Diego Hargreeves x Male reader
Short story!
CONTENTS - Fluff only fluffy!!!!
Diego doesn’t like cuddling, he’s never given a reason as to why, and you never pried. However this night was different, it was 1am when he got home, he usually comes home late. You were sleeping in bed when you heard him shuffling around the room. He’s trying to get undressed from his work clothes and he always struggles getting his boots off. He’s trying not to wake you, but he did. You don’t want to let him know that he woke you, so you stay laying in the dark listening to him talk to himself.
“Fuck, I can’t see shit” Diego whispered. You try not laugh.
About 5 minutes later he finally got undressed and slipped into bed. It was quiet and you started drifting back to sleep. However you couldn’t help but notice how close Diego was, he was so warm. It was a nice feeling you don’t often get to feel. Moments later you feel him throw his arm over your waist and bury his face into your back. You feel his calloused hand take yours and he grips it with decent pressure.
Diego mumbles into you, “I love you”. You feel his mouth move on your back. You can also feel a light peck.
“I love you too”, you mumble back. You take his hand and give it a kiss.
You both drift off to sleep, cherishing this little moment knowing that when you wake up, he’ll probably be upside down in the bed.

Dego and his boyfriend in an au where everyone is happy.
“Hey diego? You can alter trajectory right?”
“Of anything?”
“I think?”
“So if I were to throw this donut could you make it fly into your mouth?”
Diego made a face as he listened to his boyfriend's question. Leave it to M/n to ask some of the strangest questions at the most out-of-pocket times. "What?"
"What I said. Could you make a donut fly into your mouth."
"Well...yeah, but why would I-"
"YES! Okay I want to see it." M/n opened the box of donuts and pulled one out. He motioned with the donut like he was going to throw it. "Alright, you ready?"
Diego only let a small laugh escape his mouth and shook his head before opening wide. M/n giggled and tossed the donut. Diego focused and soon the donut went flying into Diego's mouth. "YES!" M/n screamed, he and Diego both throwing their arms into the air. "That's so cool! Okay! Now me! Do me!"
Leave it to M/n to make his abilities fun.

A stitch in the heart
pairing: Diego hargreeves x reader
Summary: After Five’s betrayal you and Diego find unexpected comfort in each other.
Warning(s): making out, insults, humour
Your fingers trace the edge of the old, worn-out armchair, a painful reminder of all the moments you thought you once shared with him. A hollow feeling settles in your chest, and you can’t decide what hurts more—the betrayal or the fact that you actually hadn’t seen it coming.
The doorbell rings sharply, startling you from your thoughts. You hesitate before opening it, your heart sinking as you see Diego standing there. He had come straight from the Umbrella Academy’s chaotic mess, having heard about the situation from Klaus, who had filled him in on the details. Diego’s dark eyes are filled with frustration and concern as he steps into the apartment.
“I didn’t know he was that stupid,” Diego says, his voice rough with a mix of irritation and empathy. His short brown hair is slightly tousled, and his mustache gives him a rugged, determined look.
You scoff, biting back the tears that threaten to spill. “Neither did I. But hey, at least I’m not the one who’ll be dodging flying knives for a while.”
Diego’s jaw clenches, the muscles working under his skin as he processes your pain. He had always been the protector, the one to throw himself into danger without a second thought, but this was different. He couldn’t punch Five without making things worse—without hurting you even more.
“He’s an idiot,” Diego mutters, stepping closer. His presence is like a comforting weight, a reminder that not everyone in this messed-up world would abandon you. “And if he wasn’t, I’d be happy to throw him off a building for you.”
You look up at him, trying to find solace in his words, but the wound was too fresh, too deep. “You’re way too good at the ‘throwing people off buildings’ thing, Diego. I’d hate to see what you could do if you really put your mind to it.”
Diego’s jaw twitches into a reluctant smile. “Trust me, I’ve got a lot of practice. But this isn’t about me or Five or Lila. This is about you.”
“You mean it’s not about making sure Five ends up face-first in the dirt?” you ask, a hint of sarcasm in your voice.
He shakes his head, his expression serious again. “Look, I know you’re hurting. And I’m not saying Five isn’t a jerk—he is. But you don’t deserve to be dragged down by his mistakes.”
A heavy silence sits between you, filled with unspoken words and the shared history that ties you both to the people who had hurt you. Diego has his own scars, the ones Lila had left on his heart. He knew betrayal, maybe as well as you did.
“Lila…” you began, but Diego cuts you off.
“She’s not worth it,” he says sharply, his tone brooking no argument. “And neither is he.”
His words are a balm, a gentle reminder that you aren’t alone in your pain. You take a deep breath, feeling the weight of the day begin to lift, if only slightly.
Diego’s hand finally finds its way to your shoulder, a tentative touch that sends a shiver down your spine. His fingers, rough but warm, rest gently on your skin. “You don’t have to go through this alone, you know.”
You look up at him, really look at him. The scars, the bruises, the lines of worry etched into his features—Diego had always been there, in the background, watching out for you even when you didn’t realize it.
“I’m sorry about Lila,” you whisper, not really sure why you’re apologizing. Maybe because it feels like you should, because your pain is linked to his in a way you hadn’t expected.
Diego shakes his head, his expression softening. “Don’t be. That chapter’s over. Has been for a long time.”
There’s something in his eyes, something that made your heart skip a beat. He’s not lying, he had moved on. But from the way he’s looking at you, you wonder if he had been waiting for you to realize you needed to move on too.
And maybe… maybe with him.
“Diego,” you breathe, the air between you crackling with a sudden tension, a shift that makes your heart race for an entirely different reason.
His fingers tighten on your shoulder, his gaze dropping to your lips for the briefest moment before returning to your eyes. “If you ever want to forget about him,” he says, voice low and intense, “I’m right here.”
The world seemed to narrow down to the space between you, the inches that felt like miles. Your breath hitched, your heart pounding in your chest. This was the Diego you knew so well—hotheaded, stubborn, fiercely loyal Diego. The man who had been by your side through thick and thin, who was willing to pick up the pieces of your heart when they fell apart.
You take a step closer, your hand coming up to rest on his chest, feeling the steady beat of his heart under your palm. His eyes darken, and he leans in, his breath warm against your skin. The tension between you is palpable, like the air before a storm.
Then, as if on cue, he closes the gap between you two.
The kiss is urgent, his lips surprisingly soft as snow.It all feels like a desperate attempt to make something beautiful out of the wreckage of the day.
The kiss deepens, growing more fervent as you both lose yourselves in the heat of the moment. Diego’s hands roam to your back, pulling you impossibly closer, his embrace enveloping you completely. His lips move with a new, careful intensity, exploring your mouth with a touch of tenderness and need.
After a few moments, Diego pulls back slightly, his forehead resting against yours. His eyes sparkle with a playful glint, and he gives a light-hearted chuckle. “You know,” he smirks “Before Lila came along and turned everything upside down, I actually had a crush on you.”
You look at him, surprised and amused. “Seriously? You had a crush on me?”
Diego nods, grinning. “Yep, and I guess I was so busy trying to play the tough guy that I didn’t realize honesty might’ve worked out better. But hey, Five and Lila didn’t exactly set the bar high, did they?”
You laugh, shaking your head. “True, true. It’s not like they made the most convincing case for keeping things simple.”
Diego chuckles, pulling you closer again. “Exactly. And honestly, if I’m better at anything, it’s being upfront about my feelings.”
You smile, feeling the warmth of his words and the comfort of his embrace. “I guess that’s something I can definitely appreciate.”
Diego leans in for another kiss, his lips brushing against yours with renewed fervor and for the first time in a while, the future feels like something worth fighting for.

Words Hold Power
An “The Umbrella Academy” fanfiction
Five x Reader
(Male)
Author's Note: Welcome to my The Umbrella Academy fanfiction! I'm so excited to share this story with you all! TUA is my favorite Netflix show! I'm very sad to see it's in its final season, but all great shows come to an end! But at least we'll get to rewatch it over and over again, lol.
Speaking of which, please, no spoilers for S4 since I have not watched it yet. I'll let you guys know where I am in S4 in coming posts.
With that said, I just wanted to tell you guys this. There was one hesitation I had with writing this story. Handling Viktor's character. I know about the journey of this character and Elliot Page's journey as well. I know about the transition, and I wanted to tell you how I planned on approaching this.
I did research on this topic and wanted to be sure I was handling it correctly. I researched how I should write transgender characters and their journeys throughout the story.
I also read other TUA fanfictions for research to see how other authors handle it, and like the research, it's a mixed bag. Some use Viktor only, and some show the name change.
After researching, I decided on an approach.
I will follow what the show does and show the transition story Viktor has. I chose this because I believe it's a beautiful journey, and the show does a great job handling the topic.
One last thing, all the main characters (The Hargreeves siblings) are aged up a little.
With all that said, I hope you enjoy the first chapter! ♥️
~Character Info~
Reader's ability is cursed speech. She can make anyone do what she says with only a few words. It's similar to Allison's, except she doesn't need to say certain words first like her, and her ability is much more powerful. To the point where she has to be extremely careful about what she says.
(As you can tell, this was inspired by the anime character, Toge Inumaki from Jujutsu Kaisen.)
Chapter 1: We Only See Each Other at Weddings and Funerals (Family Reunion)
On the twelfth hour of the first day of October 1985, forty-three women around the world gave birth.
This was unusual only in the fact that none of these women have been pregnant when the day first began.
Sir Reginald Hargreeves, eccentric billionaire and adventurer, resolved to locate and adopt as many of the children as possible.
He got eight of them.
Many years later, the kids grew up and went on with their lives as adults.
There was Number One, aka Luther Hargreeves. Big, strong and was currently on the moon, studying and preparing for whatever his mission was.
There was Number Two, aka Diego Hargreeves. Impulsive, brave and works as a vigilante of sorts.
There was Number Three, aka Allison Hargreeves. Famous actress who was currently on the red carpet in front of paparazzi.
There was Number Four, aka Klaus. A lazy, free-spirited soul who is currently leaving rehab and using the money he got from the rehab to buy drugs. He ended up in the back of an ambulance.
And, there was Number Seven, aka Vanya Hargreeves. She was quiet, timid and was currently leaving the theater after practicing her violin.
However, their lives would change forever with one broadcast.
Their father was now dead.
THE UMBRELLA ACADEMY
☂
Vanya rode a taxi to her childhood home. A place she lived for many years.
The Umbrella Academy.
A tall condo-like building with a black gate.
Vanya approached the building and opened the doors, whose windows were decorated by umbrellas.
The foyer was fancy still. The middle was open with a chandelier hanging above a small round table in the middle. Tall, smooth white beams holding the sides which held the second floor. A staircase that leads to that second floor was behind the small round table.
It was just as Vayna remembered it. Every little detail was still there.
“Hey, Mom.”
Vanya called to the woman in the living room. Said woman sat on the sofa in front of the fireplace which currently had a fire going. She stayed still as she stared into the dancing flames.
“Mom?”
“Vanya?”
A familiar voice turned Vanya’s attention elsewhere.
“You're actually here.”
She turned and saw her sister, Allison coming down the stairs.
“Hey, Allison.”
“Hey sis.”
Allison now stood before her sister. She chuckled and brought the other girl into a hug, which Vanya quietly but graciously returned.
“Ah. What is she doing here?”
A new voice spoke through the quiet foyer.
“You don't belong here. Not after what you did.”
It was Diego.
“You're seriously gonna do this today?” Allison spoke up, her tone telling that she wasn't in the mood for the male's attitude.
“Way to dress for the occasion, by the way.” She added, mocking Diego’s attire as he ascended the stairs. He was still in his “hero” gear; knives and everything.
“At least I'm wearing black.” Diego shot back nonchalantly as he turned left on the stairs, disappearing from the girls’ views.
Vanya, now uncomfortable, spoke up quietly, “You know what? I- Maybe he's right. And I shouldn't-”
“Forget about him.” Allison interrupted her. “I'm glad you're here.” She spoke softly. Vanya’s lips quirked up a little at Allison's words. The sisters shared a moment of silence.
☂
Diego arrived at his late father's room, to see Luther there checking the windows. He leaned against the doorframe.
“I can save you some time. They're all locked. No forced entry, no sign of struggle. Nothing out of the ordinary.”
As he spoke, he walked over to Luther who was also walking towards him.
“Oh, you got big, Luther. What's the secret, huh? Protein shakes? Low carbs?” Diego asked mockingly.
“What do you want?” Luther asked, not wanting to deal with Diego's attitude.
Diego reached into his pocket and pulled out a few folded pieces of paper, handing them to Luther. “The autopsy report.”
After he teasingly tried to pull them away from Luther, the latter brother snatched them out of his hand.
“And you have this, why?” Luther asked.
“Well, that's because I… broke into the coroner's office.” Diego explained as he sat down in an armchair. “And surprise, surprise, Dad's death was… normal. Just a boring, old heart failure.”
“Yeah, so?” Luther looked at Diego.
“So, why are you in here, checking all the windows?”
“Were you the first one on the scene?” Luther asked.
“Pogo found him.” Diego answered.
“Yeah, I talked with Pogo. He said he couldn't find Dad's monocle.”
“And your point being?” Diego asked in a bored tone.
“Can you think of a single time you saw Dad, and he wasn't wearing that monocle? No. Which means someone took it. Which means there's a chance he wasn't alone when he died.”
Diego sat up from the armchair. “There is no mystery here. Nothing to avenge. Nothing to solve, nothing like that. It's just a sad old man who kicked it in a big empty house. Just like he deserved.”
“You should leave.” Lither spoke, not liking Diego's tone with that last sentence he spoke.
“Whatever you say, brother.” Diego said in a mocking tone as he turned to leave. Before he did, he turned back to Luther. “By the way, did you visit (Your Name) yet?”
Luther shook his head. “No. I was about to, actually.”
“You know where he is.” Diego simply said.
☂
Vanya entered the living room, looking around at the interior. She spotted a comic and new articles on their group, The Umbrella Academy. She looked at the bookshelves and pulled out one book in particular.
The title read, “Extra Ordinary My Life as Number Seven”
It was her autobiography book. The one she wrote when she left the academy.
She observed it solemnly, until a voice spoke out.
“Welcome home, Ms. Vanya.”
She turned and saw Pogo, a human sized monkey dressed formally with a cane and glasses.
Vanya walked over to him and hugged him. Pogo hugged back with a hum. “So good to see you.” He noticed the book in her hand. “Ah, yes, your autobiography.”
“Do you know, um…” Vanya paused before continuing. “Did he ever read it?”
Pogo thought for a moment before replying, “Not that I'm aware of.”
Vanya turned her attention to the portrait above the fireplace. It showed a boy, around seventeen in age, sitting with a neutral but sophisticated look on his face.
“How long has it been since Five disappeared?” She asked.
Pogo turned to look at the portrait too. “It's been sixteen years, four months, and fourteen days.” The two looked at each other. “Your father insisted I keep track.”
“And… how long has (Your Name) been in that coma?”
“Sixteen years, four months, and six days.” Pogo replied.
“You wanna know something stupid? I always used to leave the lights on for him. I was scared that he would come back, it would be late, and the house would be dark and he wouldn't be able to find us, so he'd leave again. And he would take (Your Name) with him. So, every night, I'd make a little snack and make sure all the lights were on.”
Pogo nodded. “Oh, I remember your snacks. I'm pretty sure I stepped in half those peanut butter and marshmallow sandwiches, and those (Favorite type of Cookie) cookies.” He sighed a couple times before he spoke again, “Your father always believed that Number Five was still out there somewhere. He also believed that one day (Your Name) would wake up. He never lost hope.”
“And look where that got him.” Vanya said solemnly.
☂
Allison went up to her late father's study, looking around the area. The familiarity of it brought up a memory.
〰️
Reginald Hargreeves was working in his office, as usual, when Grace knocked on the door. She entered before closing the door.
“The children are ready for bed, sir. They wanted to say goodnight.”
She turned and walked a couple of paces and opened the sliding door.
On the other side revealed the eight children, all wearing matching pajamas. Allison was in the center while the others surrounded her. Little (Your Name) stood between her and Five, a black cloth face mask covering his mouth and nose.
The children were all smiling as they waited for their father to acknowledge them. But he was so into his work that he didn't even glance up at them.
Sensing the awkwardness, Grace quickly dismissed the kids. The kids, of course, were disappointed but not surprised. As they left slowly, (Your Name) tugged on Allison's sleeve, silently asking her to come.
“I'll be there in a minute (Your Name).” The girl whispered. (Your Name) tilted his head to the side. Allison spoke again, “Why don't you go hang out with Five for a bit before bed? I know you planned on it.” She gave the masked boy a small smile. (Your Name) felt his cheeks warm up, but he nodded, leaving and quietly walking over to Five. The boy saw him coming and, with a nod of his head, gestured to him to follow him. (Your Name) nodded and started to walk beside him. As he did, he heard Allison,
“He's always busy.”
〰️
“Where's the cash, Dad?”
The sound of a voice diverted Allison's attention and she walked over to her father's desk, hearing clamoring noises. She leaned forward to look to see who was over there.
“Klaus? What are you doing in here?” She asked.
Said boy looked up and gasped at the sight of his sister. “Oh! Allison! Wow, is that you?” He asked as he stood up. He embraced her slowly; Allison slowly returned the hug. “Long time. Too long.” He pulled away. “Hey, I was hoping to see you, actually, because I wanted to get your autograph. Add it to my collection!” He planted his chin onto his hands.
Allison let her brother act because it was how he always behaved when she noticed the white paper bracelet on his left wrist. “Just out of rehab?” She asked.
“No, no. No, no, no, no. No. I'm done with all of that.” Klaus replied with a sigh as he removed the bracelet. “I just came down here to prove to myself that the old man was really gone.” He smiled. “And he is! He's dead. Yeah!” He clapped, making Allison smile a little, shaking her head a bit.
“You know how I know? Because if he were alive, not one of us would be allowed to set foot in this room.” Allison silently agreed with Klaus.
“He was always in here, our whole childhood, plotting his next torment, right?” He said with a chuckle as he sat in the armchair behind the desk, putting his feet on the desk. “Remember how he used to look at us? That scowl?” He pointed to the man's portrait onto the wall behind him. “Thank Christ, he's not our real father, so we couldn't inherit those cold, dead eyes!” He stretched his eyelids to show more of his eyeballs. He fake screams, making Allison chuckle a little as Klaus started to dramatically imitate their late father.
“Get out of his chair.”
Klaus turned his head and saw Luther standing by the doorway. “Oh, wow, Luther! Wow, you really, uh… You really filled out over the years huh?” Klaus said as he stood and flexed his arm muscles.
“Klaus.” Luther warned.
“Save the lecture. I was already leaving. You guys can talk amongst yourselves. I am going to visit (Your Name). Oh! The precious little brother of ours.” He chuckled softly. Before he could leave though, Luther stopped him. “Drop it.”
“Ex-squeeze me?” Klaus said.
“Do it. Now.” Luther ordered.
Klaus pulled his arm away from Luther and went back to the desk and started to empty out his pockets, which held a few of his late father's belongings. “It's just an advance on our inheritance! That's all it is!” Allison chuckled silently at her brother. “No need to get your little panties in a bunch.” With that, Klaus left, closing the door; leaving Luther and Allison alone in the room.
“So, Klaus is still Klaus, in case you are wondering.” Luther started.
“You know, after all these years, I find it strangely comforting.” Allison stated.
“Did you see Diego?” Luther asked.
“With his stupid outfit?” Allison added in amusement.
“Oh, I know. Do you think he wears that thing in the bathroom?” Lauther asked.
“Like in the shower?” Allison asked for confirmation.
“Yeah.” Luther confirmed.
“Yes, absolutely!” Allison laughed.
The two went on to talk about how their lives are going now that they are adults. Luther was the only one to stay while the rest went their separate ways. Their conversation ended talking about Allison's family and her powers.
〰️
A little later, everyone congregated in the living room. The fire was still going in the fireplace as everyone sat in silence.
Luther started talking about doing a memorial service for their late father. Some like Allison were mostly confused by this, or making fun of it like Klaus.
“Is that my skirt?” Allison asked, noticing Klaus wearing a skirt now.
“Oh, yeah this. I found it in your room. It's a little dated, I know, but it's very breathy on the bits.”
Luther stopped Klaus before he could go further and started to talk about their father's death. He had a theory that he didn't die simply of heart failure. He recounted how he was acting suspicious and requested Klaus to try to communicate with him. Klaus was not interested.
“I can't just call Dad into the afterlife and be like, “Dad, could you just stop playing tennis with Hitler for a moment and take a quick call?”
“Since when? That's your thing.” Luther said.
“I'm not in the right… frame of mind.”
“You're high?” Allison asked, not surprised.
“Yeah! Yeah!” Klaus laughed. “I mean, how are you not listening to this nonsense?”
“Well, sober up, this is important.” Luther said.
Klaus only sighed.
When Luther started talking about the missing monocle, Diego concluded that Luther was suspicious of all of them, saying that Luther thought one of them killed their dad. This caused everyone to get upset. Diego insulted Luther's leadership, Klaus got up and jokingly said that he might as well go murder their Mom and (Your Name), unless he was already dead. Vanya left in silence and. Allison left in silence as well. Luther tried to defend himself, but it was too late.
They weren't always like this. When they were kids, they were tight knit.
〰️
“This is Jim Hellerman, reporting live for Channel 2 News outside of the Capital West Bank at Main and Sixth. A group of heavily armed men stormed the bank not three hours ago and took an unknown number of hostages.”
The armed men surveyed the bank as they pointed their guns at the bound up hostages and pushed them behind the counter as they proceeded with the robbery.
Unexpectedly, a girl with curly black hair, in a school uniform and mask, walked casually to one of the robbers.
It was Allison.
“Hey, get back with the others.” The robber ordered the girl.
“I heard a rumor.” Allison spoke.
“What? What did you say?”
Allison leaned forward and used her ability, “I heard a rumor that you shot your friend in the foot.”
The robber pointed his gun at one of his partners and promptly shot him in the foot, knocking him down. The hostages screamed at the sound of the gun.
Suddenly, someone dressed in a boy's school uniform with a mask came crashing down from a window above and landed behind the counter. It was Luther. He punched one robber and threw him out the window with surprising strength.
Then, another kid dressed like Luther came from the other side of the bank. “Guns are for sissies. Real men throw knives.” He threw two long knives at one of the robbers only for them to redirect to another robber and immediately killed him.
There were now only two robbers left in the lobby.
One of them climbed onto the desk and pointed his gun shakily at the three kids. “Get back, you freaks.”
“Hey, be careful up there, buddy.” Diego, the knife throwing kid taunted.
“Get back now!”
“Wouldn't want you to get hurt.” Allison taunted as well.
“Or what?”
A fourth kid appeared seemingly out of nowhere, sitting criss cross on the desk. A taunting smirk on his face. This was Number Five.
The robber shot at Five, but he disappeared and reappeared on the other side. When the robber turned around and tried to shoot him again, he suddenly realized that he was not holding a gun.
“Ooh! That's one badass stapler!” Five taunted before smacking the guy's hand holding the stapler into his head. This knocked the robber over.
All they had to do now was get rid of the robbers in the vault.
Or so they thought.
There was one more.
He loaded his gun and his gun cocked, catching the kids off guard.
“Down you freaks!” He yelled.
Suddenly, running from a hidden place behind a wall, was a fifth kid, dressed like the rest of the boys, as he pulled down his face mask. He directed his attention to the robber.
“Explode!”
The single word echoed loudly through the bank, and just before the guy could turn his gun to the boy, his body suddenly exploded, body parts, guts, and blood spreading out everywhere. The hostages screamed in fear. The boy quickly covered his face again, breathing heavily as he ran to his siblings.
He gestured to all of them. They couldn't see much of his face, but they could tell he was worried by the look in his eyes.
“We're okay. Thanks (Your Name).” Allison said.
(Your Name) hummed, nodding as he walked over to behind the desk with the others, while two more kids dressed like the rest of the boys joined them. Five looked at him. “That was pretty badass. Good work.” He complimented, giving him a smile. (Your Name) felt his cheeks warm up a little, and he tilted his head a bit and closed his eyes. Most people wouldn't be able to tell his expression behind the mask, but Five knew he was smiling at him in thanks.
“Do we really have to do this?” A meek voice asked.
“Come on, Ben. There's more guys in the vault.” Luther told the boy.
Ben sighed as he walked to the vault door. “I didn't sign up for this.”
He entered as the hostages all ran for their lives out of the bank. Inside the vault, the last of the robbers were eyeing slaughtered by Ben's ability. He screeched and roared as his tentacles ripped them apart and threw them against the walls. Blood splattered all over the windows.
Once it was quiet, Ben came out, covered in blood. “Can we go home now?” He asked, his breathing shaky.
It was time to leave.
The seven kids started walking towards the entrance of the bank. (Your Name) pulled out a small vial and turned the cap. He pulled the bottom part of his mask up and put the bottle to his lips. He tilted his head back and started swallowing the liquid. He finished it and placed the empty bottle back in his pocket.
“Are you feeling okay?”
Five's voice made (Your Name) turn to him. He nodded and hummed in thanks. Five offered his arm to him. “Ready?” He asked. The boy nodded again, and he hooked his arm with Five's. Five smiled at him, and they started walking after their siblings.
The seven kids emerged from the back as the news reporters pointed their cameras at the group, and they all clamored to try to talk to them.
Above on the top of a building nearby, stood Reginald Hargreeves, observing the other kids with a mini telescope. An eighth kid, dressed like Allison, stood next to him.
“Why can't I go play with the others?” The girl asked.
“We've been through this before, Number Seven. I'm afraid there's just nothing special about you.” Reginald said as he lowered his telescope.
The girl looked down. “Oh.”
Eventually, Reginald came down to stand with the children.
“Our world is changing. Has changed. There are some among us gifted with abilities far beyond the ordinary. I have adopted seven such children.”
‘You mean eight.’ (Your Name) thought to himself as he looked down temporarily, his arm still linked with Five's.
“I give you the inaugural class of the Umbrella Academy.”
Many news reporters asked many questions.
“What happened to their parents?” One asked.
“They were suitably compensated.” Reginald replied.
“Are you concerned about the welfare of the children?” Another asked.
“Of course. As I am for the fate of the world.” Reginald said.

Everyone was in separate rooms, having their alone time after the little dispute from earlier. Klaus was still in the living room, trying to talk to their late father, but he ended up knocking the vase filled with his ashes over.
Luther was walking through the hallways, reminiscing until he got to his room.
Allison was looking through her belongings until she found a gold heart locket with ‘A+L’ carved onto the front.
Klaus took the vase into the kitchen where he proceeded to take more pills.
Diego laid on the couch in the living room, playing with one of his knives.
Vanya sat on the stairs, a solemn look on her face.
Luther eventually found a familiar record and played it on the record player.
“I Think We're Alone Now” by Tiffany started to play.
Everyone heard the familiar tune all throughout the house and they all started to dance in their respective rooms.
Childhood nostalgia ran through their bodies as they all danced like no one was watching. Even Pogo moved a little to the beat.
But suddenly, thunder rumbled and lightning flashed.
The music stopped as the house reacted to the violent disturbance.
The siblings all ran to the courtyard and saw a giant hole, surrounded by blue lightning.
“What is it?” Vanya asked.
“Don't get too close!” Allison warned.
“Yeah, no shit.” Diego said.
“Looks like some sort of temporal anomaly. Either that or a miniature black hole. One of the two.
“Pretty big difference there, Paul Bunyan.” Diego insulted.
“Out of the way!” Klaus exclaimed as he came out with a fire extinguisher and tried to spray it but it was out of steam. So, he just threw it at the mysterious anomaly only for it to get sucked in.
“What is that gonna do?” Allison asked.
“I don't know. Do you have a better idea?” Klaus asked.
The anomaly got stronger and Luther ushered everyone behind him to protect them. Klaus wanted to run. Luther and Allison held hands.
The electrical crackling intensified and someone emerged from the anomaly, arms out. It disappeared and the person fell out of the sky and landed on the ground. The sky cleared up as the siblings walked towards the person, who stood up. He was dressed in a suit way too big for him.
“Does anyone else see little Number Five, or is that just me?” Klaus asked.
The boy known as Five looked at himself then back at the siblings.
“Shit.”
☂
The six were now in the kitchen. Five was busy making a sandwich while the others watched in shock.
“What's the date? The exact date.” Five asked.
“The 24th.” Vanya replied.
“Of what?”
“March.”
“Good.”
Luther spoke up. “So, are we gonna talk about what just happened?”
Five didn't reply. He just continued with making his sandwich.
Silence fell for a couple seconds until Luther stood up. “It's been seventeen years.”
Five scoffed. “It's been a lot longer than that.” He blinked over to the cabinet.
“I haven't missed that.” Luther muttered.
“Where'd you go?” Diego asked.
“The future. It's shit, by the way.” Five replied as he blinked back to the table.
“Called it.” Klaus said.
“I should've listened to the old man. You know, jumping through space is one thing, jumping through time is a toss of the dice.” Five looked up at the siblings. “Nice dress.” He told Klaus.
“Oh, well, danke!” Klaus said, playing with the article of clothing.
“Wait, how did you get back?” Vanya asked.
“In the end I had to project my consciousness forward into a suspended quantum state version of myself that exists across every possible instance of time.” Five explained.
“That makes no sense.” Diego spoke up.
“Well, it would if you were smarter.” Five sasses.
Diego stood up to confront the boy, but Luther stopped him, holding him back.
“How long were you there?” He asked.
“Forty-one years. Give or take.”
Luther and Diego sat back down. “So what are you saying? That you're fifty-eight?” The former asked.
Five looked at Luther. “No, my consciousness is fifty-eight.” He finished his sandwich. “Apparently, my body is now seventeen again.”
“Wait, how does that even work?” Vanya asked.
“Delores kept saying the equations were off. Eh.” Five took a bite out of his sandwich. “Bet she's laughing now.”
Vanya was confused. “Delores?”
Five ignored her and looked at the newspaper that told him about Reginald Hargreeves’ death. “Guess I missed the funeral.”
“How'd you know about that?” Luther asked.
“What part of the future do you not understand?” Five asked. “Heart failure, huh?”
“Yeah.” “No.” Diego and Luther said together.
Five hummed before clicking his tongue. “Nice to see nothing's changed.” Then, he got a good look at his siblings again. He realized that one was missing. “By the way, where's (Your Name)?”
The other five siblings looked at each other, solemn expressions on their faces now. “Well…” Vanya started. “There isn't an easy way to say this.” Allison said. “He's in a coma.” “He's dead.” Klaus and Diego finished. “Diego!” Allison scolded.
Five looked at his siblings, a subtle look of worry on his face, but on the inside, his heart was beating faster. “What happened?”
“Well…. like I said… this isn't easy to say.” As Allison tried to explain, they suddenly heard soft footsteps approaching the kitchen. They slowly turned their heads and what they saw shook them to the core.
There stood…
(Your Name).
Klaus yelled in surprise.
“Holy shit.” Diego said.
Everyone else looked in surprise.
(Your Name) was alive.

Do you still write for TUA? If so, could you do a Sparrow!Ben x mreader smut? 👀👀
A/N: I haven’t written in years be gentle
Pairings: Sparrow!Ben x Hargreeves!male reader
Warnings: NSFW , top!ben x bottom!reader , arrogance , dirty talk , whatever else might happen
Summaru: After being sent to a new timeline the new Ben didn’t waste any time
He was such a goddamned asshole. From his emo hair cute to his evil smirk training you down, you already couldn’t stand him.
Your Ben was sweet, kind, gentle. This one seemed to be a spoiled brat who could take anything he wanted with simply a smile.
Diego had smacked you upside the head when he caught your gaze lingering far to long, although the dickhead behavior he was inexcusably attractive.
You slowly crept inside the Sparrow Academy, none of the rich prats insight as far as you could tell, your power being heat detection. You stared around the house, looking all too familiar to your own that had been thoroughly destroyed.
“What are you doing here asswipe?” Ben’s voice made your teeth immedialey grind, glaring down the egotistical maniac.
“Here to kick your ass if I gave a damn, but lucky for you I’m just visiting.” Ben scoffed at your comment, glaring you down but it seemed hard for the sweet looking boy to appear threatening.
“Do you always talk out of your ass or are you just feeling quirky?”
“At least I have an ass, bitch boy.” Ben snorted at your comment, obviously you had earned your mouth from Diego, the two of you stirring up the most trouble besides Klaus.
“What do you want?” He asked seriously ruffling his hair as he raised an eyebrow at you.
“I’m not sure,” you muttered your (e/c) eyes flickering to the ground.
“You’re not sure?”
“I just felt like I should come,” you shrugged. Ben stood for a moment in silence, glancing at the bar and wandering over to it.
“A drink?”
“Please.” You followed after him, the man pouring you and himself a glass of scotch as you leaned against the bar.
“What’s with your families’ obsession with me?” Ben rose an eyebrow taking a long sip from his drink as a soft sigh escaped you.
“You look just like him,” you muttered. “Ben was,” you shook your head, “Ben was the best of us. I had been picked up by Reggie at about ten, an old lady wanting her cut of the money brought me to the Umbrella Academy. He thought I could be useful, but really it was all just traumatizing. The others had been used to it, but I had gone from relaxation to army training.” You took a long sip from your drink as well, almost finishing it off. “Ben took care of me, was there for me. He was everything to me.”
Ben, not your Ben, but Ben none the less almost seemed to smile at the story, shaking his head.
“So when you look at me, you think of the boy that meant everything to you?”
You stared at him for a while, finishing the rest of your drink as you gave a slow nod.
“Yeah, of course I do.” Silence filled the giant room, still nodding your head. “Although you have caught my eye in the way he never could, we were just kids. We couldn’t explain how we felt. Seeing you is almost like, like a reminder. Knowing what I felt for him was real.”
Ben stared at you for a long time, all of the asshole personality you had seen seeming to fade away as he looked you up and down with a soft smirk.
“You sound like a genuine guy,” you scoffed at the half ass compliment, nudging him with your shoulder.
“And you seem like a pretty attractive guy if you weren’t such a dickhead.”
“Some guys like a dick,” he stepped closer to you, trapping you against the bar with his hands as a sly smile graced his lips.
“Oh, trust me,” you leaned closer your lips grazing his, “I love dick, but I like a sweetheart.”
“I could be a sweetheart for a night.”
You scoffed at him, nose brushing against his as you met his eyes.
“What makes you say that?” Ben swallowed harshly at the question, ghosting a hand over your cheek as he gave you a soft smile.
“Let’s just say, you’re our Ben in this world,” a soft air of calm fell over you both, “and I loved him how you loved your Ben.”
That seemed to be all the explanation you needed, leaning closer and pressing a soft kiss to his lips. Ben’s hands tangled in your (h/c) hair like they had been there a thousand times, the boy gripping at your clothes like it was his life line.
It was almost familiar, both of you reminiscing on your lost loves, but it was also brand new. Filled with a fire neither of you had explored since the tragic days you had both been through. Ben pulled at your black sweater, nearly ripping the fabric as he pulled you closer, pinning you between him and the bar.
“You siblings-” You gasped, hands tangled in his hair.
“Gone,” he slammed his lips into yours, “I promise they’re gone.”
You took him by the shoulders, pushing him back until you were both falling over the couch, landing on top of the beautiful boy.
“Are you sure?” He gasped for air as you pulled off your sweater, pulling off his top as well, a grin grazing your lips.
“More than sure.”
Ben grabbed you by the neck, thrusting his hips into yours as he pulled you back into a deep kiss, working his tongue into your mouth. His hands fumbled for your belt, you assisting him as you both stripped yourself of your clothes.
It was all too good of a feeling, the man grinning up to you with hooded eyes as his hands explored you in so many different ways. It almost felt like you were meant to be right here, on top of each other with soft smiles.
Ben’s hands squeezed your ass roughly, you soft moans filling the room as you grinded down on him, his heavy breathing following yours.
“Are you sure?” He muttered as he began to enter.
“Please,” you replied, stroking his cheek with a lazy grin.
He shoved himself inside you, keeping a steady pace as you threw your head back in pleasure.
“Ben, please.” It felt like bliss, grinding down on the man as he guided his hips to meet your own.
“Fuck, (Y/N),” a shaky sigh fell from his lips. “Feels so good.”
“Kiss me,” you uttered. The man not hesitating to pull you to his lips as he sped up the pace.
Unwilling moans were falling from your lips as you sloppily kissed the man of your dreams, him hitting all the right spots as you did so.
“Fuck Ben! Fuck, you’re amazing.”
“It’s you,” he shakily replied. “You’re amazing. You feel so good (Y/N)”
“I want you to come in me,” you scratched at his chest. “Please Ben, you’re amazing. You’re so good please, please Ben.”
“I love you,” he muttered as he released inside of you, both of you moaning loudly as you came on his chest.
Both of you ignored the words that had slid past his lips, you more so ignoring the fact that they had almost spilled from your own.
You gasped for breath, sliding off of the Sparrow, knees touching as you gave soft glances to each other.
“Well that was—”
“Amazing,” Ben cut you off, no hint of sarcasm in his tone. “Will I see you again?”
You stared at the handsome man, a soft smile on your face as you leaned in for one more kiss.
“As long as my siblings don’t find out.”

(Post- 6 year timeskip) Reunion with Klaus Hargreeves smut? (Kind of like Luther and Sloane) But after splitting up in the park and everyone went their separate ways, Reader left/moved away to finally try and get their life together because they felt that if they stayed around everybody else without giving themselves the proper time to heal from everything that’s happened (?) it wouldn’t end well.
(The reunion can happen another way if you feel something else fits!)
So, with being so far away for so long, they were surprised to even get an invite to Grace’s party, but they felt it was the right time to go. At the party, Klaus can’t help but feel glad he’s there all over again once he recognizes that familiar laugh over by the ball pit. They catch up and try their hardest to be cordial in public, but they both know they’re filled with enough longing to just *barely* be around everyone else before they’re told to “get a room.”
Reunion | Klaus Hargreeves x gn!reader
Pairings: Klaus Hargreeves x gn!reader (romantic), Diego Hargreeves x gn!reader (platonic), Five Hargreeves x gn!reader (platonic)
Type of fic: Smut, Post-Canon, Fast Burn, Reunion, Light Angst, Tiny Bit of Hurt/Comfort
Warnings: Eating out, teasing, slight begging
Summary: At family reunion at Grace’s party Klaus decides to show you how much he missed you during those past 6 years
PS: Considering you didn’t tell me if reader has female or male body I wrote for female body as that’s a bit easier - the pronouns are gn ofc. I just simply don’t know how to write smut with gn body
—————————
Version 1: Reader with Female Body (GN Pronouns)
Six years. That’s how long it had been since the park, since the family had splintered off in different directions. Six years of distance, reflection, and healing. You had moved away from it all, far from the chaos, the pain, and the memories that threatened to drown you. It wasn’t an easy decision, but you knew if you stayed, you’d never have the chance to rebuild yourself, to find out who you were beyond the legacy of the Hargreeves family.
You didn’t expect to ever return. That was until a familiar, unexpected invite arrived in the mail—a celebration of sorts, hosted by Grace. The invite had caught you off guard, your heart skipping a beat as you traced the edges of the card. It was Grace, after all, and something in you knew it was time to go back, to see if you could finally face the past with the new strength you’d found.
The party was in full swing when you arrived, the energy of the gathering hitting you in a wave. Familiar faces mingled, some older, some new, but all seemed to blend together into a scene that was both nostalgic and surreal.
You kept your distance at first, lingering near the edges of the party, letting the atmosphere wash over you. But it wasn’t long before you heard it—a voice, a voice so unmistakably familiar that it pulled you back into the present with a force that made your heart race.
Klaus.
Your eyes searched the crowd, scanning over the colorful decorations and the mingling guests until you found him, standing near the ball pit, leading a conversation with Ben and a signature careful small smile on his lips. His eyes were roaming the crowd, as if searching for something, or someone, and when they landed on you, time seemed to stand still.
You could see the flash of recognition, the way his eyes lit up as they met yours, and the slight falter in his step as if he couldn’t quite believe you were there.
And then, just like that, the space between you disappeared as Klaus made his way over, his smile growing with every step.
“Look who decided to grace us with their presence,” he teased, though his voice held an underlying warmth that betrayed how much he had missed you.
You smiled, a small laugh escaping your lips. “Couldn’t stay away forever.”
“No, you couldn’t,” he agreed, his gaze softening as he took you in, as if memorizing every detail. “I can’t tell you how glad I am to see you.”
There was so much unsaid in that moment, a shared understanding of all that had happened, and all that had been left unresolved. But there was also something else, something neither of you had quite been able to forget in all these years.
For a while, you both tried to stay cordial, catching up on the small things, laughing at old jokes, and sharing stories of where life had taken you. But the pull was there, undeniable, and it wasn’t long before the tension became palpable.
“Klaus, I…” you began, but the words caught in your throat as he moved closer, his hand gently brushing against yours.
“Do you want to get out of here?” he asked, his voice low, almost hesitant as if he wasn’t sure what your answer would be.
You didn’t even have to think about it. “Yes.”
But before you could disappear together, you heard a voice from across the room—Five’s voice, dry and exasperated. “Jesus, get a room. This is a kid’s party.”
Klaus chuckled, shaking his head as he turned to you with a mischievous grin. “Guess we should take his advice.”
The moment you stepped into Klaus’s room, the door barely closed behind you before his lips were on yours, the years of separation and longing pouring into that first kiss. It was hungry, desperate, and filled with all the emotions neither of you had been able to voice until now.
Klaus’s hands were everywhere, running through your hair, down your back, pulling you closer until there was no space left between you. You could feel the heat radiating off his body, the way his heart was racing against yours, and it only fueled the fire burning inside you.
“God, I missed you,” Klaus breathed against your lips, his voice rough with emotion as he pushed you gently against the wall, his hands sliding under your shirt to feel the warmth of your skin.
You moaned at the contact, your hands slipping under his jacket, pushing it off his shoulders as you worked to get him as close to you as possible. “I missed you too,” you whispered, your breath hitching as his lips found the sensitive spot on your neck, kissing and nipping at the skin until you were trembling beneath him.
Klaus was quick to remove your shirt, his hands working with a practiced ease as he exposed your body to the cool air. He pulled back just enough to look at you, his eyes darkening with desire as he took in the sight before him.
“You’re even more beautiful than I remember,” he said, his voice thick with sincerity as he pressed a kiss to your collarbone, then lower, tracing a path down your chest.
You shivered under his touch, your breath coming in short, ragged gasps as Klaus continued his exploration, his hands and lips worshipping every inch of your body. When he reached your breasts, he took one of your nipples into his mouth, his tongue flicking over it in a way that made you arch against him, a low moan escaping your lips.
“Klaus, please,” you begged, your fingers tangling in his hair as he lavished attention on your breasts, his free hand sliding down to unbutton your pants.
He smirked against your skin, clearly enjoying the way you were reacting to him. “Patience, love,” he murmured, though his own voice was strained with the effort of holding back.
But he didn’t make you wait long. In one swift motion, Klaus had your pants and underwear off, his hands sliding up your thighs as he knelt before you, his eyes locking onto yours as he spread your legs just enough to give him access.
You gasped as his mouth found your center, his tongue teasing your folds before delving into you with a skill that left you breathless. The years of separation melted away as he worked you over, his tongue and fingers moving in perfect harmony, drawing out every ounce of pleasure from your body.
You were a mess of moans and gasps, your hands gripping his shoulders as you fought to stay upright, your legs trembling under the onslaught of sensation. Klaus seemed to sense your struggle, his hands gripping your hips tighter as he brought you closer to the edge, his tongue flicking over your clit in a way that had you seeing stars.
“Klaus, I’m—” you gasped, but the words were lost as your orgasm crashed over you, your body shaking with the intensity of it as Klaus continued to lap at you, drawing out your release until you were left panting and weak-kneed.
He stood slowly, his hands trailing up your body as he pulled you into a kiss, letting you taste yourself on his lips. The kiss was slow, deep, and filled with a tenderness that contrasted with the intensity of what had just happened.
When he finally pulled back, Klaus rested his forehead against yours, his breath warm against your lips as he whispered, “I’m never letting you go again.”
You smiled, your heart swelling with emotion as you wrapped your arms around him, pulling him close. “I’m not going anywhere.”

Diego Hargreeves relationship headcannons!
(Fluffy and Angsty!!)
Pretends he hates touch but in reality he is severely touched starved.
He gets moody after work because he’s tired and gets overwhelmed easily.
Has severe self worth issues, usually you help him with this by telling him how perfect he is.
Sometimes he just cuddles next to you and starts crying.
You just hold him and tell him everything will be fine.
He does this because he gets overwhelmed and he can’t properly express himself.
Has unresolved trauma from his father, you try suggesting getting professional help, but he’s stubborn .
He sometimes says things while arguing that hurt you deeply, but he always apologizes.
He’s only made you cry once during an argument and he’s never forgiven himself.
Comes home from work and flops on the bed next to you.
He does this so you’ll rub his head.
Also loves when you scratch him, even if he’s not itchy, he just likes the feeling of your touch.
You’re both not big on huge romantic gestures.
A simple night out to a restaurant is good enough for you and him.
Even then, being near you is enough for him.
He loves watching you get ready for bed, he loves talking to you while you do this.
You sometimes go to get food in the middle of night and don’t get back home until hours later.
You both talk a-lot during these outings, mostly about life and how much you love eachother.
Sometimes when he’s anxious in public he subtly starts to hold your hand.
You both love that you don’t have to talk to each other 24/7.
Occasionally loves sitting in silence with you.
thanks for reading! this is my first tumblr post so pls be kind!!!

Flashback
On April the 1st, 2019, the earth was destroyed in a cataclysmic event. Billions of people were wiped out in a matter of minutes. Ironically, the seven survivors of the apocalypse were the very siblings who brought it on.
10:00 AM
LOCATION:UNKNOWN
DATE:UNKNOWN
Falling through Five’s big bright blue blip onto hard, solid concrete in an alleyway was not what you were expecting. Wincing from the impact, you look at the blip anticipating for your siblings to fall with you. “KLAUS,DIEGO?”
You call out desperately for your family but to no avail they don't respond. After a few seconds more, the gateway closes, leaving you without a way out or siblings. Shifting to stand you survey your surroundings.
“Fuck, where am I?” Stumbling down the alleyway. “Holy shit..” You stare in awe at the historic sight in front of you. Different colored Cadillacs, Plymouth Barracudas, and Ford Mustangs, People wearing old timey clothing, many shops and a few diners line the streets as well. Glancing to the left of yourself you notice a discarded magazine with the date ‘FEBUARY 2ND 1959’.
END OF FLASHBACK
That was almost four years ago, so far you’ve acquired a semi stable job, a decent sized but cozy house and the cutest house cat (a fluffy black cat named Cinder).
After four years of barely paying bills and living by yourself in a different timeline you decided to get a roommate, to maybe ease the loneliness and help around the house and with bills, so you come up with an amazing idea, why don't you put up and add for a room for rent? Honestly the best idea you’ve had for a long time.
8:00 AM
LOCATION: DALLAS, TEXAS
DATE:JANUARY 4TH 1962
It's early in the morning, a soft breeze ruffles the trees in the backyard. You simultaneously stir your tea as you're lost in thought as you stare out the kitchen window, Cider hops onto the bench, purring while rubbing his head on your arm.
‘Thump,Thump,Thump’ The sound of soft but heavy knocking breaks your train of thought “Coming!” you hastily make your way to your front door, peeking out the side window next to the door you notice three figures, most likely male by stature. Opening the door cautiously you look at the three blonde men in front of you.

☂️ Umbrella Academy
❀ Five Hargreeves x male reader ⚣︎
A/N: @fandomz-brainrot you asked and here it is: the part two of "Together, we will save the world"
tags/warnings: meet the sibs, set in season 1 still, reader basically insults the sibs, I changed it a bit what happened etc., top/protective reader

Together, we will save the world pt. 2
The boy - who had finally told you that he was called Five - really didn‘t let go of your hand. And that was good because you would‘ve probably walked on the street without noticing while you listened to a summary of how he got here.
It blew your mind. And then you remembered having seen some of the old comics about the umbrella academy not even long ago. The boy you found cute was basically a superhero.
He just finished with the story when you arrived at an expensive looking house with a fence and double doors. Five dragged you inside and the first thing you noticed was the staircase - plus a damn chandelier.
„Wow.“ It was the first thing you said since he had taken your hand.
„Precisely, yes“, sadly he let go of your hand as he said that.
„Five?“, a man‘s voice called from.. somewhere in this house.
„Yes!“, he looked annoyed already.
And suddenly you were met with several people - adults around thirty. „Five, where were you?“, one of them stepped closer to take a look at him worriedly, „Are you okay?“
„I‘m alright, Viktor“, he moved his head away from his outreached hand. Then he noticed you. While he had asked, the others had come closer too and noticed you as well.
A man in all black looked at you suspiciously. „Who‘s this?“ He pointed a small knife at you which creeped you out only a little bit.
Five sighed. „Put the damn knife down, Diego. This is (Y/N), he saved my life.“
Then he looked at you again. “(Y/N), these are my siblings. Viktor, Diego, Klaus, Allison and Luther.“ He pointed at each of them while he said their names.
You did a small nod and an „Hi“ escaped your mouth. Viktor and the guy called Klaus (if you remembered right) were the only ones who smiled back at you. The others were still wary of you.
„Okay, but what happened?“, the tall woman - Allison - asked, „He saved your life?“
„Yes“, Five started walking and signaled for you to follow him. So you did. The others did too. „Remember the commission I told you about. The Handler sent some agents after me. I was on the run - and to be honest on the verge of passing out.“
You had reached the kitchen and Five went over to make a sandwich with peanut butter and marshmallows. Only then did you notice that you hadn’t eaten before you were almost shot earlier. You leaned on the counter as you watched him and crossed your arms.
Five continued. „He got me to calm down and recharge for a moment but then they showed up and long story short without him you‘d probably have to bury me now.“
He was almost finished doing his sandwich when you spoke up with a smirk on your face. „You‘re gonna eat that?“
„Yes, want one too?“, he looked at you as he bit into it.
„Honestly, yes.“ He shoved the ingredients over to you and you went to work.
Meanwhile his siblings started talking again. But you only listened halfway - it was majorly a lot of raised voices so it seemed like nothing too important. Instead you looked at Five.
You noticed the small bruises on his face that probably went to cluster all over his body. His clothes were ripped and well.. not clean. And another thing you noticed was his habit of going through his hair which made it look really disheveled.
Your mind wandered off to other reasons his hair could look like this involving you and a bed - or literally any place. But you quickly directed your mind back to the still arguing siblings.
And then you noticed how Five‘s siblings gave him the fault for all of this chaos - which was absolutely not right. You spoke up with a frown on your face.
„Hey, this really isn‘t fair and it‘s not true. Don‘t you dare go and blame the one person here who actually tries to do something against the shit happening right now. He came back to save your unthankful asses and doesn’t even get a single pause since then because you can‘t work together like you‘re still in elementary. Have you actually looked at him for once - he almost died today. And it won‘t get better if you keep on behaving like that because then he surely goes outside again to overwork himself even more.“
You turned away from his siblings and gently took his hand. Then you went for the door - on the way you grabbed the sandwich you hadn’t eaten yet.
When you were out the door you still didn’t let go of him. „Where in this weird thing of a house is your room?“
He directed you to a room that could‘ve been anyone‘s because of the little to none personal belongings. But the walls were plastered with all kinds of mathematical equations that you couldn‘t understand at all. From what you had heard out of his telling earlier these were most likely his own.
„Have your siblings always been like that?“, you looked around the room and then decided to sit down in a chair in front of the desk.
„Well, we‘ve never really had some kind of sibling-bond I guess. The old man was focussed on training and educating us so we‘d be able to fight and be elite, not on making us feel loved or like a part of a real family.“, he shrugged his shoulders, „It‘s been like that for our whole life.. well, apparently until I vanished and the others ran away.“
For a long time you both said nothing. You ate your sandwich - that actually wasn’t so bad - and Five looked out the window.
“What you thinking about?”, you asked.
“Why are you suspecting that I’m thinking about something specific right now?”, he still didn’t directly look at you but you noticed a quick look from the corner of his eyes.
“Because you have a certain look on your face and - from my observations - you seem like a person with a non-stop brain.”
“That’s.. quite right.”
He finally looked at you and his dark brown eyes pierced into your own. You felt a shiver down your spine and stood up without even noticing at first. But you didn’t stop and the other boy didn’t seem like he wanted to stop you either so you went to sit closely next to him. Now you two looked out the window together.
After some time - you honestly didn’t know how much - you felt Five’s head lay on your shoulder. First unsure and slowly, ready to draw back if needed, but when he noticed that you didn’t have anything against it he relaxed.
You heard and felt the deep sigh that left him and his frame relaxed more and more against you. You took a deep breath before being brave and slowly putting your hand on his thigh. He tensed a little and you were already about to pull your hand back but then he put his own on yours to keep it where it was. As a last brave step, that almost made your heart burst, you put your head on top of his.
You sat there basically snuggled against each other for a long while.
(And if later, when his siblings came in to apologize, they saw you both quickly separate after almost falling asleep on each other, they didn’t say anything about it. They would however be secretly very interested in this developing relationship between their overworked brother and this one guy who gave him happiness, protected him and reminded him to take breaks.)

SO, HOW SHOULD i begin this?
this is the first time i'm going to do a multi-part fic that goes beyond like 2 or 3 parts (rip to the chandelier fic.) bear with me ;;;; but i'm obsessed with everything everywhere and i wanted to do something with the abilities evelyn and joy specifically have. and, of course, the angst that can come from it. looked over this as much as i could but im exhausted so my apologies for any errors ;;;
pairing : five hargreeves x male/transmasc reader [he/him pronouns]
─────
where : five is instantly intrigued by the eighth sparrow, a kid just like himself, which makes him try to seek him out specifically; nothing better than a second opinion about time from another person who knew its intricacies, right? well, he... may have gotten more than he bargained for.
─────
warnings : future mentions of trauma, fighting and injury (specific mentions of choking), existentialism, reader is just exhausted of life and shit in general, future cheesiness and such because i said so, depression, a whole lot of 'if i can bend reality to my will then how much does it really matter' kind of questioning (later on for the most part.)

the disheartening sight of seven other people—ahem, sorry, and one very confusing cube—was made endlessly puzzling by the appearance of a kid behind them. someone who looked five's age. physically, anyway. they both seemed equally entranced by the other; the kid's eyes were wide, his lips slightly parted, as if seeing someone he had been missing for decades. he furrowed his brow a bit, cocking his head, and klaus found himself peering where five glared.
"well, would you look at that? they've got a little brother, too!"
"zip it, klaus," he hissed, though with a certain degree of gentleness in his voice, even excluding the volume he had to use. looking back at the balcony, he was wearing more casual clothes with a sort of... varsity jacket of the sparrow academy's traditional colors and emblems. he was a sparrow, meaning he was born in 1989, meaning he was around thirty years old. so why did he look thirteen? it clicked then, suddenly; his power could have something to do with time. five felt instantly that he needed to speak with him. and if it needed to be done by force, then...
hands crossed neatly over his lap, barely restraining that very obvious agitation, ben chimed in with, "dad, who the hell are these assholes?"
a chorus of "shit" rang out amongst the umbrellas. five stared at him with the same amount of emotion as usual, mostly overrun by confusion, however his sentimentalities ended there. that balcony, barely a few yards from where five stood, held something—someone, rather—that could be an answer to his predicament. or at least help figure out if he could retire or not. if this world was safe enough to stay in. there was a whole host of colorful characters. if he was the sparrows' number eight, what exactly inspired reginald to adopt him as well? or was it just sort of a convenience thing?
luther stepped forward along with klaus. "is that really you?"
no amusement struck ben. if anything, he somehow managed to look more annoyed.
"and who are the weirdos on the balcony!"
"they are the sparrows. my children." reginald's controlled, vaguely irritated voice was such a contrast to diego's harsh tone.
much to five's chagrin this moment was a bit more important than staring at a boy. he turned on his heel, narrowing his eyes at the old man. "i'm sorry, what do you mean your children? that's not possible, old man."
"of course it is! i think i'd know, wouldn't i?"
well. something was very wrong, wasn't it?
the sound of footsteps and shuffling caught his attention and yet again he looked back forward; all of the sparrows once situated haphazardly on the balcony now stood across the tile threshold. the kid was shorter than he expected, in all honesty, and he seemed to be the least serious out of all his siblings—not to say that he looked like he was having fun or that he was laughing, but that he didn't want to fight. he looked like he would avoid it at every cost.
"everyone else can see ben, right?"
"cute hat, sundance."
"they call themselves the umbrella academy," reginald interrupted, "a group of scheming, perfidious malcontents who accosted me in the fall of '63 when i was away on business in dallas. be warned—they claim to be my spawn." all throughout reginald's little schpiel, five and the other kid maintained eye contact, five puzzled at his existence and him puzzled by five's puzzlement. he seemed to find it weird but, oddly enough, he didn't seem weirded out specifically. occasionally five would glance about the rest of the sparrows, gauge them if he could, and when that happened he would sometimes catch the barest glimpse of the kid looking at two of his sisters with confusion.
should i be worried? he was probably thinking to himself.
with five on his opposition? absolutely.
"claim? look, five, what the hell is going on?" allison sounded like she was moments away from boiling over.
"not sure yet, but it's concerning."
"is he telling the truth?" seeming to sense the steadily-rising tensions, the kid started, very slowly, to back away, retreating to the furthest reaches of the carpet before the battle had even begun.
"not the part about us being perfidious." vanya seemed to kind of placate that cowardice in him. maybe he even smiled at vanya.
"no! no, we're amateur-fidious, at best!"
"but we are his children, this is our house."
"yeah, we grew up here."
"yeah, yeah, we grew up here," alphonso mocked, getting a snicker from jayme, however the kid just shot them both a slightly judgmental look.
"i kind of think we would've noticed you," sloane said, to which luther stated his name and offered out his hand. sloane did not accept, really she didn't do a thing, and some whispers broke out amongst her and her little brother, whispers that five couldn't make out.
"okay. none of you belong here."
"oh! well, then. i guess we'll just pack our bags and move out."
christopher babbled and chittered, milking chuckles from his brothers and sisters. five had to say he looked way better smiling than frowning, though he figured it would probably be the same for anyone.
grace came in to the living room, heels click-click-clicking, holding a plate of cookies in her hand and apologizing that she couldn't do better. five couldn't catch the precise details. it was just kind of nice to see her again, even if she was certainly in need of a... few repairs.
"mom." diego's sentimental mumble caught some of the sparrows off-guard. the kid included.
"she's a robot, you perv."
"it's not a robot."
"don't call him that!"
"or what?" ben challenged.
"come closer and find out." bickering broke out between the two families, vanya and marcus actively trying to keep everyone's heads on straight, and five may have lost track of the conversation. until ben threw the first punch, anyway. he ducked back, watching as luther next was flung like a ragdoll across the room, landing on and breaking the poor couch. he saw the boy duck out and wanted to chase but first kept his loyalties, attacking ben and getting lost in a flurry of sharp punches and occasionally-failed dodges.
"you're alive. that's—great, or possibly horrible, i haven't decided yet."
"is that some weird kind of smack talk?"
"it's more of an existential problem, really, ben."
"awesome. well, here's your next problem." with his arms extending back and torso leaning forward, a grimy tentacle quickly burst from his chest, though not fast enough to stop five before he blinked away and onto the balcony.
"y'know, even though you're a total asshat now," five began, rudely cut off by another attack which he yet again evaded with ease. it was easier to land a punch and he watched as ben crashed into the ground. "it's nice to see you again. really." after seeing a particularly disturbing scene between diego and the cube, he stepped in to save allison from a few of the other sparrows, yet again finding himself on the second-floor balcony.
"thanks," allison managed through uneven breaths.
"no problem." both standing up, both dusting themselves off, they saw someone rounding the corner. it was him. still, that look of passive pacifism remained, now somewhat stoic in nature; he didn't want to fight, but he may need to. he was resigning himself to that fact and five could see it in his setting expression. and most importantly, there was also endless loyalty. oh, well.
five furrowed his brow, readjusting his jacket. "go help the others. i'll handle this one."
his new opponent almost seemed to space out, eyes narrowing just a bit as if being flooded by tons of new information. with grace and precision, and certainly speed, he set into a defensive stance. five blinked behind him to try for an attack and it was blocked. he continued to block, evade, block, evade, as fast as five tried to attack. the only sounds he made for a while were little grunts.
every failed punch and every successful block was adding to five's aggravation and his exasperation.
"y'know, five," he said, and hearing him speak for the first time startled five terribly, "delores wouldn't like you fighting like this! i'm not doing anything to you!" that shocked him so bad he misfired a punch but it landed for the first time because of how he went to dodge. he was weaker than five first surmised, falling onto the ground, and five continued to strike him back down until he was pinned and unable to move. he looked enraged, face twisted, eyes wide, teeth bared and gritted, glaring daggers at the kid, who looked to be in quite a bit of pain.
"how do you know my name?!" he barked. "how do you know her name?!" five got no answer and that was endlessly more irritating. the kid slammed his hand onto the ground and grabbed the first thing he could, a small piece of rubble, but five watched as, in those few fractions of seconds, that small piece of debris turned into a metal candlestick.
a metal candlestick.
the moment five saw that, he teleported, reappearing just a few feet away. he pushed off his total confusion; no time. the kid kept the candlestick in his hand when he fumbled to stand, not getting even a moment before five tackled him into a headlock. he didn't think twice about the look of pain on the kid's face because that wasn't exactly imperative and he didn't hesitate at the sounds he made.
the kid raised the candlestick again and five watched in subtle horror as it flitted between many different forms, each punctuated by a small sound and a bit of light. he only recognized a few of those hundred forms before he saw it land, like a wheel of fortune, on a knife and he plunged it down. five jerked out of the way of the blade. even though he had once been so hesitant to fight, so afraid of hurting other people, he seemed finally able to push that away and actually defend himself. he may not have been particularly strong, but he was swift and flexible while wrenching himself out of five's grip and adept at landing hits that would still make five flinch and pause. the kid blocked a punch and the moment that they came in contact with each other, the world around them... changed.
from the slightly destroyed upper floor of the academy house, it became an office building, papers flying about while people panicked about the violent fight between the aisles of cubicles. in that moment of confusion, he landed a hit on five, right in the gut. after a pained second, eyes squeezed tight, he grit his teeth and kept fighting.
the office building had become a high-rise skyscraper that they were fighting on the edge of.
another punch and they were on the deck of a cruise ship.
another block and they were in a spanning parking garage. the kid advanced and forced five to back up, closer to the edge of the space, and certainly to a painful fall. he continued to evade every attempted hit, no matter how five had calculated them, before pouncing on him and shoving him right out of the concrete monolith, plummeting down toward the ground along with him.
"how the hell are you doing this?!" five shouted, voice swallowed up by the shouting winds. he grabbed his shirt, bunching up his collar tight enough to cut off his breathing. the panic in his eyes welled up very quick.
and then they were back. instead of hitting the hard pavement ground, five lost all the air in his lungs when he thudded onto the carpeted academy floor, gasping for a second as the kid scrambled away from him, coughing and wheezing.
five hadn't even strangled him for that long, what the hell?
five forced himself to sit, to stand, shooting the glare to end all glares at the boy across from him—however he didn't attack yet. after all the disorientation he felt from those few... transitions, he wanted to keel over and vomit. he was in no condition to fight. luckily, however, neither was his opponent.
killing the kid would not get five his answers, no matter how badly he wanted to do it.
the kid was on the ground, propping himself up on one of his hands, his entire body seeming wracked by pained, nauseated tremors. he looked to be heaving, expression conflicted, exhausted beyond exhausted. he held his head the way one would when suffering from a bad headache.
his question went unanswered, which just served to annoy five further. "are you a time traveler or something? no. a multiversal traveler? do you work with the commission? that's the only possibility i can think of." knowing about delores, knowing about his name, certainly knowing his past, instantly transporting both of them to different places, it could all connect to multiversal travel.
but that spacing out part, before he could dodge like some highly trained professional, and that debris-to-candlestick-to-knife part? those still kind of puzzled him.
the kid wrinkled his nose. "that's the only possibility? you've got a narrow range." for someone who sounded so pained and exhausted, he could manage some mouthiness. somehow he sounded more genuine than sarcastic, though. strange. what about him wasn't?
five's eye twitched and his lips pressed hard into a scowl. "a narrow range? a narrow range? my 'range' isn't narrow! i've seen so many possibilities unfold! do you even know what i had to do to get here?" his words hissed with pure venom. that didn't faze his opponent, even whilst he jabbed an accusatory finger at him, as though somehow this was his fault.
"i do, actually," he managed, although still short of breath. "you got trapped in the apocalypse for a few decades, offered a deal from the commission, broke your contract with them and became a fugitive, got back to your family, and have been trying to evade apocalypses ever since. third time's the charm, right, five?" he recounted it all with the cadence and sensitivity of a history teacher summarizing an important, yet complicated, period of time.
"how could you possibly know—stop calling me that! how are you able to do any of this!"
"i'm not gonna stop calling you by your name." he laughed through his words. he laughed.
"is my exasperation funny to you?"
"i-i mean, kinda! do you know how many ways i've seen this conversation going?" five stilled like a statue. "this was the most common outcome. well, uhm, aside from you just killing me. it's just a little funny how you always react the same way." he shrugged a bit, as though this was simply some high school gossip, and not (one of) the most puzzling thing that five had ever been exposed to.
"look," five began, trying to steady himself. "if you don't tell me how you know about me—how you know about delores—this will become a timeline where i kill you. okay? capiche?"
he raised his hands in surrender. they shook. "capiche, five."
"stop. calling me that."
"to even the playing field, i'm [y/n]. there." he sat forward, resting his elbows on his knees, checking his hands. yet again he seemed to space out, just for a moment this time, before going through a grounding technique. he looked determined now, not as tired as before, though it did remain rather clearly in his eyes. [y/n] was just a kid again. he looked like a pathetic, sick kitten. "it's my power. i was born like this. you travel through space and time, i travel through reality. all of reality. alternate universes, as you know them. close by, far away, ones almost exactly the same and some with very distinctive evolutionary branches. the further away the world, the... stranger they get. i can see literally any possibility. so i—i fucking know you, five. i know you. i know your brothers and your sister and your in-laws and your niece and every other niece or nephew you could've had. there are so, so many worlds where i was an umbrella, or your friend, or stuck with you in the apocalypse, or... something like that. that's how i know you, and know delores. i was there."
sister, singular?
fuck, why was that his first take-away?
five narrowed his eyes slightly. "you can see every alternate universe," he said, slowly, as if clarifying something to [y/n] when he really needed the clarification for himself.
he nodded. "use them, too."
"use...?"
[y/n] broke into a little smile. his answer remained unknown because their restrained conversation was interrupted by one of [y/n]'s sisters. just one glance and his smile disappeared, staring at five with now-widened eyes, mouthing something along the lines of 'get the fuck out.'
five didn't need to be told twice. a flit of light and he had disappeared to who-the-hell-knows-where.
"who the hell was that creep," jayme mumbled, watching as [y/n] stumbled to his feet and dusted himself off. she grabbed him by the scruff of his jacket out of instinct to make sure he didn't fall over.
"uh... someone pretty interesting," [y/n] said, staring at where he'd once been, the flash of bright light still burned into his eyes. he wanted to find him. maybe needed to find him. probably because something in the world was very wrong, even if no other timeline had figured it out yet.
if any of the umbrellas knew where to hide out, it would probably be klaus, right? simple solution. kind of. as long as he could sneak out undetected by his siblings.

a good bit of time had passed when you finally had the chance to scope out the hotel obsidian. you had changed into something more casual and lowkey, sunglasses now balanced atop your nose and a nice light scarf about your neck. music played over your headphones and you wandered inside of the place, stricken with the sight of heavy art deco. it was rather nice, actually, when you took the time to appreciate it. then again, your mind was rather preoccupied with what was probably a very big deal. on the other side of the lobby, in the little bar and lounge area, you could spot a few of the hargreeves siblings. most notably five, now wearing a white bathrobe. soon his eyes glanced to you and you could feel his gaze sharpen. he looked back at his brothers and excused himself, stepping off the stool and teleporting to you before his feet hit the ground.
"what are you doing here," he hissed through gritted teeth.
"i mean, our conversation got cut off earlier. seemed right to continue it, y'know?"
five looked back at his brothers and then at you once more. klaus was staring after him but you didn't know if he recognized you; luther and diego were still totally enraptured in their chinese food.
the look on five's face told you a whole lot; it was critical to him to talk with you, figure things out, because he guessed—and guessed right—that you weren't just here to politely finish a conversation. something weird was going on, whether he wanted to know or not. "alright. okay. fine. just," he grasped your shoulder after a second and then you were both gone, reappearing instantaneously in a room you assumed to be five's. small cot in the corner, bunk bed opposite, and a couch.
god, you wanted to throw up. you clutched your stomach, squeezing your eyes shut for a minute.
he crossed his arms and looked at you. "so where exactly did we leave off?"
you paused to scrub your mind, trying to recall. a few blinks broke the few seconds of spacing out. usually you weren't this forgetful, but, uh, today was an interesting one. "i said i can use those universes and that confused you. and then jayme came around and i told you to leave."
"right," five muttered. "what exactly did you mean by that?"
"well, obviously i can use them for information." your voice was somewhat soft, actually, which was mighty strange to him.
"hmph. how could i forget." five's flat voice was thick with sarcasm.
you managed a smile. "but i can also use them for skills and stuff. the dodging, earlier; i can't really do that here. there's a world where i star in fighting movies and stuff, where i'm good at dodging and i'm fast and flexible, and i can... link my mind, i guess, and use those skills. and the... the candlestick. knife. thing. i can change things to whatever another me is holding. i can change my clothes. i can change reality."
"so, in essence, your mind is able to find every other instance of you across time and space and access them? and... communicate with them, i suppose, in some way or another."
you shrugged a bit. "about explains it. but the—... can i ask you something?" you suddenly sounded sheepish, hesitant, like you were constantly rethinking what you were about to say. five furrowed his brow, a little surprised to see that look on your face, and he really didn't like it.
"depends on what that something is," he responded, speaking cautiously.
you found yourself spacing out again, but this time not to access some alternate plane of existence. every other universe had its own noise, and every other universe was persistently audible; that loud buzz was starting to give you yet another headache. it was probably possible to overdose on tylenol, right? suddenly that constant look of exhaustion on your face was even more obvious to five. for a moment, he seemed almost sympathetic to that. he could certainly understand it, at the very least. "you've got about twenty-eight years of experience on me," you began, forcing your voice to be steady. "do you have any clue how to deal with the, uhm, existential part of it all?" lightheartedness seemed to be a skill of yours. five could respect it.
you doubted, sincerely doubted, that there could be anything in the world to help you from the persistent noise. or from the pain and exhaustion of swatting from world to world to world in the span of thirty seconds during a fight. it was a wonder you were still walking.
"why should i help you with that, exactly? your family tried to kill mine."
"i didn't try to kill anyone. i hid upstairs the entire time. well, uh, almost the entire time. i can be an ally to you guys. i'd... prefer to be allied with you guys." if anyone else in the world knew about the ins and outs of the umbrella academy, five had no doubt in his mind that it would be you and your presumably-torturous ability. it would probably be a smart idea on their side as well, to ally with you.
"before i agree to help you at all, how can i be sure your family isn't using you as some sort of... puppet? some sort of inside man?"
you shrugged a bit after a second. "i wouldn't be a very good choice."
"seriously? do you think i'm stupid or something?"
you crossed your arms, looking at him with narrowed eyes. "no. i know you aren't stupid. and i'm pretty sure that your first choice wouldn't be a 'weak thirteen-year-old kid with a power that cripples him with headaches and exhaustion whenever he uses it,' either. not to mention that said kid can't hear what's going on sometimes because of literally every other sound in the expansive multiverse." the words were sarcastic but the tone was very genuine, almost excruciatingly so.
"i have... so many more questions now."
you shrugged a bit. "i can answer some of them, i guess." considering that you knew almost all the ins and outs of his life, it seemed only fair to share some of yours. you were too tired to steer the conversation back to why you had came. perhaps you'd already forgotten it.
"why exactly are you thirteen? you were born in 1989, you had to be."
"... i chose to stay this age."
"how can you just choose to stay that age?" exasperation met with confusion in a very strange voice of five's. even after all he'd gone through and learned, you were just springing question marks all over the place. god damnit.
"i can manipulate almost every aspect of reality, five," you said, softly, in response. "it's not out of the realm of possibility to stay thirteen. not for me."
five nodded slightly after a second. that nod steadily turned into a shake of his head. "jesus—i should've grabbed some coffee." he pinched the bridge of his nose, shaking his head. "just give me a second."
"oh. uh, no need." glancing about the room, there was a small corner table, atop it an ice bucket and some plastic cups for water. he watched, for some reason a bit puzzled, as you placed your hands on it. spaced out. and it flitted to a fresh coffee pot and a mug. they seemed like something from a diner.
well, that would make sense, wouldn't it?
you poured him a cup and handed it, still steaming, over to him.
five scowled a bit, staring down at the filled mug, before his sharp gaze landed on you again.
"it's just coffee, five. it's not poisoned or anything. here." you plucked it back out of his grasp and took a sip, waited a few seconds, and handed it back. "see? you're fine."
after a second, he nodded. "right." he didn't find himself bothered by drinking from the same mug you had. he'd done a lot worse things, hadn't he?
"so... what were those other questions?"
after taking a few healthy swigs, he cleared his throat. "your ability—it really taxes you? even after all these years?" five would never admit it, but the coffee was pretty goddamn good. whatever diner your alternate-self worked in was worth a visit, if it existed in this world. "is that why you were shaking and panting so much earlier?"
you felt a bit embarrassed. "yeah," you mumbled. "i trained with it a lot, but, i wasn't very strong to begin with." you sat down carefully on the sofa, pulling a bottle of painkillers from your coat pocket.
"when's the last time you had a dose?" five asked, mug to his lips, shooting you a side-eye.
"... maybe three hours ago. why?"
he clicked his tongue and shook his head, plucking the bottle out of your hands. "not now, then."
"dude! what the hell! i-i need those!"
"well, i can't keep asking questions to someone sick from taking too much tylenol. and you can wait three hours."
you groaned but didn't complain, just settling back against the comfortable cushions. "fine. i'll wait." and you mumbled 'you're just like sloane' under your breath.
"good," he mumbled, sitting down beside you after tossing the pills onto his bed. "you said you could hear every sound in the multiverse. something tells me that isn't a hyperbole."
you nodded a bit and slouched down, trying to figure out a decent analogy. "when you remove a door from its threshold, you can always hear what's on the other side, unless you actively tune it out. just, for me, there were never doors. it was always like this. every single feasible universe is out there, fighting for my attention, almost every waking moment." you recounted with a deep sort of mourning. five couldn't blame you, he supposed. you had been robbed of silence, of pure solitude, of privacy. his heart almost ached for you.
had you been born with the doors off their frames? he wanted to ask, he really wanted to ask, but it was probably going to be way too... private of a thing. personal. from what he could tell.
"and i thought wrangling that crowd of toddlers was bad. i can't imagine hearing everything they do, everywhere, constantly," he mused.
you cracked a smile. it had been a while since you were able to joke around with someone, even if that someone had interrogated you like a police investigator. "oh, it's the worst," you giggled, and he laughed along. "i mean, it's bad enough knowing what your brothers do into their socks, it's even worse to walk in on them over, like, over two thousand times."
"i've known you for a very short period of time, but something tells me that's the worst thing you've ever said."
for someone in a very persistent and terrible bout of pain, your laugh, and your smile, were incredibly bright. five couldn't really say that he was expecting this when first appearing in the umbre—ahem. in the sparrow academy building, but he wasn't exactly complaining. this could be nice. he really hoped it would be, anyway.
silence fell on you two for a while. the overbearing static was starting to edge back in now that you had nothing more to say. the pain was ebbing.
"... something's wrong." you sounded deadly serious, it was horrifying.
"s—sorry?" five felt like he had whiplash after such an extreme diversion from the topic.
you seemed to be fighting that urge to space out a whole lot more. this was important, you needed to stay on track, and yet your stress was doing exactly the opposite of tunnel vision. shit.
five noticed; and he kind of needed you to talk, as fast as possible, so reached out and pinched your neck, successfully getting you to tense and wake up, in some sense of the words. offense was replaced with gratitude in your eyes. "i don't know exactly what. no other universe has figured it out. but you aren't supposed to be here, this isn't your timeline, that's—a very big problem. it could potentially 'rip a hole in space and time.'" five muttered along with you, cussing and hanging his head.
"why didn't you say this first?" he hissed.
"i'm sorry!" you sounded very genuine and he felt rather bad. "i-i—the interrogation and then the pain and then the... getting along with you, i forgot." it was another world, some utterance of 'not normal yet' that brought the thought back to you.
your voice was cracking. you felt far worse than five could ever make you feel.
"... it's fine. it's fine."
"it very much isn't. you know that."
five knew it all too well. he groaned, pinched the bridge of his nose, and downed the rest of his coffee. "fantastic."
"i mean, it may be a problem we can solve." you shot him a smile, a tired and weak little thing, but it did comfort him a bit.
"the universe will really mind if seven dumbasses stick around?" his humor had soured, but it was still there. you felt very guilty, unable to look him in his eyes, shoulders slouched as if defeated in some great thing.
"she's a stickler for rules."
"hmph." he scowled a full-face scowl. "no retirement yet, i guess."
out of all the things you could ever have seen, heard, felt, and known, one thing seemed... important. emotionally, anyway. "if it's, uhm, any consolation... retirement did look good on you, by the way."
he couldn't help but smile a bit. somewhere out there was a world where you and five were friends well into his retirement, be that at his confusing age or his chronological age from 1989, where he was happily retired with no time-threatening anomalous issues to draw him out. even if he was bound to die in this timeline, there was some comfort in knowing many other timelines saw him content. "i'll take your word for it."
