🔥 hm okay I rly want to know what you think abt social media (in general- not just fandom)

it's doubtless that they've created problems for people, like the lowered attention spans, the way they're used for propaganda and scams in novel new ways, the radicalisation etc, but it's pointless and sanctimonious to go like omg those YouNg PeOplE with their SoCiaL MeDia. it's like saying omg those young people and their video games. there's never going to be a world where social media no longer exists now, short of the world wide web catching a new millennium bug and going offline forever. it's just that education about it, regulations for it, haven't entirely caught up with this truth and many people haven't quite managed to move past the "this is a malady" stage of things.

My thoughts: I kinda hesitate to rec this because. Look. I know nothing about Game of Thrones or the Ice and Fire book or whatever. But! This fic!! I really liked it. Idk shit. Cannot speak to characterization. Could be good. Could be terrible. But the story itself was good. Or maybe I shouldn't just read any fic with a time travel tag idk.

Anon, I must admit that I rarely consider Findis at all.

I do have a vague (and second- or third-hand) impression that one of Finwe's rationales to remarry was because he had a son but no daughters. And based on that I would project at least Feanor's emotional trajectory as:

All-consuming bitterness about them having any children, cognitively because they bought their child with Miriel's live and subconsciously because if Finwe can replace Miriel then logic dictates that Feanor himself is replaceable-- and then

The kind of bitterness that'a self-loathing he can't even look at head-on, because Indis survives and what does that say about Feanor, about Miriel-- and then

Thank goodness it's a girl and Finwe finally has his daughter and there's no need for them to have more kids. Feanor can share with a (half) sister. That's bearable. That's limited. He can work with a sister. Maybe some day he could love a--

Hii! Just a quick question. In a tempest, how did Visenya die and why did she die in King's Landing instead of the widely believed Dragonstone?? Love your stories!

Haha the question that I actually sketched out a whole aspect of a tempest for, only to never dive into it! I'm glad someone asked me abt it finally!!!

So the idea is that ghosts can traverse wherever they die. The issue is that the definition of where changes from person to person. Let's say that Lyarra Stark dies in Winterfell. Did she die in the master bedroom, the north wing, Winterfell (the castle), Winterfell (the region), the North, or Westeros? The answer, of course, is all of the above. But how Lyarra defines it is what matters.

It's why Willam and Artos are separated for eternity: Artos thinks his place of death is inside Winterfell, and Willam thinks his place of death is outside of Winterfell. It's also why Willam can walk through the North, but never set foot within the castle, while Lyarra (who thinks she died in Winterfell (the region)) can go from indoors to outside with no issue.

Visenya died upon Dragonstone, physically, but her definition of where she died is, "away from her sister and brother." It's why she is never portrayed within the throne room of the Red Keep (ostensibly where Aegon's ashes were once scattered), and cannot go herself to Dorne (where she believes Rhaenys to be) but can travel between Dragonstone and King's Landing with no problems.
