are female characters devoid of complex characterization, or do you not afford female characters the same depth and complexity that you afford the guys? are female characters badly-written compared to men, or do you focus on the guys regardless of writing quality? are the female characters simply less interesting than the men, or do you think men are more interesting than women?

for a while i was saying spirited away was overrated and not even the best ghibli nyehh but ive been thinking about it and i think it might be one of the greatest films ever made. it has weirdly impeccable & airtight screenwriting for a miyazaki, i don't think there's a scene that doesn't move the plot forward in some important way or develop the broader themes. i get why its the one that crossed over, like its surreal and abstract but the plot outline is just a million bucks
#my favorite Miyazaki film is Nausicaa because I like the worldbuilding#spirited away is my third favorite after princess mononoke#(I know nausicaa technically predates the formation of ghibli)#spirited away has the strongest individual scenes for me. like every moment is so evocative and engrossing#but overall I don't understand spirited away. it doesn't feel like it has a satisfying conclusion to me#text post

I can't wait to punch up this video essay a bit bc like.
Why do so many queer folks think "cis boys with gynecomastia" 1. Were not studied like lab rats by John Money as hermaphrodites 2. Would all want their tits removed because they all are binary cis guys, ignoring that most of them are 15 and are riding the waves of peer pressure and pressure from every aspect of society to not be intersex
River Gallo, Salvadoran filmmaker, actor, and intersex activist, was born with a penis but no testicles. As a kid, they were told they'd have prosthetic testicles implanted to help them appear more like an average male. As a teen, the surgery happened. I can only assume that, at the time, they sort of went along with it and agreed that it'd help them, because they were raised being told "You are wrong but this will fix you." I also agreed to shit as a teen under that pressure.
Nowadays, River presents their gender like this and feels upset and violated that they were pressured into a surgery they never wanted nor needed:
So when you're talking about "cis boys with gynecomastia" getting surgeries they "wanted" as teens, you're reinforcing systemic intersexism AND transphobia. Why assume all of these kids would be cis in the end? Why assume all cis people wouldn't be okay with their sex not conforming? I'm literally in that latter group and I was forced onto sex normalizing hormones as a teen that I consented to under coercion. Why is systemic intersexism reinforced within the queer community?
Why the fuck do trans people especially keep saying "cis boys with gynecomastia" like. Say intersex. It's not a dirty word. And given around 40% of all intersex respondents to a Trevor Project survery were cis (meaning 60% weren't cis) yall are really fucking up by saying shit like that.

Would ya look at that, my post on Luigi Mangione is doing numbers. I'm glad to see so many people agree with me! Honestly, it does me good to see such an outpouring of public wrath against the parasitic health insurance industry over the last week. But you know what would do me even better?
Civic action.
If all we do is sit around and post memes, jack fucking shit will happen. A single assassination is scary for a moment, but if nothing happens afterwards, then it means nothing.
Y'know what's really scary? Thousands and thousands of people yelling DEFEND DENY DEPOSE on the National Mall. Vigils held in front of health insurance companies where attendees recite their stories of preventable death and bankruptcy. Every Congressperson getting their lines and mail flooded with anger all at once.
I don't know why none of the healthcare advocacy groups are leaping on this; I assume no one wants to be associated with an assassin. Personally, I think the opposite. I think we need to remind the top .001% that the alternative to peaceful reform is violence. And if existing structures won't support us in these efforts, then we need to make our own.
I'll be frank, I have no experience in organizing these kinds of protests. I've done quite a few marches in my time, knocked on doors, made phone calls, the works, but I've never been in charge. I have ADHD, for chrissakes, organization is not my strong suit. Still, someone needs to start this conversation.
So what are our next steps? Who here is willing to march? Who has experience planning protests? What do we need to do to make these things happen? What organizations will support our efforts? What kind of demands should we make?

How many raccoons do you take care of total? Also is having a pet raccoon a good idea or no?
Tomorrow I have to go pick up 8 more raccoons, which should bring the total to uhh… 23? 23 raccoons? I think? But I’ll just have the 8 in my house.
As for is having a pet raccoon a good idea, no. Absolutely not. A massive portion of the work I do is trying to “deinfluence ” people from getting pet raccoons.
Like first off, unless you are a rescue, there isn’t a way to get one that is both legal and ethical. There are USDA raccoon breeders, but every single one of them is shady and is literally a raccoon mill.
Second, they need very specialized care that 99.9% of people are not qualified to provide. Just look at all of the people with morbidly obese pet raccoons on TikTok. That is the #1 way you can tell someone does not have the qualifications to possess a raccoon. Raccoons need specialized diets and big enclosures and lots and lots of enrichment.
Third, raccoons are rabies vector species. Meaning if they bite someone besides you, it is over for them. They can be put down instantly and you can’t do anything. Also, if you go out of town, who will watch them? They live like 20 years.
Fourth, they are literally dangerous. I’m not being hyperbolic, raccoons are dangerous. If you are not a professional who knows how to work with them and can read their body language and know what they want and what they don’t, they can easily put you in the hospital. If you do not “speak raccoon” so to say, you have no business keeping a raccoon.
Anyway yeah, TLDR it’s a bad idea

Most anime: The popular girl fell for the nerdy guy because it turns he has a heart of gold, which she really likes. The nerd melted the popular girl’s icy heart. Even though no one noticed him, she always noticed him. There was just something about the nerdy guy that made the popular girl fall in love with him. Even though the nerdy guy just played video games and kept to themselves most of the time, the popular girl fell for him because he was nice to her once.
DanDaDan: The popular girl falls for the nerdy guy because she’s a fucking weirdo too. Even the main female protagonist is weird af. All the main characters are weird.

Once presenting itself as one of the world’s most welcoming countries to refugees and immigrants, Canada is launching a global online ad campaign cautioning asylum-seekers that making a claim is hard. The C$250,000 ($178,662) in advertisements will run through March in 11 languages, including Spanish, Urdu, Ukrainian, Hindi and Tamil, the immigration department told Reuters. They are part of a broader shift in tone by Prime Minister Justin Trudeau’s unpopular government on immigration and an effort to clamp down on refugee claims. Migrants have been blamed for high housing prices, although some experts argue this is a simplistic explanation, and polls show a growing number of Canadians think the country admits too many newcomers.
