okay so I sat down for 15 minutes to learn the urdu alphabet also I forgot the word alphabet arabic and called it abagodia and this man was like 👀 eih?? anyway but also it's so interesting how the script was changed to comform to urdus phonology like especially the h and n like yesss queen
also in devangari script there's a letter for retroflex and aspirated letters but in the urdu script only retroflex and non retroflex have representation and aspiration is shown by just adding an h after it (it... isn't hmmm... the ltter h is complicated bc i would call it an h bc that's where it descends from in arabic script but like they have more forms for it in urdu... like in arabic the letters have forms based on where they come in the written word and urdu is much the same but in arabic h has three forms in urdu that character has like three forms too but they're different and the rules for which form is used seems slightly different...which makes sense ig considers h is kinda important *for aspiration)
BUT the h thing is so good for me personally bc I couldn't remember eight different letters versus honestly two different ones with diacritics for retroflexion and an h so

do you happen to know what language that is in this image you posted? it seems familiar but i just cannot recall what it is
Tumblr media
It's not a real language; it's asemic writing
The letter forms vaguely resemble devangari, an orthography used by several indian languages. Maybe that's what you're thinking of?

i know my phase was a link from tibetan to punjabi without devangari. and although the keyboard is that, you can (if you mind hits the screen write) move shit to other langauges if devangari all scripts combined (then form it like the other ones like yiddish or soemthign) as people leave then i do hindi more. and hindi language and all indian languges are what 0ur character speak in the agem. chinese peoplea re btter at making the characters say what we want, english people can undertsand it better

It has been a crazy summer. I have seen and done so much. I have reinvented myself and discovered what I want in life. C'était extraordinaire! I'm looking into studying in BC, because not only do I love the West Coast, but I also want to do a degree in ecology!
J'espère que les montagnes m'avaient changé.
I have also been practicing my language skills frequently. I feel like I am reaching a solid place with French, though I second guess every word I say still. I have a Québécois friend who has been very kind in working with me and helping me learn!
Now that it's fall I'm feeling a bit more motivated to work hard on my other langauges. Hindi is still in the devangari learning stages, but Japanese is getting to a point where I am able to form more complex sentences. I think my goal for autumn will be to learn at least 100 kanji!
We will see <3

Why do I want to learn Hindi?
Tumblr media
Painting by Narayan Shridhar Bendre
Everything started at an online summercamp where I met a few ppl from India and become friends. Sometimes they would speak in hindinglish or talk about the Indian linguistic landscape, and I was like "that's so freaking cool, I want to learn a language from there." But not Hindi because...you know.
Anyways, fastfoward, and I was getting tired of US media, and wanted to expand my repertoire. So I started to watch indian movies, more specifically bollywood movies- and bollywood loves hindi (for what im told). I was also started to get recommended videos about indian poets (some in english, others in hindi, and some in maharathi i think).
Some time later, I finally re-download duolingo, because I wanted to learn Arabic, and behold there was the Hindi course.
So i was like...fuck it, I'm going to learn hindi + other indian language (you can see I was very bored).
Like Hindi is the one with most resources. And now that I learning it, I am actually liking it alot (except gramatical gender), I am learning devangari which can help me with other languages + hindi is one of the most spoken languages on the world. And I like the media that uses hindi.
My dream is to one day go to India (New Delhi) and ask for food in hindi.

does anyone know of any good resources for learning hindi but with latin script? id like to know it because i have a lot of online mutuals that speak it, but i’ve noticed they mostly use latin script rather than devanagari script. if i were learning the language to speak then i’d definitely want to know it’s alphabet for pronunciations sake, but i only need to know how to read it so latin script would probably be better for me. thanks in advance for any suggestions

So here's this, the might change eventually bc I like the look of devangari but this works. This one is in Asisahala since the Nuyate hasn't been really fleshed out

3. What’s your favorite script / writing system?
This is really hard agsksgsk, but I think it's a toss up between Nu Shu, Hangul, Devangari, and Latin!!
4. How old were you when you first started learning a second language? What language was it?
I was 6! My family moved to Belgium to be closer to family, so I learned and became fluent in Flemish:> I... I'm not fluent anymore, but. I'm planning on learning it again when I move over there!
9. Language pet peeve?
I'd definitely say the globalization of certain languages. It's great that there's a lot of people that speak it because it means we can communicate with more people, but it's eliminating lesser know languages and cultures so ://///
13. What’s a part of your personality that doesn’t translate when you speak another language?
My fun/playful side. Because I'm not super fluent in Spanish, I don't really know how to joke around like I do with English. Like.. in English every other word that comes out of my mouth is either blasphemous or a cuss word, and I don't know how to do that in a way that isn't insulting in Spanish yet 😅😅
Thank you so much for the questions!!
