Truchet's Cowl is an interactive colorwork pattern based on the work of Designer and mathematician Sébastien Truchet. Each knitter can knit the pattern shown in the photo, or arrange and create their own unique pattern based on the provided colorwork tiles.
The possibilities are nearly infinite.
Finished Size: 22” (56 cm) around the top, 34” (86 cm) around the bottom and 13” (33 cm) tall.
Yarn: Baa Ram Ewe Titus, 350 yards (320 m) per 100g; 50% Wensleydale Wool, 30% Alpaca, 20% Bluefaced Leicester Wool.
▪️Color A: 30g, 105 yards (96 m) Parkin.
▪️Color B: 50g, 175 yards (160 m) Yorkstone.
▪️Color C: 50g, 175 yards (160 m) Eccup.
Needles: Size: 1, 2, 3 (2.25, 2.75, 3.25 mm) 16” (40 cm) circular needle, or size needed to obtain gauge.
Gauge: 20 sts x 40 rows = 4 x 4” (10 x 10 cm) square on size 2 (2.75mm) needles in stranded colorwork pattern.
Other Materials: Stitch markers in various colors, graph paper, scissors, tape, steamer, surface for blocking, tapestry needle.
History
Truchet Tiles are a symmetry game, first recorded in 1704 by Sébastien Truchet. His original tile game consisted of squares split along the diagonal into two triangles of contrasting colors. In quilting this shape is known as a “Half-Square Triangle”
Visit https://dmackinnon1.github.io/truchet/ to see an online version of his tiles.
More Yarn Info
This cowl works well with any fingering weight yarn. Thesample was knit from a set of leftovers from the Corner Point Scarf and the yarn is unfortunately discontinued.
The fuzzy, wooly qualities of this non-superwash yarn are similar to John Arbon Devonia 4-Ply.
The pattern is fully adjustable for any gauge. You can find it on Ravelry and on my website.

The Rauh Civilization
Throughout the base game, there were always strange structures that I and many others wondered about. They were pillars and platforms built into or out of the cliffsides; almost looking as if they were holding the very world up. These ruins could be found everywhere, but never were the explained, nor did we get to see much of them aside from these pillars and platforms, save for two locations; the Highroad Cave in Limgrave and the Ruin-Strewn Precipice connecting Liurnia and Altus.
It would not be until the DLC came out that we got anymore information about these ruins, which came with the Rauh Ruins in the Northeastern region of the Lands of Shadow. Even then, information is rather scarce, as these locations and the cultures that inhabit them seem incredibly ancient.
If I were to hazard a guess, my first idea would be that the people of Rauh were the original inhabitants of the land when the Lands Between and Land of Shadow were one; existing before the arrival of Marika's people or even the Hornsent. I would also assume they were likely the worshippers of the Crucible as we can find Devonia in the Rauh Ruins, as well as the Bird Warriors and Golden Hippos, all of which use Aspects of the Crucible.
Devonia in particular was said to have set out on her own to search for the Crucible, so her being in this location suggests to me that this place has to be very important to and connected to that which she is looking for.
Throughout Rauh, we can also find statues of a strange woman.
We have no idea who this woman is as of yet, nor what her significance was. I have seen some put forward the idea that she herself is Rauh, but I am personally of the opinion that Rauh was simply the name of region/nation and its culture, rather than a singular person. Regardless, she is objectively important to them and this place; possibly even being the god the Lands Between during the Age of the Crucible prior to the take over of the Hornsent and then Marika.
Her outfit also has some similarity to good ol' Elden John from the base game, who is notably absent from the DLC, as is much of the architecture we currently associate with the underground and the Uld Palace Ruins. It's possible these two cultures had some connection; possibly being one in the same or, perhaps the people of Rauh were not the first to inhabit the land, but took it from the Uld people, only to have the land taken by the Hornsent, and then taken again by the Golden Order. Perhaps this cycle of taking land and erasing ancient cultures is far older than we realize.
Another idea I had about the Rauh lady is that she could be Romina. Evidence? Well, she's the boss of Rauh, and Romina's Kindred can be found around the base of the ruins, as well as within alongside some good old rot puddles. We also never see what Romina looked like before her transformation, save for her silhouette during the crusade in the Story Trailer for the DLC. The end point of Rauh is also notably a church filled with Rot and Romina, which could imply that this area and civilization was one that worshipped the Rot, which I have mentioned in a previous post has its own sort of cycle of life, death, and rebirth like the Golden Order did. Rot's power is rather intense; after all, just look at Caelid. There's also the Lake of Rot, which connects to the Grand Cloister, which has the Uld civilization ruin architecture and Elden John statues, possibly linking these two once more, but it could also just be a coincidence.
One idea that I am a fan of is that the Rauh people are actually Ancestral Followers. The title of Ancestral implies an ancient heritage, which of course could simply imply the worship, or follow, their ancestors, but perhaps it also means they are the ancestral people of these lands; the natives who were looked down upon for their "primitive" ways by the overzealous Golden Order, and thus shunned and left to live underground. It would not be the only time undesirables found themselves trapped underground, after all. And, once again, this may connect Uld to Rauh, as Uld is a place where we can find Ancestral Followers. In fact, it is the only place they can be found above ground.
Rauh also seems a bit like a tomb. This is a weak connection, but if they are worshippers of their ancestors, a giant tomb would be fitting. Additionally, Hornsent legend speak of ancient Horned Warriors, whom their own horned warriors are based upon, according to their item descriptions. The Ancestral Followers are seen wearing headdresses of horns and antlers, possibly implying that they were the horned warriors of legend who the Hornsent appropriated following the banishment of the Followers, or that they too revered some ancient horned warrior and sought to imitate them in the same manor as the Hornsent.
Another idea that I had was that these people worshipped Eiglay; the God-Devouring Serpent. We learn there were worshippers from the Serpent Curved Sword, which can be found in the Ruin-Strewn Precipice. Their potential reverence of snakes could explain why they would be erased from history, assuming they were. Aside from that though, and the Sword of Light being available in Rauh, which connects to the Sword of Dark, which loosely connects maybe to the Abyssal Serpent, and then the snake skin in the Land of Shadow... there's not much there.
Once again, I'll have to do some more digging around and stuff to come to more conclusive conclusions, but it's also possible that all we'll ever be able to do is speculate, and that's part of the fun. Would love to hear any other potential theories. One thing we can be sure of, however, is that the Rauh people were likely once a dominant civilization in the Lands Between pre-split and that, whoever they are and whatever happened to them, they are seemingly gone and forgotten; possibly even intentionally so.

Time for
Revelations with Res
(Regarding: Godfrey, Marika, and the Hornsent)
The Secret Rite Scroll says: "A lord will usher in a god's return,
and the lord's soul will require a vessel."
Based on Miquella's interpretation via the stuff with Radahn and Mohg, it means that the Lord and another must be sacrificed, and then the Lord's soul needs the body of the other one sacrificed to return, with the God in tow.
At first I thought that this being a "Secret Rite Scroll" means that Marika didn't have anything to do with it, that it's some Secret Third Way to use the divine gateway to ascend. But no, now I think Marika did use it.
On Godfrey.
And she sacrificed a random, nameless Hornsent to put his soul into.
Now, my first thought was "why would someone who played such an important part have no name or mention", but then I remember... Mohg is basically a "random nameless nobody". Gideon doesn't know his name, or even that he's an Omen, just that there's a shardbearer calling himself the "Lord of Blood." When Morgott is naming demigods at the thrones in Leyndell, he says nothing about Mohg at all. It seems everyone knows more about Ranni, and Ranni's entire thing is keeping a low profile. Mohg is basically a ghost, and maybe that works out, because then, presumably "no one" would miss him or notice he's gone.
Furthermore, for Marika's part, why would a sacrifice - and a Hornsent, at that - ever be enshrined in a history Marika controls the narrative of?
This could very well be the "seduction and betrayal" it was talking about in the trailer. She suckered some poor Hornsent into getting close to her. We know not all the Hornsent were down with all the shady shit that was going on in the gaols, etc. After all, the Greater Potentate's Cookbooks talk about it, so one of the would-be sacrificial shamans manipulating a Hornsent into becoming a sacrificial goat in turn isn't farfetched. Especially via "seduction" - which also would explain why the Hornsent grandam calls Marika a "strumpet" (an old timey word for "slut" for anyone who didn't look it up). The fact she's so focused on Marika's sexual proclivities, instead of Marika's bloodthirsty genocide-war is kind of telling, in that regard. Almost like what Marika slept with... might have been a Hornsent. It might have even been one of the Sculpted Keepers, considering Godfrey's later affinity with lions, or that could just be a happy coincidence with Serosh just happening to be a storm lion.
Note: She could just be a cantankerous old woman and calling Marika a slut a gendered insult, because old lady and inter-women aggression, but I still feel like there are better insults to call the bloodthirsty despot that's murdering and oppressing your people than a "slut". The line from the trailer could be metaphorical, still (Marika was "seduced" by the power the Greater Will offered her.) But this feels direct and personal, like the Hornsent Grandam was privy to some kind of information.
Anyway, she killed the hornsent, and Godfrey, and returned as a God.
And because Godfrey's body is now a Hornsent...
It explains why he has the Crucible Knights. It explains why his children with Marika ended up developing aspects of the Crucible. (I don't think Godwyn is an exception, actually, considering his piscine appearance. His traits either were suppressed or manifested after death. The DLC is clear that horns, wings, and tails are NOT the only Crucible aspects that people can develop; there's frog tongues, and flower blooms, and whatever Devonia's weird taur-form thing was. Fish scales and gills and weird clam-faces are not out of the question.)
It explains way too much about what happened with that first generation of demigods.
Yes, Godfrey doesn't have external horns, but I think I can explain that, too:
Not all the Hornsent develop huge horns. In fact, given the Tanglehorn Bairn description, it sounds like a lot that would just die in infancy. Most of the little Hornsent commoner dudes you see just have a few small horns poking out of their heads. Mohg definitely developed a grandiose "tanglehorn" sort of look, but when Radahn took over his body, all that remained were a few poking up around his arms and legs. Would make sense that a "lesser" hornsent's horns would disappear entirely. But that doesn't mean the effect is gone, something that people with no concept of "DNA" or "alleles" could know about.
Speaking of which: The Hornsent think tanglehorns "invoke divinity" which makes me think the choice of Mohg as the sacrifice was deliberate - He is very, VERY evocative of "tanglehorns". Therefore, according to Hornsent culture, he'd probably be a very spiritually powerful Hornsent. And there seems to be some truth to their claims.
The most powerful Hornsent to be sacrificed, to host the soul of the most powerful demigod as a Lord, to usher in the most powerful Empyrean as the - presumably - most powerful God.
I don't think any of that was an accident.
- - -
Side note: I know this doesn't help the Miquella accusations, but Radahn coming back with visible horns might have actually been part of the plan. I do think Miquella intended to uphold the promise he made with his Hornsent follower, and an Elden Lord with visible Crucible traits could have been seen as part of that - he was honoring their idea of divinity in the form of a "tanglehorn".
Furthermore, by using a horn-encrusted Radahn to fight Messmer's Inquisition, it might look like some kind of repentance for Marika's aggressions. A son of Marika fighting another son of Marika with a horned Lord could elicit a positive response from the Hornsent... and Radahn would get the "endless war" he wants against Messmer. There's not actually a reason to mentally manipulate the inquisition, since they were all there voluntarily; they're not the ones suffering, and they weren't fooled into being there.

Dark Weeping Angel
written for @strangerthingswritersguild - Time for a joust for Devonia (@devondespresso) Rating: Mature Relationship: Steve & Eddie TW: dark fic, mention of injuries, blood and wounds, vampire Eddie Munson, ambiguous/open ending, Eddie Munson as Kas Prompt: Weeping Angel Word Count: 1572 AO3 link
A newborn first breath.
That’s what Vecna is thinking about, while the dead body, covered in dirt and blood, gasps in front of him.
It’s not really a breath because the man that once was Eddie Munson is dead, but it resembles it. The body sits, too abruptly, spitting blood and mud and cleaning his mouth with his arm. It takes a moment for him to notice that he is not alone, and when he turns Vecna’s blue eyes are staring at him.
The boy tilts his head, like a curious cat. He is not worried or scared, just curious. He is wondering if Vecna is a friend or an enemy. Eddie‘s eyes are blurred, but they are pointed exactly where they should be.
“Good morning sleepy head,” Vecna says, getting closer, and offering his hand to the creature in front of him.
Eddie sniffs it a few times and licks Vecna’s palm, finding that he likes the man’s taste and that he is not a threat.
“Can you get up?” Vecna asks, stepping back and looking at Eddie trying to stand up a few times and failing miserably until he notices that there is something on his back: a big pair of dark wings and a tail are testing his equilibrium. The boy stares at Vecna in confusion, but the man keeps smiling at him, like a proud parent, so Eddie tries again, and again until he finally manages to stand up.
The black membranous wings are so big that they touch the ground and his thick tail scratches against the rocks. Eddie whimpers in pain, looking at his body that’s so different from what used to be.
“You should be grateful to me.” Vecna says getting closer, grabbing one of Eddie's wings and twisting it until the monster tries to free himself roaring, “You’re mine to play with. Never forget about it!” Vecna hisses before releasing the wing and Eddie wraps himself in his huge wings like he could hide from the man that‘s still staring at him. He tentatively touches his wings with his hands, discovering that new part of his body. He startles himself while his wings flex under his fingertips, as he slowly understands how to move them.
“Are you ready to get back?”
Eddie tilts his head in confusion.
“Don’t you want to see your friends?”
Eddie makes a sound that’s definitely not a word but sounds like a question.
“I’ll let you go back where you came from.” Vecna says, pointing at the destroyed white trailers just a few feet away, “Back home.”
Home is a word that Eddie doesn’t know, but he licks the air as if he could taste it.
Home is nice.
Home is good.
Home is edible. Maybe.
The ground trembles and once more Eddie falls on the ground with a whimper, trying to understand what he should do, but Vecna grabs him by his arm and helps him stand up.
“Home.” He insists, pointing at the trailer, “Go home.”
This time Eddie follows the order and wobbles toward the red rift on the ground, jumping through it. He tries to open his wings, but they are still too new, so he falls to the ground with a whimper.
The trailer park is empty, the place looks abandoned and there are no cars in the parking lot. One part of Eddie's mind, the part that vaguely remembers that home is a good thing, knows that’s not normal, but neither is it having wings and a tail.
He starts walking through the woods, keeping his wings up even if the muscles of his shoulders ache, while his tail keeps moving from one side to the other.
It doesn’t take long before he sees a house. A pretty familiar one. A house that’s not home but that he visited enough times to know that there is a room with horrible wallpaper and a heated pool.
A pool sounds so nice.
Eddie walks towards the house and tastes the air with his tongue like a snake. Nothing. The house is empty. He sits near the pool, staring at his reflection, and when he reaches out with one hand toward the reflective surface he loses his equilibrium once more and falls head-first into the pool. The creature squirms, kicks, and howls, trying to escape from the deadly trap he fell into, too busy shrieking and screaming to notice the shift in the air. His cries for help cover the sound of a car getting closer, and in his panic, he doesn’t taste in the air the presence of another person.
A young man is holding a nailed bat in front of him. Somewhere in his broken memories, a voice whispers to him to take care, that the bat could hurt him, but the water is trying to drown him so the creature that once was Eddie Munson cries out of fear, and the boy with the bat steps closer.
Eddie’s hands have claws but they can’t get a grip on the water or else. His blurred eyes are wide with fear and then the boy with the bat does something stupid. Or brave. Eddie can’t really tell.
He strips off his clothes and jumps into the pool, swimming toward the screaming creature.
“Calm down! You need to calm down!” The familiar voice insists, but the monster keeps fighting the terrible water that’s trying to swallow him and drag him down where everything is cold and bad.
Somehow the boy manages to grab the monster, even if he keeps scratching his chest, and drags him towards the pool stairs.
Finding finally something he can use as leverage, the monster gets out of the pool as fast as he can, not caring about the whimpers behind him and pushing the boy underwater more than once without even noticing it.
When the boy reemerges, spitting dirty water, the creature is hiding behind a little house, pool house his mind supplies, still scared and unsure about what to do.
“Eddie?” The boy calls, and the creature knows that he used to answer that name before, but it feels something so far away, like a childhood memory that he forgot but somehow is still lingering in his mind.
“Eddie?” The boy calls again, and the creature dares to peek from his hiding spot at the boy.
The boy is naked, apart from his boxers and his socks, and his chest is a bleeding mess: the creature’s claws tore the skin and cut muscles and fat.
Still, on his four legs, the creature gets closer, smelling the blood and feeling a terrible hunger.
How long has passed since he fed himself?
He jumps at the boy and the young man falls on the pavement hitting his head hard. He whimpers in pain, but Eddie's new limbs make sure that the boy can’t move when he starts to lap at his wounds.
The blood metallic taste fills his mouth and it’s the most divine thing he has ever tasted.
Under him, the boy cries and screams but Eddie keeps sucking at the bloodied wounds.
Ambrosia.
That’s another word that comes to his mind, unlocked from the memory of the boy who was Eddie Munson.
“Eddie… Eddie, please stop! It’s me! Steve! I’m your friend! We helped you at the boat house. It’s me! Come on man! It’s Steve!” The boy yells while the monster is licking his teeth.
“Steve…” he murmurs and that’s the first word he has ever said.
He doesn't really know what a Steve is but he hopes that’s a good word, being the first he ever pronounced.
“Yeah! That’s me! I’m Steve!” The boy insists and in his eyes, there is hope for recognition “I’m Steve and you are Eddie! Right?”
The monster tilts his head, still straddling the boy.
“Eddie?” He asks again, but this time the boy doesn’t try to move.
Eddie is a familiar word but it means nothing to the creature that’s hovering over him, so he keeps scenting the air, tasting it on his tongue to be sure if the boy is a threat or not, and when he smells him, he smells like food.
The creature ducks his head, ready to continue his feasting, but something stops him.
Steve is a good word, the voice inside him tells him, too good to be eaten.
But there are other creatures out there, creatures named Jason, Andy, and many more, that they can devour without feeling guilty.
Steve is not on the list.
Steve is something they must protect, even from themselves.
It physically hurts removing himself from Steve’s body, an ache old and deep that has no words. The creature tastes the air with his long tongue and he tastes remorse, regret, and a pain he can’t explain.
It’s not physical, but it’s so strong that it makes his eyes water.
The creature that once was Eddie Munson gets up and stares at the boy. He has friends, the voice inside him reassures him, they’ll take care of him, so the monster steps back and turns toward the woods.
He knows that he is just a puppet, but if he still can, he will try to preserve what Steve is.
The creature turns one last time to stare at the boy, and for a moment he catches a glimpse of his reflection in the water: a dark weeping angel crying blood tears.

81) Cleanrot Knight in Stillwater Cave (what makes her stand out is that you find the set Gowry wears here! otherwise this set doesn't have connection with Scarlet Rot (which this cave is filled with) but is simply a set of sorcerers that got kicked for herecy. maybe this cave is where Gowry did something with his glintstone to be able to possess any Kindred of Rot body, and perhaps she helped him with it?)
82) single Nox Swordstress as a boss in Sellia
83) a Black Knife with unique wounded model unlike any other of them in Deathtouched Catacombs
84) wife of Garris
85) Jar Bairn
Potentially:
86) there is 'Gaia' mentioned as someone who studied Gravity Magic along with Gaius, and apparently it is not mistranslation of Ogha. the only one it could be is his BOAR xD this name sounds feminine though, so maybe boar is a she?
87) Fortissax's gender is not confirmed; Japanese description doesn't have any pronouns at all, so English just said 'it'! However, Godrick monologues to the dead drake that they're "both relatives of the dragons", which could be literal considering Godwyn and Fortissax were so close 🤔
88) Eiglay (Eglė is "the Queen of the Serpents" in Lithuanian folklore, and I don't think you need me to tell you the two names are similar ahahah)
89) Asimi (cut content but Mimic Tear was supposed to be the girl who bonded with us first, it is hard to tell whether we can count the final one as Asimi or not)
90, 91) two 'female' Mimic Tears from four of these hostile NPCs (I feel like Silverfolk origin for Tarnished descends from Silver Tears rather than Albinaurics, so they can become solid people! these two perhaps are just fleshed out in this form at this rate! these do respawn though, so it is hard to tell if they count, or if this is actually their gender and not just mimicry)
92) Miranda (in cut content it was the first floral Crucible known, for now this is the name of the big flowers, two of which are also Dungeon bosses! however, ALL of them are called 'Miranda flowers', so maybe the actual character Miranda whom flowers with the same name descended from is still palatable!)
