esque se va a separar de su pequeño hermano.

El le prometió que siempre lo cuidaría y protegería pero ahora esa promesa ya no existe.

Quería llorar, pero el era fuerte y no mostraría su debilidad, tenía que ser fuerte por su hermano pequeño, entonces se agarro el pecho con fuerza intentando reprimir todas las emociones que sentía.

Quería llorar de frustración y fue ahi que sintió sintió unos brazos delgados y cálidos que lo hizo calmarce.

Currently Reading: Spirit Gate by Kate Elliott. I love Kate Elliott! Her Crown of Stars series was SO SO SO good! It's massive, full of unique worldbuilding, and interesting fantasy races & cultures. This new one (it's actually pretty old, but I haven't read it yet) is shaping up to be just as interesting! Reeves (people) get harnessed into GIANT EAGLES and scout around the country trying to help everyone and enforce justice and law. And that's the tip of the iceberg. Less than 44 pages in and I was HOOKED.

Currently Watching: Re-watching Rizzoli & Isles! I love this show, I've watched it so many times! I like to also play it in the background while working on something else.

Currently Eating: I just finished eating some microwaveable burritos? 😅 I make them true cuisine by adding extra cheese, sour cream, and CholulaTM hot sauce~

Currently Craving: hmmmm... Chinese food. But, like, crappy American Chinese food. I just moved back home after years abroad, so every few days, my mom and I indulge in one of my cravings lol. I'm sure in a few weeks/months, I'll be craving all the real Chinese dishes I used to eat (or that Japanese curry place I used to eat at all the time!)

A set of stories, partially only loosely connected by the appearance of my OC the, you guessed, radiologist.

Wandering

Imagine being in love with Chuck Hansen, then witnessing Operation Pitfall, and then you somehow have to move on with your life. Inspiried by a story from asaucecoveredsomething (ao3).

Defiance

A young Belgian radiologist starts working at the Hong Kong Shatterdome and she immediately clashes with Chuck Hansen. First, she snubs him with a remark about Kaijus and then she even stares one down. There hardly seems hope for their relationship, not even in the wake of Operation Pitfall.

Agathism

Annabelle and Chuck slowly improve their friendship but then the NSA interferes.

Recess

The gang goes on their much needed vacation and Raleigh notices that he's definitely NOT made for Australian weather conditions.

It's the festive season and even the post-war Shatterdome isn't immune against the merry mood that means. Including baking shenaningans, family reunions and serene sleepovers.

My contribution to Koumi Week

I’m suuuuuper late to Koumi Week, but here is my contribution. I chose the first prompt - First Date. Hope you enjoy it!

-   So, how was it?? – Sora asked excitedly – I’ve been dying to hear it since I saw your text last night.

Facing her from the other side of her futon was a very happy Mimi Tachikawa.

-   I’m sorry, I might have misled you, Sora-san – Mimi said smiling happily.

-   What do you mean? Look at the smile on your face!

-   Well~~

-   Come on, come on! – Sora said, clapping her hands - Spill it already!

-   We went to a fancy caffe and had tea with sweets.

-   And…?

-   Nothing. That’s all there is!

-   Mimi-chan~

Mimi clasped her hands together – I know, it was really simple, but I was really happy!

-   It’s true you’ve been trying to go out with him for weeks now, but… You worked so hard, you deserved a better first date! – Sora crossed her arms in annoyance.

-   It’s okay! I know it’s not the most romantic date ever, but I’m happy with it. I think it only happened because I wore him out during the past weeks, though – she giggled.

-   Did he say anything to you since?

-   No, not yet. I’ll see him on class next Monday.

-   Are you nervous? – Sora asked expectantly.

-   Not much…

-   It’ll be okay! – Sora smiled, crawling next to her friend to hold her hand – things will go smoothly… now that you two had your first date!

 -   What do you mean, first date?!

 A very flustered red-haired boy jumped from his seat at his office, causing his brunette friend to step back in confusion.

-   What do you mean, “what do you mean” ...? – his friend tried to make some sense of things.

-   Taichi-san! – the red-haired boy yelled impatiently.

-   Koushiro! – he retorted.

-   This is serious. If Mimi-san hears you saying those kind of things...

-   Mimi told Sora you two went on a date yesterday afternoon – he casually stated.

-   W-What?!

-   Didn’t you?

-   We didn’t! Are you playing with me? I got a lot to do, I can’t deal with you right now, Taichi-san – Koushiro sat down at his desk again.

Taichi let himself fall on the couches nearby and stared at his friend in confusion.

-   What really happened, then?

-   Mimi-san came here every day for the past two weeks – Koushiro told him with a sigh.

-   To your office? Why?

-   I don’t know. She’d spend every afternoon there - Koushiro pointed at Taichi’s spot on the couch - where you are now seated, doing homework and studying, while I was here on my desk.

-   Did you two speak at all?

-   Occasionally she’d ask for my notes on some subject.

-   That’s all? – Taichi grinned in amusement. Imagining his two friends interacting was always somewhat fun to him.

-   Eventually I would ask her if she didn’t want to go home.

-   You’d ask her that?? Koushiro!

-   I was worried she had some problem and didn’t want to go home. But she’d always smile and say no.

-   Wasn’t she as lively as always?

-   Yeah, that’s what confused me the most. How could she be so joyful while spending her afternoons locked in here?

-   Aww, Koushiro. You can’t be that dense! – Taichi laughed heartily.

-   What do you mean? – Koushiro asked.

-   Nevermind that! Then, how did you two ended up going out?

-   Yesterday she had a gloomy aura around her, I was really distressed by it! I couldn’t concentrate at all. She spent half of the afternoon sighing, staring blankly at her notebooks, and throwing occasional glances at me. So, I asked her if she wanted to go out to eat something sweet.

-   Why something sweet?

-   I looked online and girls apparently like to eat sweets when they’re feeling down.

-   Really?

-   Yeah.

-   Nice to know... – Taichi made a mental note to always carry Hikari’s favourite candy with him from that point on - Then what?

-   That’s pretty much it. We went to a caffe and had tea and sweets. Suddenly, she was being Mimi-san again – Koushiro smiled at the recollection.

-   Well. Something must have happened there for her to consider it as a date.

-   I-I don’t know about that. She behaved normally and I… Uh… It was an ordinary day.

-   Excepting for the fact that you two were out alone.

-   That has happened before – Koushiro retorted annoyed.

-   If you say so - Taichi grinned.

-   What do you think I should do now?

-   If Mimi really considers it as a date and you don’t… You should definitely run.

-   I’m serious, Taichi-san!

-   Fine! Would it kill you to consider it a date as well?

-   T-That’s….! – Koushiro blushed – That’s not- I can’t! I haven’t asked her out yet!

-   Yet? – Taichi was trying his best not to laugh at his friend’s resolve.

-   I mean… It didn’t really happen, right? The way it should be. That’s why… I can’t consider it valid.

-   Then, you either run from her or you ask her out quickly.

-   She’ll definitely kill me, won’t she?

-   Yep.

The weekend passed and it was school day again. While Mimi was excited to meet Koushiro, he dreaded that moment. However, trying to escape it was hopeless as they were classmates, and soon enough Mimi was jumping right in front of Koushiro in the middle of the schoolyard.

-   Hey, Koushiro-kun~ - she waved her hand - You’re early today!

-   Hello, Mimi-san… - he tried to act normal, but somehow his normal was never enough for Mimi.

-   You’re not happy to see me? – she pouted.

-   I have a feeling you’re always asking me that.

-   That’s because you always seem annoyed when meeting me. Even though you were so nice last Friday~

-   Ahm… That’s… Mimi-san… - Koushiro blushed and tried to articulate his thoughts in a coherent form of speech – We…

-   Can we go again?

-   Huh?

-   To the caffe.

-   Ahh. Yes. Should I talk to Taichi-san and the others?

-   Goukon? – Mimi asked puzzled.

-   N-No! That’s not it – Koushiro started moving in the direction of the school building, he thought that the sooner he found himself surrounded by people the better. And that alone spoke volumes about how uncomfortable he was feeling - I just thought it would be more fun if there were more people around this time.

A hand suddenly grabbed his shirt and Koushiro met Mimi’s piercing honey-coloured eyes. ‘She has such beautiful eyes’ he allowed himself to digress for a moment.

-   You mean you didn’t have fun with me?

Reality suddenly hit him.

-   I didn’t say that!

-   Then what are you trying to say? Say it at once!

Koushiro inhaled deeply, preparing himself for what was to come out of his mouth the next moment, and Mimi’s possible, no, probable, outburst.

-   I had fun last time, of course! But, since it wasn’t a date and we had fun I thought…

Mimi received his words as a death penalty. She slowly let go of Koushiro’s shirt.

-   I thought we could make a meeting with more people this time… - being unable to properly convey his feelings he quickly adverted Mimi’s gaze – That would be nice, right?

He giggled nervously.

-   You…

-   Mimi-san – Koushiro immediately regretted his words.

-   It’s okay. I thought-... – she shook her head and took a deep breath – I’m sorry, it’s my fault. Shall we go to the classroom?

-   What about the meeting at the caffe…?

She turned her back to Koushiro and followed the path leading inside. He stood there baffled for a moment before making his way to class.

The next few days Mimi made so few conversations with Koushiro that he felt his ears itching due to the lack of laughs. Mimi had also stopped going to his office. The afternoons there were boring, and the silence he once cherished was now negatively affecting his work productivity. He decided it was time to take the first step and make truce with Mimi. However, talking to her at school was nearly impossible, as she was always with someone he didn’t know very well. So, one afternoon, he decided to wait for her after classes had ended.

-   Mimi-san! Here! – he waved at her at the school gate.

-   Koushiro-kun – she walked to meet him - What’s the matter?

-   D-Do you want to go home together? – Koushiro asked while looking away.

-   Are you going home already?

-   Well, to the office actually.

-   I don’t think so…

-   Please, come – he murmured – It’s been quiet without you.

Mimi blushed a little and conceded – Just for some time then.

They walked together in comfortable silence. When they arrived at the office, Mimi rushed to the improvised kitchen facilities to make some tea, and Koushiro grabbed some chocolates from the cupboard. He joined Mimi on the couches and they both started working on their homework. Mimi was humming something that he recognized as an anime song.

-   Mimi-san’s cheerful today, I’m glad. – he blurted out loud.

Mimi stopped humming and stared at him for a few seconds.

-   You know… - she started – I have to apologize to you, Koushiro-kun.

-   Why is that?

-   I’ve been acting selfishly again.

Koushiro put his pen down and stared attentively at Mimi.

-   When you invited me for tea I was really excited. But the funny part is that I was also feeling down because of you.

-   W-What did I do then?

-   Nothing. That’s exactly it. I was expecting you to… - she paused for a second and looked at him from the side –  Ask me out...

-   EH??

-   Sorry if I was being selfish – she continued - I also wasn’t sincere with you from the beginning, imposing my presence here every day for selfish reasons…

‘Is this… Some sort of confession?’

-   So, every expectation I might have had it’s really my own fault. I’m sorry, Koushiro-kun – she smiled fondly at him and started thumbing through her notebook.

-   That’s not right.

-   Hm?

-   You shouldn’t apologize for that. Or, rather than that, I should also apologize for my lack of touch.

-   What do you mean? – she giggled – I’m kind of used to that already~

-   No, no – he made a sign with his hand asking her not to interrupt him - I think this all escalated so much because I also wasn’t being sincere from the beginning. I didn’t convey my feelings properly. So-

-   Why? – she interrupted anyway.

Koushiro sighed. This was even more difficult than he thought it would be.

-   I stand by what I said before, I invited you to have tea as a friend. I wanted to cheer you up that day. That’s why I don’t consider it as a date…

-   Do I really have to go through this again? – Mimi murmured upset.

-   For it to be a date I’d have to properly ask you out, I wouldn’t do it half-heartily – he stated as someone states the rules of a new game they’ve invented - I’d also need to be 100% sure of it.

-   And you’re not, I get it.

-   I wasn’t, until you put your feelings out in the open two minutes ago.

-   I didn’t…! – Mimi blushed deeply.

-   I’m sorry you had to do it first. Please know that I fully reciprocate those feelings – said an even more flustered Koushiro, who was trying to avoid eye contact at all costs but didn’t manage to hide his smile.

Both of them paused to let those last words sink in. It was Mimi who broke the silence.

-   What are you saying? That’s too formal! - she laughed while hiding her face in embarrassment - That’s no way of telling a girl you like her, baka~!

-   I’m really bad at this.

-   Japanese society has too many formal norms and costumes to follow. If you like me you should just ask me out, there’s no need for a confession.

-   Should I remind you who confessed first…? – Koushiro retorted.

-   I wasn’t trying to! I didn’t think those kinds of things were really necessary. Although I’m no example since I passively waited for the guy to do the job – Mimi let out an exasperated sigh – I’m sorry about that. Putting the pressure on you.

-   I didn’t really feel pressured. So, it’s okay, Mimi-san.

-   Yeah, you should apologize for that, don’t you think? – Mimi pouted – Geez, I worked so hard!

-   I-I… I guess it worked out in the end?

-   Did it really? Even though you’re 100% sure now, I’m still waiting to hear it from you.

-   Right! Erm… Do you… Erm…

-   Do I also have to do it first~? – she teased him.

-   Please go out with me – Koushiro quickly blurted out.

-   Hm hm – she conceded - Let’s go to the park, Koushiro-kun – she stood up and straightened her skirt.

-   W-Wait! You want to go on a date now? In our uniforms??

-   Let’s call it the rehearsal date of the magical date you’ll prepare for us next weekend.

-   Magical- really? Any more requests?

-   Can I hold your hand?

Koushiro blushed bright red and stretched one arm out for Mimi whilst the other covered his flustered face.

In the end, no matter how much time had passed, neither of them would recall their unofficial date at the cafeteria nor the magical date Koushiro would plan, as their real first date. Instead, they would remember the warmth of each other’s hands during a special walk in the park.

Jyou: Same But I’m glad I wasn’t here for this Seconding Yamato, you’re both ridiculous

The next morning, Mimi stood in her kitchen, eating natto over rice and running a facial roller over her cheeks. She had been out a little late last night with Sora and Miyako, drinking wine and chattering about their weeks into the wee hours, and it was showing on her face. 

Where had she put her collagen powders? She thought to herself as she surveyed the small kitchen in her Aoyama apartment. There were only so many cupboards for her to tuck them away into and yet they were no where to be found. Maybe if she was able to blend them into her coffee, they could perk her up a bit. Or better yet, a green juice - they were special ones she had brought back from her last trip to America. Surely in green juice they would make her glow. 

But she didn’t know where they were and Mimi didn’t like green juice anyway. 

Sighing to herself, she unlocked her phone. Swiping away from the notifications in the Chosen group chat (Takeru and Hikari were asking the group to settle some sort of debate they had stayed up till 4 in the morning arguing about - the old marrieds), she opened up her calendar. She scanned her meetings for the day: 8 in total, 3 on-site, 5 remote. 

Too many, she groaned, and closed the app. 

Opening up TikTok, she swiped through a few videos. A couple of reviews of local cafes, three videos about the latest season of Stranger Things, and a handful of fashion videos. She paused on one, inspecting the blouse the girl was wearing, before favouriting it as a reminder for her to pick it up later.

Then, suddenly, Mimi was met with the sight of her own face, blushing and teary eyed as Taichi knelt down in front of her in the dining room at Narisawa. 

She sat up a little straighter. 

This had been restaurant number eight on their list and overall, it had been a pleasant experience. Mimi had worn a bright pink linen dress she picked up from Reformation in Toronto on a recent buying trip with simple gold hoops. Taichi wore a well tailored black suit and white dress shirt, no tie. He rested his hand on the small of her back when they walked in. 

For over an hour, they laughed and talked together, recounting their days and weeks. The best part about this whole ruse was that they genuinely enjoyed each other’s company; it was easy to pretend you absolutely adored the person across from you romantically when you did adore them platonically. Taichi hammed it up, taking Mimi’s hand and pressing a kiss to her knuckles in between courses, and Mimi answered in kind by reaching over mid-conversation to brush a strand of hair off his forehead. 

The food was delicious and the wine even better and near the end of dinner, Taichi had cleared his throat before getting down on one knee and launching into his (well rehearsed) speech about how much he loved her and how much he couldn’t live without her and could she do the greatest honour of his life by agreeing to marry him?

Mimi’s eyes welled up with tears (she had pinched her thigh hard under the table) before she nodded enthusiastically and said a choked-up ‘yes’. Taichi slipped the ring on her finger, they both rose, and embraced to the sound of both enthusiastic and uncomfortable applause. They kissed each other on the cheek (they were in public, after all), before sitting back down and beaming at each other.

Their server congratulated them and then offered them a bottle of one of their finest wines, on the house. They gratefully accepted. 

From her kitchen counter, Mimi chuckled to herself. The whole thing had been so fun - it had been Taichi who had sent the list to her when bored at work one afternoon and jokingly said, ‘Want to pretend to agree to marry me for free dessert?’ But it had been MImi who answered, seriously, ‘Um, heck yes.’

Together they devised a plan to work their way through the entire crowd sourced list. They would go to one restaurant a month and they would make up a new backstory for how they met, how long they had been together, and other various details for each restaurant, just in case. They took a quick trip to Liquem in Hanakawado and selected a sparkly, slightly gaudy ring for under ¥3,000. 

From there on, it was showtime. 

Looking at the view count on the video, Mimi’s eyes widened. Since Daisuke had sent it the day before, the video had now amassed over 4 million views and over 10 thousand comments. 

“Oh my god,” Mimi mumbled, opening up the comments section and scanning them. 

“Holy shit the way he looks at her, I’m —”

“Her face!! She looks so in love!!”

“If my finance doesn’t look at me like that then I don’t want it!”

“Ew, people like this? It’s so public. No thanks.”

“Her dressssss? Mommy? Sorry. Mommy?”

“Crying in single over here.”

“Who gets engaged at NARISAWA are you SERIOUS? I would be mortified.”

“He’s so hot.”

Flustered, Mimi closed the comments and focused on the video. On screen, she watched as her hands flew to her face as Taichi looked up at her, nervously, beaming, a Harry Styles song playing over them. The Mimi on screen nodded excitedly and the face of the Taichi on screen split into a grin. Mimi suddenly felt like she had to look away. 

They really did look happy. 

Before she had a moment to think about it further, her phone began to buzz in her hand. A text from her parents.

the izuruki coffee shop au no one asked for

anyways this is my contribution to the digimon otp week – the incredibly self indulgent izuruki (izumi orimoto/ruki nonaka) coffee shop au no one asked for, particularly bc im probably the only person who ships this??? more under the cut

first of all its in bullet points bc i cant write for shit how ironic

izumi is the cute but also one of the youngest baristas that works in a coffee shop that is PRETTY MUCH a hipster’s wet dream. 

she’s also hella gay, seventeen, and very much single.

let me tell u more about this coffee shop bc @varichina​ gave me a great idea. the rest of the staff consists of wallace, takeru, yamato, toma, and probably kiriha even if i dont rly know much about him. i think im gonna add juri and hikari to the staff too just to keep things under control. 

naturally u guys see where this is going right. this coffee shop is a living shitpost. but its popular bc its mostly run by blondes.

also in this au takeru and hikari are dating?? hikari’s the owner/manager of the place and takeru is her boyfriend that works there too. they are Adults.

i get the feeling though that toma would be the one making the pastries in the back. he only talks to the regulars who sit in the back 

anyways ruki, who’s eighteen and just moved to the neighborhood and doesn’t really know places yet, until one day on reading week, she finds a coffee shop that’s perfct for writing all three essays she has due the next week. 

so the first time she goes is a sunday and is immediately taken aback by how by izumi’s beautiful smile, hair, eyes, height, everything. 

so ruki keeps coming back on weekdays and befriends the entire barista staff (takeru and wallace get on her nerves with bad jokes and fuckboy-but-not-rly-a-fuckboy attitudes, but she’s thankful for hikari, who scolds them) 

but she never sees izumi when she goes and shes a bit heartbroken because who was that beautiful girl???? she doesnt want to ask bc she doesnt want to embarrass herself

but then one day when she goes on a saturday morning she’s taken aback because??? there she is!!!! the beautiful barista from the other day!!!! holy shit ruki wasn’t even aware of how thirsty she is until izumi smiles when she sees her and says something like “its you again! from that one time! what can i get you?” 

and ruki is dying on the inside because oh my god she remembers me

ruki gets her usual (which is a cortado and a lemon bar) and of COURSE introduces herself to izumi, so now they know each other’s names o yeah wiggles eyebrows

ruki keeps coming back especifically in the weekends to see the apple of her eye. 

also note!!: ruki becomes a regular there and all the other baristas know her and her order. 

izumi tho is such a ray of sunshine because she actually loves her job. she’s always smiling and asking the costumers or AT LEAST the other regulars about how they’re doing and saying that she’s glad to see them. 

but whenever ruki comes over she immediately goes “i’m so happy to see you!” or if ruki speaks first and asks her how she’s doing, izumi will say something like “im so much better now that you’re here.” 

and sometimes they start talking on the counter and have nice and sweet conversations before the manager (probably hikari tbh) reminds izumi that she has to continue taking orders. 

hikari probably also winks at them because she knOWS that something is going on.

or when izumi is making coffees they usually have nice small talk. 

or when izumi’s working but there aren’t a lot of costumers, ruki will seat at the bar and talk with izumi for hours. takeru sometimes joins the conversation and teases them.

there are days in which ruki goes there specifically to do work, even if she really wants to talk to izumi, but she swears she hears wallace say “izumi, do you need a cup of water?” (((listen if u didnt get this, the joke is that wallace caught izumi staring at ruki and he laughed and he told her to drink some water to quench her fucking thirst)

ON A FATEFUL DAY OF MAY izumi mentions that a few days ago was her birthday and ruki’s surprised because she didn’t know this. 

however what she thinks about immediately is that izumi is a taurus. so she brings it up because tauruses are all amazing people and she thinks she likes izumi a little bit way more.

izumi confirms it but she asks why that’s relevant and ruki tells her that she’s always found tauruses to be incredible people and that she’s always seemed to get along with them. 

and listen here, izumi looks at her straight in the eye, smile, and tells her that maybe they were meant to be

this immediately fries ruki’s brain and she starts stuttering and almost spills her coffee and holy shit was she flirting?? was she really gay??? holy shit holy shit.

hopefully takeru and hikari are there to save her. kind of. not really. takeru says something like “oh? soulmates? are you guys going out then?”

hikari slaps him playfully and tells him not to intrude, and that they probably have, then he apologizes for him. 

but this actually helps because izumi ends up writing her number with a heart besides it on ruki’s to-go cup. 

ruki notices after she’s home, when she’s about to throw away the cup holy shit that was a close one. she blushed SO HARD because it must be izumi’s number. 

so she texts her immediately that night but she dOESNT KNOW HOW TO GO ABOUT IT BECAUSE SHE’S SO NEW TO DATING???? but somehow she ends up asking izumi out on a date. 

ruki goes back to the coffee shop a few days later (when izumi’s not working) and everyone straight up congratulates her for asking izumi out.

then they go out and start dating thaT’S IT????
