Drifter. A mysterious and dangerous man. Or at least thats whats you heard. You really hadn’t met him face to face besides going into the Gambit arena and even then, his comments during the game made him seem more like a sarcastic asshole. But honestly, those comments made the match so much better. Because well, you got to hear his voice. And while Sister was not what you would prefer to be called by that man, it was a decent start.
You were visiting in the tower today, deciding to lay off the bounties and actually take a moment to relax and breathe. The metal claking noise echoed around you as you descended down into the Annex further. Time to pay old Drifter man a visit and really see what was all the hype with him. Turning the corner into the Drifter’s area, hes leaning against the rail polishing and cleaning his hand cannon. Typical.
You summon your ghost and remove your helmet, tipping your head with a small smile. The Drifter never looked up, but he knew you were there. Hell, he knew you were coming before you reached his entryway.
“So, Sister, finally decided on some Gambit bounties?”
You shook your head, stopping a few feet from him. “No, actually. I came to chat a little.” You cross your arms, eyes reading over his face. His eyebrows merely raised some, a small nod leaving him.
“Chat, huh? Listen, I pay everyone fairly for their time in my arenas. I’m not raising the price.”
Your eyebrows furrowed, a small pout pushing out your bottom lip without you noticing. “Rude to assume. No, that’s not why I’m here. I was hoping just to talk. Like actually get to know this man called ‘The Drifter’.” Emphasis on the last bit with air quotes.
The gun was set to the side and Drifter finally looked up at you, stoping for a moment to look over your face. You have had a lot of hard missions, battles, and travels but you never felt as defenseless as you have now with the way he combed his eyes over your features. You raised an eyebrow, summoning some courage.
“Is that a problem?”
Drifter’s lips pulled into a tight line and he shook his head. “No, not at all. Not many people are interested in learning much about me that spans past Gambit.” He leaned back against the railing fully while you stepped closer, only a few feet between the two of you.
“Ask away, sister.” That cocky grin returned to his face.
You both ended up sitting on the floor by the railings, talking for close to two hours. Some of the stories this man shared with you had you questioning how he still had all of his limbs attached. He was actually really fun and intriguing to talk to.
Drifter looked over you for a moment, smile softening. “Ya know, this was nice. Actually having a visitor stop on for more than a bounty or gun. I’m not one for slowing down and talking much but this was…nice.”
Your face flushed slightly, smiling up at him. “Hey, everyone needs someone to talk to. I would hate to be stuck up in this tower all of the time.”
Drifter waved his hand and shook his head. “It ain’t all that bad. I still get to meet pretty girls. Like yourself.” There goes that cocky smirk again. Your face was definitely red now from that comment. You turned fully to him, looking over his face.
“Surely you’re just joking right?”
Drifter laughed softly and met your gaze. “Sister, why would I lie about that? You kick ass in my Gambit matches and honestly, the way your amour hugs you, your face, your voice, just…what’s not to love?”
Okay. Full tomato now. You looked away, eyes trying to find anything else to distract yourself with. You nearly jumped out of your skin when his hand gently touched your chin and tipped your head back towards him. Facing him, he was a lot closer now. Your faces were mere inches apart and goddammit this man was good looking. The silence was broken not by talking, but by him closing the distance and softly kissing you. Surprisingly this man’s lips were soft and skilled.
You froze of course at first but then melted into him. You matched his lips, leaning more into it. Holy traveler, this was happening. You were kissing Drifter. And god it felt amazing. The kiss deepened, slowly and perfectly. His hand moved from your chin to your cheek, caressing your face. You tipped towards his hand, lips parting slightly into the kiss. Drifter took that as an open invitation to slip his tongue into your mouth.
Anyone could walk in and see you two. Anyone coming down here could walk in the hallway and just look and see you two. This was risky but it made it all the better in your mind. The man himself alone was mysterious and aloof, why wouldn’t this be happening the way it is?
You pulled back slightly after some time to catch your breath, licking your lips. You opened your eyes, meeting his dark ones. “Ya know, I might need to see some more of your performances outside of Gambit. Because those lips, those are a dangerous weapon in themselves…”
You looked down at the ground, grinning. “How many girls have you said that to before?” Your voice was a teasing tone with him.
“None. No one before you has come down here and given me the time of day. And then you come in…I’ve been watching you on the field. Quick, agile, flexible. Never take my eyes off you. You retort back at my comments and keep pace all at the same time. You’re a force to be reckoned with sister..” he grinned as you looked back up at him.
“I guess I’m gonna have to show you the full ropes of (y/n).” Drifters eyebrows raised at this comment. Before he could respond you stood, holding out your hand to him. He got up and took your hand, letting himself be pulled out of his corner. You pulled him through hallways and up staircases.
“Mind telling me where we’re going?”
“Mm, a surprise. I go up here all the time. No one else is ever up here.” Drifter didn’t question you further, letting himself be drug along for the adventure. A little bit of climbing up some walls and crates and they were soon coming to the roof of the tallest part of the tower. Drifter raised a brow as you climbed up on the ledge and hauled yourself up. He hauled himself up with you, looking over the set up. A few old blankets, sacks, and pillows, all scattered around into a nested bed type ordeal.
Drifter looked over at you and grinned. “Spend a lot of time up here sister?” You nod, looking back at him.
“Yeah, I do. It’s quiet. I can hide away from the world and not be seen. Relax and just enjoy myself.” You plopped down on the pile and stretched out. “Joining me? The Drifter needs a break too, ya know.” You watched him look around the two of you before stretching out next to you. There was still some space between the two of you. He folded his arms behind his head and rested fully back. It was later in the day, almost getting into the evening. The sky was an impressive shade of pink, yellow, and purple. The silence between you two wasn’t awkward, but content in a way.
Stars started to come out as the sky grew darker. You were busy admiring the stars, pointing out various constellations. You looked over after finding one of your favorites to see if the Drifter was enjoying himself. Your eyes met his and you flushed, realizing he had been looking at you instead of the sky.
“Stars are pretty and all but when you travel around like me, you’ve seen it millions of times. But you…you’re something I couldn’t get tired of looking at sister..” He rolled onto his side, propping his head up onto his hand.
You couldn’t tear your gaze away. Instead, you shifted closer to him. The arm that wasn’t supporting his head moved to wrap around your middle and pull him snug against you. He looked over your face for a moment before leaning in, kissing you once more. This one was gentle and slow but still had a sense of dominance behind it. You melted against him, hand moving to rest on his chest. The kiss deepened, you following his lead and matching his pace. The kiss became hungrier, the two of you almost fighting now for who was gonna lead it.
Drifter slid his hand up to your hair, fingers tangling in your hair and giving a gentle tug. You maimed softly, giving him the advantage to slip his tongue in and wrap around yours. The kiss became heated, your grip tightening on him. Traveler, he was driving you crazy. He only pulled back so you two could catch your breath. You look up at him with kiss swollen lips and a red face.
He smiled down at you, brushing your hair back. “Well sister, I think it’s safe to say you might have this old man wanting to slow down for once.”
You grinned, laying your head on his chest. The two of you fell asleep below the stars, completely content with each other’s presence.
