Why Dental Insurance in Australia Is More Important Than Ever
When it comes to taking care of our health, dental care is often overlooked. However, oral health is just as important as physical health, and dental insurance can provide the coverage you need to maintain a healthy smile. In Australia, dental costs can be high, and that's where dental insurance becomes essential.
Why You Need Dental Insurance in Australia
Whether you're looking for dental cover for regular check-ups or more comprehensive care, dental health insurance can help you save money on essential dental treatments. It's not just about getting routine cleanings; dental insurance ensures that you have access to a wide range of dental services when you need them most. From fillings to crowns and orthodontics, dental coverage ensures you're covered for both the expected and unexpected.
Finding the Best Dental Insurance in Australia
There are many options for dental insurance in Australia, but it’s important to find the best dental insurance Australia has to offer. Look for a policy that balances affordable premiums with comprehensive coverage. Ensure that your plan includes both preventive care and major dental treatments.
The key is to understand your dental needs and choose a plan that fits your lifestyle. With the right health insurance dental plan, you won’t have to worry about paying out-of-pocket for those unexpected visits to the dentist.
Save Money and Stay Healthy
Without dental coverage, unexpected dental treatments can become expensive, especially for families or individuals with ongoing dental issues. By investing in dental health insurance, you are not only protecting your budget but also ensuring that you can continue to receive high-quality care when you need it most. Regular visits to the dentist are crucial for maintaining long-term oral health, and having the right dental insurance can make all the difference.
Conclusion: Don’t Wait – Get Covered Today
If you’ve been considering dental insurance, now is the time to act. Protect your oral health and your finances by securing the right dental cover. Compare plans, consider your needs, and choose the best dental insurance available to you in Australia. Your smile will thank you!

The California insurance thing is adding on to my established belief that insurance is inherently a bad mitigation for any risk that affects large swaths of the population who will very likely need it at some point.
The point of insurance is for the collective to pay an affordable regular fee, and the few who are affected by a given risk are compensated. Ideally, the EV of insurance would be 0, but in practice the EV is negative, but since we are broadly risk averse* we want it anyway.
But that only works if the fee is affordable and the risk is low. Fire insurance in California was a bad idea because everyone was at a major risk, the full cost of premiums would have been immense. California made it worse by making it illegal to charge for the real cost, but even if they hadn't, the premiums would have simply ballooned and many people would have been priced out of insuring their homes, and would still be in this situation.
Similar thing happens with healthcare. Everyone wants their insurance to cover everything, including very common, every day medications for long term medical problems. Needing my ADHD medication isn't a risk, it's not at the tail end of the probability distribution. My insurance shouldn't cover it, because covering it means that the company has to raise everyone's premiums, and raising the premiums prices people (myself included) out of being able to afford insurance for actual tail risks that could ruin their lives.
"But I need my ADHD medication to live a good life, it would ruin me to not get it" yeah, I hear you, same here, but insurance is just a bad system for dealing with that. It just isn't a risk, it doesn't fit well with the "small affordable fee to avoid unlikely disaster" model. If insurance pays for everyone's lifetime medications, then it has to raise premiums by the average of the cost of everyone's lifetime medications, and everyone breaks even, except now insurance is just more expensive and some people are priced out.
I think anytime insurance starts to sail out of the price range of the target demographic, it's a sign that something is deeply wrong and some intervention, likely government intervention, is needed. If people can't afford the fire insurance, it's because the fire risk is way too high and your forest management strategy should be overhauled. If people are struggling to pay their health care insurance, their insurance probably covers way too much because too much of every day health care is also out of reach of people.
Insurance companies aren't the good guys, you have an adversarial relationship with them. They will try to screw you over and lie to you and scam you and all the rest. But you can't get blood from stone, and you can't get a policy of "pay me money if my home built on top of kindling burns down" without paying for it somewhere, and instead of getting mad at the insurance company you should probably start asking why your home is built on kindling.
*Or, well, more complicatedly the full cost of some disasters is much worse than than strict accounting cost. Losing your home is far more destructive than losing the market price of the home's value, because it means spending weeks to months homeless and opening you up to other risks.

ONE INSTANT COMMISSION SPOT OPEN
SOLD
But I might open more of these in the future if I get more crispy dental bills
I'm opening one slot for a smaller commission to do immediately between my other work. Where I live the public healthcare is jammed and since it took a week for me to get into any kind of contact with them and I would've had to wait til next year for a dentist appointment, I went to a private dentist. It was very fast but also pricey.
I'm hoping to fix the dent in my wallet a little, so, now is your chance to get past the queue if you have a smaller commission in mind!
AVAILABLE:
Simple composition (similar to my swordtember style) 80€
Tumblr media Tumblr media
Waist up line art portrait without background 80€
Tumblr media Tumblr media
Two sketches 80€ (40€ per sketch)
Tumblr media Tumblr media
(latter can be split into two slots if there's interest)
If interested, send me an email at artharakka(at)gmail.com 🧡

I don't really know how to express it in a way that doesn't make me cringe and delete but I Am Not Okay right now
Trying to tell myself it could be much worse but damn does that not make me feel better. I don't want to whine because it could be much worse and I should be grateful it's not but going through it while having my first PMDD episode in months is not helping me think properly!

Luca is in for a dental today. He needs to get at least one tooth pulled and the rest cleaned.
He is very overweight, I need to get him on a diet. It's so hard when my other two dogs are such fussy eaters and he is there ready to pick up anything they discard faster than I am. 😫

i don't think (?) i mentioned this before but one of my goals this year was to go to the dentist for the first time in. uh. [redacted] number of years (i will say that [redacted] is well into legal adulthood) & i actually DID IT a few months ago & was blessed by the discovery that i have almost supernaturally good teeth given their relative lack of care - i mean i do take good care of my teeth! but i didn't always in my 20s & obviously. lack of dental coverage. very grateful for my dental genes, at least i have one health thing going for me
anyway the only thing i ended up needing was 2 cavities filled so i'm getting that done...today...imminently...& this is baby's first fillings. i never had a cavity as a kid! :') i have had dental surgery (wisdom teeth & 4 adult molars removed) which i know is objectively worse but that was a long time ago! i just don't know what to expect & i'm nervous. pray 4 me

Pet insurance exists and is very helpful. Vets are some of the lowest paid doctors in the U.S. and clinics are struggling to afford equipment and pay a livable wage to the few employees they have. They're not trying to extort you; imagine if you went to the dentist without insurance and got a full cleaning plus teeth removal plus meds for less than $1000? It'd be a miracle. Vets don't want to charge so much, they and the rest of us in the industry are drowning :(
i wasn't talking about individuals. I was talking about companies, the whole building, the entire practice and industry. not the individual vets that work inside, i have no doubt that the individual veterinarians DO care an incredible amount and I'm sure that they do wish that they could be paid fair wages and do their job for free at the same time, because they went into it for the love of animals not the money. just because individual veterinarians aren't intentionally extorting sad or desperate people doesn't mean that the industry/business they work for isn't

When my sister got wisdom tooth surgery she acted loopy and weird.
When I got my wisdom tooth surgery, I DIDN'T HAVE A SINGLE SHENANIGAN. I DON'T EVEN HAVE A DRUNK DOODLE TO SHOW FOR IT. (For science, I want to see how I draw on drugs. It's honestly pretty boring compared to what I do on a daily basis. The real drugs is the friends we made along the way!).
Also I hate all the websites that are like YOU'RE DOOOOMMMMMMEED IF YOU DON'T REMOVE YOUR WISDOM TEETH BEFORE YOU'RE 25. THE SURGERY WILL BE TOO COMPLICATED AND YOU MIGHT LOSE YOUR FACE. (??????)
Conclusions From Real Life For Sanity of the Anxiously Inclined:
I think that "do it before you're 25" thing is a dentist scam to try to rush the portion of the population that don't have really fucked up wisdom teeth to get surgery done. Because sometimes it really does just grow in fine. Based on my family, it's a 50/50 gamble lol
Later removal is not some crazy jump in complexity. I have been told this by multiple dentists now. Most of the complexity is just sedating you correctly. If you're a stingy bastard who fears neither pain nor dental tools, local numbing is an option for cheaper.
If you tried your luck and lost and do have a fucked up wisdom tooth (or all of them), you should probably deal with it before you get a deep fucked up cavity that is a ticking time bomb for complications like fucking up your jaw bone or a severe infection.
Take care of your Stupid Luxury Bones.
