iâm FINALLY ready to be serious and take care of myself so I can be the best version of myself. I also want to be more feminine with my looks and how i carry myself. Any tips? thank you!
Hi there! First, I want to say how proud I am of you for deciding for yourself to become more in tune with your femininity. Here are some tips I can offer personally that might help you on this journey.
Become a more eloquent speaker.
Some people will say that to be feminine you must have very soft-spoken, but that's not the case. If you look at some feminine icons such as Dorothy Dandridge, Jane Russell, and Rita Hayworth, they had deep, sultry voices that were alluring and very feminine.
Make sure when you speak, youâre saying your words as clearly and evenly as possible to be understood.
Be confident in all you do.
Your body, your mind, everything about you has been wonderfully made, donât forget that. when you walk, keep your head high. Maintain eye contact with people. No one is above you, and you should never let anyone try to intimidate you. Smile baby, youâre blessed!
On the topic of walking, make sure your posture is good!
Stand up straight, slouching and bad posture isnât a mark of a feminine woman. Walk with one foot in front of the other with your shoulders pushed back. walk slowly, you are in no rush. Let people look at you, Iâll say it once and Iâll say it again: Youâre beautiful âĄ
Invest in your lingerie.
Iâd highly suggest getting rid of any old, tattered undergarments. As beautiful as you are, you should only have adornments that are half as beautiful and of good quality. Now remember, you donât have to break the bank for this. I prefer victoriaâs secret undergarments to pinks. there are also brands like aerie, wear lively, and ThirdLove that have wonderful underwear! below, I have linked some of my favorite pieces.
Aerie
real power balconette bra (I have one in every color)
eyelash lace racerback bralette
new bloom lace padded triangle bralette
lace strappy triangle bralette
Victoria's Secret
lacie bralette
cosabella sweetie bralette
esme triangle bralette
wicked unlined balconette bra (I have this bra in the black + nude, soft plum floral, sage dust, and lace black. It's one of my favorites if you couldn't tell.)
Have superb hygiene.
Feminine women are known to be soft, supple, fragrant creators. Make sure you bathe daily. For your body, use a fragrant body wash. For your under area, use a white soap with no fragrances and no dye. Make sure you wear a deodorant as well as a beautiful perfume. If you arenât able to use perfume, scented oils are always an excellent choice. Always make sure your breath is brushed and clean and smelling fresh. Make sure to always wear clean, freshly pressed clothes. It goes without saying, but top-tier hygiene is everything. I've included a list of some of my favorite perfumes for the spring and summer seasons.
Bright Crystal by Versace
Dylan Turquoise Pour Femme by Versace
Light Blue by Dolce & Gabbana
Lazy Sunday by Maison Margiela
Under The Lemon Tree by Maison Margiela
Si by Armani
La Vie Est Belle by Lancome
Be mindful of what you wear.
Wear clothing that flatters the body. They should accentuate your best features. Wear more skirts and dresses. It took me a while to get to the point of wearing dresses because I grew up a tomboy wearing oversized t-shirts, sweats, and sneakers every day. But now, once spring rolls around, my body is itching to pull out my light dresses. If I do wear pants, they're usually satin wide-legged trousers or linen shorts. I rarely wear denim shorts, but when the outfit calls for them, I wear them. I love sandals, wedges, and espadrilles as feminine footwear. I still wear sneakers from time to time. I have created so many mood boards that showcase my style if you're looking for inspiration.
Never stop educating yourself.
The mark of a truly feminine woman is an educated woman. Never stop learning, even once you get your diploma. Make time to read books, watch films, and learn about the world. A good conversationalist makes the most interesting of a woman. I love cinematography, so I watch a lot of classic films. I also am immersed in a creative space, so it's important to know things about art, history, and things like that. Find something you're interested in, and never ever stop learning.
Good luck again on your journey âĄ

Periorbital Vitiligo Caused by Wrinkle-Removing Eye Cream: A Case Report
Abstract
The prospect of slowing and/or reversing the aging process of oneâs skin by applying topical over-the-counter commercial products is becoming increasingly attractive. In particular, facial wrinkle removers are generating significant consumer attention, but the potential for these products to cause permanent skin damage has not been previously addressed. This report investigates the ingredients found in a single product and correlates their presence with an adverse clinical outcome.
Keywords: Periorbital Vitiligo Commerical Products Wrinkle Removers Detergents Adhesives Motor Oils Skin Pigmentation Eye Cream
Introduction
Chemical induced vitiligo usually occurs following skin exposure to phenol containing compounds that may be unknowingly present in worksite industrial materials, hair dyes, skin lightening creams, household cleaning products, deodorants, detergents, adhesives, rubber gloves and sandals, motor oils, and laboratory reagents [1,2]. It is clinically indistinguishable from spontaneous loss of skin pigmentation related to genetic risks and autoimmune phenomena. We report a case of periorbital vitiligo caused by a routine commercially available eye cream advertised to remove unwanted wrinkles. None of the risk factors mentioned above are relevant to this case.
Case Report
A 51-year-old Caucasian female applied Lancome Renergie Lift Multi-Action Eye Cream twice a day for one week in the following locations: below her eyebrows, underneath her lower eyelids, and the lateral corners of her eyes. There was no previous history utilizing similar products, and there was no history of burning, itching, nor skin rash in the application contact areas. On the eighth day she ceased usage after noticing progressive loss of pigmentation in the areas of application (Figures 1-3). Over the next three years her periorbital vitiligo remained unimproved despite a variety of therapeutic dermatologic interventions, including laser treatments. No other areas of skin depigmentation have developed. Her only other ongoing medical problem was a four-year history of mild, non-progressive, untreated multiple sclerosis characterized by intermittent fatigue, self-limited lower extremity myalgias, occasional lack of coordination, and occasional memory lapses
Discussion
There exists an exhaustive list of ingredients in the topical product used by this patient, namely: water, dimethicone, glycerin, isohexadecane, alcohol, squalene, cetyl alcohol, stearic acid, mineral oil, palmitic acid, PEG-100 stearate, glycerol stearate, PEG-20 stearate, beeswax, octyldodecanol, Ci77891, titanium dioxide, Ci16035 (red 40), Ci19140 (yellow 5), C13-14 isoparaffin, mica, saccharomyces (yeast), hydrolyzed linseed extract, sodium hydroxide, soy protein, hyalauronic acid, sodium benzoate, phenoxyethanol, adenosine, acetyl tetrapeptide, caffeine, silica, polyacrylamide, chlorphenasin, chlorhexidine digluconate, polyethylene dimethiconol, limonene, benzyl alcohol, linalool, capryloyl, salicylic acid, microcrystalline wax, paraffin, shea butter, laureth-7, coumarin, and parfum. Dimethicone and dimethiconol are polydimethylsiloxanes (silicones), which chemically are the same artificial organosiloxane materials present in silicone gel-filled breast implants. These two items, in concert with octyldodecanol (an emulsifier), readily penetrate the skin and adhere to the subcutaneous fat, as silicones are lipophilic. Fat cells (adipocytes and lipocytes) contain a number of mediators of inflammation, and fat cells are also capable of converting the amino acid tyrosine into catecholamines (epinephrine and norepinephrine). Tyrosine is an essential ingredient used by melanocytes to produce normal skin pigmentation (melanogenesis). Vitiligo and tachyarrythmias are two items in a long list of proven toxic clinical phenomena manifested by recipients of silicone gel-filled breast implants [3-5].
It is therefore hypothesized that one of the mechanisms of vitiligo production in this patient is the localized preferential shunting of tyrosine usage to activated adipocytes, thereby depriving melanocytes of their substrate. A second mechanism is silicone-induced stimulation of adipocytes to produce localized inflammation, as panniculitis (subcutaneous fat necrosis) is another well-known ailment occurring in implant recipients [3-5]. Localized inflammation has been shown to be lethal to melanocytes [1,2]. Five other ingredients in this topical product are also of critical importance in the development of vitiligo in this patient. Two of these include salicylic acid and sodium benzoate. Salicylic acid by itself acts as an exfoliant to reduce dry patches, and sodium benzoate by itself is designed to kill bacteria on the skin. The other three key ingredients are sodium hydroxide, calcium hydroxide (present in mica), and water. When all five are mixed togethera chemical reaction ensues between salicylic acid and sodium benzoate, whereby phenols are produced. Phenols are directly toxic to melanocytes because they act as tyrosine analogues, thereby inhibiting the process of melanogenesis [1,2].
All of the other ingredients in this product have varied actions. For example, isohexadecane in an emollient and a solvent designed to soften and smooth the skin in concert with enabling other substances to easily dissolve into a homogeneous entity. Ci16035 (red 40) is known to cause allergic reactions, and Ci19140 (yellow 5) is known to cause purple spots on the skin. Squalene is utilized for adding moisture but is known to clog pores in the skin. Phenoxyethanol is a preservative known to cause skin irritation. Silica has a long and sordid history of toxicity to the body. Polyacrylamide absorbs water and is used as a thickener. Chlorphenesin is utilized as a preservative and is known to cause contact dermatitis. Chlorhexidine digluconate is an antiseptic utilized to kill bacteria. Limonene is an antioxidant and also is known to cause skin senisitivity. Laureth-7 is a surfactant that contains 1,4-dioxane (a solvent that is a known toxin). Essentially, Lancome Renergie Lift Multi-Action Eye Cream is a soup mixture of ingredients with the clear-cut potential to damage the skin via many adverse mechanisms. Over the past ten years the proliferation of over-the-counter anti-aging materials are legion, and the same is true for multiple other multi-purpose topical products such as moisturizers, softeners, rejuvenators, make-up, lotions, shampoos, and soaps. One can only speculate how many other consumers may have developed permanent vitiligo upon exposure to similar compounds encountered in this case, since many or all of these compounds are not necessarily restricted to just wrinkle removers.
With regard to cosmetics, using a make-up remover at the end of the day may paradoxically enhance an adverse skin reaction, because many removers contain an emulsifier known as TEA (triethanolamine). TEA temporarily changes the pH of the skin to alkaline, thereby transiently loosening the tight bonds between skin cells. Thus, a certain proportion of what is on the skin may actually wind up being impacted below it. The induction of wrinkle remover induced vitiligo may be more likely to occur if the user does not experience skin burning, itching, and or rashes on initial contact. Under these circumstances (as noted in this case) a consumer is more likely to continue further applications beyond the first day or two of usage. Once subclinical inflammation and melanocyte damage become obvious, it is probably too late to reverse the unsightly cosmetic outcome.
Conclusion
Consumers need to be aware of the complexity of topical skin products they are purchasing, as these products may contain potentially harmful ingredients capable of causing unwanted and permanently altered dermatologic appearances.

The Truth About Beauty Products
What are Beauty Products? Cosmetics are comprised of mixtures of various chemical substances derived either from natural resources, or synthesized ones. Cosmetics have different functions. These may be for individual use, for health and beauty, for deodorant or perfume, etc.
Urban Decay is a makeup company that produces the popular lipstick "NRG", and the eye shadow "adow con". They are one of the most well known brands in cosmetics. Other well known makeup companies include Maybelline, Lancome, Cover Girl, Makeup Art Cosmetics, toxin cosmetics, and many others.
What are Natural beauty products? Cosmetics are not food, because foods are meant to nourish the human body, and cosmetics are meant to beautify and " Enhance your beauty"--that's what the ads say. There are hundreds of products available in every retail department store. The cosmetic sections of department stores are absolutely full of products for your beauty needs.
What are the most commonly used beauty products? Makeup is one of the most common items in a woman's beauty regimen. Just about every woman uses some type of makeup, such as mascara, eye shadow, foundation, lip liner, lipstick, and nail polish. Some women even wear their hair in pigtails, false eyelashes, and other cosmetic "artistic" creations.
What are the most common cosmetics accidents? One of the most common ingredients in cosmetics products is Sodium Laureth Sulphate, also known as laureth sulfate. This ingredient is used as a foaming agent, to emulsify oils and emulsifying agents, and as an engine degreasing agent. It is listed on the "metics" ingredient list as a probable carcinogen. Other commonly found ingredients in cosmetics products include fragrance, color, preservatives, and oral contraceptives.
What are some signs of skin cancer? Cancerous cells called tumors can develop in areas that receive an excessive amount of UV radiation from the sun, such as the face and neck. Skin cancer can also develop from contact with many chemicals that make up beauty products, including nail polish, body powder, eye shadow, and lip liner. Melanoma is the most deadly form of skin cancer, but many types of cancers of the lymphatic system and the reproductive system can also develop in people who are repeatedly exposed to the sun's ultraviolet rays.
What are some signs of aging? Aging occurs as a result of the breakdown of collagen and protein in the skin, as well as decreased production of new skin cells and toxins that build up in the organs and tissue. As people get older, they tend to stop trying to protect their skin from the sun and begin to show more wrinkles, discoloration, and age spots. This can be attributed to the fact that the typical cosmetic formula of today contains artificial preservatives and fragrances. To slow down the process of aging, people need to find a healthy regimen that will include healthy, all natural makeup.
What are some signs of organ toxicity? Certain chemicals, such as parabens, which are used as preservatives and fragrance additives in cosmetics products, can disrupt the endocrine system of the body, which is responsible for maintaining normal hormonal balance in the body. When this imbalance is present, the user may experience a wide range of symptoms, including headaches, dizziness, depression, excessive sweating, nausea, and more. To avoid these unpleasant side effects, it is best to stick only with products that contain all natural, plant based ingredients.
What are some signs of organ toxicity? If you want to stay away from these problems, it is best to only buy organic cosmetics. Organic products are not only safer for your health, they are also more effective at keeping your skin younger looking and softer for longer. Many beauty product companies have already begun using only organic formulas in order to meet strict regulations set forth by the Environmental Protection Agency.
What are some signs of urban decay? Urban Decay's line of products, which include lipsticks, eye shadows, mousse, and blush, is known for its attention grabbing ads and its controversial ingredients. Many of the products in this line are high in oils, waxes, and artificial preservatives that could potentially strip the natural oils found in your skin and cause skin damage over time. For this reason, many women have turned to using natural beauty products, such as olive oil based moisturizing facial cream, for everyday use.
What are high-quality products for makeup that won't drain my wallet? While mascara does add a beautiful touch to your eyes, it can also clog your pores. Using water-based makeup removers, such as Revlon's Refinee, can help remove mascara and other cosmetics without irritating your skin. Other high-quality products for the eyes include Clarins' Anti-Aging Conceal and Dior's Artistique mascara in matte and shimmer versions. Water-based formulas are often the best option when it comes to finding an affordable, lightweight makeup that won't irritate or dry out your skin.

Youâll Manage: THE BREAK UP WITH MAKE UP
Letâs discuss breaking up with unnecessary beauty products and the companies that put their corporate profits before their customersâ health. Women are the target market, the dominant demographic, and the driving force behind the 50 billion dollar a year beauty products industry. The products are marketed to them as âpersonal careâ, implying that these products are a necessity. Most are not.
While weâve touched on the health hazards of many beauty products, we should also address the financial impact. One of the biggest drains on a womanâs budget is the constant purchase of beauty products. This expenditure makes money management difficult. Women have billions of advertising and marketing dollars directed at them persuading them to spend money on beauty products and services that they do not need.
Seeing certain products or services as ânot necessaryâ can be challenging. Women have been brainwashed to believe that they actually do âneedâ these things and âmustâ have them. (Women are not alone in being brainwashed by advertising: I see plenty of metropolitan men driving big, burly pick-up trucks theyâve seen advertised on television. The closest some of them get to going âoff roadâ is when they pull up to valet parking.)
Itâs not just advertising and marketing that reinforce this âneedâ belief associated with beauty products. Itâs the formative experiences of childhood and adolescence: watching your mother, grandmother, sisters, aunts, and friends apply makeup and share advice about it. Itâs almost a ârite of passageâ which many women include in their memories of what they think of as âgrowing upâ and âlifeâ.
What you need to remember as well is that your mother and grandmother were probably very selective about purchasing makeup and parting with their hard-earned and well-managed money. Cosmetics for previous generations were a luxury. Women rarely owned more than two of any particular item: a compact, a tube of lipstick, hand or face cream, and some lotion. That was about it, and they used all of it before they purchased more.
Today, many women canât imagine living without an abundance of these products. Theyâre just a part of daily existenceâroutine and essential.
I have some shocking news for you: food and shelter are essential. Everything else is optional. This seemingly hardcore concept is foreign to many people, but when you endure an extended period of limited resources, you will learn the truth in it. Your life can go on just fine without television, designer labels, âaccessoriesâ, four-dollar coffees, overpriced manicures, and many beauty products. Again, youâre going to have to do your own personal calculations as to how overspending on beauty products impacts your personal bottom line and your progress toward financial independence.
You also must weigh its health impact, as weâve discussed. Foundations and powders applied all over your face just clog your pores and set you up to purchase even more products to get your skin clean and healthy again. Be aware that your skin is your bodyâs largest organ. It absorbs up to 60% of whatever you put on it. When chemicals are absorbed through the pores of your face, those chemicals enter your bloodstream. Think about that.
Note: if you need some color in your cheeks, skip the rouge and exercise on a regular basis. Get the blood flowing. If you want to avoid wrinkles, avoid cigarettes, excessive alcohol consumption, and overexposure to the sun.
Anti-aging creams, face powders and foundations, eye-shadow, lipstick, blushes, mascara, nail polish, nail polish remover, face primer, hair, hair, and more hair productsâthe list is long and the costs add up, especially for women trying to get ahead. Trim your shopping list.
I support you doing things that make you feel beautiful, that make you feel more confident, that make you feel more empowered. However, I would encourage you to seek those positive feelings through education, exercise, and effort first. Then turn to cosmetics to only enhance the inner beauty and wisdom that are yours. Know your value, then spend your hard-earned money wisely. Remember the words of Bob Marley, who said, âA smile is the most beautiful curve on a womanâs body.â Iâd add that itâs also the most beautiful thing she can put on her face.
The good news about this break up is that there really are âa lot of other fish in the seaâ, i.e., other companies that you can look at and perhaps start a relationship with. These are cosmetics companies often owned and operated by women (a total of 43 as of this writing). They are also companies that have done serious work to offer their customers products at a greater value with higher health and safety standards. Some of these companies include:
Deborah LippmanâFounded by celebrity manicurist Deborah Lippman, the beauty company that bears her name is one of the most renowned in the world.
Charlotte TilburyâFrom age 13, Charlotte Tilbury knew she wanted to work in the beauty industry. After training at the Glauca Rossi School of Makeup in London, Tilbury jumped into the world of makeup. Now, her brand is a household name.
Honest BeautyâActress Jessica Alba founded Honest Beauty when she saw a need for responsible, quality products with maximum ingredient transparency.
Edible BeautyâThe naturopath and nutritionist Anna Mitsios launched Edible Beauty with the sole intention of creating a luxury botanic brand that is equally safe and effective. Annaâs strong belief in the natural power of herbs is evident in her formulas.
Itâs A 10 HaircareâFounder Carolyn Aronson made history as the CEO of the first indie hair care brand to land a national Super Bowl ad. She also founded Kyanaâs Dream Foundation (in her daughterâs honor) which focuses on providing emergency response for children in schools.
AveSeenaâAfter spending 20 years researching the effects of estrogenic and endocrine disrupting chemicals on the immune system, Dr. Ebru Karpuzoglu decided to pour her scientific discoveries into a 100% naturederived skin care brand.
MaBrook & CoâIn 2014, Aliya Dhalla launched her brand of 100% natural and aluminum-free deodorant. The Clean Deodorant fully harnesses the benefits of activated charcoal, baking soda, and sweet floral scents. Â
FactâFounder Cassy Burnside has launched her brand of Paleo-friendly and cruelty-free skin care products that are packaged and formulated for women on the go.
Aphorism SkincareâAfter battling a rare but curable cancer, Urvashi Singh set out on a journey to research the links between the toxic chemicals in cosmetics and disease triggers. This led her to launch a luxurious line of non-toxic skin care products.
Also consider Joshua Onyskoâs Pangea Organics, Dr. David Bronnerâs Magic Soaps, Greg Starkmanâs Innersense, and Olown Nâdjotehalaâs Alaffie. These are just a few companies to consider. Do your own research and find those that are best for you.
Itâs important to look at the beauty industry in political terms as well. While women purchase the vast majority of beauty products sold around the world and are often featured in the advertising and promotional campaigns for these products, they are vastly underrepresented in the executive ranks of these companies. As of this writing, women comprise less than 25% of the Boards of Directors of major beauty companies, and only 24% of their executive teams. Only 23 of the 500 largest cosmetics companies in the world have a woman as their CEO. The 6 most dominant corporations in the beauty industry all have men as CEO. These include LâOreal, Estee Lauder, MAC, and Revlon.
A question you might ask yourself is this: with so many qualified female executives out there, why wouldnât the Board of Directors and the shareholders put a woman in charge of a company that sells most of its products to women?
Itâs important to remember that with beauty productsâand all your purchasing choicesâyour dollars are your vote. Your dollars are your voice. In order to make informed choices, itâs important to know which corporation owns your favorite brand or brands of makeup. There are reasons for this: one is to determine if a company is prioritizing the health of its customers. Another is to determine if a particular company is being a good corporate citizen.
Are they building strong communities by paying their employees fairly? Is their philosophy inclusive and their workforce diverse, both on the assembly line and in the executive ranks? Do they invest in a sustainable future? Are they attentive to their environmental footprint with regards to manufacturing, packaging, and distribution? Do they have âgreenâ goals? Do they participate consistently in charitable giving? (Not just feel-good publicity campaigns around charity events.) Â
Itâs also important to know if a company is selling two almost identical products, but marketing and pricing one âbrandâ differentlyâand pricing it more expensivelyâ than the other (the âdrugstore brandâ and the âluxury storeâ brand.) Some large corporations do thisâproduce essentially the same product and market it as two different productsâto reach more customers in different demographics, saving the company money on production costs. Many times, only scents, textures, or packaging differentiate the products. This is the reason, for example, that Lancome Eau Micellaire Douceur and LâOrĂ©al Paris Skin Perfection 3 in 1 Purifying Micellar Solution are almost identical products. The same corporate owner manufactures them with the same active ingredients. Only different âbrand namesâ and packaging separate the two in the eyes of the consumer.
It is true that some high-end products are made using more expensive ingredients and innovative technologies. However, the truth is they usually cost more because people expect expensive products to work much better than inexpensive ones and are, therefore, willing to pay more for them.
So, before you spend lots of money on a luxury product, do a little research on the company and its line. Compare the luxury product lineâs ingredients to those of their less expensive sister brands. Make an objective, informed determination if the difference in the ingredients is really worth the difference in price. To make your initial research easier, weâve provided a starter list of âwho owns whatâ in the cosmetics industry in an appendix in the back of this book. It is not comprehensive, and the information may change as companies buy and sell brands, but it will give you a birdâs eye view of the landscape.
Having this information will preserve your health, encourage good corporate governance, and save you money. Hopefully, this will also help you see beauty products for what they are: a big, profitable industry.

Interview 1
Tell me a bit about yourself.Â
I am 18 - 24, a female. I go to uni at AUT studying design (advertising and branding).
What do you do on a normal day?
I attend Uni. If Iâm not there, I am working as a part-time graphic designer. I contract myself out. If I am not doing that I am chilling with friends.Â
What do you do for work?
My main job is creating visual renders of installations and exhibitions for clients nationally and internationally.Â
Are you always inside?
Yes. Unless I am visiting a location.Â
Do you wear makeup?Â
I sure do.
If so how often?
Probably 70% of the time. Defs days I donât wear makeup. Not because I donât want to but because I am too lazy. I used to wear makeup all the time. When I was a single gal.Â
What brand?
I am quite weird. I either have supermarket Maybelline, Rimmel, Or I get given the high-end stuff eg, YSL, Lancome by Keegans (bf) brother for free. I like both just as much.Â
How do you feel without it?
The best thing is that I can rub my eyes. Whenever I am tired I rub my face. Itâs a lot more freeing. I am comfortable without makeup. However, I do tint my eyebrows and eyelashes every week. I do it myself. Its a product from a pharmacy that you paint on. Like hair dye.Â
Tell me about the process you go through when buying makeup?
I look for the best deal. If I need something I buy it, but ill look for the most affordable product. But not the cheapest-cheapest. Somewhere in between. I usually go for the products that I have used before.Â
Why is it that you go for products that you have used before?Â
If I have tried a product and I like it ill stick to it.Â
What information do you need when buying makeup?
Price, colour match (foundation), however its usually a wild guess. Thatâs why I stick to buying the same. I try to buy products without parabens. Especially skincare and foundations. Stuff going over the whole face however not really products like mascara.Â
Tell me about that and why?
Parabens are linked to cancers/breast cancer. I have known that from a young age. Also with deodorant. Mum enforced this in me from a child. I try but itâs hard to not use fragrance. I always use natural skincare. When it comes to makeup Iâm not as good because I think its a lot harder to find affordable [makeup] products without all the shit in them. I am much more conscious of skincare that I am with makeup. A lot of makeup isnât advertised as chemical-free etc at an affordable price. I really wish makeup was a lot more clear in that sense. Skincare does a way better job. With makeup, itâs almost a secret with whatâs in them etc.Â
What extra information (if any) would you like to have when buying makeup?
Being more clear about what is exactly what is in. No-plastic packaging would be good to know if a product has or not, also if it is recyclable packaging. It doesnât need all the plastic that comes with it usually. And mostly the chemical thing - it would be good to know more about what is in the product.Â
If the chemicals were named in front of you would understand what they were/meant?
Probably not which is really annoying. I know paraben. They try to hide it often by calling it different things.Â
What/who do you think influences your choices when buying makeup?
People I know and also who have more knowledge in the beauty industry. I trust Ethen (bfâs brother) who works for YSL. I will ask the people in the store if I am spending more than I usually do. They have way more knowledge than I do. The packaging isnât a big thing for me. Itâs more about how good the product actually is.Â
What do you think about the advertising you see for makeup?
I think itâs hard for me to get sucked into trends and advertising since I study advertising at uni. I can see right through it. I put the chemicals and how good it is for me first and foremost. It does really annoy me when shopping online and there are like flashy buy this etc popping up everywhere. Thatâs why I often buy in-store.
Is there something that you think is missing in the makeup industry?Â
It would be really cool for there if you could get your colours matched to certain products in a cheaper and easier way. Easier access to makeup classes potentially. I know there are Youtube tutorials but theyâre heavily influenced by advertising. I prefer going to a place where there is a variety and you can compare, such as Mecca.Â
Do you read reviews of products before purchasing a beauty product?Â
No.
What type of beauty brands resonate with you and why?
At the moment. Mecca the brand because I use their tinted moisturiser most days. Mecca brand is mid-range price-wise and there is a lot of variety in the stores with different products.

A guide to animal testing đ°đžâš
Hello! Iâm hoping that this will help answer various questions people have about going cruelty free. All of this is based off of my own research, knowledge, and biases, feel free to message me if I got anything wrong. Warning: this post contains some potentially disturbing images.
This is a part one, explaining what it is to people who donât know or understand it. My part two will come out soon telling what brands are and arenât cruelty free as well, what I would recommend.
What is animal testing?
Animal testing is when live animals undergo experiments to test whether the product is suitable for humans. Whenever I tell people about this they think it sounds ridiculous and say things like âyou canât contour a bunnyâ and âitâd be ridiculous to put mascara on a cat.â Thatâs not what animal testing is. Animal testing is when they test the chemicals on the animal to make sure theyâre safe.
Why is this a bad thing?
Because the chemicals usually arenât safe.
When an animal goes through animal testing they are injected with chemicals, force fed harmful substances, exposed to radiation, exposed to toxic gases, and usually left dead by the end of the tests. They are often dissected too. They spend their entire life in a cage. Â Commonly used animals are bunnies, monkeys, and mice but there are many more.
Why would someone test on animals?
As far as I can tell, the main reason that companies test on animals is for profit and branding.
PETA (not always a credible company, but they have some good information on animal testing) says that one reason is to back companies up. An example would be someone complains âthis product injured meâ and they can use âweâve tested this to make sure itâs safeâ as an excuse. They donât share the test results, they just say that it was tested.
But the main reason is for profit. Obviously, there would be a huge profit to be made in Mainland China (which excludes Hong Kong). But in Mainland China, it is a requirement by law to test your products on animals. So many brands choose to get that profit.
Something tedious with brands that claim to be cruelty free is that in their cruelty free policy they have the words âwe only test on animals if required by law.â This is difficult because then it can be hard to figure out if they sell in China.
EOS is a brand that is like that. They are one of the many that paint on the lie of âweâre cruelty freeâ by putting it everywhere. But a popular cruelty free blog (logicalharmony) emailed EOS a lot and eventually they came out and said that they were selling in China.
The last reason is much more understandable, that the test results werenât meeting up to governmental standards and couldnât be sold without having more solid proof that itâs safe.
What products are tested?
Without knowledge, a lot of your daily products were tested on animals. Makeup, skincare, cleaning products, shampoo, baby care, deodorant, candles, perfumes, toothpaste, menstrual products, pet food, vaseline, tissues, and more. This doesnât mean that all of these things are tested on animals, but examples of what can be.
Thatâs an overwhelming list. People will have different opinions on this, but there are certain products that are harder to find cruelty free alternatives than others. Especially if you have certain skin type or condition, you live in a place where there arenât many options, or you donât have much money. I personally use some products that are tested on animals (toothpaste, cleaners, soap, deodorant) because itâs extremely hard to find cruelty free versions of those. Also, since Iâm young, I donât buy most of those. But I firmly believe that there isnât any reason that someone would buy makeup that isnât cruelty free other than they werenât aware. Itâs easy to find cruelty free makeup and often the makeup is better quality or cheaper!
Parent companies
A parent company is a large company that owns smaller companies. A very common one is LâOreal. They are a massive company that own Urban Decay, Lancome, Essie, NYX, Maybelline and more. How this relates to animal testing is that LâOreal is a not a cruelty free company. But NYX and Urban Decay alone are cruelty free. So when you buy a product from one of those brands, a little bit of that will go to LâOreal which is why a lot of people choose not to support brands with parent companies that test.
But a lot of people do support those brands, I am one of them. They see their dollar as a vote. So when LâOreal is looking back at all of their sales for their brands, they may see that NYX and Urban Decay suddenly made way more than Essie and Maybelline (iâd hope). And when they ask themselves why they can see that these brands are cruelty free and may consider going cruelty free themselves.
What alternatives are there to test the chemicals?
According to PETA, there are a few alternative ways to test the cosmetics. Many of them are with technology. Realistic body dummies that mimic the way a human works, chips that work similar to bodies, computers that simulate human biology, and more. Another way is with human volunteers. Lush does this, where people volunteer to test the products. This is safe because itâs trusted and known that the ingredients Lush uses are natural.
How to switch over
Switching over to cruelty free cosmetics can be difficult and requires a bit of research. Start by looking at blogs and lists that say what brands are and arenât cruelty free (i recommend x and x). Then recognize symbols like the PETA bunny and the Leaping Bunny. A useful thing is PETAâs search bar where you simply search up a company name and it will tell you if itâs cruelty free or not. I used this a lot but when I learned that they arenât 100% accurate I started looking at blogs who do their own research on brands.
The PETA bunny is probably more recognizable, as well many more companies are in PETAâs system of brands. But they do have some brands that unknowingly sell in China, as well donât say whether or not they have parent companies that test. PETAâs forms are said to be not very strict. Leaping Bunny however, have a much more detailed application form to be certified with the Leaping Bunny.
Leaping bunny â PETA â CCF Rabbit
Itâs important to know the big names. The ones that appear in every store. Iâm talking about both cruelty free and not. Or at least have an internet connection so when youâre out shopping you can quickly look it up :)
I hope this post helped or convinced someone. Once again it was made with my own knowledge, research, opinions, and of course bias. My goal was to change peopleâs minds on what cosmetics their buying. Or at least make people more aware. I hope this was helpful :)

My Beach Bag Essentials
Having the right beach bag essentials is a must. These are a few of my must-haves that ensure I have a pleasant, fun and safe day in the sun!
1. SPF- Sunscreen is a must when you get out in the sun. The number is up to you, but I would definitely opt for something strong. It all depends on the exposure you have that day. I am fortunate enough to be able to wear SPF 15 and not burn but if I know that I am going to be out for a long period of time, I always try and keep the SPF number at 30+.
A tan may look great, but the burn and things that come with that such as skin cancer and wrinkles is not. We have all made the mistake of lathering on the tanning oil in hopes of getting a great tan but by the end of the day and after showering, the pain sets in. Not worth it.
I love Sun Bum- it smells great and provides a great coverage. If you think Banana Boat smells good, wait until you smell this. I have even put it on as a lotion just because I am obsessed with the smell :).
Australian Gold SPF 8 Spray Gel Sunscreen with instant bronzer is my go-to when I am laying out for a short period of time and want to get a little more color. The thing I love about this besides the smell, is the bronze color it adds to your skin. It gives you some color and makes you look like you already have a slight tan! Also, this is the perfect thing to put on if you want to get a great photo to capture your day in the sun on IG...haha..yes, we all think about those things even if we do not want to admit it...
2. Laura Mercier Illuminating Tinted Moisturizer and/or Lancome Teint Idole Ultra Wear foundation
Most of the time I opt for the tinted moisturizer before my day in the sun because it provides a great, lightweight coverage and is SPF 20. This way I am not having to go without make-up and my face is protected from the sun.
I choose to go with the foundation on days where I have some intense blemishes and do not want to scare the world...hahah. This foundation is SPF 15 and it also last all day and is waterproof! I absolutely love this product!
3. Chapstick
I like this one because it is a three-in-one (one end is for day, the other for night and it has SPF to protect the lips in the sun)
4. H2O
Hydrate, Hydrate, Hydrate. Water is essential to your day in the sun. I love flavored, sparkling water, so La Croix is my go-to when it comes to having water. It has such a refreshing taste and it is something extra than plain water.
5. Deodorant
I like to stay refreshed and make sure I smell good when I get out in the sun and in case I have somewhere I need to be after I leave the beach or pool.
6. Make-Up removing wipes
It is always a good thing to remove your make-up at the end of the day. I like to keep these in case I need to clean my face off and reapply foundation or sunscreen.
7. Sunglasses
Sunglasses are not only for looks but they protect your eyes from the sun. I absolutely love my Polarized Ray-Ban Aviators. They block the sun and are also a great fashion accessory.
8. Music
I love music and a day in the sun just isnât the same without some good music. I love my blue tooth speaker and always ensure it is charged and ready to go!
9. Ponytail holders/ bobby pins
I always like to have these in my bag for when I want to pull my hair back, especially the days when it is extremely hot and your hair gets all nasty and sticks to your neck.
These are a few of my favorite beach bag essentials! I hope you find this helpful when packing your beach bag for your next day in the sun!!
