episode 19

as you can probably tell, i've thought a lot about what post-canon one would look like in my vision... i've said before that i have issues with straightforward fix-its, and i do genuinely love the tragic open-ended conclusion that the series has, but i... am not immune to playing with characters like dolls LOL

here's some writeups about where everyone is at mentally in these pictures. please please please PLEEEASE feel free to ask me more about this cuz i love talking about my beautiful mind palace

charlotte: somehow the most optimistic person in here, mostly out of necessity. when she died, she saw parker leading her out of a cave as her waiting room and was about to take his hand when airy respawned her, so she has a brief moment of bonding with bryce when he talks about the waiting room and seeing stella. with the knowledge that there is potentially a way to get out (bryce and liam being the proof) and the fear of rotting away again she is by far the most actively motivated to help liam figure out the computer. a lot of her days are spent talking to liam over the mic and writing out the code in the dirt so she can try to understand it. she still has to push against her natural misanthropy (and often shouts at liam or bryce for being fucking stupid and useless) but both working on the code and helping amelia give her something concrete to focus on outside herself. she wants to get home so she can make amends with her friends. charlotte is scared of dying! she's really genuinely horribly scared of dying and has awful vivid nightmares about rotting away. she often pushes amelia into talking about her life which causes some tension, but it's because she really hates seeing amelia lose herself like that - a metaphorical rotting away of the self.

subway seat & atom: not on the same level of pure existential depression as the batch 1 contestants, but they both feel the hopeless mood pretty harshly regardless. subway feels very lonely as the only hidden object still 'awake', and likes to carry whippy creamy around rather than just leave him sitting on the ground constantly. tray is too big and unwieldy for him to do that with, but he 'hangs out' with her anyway, talking to her and whippy creamy in the hopes that it'll get them to want to wake up again. atom doesn't talk much, but he still carries his piece of grass. he's definitely the person who's the least affected by the prospect of being stuck on the plane forever, since he… doesn't really perceive existence in the same way as everyone else? he's an atom. but his time in the competition definitely made him view everyone else as friends, and he feels even more powerless than usual in the face of this incomprehensibly difficult problem.

amelia: falls into total hopelessness when bryce rejoins, basically seeing it as the final sign that they're never going home. still calls everyone their competition names (she actually gets into a big fight with bryce about it lol). she gets really clingy and dependent on bryce when he first comes back but it crashes and burns pretty quickly when, during an argument, bryce tells her how much he wishes he could just go back and never have let liam in and forgot about everything… which really sucks for amelia to hear, given that she's part of that everything. after that, with bryce isolating himself, she's kind of reliant on charlotte to keep her going. she blames liam for airy dying and secretly kind of thinks he killed him but just isn't telling them… she also doesn't really believe there's any way of getting out and is just kind of waiting around to die of, like, old age i guess. after how long she's been here, amelia is convinced that she has nothing to even go back to and frequently forgets details about her life. regularly cries and hates being alone. the shift markings on the side of the water tub have changed from being a way to keep track of time and stay sane to a horrible reminder of how long they've been here and how much longer of an eternity they have before them.

bryce: hates himself and liam and airy and the plane and his entire stupid fucking life. bryce is really, really fucking pissed off at liam for losing the notes and letting texty die and every other mistake he's made, and isn't shy about telling him that. as well as being angry, he's also incredibly miserable, because he was finally starting to turn his life around (he quit drinking after the plane) and now it's all for nothing - and even worse, those 7 months he spent getting better were 7 months he did nothing to help the rest of them, especially amelia. he's horribly guilty about that, and that he didn't tell amelia about the fake votes before he was eliminated… but finds it easier to just let liam take the heat for that one at first. after he fights with amelia about it he becomes a bit of a hermit, hanging out by himself next to the plug, and never responds when liam tries to talk. contemplates suicide regularly but pretty much the only option is drowning himself, and the idea of that still scares him more than staying like this forever. would kill for a beer.

liam: tortured by horrible guilt every day over a million different things. these include getting bryce pulled back into this (plus delayed guilt over getting him for real killed), letting texty die and not saying anything about the charger, not telling amelia that everything was fake, knowing that charlotte is going to die if he doesn't get really smart really fast… he's frequently gripped by fits of rage where he almost smashes the computer and has to hobble around outside with the axe for a while to blow off steam. he has really bad nightmares and dissociative episodes, made worse by the isolation and spending hours in a dark cave. liam really wants to fix things with everyone but genuinely has no idea how to start that conversation. he assumes airy killed himself (and views it as an unforgiveably cowardly move) and directs a lot of resentment towards him. he has a lot of things he wants to say, especially to bryce, but the fact that he cant talk to anybody one on one makes things difficult. spends a lot of time just reading through the code, too afraid to actually make any changes in case everyone explodes, but talking it through with charlotte at least makes him feel like he's doing something. more than he would like to admit, liam catches himself staring at the plane as if it's a simulation or a livestream.

Toddler Bed : Now CASTable!

Thanks so much to @id-element0 for making the bed CAStable! You can download it here. Please note it will overwrite the one you have downloaded in the game (but you'd probably want to anyway).

I am working on an update to the bed that will allow Teens+ to tell bedtime stories to toddlers. Also to fix the "twitch" toddlers get after jumping off and some clipping, so stay tuned.

Tuck In interaction should now only show up when a toddler is actually sleeping (will not show up during naps)

Fun motive delta for jumping on the bed should be working now

I added a small energy drain for jumping as well (you can reduce further or remove entirely in the ITUN file)

Tuck In now only available for Sims that have a good relationship (30+ LTR) with the toddler (no randos tucking in your child)

Description:

This is a toddler bed, similar to Arsil's Napping Mat which was a big inspiration and great reference for me, especially the genius idea of using a geostate instead of dealing with pesky bed animations.

If you have the napping mat (you don't need it for this bed), you already know the deal. Toddlers can autonomously sleep or nap in the bed (they will climb in and out of it themselves with no adult help).

Toddlers can also jump on the bed for fun but they shouldn't because it's dangerous! They can fall while getting off and hurt themselves. If a teen or adult is around, they will stop automatically.

If a toddler is in a bad mood and is sleeping, they may have a bad dream and wake up and won't be able to go back to sleep for a couple of hours. (I forgot to mention that they won't get a bad dream if they have the Cuddle Time moodlet which you get from sleeping with a stuffed animal.) They can find an adult they trust and complain and be consoled which will get rid of the negative moodlet and allow them to fall back asleep. They can also do this if they get injured from jumping on the bed.

Additional Notes:

You can copy the script to apply to other beds but of course depending on the size/height/position of the mesh, the animations may look weird. Update: You need to make sure that bed object has a 2 routing slots, however, named Slot.RoutingSlot_0 and Slot.RoutingSlot_1, otherwise the Sim will reset.

I set the energy motive to be low because toddlers IRL sleep a long time but you can go into the ITUN and adjust if you want.

Some of the animations are little wonky because I'm using a mix of TS4, TS3 and a period of about 10 months in terms of my confidence/skill level with Blender.

This is originally based off a crib mesh so the entry slot is only on one side (see pic below). You can put the left side against a wall but note toddlers won't be able to jump on the bed and other Sims won't be able to tuck them in since that is where they route to do so.

A bit more in-depth exploration of my take on Vash. I’m not TOO happy with it, but it’ll at least flesh him out for the time being, and I can always return to this if I want to clarify some shit later. Hope you enjoy regardless!

Vash loves to use toys on his partner. Especially if it saves him having to expose his scars and whatever he deems ‘ugly’ about himself.

Going to be honest he has stumped me for like a week. He knows all his staff by face so when he first sees you he immediately raises red flags. i don't think I'll ever want to actively explore what Megumi will do if he finds out what happened. I highly doubt Ms.rain or Gojo would ever be that obvious about it, especially Ms.rain. Something hinted throughout the story is how self-sacrificial ms.rain is. That's why Ms.rain can't even hate Gojo after what he did. Ms. rain will do everything possible to keep the peace. You not retaliating against Gojo is also largely due to Megumi himself. He's such a small kid and Gojo's the only connection he has to the jujutsu world. How could you break that?

Also, Megumi is still a kid. At ten years old, you aren't really worried about the weird politics happening with your mom. It may take Megumi a couple of years to start to question why you and gojo's relationship seems so...off. Maybe someone else comments on it first, and now he's also finding it strange that gojo's affection towards you is mostly unreciprocated. It might have to do that you're shy, not a fan of PDA, but you almost seem indifferent...even if a tiny bit uncomfortable.

I really wish I delved more into Megumi and Gojo's relationship within the fic (but it was already 10k words long, i was not in the mood to make it longer), but I hope i implied how much Megumi respected Gojo. Their relationship is the same as the canon version. He thinks the world of gojo (despite acting otherwise), it will take a while for him to even question this new development between you and Gojo.

In the end, I think his reaction would be to quickly shut it down and ignore it. Of course your relationship was strange-Gojo is strange. Besides, gojo makes you happy. Your time is gold

As soon as you get the exam material try to organize the information about a topic, and, from there, you organize the study schedule. 

Make sure to let time to rest, you can use the Pomodoro technique, where you work a full study time and rest the time you consider necessary according to the time you spend studying. (For example, I study for 40 minutes straight and the rest can go from 5 minutes to 10, depending on how tired I am). Remember, that in that rest you should move from the place you are studying to do something else, like going for water, eating some snacks… But don’t use your phone, this will make you lose your focus mode and you will lose time trying to focus again. 

Also, try to make your study mixed, do some study blocks with a subject, and change to others in the next blocks. (ex: 2 blocks with subject 1 and 2 blocks with subject 2)

Discipline is suffering now but not suffering tomorrow

Usually, the motivation is not enough to make you start working, so, you have to be more disciplined to put doing stuff no matter what. 

Remember: discipline is the most pure act of self-love you can do.

Just being my obsessive self and making notes on some of the various versions of Music Meister: TB&TB Meister, Pride Meister and Speed Force Meister.

Starting with the original, TB&TB Meister.

-Meister's color scheme here is purple and green, reminiscing of Joker's, but his colors are both much darker (the purple) and paler (the green) than Joker's colors are. Joker's colors are also warmer hues, Meister's are cold.

I can talk a bunch about what these 2 colors mean, but in my mind they're trying tell you these 2 are the same type. Absurd, silly and extremely dangerous. -Meister generally seems really good natured or at least has a good sense of humor since he allows the others to sing this:

"They're dastardly, despicable Disturbingly inexplicable

"And imminently kickable!" "That dirty, rotten rat is..."

Of course, it's likely him making them sing that because he embraces his role as a villain completely and it's the first time he's ever appeared.

-Controlling people is easy for him. No matter their power level, no matter what they are, if they can hear him, he can control them. -I'm guessing, but I don't think he's used to people being able to resist him. I think he has to use slightly more control/power the groups of villains and heroes. Slightly more.

-His shades have some animation, but a lot less than we'd expect?

-His mood can swing abruptly, but he's generally just really jovial. -He's able to alter his clothes however he wants. -He's completely dependent on his voice, his baton and others fighting for him and likely has little physical combat experience. We do see him use his baton, but once it becomes clear it can be avoided, Meister flees. If he cannot control somebody, if he has nobody to fight for him, if they're too fast for his baton blasts, he's going to flee. He's so combat adverse he won't even jump in and fight when somebody is overwhelmed by his minions. -I've said this before and I'll say it again. Meister's motives are really weird for how absurdly powerful he is. He wants money and praise. Both TB&TB and Speed Force Meister are extremely interested in money.

(-This could be art direction thing, but he's so fucking massive. He's built like a house.)

-His eyes are never shown.

-He's defeated in the end of the episode with one punch. General note going forward:

-I think Meister is completely serious about his role as a "maestro/conductor/leader/director". Once you put him in a group he's automatically going to become the leader of it, he cannot help himself.

Next up, Pride Meister.

-Pride Meister's color scheme is pretty much in line with TB&TB's, it just veers into blue.

-He appears to be missing an entire tooth.

-He has a much worse temper. He's never seen smiling and he's incensed by Connor Hawke blocking his voice. (Tho, really, his bad mood could come from being disturbed and he REALLY WANTS TO PERFORM PHANTOM)

-Combat level is the same as TB&TB's. He's just so angry in the end that he doesn't flee.

-He's defeated in the end of comic with one punch.

-The name "Darius Chapel" is very widely believed to Meister's actual name. Considering it's director's name and I think Meister will automatically take the lead in anything, it's completely possible. The major problem is this comic tells you almost nothing about what's going on because it's about Connor Hawke's letter to his mother. You also have to wonder if Meister's had the time to put his name/alias on that banner.

-I'm not even sure what he's doing there? There's an blasting machine on the roof which suggests he wants to blow something up? What is he blowing up? The building? This man wants money and he makes musicals, WHAT is he blowing up? The people after he's robbed them?

-We do see Pride Meister without his shades and it just shows how bad his mood/temper is. This man is going to bite you.

Next, Speed Force Meister.

-Speed Force Meister changes his color scheme to green and red. With his need to be the leader in mind, the change makes sense. Fiddler, who started Symphonee, wears green and I think it ends up implying leadership here. Of course, he could be wearing it because he's the leader of his own section, the scientists and Mas y Menos. It should be noted Mod doesn't wear any green (so it's not a group thing), outright calls Fiddler "boss" and puts himself in supportive role. (Presumably because he knows Meister gets fucking weird about leadership roles.) Meister does call Fiddler the CEO, but an CEO answers to the Board of Directors and Meister might just think he's the director.

Meister's red accent likely comes from Symphonee's logo, which again makes me think he's really vying for the impression he's the leader of everything.

One reason I think this is the case is because he's wearing his original colors before joining Fiddler and Mod.

And once he loses Mas y Menos and Superboy, he goes back to it. He's so ready to leave after losing his fighters, but he's staying on because there's still a chance he can get some money out of it and he loves money.

-This Meister smiles and seems more in line with TB&TB Meister, he just strikes me as a much more malicious person.

-He seems genuinely fond of Fiddler, but he's much, much closer to Mod. (To the point Meister's shipping himself with Mod in the picture above. He could have said that differently, but he went shipping language)

-Meister positions himself as a "guide" for the scientists.

-Meister's face is an SCP. We get an exellect look at it in issue 1, but after that it's obscured and we don't see his eyes most of the time. (We ignore most of issue 6 in this house, I only like the part that reinforces he's besties with Mod.) It tends to be obscured by his shades, his hat or shadows.

The only time he's not wearing his shades is in the club and when they fall off/ (?) are knocked off (?) by Superboy (?). -Combat wise, he's much more aggressive than the 2 others. When Superboy and Kid Flash show up, Mod and Fiddler both flee, but Meister stays back to direct the fight and to capture Superboy and/or Kid Flash. (Of course this could be because Fiddler ordered it, but I think Meister's already set his sights on Superboy at that point.)

He's still completely dependent on his voice, his phone and Mas y Menos. (We do see him with a cane/baton, but that shows up once and he has it to look fancy)

-One thing that sets him apart from the others is he can use his hands to direct his powers. Meaning gagging him won't stop him.

-He's able to create the clothes and shades the twins and Superboy wear.

-His music appears visibly destructive on the environment?

-I'd love to see how his stint in Iron Heights went and what they got him arrested for? And what's up with him and Weather Wizard?

-This Meister isn't actively defeated at the end of the comic. He remains un-punched.

Also, one more thing:

"LA LA LA!" This could be nothing, but this is a master hypnotist that sings to get control over people. I'd be worried when he starts 'LA LA LA'-ing at me.

holy heifer I have so many questions about your hungry smilers au, I love it so much. Do some of the properties or effects last even after the hunt is over (like how Alan gets back/neck pains)? Do the others know of Pim’s mild resistance to The Hunger? When in the hunt are they aiming to eat or just kill the victim? What about the boss? Is he aware of what’s going on? Is it affecting him? Is he ever curious as to why the smiling friends are acting different or does he ignore it? You said Pim is fully aware of what goes down but what about the others? Is it more awareness for some of them and less for others? How do Pim’s claws work? Ohhhh there is just so much to ponder about with your au it’s soooo goooood

OG AU Post for those confused

I'm glad you're enjoying my lil AU so far! You got a lotta questions and I got a lot of answers let's go!

1:

The hunger is a stubborn and impulsive state. It tends to "leak" out when not on a hunt. Particularly if they've gone without eating for awhile. If hungry it can be difficult to keep from showing signs that something is amiss. Subtle stuff out first: twitchiness, trouble focusing, mood swings... But as time goes on it becomes harder to hide: Constant smiling, extreme impulsivity(lashing out), urges to eat being nearly impossible to resist. If they can't keep it together enough to do their job without being noticed they usually stay back at the office while one of the others takes their place for that hunt.

If they are fed though they remain in proper control of themselves but cannot control of they change forms or not. Little bits of their other forms are still a constant though.

Allan, as stated goes through a lot of neck and back pain, his proportions are never quite right. It's very subtle but his neck still stretches instinctively.

Charlie gets pounding headaches and his tounge is still two. If he coughs hard enough he could accidentally spit a couple drops of acid.

Glep still has small fangs when he opens his mouth.

Pim usually gets sore all throughout his chest and back. A physical giveaway is the permanent black splotches that line his back from below the neck to the base of the spine.

2:

Yes they are aware. It almost costs them hunts sometimes. The only reason he can even begin to fight it is because he starves himself of flesh often and it has trained him to resist The Hunger. Granted it's not much but that moment of resistance he can give could mean life or death for the victim.

3:

When on a hunt the overall goal is to feed. Depending on how ravenous The Hunger is that day, they'll eat till satisfied and that's when they regain control or they will be able to regain control long enough to bring the body back for the whole office to share.

4:

Ohohoho see I've thought long and hard about this since the beginning. Excuse me being a little cryptic up ahead here because I think leaving things up for others to theorize is fun.

What I WILL reveal is Mr.Boss knows more than he lets on. In fact he is the reason The Hunger is such a thing. He's not afflicted by it himself but he has his own motives for causing it. As I told one of my friends before metaphorically Mr.Boss is playing chess and the Smiling Friends are just his pawns in a bigger picture.

Now I'll add to the answer with more questions for you to think about. Why have they never been caught by authorities nor even questioned when the killings so clearly all link to the Smiling Friends company. Why does the media never seem to report on these killings? Why are there never any police records kept accurate? (Files mislabeled as perpetrator unknown or missing persons)

5:

Pim has a slightly higher level of awareness as the others. What makes him notable the fact he can use that awareness to, like previously stated, hesitate against The Hungers will somewhat. Either way to all of them it's like looking through foggy glass mentally. It can be a bit hard for them to tell what's going on and they have to make an active effort to clear the brain fog. Sometimes it's easier to let the mental fog do it's thing though, at least they won't have to think about the life they just took.

6:

Pims extra limbs form from a thick substance that oozes out of patches on his back. This substance shapes itself and rematerializes to match his true arms as much as possible. This is highly imperfect though. As you've probably noticed, the extra arms all bend in unusual ways. Too many joints, imperfect joints.

Because of the substance they were made out of they can stretch or rematerialize partially on the fingers. This is the premise for his claws. All that needs to happen is some reorganizing on a molecular level and suddenly those claws are harder than and sharper than a razor. The claws can rematerialize back into normal looking hands as well depending on the nessisary situation. It is of note though his true limbs cannot do any of that.

Analysing Valentino Rossi's handwriting

okay so to preface this so I don't have to explain myself if I ever get anything wrong:

1. I have lost most of my knowledge regarding graphology after I got deep into it about 4 years ago. I rediscovered it about 3 days ago. Moreover, I'm just a girl on the internet, not a scholar. Some things might be inaccurate.

2. Graphology is considered a pseudo-science. There is no empirical evidence backing up graphology; if it's more understandable that way, think of it as analyzing someone's birth charts.

3. I generally do not know the people whose handwriting I analyze. I nor know what Valentino Rossi is like in real life, and neither will I ever. This is for funsies <3 I just enjoy graphology.

4. An important, somewhat unspoken, rule of graphology is that it's imperative I keep aside my knowledge of what I've seen him act like in public and focus solely on what the page tells me.

5. ALSO. Our handwriting has fixed as well as unfixed traits. For example, your IQ is fixed, likewise, your aptitudes, temperament, and identity are all fixed. There are unfixed traits as well in our handwriting. They keep changing depending on the conditions. Your abilities, attitudes, moods, beliefs, motivational level, and physical conditions are unfixed traits. People's handwriting also changes depending on whether they are writing for themselves (eg. a personal note, journal) or for someone else (eg. a letter <- like the sample currently at hand !)

6. I will sound nerdy at times as I might quote some graphology experts or use their works verbatim from their books. I have tried to keep it as simple as possible but still, if anything is unclear/your opinions vary, asks are always open <3

Now, the actual analysis

1. Initial Impression

This is a “normal” writing sample at first glance. Form quality doesn't reflect over-embellished or neglectful form. The writing is legible, which is expected considering it is a letter. The handwriting is slightly middle zone dominant(explanation in section 8.) indicating a bit of self-centredness and concern regarding day-to-day life. There are a lot of things crossed off which may show emotional distress at the time of writing the sample. I also noticed the large spacing between the lines at first glance and it generally shows fear of isolation(he was leaving Yamaha 💀) and distrust. There are also some arcades and garlands at the end of words(explanation in section 10). WEIRDASS LOWER ZONES. 

But mainly, it's so… erratic; the baseline is erratic, the slant is mostly vertical but still erratic at times, and the way he crosses off so much stuff is an indicator of emotional distress. 

2. Baseline

The baseline is the imaginary line running from left to right at the same level. It is on this imaginary line that letters rest on dividing upper and lower areas while moving forward to the right. Any movement horizontally along the baseline represents your reaction to experiences, living values, time demands, and learning. Right motion is to advance, expand, and progress and left motion is to revert, constrict, and regress. The baseline reveals 1. attitudes about reaching our goals, 2. the kind of mental energy we apply to our life situations, and 3. our general moods.

Initial lines in the sample display a “Moody” baseline or an erratic baseline(some authors call it a “sinuous” baseline). When a baseline has a number of ups and downs, or ascending and descending it is called erratic. Of course, it shows the moodiness of the person. They may laugh and cry easily and have lots of ups and downs in their lives. They are unbalanced as the handwriting shows. This is not to be confused with an incoherent, aka, ”sociopathic baseline”.

HOWEVER, the end of the sample follows a stable baseline which is an indicator that the person shows controlled/consistent behaviour to the outward world. A straight line is a straightforward path and its meaning is a firm, unchanging foundation. Its positive qualities are straightness, discipline, willpower, constancy of purpose, and responsibility. Its negative aspect impact is inflexibility. 

I wish I had more samples to confirm my thoughts and form a consistent opinion because I cannot conclude a single baseline pattern followed by the person. Language and cultural upbringing differences also don’t help. 

3. Slant

A handwriting can be a. just vertical; it stands straight on a baseline as though at 90 degrees. b. inclined to the right or c. inclined to the left. Further, it can be lightly inclined, very inclined, or acutely reclined. In general:

Leftward slant writers are emotionally cold and defiant, self-centered, and/or selfish. Overly leftward can be very emotionally sick. Extremely left slants often indicate past trauma and/or inability to move on/ recover. 

Upright/vertical slant reveals emotional reserve, suppression, and self-reliance. The person acts not with his/her heart but with the head. The person can be cool under pressure.

One’s right slant indicates compliance with people. The person is emotionally expressive. The person will act according to emotions. Here pressure levels reveal how intense the emotions are expressed. Overly right slant writer cannot control his/her emotions.

Variable slants betray mostly an emotionally unstable person.

I had a terrible time with this one because even when I superimposed a chart on it, it was still unclear which slant it follows. Rossi’s handwriting appears to go in all directions however it is seldom on the extreme ends(ie, acutely inclined to the right or acutely reclined to the left. Both of these are “abnormal” and rare.) 

If we write with an unstable slant, we feel pulled in different directions. An unstable slant is a wobbling slant. At one moment the person is affectionate and at another moment he is aloof. The more unstable a wobble, the more unstable is the writer. The interpretation of the slant is based on the universal concept of ‘left versus right.’ Usually, people associate the left with the past and the right with the future. If the left and the right represent the past and the future, then the centre represents the present.

4. Size

Size simply refers to whether the writing is large or small. Of course, there are many categories in size, like large, overly large, medium, small, or overly small (microscopic). It is an unfixed trait. Because, depending upon the mood, people write sometimes small and at other times big. It also depends upon the paper on which they write. 

Valentino’s handwriting again follows a somewhat irregular pattern when it comes to size. I say this because size changing over a few lines is completely normal but irregular size between words shows emotional instability.

 According to Karen Amend et al, “variable letter sizes, that is, middle zone letters ranging in size from 1116th of an inch upwards, show a writer who is emotionally off-balance a good deal of the time. Too much caught up in his own feelings, he is likely to be self-centered, overly expressive, indecisive, and childish. Those around him often find him moody and immature, but not always without charm.”

(I do not agree with this description too much but this is all i could find regarding unstable size)

The letters enlargen in the middle of the sample, especially when he mentions someone by their name. If a certain word or name becomes suddenly bigger in comparison with other words in the same line, then we can conclude that the writer has invested some emotions either positive in the person or thing signified by that particular word that got enlarged. When we hold somebody or something in high esteem, then automatically that word gets enlarged in our writing. On the contrary, if we have less regard, and think less of the person, then the word automatically shrinks.

5. Margin

NARROW UPPER MARGIN

In short, it shows informality. If your handwriting leaves a very narrow margin on the top, it is an indication that you are informal with the person to whom you write. It shows informality and familiarity. Just because you are comfortable with the person, you start writing from the very beginning. (this does match with the contents of the sample at hand)

(Not much more to say really, the margins are wide on left and right side but it doesn't favor one side, which shows a balance/peace with their past as well future)

6. Speed

Speed refers to how fast or slow one writes. It measures how quickly or slowly an individual thinks and acts, the person’s intelligence level, and finally the degree of spontaneity and honesty. When we speak of speed, we are referring to the natural speed of the writer in thought, action, and reaction. All of us have an optimum speed at which we think and act most comfortably. If one is forced for a long time to go faster or slower than the optimum speed that will end up in difficulties. Speed tells of the intelligence and spontaneity of the writer.

There are barely any signs that the sample was written in a rushed or sloppy manner. He does leave a few large gaps in between which indicate uncertainty and the writer is possibly taking time to gather their thoughts before putting them onto paper.

SPACING WITHIN WORDS

The distance that the writer places between the letters shows how he relates on a personal level to other people. Valentino’s handwriting shows more or less balanced and normal spaces within words. There is occasional tanglin but not to a concerning degree.  A normal, well-balanced spacing within the letter shapes and between them shows a personality that is balanced and flexible in relationship to others, with the ability for both closeness and reserve where appropriate.

The space left between the written words represents the distance that the writer would like to maintain between himself and society at large. This is the most complex thing in graphology to me personally but to oversimplify, the three zones and what aspects they relate to are as follows:

People can have a writing that is balanced across all zones or they may have a dominating zone. Valentino’s handwriting is overall middle zone dominant. This is a somewhat pessimistic and outdated view of this trait(and respectfully I hate it <3). Most students today actually tend to have this type of handwriting and it’s quite common. While it is a somewhat “childish” trait, it may show the person’s extroversion and general concern over daily concerns. (This view is what I believe in more than the weird self-centred blah blah explanation.)

9. Printing & Cursive Writing

To oversimplify, print writing = intellectual/methodical person/head-over-heart or trying to be coherent. Cursive = fast/connected thoughts. 

Valentino mixes these two and it is considered an example of efficient breaks in print-cursive handwriting. It is quite common and indicates that the writer is intelligent, succinct, efficient, direct and fast, and simple in writing.

10. Connecting Strokes

(This was another aspect I had a hard time with because I am so out of touch with the knowledge I used to have.)

There are 4 types of connecting strokes: garland, angles, thread, and arcades.

—> that’s bullshit however, considering in the 1997 musical sound track (the most recent one i can get my hands on) there are more songs convincing Henry that he should carry on than their are dissuading him (considering they cut board of governors). allow me to list examples and why it’s stupid that he’s a man who was dissuaded but chose to walk a danger game path anyways.

—> firstly, his best friend Gabriel John Utterson, deeply trusted and level headed with a good moral compass “Henry you have come too far, remember what you have a stake” and “you’ve got to see it through” both stated in a song called “pursue the truth”. this song is heavily pivotal as it inspires Henry to continue when he wouldn’t have otherwise due to pressure from the board of governors of st jude’s hospital. In this song he was not told that going forward would be dangerous, John likely knew exactly what Henry was doing but wholeheartedly encouraged him, Henry trusted his judgement. He was not dissuaded.

—>Emma and Lisa, for the sake of coherency I’ll be referring to her as Emma as i’ll be using the newer soundtrack for this discussion. His wife to be, who he’s supposedly madly in live with; spends all of “i must go on” encouraging his pursuit of science, encouraging him to carry on his work. In lines like “when this all began, we knew there’d be a price to pay”, “too late to turn away”, reinforcing the idea in Henry’s mind that this is the best way forward- who cares about stuffy governors when those dear and near to him have expressed clear support of his work.

—>You could hypothetically argue that neither John nor Emma truly knew the extent to which Henry was going with his experiments, not truly understanding what he wanted to or was trying to achieve. However, if that was the intention the writers should’ve made that more overt considering later in the play they heavily emphasise the theme and idea that Henry has, quote “gone too far”, a phrase repeatedly used. Instead they lead the audience also view this as an honourable goal, due to the growing support of Henry and the audiences like of the characters at this point in the play.

Through the removal of Lanyon, the central conflict and core flaw of Henry Jekyll as a character has been removed, if he has no close friend to strongly and brutally disagree with him, it was no long *his* flaw that he carried on, it was no longer his fault, as the blame could be feasibly shared between him and those who encouraged him, shifting the play and narrative from a criticism of society in that extremism whether it be for or against change leads to a poor outcome, to being a story about how a well intentioned yet flawed scientist was misguided by his passion and loved ones, and payed the price.

-(next point because i’ve argued long enough about that.) was Henry Jekyll really as well intentioned as the play attempts to convey?

—>(Short answer, no. Long answer, potentially). Henry’s morality is heavily debatable, with it being dependant on the rendition of the play you watched, for the sake of the cohesion of the argument i’m going to be basing this entirely off of what i’ve seen of the 1997 and the 1995 plays.

—> firstly let’s discuss what the writers intended, or at least my perspective on what they were aiming to convey. within the opening scenes, we are greeted with Henry and his unnamed(?) father who is stuck in a mental asylum for reasons we as an audience are not privy to, Henry sings “lost in the darkness” a song establishing his motivations and goals as a character. I believe that the intention here was to give the viewer the impression that Henry as a character and person is moral and good, becoming misguided in his efforts to achieve his goals and save his father, eventually sacrificing himself for the sake of the safety of society, once the monster of his own well intentioned creation consumes him. So as a character it could be argued that he is moral. However i what the writers intended and what they conveyed are hugely different.

—> Due to the placement of Henry’s motivation being at the beginning of the play, the intention was likely to hook the audience into liking him as a character, forcing them to see how well intentioned he is before exploring his flaws and then eventually having him sacrifice himself to show his respectable morality as a character. However, by closely following this with “board of governors” (and the 1997 equivalent assumedly) we are hit with the whiplash of what was presented as a good person, and the man who argues with the board. Due to how bitter and cruelly he acts in a futile attempt to gain funding(?) and support for his project, the audience may rightfully assume that his kindness was a facade (especially since facades and the duality of man are central themes) and that Henry’s true colours are shown within this situation. If the writers truly intended to establish his perfect morality, they should have had Henry visit his father, and “lost in the darkness” take place after Henry is refused by the governors, so that his rage and refusal to take no for an answer is a shown to be a result of his stress and care for his father- not his questionable morality. This is because the audience will retain things that happen later in the play best, using them to form their impressions, so by shifting the placement of this scene it shifts the presentation of the character as a whole. But that is not what we are here to discuss.

—> Henry and Lucy. Another instance of Henry’s good morality working against him, as despite entering with the intention to find a test subject- he leaves having given Lucy his business card(?) and offering her support due to her situation. This eventually leads to her death, but it is another instance of his good morality, there were no strings attached to this aid, as Henry was a soon to be married man, and there is no implications that he finds her attractive (if you are to follow the play’s implications that Jekyll and Hyde are truly separate beings). So clearly you could argue that his morality is good, right?

—> Hyde. From a scientific standpoint, matter cannot be created or destroyed, going from that perspective, Hyde’s intentions cannot have just appeared-they had to be fuelled by Jekyll’s innermost desires and thoughts, especially since Hyde goes after those who have wronged Henry during “murder murder”. So the murderous impulses, the sketchy behaviour and outright illegal behaviour towards Lucy came from Jekyll. However this doesn’t make Henry an immoral character.

—> Humour me for a moment while i discuss the concept of the id. So freud (yes that freud) had a theory that stated that humans were comprised of three parts that all worked together, the id the ego and the super ego. The id was your animalistic urges and desires, your superego is societal expectations for the most part, acting as your selflessness. With the ego balancing the two; preventing you from donating all of your money to charity and putting you on the streets, and preventing you from going on a murder spree, killing the upper class. Within the original novel, Hyde is implied to be without the ego or superego, merely the embodiment of Jekyll’s id. So now comes the debate, is a person immoral for having immoral desires, if unacted upon?

—>Therein lies the conflict, as whether or not immoral desires mean an immoral person or character. Personally i believe no, the average person will have immoral thoughts from time to time, the true evil comes from how such desires are dealt with. So while Hyde is evil, despite being based upon Jekyll, you cannot state that that makes Henry evil in turn. Paired with the potential that Hyde is a twisted version of Jekyll’s own desires (for example Henry wants revenge against the governors-Hyde interprets that as murder, whilst Jekyll implies showing them that he was right).
