Bookshelves are a versatile and convenient way to store your books, decorations and other items. They can be used in a bedroom, home office, living room or anywhere you need extra storage space. When building custom shelves, there are a few things to keep in mind to ensure they will be sturdy and attractive. First, choose the type of wood you want your shelves to be made from. If you prefer a natural look with knot holes and grain textures, consider Alder or Pine. On the other hand, if you prefer a cleaner look, you can opt for Maple or Walnut. You should also decide how deep you want your shelves to be. USM shelving is available in a variety of sizes and finishes to fit any space and style.
Plywood is the industry standard for bookshelves because it’s inexpensive and very strong. However, it’s not very pretty and must be covered with a trim to make it presentable.

A custom built wardrobe offers both storage solutions as well as a focal point in your room. It can be positioned in the corner of your bedroom, centered behind or to the side of a bed or filling an entire wall. This closet system can also include drawers, a tack board and shelves for shoes. PAX only comes in 3 widths so it can be difficult to get a true custom fit in your home. IKEA hacks can be used to make your PAX look more custom such as putting a piece of trim in the back to cover up the seam where the wardrobe unis meet (see pictures below). Another trick is to put small VARIERA plastic plugs on the holes that are visible in the back of the wardrobe when it’s installed. This makes the doors look finished and less like you just installed IKEA furniture. It’s a cheap and easy fix that will add that finishing touch.
