Conceptual Dieselpunk/Steampunk sketches of an airplane, soldiers and weapons, some of which are inspired by the films of Hayao Miyazaki/Studio Ghibli, from top to bottom: A fighter plane designed after the Aero-Kayaks/Flying Kayaks of Howl’s Moving Castle, one of which is strafing a World War ll British AA gun company, Colonel Muska’s infantry from Castle in the Sky, and soldiers of an alternate history/universe German Empire, including an armored elite infantryman of the country’s army

I'm going crazy trying to figure out what aesthetic the scholomance series is, because it is very much NOT the dark academia that pops up at the top when I search "a deadly education aesthetic" it is very much concrete walls and very prison like (not me projecting my own boarding school experience ) but also punk. I just never knew there was so many sub divisions for the punk aesthetic and now looking up all the different reference photos to figure it out.
at the moment dieselpunk is the closest thing I can find that matches with what I picture in my mind but it's only cityscapes so not all of it
edit : I've just looked up prison aesthetic and I'm pretty sure I've found it(as well as experienced flashbacks from my own High school dorm) and so the scholomance is prison aesthetic with a little bit of steam/diesel punk sprinkled in for the whole "revolving floors"
edit 2: I can't seem to reply to your comment so I'm gonna post it here
I've read the trilogy multiple times and I have considered if the scholomance had academia vibes from being built in the Edwardian era but after looking at the art for El and Chloe's rooms and the diagram for the scholomance and London enclave I feel like it would be wasteful to use the mana for making the scholomance look grand when the structure of it being 99% in the void itself is what sold the idea to the other European enclaves. and that would really make gym a "in your face" from the Japanese enclave wouldn't it ?
but I do see your point of it not getting the maintenance it requires and I do wonder if the original plan was after a few years of young wizards growing up in a safe environment use that manpower to built onto the existing structure of the scholomance.
also thank you for your comment I usually just ramble on here because I don't have people around me to take about this kind of stuff

Punk Poll 2: The Re-Punkening
Once again, this isn't about which subgenre you think is the "correct" or "Most moral" one or even which one you'd like to live in the most, it's about which subgenre you find the most aesthetically pleasing/narratively interesting.

With testing about to begin, Sally questions the integrity of the teleporter, and suggests starting with a smaller, perhaps inanimate, test subject, in, 'From Here to Nowhere'
Other Timelines Series... Spacetime Sally: Allied Forces, a 1940s WWII dieselpunk sci-fi series (although, this may have been 1930s inspired, found this one tucked away in a folder, so who knows)

Many things in Dungeon Meshi make me go "Ryoko Kui is the funniest woman alive" but obviously today I'm thinking about her decision to reveal that dwarves had/have access to crazy advanced steampunk technology that no one in the party of quasi-medieval fantasy adventurers really remarks on or ever mentions again. Unironically an excellent grasp of genre.
