Dialogue Prompt

"Why do I always need to save you?" the villain huffed from behind the chained hero.

"Oh, good, you're here. Thank you so much for arriving on time when I called. It's not like I'm strapped to a bomb."

"Oh, calm down. We both know I'm not going to let that thing detonate."

Rincewind gaped. For once, his cowardly instincts were failing him. Rooted to the spot, he stared up at the creature, all tentacles and teeth and eyes and violence and hunger.

And he felt a hand on his shoulder.

"Is it finally time?" He asked in a mumble, not looking around. He already knew who it was.

IT DOES NOT HAVE TO BE.

The world was tinged with octarine. Time was slowed to a crawl. Rincewind turned to look at Death. "You used to be a lot more enthusiastic about this kind of thing," he ventured.

Death only looked him in the eyes briefly before turning his attention to the creature. Rincewind tilted his head, confused. "So... what happens now?" To his surprise, Death drew his sword and stepped toward the monster.

NOW IT SHALL BE AS IT ALWAYS HAS BEEN. YOU SHALL RUN, AND YOU SHALL LIVE. AT LEAST A LITTLE LONGER.

"Can these things even die?"

I AM CURIOUS TO FIND OUT.

Character A gets hurt and thinks they'll be abandoned for it, but isn't directly stating it. Character B is trying to get them medical help, even as Character A is urging them to just leave already.
