A little peek into my Paint Your State art kits! A lotta love and care went into creating this watercolor experience. I've recorded video tutorials and included written instructions, curated my favorite art supplies including cottonrag watercolor paper, masking fluid, professional grade watercolors, and easy to use brushes, and packed it all together with a lotta love. These kits make their sales debut this weekend at the Destrehan Fall Fest and are available in Who Dat, Tiger, and Mardi Gras!
Paint with me and pick up your own kit (or one for an artsy person you love)!
I'll have other states available by popular request in my shop soon!
" This photo was sent to me by a member of one of my tours at Destrehan Plantation
The picture is of her husband's reflection in the mirror located in Mother's bedroom, it came out very distorted but you are still able to see the image of a male spirit standing behind him looking straight forward . The first is the original the second is cropped. As always share your photos of our tours together. "
This gorgeous home, Destrehan Plantation, is one of the plantations we visited in New Orleans. It has been a filming site, most notably, interior scenes from the original Interview With the Vampire movie were filmed inside.
According to a filming location website, Destrehan Plantation is where they filmed the interiors of Louis' plantation in the 1994 movie. It was built in the 1700s and it's closer to New Orleans than Oak Alley. This is now what I'll picture as Louis' House!
Bombs, Bodyguards, & Broken Artifacts.. I mean, I don't imagine bombs and artifacts results in fixed artifacts. But what are the bodyguards doing in this? 🤔
The poster chapters are here @bombsbodyguardsbroken
Think Tomb Raider meets Indiana Jones meets The Librarians with some Voodoo Princess Archaeologist thrown in. Let me expound a little.
Melania LaVeau is a professor at LSU that comes from an esteemed and established Creole family from New Orleans. From her father's side, they own Meirs worldwide conglomerate. On the surface this is a mercenary type organization that also deals with high-tech weaponry, hence the bombs and the bodyguards.
Her mother is Marie LaVeau, yes that Marie LaVeau. That had been hidden from her for most of her life, and only after a series of tragedies was that revealed when the woman that she had thought was her mother decided to kill her. That is in a long ago story that will be covered in flashbacks.
Using the guise of being a professor, and using her family's enterprises, Melania and her best friend who is also an archaeologist and professor at Cambridge, track down and retrieve powerful artifacts and objects to keep them safe from them falling in the wrong hands. As you know if you've ever watched a show on archeology, not all artifacts come out of the ground in one piece. And that is where the last part comes in.
Now you may ask yourself, why would a team of archaeologists need bodyguards and bombs? Remember that these are not just your average artifacts, and she's not your average archaeologist. She comes from a rich family that is connected in certain circles where mercenaries are required. She a target herself for certain groups who can use her as leverage against her family.
The story that is currently being written takes place as she goes to Serbia to retrieve an artifact that is said to hold great power, but that not much is known about. The team has just arrived in Serbia, so the chapters that are up are the introductory chapters that get you familiar with the characters and kind of their personalities. There will be more characters introduced while they are in Serbia that will be the core characters of the story as it goes along. While there is magic, voodoo, and the paranormal/supernatural in this story, there's a lot of human interaction as well.
So you have archeology, the supernatural / paranormal, some history thrown in, the mob, and some good old down home Louisiana voodoo.

Key Industry Development:
In March 2024, Bunge and Chevron announced approval of a final investment decision for their joint venture Bunge Chevron Ag Renewables LLC to build a new oilseed processing plant adjacent to its existing processing facility located on the Gulf Coast in Destrehan, LA. The plant features a flexible design, intended to allow it to process soybeans as well as softseeds, including novel winter oilseed crops, such as winter canola and CoverCress, among others. Expected to be operational in 2026, the processing facility aims to add scale and efficiencies to Bunge Chevron Ag Renewables, which will allow the company to better meet the increased market demand for renewable fuel feedstocks.

Arm troubles ended the collegiate career of former LSU pitcher Lou St. Amant in the 1960s, but he wasn’t done in the game of baseball – far, far from it.
St. Amant, a Destrehan High School alumnus, became an icon at the University of Louisiana-Monroe, where he served as the school’s head baseball coach for 18 seasons and…
The mansion, which consisted of a music room, a ball room, a dining room, 5 beds, and a coach house, was one of the finest homes in the newly developed town of New Orleans. A luxurious home was constructed to house Destrehan’s family. In the mid 1700s, Royal Treasurer of French Louisana Colonies Jean Baptiste Destrehan bought over Claude’s land and knocked down the lodge that the latter had built. Jean went on to found La Nouvelle-Orléans, present-day New Orleans.was rewarded for his contributions towards the expedition by With the development of the city, Claude’s land became highly valuable due to its proximity to Jackson Square, which was then known as Place de Armes, or “parade grounds”. The first owner of the plot of land was Claude Trepagnier, a French Canadian who aided Jean Baptiste Le Moyne de Bienville in his expedition in 1718. The history of the iconic Muriel’s Jackson Square dates back to the early 18th century when a small lodge was built on the plot of land to house slaves sold in New Orleans. History of Muriel’s Jackson Square Restaurant One of the chairs was flung to the brick wall beside the table. It did not take long before staffs were alerted to the empty table when a loud thump was heard. One night, staffs of the restaurant were managing the fully booked venue and had forgotten to set up Pierre’s table with food. To appease Pierre and any spirits who resides in the restaurant, a VIP table nicknamed “Antoine’s Ghost Table” is set aside permanently and is laid with wine and bread every night.
