Prompt:
Dick is thrown back in time to a couple days before his past self is scheduled to leave on the mission to space, the one during which Jason will die.
Past Dick gets a very frantic and concerning phone call from someone claiming to be his future self, begging him not to go on the mission. And for some reason he‘s supposed to keep an eye on Jason? What the hell is that about? They’re not that close…

"Dick Grayson has anger issues-" okay, but does he actually? When I thought that was true I come to find that most of the evidence to make that claim come from a time in which Dick was being mentally controlled by Brother Blood or right after the death of his parents which obviously would cause anger after finding out they didn't even die naturally but were murdered on top of that.

Idk why but everytime I imagine Dick fighting with Bruce anyone I see him looking like this:
With his hair going “bounce” “bounce” “bounce” and then falling dramatically crying and cutting out holes in tshirts and stabbing red velvet cakes and swinging golf clubs.
Idk it just feels like he would go off the deep end a little in both extremes because it’s always 100 or nothing with him 🙈

robin: the boy wonder — mythology: alex ross #1
(ID below cut)
[ID: a two page spread titled: Robin - The Boy Wonder. The art is in a bronze monochromatic colour scheme and it's narrated in Dick Grayson's perspective as he explains an overview of his backstory.
"My name is Richard Grayson, otherwise known as Robin - The Boy Wonder. I know what you're thinking. The late hours, the cool gadgets, the death-defying action - this kid has it all. Yeah, sometimes it's pretty cool." Robin is crouched on a building ledge as his yellow cape flows behind him. He's looking straight ahead and staring at the Gotham skyline that's filled with tall skyscrapers. Eight small, vertical panels are beneath him, accompanying the rest of his narration.
"But I had it better. Once I was part of the Flying Graysons aerial act, and more importantly, I was part of a family." Dick is shown as a young boy, performing a trapeze act in the air. His mother is smiling on a platform behind him as he reaches for his father's hands.
"Then one night, it all came to an end. There was an 'accident'." Dick is on the ground and is looking up as his parents are holding hands and falling. Their cut cables are falling after them as their son and a crowd in the background have to witness their deaths.
"Sleazy hoods were trying to scare protection money out of our circus, and killed my folks as a warning. I found out about it, but there was no one I could turn to for help." Dick is crouched near a doorway and is eavesdropping on the circus' owner getting threatened by a few mobsters.
"But then Batman turned to me. He had uncovered the truth about the shakedown and wanted me to help him bring the killers to justice." Dick is looking up at Batman, both of their backs to us and their features concealed in a shadow. In front of them, in the background, is the circus tent.
"He understood what I was going through because he had been there himself. He offered me the chance to join him full-time in his war on crime." Batman is pushing down his cowl, exposing his secret identity.
"He became my teacher, my big brother, and my friend. I don't think any kid worked harder to prove himself or enjoyed it more." Dick is training with Bruce - smiling as he flips him onto his back.
"It was my chance to right some wrongs and fight for people who couldn't, kind of like a modern-day Robin Hood." Dick and Bruce are wearing boxing gloves as they punch a hanging speed bag.
"Best of all, it's good to be part of a family again. Now life's not a circus anymore. It's an adventure." Batman and Robin are in their costumes and standing on a rooftop. The background remains in monochrome as they're shown in full colour. Robin is smiling as he's crouched, looking down over the ledge. Batman is standing behind him with a small smile of his own. END ID]

Me, reading the idea that Jason thinks he accidentally kills Dick in the dragon au: WAIT no-
Me, imagining Dick surviving somehow - on a wing and a prayer, and him clawing his way back to Gotham with Nightwing because there's no way he's letting this be the last time he sees his family and brother: wait.
Me, imagining that instead of going home, Dick just drags himself to wherever Jason's kingdom is, confronting him there and seeing just how badly Jason spiraled after thinking he killed his older brother: okay this may be onto something here.
Omg!!! Bonus points if Dick only gets so far in his journey because well meaning commoner recognizes the crown prince and realizes that “shit, if the new tyrant/king/whatever went crazy because of this dude, maybe getting him back will do the reverse thing? And stop him feeding people to Red?”

The batgirls on their periods (conclusion)
The batgirls on their period and how the boys handle them. My Aunt Flo is visiting this month and period woes should be told. All right, let’s do this thing!
Stephanie rested on the floor in the fetal position. She groaned from the intense cramps her period bestowed on her. Tim walked into the living room spotting her on the ground next to the couch.
Tim (raised eyebrow): Why are you on the floor?
Stephanie (uncomfortable): I attempted to readjust myself on the couch, and then I was on the ground. That's when the stomach cramps entered the mix and I am in too much cramp pain to want to get up. Why are these always so... intense?
Tim (missing the point): You might have a medical condition related to the-
Stephanie (seething): I need you to stop doing what you usually do. I seriously don’t want to kick you in the crotch and mind you I’m at the level to do so.
Tim (not concerned): Sorry, it's hard turning it off. Um, do you... Do you need anything?
Stephanie (sardonic): For us to switch places and you go through this.
Tim shook his head with a frown.
Tim: Nah, I'm good.
Stephanie (woefully): It feels like an elephant is standing on top of my ovaries and… bouncing.
Tim: That is… oddly descriptive.
Stephanie chuckled raising her hand to talk with it.
Stephanie: Because it’s real, mon frère. At least I still have my humor.
She moaned in pain once more from the elephant bouncing pain.
Stephanie (staring at the ceiling): I think this is it, Timothy. Leave me here to die. Tell my family I loved them and tell Kite-man not to attend my funeral. I’m serious, lock the doors if he tries to step foot at my burial service.
Tim rolled his eyes and helped his friend up.
Tim: At least lay on the couch.
Stephanie: Yes, I'll lay here and suffer.
Tim laid her on the couch and placed a pillow behind her head.
Tim: I can get you an ice or heating pack. That helped when I got kicked in the stomach.
Stephanie: Hmmm, bring me the warm one and Nutella and more carrots... And pain meds. The kind that will let me sleep like a baby.
Tim: Gotcha. Anything else?
Stephanie, raising her pointer finger spoke as if she was an old lady.
Stephanie (sounding like an old lady): Blanket, child. A fuzzy one.
Tim (sympathetic): You just rest. I will take care of you until your period ends. I'll also tell Bruce you're too... Sore is the word I want to use, yeah, too sore to go out tonight.
Stephanie (sincerely): Thank you. You're the best.
Tim: I try to be.

Dick Grayson got the angry side of the menstrual cycle. Something he dealt with since knowing Barbara and it was never a fun time.
Barbara was not happy with her replacement cake. A vanilla and chocolate mixed cake that Dick bought at the grocery store.
Barbara: This isn't the same cake! It has vanilla in it! You bastard!
Barbara hurled the cake at Dick, hitting him squarely in the face with pinpoint accuracy. The cake quickly slid off, leaving behind a smattering of icing and crumbles clinging to his features. He inhaled sharply, his heavy breaths mingling with surprise.
Dick (mantra): Maintain peace. Maintain peace.
Barbara (crying): Why did you eat my cake? I needed it at this time!
Dick wiped cake out of his eyes, reminding himself he had to be calm when Barbara was going through PMDD during her time of the month.
Dick: Maybe you shouldn't have said I could eat the rest.
Barbara (shouting): You shouldn't have listened to me! I was naive back then!
Dick (losing his temper): It was… two days ago!
Barbara pouted then burst into more sobs, her makeup smearing and her glasses fogging from the tears.
Barbara (crying harder): You... YOU YELLED AT ME!
Dick (panicked): Don’t cry- How was I supposed to know your period was coming on?!
Barbara: You live with Bruce Wayne! The man tracks... everything! I thought you'd have the knowledge to do the same.
Dick (softly): I really don't. You seemed to fail at that too.
Barbara (angry): I was a few days off okay?! This is such shit! I’m tired and bloaty, and I can’t focus! I want to get to work, but my brain is foggy. Worst of all... you made me cry!
Barbara sobbed, her hands covering her face as her tears flowed. Dick let out a sigh and carefully approached her. He wrapped his arms around her, offering a comforting hug to reassure her that everything would be alright.
Dick: I know you're dealing with a tough week, and I really can't handle another sore foot. Why don't you take a break? Shut down this room for the night and give yourself some time to rest. I can swing by and pick up a big box of your favorite chocolates, along with a teddy bear you can use to vent your frustrations instead of taking it out on me. Just take some space until you’re ready to dive back into work and I'll try to do comms for the night.
Barbara (sniffling): That might actually help. I’m really sorry for yelling at you and running over your foot. The cake throwing was out of line too. I guess my PMDD makes me a bit harder to handle sometimes.
Dick (sarcastically): No really I couldn't tell.
Barbara: Can you not tell anyone I cried either?
Dick (smiling): I’d rather forget all of this happened, secrets safe with me.
---------------------------------------
Jason got lucky with the calmer side of the cycle, even though Cass is a bit shy about discussing it. Her birth father wasn’t really the type to take on the responsibility of raising a daughter properly. Bruce tried his best, but it was always a little awkward between them. At least Jason is a better person to take along to the local convenience store for menstrual supplies.
Cass walked over to Jason, carrying four different brand boxes of menstrual pads.
Cass: I couldn't figure out what to get so I picked each brand they had. I swear you think one brand will do its job and then… it doesn’t.
Jason shook his head, not wanting to dwell on what she meant. He closed his eyes, already regretting what he was about to say.
Jason: Never tell anyone this, but Artemis recommends the Playtex. Just get that so we can go.
Cass: Artemis suggested that? Okay, that’s the one to buy.
Cass handed Jason the Playtex box and then pushed the other brand boxes onto a store shelf.
Jason (blushing): All right, take this back please.
Cass giggled as she took the box back and tucked it under her arm.
Cass: I'm glad you took me to the store, you’re the best.
Cass tried to hug her brother, but he stepped aside.
Jason: Don't hug me in a convenience store as you're shopping for pads. I’m just as uncomfortable as you.
Cass (smiling): I'll give you that hug later. Oh if it's okay can you buy me a lot of caramel candies? I'm not a chocolate person honestly and these pads are expensive.
Jason grabbed five bags without hesitation.
Jason: As long as I'm not paying for the...  Pads.
Cass: You so silly. You said Artemis has her own time of the month.
Jason (blushing): Yeah I don't- I don't help her out with that. Amazon women... not nice during that time. She screams at me if I talk to her during that pe- ti- situation. At least you're not as... Punchy as she is.
Cass: Yeah I'm pretty mellow during this time. Just bad cramps and feeling mushy.
Jason (sheepishly): That's... not mood swings. Good… for you. I think. This is my life right now.
Cass laughed, patting Jason on the arm.
Cass: Pretty much. I'm surprised you came in the store with me though.
Jason: I mean I wanted to help you out... because I care about you and I saw how nervous you were.
Cass sniffled with a smile.
Jason: Yeah I know I'm awesome. Let's check out. You go first.
Cass: I don't blame you.
---------------------------------------
Kate has been through her cycle enough times to be used to it. Her and Bruce were at Chili's (Not by Bruce's choice) and talk about menstrual cycles. Kate does all of the talking, Bruce is regretting ordering the burger.
Kate (chewing): I swear this one week is the bane of every woman who has to suffer through it. Blood coming out of that area, the aching and throbbing can be intense when my cramps start. It’s like someone is drilling a corkscrew into my uterus. The entire week is nothing but exhaustion, even walking is difficult. Then there’s the diarrhea and your breasts-
Bruce dropped his fork and slammed his fist on the table to silence his cousin. She let out a chuckle.
Bruce: Why are you telling me this while we're at a chain restaurant?
Kate laughed, taking another bite of her steak.
Kate: You're my cousin and that gives me the right to gross you out. That and you have to know this by now. You have daughters.
Bruce: I'm starting to wish I had all boys.
Kate (mockingly): You boys are so sensitive about this stuff. How do you think we feel?
Kate snatched a fry from Bruce's hand and popped it into her mouth. He had intended to eat that.
Bruce (monotone): You want the rest of my fries?
Kate: N- I’ll take a couple.
Kate grabbed a fist full of fries and plopped them on her plate.
Kate: Brucie, just support us like you do already and we won't cuss you out.
Bruce (doubtfully): Yes you will.
Kate: I’m lying you got me. You're doing a great job though, cuzzo.
Bruce (sweetly): I’m glad that I am.

When I saw the idea of Freakshow having the Flying Graysons, my first thought was that he already had them when he stopped in Amity Parks.
I was imagining them being scared and confused after the mind control is broken because this is the first time they've been free since right after they died.  They don't fully understand what happened to them, and they don't know where their son is.
This is the first time Danny, Sam, and Tucker have seen a ghost right after their passing (except for Danny, but he's a special case in a lot of ways).  This ends up slowing them all down enough that they don't abscond before the police arrive.  Now Danny and the Graysons are even more distraught.
Sam and Tucker were hidden and probably could have both avoided getting caught, but Sam sees angry authority figures unfairly menacing terrified victims, and what else could she do?
She bursts out of her hiding place as quickly as she can without exposing Tucker, plants herself between the police and the ghosts, and lets them have it for treating victims like villains (we saw her scathing commentary briefly cow Skulker in the purpleback gorilla episode,  don't try and tell me she couldn't manage it with humans).  Danny ends up having to hold her back from getting physical and tell her to please stop antagonizing the nice police officers who are just doing their jobs before she gets shot.
Sam gets in trouble, but the narrative in the news coverage of the event is a little more sympathetic to the plight of the ghosts.
The kids help the Graysons figure things out.  Tucker looks up Dick for them, and they are able to see that he's been adopted and is probably safe for the moment.  They decide to take a little time to learn how to function as ghosts and get their heads together before deciding what to do next.
While they're working on that, they become increasingly concerned about these kids who are apparently fighting evils no child should even encounter without any adult help.  They do have their own stuff they're worried about, but it's starting to seen like it would be irresponsible to leave things as they are.  They're about ready to strangle the Fenton parents.
Then something goes wrong (GIW, reveal gone wrong, Vlad, whatever), and Team Phantom has to flee from Amity Park.  Finally, the conflicting urges are compatible!  Time to bundle the kids off to Gotham!
You cannot imagine how happy we are to see you again, Dick.  Sorry it took us so long, there was a heck of a commute from the town with an afterlife portal to Gotham.  You've grown so much!  Anyway, come meet your new little siblings.  Oh, is that Thomas and Martha's boy?  Hold on, let me call them.  Yes, Tucker found a way to make telecommunications work between the afterlife and the living realm, isn't he talented?
You know I’m kinda shocked that there hasn’t been a fic (or at least I haven’t found one) where Freakshow has the ghosts of the Flying Grayson’s and renames them the Flying Ghouls or some bs.
Like I can imagine Freakshow seeing the ghosts of two of the greatest acrobats of all time and thinking, I need them for my show!
But could you imagine Circus Gothica is in Gotham and Dick ropes his siblings to the circus cuz he is the big brother and he watch to go to the circus!!!
But then the “Flying Ghouls” come out and he can’t really see their faces but he KNOWS those moves and Tim backs him up because he ALSO KNOWS those moves!
I imagen that Dick every time something about his parents comes up or when he fights with Bruce he just reverts to his feral teenage self and starts doing things by himself like back when he first became Nightwing.
So Nightwing sneaks into the circus after hours and meets the Flying Ghouls and immediately know that they are his parents. They managed think clearly when they realized Nightwing was their little Robin and have enough energy to fight back against the mind control and warn their boy before Freakshow came back.
They tell him about ghosts and how the met another boy that reminded them of Dick and to find him and he will help free them!
So Dick then sets off to find Danny Fenton.
If anyone wants to use this prompt just link me to the fic or whatever is made out of it!!!

Platonic Yan! Dick Grayson w/ batsis darling
Tumblr media
A/N: I'm sorry. I love crazy Dick. WHat can sayyy..
concept: You instantly don't take a liking to Dick. Something about him makes you uncomfortable. He's obsessed with being your favorite sibling and making you love him back...even if he has to wring it out of you. (Any version of Dick)
Warnings; Obsession, intimidation and possessive behaviors
Requests: always open. please read pinned post/masterlist
Masterlist
Yandere Dick is a good big brother. He still finds time out of his hectic life to spend with all of his siblings. He remembers all of their interests, a shoulder to cry on and an overall positive reinforcement for the bunch. When you first got in the family, everyone told you over and over, just how perfect he was. There was no better brother than he.
But would i be wrong to say i love the idea of Dick Grayson having a vicious temper? I mean it's hidden perfectly behind is charming smile and good-willed nature.
From the moment you met him, you never truly felt at ease. There was just something off about him that set off alarm bells in your head. You didn't feel safe...you didn't want to be alone with him. It was a guilty feeling seeing as everyone else took to him so well. He was more than welcoming to you so you didn't know why you felt this way.
Dick could sense your unease with him, much to his dismay. He didn't like that one bit. It pissed him off really. In what world someone didn't like him? especially one of the little brats Bruce waddled in. You need to feel comfortable with him, he's a perfectionist that takes nothing less.
Yandere Dick Grayson is obsessed with being your favorite sibling. He's achieved it with all the others, you're no exception. But you avoid him at every single turn. Literally. You've rejected movie nights, dinner invitations, gifts, and other kind gestures. His self worth is rather outward and you're hurting him very badly right now. Why can't you see that? stop being difficult and love your big bro.
As time progresses you can see more cracks coming through. The others cannot possibly notice a flaw in him but you see it all. You know he's eager to be close with you but your body just won't let you. He terrifies you. Especially when you are hanging out with another sibling or texting them.
You don't ever reach out to him. You don't care about him like you did with the others. Why don't you care? You ghosted ever message he's ever sent you. He constantly asks if you're okay or if you want food but you just cannot be bothered to reply. To you it's a trap. You're scared if you give him an inch that he'll run a mile. (which he would)
He becomes visibly irritable with you. He'll grit his teeth through his stunning smile and his seemingly playful words laced with venom. They're soft enough that the others brush it off but you can read between the lines. Other times if you're eating family dinner, and he's upset with you chatting it up with someone, he'll serve you last and the least amount of food.
Dick's last resort was to just forcefully get you alone together for a brother-sister bonding experience. He tricked you in saying the others were meeting at a pizza place after their patrol and offered to drive you over since he was about to leave. You get there, awkwardly sitting at a booth alone with him. He's trying his best to strike up a conversation and patch things up but you're completely silent. You barely even look at him, your eyes are constantly scanning the room for your siblings expected arrival. Hoping one of them would come and save you.
To his glee, you had eventually spoken up but only to ask when the others were supposed to arrive. His smile dropped and the blood in his hands could’ve burst out from how tightly his fists were clenched.
This is his tipping point. You ignored him all this time and the second you decided to speak up it's about them? Something switched in Dick.
It was a strange sight to see. His eyes eyes were completely glossed over and dilated with a murderous intensity. They're wide as they shot through you. His jaw tightened as he thought about how he wanted to hurt you like you're doing with him. You wanna play mental games with him? So be it. He should torture his love right into you. He's got a perfect method aaaalll picked out. You're giving him a run for his money and he's all out of it.
"Jealousy is endearing, don't you think?" His tone was deceptively playful, you knew he was anything but happy at the moment. The unease in his demeanor was enough to cause you to shift in your seat and lean back against the plush of the booth's backboard.
You hesitantly questioned what he could've possibly meant by that to his reply of,
"I just understand your game now. You enjoy making me jealous, it's fun to you. This is all a playful ruse to get more of my attention?...Right?” He shook his head and let out a deep, twisted chuckle.
“You didn't have to do all of this, baby bird. I would've made more than enough time for you had you asked. But i forgive you, if that's all this was?" He leaned in over the table, inches away from your face. His brows furrowed and the intimidation from his eye contact was enough to make you crumble. He was a dangerous person, capable of so many things. He would physically hurt you or his siblings but he’ll find a way to make sure he was number one.
The honest answer to his question was No, this wasn't a game. You just didn't like him. That was all.
But you knew what this was. He was giving you a way out before he gave into the thoughts swarming his mind. There was only one right answer. Give up the gun, say yes, and embrace your brother. He only wants a relationship with you. He's the best there ever was at his job so please, stop being a hard-ass and love him back...

So we all are aware Jason pulls the whole you replaced me or your a pretender to Tim.
Now in the comics Dick really loves Tim like that is his little brother he would protect him with everything he's got.
I want maybe the bats are getting along Jason's over for family dinner, to steal something I don't know he's there.
Now Jason's in the cave sees Tim and decides to be a ass.
"Oh how's it going Replacement enjoying my colors"
Dick who was doing something on the other side overhears this, now Nightwing is famous for his temper we are aware but he also is calculating knows where to hit it where it hurts.
He walks over sees his baby bird's sad little face now Dick remembers that night at the circus he had begged Mama if they could adopt little Timmy he had already claimed the little bird.
And as a big brother it is is job to knock annoying little siblings off their high horse.
"Hey Timmy looking good in our colors, shit replacement, oh I mean Jason didn't see you there"
The look on Jason face is unforgettable.
"I find it really funny the amount of bitching you do Jay-Bird considering if I had my way Tim here would have been a Grayson but alas. Then again never too late for an adoption right?"
If looks could kill Jason would be back in his coffin.
Tim though looks estatic and maybe Dick will feel guilty later but Jason tried to kill his baby.
"It's just funny you know everyone complaining about being Robin the name my mother gave me. It's almost like I can say who wears it and I think the little brother I hugged the night my parents died might get first dibs then again what would I know?"
I want Dick to be Petty as fuck. Now he loves Jason to but in the grand sceme of things the order of importance is.
Damian and Tim
The Titans/Oracle
Duke and Cass
Jason( if he hasn't tried to murder his babies)
Other assorted people
Everyone else in the world
Bruce (and Jason if he has tried to kill the babies)

My personal take on how anger looks on the batboys part.1:
Dick Grayson
Dick Grayson is eerily silent when he’s angry, which feels almost uncharacteristic for him. Instead of letting his emotions out, he broods and intentionally withdraws, refusing to give his attention to those he’s upset with. He bottles everything up until it inevitably explodes, leading to messy arguments that often leave everyone involved feeling emotionally drained.
The worst part is when he smiles—because it’s not the playful grin everyone’s used to. It’s chilling. That’s when you know he’s on the edge. It’s a warning, and if you push him past that, he can raise his voice in a way that cuts through the air—loud, rough, and sharp.
Dick’s also got a sailor’s mouth when he’s truly frustrated. If you push him far enough, he’ll swear like nobody’s business. It’s best to give him space when he’s like this, because the storm has already started, and there’s no telling when it’ll pass.
Jason Todd:
Depending on the situation, Jason Todd is the kind of person who’ll laugh when you cry. It’s harsh, but he makes no apologies for it. If you pick a fight with him and start breaking down, he WILL laugh in your face. No sympathy, no remorse—just a bitter kind of humor.
When he’s angry, Jason’s vocabulary becomes a weapon. He swears with precision, using every curse word in the book, and that’s when you’ll see his temper come to life. He’s the type to get right up in your face, towering over you, radiating pure rage. If his face turns red and his hands start shaking, you’d better get out of the room because he’s on the verge of snapping.
Jason’s also a master at reading people. If the fight goes deep enough, he’ll start picking apart your insecurities, one by one, with cold, brutal efficiency. The longer you push, the more he’ll dig in and exploit your weaknesses.
And, unsurprisingly, Jason’s a screamer. When he’s angry, he doesn’t bottle things up like Dick—he’ll let you know exactly how he feels, right then and there. His emotions are raw and explosive, and he won’t hesitate to unleash them on whoever’s unfortunate enough to be in his path.

Suspension with no pay is a generous punishment, given how severely Dick knocks another officer's lights out. He's lucky no charges will be pressed. His 'colleague' probably isn't keen to air the dirty details of his provocations to the police commissioner; to have them put on paper.
Dick isn't too eager to discuss it, either. Just thinking of it tests his temper and his resolve not to tear through the precinct to the infirmary the bastard hides away in; to grab him by the collar of his uniform again and wail on him for being a sick fuck.
Gordon wants an explanation. Because he knows Dick. Because he knows Dick doesn't do shit like this without reason.
Dick keeps his mouth shut. He sets his jaw, clenches his teeth. He wants to scream, but he swallows it down. Looks just over Gordon's head instead, and waits to be dismissed.
He takes his punishment. He slams the door on his way out.
The only thing he wants is to go home, but he doesn't want to bring his bad mood past the threshold. So Dick sits outside, back to the wall, and makes himself breathe.
His knuckles are still red and swollen, but they'll bruise in the coming hours. He picks at split skin, smudging away blood that beads up.
There’s no cleaning up the mess he is, so Dick settles in. Dropping his head back against the wall beside the door. Breathing. Meditating. Glaring off at nothing as he sits, stews, and broods. Hands clenching periodically because he still wants to hit something.
Someone, specifically. Because Dick wasn’t done fucking them up before other officers stormed in to intervene. Alerted by shouts and familiar sounds of a scuffle. Baffled, probably, that good boy Dick Grayson can lose it worse than any of them ever could.
So Dick sits there. For a long time, until he feels numb. Until he can compartmentalize and put all his anger and irritation and hurt behind him. Because he’s not bringing it home.
Not this.
Not with Jason there.
Jason who, after some hours, comes up the stairs and startles at the sight of Dick sitting just outside their flat, quiet and unnaturally still.
Jason who sees the damage to Dick’s hands and the storminess to his expression with just a quick glance, and who takes that ugliness in stride and sits beside it anyway. Because it’s Dick.
Somehow it’s both easier and harder to breathe with Jason there beside him.
Mercifully, Jason doesn't pry. Not yet. He just sits there with Dick, quietly shuffling through the mail he must have grabbed on his way up. Ads, bills, notices.
It's so normal, so mundane that Dick feels winded by it. The easy slope of Jason's shoulders, the quiet contentment in his expression. They're outside their flat, sorting through mail; when they go inside, they'll debate on eating in, going out. They'll talk casework, get distracted by their own banter. They'll go on patrol, come home and tend each other's hurts. And they'll go to sleep together, same as any other day. One of many.
Fuck. Dick looks skyward. Blinks. Breathes.
Then he turns to look down at that pile of mail. Distracts himself with the cluttered ad that shows deals at a nearby grocery that Jason scans and scoffs at or stops to consider.
'Are you happy?'
'Depends who won the fight.' Is the cheeky reply.
Dick snorts, but doesn't comment. Doesn't trust his voice, or what words might pour out of him. Despite the lack of bruises anywhere but along his knuckles, Dick doesn't doubt it looks like he's the one that got fucked up.
Apt. Because to Jason, Dick doesn't look upset - he seems hurt.
And Jason isn't going to badger Dick. Or chide him. He trusts Dick's judgment, his reasoning, even if Jason likes to be contrary and challenge Dick at every turn.
But he's a Robin at heart, always curious. And he's also a street kid in soul, nosy because intel is an invaluable resource. He's also Jason, who worries even if he's prickly about it.
'Must've been fucked to get under your skin so bad.'
The words are there, but they're ugly. Dick swallows them down and deflects:
'Got suspended.'
'With pay?'
'Without.'
'How long?'
'A week.'
Jason clicking his tongue and scoffing about it, but he doesn't care about the lost income. It's a line of questioning to gauge the severity of the fight.
When Jason asks about on a scale of Damian to Jason, how mad will B be about it, Dick can't help the quiet laugh that bubbles up in him. He considers, then shrugs, 'Tim levels, maybe?'
Jason sitting with that, puzzling it over until something seems to click and he grimaces. Because, 'what the fuck would you be fighting over me for?'
Dick can't talk about it: about how an officer implicated themselves in the solicitation of a 'back alley whore,' a child, at the time. Provoked by the picture Dick keeps of Jason as his lock screen. Unable to resist the temptation of mocking, ridiculing Dick 'perfect golden boy' Grayson by going after his boyfriend, 'How much is that running you? Used to be dirt cheap, back in the day.' , 'Gotham's sloppiest seconds, or mine at least. Does he still cry pretty when you--?' Etc. Etc.
So maybe Jason figures it out for himself and makes an accurate guess. Because since Jason came back, he hasn't dealt with the police in any notable way. Not as a civilian, at least.
Jason would know that if someone saw Dick's lock screen and talked shit about Jason's appearance or other superficial bullshit, Dick wouldn't be so quiet about it. He'd be ranting and raving, incensed because he insists Jason is handsome, gorgeous (and it's sweet, because Jason isn't anything to write home about; a fun fight to provoke, some days, if only because Dick gets so up in arms over it).
And if it's not anything to do with present!Jason, that only leaves all the shit of his past, which is...
They haven't talked about it. Jason doesn't doubt that Dick knows, it's just - Jason doesn't want to talk about it.
Just Jason recognizing Dick's kindnesses for what they are. How Dick defended him. How he hurt enough for him that Dick risks it all. And then he comes home and waits outside because he won't bring that anger home like Jason's dad would. And he goes so far as to bite his tongue because he won't corner Jason into talking about shit he doesn't want to.
Just Jason, breathing steady and changing the topic entirely: 'I'm happy.' So happy. Happier than he's ever been. It's jarring, sometimes, how happy he is. Because there was a time when he didn't think he'd be allowed it. But here he is. With Dick. At their flat; a shoddy home, but theirs. Where they'll make dinner together and complain about romance not existing in the kitchen, get outta my way )< ; and where they'll talk circles around case work before they start bantering, gossiping, laughing. And where they'll leave for patrol but still flirt over comms and come back and hide their hurts only for the other to poke at them because they know. And they'll sleep. And it's warm. And of course Jason is happy.
It's a simple life, but it's theirs.
Oh, Jason looking at Dick's bruised hands and feeling overwhelmed at just how happy he is - to be loved and cared for so much. ;////////;
Getting all bashful as he tells Dick again, 'I'm really...really happy.'
And because it feels a little too heavy, a little too raw, Jason would cough and deflect in his own way. Grumbling because, 'Would've been happier with an expulsion, but...' Shrug.
Dick laughing under his breath. Taking the out. 'On my way. It was a 'formal reprimand'.'
Then Jason snickers because, 'Could I give you more names? Speed up the process.'
Which oops. Too dark, too soon. But after the initial grimace is a brittle laugh because wow.
Then something something Jason standing up and offering Dick a hand to pull him up, too. And they go about their routine. When Dick settles down, Jason starts prompting for details on the fight. How fucked was the officer's face? How many men did it take to tear Dick away from him? (♡ˊ͈ ꒳ ˋ͈)
Dick teasing him about it sounding like Jason likes that Dick lost his shit. And Jason owns up to it fully. Of course he likes it; it was for him. (ᴗ͈ˬᴗ͈)ꕤ.゚
Jason makes it easier for Dick by teasing him about it. Taking some of the weight away from it. Because this is how they look after each other. ♡
