trying to behave (kanato x maya modern college au)
summary: what a bad girl she was, longing for a boy that would never be hers... or not? (side story of this headcanon)
tropes: parents are friends, childhood friends, college dates, modern au lovers, trial dating, slowburn, eventual smut, sexual innuendos, college lovers
mentions: nsfw (you are warned)
a/n: bcos ariana's fantasize got me in a chokehold and I thought it would initially remind me of ayayui until I realized this is definitely kanatoxmaya in modern college au

As a budding 14-year-old, Maya wanted nothing but the attention of a certain Sakamaki. You know, the middle triplet.
And it sounds so baffling because she could've gone for the older, quiet one who logs around like a bear or the one with nerdy, hot glasses who speaks so fluently like butter spread on toast, but no. She had to go for the hysterical, temperamental, moody, sassy, childish Sakamaki who only attends his father's parties because there's an assortment of sweets on this one table and he'll do nothing but grab his own plate, stack it up with sweets, and munch away in one corner. Maya never bothered to disturb him because she watched one girl try to flirt with him, and the next thing, he was lashing at her like there was no tomorrow.
So Maya has decided since then, I will not make a move on him, ever. Like ever. Never ever. If he likes me, then good. If not, then still good. Chant the mantra like magic. Rinse. Repeat.
But being in love means being foolish because poor Maya would entertain some guys who would try to date her because she's rich and capable until she finds herself looking at Kanato from across the room either talking sweetly and sneakily to this one girl he's been holding hands with all afternoon. Worse, he would glance in her direction and almost catch her staring and she would scold herself mentally for this shameless behavior.
And this went on for six years. Maya swore sometimes she was going crazy at the fact that she imagined herself as the girl he'd been with in broad daylight, wishing she could meet his gaze and kiss his lips in private because Maya had a hunch Kanato would take things further somewhere no one could see.
Every day was a frustrating struggle, boys dropping by, exchanging pleasantries, boys leaving her alone, but she still longed for Kanato and she witnessed how he changed girls discreetly. She reminds herself of her old mantra because she was becoming insane at the mere idea of her falling so hard for him.
This is unbecoming. This is not like you, Maya!
But as if she took her own advice. Every night, she would dream of him hovering on top of her, his fingers tracing the part between her collarbones until it reached down the space between her breasts. He would smirk in her ear, telling her how foolish she was. I'm dating someone, you know. It's okay, I don't mind. Because she was an idiot who opened her legs easily just because there was some sort of magnetic pull he was doing.
And she imagined him making love to her, being rough yet gentle and needy as they cling to each other. He would moan her name because she thinks he loves her like that. Ah, she wanted things to be like this. Only if he was hers because she had always been his since the beginning.
She imagined him to be the type to leave hickeys everywhere, but only in areas no one would see. He liked claiming what was his, and she was no exception. Afterward, she would arch her back wantonly, embracing him until morning.
And then she would wake up with a red face, her panties wet, hair disheveled, and nightgown rising to her stomach.
Oh dear. This is bad.
-x-x-x-x-x-x-x-
"You like him, don't cha?" Ayato teased one time, dropping by the university cafe to specifically look for her and confirm his suspicions because he is so perceptive and smartass like that. Pft. What an Ore-sama.
"So what?" Maya shot back because she had nothing to deny. It's not as if she wants Kanato to date her (of course, she secretly wants it but it's not like she'll die if he doesn't).
"Kanato's single right now." Ayato intentionally wanted her to know because he was sick and tired of his brother being a prickly gremlin towards girls. Plus, he had already witnessed Maya giving Kanato this longing, lovesick expression for years now.
Until one day—
"Let's go on a trial date, Maya-san," Kanato said so casually because he believed his word was so absolute like that.
And trial date they did. Everything was going so well until Kanato decided not to talk to her anymore. Maya still tried to argue with Kanato about why he was ignoring her.
"IT'S ALL YOUR FAULT! YOU TOLD THAT GUY AT THE TRAIN STATION YOU DON'T HAVE A BOYFRIEND!"
"W-WHA—HOW DID YOU—BUT I REALLY DON'T HAVE A BOYFRIEND!"
"BUT YOU SAID YOU LIKE ME!"
Maya blushed at that. Of course, she likes him, duh! But she needed to focus on the matter at hand.
"I LIKE YOU, AND I STILL DO. BUT AS LONG AS WE ARE NOT DATING, THEN I DON’T HAVE A BOYFRIEND, OKAY? SO CAN YOU PLEASE JUST—"
"AH! MOU! WHY DON'T YOU USE YOUR HEAD FOR ONCE?! I LIKE YOU! I LIKE YOU! I LIKE YOU, OKAY?! SO THE NEXT TIME SOMEONE ASKS YOU OUT, PLEASE TELL THEM YOU'RE UNAVAILABLE!"
"WHAT DO YOU MEAN YOU LIKE ME—"
And here they were, cooling off the steam by kissing each other with all the pent-up emotions they'd been having. It wasn't like how she imagined their kiss to be. It was sweet and romantic, but it was full of passion and danger, a darkness that could swallow her whole.
It took Kanato a few seconds to strip her from her clothes, her eyes widening at the fact that he could unhook her bra just like that. And he kissed her again, holding her face in his hands because he really wanted to savor her taste and make sure she was there. Then he pulled away for a moment when her back hit the mattress, taking off his clothes so he could get this thing over once and for all.
Maya swallowed in anticipation, her eyes tracing his body. Of course, Kanato isn't as muscular as his brothers since he has this lanky build but she could still make out a few muscles from his arms and a tiny hint of abs from his waist.
How did he manage to have this type of body by just eating sweets and locking himself in his room all day?
Kanato leaned towards her, his face dangerously close. "Liking what you see, hm?" he smirked evilly, chuckling as she tried to hide her face with her hands. "Speaking of which, you do that all the time you know."
Maya narrowed her eyes in confusion. "What do you mean?"
"I always catch you staring at me, in case you're wondering."
She sat up in shock, instantly covering her body with the sheets as her mind reeled in all the moments she'd been watching him. And when she looked at him again, he only added, "Don't look at me like that. I only realized it just now."
Kanato slowly removed the sheets from her body, setting her down again and pinning her arms with one hand. There was a glint of mischief in his eyes.
"You've been doing that ever since we were 14, weirdo," he informed, witnessing how her chest would breathe up and down because she was trying to calm herself. "I've always wondered why you do... until I realized everything during the first time you said you like me."
Maya looked away from him, her face and body betraying her as he nuzzled his face down her neck.
"I wonder what things I'm doing to you in your imagination."
Now that made her stare back at him, feeling naked under his gaze because nothing escapes him. Of course, he's Kanato Sakamaki. His words are absolute. She might be foolish then for having these intimate delusions, but she's more foolish now that she's getting exposed in front of him.
"Say, Maya-san..."
He props back up, opens her legs wide, and readies himself to enter her.
"Let's find that out, shall we?"

Idc anymore. I can't believe i actually wrote something like this in a few minutes. 👐🏻
Maybe sometimes it's just that when 'crazy' things like this happen, you feel the need to grab pen and paper, until you feel like you've given every ounce of inspiration you can spare.
It is the first time that i share a piece of my writing here, i hope with all my heart that you guys enjoy it —despite the fact that it is really short— and as always i send you all a warm hug, blessings. ♡ 𝐑𝐎𝐌𝐀𝐍𝐓𝐈𝐂.
Ayato Sakamaki.
Male reader.
Warnings: None! ☆

I was daydreaming or, something like that.
Actually, I was more asleep than awake. Well, I could hardly open my eyes between the darkness, my bed and laziness.
It's just that for a moment, I could feel that you had me between your twisted smile and a hug, your lap as well as something of me.
I had part of my cheek against your shoulder, blind up to the nose, listening to how you laughed in the craziest way, full of grace; as noisy as sinic.
That voice sweetens my senses beyond power, melts me between your rigid form and puts me at the mercy of those greedy green eyes.
Saying: “Hey, are you going to sleep on?” with the taste of his words at the tip of his mouth to the malice in his chest.
“Heh, I see. It's okay, you can keep resting, but then you'll have to do something for me”.
The paleness of his hands was incomparable to anything else I could ever feel, today or tomorrow, tomorrow or in a year...
Red hair that was nothing more than yours in the clothes and your perfume embedded even behind the ears.
That's when I realized how much I needed you, how much I loved you, and how bad your memory has done to my mind. Every night that I can't sleep, you will be guilty that your fangs remain impregnated in my face,
in my skin
and soul,
all yours.

// Just a fun little prompt for DiaLover artists/writers! I’m going to try and do it since I wanted to have something DL-related for gore/inktober this year! It’s vague enough (hopefully) so you can go in any direction for each prompt, and it’s non-specific so you can write something for it, engage in a prompt for rp, or even draw for it!!
// If you do use this, please tag me! I’d love to see your creations! No pressure to go the whole month doing this either! Engage whenever/however you want!

Could you imagine taking Reiji or Shu to a human party for the first time. Actually getting drunk and them loosening up, I think it would be adorable if he ended up with lipstick covered cheeks because you couldn't keep your hands off of him....now I wanna write that.

Diabolik Lovers: Camp Stoker (Midnight Horrors 2024) 🥀
Tumblr media
Prompt: Camp Horror
Inspiration: Friday the 13th
WARNING: This contains blood, violence, gore, and death
This is my entry for @diabolik-lovers-weekly's "Midnight Horrors" challenge. I thought that it would be fitting to try and do a reimagining of the horror classic "Friday the 13th". If you haven't seen the original, then know that this will contain spoilers for it, but if you're someone who doesn't care about spoilers, then feel free to go ahead and read it. And another thing, this takes more inspiration from the 2009 remake.
——————————————————————————
Camp Stoker, 19XX
As the rain pelted down on the earth violently, a poor counselor ran through the dark forest that was near the camp, doing her best to not slip in the mud and let her pursuer catch her.
If she did, then it was over.
However, the counselor was forced to stop herself as she noticed a rather large lake in front of her. Its reach was far and wide, and unfortunately for her, the canoes were missing the paddles, meaning that she was stranded unless she found one in time or managed to find a quick short cut.
'Please God, I don't want to-'
Snap!
"!" The counselor was broken out of her panicked thoughts when the sound of a twig breaking was heard. The poor girl looked over her shoulder to see the one who was chasing and tormenting her all this time: the deranged looking Christa Sakamaki, who was welding a silver knife in her pale right hand.
"P-Please, Mrs. Sakamaki, just let me go!" the counselor practically screamed. "I won't tell anybody that it was you! I just want to-"
"How. . . .HOW COULD YOU?!" the woman named Christa Sakamaki shouted, silencing the frightened and injured blonde haired counselor.
"My poor Subaru. . . .he drowned in the lake because of you and those. . . .those foolish idiots! Instead of doing your jobs, you all left to 'fool around' like deviant w*****! YOU SHOULD HAVE BEEN WATCHING HIM!" Christa yelled, tears escaping her red eyes as she leapt at the young woman.
The counselor unfortunately knew what Christa was referring to: a year ago, Christa's six year old son had gone to the camp with his older half brothers for a summer of fun. He unfortunately was the only of the Sakamakis to have not gone back home on the final day of camp. Because of this, Christa and her husband, the politician Tougo Sakamaki, tried to get the camp shut down, but were unable to do so, thus leading to Christa taking matters into her own hands and this moment.
The counselor was able to dodge in time, causing the pale woman to land in the mud as a result. The counselor turned back and made a dash back to the now evacuated Camp Stoker, as Christa had brutally slaughtered the other counselors she deemed responsible for her son's death.
The poor blonde had managed to get into an empty cabin and close the door in time, making Christa shout in anger as she banged on the door violently. The counselor looked around the cabin and after seeing a machete, which belonged to one of the older employees.
Glad that she had a weapon to defend herself with, the counselor quickly grabbed the machete and as soon as she heard the door to the cabin slam open and Christa's scream, the counselor swung the machete with all of the strength she could muster.
She felt that was effective in what she had hope to accomplish: incapacitating Christa and giving her enough time to call the police. It wasn't until she heard a gurgling sound and what may have been the sound of flesh being pierced.
"?"
The counselor opened her eyes to see that she had unintentionally decapitated Christa, whose head was now lying on the bloody wooden floor, next to her motionless body.
'D-Did I. . . .Did I actually-'
Before she could fully process what happened, the sound of police sirens and the paramedics arriving outside the camp. Someone had entered the cabin, though the counselor wasn't sure who it was as she was still in shock with what happened.
Officers and medical professionals did their best to get her to speak about what happened, though not a single one was successful. As they got the girl into the ambulance, not a single one of the officers and medics noticed a white haired boy watching from the bushes.
.
.
.
.
Subaru wasn't really sure what happened to him a year ago. One minute he was swimming with his brother Shuu, and the next he ended up on the shore of a lake that was far from the camp.
Fortunately for him, the red eyed boy knew some survival tactics that helped him survive, what helped him continue to go on was the hope that his family, particularly his mother, were out there looking for him and that he'd be home again.
But that was in the beginning, back when he wasn't as thin, dirty, and angry. His anger was especially flared up right now.
Subaru was nearby when he heard the all too familiar sound of his mother's voice. He attempted to get her attention when he reached the camp, only to watch her get beheaded by one of the counselors.
Naturally, he feared for his life, so Subaru hid when he heard the sirens from the distance. And while everyone was distracted, Subaru had snuck into the cabin and took his mother's decapitated head and the silver knife that she was wielding and snuck out back into the woods.
Subaru had taken the head of his mother to a nearby cave, where he silently wept for what felt to be hours.
He wasn't sure when it happened, but over time, he heard her voice again. She was telling him that they deserved to be punished for what they did to her and him.
.
.
.
.
Present Day. . . .
Counselor Yui Komori was looking after the other campers when she heard one of them telling some of the younger kids the local legend Subaru Sakamaki, a mysterious and silent killer who was said to have slaughtered several counselors as revenge for letting him drown as a child and for the death of his mother, with his first victim being the one who beheaded his mother a year after the incident took place, which of course scared the young ones.
Yui herself was what one would call a skeptic. She never believed in stories about vampires, werewolves, ghouls, and other supernatural entities.
After telling the older campers to leave the younger ones alone, Yui went to go get one of the campers a water bottle because she was thirsty, however, as she was returning back to the camp fire, she thought she saw a white haired youth wearing a red plaid button shirt and jeans, but what caught her attention was that the youth was wearing a hockey mask that was completely covering his face. And in his right hand? A machete.
Yui's face turned white when she realized that his appearance matched the description of Subaru Sakamaki. But there was no way that that was actually him, right? He was just a local legend. There's no way that this was real! It had to be one of the other counselors pulling a prank!
But before she could get confirmation, one of the kids let out a little yelp, startling Yui. And as soon as her eyes turned to a different direction, the masked individual disappeared just as quickly as he appeared. . . .
——————————————————————————
In my honest opinion, I don't think I did a very good job with writing this. Sorry if it feels rushed.

this was supposed to be on kanato's bday but here goes nothing~ and yes this is dedicated to @hgug255
BONUS CHAP: hidden in a maze, wrapped around petals (Diabolik Lovers x Game of Thrones AU)
pairing: kanato x maya (my oc) [note: I used Maya's real first name here since it fits the au more]
STORY MASTERLIST
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
King's Landing has been in a festive mode because of the triplets' name days, and what way to celebrate their birth by rejoicing in their glorious feats and proudly speaking of their prowess as Karlheinz's sons?
How ridiculous, Kanato thought sitting by the staircase and watching how these people bark a laugh every now and then and make merry to one another. They did not come for our birthday. They came for the honor of their house and the blessing of our father.
It wasn't anything new for him, to be honest. After all, the three of them never delighted in these occasions. While their parents would force them to greet their guests and exchange a few pleasantries, they would still go on their way to avoid these events as much as possible. And thankfully, Kanato can hide by the staircase to just observe people.
Ever since he got his powers, he's seen everyone's past and future, which caused him anxiety and dread. Hence, he resolved it by sitting in one corner, minding his own business so he could hear no one.
Kanato sighed, his eyes bored, clutching Teddy to his chest and wishing the party would just end so he can lock himself up in his room and take a rest from all these things happening lately around him.
Parties.
War.
Mind games.
Peace treaties.
Deaths.
I've had enough.
"K-Kanato-sama," a feminine voice squeaked in fright, fully aware that the middle triplet was someone you should never bother during events like this.
He sighed in frustration, glaring at the poor maid. Why can't anyone just leave him alone? "What is it?"
"S-Someone left a note for you," the maid explained, handing the piece of paper to him. "S-S-She said you need to read it immediately."
Kanato narrowed his eyes at that, snatching the paper from the maid as she frantically left before he raised hell. Sighing, he unfolded the paper and read the contents, only to be surprised at what he read:
"Meet me at the garden.
- Mariya."
And so he left Teddy by the pillar and rushed towards the castle's garden maze, confused and enthusiastic at the fact that his fiancee decided to meet him in secret. Truth be told, the Feinze clan is notorious for its strict wedding traditions. During the long period of engagement, the bride wasn't allowed to meet the groom outside the Feinze castle premises until they get married. After all, the clan believes that the gods will punish those who defy these traditions.
Hence, Kanato spent his time going back and forth to meet Mariya. They would even go as far as to send each other letters, especially whenever he's travelling somewhere away from King's Landing.
Furthermore, the groom was not allowed to see the face of the bride until the wedding day. That's why whenever he visits her, there would be a silhouette partition separating them from each other.
And to think she went all the way here from the Highgardens to see me. She must be out of her mind, he thought turning on each and every corner of the garden maze to search for any sign of a smaller girl with long hair and pale skin (this was based on how his advisors described her).
Kanato was running out of patience, cursing to himself as to why Mariya made him run all the way here... until he finally saw her.
She was dressed in their usual Eastern gown and robes, her black hair decorated with red camellia ornaments as it flows down her back. There was a crest of the Feinze house on her belt, probably to make him recognize her in one glance. Nonetheless, Mariya was the epitome of a delicate mysterious lady from the Highgardens, donning a mask on her eyes so she would still retain the secret of her identity to Kanato.
Kanato panted for air, trying to catch his breath as he asked, "Why?"
"I..." she started, her cheeks blushing as she tried to find the words, "I wanted to see you—"
"No," he hissed, waving a dismissive hand. He walked towards her, his face inching closer to see the girl behind the mask as she tried to hide it. "I'm well aware of that fact. I wanted to know why."
"'W-Why?'"
"Why did you defy your house to meet me?" he clarified. "Your house is adamant about following the principles of the God of the Light. Yet, here you are sneaking out to meet me," then he muttered the last words, "and on my name day, nonetheless."
There was a momentary silence before she gained the confidence to speak.
"Your letter," she mentioned, remembering how the words seemed so sad and lonely when she read it. "I received your letter about your name day, and you told me no one has ever come for you and your brothers' name days just to see you."
Kanato's eyes widened in realization. A few days ago, he informed her he wouldn't be visiting her for a while because the House Sakamaki is preparing for their 18th name day, and this event was important because it's their second coming-of-age ceremony after joining the war 10 years ago.
And to think she defied her house—and even the gods—just to see me.
Kanato sighed in frustration. This girl will be the death of me. Then he shrugged. Well, she's already here now. Might as well make the most of it.
"Since you're here, I suppose a reward should be in order," he said, forcing himself to look indifferently even though he was quite happy that someone came specifically for him on his birthday. "I'll give you anything you want for today."
Mariya's red eyes widened in astonishment, seemingly anticipating this moment. "Really?"
"Well, hurry up or I'll change my mind."
Mariya thought for a moment since this was a once-in-a-lifetime request. After all, Kanato wasn't the type of person to let people get close easily. He's always wary of them no matter how nice they are.
After a few minutes, Mariya has now determined the reward she wanted from him, inching her face towards him as her eyes closed, sharp inhale of breath, and then time stopped. Everything was a blur as she laid her lips on top of his, quick like a feather brushing his skin. To say Kanato was surprised is an understatement. He was completely frozen at the gesture.
What in heavens—
Mariya pulled away as fast as she could, embarrassed and blushing at the fact that she made the first move. And she was aware it was unbecoming for a princess like her. After all, she is supposed to be wooed, not to woo a boy who is still thinking about a woman he was previously engaged with.
Kanato clicked his tongue in response, the fleeting kiss still reeling in his mind. "Why did you kiss me?" he asked, sounding a bit annoyed even though he wasn't, not even in the slightest.
"Because... you told me you'll give me anything I want today," she reasoned out like it was plain day.
"But you gave me a kiss, remember?"
"It might look like that, but the point is, you gave me a chance."
He raised a brow at that. "A chance for what?"
"I wanted to have a chance to convey my feelings for you," she started to explain. "I know your mind and heart still belongs to Lady Krestenne," her heart felt like a hard lump at that, "but I wanted you to know that someone attended your name day because they have sworn affection for you, not because you bear your house's name."
There was sincerity and clarity in her words, taking Kanato in a trance of realization.
She embodied the meaning of her name.
True love.
Ah, no wonder why. It fits her perfectly.
"I-Is that okay? Or... was it too forward of me?" Mariya started to panic, thinking things would not end well, and her engagement with the middle triplet might get called off. "I'm so—"
"... enough."
"Eh?"
He stared through her deeply, snaking an arm around her waist and placing one hand on her cheek. She was startled at the contact that she instantly held on his shoulders (soon, she will scold herself for this lack of tact).
"It's not enough."
And he kissed her deeply, memorizing her taste and how their lips molded against each other. His tongue would tease her every now and then, savoring the sweet moment of this bliss they call "love." Kanato knew this was the thing he had wanted for so long.
True, he used to go after Krestenne as she was his first bethroted. But that was then, and this is now. Now is when he was kissing the life out of Mariya.
But Mariya wasn't as experienced as him, trying to regain her breathing, but every time she would pull away, Kanato will just keep coming back for her taste.
More.
His arms are now around her waist as she tangles her fingers in his hair.
MORE.
His lips move down from her lips to her chin, peppering her skin with kisses until his breath ghosted her neck.
MORE.
And ever slowly, Mariya felt his fingers trying to undo the ribbons of her belt, which compelled her to gently push him away and prevent things from going further. There was a dazed and confused look on his face, questioning her motives.
"I... I wanted this as much as you do," she clarified, composing herself despite being a blushing mess. "But... I think this is not the right time."
Kanato was about to retort a childish spat until he finally understood what she meant.
Her family must be looking for her now.
He sighed in frustration. "I'll be visiting you again after a few days."
She nodded, gently taking his hand in hers as she kissed his cheek. "I hope you enjoyed your name day today."

"Oh, Kanato-kun, there you are!" Laito greeted from their shared study room. It has become a habit of the triplets to gather there, especially during big events. "But where have you been though?"
Ayato looked annoyed though, observing as the middle triplet walked towards them like he had done nothing wrong. There was something weird because Ayato saw Teddy by the pillar earlier and Kanato returned from the opposite direction of the hallway.
"The old hag was pissed though, looking everywhere for you so you can grant the guests a song," he informed. "You're lucky 'cause Gramps had to cover for ya."
"Ayato-kun's right, Kanato-kun," Laito chided, looking mischievous as usual so he can get information about his previous whereabouts. "You should thank old Gramps there or you might be in trouble."
"There's no need to worry. I just went somewhere to talk to someone," Kanato explained, not bothering to fill any missing details lest he wanted other people to find out about him and Mariya breaking the strict wedding rules.
"'Someone?'" Laito repeated, aware that their brother is not someone who makes friends that easily. "Is that person a friend?"
Ayato chuckled. "Don't tell me you went out your way here just to get your gift?"
Kanato smirked at him, hugging Teddy close to his chest. "I did."
Both brothers were surprised at that. "Did you like the gift? Laito asked.
Kanato nodded in delight. "Very, very much."

Vale madres.

⚰️ Poisoned Mind ⚰️
((The full fic put together from the Diatober prompts Poison, Possession, Corpse and Insanity for Halloween! TW: blood, knives, death, suicide))
Tumblr media
Sayo stared up at the tree. It wasn’t dying, but it wasn’t blooming either. She wished the whole thing would just wilt already, but apparently she wasn’t that lucky. Although, she was living with the Sakamaki family now, so maybe that was why it was in a state of limbo. But even if there weren’t any actual blossoms on the tree, there was a singular red apple sitting at the base of it. She walked over, fairly curious. She had never seen anything like this before. Who knew if this was the sort of change she wanted to this pavilion.
When she picked up the apple, she noticed that it was rather strange. It seemed to have an unnatural shine to it and was giving off a very sweet scent. There was a strong urge to take a bite, but Sayo managed to resist it. Surely nothing good would come of eating an apple from this pavilion of Eden, where she was supposed to be Eve. And so, she dropped it right back where it was.
“Sayo.”
The voice was quiet, but she still heard whoever it was calling from behind her. She quickly turned around, only to stare in shock at what was behind her.
“S-Shiro…?”
He was standing there, looking exactly as he had before his death. As a kid, he had always looked so strong and confident to her, but now seeing him as a child again, he looked so vulnerable. His expression was consumed with anxiety.
“You’re going to die in that house!”
“What? Why would you-?!”
Before she could even finish her sentence, he was gone as suddenly as he had appeared. Instead, he was replaced with someone else. She stared at the empty space where he had been, unaware that there was a figure behind her.
“You there…” the figure whispered, although it sounded as if it had come from all sides of her instead of directly behind.
She glanced around in confusion, anxiety settling within her. When she finally turned back to the tree, she saw the shadowy figure standing there, watching her. She could tell it was a woman with long hair, but nothing else about her. The woman was holding the apple that had been sitting on the ground a few moments ago.
“Take it,” she held it out for Sayo. “It will help you.”
Shiro had just warned her that she was in danger. Nothing like this had ever happened before. There was no way she could trust this woman.
“No.”
The woman frowned. The apple was meant to be a temptation, so how was Sayo able to resist the urge to take a bite? If she was Eve, she should have taken it when she first saw it.
“What a stubborn child,” the woman laughed lightly before disappearing.
Sayo didn’t have the time to even let her guard down. Within seconds, the woman had grabbed her from behind. All Sayo could see were piercing green eyes as the woman shoved the apple as far into her mouth as it would go.
“You shouldn’t be here,” the woman giggled. “I can’t allow those three to be happy after what they did to me.”
The apple began to liquify in her mouth. It was as if it was rotting. Both the taste and smell were absolutely revolting. She was definitely going to vomit. The woman let her go once the entire apple had rotted into that horrid black substance. Sayo fell to the ground as the woman continued to laugh at her.
Sayo shot up from her bed. The taste and smell of whatever the hell that apple had become was still there. She immediately doubled over the side of the bed, throwing up blood mixed with black sludge.
After a few minutes of violent retching, Sayo suddenly sat up straight. Her eyes were glazed over, her mind hazy for a moment….until she was no longer in control of what she was doing. Her hand reached into the pocket of her shorts before pulling out the knife that was always concealed there. She flipped it open with ease as she got out of bed. Her blank eyes stared at the blade for a moment before putting it back in her pocket.
There was no way she could stay in the most obvious place the girl would be found. She left the room, slowly making her way down the hall. She needed to find the least likely place those boys would find her.
Laito stared into the water from the fountain. It was a rather cold night, but he couldn’t bring himself to go inside. He had a gut feeling something important was waiting for him out here. Something was off….he just couldn’t tell what. And so, he continued to watch the water, as if that would give him some answers. Maybe it did, in a way. After a while, he spotted a figure in the distance through the falling stream.
Sayo was staring at him from the entrance of the nearby path that went deeper into the rose garden. Her expression was completely blank….and blood was dripping from the sides of her mouth. He was too far to see that it was mostly black. He had no idea how he hadn’t picked up the scent before, but now he was overwhelmed by the smell of her blood. He was frozen for a moment as a smirk lifted her lips, breaking that dead expression from a moment ago….but as she stared at him, her eyes were stone cold.
“Laito~” she called. “Why are you staring at me like that?”
That snapped him out of it. He dashed around the fountain towards her, but she continued to step further back away from him.
“What’s wrong? You look worried over something. It couldn’t be me, could it? Why do you care if I die? It makes no difference to you, does it? I’m just a random human girl. It’s not like we are particularly close. I mean, we argue most of the time we see each other, right?”
“How could you say that?!” he exclaimed. “Stop this! There’s something wrong with you. We have to get you treated!”
She suddenly laughed. “Why? What reason do you have to help me? Just let me die.”
“Why are you always so stubborn?! Just shut up and let me help you!”
“Oh?” she was suddenly directly in front of him.
A twisted grin warped her expression as she grabbed his face with bloody fingers. “I didn’t realize you actually cared! You don’t want to lose me, riiiiight?!”
With that, she collapsed in his arms. Her maniac laughter only added to his distress.
“I have no idea what the hell is going on, but I’m taking you inside,” he picked her up, rushing inside.
He thought about immediately taking her to Reiji but decided to take her to his room and get Reiji once she woke up instead. He had no idea what had happened, after all. She would need to tell him.
He pulled up a chair beside his bed, anxiously waiting for her to wake up. It seemed like her sleep was restless, like she was having nightmares. He wanted to wake her up to spare her, but figured it wouldn’t be a good idea.
After a good thirty minutes, Sayo began to stir.
“Laito…?” She muttered when her eyes met his.
“Sayo…!”
“What the hell am I doing here? Why am I in your room?”
“You don’t remember?”
“No. I went to bed in my own room. Did you bring me here?” She glared.
“I did, after you passed out in the garden.”
Now she was even more confused. “Wait, what? I was in the garden? I don’t remember any of this. Please explain everything you know.”
“I saw you in the garden a little earlier. There was blood coming from your mouth. You were acting strange and then suddenly passed out. That’s when I brought you here.”
“I was bleeding?”
She stood up, examining herself for any injuries. But there were none.
“This is so strange…” she muttered. “I’m going to my room. If there was blood, maybe there’s some clue there.”
“I’m coming with you,” Laito followed her out of his room.
“You really don’t have to.”
“You passed out and were bleeding for an unknown reason earlier,” he gave her a hard look. “I’m not leaving you alone.”
“Fine,” she sighed.
When they got to her room, they were faced with quite the sight. There was a large puddle of blood with black sludge in it beside her bed from earlier.
“W-What the hell…?” She muttered.
“You don’t remember this?” Laito asked.
“Not at all…”
She walked over to the puddle, studying it more closely.
“What is this stuff…?”
She dipped her hand in, trying to grab some of the black sludge with her fingers. The second she made contact with it, her heart skipped a beat. Her mind went hazy. She began to remember her dreams…and what she was desperately trying to fight inside her head as she was wandering around after waking up.
“Just give in. You don’t need this body. You don’t even want to be here. Shouldn’t you be with your brother? Isn’t he lonely without you? You’re the reason he’s dead. If it weren’t for you, he would still be alive. So be a good little sister and join him already. Give this body to me and be with Shiro, Sayori. Don’t you feel bad for me? I just want to see my sons again.”
“Just give in.”
“Give in, Sayori.”
“Give in.”
“Sayo?!” Laito exclaimed as Sayo fell backwards, passing out on the floor.
Sayo was on her bed when she woke up again. Laito was sitting by her bedside once more. He looked even more concerned than the first time.
“Sayo…” he let out a sigh of relief when she turned to stare at him. “Reiji was here a minute ago. He examined you to try to figure out what’s wrong with you.”
“And? Did he figure it out?” She asked.
He didn’t miss the strange tone in her voice.
“No…He went to his room to analyze that black stuff in the blood on the floor.”
“I see,” she smirked. “That gives us time, then.”
“Time?” He asked, confused. “Time for what-?!”
She grabbed him by the shirt, pulling him on top of her.
“Time for this,” she wrapped her arms around him, leaning up to kiss him.
He was shocked. This was what he had been waiting for. It’s what he had wanted from her for a long time now. So why did it feel wrong? This didn’t seem like Sayo.
“What are you doing?” He tried to pull away.
“More like what are you doing? I know you want me. What are you waiting for?”
“You’re acting strange…This isn’t actually what you want.”
“You’re right,” she smirked. “I want revenge for my death.”
“What…?” He stared, unsure what she meant.
He hadn’t noticed she had it in her hand until her pocket knife was embedded in his heart.
“Y-You…? Sayo…?” He coughed, blood spilling from his lips.
She giggled, a look of delight in her eyes. “Wonderful! That’s the look of despair I wanted to see! Imagine how I felt when my beloved sons tried to kill me? Now the woman you love has killed you. How does it feel, Laito? When she regains consciousness, I’m sure it will break her…and then this body will be completely mine.”
“M-Mother…” he glared. “How?!”
“Do you really want your last words to be to me? Shouldn’t you confess your love to this woman? Tell her how much it hurts to be killed by the one you love!”
“Sayo didn’t kill me…it was you…She never did believe me…but I do love her…”
With that, Laito fell onto the bed, never to move again.
“Poor fool,” she chuckled. “Reiji, was it…? Seems like he’s infatuated with her as well. Why stop with just one?”
She laughed, deciding to push Laito’s body to the floor where it wouldn’t be immediately visible when Reiji came back.
She was extremely bored by the time Reiji returned to Sayo’s room.
“You are awake,” he noted.
“I woke up not too long ago,” she nodded.
“I thought Laito was going to stay with you.”
“He had to get something. He said he would be right back. You were analyzing the black substance in my blood?”
“Correct. It is a toxin that allows for mental manipulation. Certain insects and such use it to control or immobilize their host or prey.”
“Why would something like that be in my blood?”
“That is what I would like to know. Have you eaten anything strange recently?”
“Not that I remember. Is this toxin dangerous?”
“To an extent. It must be why you do not remember waking up and walking around. It could be just in your digestive system, but there is a chance it also moved to your circulatory system. I would like to check your blood to determine if that is the case.”
She resisted the urge to grin. What a perfect opportunity.
“Of course,” she got up, walking over to Reiji.
He brushed the hair away from her neck before biting her. He was so focused on her blood that he didn’t notice her pull out her pocket knife before she wrapped her arms around him. It was only as she flipped the blade open that he noticed the new bloodstains on her bed…but it was too late to stop her from stabbing him in the back, right through the heart.
“S-Sayo…?!”
“Not quite,” she giggled, pushing him off of her. “You look just like Karl did when we first met. Killing you is quite the shame…but rather entertaining. And killing both you and Laito will shatter this girl’s spirit.”
“You…Who are you?” Reiji glared.
“Does it matter?” She laughed. “I said the same thing to my idiot son, but do you really want to say your last words to me? Don’t you have anything to say to this woman?”
“Tch…’This woman’ as you say, is special. She can handle whatever you throw at her. You will not win against her.”
“I already have,” she smirked.
Reiji tried to say more, but the last of his strength was fading.
“I’ll give you your body back one last time, Sayo,” Cordelia giggled. “After you see this, you won’t want it anymore.”
Sayo was on the floor of her room when she began to stir. Her vision was a bit blurry and her head ached. She placed her hands on the floor to help push herself up but was immediately confused as to why they were suddenly wet.
She glanced over to see if water had spilled on the carpet. Her eyes shot wide open. Her fingers were stained red. There was a large blood stain soaked into the carpet.
She shot to her feet. Glancing down at herself, she noticed she had blood on her clothes as well…but she wasn’t injured. So what caused all the blood? She couldn’t remember anything after going to bed.
She knew she should look around the room…but she was scared. Something inside her was screaming at her…telling her not to. There was an overwhelming sense of dread telling her something horrible had happened, and she would be better off not knowing. She should just leave the room…she should run far away.
But she couldn’t do that. Instead, she slowly turned her head to look around the room. Her hand flew to her mouth, stifling a scream. Reiji was sprawled on the ground behind her. Blood stained his shirt and had dripped from his mouth. She rushed to his side, dropping to her knees.
“Reiji?! Reiji! Wake up!”
She shook him, but knew it wouldn’t do anything. She could see the stab wound…directly where his heart was. Tears spilled down her cheeks.
“No…no…How could this have happened…?”
As she wiped her eyes with the back of her hand, something on the bed caught her eye. She turned, her body shaking.
“Oh my god…” she sobbed.
She stood, taking a few shaky steps towards the bed. Laito was laying there, in the same state as Reiji.
“L-Laito…?”
When she saw the stab wound to his heart, she finally let out the scream she had been holding in this whole time.
“I’m sorry!” She cried, grabbing his hand. “I’m so sorry, Laito…! You may have pissed me off sometimes, but I never actually wanted you dead! Who did this?! Who did this to you two?!”
Something shiny caught her eye. It was lying by Laito’s leg. She reached for it with her other hand, holding it up so she could see it better.
“Oh god…” she choked back another scream.
It was a knife…but not just any knife. It was hers. She couldn’t remember anything…they were both in her room…and she had blood on her.
“What have I done…?” She sobbed, stumbling away from Laito.
“What the hell is going on?” Ayato suddenly threw the door to her room open.
He could only stare. The bodies of two of his brothers were lying dead in her room, and she was standing there, covered in blood, holding up a bloody knife.
“Ayato…” she muttered.
“What the fuck…?” Ayato took a few steps back. “Sayo, what did you do?!”
“I…I don’t know…I don’t know…”
How convenient, a voice giggled in her head. I didn’t expect to see Ayato so soon. You know what to do, Sayori.
“No…I won’t…” she muttered.
Do it. You have no choice. Kill him, Sayori. Kill him.
“No…! I can’t!”
“What the hell is wrong with you?” Ayato stared at her like she was crazy.
Kill him! You’re already a murderer. You killed the two men who loved you. Remember the faces they made when the woman they loved stabbed them in the heart.
She suddenly saw flashes of Cordelia’s memories when she killed Laito and Reiji. The look in their eyes…she couldn’t take it. She wanted to fight, but that moment of despair allowed Cordelia the opportunity she needed. Sayo’s spirit was breaking, just like she wanted. She didn’t need to take over. She could will Sayo to kill Ayato.
Sayo giggled, taking a few steps towards Ayato. “What’s wrong, Ayato. I’m injured. Why don’t you come take some of my blood? I don’t want it to go to waste.”
“That isn’t your blood. You’ve gone crazy,” he snapped before running off.
“You want to play?” She grinned. “I’ll chase you then!”
She ran after him.
As Ayato ran, he spotted Subaru up ahead down the hall.
“Subaru! Run!” He warned.
Subaru simply looked at him in disinterest. Ayato grabbed his arm, dragging him along.
“The hell are you doing?!” Subaru snapped.
“Sayo has gone nuts! Reiji and Laito’s bodies are in her room and she’s chasing me. Better to run just in case she isn’t just goin’ after me.”
“What?! You sure you weren’t just seein’ things?”
“If I was, you explain why she’s chasing me with a knife then,” Ayato snapped.
Subaru didn’t have a comeback.
Eventually, the two were able to lose her and escape outside. They thought about warning Kanato and Shu but decided they could take care of themselves. However, after a moment, they realized who else was in the house.
“What about Yui…?” Subaru muttered.
“Tch…” Ayato grit his teeth. “Do you think Sayo would hurt her?”
“How crazy is she?”
“No idea…”
Sayo stumbled around the mansion’s halls in a daze. She was sick of chasing Ayato and Subaru. A part of her was itching to kill them, but the other half was desperately trying to fight that urge. That part of her just wanted to break down and cry.
“Sayo?” A voice called out, snapping her out of it.
She turned to see Yui walking towards her. When she saw all the blood, she freaked out, rushing towards Sayo.
“Oh my gosh! What happened?! Are you okay?!”
“No…I’m not okay…” she muttered, tears slipping down her cheeks. “Everything is wrong…It’s all fucked up…I don’t know how it happened…I don’t know what’s wrong with me…”
“I don’t understand…Did something happen?”
“Laito…and Reiji…they’re dead.”
“What?! H-How did such a thing happen…?”
“It was me…I killed them…” she sobbed. “I don’t remember doing it…Someone is telling me to do these things…The same voice told me to kill Ayato…I chased him but he got away. I’m so glad he did…But if I see him again, I’m afraid of what will happen…Her voice will come back, I’m sure of it…”
“What…?” Yui stared, her eyes filled with horror. “Sayo, what are you saying…?”
“You have to get away from me…!” She stumbled backwards. “There’s only one way to stop this! Go find Ayato!”
Sayo ran off before Yui could say anything else.
“What does she mean…?” Yui had the feeling it was nothing good.
Even though Sayo told her to find Ayato, she chased after the girl instead. But Sayo had turned a corner before Yui could see where she had gone. Before she could find Sayo, she bumped into Ayato and Subaru instead.
“There you are!” Ayato grabbed her arm. “We have to get out of here! There’s something wrong with Sayo. She’s dangerous right now.”
“That’s why we have to find her!” Yui shook her head. “When I saw her, she said she was going to stop this. I’m worried about what she’s going to do. We have to look for her!”
Even though they knew it would be better to just leave, Ayato and Subaru knew Yui had a point. But before they could say anything, they caught the scent of Sayo’s blood. They both exchanged worried glances.
“Come on,” Ayato dragged Yui behind him as the two followed the scent.
They found themselves at the door to her room. Ayato knew she had left it open earlier, but it was closed. He was afraid of what they would find when they opened it…
Subaru pushed open the door, bracing himself for the scene. Ayato had told him about the corpses, after all. But Reiji and Laito weren’t the only ones there anymore. Sayo was leaning against her bed, her knife embedded in her heart. Yui screamed at the sight. Ayato immediately covered her eyes, but it was too late. The image would forever be seared into her brain.
“Dammit…” Subaru muttered. “We're too late…”
“Sayo…Why…?” Yui cried.
“Let’s go,” Ayato pulled her out of the room.
“No…! We shouldn’t leave her,” Yui protested.
“She wouldn’t want you to see this,” Ayato argued.
Subaru closed the door behind them. The two vampires weren’t sure how they felt yet…but Yui would carry this loss for a long time to come.
