athena lands the plane successfully but gets ambushed by the crooked fbi agents and takes a bullet for dennis, not for dennis but for justice for all the people in that ‘library’ and she’s hospitalized for a while obviously but eventually bobby checks her out and tells her he’s taking her home and she’s thinking it’s going to be that bland rental but instead it’s her dream home and she tells him as much and he tells her anywhere with her is his dream home and she’s such an incredible woman and he falls in love her bravery and selflessness again and again every day

Knowing that Dennis Jenkins will play a role in Athena's storyline during the first three episodes of S8, I wonder if she will ultimately have the same journey as Amir last season. While not necessarily forgiving Bobby, Amir came to see that he was more than his mistake. Will Athena come to that same conclusion about Dennis, even if she never forgives him for killing Emmett?

Random Sunday morning speculation about Bathena's 8A arc:

I don't think poor Dennis is gonna make it. They had him say he still owes a debt to Athena and Emmett's mom. They had him doubt that he should take the early release deal for the same reason. He is the only one who knows where the library is and that it definitely exists. They reminded us that he hasn't told Athena this information yet because he didn't want to make her a target. That feels like a classic setup for him to tell Athena parts of the necessary information to find the evidence to arrest everyone involved in the sex trafficking ring. With his dying breath. Or maybe he leaves her a note or something. Either way, I don't see Dennis surviving. :(

Athena told Dennis she only trusts Bobby with that information which could be foreshadowing to them investigating the location of the library in 8A using their actual house hunting for cover at least once. (We need to see them bicker a little about what each wants for their new home!) Bobby already told us the time frame for the house hunting is until the end of the year (because of the insurance) which lines up with the end of 8A.

To give the opening three-parter an intermediate conclusion for Dennis' arc there needs to be an arrest made in 8x03 which I would guess is one of the US Attorneys (the Arizona one who refused to shake Athena's hand?) with Athena proving he was involved in trying to kill Dennis and setting her up for the murder. Maybe Elaine mentions something for Athena to put the pieces together. (I would love to see a flashback to young Athena and young Elaine in 8x03 btw. Pretty please!)

The investigation while house hunting would then be the story line for Bathena during this half of the season which might tie into other ongoing plots. Maybe bringing down a powerful figure who protects Ortiz and/or Gerrard moves their story lines along. (I don't see Bobby not being back at the 118 very soon though.) Maybe Bobby will need to seek out Brad's help for access to Hollywood people during the investigation to the latter's absolute delight and the former's absolute horror. I feel like making Brad part of the sex trafficking ring would be pretty boring but he might make for a good red herring with all his ... particularities. (And then it turns out Marcus who hates Bobby is actually involved! 😂)
