He fused with his crush????????? I don't remember that episode going that way
That's what his crush was trying to do (but failed) 😔 and he was able to get away
Quotes from the episode below (CW descriptions of blood, insects, some implied gore)
Mikey's Tale
-
They would crawl over Mikey, and he could not move, and he would struggle against Karl’s arm, and he could not free himself. His skin pulled at Karl’s skin, melted together like mixed wax, and he would scream and feel the blood, the insects, crawling up his lips into his open mouth-
And he’d still be screaming, even as the fire erupted around them, burning the crawling things away, burning his throat, burning his scream away.
He’d still be screaming when he woke up, and his grandmother held him tight and rocked him back and forth. He told her he dreamed of the fire, and of Karl.
He would not tell her the rest.
He would not tell her his dream, or that it was not quite as he remembered. He would not tell her what he told the Sergeant with the kind eyes that made you trust him.
That Karl had been acting strange long before that night. That he was the one who’d insisted they go, and that Mikey was lured - well. That Mikey had gone, too eager to stay by Karl’s side despite his better judgment.
That he and Karl had been fused together, skin to skin, in a mockery of how he’d dreamed and wished they would never be apart, as the ceiling began to open up in crawling, bloody swarms and pull them both in.
That all around them, the house began to burn, seeming to engulf the swarms, and the two boys with it, before he heard - above his own screams, and the raging fire - the faint sound of whistling.
And he dropped to the ground, torn away from the still-grinning Karl and his crawling blood, arms outstretched as if in welcome.
Even then, he could not move, even as the fire licked at him, at the laces of his shoes and catching his hair.
But then the whistling came again, closer this time. Then, a gentle voice, and a song with it, as he was borne into the arms of another and carried out of the burning house.

For all the people clamoring for a book/movie/prequel about Haymitch's Games, why is there virtually ZERO fanart of the 2nd Quarter Quell? Young Haymitch who was canonically a baddie? Maysilee Donner, the OG owner of the Mockingjay pin whose death Katniss explicitly compares to Rue's? Where y'all at?
Suzanne dedicates 3-4 pages in ch 14 of CF to describing Haymitch's Games. We know what the arena was like, how most of the tributes died (bloodbath killed 18, volcanic eruption killed 12), we know how Haymitch outlasted 47 other tributes, we know how he won and why the Capitol was unhappy with his victory.
PLEASE the fact that the arena was designed to look picturesque and enticing but every temptation, from the flowers and fruit, to the butterflies and even the water itself, was toxic like some kind of twisted Garden of Eden???? Gotta hand it to the Gamemakers, that's so scrumptiously evil!
Also, I'm sorry to bring this back to my girlie Maysilee, but the fact that she wasn't killed by another tribute but by flamingo mutts minutes after she broke off her alliance with Haymitch and just as soon as he figured out the force field... Ohhh the Gamemakers did her so dirty!
Honestly, for a character with connections to many established characters in the trilogy, (she was Madge's aunt, Katniss's mom's best friend, AND Haymitch's ally) and who is the originator of an object which was both a testament to the intergenerational dynamics in the series and whose symbolic significance is central to the entire HG franchise, we know very little about Maysilee.
Maysilee's family ran a sweet shop, she owned a pet canary (a songbird used to detect poisonous gas in coal mines) which was bequeathed to Katniss's mother after her death, and she had a twin sister who eventually married the Mayor but suffers from chronic pain, presumably because she remains devastated by her sister's death.
These details establish Maysilee as someone distinctly of the well-off merchant class of D12, and they evoke notions of frivolity, excess, and indulgence. Arguably so does the pin which is described as a family heirloom made of solid gold in the book. And yet, these details also speak to the simple joys in life that should be luxuriated.
Katniss's mother receiving the songbird foreshadows her falling in love with Katniss's father as well as his eventual death in the coal mines. Similar to the cakes in the Mellarks' bakery that Prim so admired, sweets represent joy, beauty, and pleasure, even if rare and fleeting.
Candy as both a source of temptation and pleasure, the canary as both a melodious songbird and detector of poison, plus the fact that the 2nd QQ arena was a poisonous paradise, I feel like these dualities had to be intentional! Maysilee's weapon of choice was poisonous darts. She was both beautiful and lethal.
I would like to imagine that Maysilee had something of a rebellious streak as the original owner of the Mockingjay pin. I would like to imagine that she probably had some important things to say given that the last thing the Gamemakers did to her was rob her of her voice.
Maysilee stuck her neck out for Haymitch and rescued him from a Career tribute before their alliance was formed. I would also like to imagine that, even though she died in the arena, her legacy lives on in the little and big acts of defiance exhibited by the other characters around her.
Her spirit lives on in Katniss's mom who moved from the merchant sector to the Seam to be with Katniss's father. In Madge who brings Gale her mother's medicine after he's whipped for hunting illegally. In Haymitch who becomes a key figure in the rebellion. And obviously in Katniss who risks her life for Prim, Rue, and Peeta.
We're all familiar with the origin story of the Mockingjay as a crossbreed between the mockingbird and a Capitol muttation—the Jabberjay which was intended to gather rebel intelligence but backfired. The Mockingjay thrived outside of the Capitol's control and thus became a symbol of anti-Capitol resistance.
It's called a MOCKINGjay because it made a mockery of the Capitol's failings. Sometimes mockingbirds are called nightingales but Suzanne intentionally used the former in the portmanteau of her fictional bird species because she literally spells things out with her naming conventions!
Thus, any character who acts in defiance of the Capitol's expectations or designs is akin to a Mockingjay. It's Haymitch avoiding other tributes as much as possible and only winning by exploiting the arena's forcefield—the D1 girl's axe backfires, and she's taken out by her own weapon. It's Katniss holding out the berries and refusing to win on the Gamemakers' terms, forcing their hand to let both her and Peeta live. It's Reaper using the Capitol flag for his makeshift morgue.
It's all the tributes who gave solace, comfort, dignity, and respect to other tributes in their deaths (this happens A LOT but notice that all the D12 Victors do this). It's Thresh sparing Katniss for taking care of Rue. It's Peeta playing with the intent of helping Katniss win. It's Mags volunteering for Annie, it's Finnick resuscitating Peeta, etc. It's anyone risking their life or livelihood for someone else's sake. It's care, compassion, and even love persisting in the most brutal of circumstances.
For me, taking risks to care for others is what flies in the face of the Capitol ideology that people are inherently prone to war, violence, and destruction. This is especially true when it happens in the Games which are premised upon an "every man for himself" and "kill or be killed" mentality.
For me, taking risks to care for other people is the power of the Mockingjay symbol. It's also the meaning of the Hanging Tree song; risking everything for the chance of love and true freedom, even unto death. And that kind of hope is what rebellions are built on.
I just think that the Mockingjay pin means so much!!! I didn't even mention how, when Katniss pins it on her green shirt, she associates it with the freedom of being in the woods. It reminds her of her father whose singing voice was so beautiful that the mockingjays stopped to listen. The pin grounds her and makes her feel like she's taking a piece of home, a piece of her father into the arena.
Also, the pin is what makes Rue want to trust Katniss! For Rue, music is the one thing she can't live without, and back in D11 she sings to mockingjays to communicate that the working day is done. Katniss offers to give the pin to Rue, but Rue says she likes seeing it on Katniss better.
Also, let's not forget that the pin is a parting gift from Madge, Katniss's friend who truly cherishes her. As with the crowd who offers her the three fingered salute which she attributes to D12's respect for her father or Prim's loveableness, Katniss has difficulty recognizing that people like Madge already respect, admire, and care for her in her own right for her tenacity and bravery.
Madge is very insistent about informing Katniss that she's allowed a district token and implores her to wear the pin into the arena. This is likely a way of honoring her aunt who presumably also wore the pin as her district token. If so, then it's likely that Haymitch would have recognized the pin which may have given him an extra push to do his utmost to save Katniss because it reminded him of the girl he couldn't save.
Anyway, I feel like the intricacies of the mockingjay pin, its original owner, and its connection to the 2nd QQ are a little underappreciated. Like, this isn't even getting into the everlark parallels that write themselves... Please, Haymitch and Maysilee paved the way. They were the blueprint.
Personally, although I'm just as intrigued about the 2nd QQ as the rest of y'all, I'm fine with it being left up to the readers' imagination. There have been some great fan interpretations both in the form of fanfiction as well as the fan film by mainstay pro: https://youtu.be/7mUjssn86h4?si=PNH1rblPBp1Us5pg
I just find it kind of strange that, given how much interest there seems to be around Haymitch's Games, there isn't that much fan content, discussion, or analyses about them. Please feel free to contribute any thoughts, corrections, or reactions to this post!

Audio Drama Sunday - 5th May ✨
There’s something so so satisfying about HFTH being on ep 150, while TSV is on 40 and Travelling Light (TL, if you will) is on 20 . . . the brain is going brrrr.
Here’s what I listened to this week! Spoilers ahead!
👻 @tellnotalespod (S2E9) oh what a beautiful episode 😭I’d like to bestow the highest accolade on Flo’s VA: hearing her voice and immediately casting her in an unwritten audio drama that will likely never be made. I have a theory about why Frank can’t just clear out the warehouse . . . but I really don’t want it to be true.
🌲 @hellofromthehallowoods (150) You can also find me in Camp ‘Hate That Noise’!! Awful. I love this nautical storyline so much. It’s one thing to be told that Buck is now a renowned detective and another to see him in action. Sad that someone had to die but . . . I can’t wait to see the case unfold!! I’ve been trying to wrap my head around Shelby leaving the entire week. Yes, it makes perfect sense from a survival point of view but I don’t think I could have done it.
🦀 @thesiltverses (40) what a good ep!! I’ve been so compromised by Carpenter this season. She sounds so very exhausted, even when she’s not being stalked by her god of death. I’m very concerned about ‘Verity’ who left the minute they arrived… did she recognise them?? Chuck Harm and Val are one of the most unexpected combinations of the year but I’m here for it. It is VERY interesting that Val is now suffering post-miracle. Is this a ‘gods need to feed’ situation or something else entirely. Working with God-killers worked so well for the government last time, so it’ll no doubt be over for her in no time . . .
🧳 Travelling Light @monstrousproductions (20) I can’t tell you how delightful it is that this show comes out on Friday and is exactly the length of my average cycle home!! It’s such a soothing way to start the weekend! There were so many banging lines in this ep, I love a spooky friend!
🏛 @the-mistholme-museum (CONCLUSIVE) You heard it on Mistholme first! People from Yorkshire (me) have the best voices. Like honey, chocolate and coffee all at once - so people say. I can’t believe this is the penultimate episode 😭
🖥️ The Magnus Protocol (14) snake friends! How delightful!! I feel a little guilty at how entertaining Alice’s jealousy is. I feel so bad for her, but the office drama is too hard to resist.
🍎 @notquitedeadpod (XXXVII) my heart!! 💔 I had to laugh at Neige’s disdain for Alfie’s more intimate recordings right before expounding on his own experiences . . . including with their shared boyfriend! It’s a little petty. I love it. And, god, can we talk about this last line? ‘And when you call, I will come back to you because you have begun to feel like home.’ HELLO? Christ.
🌞 Small Victories by @wgc-productions (2.1) How many cosmic interventions will it take for Marisol not to make cosmically bad choices? I don’t know! I’m keeping a close eye on Summer . . .
🧋 @hinaypod (3-4) Honestly, kind of kudos to Laura because if I went through what she did I would simply never touch an antique again… I really love Donner and Murphy’s rapport and how they recognise and respect Mari’s skills!
Hope everyone has a lovely week! 🥰
I'd also like to highlight that the creators of one of my fave shows, Moonbase Theta, Out (@monkeymanproductions) , are crowdfunding for their next one! Throw some 💸 at these lovely creatives!!

Hello, everyone. I present to you this drawing of Ariel in color, created on Krita software.
I was inspired by The Little Mermaid wallpapers, themselves inspired by the animated film by John Musker and Ron Clements, released on November 17, 1989.
It was a bit hard, but I worked on things a lot to give more care to my drawing for the 35th anniversary of The Little Mermaid, the 28th animated film from Disney Studios and the second from the Musker-Clements duo after The Great Mouse Detective ( 1986).

The History of Superman: The Man of Steel's Journey Through Time
Superman, the iconic superhero, has stood the test of time as one of the most beloved and enduring characters in popular culture. Since his creation in the 1930s, Superman has become a symbol of hope, justice, and the quintessential American hero. His journey from comic book pages to the big screen is a fascinating story of evolution, adaptation, and cultural impact. In this article, we’ll explore the history of Superman, from his origins to his role in today’s world, while naturally integrating some informative links for those who want to dive deeper into specific aspects of his legacy.
The Birth of Superman: 1930s Origins
Superman was created by writer Jerry Siegel and artist Joe Shuster, two high school friends from Cleveland, Ohio. The character first appeared in Action Comics #1 in June 1938, published by Detective Comics, which would later become DC Comics. Superman was an instant hit, introducing the world to a new kind of hero—one with superhuman strength, the ability to fly, and a moral compass that was unshakeable.
Siegel and Shuster’s creation was inspired by a mix of influences, including science fiction, mythology, and the political climate of the time. The idea of a powerful being coming to Earth to protect humanity resonated with readers, particularly during the tumultuous era leading up to World War II. Superman quickly became a symbol of American ideals, embodying the fight against tyranny and injustice.
Evolution Through the Decades: The 1940s to the 1960s
As Superman’s popularity grew, so did his mythology. In the 1940s, Superman expanded beyond comic books into radio shows, animated cartoons, and even serial films. The Adventures of Superman radio show introduced new elements to the character’s lore, such as his vulnerability to Kryptonite and his famous catchphrase, "Truth, Justice, and the American Way."
By the 1950s, Superman was a household name, thanks in part to the television series starring George Reeves. This era also saw the introduction of iconic characters like Lois Lane, Lex Luthor, and Jimmy Olsen, who have remained integral to Superman’s story.
During these decades, Superman’s character continued to evolve, reflecting the changing societal values and fears. The Cold War influenced many of the stories, with Superman often facing threats that mirrored the real-world concerns of nuclear war and espionage.
The 1970s: Superman on the Big Screen
Superman’s transition to the big screen in the 1970s was a game-changer. The 1978 film, Superman: The Movie, directed by Richard Donner and starring Christopher Reeve, set a new standard for superhero films. The movie’s success solidified Superman’s place in cinematic history and introduced him to a new generation of fans.
Christopher Reeve’s portrayal of Superman is still widely regarded as one of the best, capturing both the hero’s strength and his humanity. The film’s tagline, "You’ll believe a man can fly," perfectly encapsulated the sense of wonder that Superman brought to audiences. The movie also helped to cement the iconic imagery of Superman, particularly the Superman S logo, which became a symbol recognized around the world. For more on the logo's significance, check out this article on the Superman S logo meaning from Northamptonshire News.
The 1980s and 1990s: Challenges and Reinvention
The 1980s and 1990s were a period of reinvention and challenges for Superman. The character faced declining comic book sales and a changing landscape in the superhero genre. To stay relevant, DC Comics took bold steps, including the controversial "Death of Superman" storyline in 1992, where the Man of Steel was killed by the monstrous Doomsday. This event was one of the most talked-about moments in comic book history and had a significant impact on the industry.
Despite the challenges, Superman’s legacy endured. The character was continuously reimagined in various media, including television shows like Lois & Clark: The New Adventures of Superman and the animated Superman: The Animated Series. These adaptations kept Superman in the public eye and introduced him to new audiences.
The 21st Century: Superman in a Modern World
In the 21st century, Superman has continued to evolve, reflecting the complexities of the modern world. The character has been portrayed in a range of media, from the critically acclaimed Smallville TV series to the more recent DC Extended Universe (DCEU) films, where Henry Cavill took on the role of the iconic hero.
The DCEU films, including Man of Steel (2013) and Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice (2016), presented a more conflicted and darker version of Superman, reflecting contemporary issues and the changing nature of heroism. These films have sparked much debate among fans and critics alike, illustrating how Superman remains a relevant and dynamic character even after more than 80 years.
The Enduring Legacy of Superman
Superman’s legacy is undeniable. As one of the first superheroes, he laid the groundwork for the entire genre, influencing countless other characters and stories. His symbol, the famous Superman S logo, has become synonymous with heroism and hope. This logo's meaning, as discussed in Northamptonshire News, goes beyond just being an emblem on his chest; it represents the ideals that Superman has stood for since his inception.
Superman’s influence extends beyond comics and films. He has become a cultural icon, representing the best of humanity and the enduring belief in justice and goodness. This influence can be seen in various aspects of popular culture, from academic discussions on mythology and heroism (as explored in this Smithsonian article) to the ongoing debates about the role of superheroes in society.
Conclusion
The history of Superman is a testament to the power of storytelling and the enduring appeal of a character who, despite his alien origins, embodies the very best of humanity. From his humble beginnings in the 1930s to his current status as a global icon, Superman has remained a symbol of hope, strength, and the unyielding pursuit of justice.
As we look to the future, it’s clear that Superman will continue to inspire and captivate audiences around the world. For more insights into the superman S logo meaning and other fascinating aspects of this legendary character, be sure to explore the resources available on Northamptonshire News.
Superman’s story is far from over, and as he continues to soar through the pages of comic books, the screens of cinemas, and the hearts of fans, his legacy will only grow stronger, proving that the Man of Steel truly is a hero for all ages.

[RERUN] Holy nostalgia!
youtube
(Thanks to Dark Detective)
[All images are owned by DC Comics and 20th Century Fox Disney. Please don’t sue me]
Ah, Batman...campy, goofy, 1966 Batman...
A confession: I am not old enough to have seen Batman in its original run, but I grew up watching it in reruns. I fondly remember it feeling like a comic book with all the BAMs, POWs, CRASHes, and of course ZOWIEs during the fight scenes. Then I hit my teens and early 20s and realized how stupid it was.
Maybe it’s due to hitting my X0s that I can start seeing what they writers and actors were going for. Series creator William Dozier (who also was the narrator for the series) said he never read the comic before being assigned by 20th Century Fox to make a Batman series (something that a lot of the creative staff for DC movies have in common. I’m looking at you Burton, you Donner, and especially YOU, Schumacher!), but he realized that if he wanted to make a series that would appeal to kids as well as parents, he needed to go completely over-the-top!
And over-the-top it was! The problem was that within a few years the comic started steering away from the goofy tone and toward a tone that was more...if not grim then at least more serious. Unfortunately, the series set the tone for what Batman would look like on screen until 1989 (including Casey Casem’s Robin parroting Burt Ward’s “holy” addiction in Superfriends), and the characters were what people thought of when thinking of Batman, the Joker, and the rest until Bruce Timm and Paul Dini redefined Batman’s entire feel in 1992 (only to have Joel Schumacher nearly kill it in 1997)
(Thanks to tenor)
But this isn’t about what Batman became, but what Batman was.
For all the jokes about Adam West’s “square Batman”, the fact that West was the only Batman with a beer-gut, the endless “Holy” exclamations...
...the fact that Cesar Romero would do anything to be the Joker except shave, I do still enjoy the charm of the show, although there are a few glaring issues I have (and most involve the women of the show)
Let’s start with “Aunt” Harriet Cooper. First off, both Bruce Wayne and Dick Grayson are orphans. Neither have any family that could have taken them in (hence why Alfred raised Bruce and Bruce raised Dick after their respective parents’ deaths), so whose aunt is she supposed to be? Plus, she has free reign of the manor (though apparently she doesn’t enter Bruce’s study) Do you mean to tell me she has never heard the Bat-phone going off and wondered why Bruce had a special phone that beeps?
Then we have Barbara Gordon.
AKA Batgirl.
Now, I get that Commissioner Gordon doesn’t know his daughter wears purple tights and fights crime, but Bruce Wayne is supposed to be the “World’s Greatest Detective” and even he doesn’t know who Batgirl is?!
Finally we have Catwoman, who (if you count the movie) was played by three different actresses and no explanation was given.
And now we have the biggest issue I have (that doesn’t involve the women in the show). Batman, Commissioner Gordon, and Chief O’Hara all refer to the GCPD as “the finest police force in the world” (yes, they may be a bit biased) However, Batman repeatedly tells Gordon and O’Hara to keep the cops out of his way. Moreover, when the police are involved, they come off as incompetent.
This level of idiocy wouldn’t be seen again until 2012 when Gordon leads the entire goddamn GCPD into the sewers in The Dark Knight! If the GCPD is the finest in the world, the rest of the world must be Keystone!

Fiat Lux et facta est lux.
TRUE DETECTIVE (HBO)
Saison 1 (2014)

LETHAL WEAPON 5 (2024) With Mel Gibson & Danny Glover
Lethal Weapon is an American buddy cop action-comedy media franchise created by Shane Black. It focuses on two Los Angeles Police Department (LAPD) detectives, Martin Riggs and Roger Murtaugh. The franchise consists of a series of four films released between 1987 and 1998 and a television series which aired from 2016 to 2019. The four films were directed by Richard Donner and also share many of the same core cast members, while the television series is a reboot with different actors. Although the first film was not explicitly a comedy, the later films and the television series gradually became comedic in nature.
