Through the Years → Mary, Crown Princess of Denmark (792/∞) 22 September 2023 | 🇩🇰🤝🇫🇷 It was a great pleasure today to meet with France's Minister for National Education and Youth Gabriel Attal. The minister has come to Denmark to get inspiration and input for the work to combat bullying and create better well-being in French schools. At today's meeting, we talked about the Danish approach to bullying and how we at the Mary Foundation work to support positive inclusive communities as a way to prevent bullying and support well-being. Among other things, we talked about Free for Bullying, which we have developed and run together with Save the Children. 15 years ago, the first kindergarten came along and today Free for Bullying is available in more than half of all day care institutions. We are very proud of that, and we are happy that other countries find our approach inspiring. Many thanks to the Minister for good discussions. ✍️ H.K.H. The Crown Princess.

Stor ændring i kongehuset: Dronning Margrethe får ny ansat
Kongehuset har mandag udsendt pressemeddelelse.
Hofmarskal Michael Ehrenreich går på pension og en ny hofmarskal tager over, melder det danske kongehus mandag ved middagstid.
Således skriver kongehuset blandt andet i pressemeddelelsen:

The change of throne has taken place.
Her Majesty Queen Margrethe II has today, 14 January 2024, signed a declaration of her abdication in the Council of State. It happened in the presence of the future king, the future heir to the throne and the government as well as the cabinet secretary.
According to the Succession to the Throne Act, His Majesty King Frederik X is now King of Denmark and His Royal Highness Crown Prince Christian is the new heir to the throne.

detdanskekongehus: A peculiar royal tale..
Our children are not always as enthusiastic about visiting museums, churches or listening to historical narratives. That becomes easier when the storyteller has large empathy, and when the story is about one's own family.
The monarchy is deeply rooted in Danish history and culture. History is an important cornerstone for understanding the times we live in, in who we are as people and what binds us together. Our children grow up with history in the walls and in the hallways , but still we wish as parents and the crown prince couple to pass the story on to the next generation (and refresh our own) in an exciting way.
We have therefore started a series of tours in Danish castles and museums, where Thomas Thulstrup director from Kongernes Samling tells about the history of Denmark based on Danish kings and queens over time. First stop was Rosenberg Castle, where we heard about The Oldenburgers and the time from elective monarchies onwards autocracy to constitutional monarchy.
And it was a great joy for all six of us.

Since comments are turn off: I do follow the event counts for the Danish Royal Family: In May 2022 Crown Prince Frederik did 18 public events including a trip to San Francisco to attend the DenmarkBridge conference. He is Patron of DenmarkBridge. He was in SF for 4 days. The actual number if individual events were not stated. In June he did 22 events, that included a Business Promotion to the Netherlands. In August after returning from summer holidays he did 6 public events plus he was regent for 2 weeks. In September he did 25 events. This included attending the UNGA in NYC where he attended the opening of the General Debate as part of the Danish delegation in addition to various other events. He had to leave the NYC early due to QMII getting COVID to CP Mary handled their combined events on 9/22 on her own. October has been a slow month. However, November begins with a trip to Vietnman with CP Mary (the program has yet to be published), and the Crown Prince Couple Awards on 11/5. At this point, Frederik has done about 103 public events. However, the DRF is not good about posting on the calendar when they have other types of meetings (ie they don’t post every phone call they make as an official engagement). Also, Mary’s count is about the same as Frederik’s. However, as with Frederik, not all her Mary Foundation weekly meetings are on the calendar or when she meets with a minister, etc. But that is not their fault, that is an issue the communications department/calendar people with the DRF need to address and fix. It is also not his fault that his important/serious events receive less coverage than if it is something sports related. Crown Prince Frederik is much more than just sports. People would be surprised if they actually just took the time to read up on him. That goes for Mary as well btw.
So far in 2022 Frederik has traveled to Netherlands, Paris and NYC. Mary has made a trip to Bangladesh, Greenland, Norway, Netherlands and NYC. And like I said above, they will travel to Vietnam on November 1 and 2.
How come we never see Frederick? Does he even do engagements? I feel like we see Mary all the time but not him.
He does engagements, but 1) he isn’t as interesting to people because the fandom and the media find women more interesting to talk about, myself included and 2) the Danish PR department is notoriously bad. They don’t post tons of their engagements on their website and often if Fred and Mary do something they only have a picture of Mary for the thumbnail! People assume “I haven’t seen him do work” is the same as “he doesn’t do work” and so Frederik is an easy person to write off , if people want to, because his own court isn’t pushing him forward and press attention is lower.
If you exclude the “extraordinary” events of the Jubilee and the funeral, Frederik did 16 engagements in September according to my count of the DRF website - about the same as Mary - and I know a few others that weren’t included on the website so the real figure is likely a bit higher. Considering the fact the British royals reign over a population about 10 times bigger than Denmark (not including all the Commonwealth realms) and receive 5 times more money at minimum, Fred’s count is perfectly reasonable per capita and per “pound” if you compare to the average work rate of his peers.
Now I don’t know if September just happened to be a fluke month. I haven’t done the maths on all of this year. Maybe I will if I have the time. So I’d be cautious about drawing any major conclusions. But for the most part my view is I’m not Danish so I don’t set his work rate or decide if he’s doing enough. The numbers seem fine, he’s very popular, so that’s that.
