Once again, I find myself disappointed by Devsis AND the cookie run community, and how alarmingly racist a lot of people are.

This will be a discussion on not just Cookie Run: Tower of Adventures, but also the community's response against the wider issue. It's gonna be long, so buckle up.

1. What's going on with Cookie Run: Tower of Adventures?

To no one's surprise, it's racism against Black people and Indigenous people, yey! /S

Why is this an issue? Because these traditional practices and clothing of people of color (especially those of black and native american descent) have often been used as just costumes and props instead of being respected as what it is, a culture that is to be respected.

2. The community's response.

Celezticuh and several other members of the CRTOA discord have brought up this issue in the official discord server, but have experienced pushback FROM THE COOKIE RUN COMMUNITY ITSELF.

Here are some notable people defending this behavior.

Let me be clear, as an asian myself, telling people that "Oh they're asian, they don't know!" Or "They don't care!" Is -newsflash- ALSO RACIST TOWARDS ASIAN PEOPLE??????

We here in asia face discrimination for not being light skinned, skinny, and colorism. It's not as bad as being the subject of extreme racism, but it has negative effects on our society. And it disgusts me how people genuinely think that just because they're korean, means they get a free pass to be disrespectful towards other people outside of their circle.

Secondly, they have fans INTERNATIONALLY. If they only cared about korean fans, they would not have as big of an impact on the wider scale as they do. They know we (the people outside of korea) have our eyes on them. And people who say that they don't know, are full of bullshit.

3. Why has there no action been taken against this?

A big issue as to why this has never reached Devsister's ears is because the Korean community isn't as outraged at this compared to the international audience. Now, I am not saying we should automatically assume any and all korean players are as racist as the company, but I'd chalk it up to ignorance, which still sucks let's be real.

Anyway, what I'm trying to say is that the international community has been calling for protests and asking for the trucks to be delivered again, but unless we have support from the korean community, it's looking to be highly unlikely.

So here we ask for people to help us get into contact with someone from the korean community who's willing to help get the trucks set up again.

I'm not the best at conclusions, however, I want to leave off with a message.

The cookie run community has festered some of the most racist, vile garbage of people I've ever seen. Not just towards black and non pale skinned people of color, but even towards the asians you claim to defend themselves (Dark Cacao, Affogato and Peach Blossoms are barely scratching the surface.).

Cookie run fans, please do better.

No shade at Devsis (for this, specifically) but seriously there are a lot of characters in this game who are a) female, b) have a relationship with another woman that is VERY easy to interpret as queer, and c) are deeply traumatized. Don't get me wrong I love 5/6 of these character's episodes (I only dislike Ice Queen's because Icicle Yetti's voice got really grating on me very quickly) but is everything good at Devsis?

Frost Queen is a god of frost who froze to death in the arms of her 'best friend' in a past life. She goes on to use blizzards to balance out life and death. (I think. I watched a breakdown and some cutscenes. in order to get this information you have to play an hour with the most annoying cookie available)(I do not like Icicle Yeti)

Moonlight Cookie was created to observe the dreams of mortals/watch over the city of wizards. She has a close relationship with the god of the ocean but can't leave the city to kiss her girl. Eventually, all the wizards leave the city and Moonlight is left to watch over it on her own.

Black Pearl Cookie was a gem mermaid who had a close relationship with a 'maid', Frilled Jellyfish Cookie (second from the right on the bottom row). She is bisexual however, and falls for the worst possible man after running away from home because she didn't get magic powers during the sea magic ceremony thing. The dude steals her kingdom's magic pearl (or maybe he gives it to her? I don't remember the specifics) which starts a war and kinda just fucks everything up. Black Pearl goes to Sea Fairy for help, but Sea Fairy starts a space program instead of helping so Black Pearl turns emo. Also, Frilled Jellyfish dies due to the war. (I said Cookie Run lore was wild)

Sea Fairy Cookie is really down bad for Moonlight Cookie and (unintentionally) makes it everyone's problem. She ignores the sea cookies while they are actively fucking dying and sorta just sits around for the entire plot. She is one of my favorite characters. Like go off girl make your lesbian pining an actual threat to everyone's safety.

Frilled Jellyfish Cookie has been mentioned already but she's just the sweetest little thing. She just wants to see BP happy, man. She does everything in her power to try to console BP and it just gets her killed in the end. Her dying words are her telling BP to leave her and get to safety, and that she will be fine. BP should have just kissed the jellyfish girl why'd she have to fuck around with Oyster :(

Golden Cheese Cookie. She's my favorite character. So for the sapphic part, she's weirdly flirty with Black Rasine Cookie (another desert-themed cookie with bird motifs) and I'm team 'the ancient heroes were poly' so if you ask me she was smooching White Lily and Hollyberry at some point in the past. For the tragic part, here's one of the wildest backstories this game has! Basically, GCC founded and ruled the Golden Cheese Kingdom, which I'm gonna call Cheeseypt because that's what it is. Cheeseypt is a relatively secluded kingdom, mostly interacting with the wider world through trading. At one point, Golden Cheese leaves her kingdom to fight in the Dark Flour War alongside the other Ancient Heros. What happens while she's out? Dark ENchantress (who happens to be GC's ex-close-friend) FUCKING NUKES ALL OF CHEESEYPT. Not even a 'oh they had to flee and they are still rebuilding :(' no ALL OF GOLDEN CHEESE'S FRIENDS ARE DEAD. Consumed by grief, because you know, everyone she loves is dead, GC buries them all under the kingdom and connects their souls to a digital city before entombing herself with them. She tunes the digital city so that everyone's wishes are granted, and all her citizens live lives of comfort and wealth because, for as much as she values her gold, her real treasure is her friends.

I would stop it here but the way the game ends GC's ark is also just fucking insane? so one of her close friends betrays her (for good reason tbh) and destabilizes the entire city. Faced with leaving everyone she loves behind, GC breaks down because there's nothing for her in the real world. Black Raisen cookie comforts her but explains that this eternal dream is going to end someday anyway. So what does GC do? She explains to her citizens that it'll feel like falling asleep, and shuts down digital Cheeseypt. The characters we met in Cheeseypt don't come back, by the way. There's no loophole. They are just possibly dead for real. (or definitely dead in Burnt and Cheesenburg's cases.)

i made this comic a while back and it sparked some controversy, and because of said controversy I've been scared to post it, so I'm going to say this disclaimer:

this is MY head cannon, and even if i like to believe its real, we don't know for sure if Devsis even intended Brute to be Trans or not or if it was just for a gag (a really transphobic one tbh) 

im trans and i see myself a lot in Brute and even if our experiences are different i can still relate to her to an extent. 

also, hearing his real name being said in game after the character itself is written to not like being called that genuinely makes me cringe i cant take it /neg

but despite the writers not being able to make up their minds for the character, we as a community CAN take this and turn it into something positive. Brute CAN be portrayed as trans positively, and the trans comunity of cr CAN project our experiences onto them.

Kouign-Amann probably freaks out on why Capsaicin is trying to commit murder, and tries to stop him with her sword. She tries to consult him (yelling over the hellfire so he can hear), wondering why he would suddenly rage up like this.

When she finds out MC is the cause of it, she's gets a little annoyed. She starts interrogating them about the situation before he started going crazy. "What happened before Capsaicin got upset? Please tell me immediately, as you are a part of this mess!"

Meanwhile MC is trying not to fall asleep and pass out right then and there-

Prune Juice? Prune Juice is just enjoying the drama from afar. He's probably beside MC, snacking and witnessing the hellfire with a smile. Only if it effects him does he try to stop Capsaicin, but other than that man's loving the tea. "Never thought that brute could be so passionate about his feelings towards another cookie, haha."

Meanwhile Capsaicin:

"MCCCCC AREN'T I ALMOST YOUR BOYFRIEND?? WE WERE ABOUT TO GO ON A DATEEE"

(Same anon who last sent the ask about Shada, so sorry to bring this up again!)

I saw the evidence in another post you made- not sure if you edited it or my phone was just being dumb and not letting me see it. Something about it still doesn’t sit right with me, feels fishy considering that there was so LITTLE evidence (and there’s also like, three different accs on insta with Shada’s name), BUT!

I digress. If this is the situation we are seeing, then that’s that. Period.

My only concern is how… relaxed, the reaction has been. Everybody seemed to just say that we should hc gingerbrave as queer instead of… boycotting? Or anything else? Not even a call to draw him with Palestinian flags when I think that, being what actual evidence was provided for and I’m pretty sure is the bigger and more immediate issue, should be the main focus?

He plays the main character, so there’s no real way to divorce him from the story or anything. If it was someone like Cherry Blossom or Lilac’s VAs (aka someone who voices a character with no real role in the story and doesn’t show up pretty much ever), I can see the shrug off. But it’s Gingerbrave, the face of the franchise.

Even if there was a boycott and surmounted displeasure, not sure Devsis would do anything considering their doubling down on Yogurca and its characters, but it’s worth a shot. Some action is better than NO action.

(This is also not to say “oh YOU need to say this or take some responsibility,” you are literally just the only person I’ve seen talk about this besides the person you @ed, but I can’t access their account).

Ok yeah I’ll admit my methods are a bit too simple and I should probably update my post but I know for a fact that Devsisters is not gonna do a damm thing. Shada is still in Witch’s Castle voice acting GB but then again the original post was made in February and WC came out in March so the lines could’ve been taken earlier.

I think I'm starting to lose interest in her, I don't know why but I guess it was the lack of content of her, no offense I wasn't getting bored or anything but.. I'm scared I don't wanna lose feelings for Golden cheese cookie.. I dont wanna let go because I love golden cheese cookie for almost a year now.. well not good compare to you but I'm just scared, I don't know why I'm scared when I lost feelings with fictional characters all the time but golden cheese was an exception.. an exception that is bothering me for awhile, I don't wanna lose feelings of her since I still love her but Im getting real bored of her due to the lack of content..

I love her, I don't wanna let go of this love because of how much time and dedication I took I spent on the crk game on her, I do it for fun events too but all the reason I even joined this game because of her.. For the lack of content....I....I actually understand. Th-the same thing happened with me with Affogato, where.....I-I still love him, and he's still my king, but the fact that next to nothing's been done with him since Odyssey made me kinda lose focus on him over time (I was still MIFFED that he didn't appear in the Matcha update with the rest of the CoD tho XD). With Golden Cheese, tho, it's.....it's different.....I-I'm still hooked on her....so.....i-if you wanna know why, uh.....part of it is my fic, but also....

L-look at it this way. There are a lot - like, a LOT - of characters in CRK. It's impossible to focus on one character constantly when they're always adding more. However, the Ancients are the true main characters of this game, so....they're a case where we KNOW more content is COMING eventually. E-especially with the Beasts. So....th-that's what I keep telling myself. More content of her is coming. I dunno when, but it IS coming....e-even if it takes a while, I'll be there, and....i-in the meantime, the rest of the stories they release will keep me occupied til I see her again....

(That being said, there's also no shame in taking a break from the game until an update that reignites your interest. People do that all the time. XD Not everyone is as hyperfocused as me, and that's completely fine. CRK is actually pretty forgiving to returning players)

S-so....yeah.....it's coming. And....j-just like her promise to her subjects that she'll be back for them, the game has promised us that it'll come back to her in time. Like I said, the Ancients ARE the main characters of CRK at this point (Gingerbrave is just a mascot now, let's be real XD) And....y-yeah, that's how I hold on to hope. TBH, once I fall this hard for a character, usually it'll last me a couple years even with a lack of content - I had a crush on one character based on a single pilot last me FOUR years - so this kinda thing, it's.....it's different for everyone. I-I hope you understand my thought process, tho.....

A-and in the meantime....that's kinda what fan content is here for....like my fic.....so.....I-I guess I should apologize that my fic isn't good enough to keep you interested in her.....I-I really do my best to do her justice with my writing and....to be self-indulgent, but also make it still feel like her.....as in, in-character, so....yeah, s-sorry.....I-I understand that it's been going on for a while, and....i-if your interest doesn't last that long, I understand, OK....? ^^ Th-thank you for reading....

A-and finally.....a-about your error screen.....I-I've had similar happen to me. F-for a few months, I've had problems with my game crashing (oddly, it's gotten BETTER these last two updates. The crashing was worst during the Mystic Flour update), and.....d-during that time, I did have a bit of a scary experience....

Here's how I dealt with it.

DISCLAIMER: THIS IS THE ONLY TIME I WILL ANSWER AN ASK THAT DEALS WITH COMPLAINTS AGAINST DEVSIS. I WILL NOT DO THIS AGAIN. I have endless respect for Devsis and all they've done with CRK, and it's a MAJOR pet peeve of mine when players throw unfair complaints at them for things either out of their control or just calling the game P2W or whatever when it's NOT (except for Grandmaster tier in the arena) and it's just a case of kids being too impatient to handle a game with grinding in it. I HATE things like that. The only reasons I'm addressing it this time is not only cuz it's the first, but also cuz I think I have advice on what to do for this one issue. But I WILL NOT tolerate being yelled at about people's issues with CRK or Devsis. I just wanna talk about Golden Cheese, the characters associated with her, and my fic. THAT IS ALL.

N-now, um.....it wasn't the exact same error you're getting. At least....n-not the wording you're giving me. The "network connection is unstable" error has NEVER lasted that long to me, and it doesn't happen on the title screen. This is probably on your end, not the game's, so please don't make comments about boycotting Devsis. It won't help.

HOWEVER, I have gotten AN error on the title screen before, that wouldn't go away no matter how long I waited. The message was "Failed to load data". I dunno if it's the same one you're getting, cuz I dunno if maybe it's worded differently in other languages or if you're playing in English, but....y-yeah, this is what it was spitting at me. I'd close the game and wait a few hours, but it never went away. The problem is that it never reloaded the title screen. It just stayed there. At least with errors that happen during the game, I can wait an hour and come back. Nnnnnot so much with stuff on the title screen. XD

So....I.....I panicked. And....h-here's what I did.

I deleted the game from my phone, and then reinstalled it. This is NOT the same as deleting my ACCOUNT. My account still existed. I deleted the GAME. Then, when I redownloaded it, I simply just logged back in to my DevPlay account and everything was right where I left it. Th-that's how I survived the biggest scare I've had playing this game. XD

I-I dunno how much this'll help you.....cuz I dunno if it's the same error, and I also dunno how you made your account (like I use DevPlay). B-but.....your issue just....sounded similar to that, so I thought I could t-try to help......I-I'm sorry if it doesn't....

F-for what it's worth, I've been playing this game since 2021, so I....I have a lotta patience with it.....^^;

i havent played cr in months now but obviously i had to check out the new cookie creator. you start out with virtually no options which is not totally shocking but a little inconvenient. i would have liked to give myself an actual food theme like idk vinegar or slushy but you cant really achieve that atp. given devsis' track record i appreciate they have a variety of color options though at the same time it feels kind of unnatural to equate dough color to actual real life human skin color. this like pale skin tone on a gingerbread man looks kinda fucked up sorry 😭

im kinda tempted to just use the tone that most other cookies have but again if we're meant to draw an equivalency it would be like depicting myself with a darker skin tone than i actually have. i hope this doesnt sound like me bitching that they have various tones im not im really glad for that especially since devsisters has a really bad history of racial insensitivity

im kinda surprised they didnt include any "unnatural" dough colors like blue, red, etc.. a lot of people would have enjoyed that. presumably that's something you have to pull feom the gacha if thats even in the game at all. also yeah you dont get all the options from the get-go like a mii maker scenario you have to pull different hairstyles, clothing and shit like that from a gacha. there's only two default hair, shirt and pants options. most of the shit you see in the trailer is gacha or package-exclusive. also the voice options are not very varied

its still a fun feature but yeah they definitely pulled a classic devsis maneuver here

You know, I have so many questions about how the Cookie Run world works, mostly because of the fact that in this world, Cookies are not the predominant race, they’re simply magic creations of humans

Like, we know humans exist in the world, with the Witches and Wizards. And it’s not just those two, Princess’s Pet in Ovenbreak mentions that the Witch worked for the royal family at some point. I doubt it was a Cookie royal family, since why would a Witch work for her own creations/food, so it must have been a human one, right? Though I suppose in retrospect I may be overthinking things and they are meant to be just a Cookie royal family, but regardless humans still exist

Oh right, and Lemon’s description says he was created in a lab, one that sounds more modern than something the Wizards would have had, and thus implies more humans exist outside of them

But going back to the original point, so if there exists humans in the Cookie Run world, where are they? Why do we never see any? Where do the Cookies live? Because like, in Ovenbreak, they seem to have their entire world, but where is this world? Where are the humans? How big is this Cookie world? Because as it’s presented, the only inhabitants of this world are Cookies and other dessert creatures, when we know this to not be true

I mean in Kingdom, you could at least say that the Cookies exist on Earthbread, but what is Earthbread? Where does it exist in the world? There’s no way it’s what’s described in the story about the first Cookies, that’s way too small to be Earthbread. Earthbread is big enough to fit an entire City of Wizards, and it’s not even a large percentage of the world, it’s just a big city. One that’s likely gargantuan compared to Cookie cities, but it’s still not like the size of a Cookie nation I assume. So where does Earthbread exist in the scope of the real world? What do humans and other creatures outside of it think of it? What is it in the world? Is it just magically inaccessible to everyone else aside from magic humans and dessert creatures? Is it some sort of legend of a land of living food to humans?

And not only do I have questions about the Cookie world, I have some questions about the Cookies themselves in this scope

What are the Legendaries? Why are they representations of the elements? Like, the only ones that make sense to me are Moonlight and Dark Enchantress, as they were creations of Wizards and Witches respectively. And also maybe Fire Spirit, given he was simply given his form and fire powers due to a deal with a dragon. But the other Legendaries I just don’t understand, like why did a tree choose to become a Cookie of all things? Why is the person who oversees time a Cookie?

And speaking of the dragons, I question them too. Like, they’re massive in terms of a Cookie, but compared to something like the Witches, they’re like pet sized, no bigger than a cat or dog. Are dragons in this world just like magic pets to humans? Is that why they spend their time around Cookies, because that’s where their power is seen as godlike? And like, Longan hates Cookies because they replaced Dragons in the world. But like, what about the Witches? What do they think of them? They’re the creators of Cookies

And then I also question things like mermaids and sea Cookies. Like why do sea Cookies exist? Where do they come from? Did someone just decide to create waterproof Cookies made of sea creatures? And going back to mermaids, why are they Cookies? Are they just imitations of real mermaids? Also how big are they? Considering some people say Black Pearl is human sized, are they all that way? And if so, does that mean they’re legitimate mermaids? If so, why are mermaids made of dough and Cookies? That doesn’t make any sense

Yeah I just…have a lot of questions about how this world works. Questions I’m sure I will never get the answers to because they’re not what Devsis is thinking about
