 for our convenience I have divided the headcanons in three separate categories, starting from least to most sad and ending with a sweet one. :D

First of all: trigger warning for alcoholism and mentions of sexual/physical abuse. Here I wanna state that I personally don’t like demonizing Lila about what she did to the twins. Honestly, to me she reads more as one of those parents who are still children themselves, rather than a malicious woman who went out of her way to hurt her kids on purpose.

 Second, let me start by saying I have this FC for Lila that suits my image of her PERFECTLY but I can’t find more pictures of the woman depicted, because she’s some Greek singer with a very small following. ( sCREams )

                                  lukewarm sad:

  Lila’s aesthetic is opulence. But because she’s poor as dirt, the stuff she chooses to ‘decorate’ her home with are usually really cheap bling bling that she finds at street bazaars. Because she’s very lonely and emotionally numb, she likes to fill her house with shiny things she can look at and delude herself with. 

  She wears really heavy perfume and accessorizes a lot ( her fingers are practically covered in rings at all times ) . Lila dresses in a very sexualized fashion, without any real sense of what’s aesthetically pleasing. Her clothes are cheap and sometimes... don’t really fit her. ( Jerome fatshames her on the regular for this ) A thing that says a lot about her psyche is that, even though she’s always enveloped in this ‘nice’, extravagant wrapping, her body is very neglected. She’s a bit on the plump side, but because of her age + malnutrition + lack of exercise, it makes her look wrinkly and lumpy ( yes she has neck wrinkles and that’s actually canon )

  Lila will drink pretty much anything available and she often starts drinking in the morning. The smell of booze plus cologne is an especially revolting one, coupled with the fact she smokes as well. When she eats, it’s usually really low quality junk food, save for the times Zachary would bring something home from work for them.

Lila isn’t a horrible cook. When the twins were younger she could cook up a decent goulash. She knows some Russian ‘mom’ recipes, passed down from one generation to the other, but, as she grew up next to Zachary herself and he would most often take care of the kitchen, she’s not very experienced. As time goes by and she descends further in her addictions, Lila stops cooking or buying groceries all together and starts eating outside by herself, leaving no option for her sons but to learn how to prepare their own meals.

Lila and Sheba (the snake)  spend a lot of time together during work and often in the house as well. It’s not unusual for Lila to have forgotten Sheba in the caravan and the snake to have nested in a pile of dirty laundry. Fortunately for everyone in that trailer Sheba has a very calm temper and is accustomed to humans handling her. Lila, despite being the one to handle her most, leaves the ‘gross’ parts ( such as feeding, cleaning the cage ) of being her owner to her sons instead.

               pretty damn sad:

 Contrary to popular belief, Lila doesn’t have an explosive temper. When she’s sober; she’s actually rather catatonic.  She throws fits, of course, especially under the influence, but unless drunk she’s not likely to pick a fight. It is Jerome who antagonizes her 25/7 and Lila’s prefered method to deal with it has always been going to Zachary and crying about how horrible Jerome is so that Uncle Zach would reprimand him. However, she’s not above throwing things at him during her fits ( their caravan looks like a mess all the time ) and she’s been physically abusive towards both twins when they were younger. Growing up it became harder for her to beat Jerome up because he could fight back. But she can get creative sometimes, much like her brother, and, say, grab the clothing iron to slap him with.

 Lila doesn’t refer to Jerome as her son. She’s stopped doing so ever since Jerome was in primary school. He calls him by his first name. When Jerome does something ( or Lila thinks he does something ) to Jeremiah, Lila tells him things along the lines of  “ Stay away from my son! ” as if he’s a stranger. Jerome doesn’t call her mother either. Around other people he will most often refer to her as simply ‘her’ or with an insult and when addressing her he doesn’t use any particular name. Just ‘you’. She’s much closer with Jeremiah, however, probably because he doesn’t antagonize her.

really sad tbh:

  She and Uncle Zachary are too close to each other, with Zachary being very controlling towards her ( a behavior Jerome later on displays towards his brother, in imitation ). But Lila, through the years, has developed a dependence on him. He is her big brother, who will take care of things for her when she’s in trouble etc etc. Zachary is also rather possessive of Lila; he likes to know the guys she sleeps with and has often acted as a pimp to her in the past. Clearly he doesn’t care about what she does to make ends meet, but he does stick his greasy hands in her earnings under the excuse of ‘she’s not responsible enough to handle them herself’.

  In the past Cicero had not only shown her some genuine affection, he had also helped her financially. But there’s a darker side to that, because Lila wasn’t genuinely attracted to him. In a sense, he groomed her. And when she realized that, she felt deeply ashamed - though not ashamed enough to stop sleeping with him immediately. These days, however, she seems to avoid him as much as she can.

sweet :

 One of the few ‘family traditions’ Lila has with her sons consists of gathering in front of the TV and watching soap operas together. Jerome and Jeremiah would most often be comfortably snuggled up together besides her as kids. Growing up, Miah would sit next to their mom as a separating barrier between her and Jerome. They don’t talk during the soaps, but they do call each other when the show starts. After Miah leaves the home, the tradition slowly begins to fade.

EDIT : forgot to mention that the soaps headcanon came up in a convo with @/craftedsanity. I don’t remember if it was him or me who came up with it, so, to give credit where credit is due we’re gonna say it was him. But it’s such a good headcanon I couldn’t help it and I’ve incorporated it to the backstory ok, don’t judge me I like bittersweet things. :D

I just assumed she wasn't feeling good. I was too young at the time. I even had a matching Big Bird chair. They were little and furry just like the real puppets. That's why I liked the chairs the most.

Her 2nd batch of kittens, were 3. Unfortunately they died behind the freezer, because I remember her guiding me to the garage in the new house and there were scattered dead kitten fur and there were kitten skeletons like they were caught behind the big freezer for days, their faces looked decayed and the fur was still on them. I told Dad and he said there was nothing we could do. Mom made her an outside cat because she kept going outside. So when she came back pregnant, I think mom and dad forgot she in the garage for that long. I fed her water and food sometime, but looking back we were negligent cat owners and I was young, but too worried about school and chores. Had mom and dad reconsidered to let her stay in the house again, I think we could have saved the kittens.

Their logic was, if she's always meowing by the door, asking to go outside the house where it isn't safe for her, then she should stay outside and then yall (the kids) could put her food bowl and water outside for her to get if she came back. She would gone 2-3 days at a time, depending on where she went in our suburb. We thought it was okay to do. Mom and dad just assumed she was a dirty, street cat, not a housecat.

This was maybe between 3rd and 4th grade when I saw Furina wasn't coming back. They kept going into the little forest trees in the neighborhood and behind the house.

I didn't find out until I just straight up asked Dad, "what happened to Furina?" Cause I wanted to know the truth...

And that's when he said it.

I was upset with mom when I was younger because I assumed they took her to the pet store like last time with the kittens. But it was Dad. And dropping her off in the middle of the real big forest in Florida. I could always imagine him doing it in the middle of the night so nobody would see it.

Snowball and Meno, came back to the house after I noticed she stopped coming for weeks.

And then after they saw she wasn't there anymore.

They left too.

It was sad to see them leave, because it's like they already knew. They saw my face waiting for her outside the patio door, calling for her. But she wasn't there. Meno, looked like he was upset with me. Like his owner neglected his mother, like he was so mad that he never wanted me to own him. And now that his mom was gone, the brothers left together.

I was sad too Meno, not just me. And I didn't do it. It was my mean old dad. Mom didn't care about Furina once she kept going outside. But we were the ones who taught her that it's ok to go outside, we opened the door for her when she meowed and asked at the 1st house. We just assumed that she would always come back to us.

It's like they just gave up on her, just because she wanted to go outside. Like fine then, leave, and stay out. It's sad because I wanted her to be a house cat.

I didn't want her to leave, but mom and dad did. And they didn't want to pay for a groomer and they stopped buying her flea collars.

They would try to make it fair, like I was part of the blame, because I didn't check up on her enough or didn't try to bring her back in the house fast enough when she started slipping through the slide door at the 2nd house. Cause I remember that door from mom yelling so many times "close my slide door" making sure we locked it if we were coming back in or going back outside cause of mosquitoes, bugs, lizards, and frogs could get into the house. Dad said screen door when he yelled it. Lol he was northern based, she was from a southern family, but in raised in the north too.

I think that's one of the other things I liked about Florida. All of those different kinds of bugs and things you would see outside your house or in your front yard.

Dad used to scare us when the frogs would pop up on the screen door....he would say yyyaaaahhhh like he was gasping for air. The same look the frogs 🐸 had when they would get stuck with their faces glued to the glass. The grudge, that's what it reminded me of.

Watched too many scary movies with my family at such a young age. That shit used to haunt me, to go from nice people and animals on Disney movies to scary ugly evildoers like Jeepers Creepers, Michael Meyers, The Aliens and Jurassic Park animals that could snatch you up, take your family away, or just eat you and Freddie Kreuger just looked creepy and gross to me.

And I hated Saw. That little goblin clown with the sarcastic deep voice. It confused me on why he would wanna torture people so detailedly and specific to where their body parts grew in grotesque forms or he made people manipulate their best friends and people who would even try to help them play? It was so sad and dark for 2-3hrs, no.mix in the plot just torture.

and Darius's favorite movies were Saw 1,2,3,4.

HOO BOY sorry this took me so long to get to i havent had a lot of spoons

my ocs are all a part of my original story which i still… need to title lmao. or at least, my main 3 ocs are! valére, cosette, and theodore. i have a 4th in the making named apollo but i don’t have a lot down for him yet. and a 5th one will be revealed in the future

i can try to give a description of their original canon (it’s basically like a supernatural/horror/comedy) and then talk about each of Them specifically. i actually have a pinterest board i started making for the story the other night. and the 3 of them have their own individual boards too.

first thing’s first: the setting of the story is primarily in france.

basically in the world there’s a handful of individuals who are very, very sensitive to the supernatural. you can think something like mediums/psychics, but their sensitivity is far beyond those. it starts when they’re a child, seeing supernatural things such as ghosts/spirits etc on a regular basis. each person has different reactions to it of course, but many get so used to it that they don’t realize how Not Normal it really is.

there’s also these supernatural beings i’ve been calling ‘messengers’ for now until i come up with something better. they’re neither good nor evil, necessarily, but they’re generally tasked with fighting off monsters and at times, keeping a close eye on that handful of humans because, obviously, these humans would attract anything supernatural like a moth to a flame. it can put them in a lot of danger. but their main job is to fight off malevolent creatures from the world. the messengers tend to travel between the mortal world and others frequently, and often take the shape of animals or even people. with animals, most try to pick an animal that would easily blend in. so basically birds, cats, dogs, etc. some have one animal they stick with, others change depending on where they’re going.

a lot of the monsters can’t be seen by normal humans, but normal humans can still certainly be affected by them. the monsters that these messengers have to fight off range from imps to goblins right up to thinks that border on eldritch abominations. think a lot like, monsters you’d see in bloodborne or dark souls or w/e.

also messengers can be considered “symbiotic” while demons are “parasitic”. but that’s a whole other worldbuilding post for another time.

BUT ANYWAY ONTO THE CHARACTERS THEMSELVES please be prepared for a shitton of Words and rambling

ok starting with valére. here’s his pinterest board

so valére is kinda like the Main Protag of the story. he’s the one that’s most fleshed out currently. he’s a 39 year old dude of french peruvian descent that was born in marseilles, france. his father’s side of the family were peruvian immigrants and have been in france for a few generations. his mother is french/polish, so val is mixed, but takes a lot more after his father’s side.

he’s a 6′5″ brick wall of muscle and appears intimidating at first, the scars don’t help, but he’s a giant teddybear. he’s very friendly, smiles a lot, laughs a lot, but can be a little odd with his behavior and people can think he’s a little weird because of it.

he grew up in marseilles and had a pretty cozy life. his parents weren’t Rich but were definitely upper class, so they never struggled much. the visions of spirits and whatnot were always present thru his childhood and he never thought much of them, they were just a normal occurrence in his mind. so it was easy for him to ignore them and vice versa, and it was hard for anything malevolent to feed off of him.

he did have some trouble making friends growing up though, mostly because a lot of other kids thought he was a weirdo and he sort of was but without meaning to be. just, when you grow up constantly surrounded by spirits and shit, then it’ gonna kinda shape you in a way. but he’s always been open and kind to others, and hates conflict and will do what he can to avoid it or break it up.

and he was the kind of kid that got hurt a LOT cus he had – and still has – the tendency to be rather reckless. his pain tolerance has always been crazy high. like, by the time he was 6 he had already broken an arm and a leg. he broke his leg on the playground but got back up and tried to play again as if nothing happened and his parents were like WHAT the fuck.

but anyway when he was like 9 he was walking back home from school and he found this giantass pure black owl injured in the gutter and he was like ??? because it was the middle of the city, what’s this fuckin owl doing out here, and why is it hurt? basically it’s hurt really really bad and it could very well die but he hauls this giant bleeding bird up in his arms and it doesnt even try to attack him and he carries it back home and spends hours that day taking care of it with the help of his mom and manages to keep it from dying. then the next few days he takes care of it and feeds it and after they finally released it valére swore for years it thanked him and said it would repay him some day

after that the spooky shit kinda got more intense but he never really thought much of it and just carried on and it seemed like he was the only one that could see any of it anyway. but otherwise things were relatively calm for a while

when he was 20 he was visiting some cousins out in paris. he was leaving a bar at like 3am and he was followed out by some guys. and at this point valére is already a huge dude so basically it takes 4 of these guys to properly get him down and then another slit his mouth which left him with nasty scars. there wasn’t much of a reason for it outside they were assholes and also took all of his money he had on him at the time. right after they left tho, even tho he was bleeding everywhere he got up and basically started walking toward the nearest hospital but not even halfway there someone spotted him and stopped him and called an ambulance LOL but even after that whole ordeal it really didnt put a damper on his overall positive attitude

things were quiet again for a bit but he started finding feathers around his apartment every so often and he’s like ???????

when he’s 22 things go to shit fast and he’s involved in a nasty traffic accident where a truck crashed head-on into his car, and it lands him in the hospital with gashes all over his body, spine broken in multiple places and many other broken bones, and his chance of living was very slim. if he did live, he’d be paralyzed and in a wheelchair for the rest of his life. turns out that owl he saved like 13 years before was this sort of like… spiritual/paranormal agent thing carrying out a mission disguised in that form and it got attacked by a malevolent being the day valére found it. and true to its word it repays him by basically saving his life by transferring its power/essence into him. and of course the doctors and his family things its a miracle etc etc ANYWAy

what mr owl failed to mention was that now that valére had these powers he’s pretty much kinda thrown into The Job as a messenger himself and basically has a duty of hunting down and killing the big scary evil monster demon stupid assholes so hes like cool i guess

he’s just all in all a pretty friendly well-meaning guy even if he looks kind of imposing with his scars and being a 6’5” brick wall of muscle (hes got some squish around his belly tho). and he says weird shit still sometimes and he laughs a lot. and it’s rare to catch him in a bad mood and he tends to avoid people if he is in one. he is very emotional tho and cries really easy. but even tho hes super friendly and welcoming he doesnt get close to people due to the danger of his job and he doesnt wanna wrap anyone else up in it, but even when hes asked why he dodges the question. but after now 17 years of doing that kinda work hes kind of really traumatized from everything hes seen (and also the accident and almost Dying in the hospital) but he hides it very well.

he’s the Dad Friend™

his abilities are: he’s capable of sprouting four black owl wings for flight, invisibility (but he can do selective invisibility, meaning he can make a certain person/people able to see him if he wants), he’s got cool swords he can summon at will that has a lot of powers of its own, and he can also do spatial/time manipulation but it takes a pretty big toll on his body so its kind of only for desperate measures. he can manipulate/control fire. also he can teleport i guess. but if he uses too much of his powers at once he can lose control and basically turn into a freaky monster (i keep imagining the glasgow smile scars tearing open and his teeth r sharp and theres like this black sludge coming out of his mouth… woo) and go on a rampage and then later will be back to normal but it has only happened once when he was still getting used to it and he swears Never Again (lol)

he likes bandannas (he has like 58967659 different ones and is always wearing one around his neck) and sweaters (like the bandanas he has like 58967659) and cream puffs (any pastry really but those r his favs) and cats and small dogs and classic literature and sappy romance movies. also hes gay and works at a flower shop during his free time

but yeah so she’s a 19 year old girl of romani descent, but she’s been kind of separated from the culture for a long time, since her parents died when she was young and she was put into foster care before finally being fully adopted by 11.

she’s got a lot of attitude and likes to cause trouble, because her adoptive parents are kind of strict and it caused her to have a very rebellious streak. at one point she uses their money to buy a motorcycle lmao so that’s her main mode of transportation and it’s sick as fuck. the helmet she wears while riding it has lil cat ears on it.

but she is well-meaning despite the rebelliousness and sharp tongue. she likes to crack jokes and tease the people she cares about, but will go to the ends of the earth for them.

she hasn’t had her powers as long as valére has, obviously. val has had his ever since she was still just a baby. she got her powers when she was 17, so she’s still getting used to them. she saved a cat from being attacked by stray dogs and surprise! the cat is just like the owl that val saved once. and one day when cosette gets hit by a car, the messenger offers her some of its life force. and now it sticks around with her as a cat and she calls her gigi even tho that’s not her real name

basically considering how gigi takes the form of a cat, some of cosette’s abilities are based off that, not unlike how since the messenger that val saved and vice versa was an owl so he has the power of flight and whatnot, she’s incredibly resilient, has heightened reflexes, can do Sick Parkour, always lands on her feet, and she has lil fangs that grow when she uses her powers and her eyes do Cat Things too. and her nails can turn into claws lmao. she also has powers similar to val’s like the invisibility, spatial/time manipulation, etc, but considering she’s still kinda new to it all she’s not As Powerful as val can be yet

but she meets val literally just bc they pass each other on the street one day, she senses val is The Same, and follows him back to his place DSBFHDBDFHFGF and decides she’s going to stay there and val is just like ???????? ok cool

 he’s 34. the youngest of 5 kids. his siblings were extremely mean to him throughout his childhood lmao cus they thought he was a freak. like for the first 5 years of his life he legit never spoke and was petrified by the visions of spirits and stuff he’d see. his parents didn’t know what was going on, they’d take him to a therapist and of course the therapist had no clue

so he grew up as kind of a cold and distant guy. hes very well meaning deep down but he just didnt have a happy childhood. the one relative he has a good, loving relationship with is his father. he excelled in school and was popular at first bc hes Handsome but considering his disposition it was hard to get close to him at all

and the case with him and his messenger is strange because. until he gains his powers he and the messenger had never met before whatsoever. the messenger is named vadim and takes the form of a giant black wolf. im still working out Why vadim even bothered saving him but basically, theo gets shot by his eldest brother and left to die. vadim drags theo off somewhere secluded, saves him, etc.

except vadim isn’t exactly a messenger but also isn’t a demon either. he Used to be a messenger. soemthing happened that made him Not so he kind of toes the line between them. messengers are kinda like angels in a way but on a much lower tier i guess. demons are just… demons

and this is where the symbiotic/parasitic thing comes in

bc messengers are very serious about repaying debts. it’s why val and cosette survived at all, because they had saved the lives of messengers before so said messengers saved them. and, for example, gigi pretty much lives with cosette now and cosette offers her protection and vice versa. it’s mutually beneficialmeanwhile like

if youre possessed by a demon you dont really get much out of it yourself. you’re pretty much just. a host to a parasite

and vadim is like… he isnt possessing theo but hes still feeding off of his energy despite saving him and giving him power. i havent really decided a lot on theo’s power but. he’s really strong. which is one reason vadim bothered saving him. bc he could see the fuckton of untapped potential

and a lot of it is due to his bottled up anger and hurt and whatever

{So…I started this and went ‘wait…Kacchan doesn’t have a freaking hero name, though?!’ and then came the awkward moment of ‘then wtf do I call him in this?!’ haha, so I’m sorry I had to try and scoot around without giving a name since a hero name is pretty important to the series, and is a representation of the character and their development! This is also pretty long, so I won’t be doing a part 2 in a little while (You can still request it, just remember that it wont come for a while since I have a Shinsou one to do and a part 3 of Todoroki’s!!ANYWAY, hope you enjoy! (OH A BIT OF A WARNING: attempted assault.)}

Rolling over in the your boyfriends warm covers, you face Katsuki and smile, a tear dropping onto his pillow. This time of the morning is the only time you can look at a peaceful Katsuki, but this time your broken heart aches in your chest at his parted lips and relaxed eyebrows. Last night, you told yourself, would be the last time you would spend the night with your love. Lightly, you kiss him on the nose, not worried about him waking as you knew he was a solid sleeper. He scrunched his face in his sleep and you giggle saddly, coughing lightly from your tears, and roll off the bed.

Finding your discarded clothes on the floor, you get dressed quickly and walk over to his desk, leaving the note you had written saying goodbye by his school bag. Taking one last look across the room you would never be back to, you smile lightly at the messy fluff of blonde peaking out from under his covers as he sprawls on the bed. Latching the door softly behind you, the click making your heart twinge with guilt. As tears slid down your cheeks, you walk out his house for the last time, leaving the key he gave you in his mailbox.

“No that…that can’t be right! I’ve only had sex a handful of times! And…and we used protection!” Your voice broke at the end.

“I’m sorry, but these are the facts. Look.” The doctor points to the exam results. “This is the hormone called human chorionic gonadotropin, or hCG for short. It was in your urine and your blood. When this hormone is present, it means you’re pregnant.” The doctor concluded. Your face is still, a tear drips hotly down your face. His face turns sad, reaching out he lays his hand gently on your knee, his face turned towards yours.

“I can set up an appointment for a termination consultation, if this isn’t something you wanted. You are quite young after all.” His voice is soft, trying to support you. You swallow.

“No.” You say slightly bitterly, “I’ll have it. It’s not their fault I made the decision to leave.” You breathe in deeply. Exhaling you plaster a fake smile against your cheeks. “Thank you for your time doctor!” You say, trying to convince your mind that this will be a good thing. After all, it’s the only thing you will have in connection to your lost love. The doctor gives you a small smile.

“Ok then. If you need any help, please don’t be afraid to talk to me about it. I will be here.” You both stand up, and you turn to leave the office.

“I’ll see you in a couple of months for the ultrasound. Goodbye, and thank you.” You say, exiting the clinic, a hand on your stomach. The doctor waves goodbye.

Turning on the news in the morning, you set to work on getting your daughter ready for school.

“Honey, please sit still! Your hair is hard enough to control!” You say exasperated as you brush through the tangled mess on your daughter’s head. Somehow, her hair turned out to have the same unmanageable texture as her father, but was the same shade as yours. She fidgets slightly under the brush, grumbling about how it hurts. You sigh and decide to be lazy, just pulling it all up into a frizzy bun atop her small head. Bopping the frizzy ball of hair, you smile and say you’re finished. She jumps up and smiles brightly, and starts pulling your arm towards the kitchen.

You laugh at her antics but don’t resist. As you turn the corner into the small kitchen, you ask her what she wants to eat. Your daughter starts jumping up and down yelling “EGGS! BACON! EGGS! BACON!” You giggle and open the fridge. Upon finishing breakfast, you help clean your kid’s face with a napkin. As you wipe the paper against her squishy cheeks her eyes light up.

“BOOM MAN! BOOM MAN!” She yells, excitedly jumping out of her chair to run over to the tv. You smile.

“Don’t sit so close! Geez, girl, you’re making my head hurt!” You laugh and watch as she takes a step back and flops down onto the floor in front of the tv set, her big, red-colored eyes never leaving the screen. You turn to the tv and watch as your last lover poses for the cameras, a smirk spread across his features and your heart twinges. He still looks the same as he did when you last saw him, only now he’s working at an agency.

You laugh out loud when a reporter goes to talk to him, and then gets scared when he turns to her. His attitude hasn’t change either, it seems. Shaking your head, you tell your daughter to get ready to leave. She doesn’t act like she heard you at all, but slowly makes her way to her room while running around shouting ‘boom!’ and sticking her hands out at things, imagining they’re exploding. You turn the tv off as the news lady starts talking about a hero convention going on in your town this year.

The day was pleasant; the weather was sunny, the breeze cooling, but not chilly, and there wasn’t a cloud in sight. A perfect day to take your child to the park for some fun. As you approach the open field, you look to your daughter and snicker. Her hair had broken free of its restraints and is now flowing freely on her head, the strands going all over the place, but it doesn’t matter. Her face lights up when she ran out into the open grass.

“Mom! Mom! Fireworks! Please?!” She jumps up and down, waving her hands over head making little finger guns. You laugh and point to the sky. Spark fly from your finger and shoot into the sky, exploding into little yellow fireworks. She laughs and jumps up trying to touch them, the lingering sparks falling around her. Your quirk isn’t powerful at all, but it tends to be entertaining, the colors changing depending on your mood. She runs over to you and touches your thigh.

“Tag, your it!” She then quickly runs away, laughing. “Bet you can’t catch me!” You laugh and start the chase, your longer legs catching up to her quickly. She shrieks and runs faster. She definitely got her physical traits from her father. You slow, your heart racing from the sudden exercise. After a couple of minutes of half-heartedly running around after your little girl, you finally fall to the ground. She runs over and kneels next to you, pulling out grass and laying it on your stomach while giggling. You look up at her, a smile on your face, thanking your  earlier self for deciding on having the child. You reach out and start tickling the little girl, watching as she squirms around laughing and begging for you to stop. You stand up and lift her up. Walking out of the field you ask her what she wanted for dinner, to which she almost always replied, “Meat!”

While walking past the public bathrooms at the empty end of the park, a group of thuggish men walk out. Smirking, they start to follow you, cat-calling and chuckling. Telling your little girl to not look at the men, you place your daughter on her own feet and grab her hand tightly. 

“Honey, listen to me,” You whisper, she looks up at you, her face no longer holding a smile, her eyes look worried. You continue, “What do you do when I tell you to do something?” You ask, she inhales deeply, and then without a second of hesitation, she responds.

“I follow it without question.” You smile down at her and give her hand a little squeeze. She tries to smile up at you, but it is crooked. You whisper some instructions to her.

Suddenly, a harsh hand grips your shoulder and pulls you backwards. Looking over your shoulder, you see one of the men holds a knife and the others have activated their quirks causing a change in their appearances: one has long, snake-like fingers, while another has sharp teeth peeking out from behind a sinister smile, the others’ are harder to see. You release your little girl’s hand and she runs away from the group, leaving you with the men.

“Hey! Stop!” One of them yells stepping forward. He was stopped by the guy that had grabbed your shoulder.

“Nah, let ‘er go, man, she won’t be fun to play with anyway.” He says, smirking in your face. You snarl at him. “Ha! This one has spunk!” He reaches for your face, but you step back, looking down your nose at him. You make a finger gun at his face. 

“Back up, and don’t touch me again.” You say, feigning toughness. You know that your quirk doesn’t hurt very much, if not at all, but it can be used as a distraction to buy you some time to run away. You take a few steps away from the group. The leader, who holds his hands up in front of his chest, smiles.

“Aww, come on, babe! We just wanna have some fun~” He says taking a step towards you. You hold up your other hand, pointing towards him with that one as well. He continues stepping in time with you. You ‘tsk’ and fire your sparks, the red and purple fireworks flashing through the group as they stumble into each other in chaos. You turn and start to sprint, but your arm gets yanked from behind, and you land on your butt. Gasping at the pain in your shoulder, you look behind you to see the snake-fingered man grasping your upper arm.

“That wasn’t very nice!” The leader says, leaning down to grab your chin roughly. “We were going to be gentle, but maybe you don’t prefer that?” He begins to pull at your shirt. You yell and punch at him, but he punches you in the face. “Stop makin’ such a fuss.” He leans over you and starts to pull at your shirt again, but he is suddenly thrown away from you. 

With wide eyes, you watch as the man, who was hit by a trash bin, flies through the air past his group. Everyone’s face is covered in shock. You slowly turn to look in the direction of your savior, and your face turns from shock to horror. 

“K-Katsuki…” You breathe out quietly. Attached to his leg was your little girl, tears falling down her face as she grasped tightly onto the leg of her hero. Katsuki wasn’t looking at you, and instead walked past you to stand in front of the groupies.

“The fuck are you still doing here?! You wanna die?!” He lifts his hands up, mini explosions releasing from his palms. The group screamed and ran away from him. He put his hand down, snarled, and looked down at you. He froze, his face unreadable.

“(F-F/N)…?” His voice was soft, but it cracked a little at the end. Your heart squeezed in your chest, but the moment was over when your little girl ran over to you.

“MOM!” She wailed into your ear as she tightly hugged you. You caress her head, kissing her tear-soaked cheek, whispering to her to try and calm her down. When she is finally calmed down, and her sniffles are the only thing heard, you carefully stand up. You sneak a glance over Katsuki’s direction, and flinch. His face is covered in shock and confusion, an angry frown on his lips. You sigh.

“Thank you.” You say, he flinches at your words. “You really saved me!” You smile half-heartedly, hoping he doesn’t catch the sadness in your voice. “N-now then, come on honey, let’s go home!” You start to move, but your daughter runs over to Katsuki and stares up at his face. He snarls, unintentionally down at her. 

“What, kid?” He says, his voice bitter. He takes a step back. Your daughter giggles and sniffles.

“Thank you!” She shouts, her voice scratchy from her earlier wailing, but her eyes sparkle as they take in her favorite hero. He looks down at her and a little smile appears on his face, causing your heart to ache. 

“You don’t need to thank me. It’s what a hero does.” He says, roughly petting her frizzy hair. She giggles. Then it’s like a light flickers on in her head.

“MOM! He’s coming for dinner!” She yells, grabbing his hand and pulling him towards you. Shocked at your daughter’s sudden outburst, you take a step back and look wide-eyed at Katsuki. He looks just as shocked as you, but doesn’t say anything against the idea. You swallow.

“Um…” You stare at Katsuki, but then look at your daughter, and her puppy eyes pull at your heart strings. “Huuuuughh, fine! If Bakugou-san wants to come for dinner, he can!” You say, blushing, looking away from the two of them. The little girl squeals and begins to pull Katsuki by the arm. You giggle at his face of discomfort and awkwardness, as he is being dragged by the small girl. He looks up and makes eye contact with you, but you look away quickly. 

Once the three of you make it to your apartment, which wasn’t very far from the park, you unlock the door and your daughter runs inside, releasing Katsuki from the death grip. He grumbles and rubs his hand, looking around the small front door. 

“Sorry, she can be a little hyperactive…you are her favorite hero after all.” You explain, rubbing the back of your head in apology. He growls out an ‘it’s ok’, but doesn’t say anything more. You walk into your place, and offer Katsuki a drink. He doesn’t answer so you turn back to him. 

Standing in front of the little table right inside the door, Katsuki picks up one of the several frames sitting on the top. Your face pales.

“So…it’s just you and her?” He grumbles, looking out the corner of his eye at your face. You swallow, you knew this was coming, but you were still afraid of the outcome. 

“Y-yeah…just me and her.” You try to avoid the obvious, hoping he doesn’t ask about the father. He places the picture back down calmly, his movements slow and strong. You develop a cold sweat, this uncharacteristic behavior always bothered you, and you knew he was connecting some dots in his head.

“She’s what…4?” He walks over to you, his face looking towards the floor. You nod, knowing that he can still see your movements. He looks up slowly. He opens his mouth to ask, but is suddenly interrupted by a loud screaming. The two of you turn quickly and rush into the living room. 

Turning the corner, the two of you freeze, and then seemingly deflate. Your daughter is now cheering and hollering in front of the TV, rewatching the same rerun episode of Hero, Inc. that features none other than the man who is in her house already. You slowly look over to Katsuki, and break out in laughter. His face is bright red as your little girl runs over to him, chattering question after question and different comments on how cool he is. He looks into her sparkly eyes and it’s like the last dot is connected in his mind. He places a hand over the little girl’s mouth and looks over to you. 

“You’ve got to be fuckin kidding me.” He says, his cold words cutting into your heart. Your laughter stops and the whole room turns quiet. He takes his hand away from the girl’s mouth and walks briskly over to you, a weird look on his face. He grabs your arm harshly and pulls you into a different room, slamming the door closed. Whipping you around, he pushes your back against the wall of your bedroom and slams his hand against the wall beside your head.

“Is that my daughter?” He asks, his voice low and deep. You swallow.

“Yes. She’s yours…ours.” You answer, your voice strong, but tears threaten to fall from your eyes. He looks down, and you can no longer make out his expression.

“Why…why didn’t you tell me?” He whispers, sounding hurt. “Why did you leave?” He asks, the last word cracking a bit. You swallow your tears. Reaching up, you place your hand against his cheek and find it slightly damp. You breathe in a shaky breath and bring his face up to look him in the eyes. Your answer was cut off when you heard his cellphone ring in the emergency tone. His body twitched at the sound. You smiled lightly and placed your other hand on his other cheek.

“Answer it.” You say. He nods and picks up the phone, backing up a little from you. He growls a response into the phone.

“Yeah. I’ll be there in 5.” He says, slamming a finger down to hang up. He doesn’t look at you. “I have to go.” He rushes out of the room, and you chase him. As he is putting on his shoes, and your daughter grabs your pants leg asking what’s going on, you speak.

“Katsuki.” He freezes in his movements and looks up, his eyes telling you how confused he is on the inside. You smile. “We are free every weekday after 5, and weekends.” He smirks, and sighs, closing his eyes.

“Ah.” He says and gets up to open the door. “I’ll see you soon.” and he closes the door behind him leaving the house filled with silence. You look down at your daughter, and she looks up at you, her red eyes blinking in confusion. You giggle and rub her head. 

{Can I just say that as I reread this, I was thinking that a side story of Katsuki getting approached by the daughter would be so funny! If anyone wants that, just ask! Sorry it was so long haha

Not Me Without You: Chapter 1

OK so this took me like almost a month,I’m not finished obviously but i’m posting this in chapters because its Sooooooooo long. This was supposed to be a one shot, sorry.

summary: Today is Richie Tozier’s 16th birthday, he is assured today will be a good day by Eddie, but as he watches a speeding car heading straight for Eddie in the middle of the street, his thoughts on how his day would go quickly changed.

Pairings: Ben x Beverly, Stan x Bill, Richie x Eddie.

Chapter 1| Chapter 2

Today was Richie Tozier’s birthday. He was turning 16 but his parents couldn’t care less. He got up 1 pm just like any other summer day and walked down stairs to his mother asleep on the couch, probably sleeping off a hangover from the night before. His father as usual was at work, making money to feed his liquid poison addiction.

He walked to the kitchen and looked in the refrigerator in hopes of finding a birthday cake or even a small cupcake. But despite his expectations, nothing. He went back upstairs after seeing there was no more milk for cereal. he changed into some shorts and a white t-shirt. He could tell today was gonna be a hot summer day and he wanted to be as cool as possible.

The phone downstairs rang and he could here his mother groan.

“uuuuuggghhh shuuuuUUUUUUTTT UUUUUUPPP!!!!!” Richie's mother yelled.

“I’ve got it mom” he said. his mother went back to sleep hearing his comment.

“Hello?”

“Haaaaaaaappy Biiiiiiiirrrthdaaaayy toooooo yoooooouuuu” Eddie sang on the other line. Richie smiled at hearing his friend singing the not so familiar tune.

“Haaaaappy Biiiiiiiiirthday toooooo yooouu, Happy BIRTHDAY dear Richiiiiiiiiiiiiiieeee...HAPPY BIRTHDAY TO YOU!!” Eddie finished the song and Richie felt himself smiling from ear to ear.

“You remembered ed’s?”

“duh Richie, You’re my best friend why wouldn’t I?”

“Well I thought I would have annoyed you enough last year to make you forget.” Richie said this jokingly but with an undertone of complete seriousness.

Eddie laughed at Richie’s comment before explaining that he would never forget anything about his “good ol’ pal Richard Tozier.”

“Got any plans today?” Eddie asked. Richie rolled his eyes.

“Do i ever have any plans other than to hang out with the biggest losers in derry?” Richie joked. His friends weren’t losers, not to him anyway. He looked up to them in ways he would never admit. Bill for leadership, Beverly for bravery, Ben for his passion with the things he does, Mike for strength, Stan for his...well he didn’t really know but it was something, and Eddie for his caring and Nurturing personality.

“meet me at the corner store by my house, I have a surprise for you.” Richie smiled and said ok. He walked out the door and thought to himself about how he thought today was gonna go. probably like every other birthday, little get together with the losers and a few presents. A good night, maybe even the best night of the year if he had a rough one.

He was determined not to let anyone bring him down today. Hopefully this wouldn’t have to be the best day of the year, but if it was he was more than happy to be spending it with his best friend Edward Spaghedward Kaspbrak.

He started walking to Eddie’s little corner store. Once inside he walked around the store to see if he could find Eddie, but he was nowhere to be found.

Richie stayed in the back section of the store for about 2 minutes before hearing the echoing ring of a bell. He looked up over the short aisles and saw an anxious Eddie Kaspbrak. He seemed to be waiting, probably for Richie. He was looking out the window and messing with his hair.

Richie Finally decided to go up to the boy and tap him him on the shoulder.

Eddie turned around and looked surprised.

“What the-...how long have you been here?” Eddie asked. Richie laughed at Eddie’s reaction.

“Not even a minute ed’s don’t worry.”

“Oh ok, good. I thought I was gonna be here earlier but my mom was interrogating me so it took longer than I thought.”

“It’s ok Eddie, you know I’d wait for you until the end of the world.” Eddie blushed and Richie smiled at knowing what his actions could do.

“So what’s my surprise?” Richie asked excitedly.

Eddie made a guilty expression and looked at Richie.

“umm....about that..”

“you forgot it?”

“No um...my mom took my money because she said she didn’t want me to spend it on anyone unless it was myself and I already told her it was to buy you something.” All Richie could do was just nod. He hated the way his friends with normal-ish parents viewed Richie. Troubled, annoying, bad influence. And it wasn’t the fact that Eddie didn't get him a gift that made his next actions happen, it was the fact that none of his friends parents treated him like he was a good friend of their kids. He wasn’t told “you’re more than welcome to come over anytime you want” or “we love you like our own child” or “you are now apart of this family”. He was never loved by any other parents let alone his.

“I’m really sorry Rich...it’s my fault, I shouldn’t have sai-” Eddie was cut off by Richie’s cracking voice.

“its ok- *coughs* It’s ok ed’s, really you couldn’t help it” Richie’s eyes quickly took on a glossy look and he felt a small pain crawl up his throat. He quickly suppressed his urge to cry. It wasn’t a thing that Richie did willingly. Nobody in the Group had seen Richie cry Except Eddie and Stan.

Eddie had found him sitting at the top of the ledge they usually jumped from into the quarry. He stood behind him for a few seconds preparing himself for what might happen.

Eddie sat next to him and saw him looking out onto the water, tear streaming down his cheek. “nobody cares...” was the first thing Richie said.

Eddie knew not to say anything, just to listen. Sometime the worst possible thing you could do to someone who vents to you is to tell them a solution to their problems, instead of letting them be upset.

“I could jump right now into the shallow end and if i died, nobody would care.” Eddie knew not to speak but his urge overpowered his will to stay quiet.

He hated seeing Richie sad. There was a few times that Eddie caught his friend off guard but he was never crying. He instinctively put his hand over his friends to comfort him.

“I would.”

Richie looked over at Eddie. He didn’t smile, he didn’t make any facial expression. He just stared at Eddie. The smaller boy didn’t know what to do so he just smiled.

“You have me...I’m Eddie spaghetti remember?” Richie took his glasses off, still looking at his friend.

Eddie wiped away Richie’s tear. “I know we aren’t really that close Richie but...I care. I always laugh at your jokes whether I show it or not.”

“from now on, your pain is my pain. No more acting like you’re ok when you’re clearly not, no more crying by yourself, no more being miserable by yourself. If you wanna be miserable then come be miserable with me.”

Richie gave Eddie a small smile. He pulled his hand away from under Eddie’s. Eddie thought he had weirded out his friend, but Richie ended up putting his hand in Eddie’s.

“You know i never thought you liked me all that much Ed’s”

Eddie laughed and gave Richie a playful punch on the shoulder.

“Richie I tried not to like you, believe me. But the thought that someone the polar opposite of me could be feeling the same things and thinking the same thoughts gave me hope that I could have an actual friend.”

Both the boys smiled and Richie finally had hope that he could actually be happy again.

Stan saw him cry whenever they watched Beaches. And at first it was funny because Stan was secretly crying too but whenever Richie was crying, it seemed way too intense to just be from the movie. Stan let Richie cry on his shoulder for about 20 minutes after the movie ended. He comforted him while hearing his sobs, feeling him shake, seeing him let out so much emotion at such an opportune moment that ended up lasting longer than he hoped. after Richie was finished he looked up at Stan.

“*sniff* thanks...don’t tell...please.” Stan nodded his head and they never spoke of it again. Stan may have always acted like he didn’t like richie but they were actually pretty close before he started getting closer with Eddie. After that they kind of drifted from each other. Richie always regretted leaving stan in such a bad way, it felt as if he had just cheated. But he never thought about it too much seeing as stan acted cool sometimes despite the light insults and common eye rolls.

Eddie grabbed Richie’s arm as a way of comfort.

“Hey, remember your pain is my pain.” Richie nodded and rubbed his eyes a little bit.

“It doesn’t matter what my mom thinks about you tozier, it should matter more what I think about you.”

“And what do you think about me?” Richie asked playfully.

“I think you’re a pain in the ass.” the boys both laugh before Eddie continues his sentence. “But you’re a pain in the ass I can’t live without.”

Richie looks up and puts his hand on his chin.

“hmm so you need me to give you pain in your ass in order for you to live? i guess if it depends on your life ed’s, I’m doing this for you.” Eddie punches his arm hard but he’s not strong enough to hurt Richie that bad.

“shut up trashmouth you know what i meant.” the boys laugh and leave the store with nothing in their hands.

“we’re going to the quarry until late tonight so we could celebrate.” Richie gave a half smile towards the ground. He was honestly so appreciative of his friends and the way they cared for him better than anyone who was supposed to, actually did. He always wants to hang out with any of them because they made him feel happy. sometimes even the happiest he’s been in a while.

“Ok. Hey let's cross the street right here i want some ice cream.”

“k” was all Eddie said before pressing on, not bothering to wait for his friend.

“I’ll catch up I gotta tie my shoe”

Eddie nodded and pressed on. He was almost to the middle of the street when he heard his watch start to beep.

Time to take my pills. He thought.

He took a long blue capsuled assorted box out of his fanny pack and had some trouble opening it. When he finally did open it, it was with so much force that it caused him to drop almost half of the pills on the road.

He bent down to pick up his pills with his back against the oncoming traffic side of the road. Richie looked up after hearing a pop and saw eddie bend down to pick up his pills.

“Dude! Get out of the street Eddie!” Eddie looked behind him for any oncoming cars but saw nothing.

Eddie continued to Pick up his pills, slowly, putting them back in the boxes they’re supposed to go. Eddie felt like he needed his pills despite finding out that they do nothing for him because he isn’t actually sick.

about 10 seconds go by and Richie is just watching from the sidewalk hoping he doesn't see a car come from behind eddie.

*Crash* *Screech* Richie turned his head to the left and saw a wreck in the middle of a stop light. Eddie and Richie both sighed in relief.

Richie looked back at Eddie as he continued to pick up his assorted pills. Richie looked behind him and saw a car coming from behind eddie.

“Get out of the street!” Richie yelled.

“I’m almos-” Eddie didn’t get to finish his sentence before he heard a honk and then screeching tires come from behind him. He stood up and looked behind him and saw a car coming faster than what seemed like a speeding bullet.

He closed his eyes tight from instinct thinking it might not hurt as bad if he doesn’t see it happen. He felt a heavy impact on his side and pain surged through his whole body when he hit the ground. Everything was moving in slow motion. He felt the wind through his hair as he was flying to the ground and he felt his body hit the ground slowly before feeling immense pain.

He opened his eyes, expecting to see blood, broken bones, possibly even nothing.

But to his surprise he didn’t see any of that. He opened his eyes and saw Richie laying above his body. He heard Richie breathing hard, Eddie just stared at the boy on top of him in shock.

In a desperate attempt to speak, Eddie opened his mouth. But the only thing that came out was a small croak. He had almost died.

I should have died. I saw the car almost hit me, I closed my eyes for not even 3 seconds, how am I alive?

I should be dead...

“Eddie?” Richie spoke in an attempt to get his friend out of his shocked state.

Eddie looked around and then back at richie, his vision slowly fogging up before releasing a single tear.

Eddie’s bottom lip begins to quiver and he puts his arms around Richies neck and pulls himself up into a hug. Richie uses one one arm to hug eddie and uses the other one to support both of their weight

“I-I’m dead...” eddie says into Richie’s shoulder.

Richie pulls away and looks into Eddie’s eyes.

“No Eddie, your-...you’re ok, look” Richie gets up and points to the road.

He kneels down next to eddie who is now sitting up.

“See? No blood, no bones, no Eddie. You’re right here.” Richie gently pushes his finger into Eddie’s chest.

Eddie looks down, sees his intact body and feels his face for any broken bones.

“What happened?” Eddie asks.

“I pushed you out of the way” Richie responded.

“So-So I didn’t die?”

“No. I promise.” Richie said comfortingly.

He stood up, towering over the boy and held his hand out for Eddie to grab.

Once he had a hold of Eddie, he pulls him up.

“Hey kid are you alright?!” The man in the speeding car asked. He had gotten out of the car while Richie was talking to Eddie.

“Uh- ya I-I think so” Eddie replied.

“Good! next time don’t stand in the middle of the road, I almost totaled my car because of you!” Eddie looked at the man with a mixed expression. Half confused, half upset.

Richie looked appalled. He was about to go off on this stranger who almost killed his best friend, but was interrupted by Eddie.

“Excuse me!? This road right here” Eddie pointed down the way the stranger came. “Is completely straight for another mile back.” Eddie stated blatantly. “If you would have hit me, it was because YOU weren’t paying attention dumbass!”

Richie looks back at Eddie with an astonished expression.

“Yeah well-...” He was tongue tied. Both Richie and Eddie saw the mans face fade into a shade of red that could only be caused by stubbornness.

The stranger stormed off in a fit of rage, not wanting to accept the fact that he was wrong. He got in his car, closed the door, and drove off recklessly fast.

“Don’t worry about him Eddie, I’m just glad you’re okay.” Richie adjusts his glasses while looking at Eddie.

“C’mon let’s go to the quarry, forget about the ice cream I’m sure everyone else is waiting for us right?” Richie asks. Eddie just nods his head in response.

The boys walked to the quarry from the unfortunate pit stop they made. Richie glances over at the unusually quiet boy right next to him, wondering what was going on his head. Eddie notices his friend sending looks his way but ignores them. He was too busy thinking about how the rest of the day would have gone if he had been hit by that car.

“Do you wanna tell the others? About that guy i mean.” Richie asks. Eddie doesnt even look in his direction before shaking his head. He knew it would take away the focus from the day that was supposed to be all about Richie. He didn’t want to do that to his friend. Little did he know that Richie couldn’t care less about his birthday. The only thing that made those days special was his friends, more importantly Eddie.

When the boys arrived at the quarry they were greeted at the top of the cliff by their friends.

Richie smiled at the sight of all his friends together in one place specifically for him. However when he looked over at Eddie, he saw the boy looking off into space with a blank expression until Mike came up to him and greeted him. He noticed Eddies face make smiling and happy movements, but he could tell Eddie didn’t mean a single smile he put out. Eddie wasn’t trying to let Richie know he wasn’t happy. This day was all about him, not Eddie.

“Hey trashmouth, we got you a birthday cupcake, see?” Bev pulled a white frosted sprinkled cupcake from behind her back and put it in front of Richie.

Richie grinned, what looked like, from ear to ear. He loved birthday desserts.

“W-We’ve gotta light it fi-first.” Bill managed to get out. “Did an-anyone bring a lighter?” he asked.

“Oh, I did!” Ben said. He went to his backpack that was sitting against a rock and pulled out a small lighter. Nobody knew it but the reason he had a lighter was so that Beverly would always ask him to light her cigarettes. He knew she would always remember he had a lighter, he didn’t find smoking attractive unless Beverly was the one doing it.

Ben went back up to Bev and gave her a small glance before stroking the small thumbwheel, causing a flame to rise.

Once the candle on the cupcake was lit, the group started to chant the lyrics to the “happy birthday” song.

“Happy Birthday to you, Happy Birthday to you, Happy Birthday dear Richiiiiieee, Happy Birthday to yoooooouuuu” they all sang in unison including eddie. Richie occasionally directed his gaze over to Eddie who was also singing. He didn’t seem to be looking at Richie though, it seemed as if he was singing along instead of to Richie which hurt him a little bit.

Once they were all done bev said, “Okay make a wish Mr.16 year old!”

Nothing could possibly ruin the fact that I was about to climb into a nice warm bubble bath and have a glass of wine from one of the most expensive bottles that Junmyeon owned.

Bang Bang Bang

“Whatever you’re doing in there, finish up! Junmyeon needs you in the living room now!” Minseok yelled through the door.

Expect maybe his voice...his voice could ruin that moment. Wrapping my bathrobe around myself I made my way to the living room where I saw something that I definitely wasn’t expecting to see.

“Why is there a small child in the living room?” I questioned, looking at Junmyeon.

“I need to talk to you about that,” he said, looking extremely guilty, “There was an incident when we went to confront the guy would was giving information to the police.”

“What and you kidnapped his kid?” I questioned.

“No...his wife...the boy’s mom...jumped in front of my gun...” Junmyeon said.

“Is she....” I trailed off not wanting to alarm the small boy who was having fun pretending he was an airplane up on Chan’s shoulders.

“Yes...both of his parents are,” he replied, “Y/N you remember how I told you that I don’t hurt women and children.”

“Yes...well you don’t hurt them physically,” I said.

“Right....” he said with a sigh, “I need your help.”

“With?” I questioned.

He looked towards the boy and then gestured his hands like the answer was obvious. “When women get around kids don’t their maternal instincts kick in?”

“I don’t know...I was around like two kids in my life and then I deal with all of you...” I stated.

“Well...while I try and find a place for him...he’ll need someone to care for him. Think you can do that for me?” he questioned.

“You say that like it’s a question, but I’m guessing it’s more something that I have no choice in the matter...”

“Pretty much...”

I sighed and walked into the living room. Upon seeing me, Chan set the boy on the ground and he looked up at me with big, sleepy eyes. “Hey buddy, my name’s Y/N....what’s yours?” I questioned.

He just blinked at me for a moment before speaking. “Where’s my mommy?”

“Oh well....” I sat down on the couch and thought for a second, “Your mommy had to take a trip somewhere and she asked us to keep an eye on you so that you were safe.”

“Oh...” he said, “Why didn’t she say anything?”

“Well she....” I stopped not quite sure what to say to that. I never knew my mother so I didn’t know how to break the fact that his mother left without a word because she made a rash decision that got her killed. Truth was I probably couldn’t break that to him without completely crushing him. He probably wouldn’t even understand at this point. He was what? Three? Four? He probably didn’t know all his numbers...how was he supposed to understand this?

I felt a hand on my shoulder and Baekhyun leaned down to whisper in my ear. “I looked up his birth certificate...his name is Jinwoo, he’s four...”

I gave a small nod and he moved away and I looked back at Jinwoo. “You look sleepy, are you ready for bed?” He thought for a second and gave a nod. Standing back up I held out my hand my hand to him. “Let’s get you ready for bed then.”

Kai held out a bag out to me. “I grabbed some clothes and toys before we left the house....”

“Thanks,” I said, taking it and leading Jinwoo down the hall, “You get to stay with me tonight...is that ok?”

He shyly gave a nod as I led him to my room. He almost seemed memorized by the size of the bed and all the pillows and fluffy blankets that were on it. “This is your room?”

“Mmhmm,” I replied, as he felt the blankets with his hands, “Do you need to go potty before bed?” He nodded and I led him to the bathroom and went to grab the step stool that I kept in there so that he could use it and when I turned around I saw him reaching his arm over the side of the larger soaker tub and playing with the bubbles and water. “Have you had a bath tonight buddy?”

He shook his head as he looked at the bubbles that clung to his hand.

“Would you like one?”

“With all the bubbles?!” he questioned excitedly.

“With all the bubbles...” I replied.

“Yes!” he said.

“Well go potty and get ready for your bath,” I said.

I didn’t take long for him to get ready for his bath and soon he was neck deep in water and bubbles. He still looked tired, but he had enough energy left in him to splash around.

“You have a bubble beard!” he said putting bubbles on my face.

“I do?!” I questioned, “Is it a good look for me?”

Laughing he put more bubbles on my face and I proceeded to put bubbles on the top of his head.

“Here you go boss,” Kyungsoo said, handing him a camping cot that he kept in storage in his apartment for any emergencies that came up, “Fill it up with pillows and blankets and it will be nice and comfy but close enough to the floor that if he falls he won’t get hurt.”

“Thanks,” he said before heading down the hall to Y/N’s room. Upon entering the bedroom was empty but there was laughter coming from the bathroom. Walking over he pushed open the door slightly and saw Y/N giving Jinwoo a bubble bath.

Junmyeon gave a small smile at the scene before him. He was truly upset about that had happened back at that house, he never meant for this to happen and this is the reason why the members of EXO came to an agreement during the forming of the mafia that women (if innocent and not a threat in any way shape or form) and children were not to be harmed. 

He backed out of the bathroom as Y/N drained the tub and began to rinse Jinwoo off. He couldn’t take back what he had done he could only do what he could to make sure Jinwoo ended up in a safe place....

~Y/N~

“And up we go,” I said, as I lifted Jinwoo onto the stool so he could brush his teeth while I finished drying him off. Once that was all said and done and he was in his PJs I carried him into the bedroom where I saw Junmyeon setting up what looked to be a cot of sorts. “What are you doing?”

“Setting this up for him...I mean, we obviously don’t have a toddler bed and he’ll be close enough to the floor that-”

“He’ll be fine with me,” I said walking over and setting the now almost passed out Jinwoo on my oversized bed. I tucked him in and pulled a stuffed animal out of the bag Kai had handed me and put it next to him and see his eyes were completely closed and his breathing steadied.

“I was just trying to help...” Junmyeon said.

I walked over and grabbed his wrist pulling him from the room. “I never said you weren’t. Look, I get you feel bad about what happened...but there is a boy without his parents and you put me in charge of him...let me do that.”

He looked at me for a second noticing my change from my earlier hesitation to now. “You do know that he won’t be able to stay, right?” 

“Of course I know that...but for right now he’s here, he needs someone to care for him, and you put me in charge of him,” I said, “Goodnight...” I walked back into the room and closed the door before he could say anything.

Over the next few days it was tough for Jinwoo to adapt to his new surroundings. He would wake up in the middle of the night crying for his mother only to have her not there. He also didn’t have many of the toys or books he was wanting and that a hyperactive four year old needed.

“I need your credit card,” I told Junmyeon causing him to choke on his morning coffee.

“Excuse you? Why? And where are you dressed to go?” he questioned, seeing myself and Jinwoo looking ready to leave the penthouse, which we were.

“We are going to the neutral territory to go to the book store, toy store, and regular store,” I said before holding out my hand, “Credit card...”

“You didn’t ask to go anywhere, and you have your own allowed money...” he said.

“I’m a fully functioning adult who just wants to buy a small boy some learning books, coloring books, a couple new toys, and needs to get some things at the general store....” I stated, “Credit card...”

“You still need an escort-”

“Sehun!”

“What?” Sehun questioned, not looking away from the video game him a Baek were currently playing.

“What are you doing today?” I questioned.

“Kicking Baek’s aaaaaaaa.....butt....kicking Baek’s butt,” he said, remembering there was a small child in the room.

“Oh good...wanna be my shopping escort?” I questioned.

“Not particularly....”

“That’s great...cause you’re going to anyway,” I said.

“What?! Who do you-aw man...you made me lose...” he whined.

“Even better...you’re not busy now....” I said before looking about at Junmyeon, “Credit card.”

He rolled his eyes and pulled out his wallet and credit card. Just as he was about to hand it to me he pulled it back. “Don’t go crazy.”

“Aw man....and I was gonna buy a yacht while I was out,” I deadpanned.

“That isn’t funny,” he said.

“Even if I did would your bank account feel the burn?” I questioned.

“Depends on the size of the boat....” he said.

I reached out and grabbed the card. “Books and toys and general stuff... that’s it...no yachts. Sehun!”

With some argument from Sehun we set off from the penthouse and walked to the neutral territory. Jinwoo held my hand as he skipped along next to me, and Sehun lagged behind but stayed near enough that if anything did occur he would be right there. 

“Pick out what you would like,” I told Jinwoo as we entered the children’s section of the bookstore. He dragged me around picking out as many books and coloring books as he could manage and then dumping them into the hand cart.

“What about you? Aren’t you getting any?” he asked looking up at me.

“No...not today,” I said as we stood in line. For some reason as we stood there I began to get nervous, like we were being watched by untrustworthy eyes. I knew that we were in neutral territory and that nothing should go down, but that didn’t make the feeling go away.

“Someone’s watching us...” I told Sehun.

He looked around. “Did you see them?”

“No...but something felt off...” I said. Jinwoo could see the worry on my face and he tugged on my pant leg.

“What’s wrong, Y/N?” he questioned.

“Nothing sweetie....we’re just gonna finish up our shopping and go home,” I replied not wanting to startle him.

At the toy store the feeling of being watched wasn’t as bad, it could have also been the fact that I was slightly distracted by constantly telling Jinwoo that he could not have every single toy that he saw. 

“You can get a few small toys or a couple bigger ones,” I said, as he dragged me down the isle.

And then he found it...

The jackpot of the toy store...

The place where he could live his whole life and never get bored...

LEGO LAND

He let out a happy scream as he ran down the isle. We ended up leaving the store with a Marvel Lego set and a bucket of mixed Legos. 

That feeling of happiness disappeared while we were at the general store. For me at least. Jinwoo had no awareness of what dangers may or may not be lurking around the corner. All he knew was that he we getting coloring books, Legos, and he and Sehun were arguing over the last chocolate fudgsicle.

“Are you seriously arguing with a four year old over a fudgsicle?” I questioned as I grabbed a paper from the crate next to the ice cream chest.

“What? I like them,” he said, distracting him just long enough for Jinwoo to jump up, swipe the fudgsicle from his hand, blow a raspberry at him, then run behind my legs.

“Looks like he won,” I teased heading to the counter to pay.

Back at the penthouse after all the excitement of new books and Lego Land and a sugar rush from the fudgsicle...Jinwoo was passed out on the couch.

“Money well spent, I see,” Junmyeon said inspecting the bucket of Legos.

“He certainly thinks so,” I said, motioning to the sleeping boy before going back to reading the classifieds.

“I guess as long as he’s entertained while he’s here I can’t-”

He stopped mid-sentence as the mug that I was drinking from crashed to the floor. “Y/N??”

I gulped before slowly looking up from the paper. “I think my father had a heart attack....”

Changes

~4/21? I think my mindset shifted a lot this past week, especially after staying with Matt and his family for a few days. Admittedly, I used to be very fearful of going outside to public spaces and be extra cautious every time I did take out. For example, my family and I have “outside clothes” and “inside clothes”. I would immediately toss my “outside” clothes into my laundry basket when I arrived home from the market or picking up food, even if I was out for just 5 minutes. My parents were against me doing any uber eats or takeout. They believed home cooked food was the best during this time and refused to eat non-homemade food. My mom left the house less than 2 times this past month. My dad is less fearful - he’s gone out multiple times a week (to buy food and for work) and doesn’t really care, but my mom and I always gave him shit for doing so. I felt like a huge hypocrite going out to see Matt, and was afraid of how my family would react. 

I’m really awkward whenever talking about love or romantic partners with my family - especially after what happened with my last parter. I’m avoidant. So I ended up only telling my mom I was going to leave to see Matt 30 minutes before I actually did pack up to go, which was very bad on my part. She was heartbroken and was super fearful and asked “can you not?”. She later called me during the car ride and told me not to come home for a month. Hearing that made Matt feel guilty, and he called my mom’s idea stupid. We got into a huge argument, with me trying to defend my family. I found out later there was some underlying resentment, where he felt like my family treats him like second-rate, which is probably my fault because I choose not to talk about partners to my family. 

4/25- it’s now been over a week that Matt has been home and I’ve seen his family every single day even on the days that we were staying at the Airbnb. Things have been kinda tense between us (I think he’s being mean to me, he thinks I’m mean to him). I realize that this is due to several issues:

- Quarantine/pandemic stresses: he’s a frontline worker in the epicenter of covid and working at one of the hardest hit hospitals. Even though he doesn’t verbally acknowledge his feelings and pretends he’s ok, he’s definitely more stressed out than usual. During this time, he’s even more sensitive to any criticism I have. He used to take it all (mostly), but he’s been retaliating more often recently. On his end, he feels that his whole life is a sacrifice, and he’s working extremely hard especially during this scary time - why do I have to criticize him during his vacation? I should just let him enjoy himself. 

-Attention: We’re staying with his family during this time, so it’s his time to catch up with everyone. He’s also catching up with his friends online. Because these are the people he rarely talks to (he calls me everyday vs. calling family for like 5 min once a week, and never calling/texting his friends), I have become last on the priority list in attention during his vacation. I keep telling myself it’s fine. However, because I’m also the person he is closest to, I feel like it’s me who puts up with his shit the most. Then I question, why do I have to be so nice to someone who is not very fit as a good partner (due to residency, especially during a time like covid), and on top of that has to be rude to me? I started feeling salty about that. 

- Lack of comfort: not to be ungrateful, but I realize that staying at someone else’s home for an extended period of time is stressful, even more so under quarantine. I’m not carefree at his home, and I feel like I have to be on my best behavior/ “professional” around his parents. I lose structure in my daily life and I always have to depend on someone else. I have a few articles of clothing I’m wearing over and over lol. His dad generously gave us his room (because it’s attached to a restroom). However, we’re sleeping on an old spring mattress that creeks with every movement. We’ve had to have quiet, inhibited sex lol. 

Anyway, I’m PMSing - 6 days before my period. I hate that I tend to PMS during the times that we have to spend together. I know my concerns are legit, but PMS can make it seem worse/more dramatic than what it is. I was watching Insecure season 4 yesterday, and there was a scene that stuck out to me. Issa’s best friend Molly (who has been single for quite some time) started dating a guy that she really likes. A few weeks later, she got upset that he wasn’t opening up to her. Issa asked something along the lines of “do you actually wanna be happy? you keep looking for problems.” Hearing that kinda put things into perspective for me, as I tend to focus on the negatives than see things as a whole.

Let’s focus on positive things:

- Having a partner in healthcare feels like having the fastpass in an amusement park. Going to costco and beating the line. Free stuff/food everyday. His mom is a PT at USC and she’s received free food, free orchids, free tangerines, etc. I stopped feeling guilty about being out for non-essential things (like going out for take out multiple times a day), because my doctor partner deserves it. When I return to my life at home, I’m not going to do this anymore. Also, he had a healthcare worker discount at the north face, and bought a jacket for me, his mom, and himself.

- Running. The men in his family are all into running. His dad is almost mid-60s and runs 5 miles multiple times a week. His teenage brother runs 7-9 miles like everyday. Matt used to run a lot too, and was the top runner in high school. That’s why even though he’s fat now, it’s only his upper body that is actually fat. His lower body still has that runner’s physique. I went out to the trail with them 3 times already. It’s hard because I have allergies in this weather, and also it’s damn hot. But I was able to run 3.5 miles last time. I’ll try for 4 today. 

- Everyday, his parents always ask him what I want to eat. They’re so accommodating, especially his dad. Tea is sacred to his dad, and he never really shared before. No one else in his family was interested in tea either. But because I showed interest and love tea, he’s been asking me multiple times a day - do you want tea? Do you want wine? LOL. He buys breakfast everyday - dimsum, burger king, mcdonalds, chinese breakfast, etc. They always make sure I am fed.

4/30 - after I wrote my last blurb, everything started going uphill. We both became more understanding of each other, and more forgiving. He became more relaxed, I became more relaxed. We were able to have fun again. to highlight the fun times that i had with him and his family:

- the first or second day i was over at his parents house, his dad offered me some tea, but i declined because it was already late and i was afraid i wouldn’t be able to sleep. i asked if we could take some tea leaves to go since were staying at an airbnb at the time. matt says he’s protective of his tea. i think he was a little shocked when i first asked him, because no one in his family is interested in tea, but he gave me like 2 bags initially. his mom was like GIVE HER MORE, GIVE HER 10. SHE IS LIKE FAMILY. i felt a little awkward but i love me some tea. 

- did so. much. takeout in 13 days. the first couple days I was still kinda paranoid about going out, but by the last day it felt like NBD to me. Got to eat poke, sugarfish sushi, nabemono hot pot, pho x3, banh mi, boba everyday, ramen x2 (men oh, ramenhood), burgers x3 (in n out, bunz, the win-dow), sugar cane x2, taro cake, yin ji chang fen, thai, philz, dim sum etc. it was reminiscent of our lifestyle whenever we went on vacation. we were still fatasses during quarantine. 

- played board games with his brother and mom. played poker with the family and his dad. his younger brother and i lost early on cause we suck, but he and his dad continued playing for another hour and a half or so - matt ended up winning. but it was very nice to see them spend time together as spending time playing games like that was never a thing in their family

- i helped his family take some cute family photos (with and without masks on). his mom likes taking family photos and usually gets to do so on family trips, but said they didn’t get any this year because of the quarantine. the boys aren’t big fans of photos either so she took advantage of me being there. i was also part of a few family photos!

- made charcuterie boards for his family. they really enjoyed it. 

- i spent some quality time with his 88 year old grandma. she mostly does her own thing (which is being babysat by an ipad), but one day i made her draw with me by following youtube tutorials - we drew a flower, mickey mouse, a cat, and a monkey together. she asked me to save a video so she can continue doing it and get better. another day, i wanted to have her write/read in english and chinese. his mom found an elementary chinese workbook and she ended up teaching me. the material was very easy and she was like “uh you’re already very good” lol. i then switched the roles and asked her to write in english - she was surprisingly very good and could write quite quickly. as an assignment, i asked her to write a letter to matt. it was precious. it took me back to the days where i would teach english to chinese seniors. i took a pic of them using my instax camera, and she really loved it. 

- watched farewell with his grandma, brother, and mom. we already watched it once before so he was sitting in the back only paying half attention. his brother was immediately into it and got emotional at times. at one point, he had to stand up and go towards the back of the room because the emotions were too much to handle. matt said his brother was tearing up. his mom said that watching their family was very relatable and it reminded her of her own family. i tried watching this film with my mom and grandma, but they didn’t get it and found it boring. it was nice to watch a chinese-american film with a chinese family to get that commentary.

- ran/walked/jogged at the trail a total of 20 miles during my stay there

- did home work outs - yoga, blogilates and peloton HIIT with him, his family and friends. we did echo park steve’s yoga one day too. his mom enjoyed peloton yoga and blogilates and asked me to save the videos for her. 

- in the first few days, his mom kept repeating “life is beautiful”. the first day, we cheered to him still being alive lol. (not funny and his mom was sleepless a few nights due to worrying, but i think it’s gonna be ok)

- news so I can remember: 3 programs in cali reached out to matt during his vacation, asking if he’s still interested in interviewing for a PGY-2 program. loma linda was one of them and would have been an amazing program to be a part of. it was a very hard decision, but he declined. he had already signed a contract with brooklyn, and this would require him to speak to his program director about his interest in switching programs. not a good look if you don’t actually get into the program. 

- his parents (moreso mom) is an avid, adventurous traveler. they had plans to go to africa this year and talked about rescheduling. she included matt and i in the plans to go next year and said “the four of us”. matt brought up norway instead, since that’s more doable. so we settled on going to norway as a family. 

- went with matt’s dad to drop him off at LAX yesterday morning at like 6:30am. he then dropped me at home, and officially met my mom for the first time. they shook hands and he told my mom “connie is so nice”. LOL. 

After coming home yesterday, my mom bombarded me with questions about matt and his family. and then asked about our future and whether we are thinking of marriage. she is against me moving to nyc during this pandemic, and i hate how uncertain everything is right now. she also thinks that i should be engaged before i uproot my life to move over to be with him. i agree to an extent, but i also understand if he is not ready. it is crazy that we have now been long distance longer than being together in person, and with this pandemic, i’m not sure how long that’s gonna continue. i found out that my mom feels ashamed of me going to stay at a boy’s house for that long. a boy i am not engaged/married to. she doesn’t say it but the actions make me seem slutty to traditional people. she hid the information from my brother and SIL - i think because she would be ashamed if the info leaked out to her parents. that is why she keeps pushing the idea of marriage/engagement on me. 

I took yesterday to kinda get used to being back at home, and felt quite sad to detach from my “second family”. In a way, even though it wasn’t always comfortable or easy, I at least felt I wasn’t stagnant. It was like a “bootcamp” to fit in with someone else’s family, their routines, and their daily lives. I’m also happy that I was pushed to run. They eat pretty heavy food, and they all overeat, but they also exercise a lot. My family portions well and eats very clean, but has milder workouts. Sometimes they intentionally skip meals to lose/maintain weight, whereas my family would throw a fit if we didn’t have food at a certain time. Their family is larger (130-190lbs), whereas my family is like (110-150 lbs)? After coming back home and eating my mom’s very clean food, I felt it wasn’t as tasty and I started craving heavier food lol. I think it would be beneficial for me to eat/live like their family for a few months (to gain weight and be stronger), and for matt to eat like my family to lose weight. 

When we were eating takeout ramen one day, his mom mentioned that he never used to eat carbs. When he was at home and had a workout routine, it was just protein and veggies. I realize that without me, he probably wouldn’t be such a fatass lol. He said he would probably be too lazy to go out to eat, especially if he didn’t have a partner. I remembered that before meeting me, his diet would be soylent and protein bars. We’ve come a long way.

Anyway, I’m finally getting back into my routine at home. It’s kinda boring now, but I’ll adjust. I did only the minimum for work these past two weeks, and now UC Path is down for a week, meaning I can’t really do much work. I’m taking a half day tomorrow, using COVID admin pay. My tomato plants grew a lot. My ginger may have sprouted a little, but my strawberries seem like they’re a fail. Finally applied for PUA for my uncle, hope he will be receiving a paycheck soon. Supposed to get my period really soon so I’ve been feeling pretty lazy. I may start running outside on my own. 

I’m worrying less about covid now. I used to freak myself out by reading the news everyday and following the subreddit, but looking at statistics, I feel ok.
