“Maou 2099” The First Promo

The Aniplex Online Fest 2024 event unveiled new employees and a teaser video for the television anime series Maou 2099 (Demon Lord 2099). October 13 at 12:00 a.m. is when the anime is supposed to debut on Tokyo MX, Gunma TV, Tochigi TV, and BS11; MBS, Chukyo TV, and AT-X will air after that.

I just finished the first modern Anime series in years that I actually watched while it was being released. It was Demon Lord 2099 which really surprised me in terms of it's quality. Like it was stupidly good for a show best described as magi-punk semi redeemed villain power fantasy. And not because it was pretty or had a new take or was unique. It was just a really well written and presented show. Three separate times the multi episode subplot that I was wildly trying to understand turned out to be a murder mystery and three times I was fully caught by it. And not just because they didn't hint or properly foreshadow it, they just did it so well that I didn't click the pieces together until I had the final piece. And all three times it made the show retroactively more interesting. It was really well written. Even though it was almost a beat for beat power fantasy like Demon Lord! Retry everything played so well together. The A plot was hijinks and comedy usually with a couple really well made fight scenes (And one so bad that it looped back around to good) but it was always rooted in the world and the writers never talked down to you. There were setting specific jokes that were just left unexplained. Almost every scene in this show is used in someway to convey something about the world. I can't think of a single time in the entire show that an animated segment was narratively disconnected or were just filler. Even little tiny scenes about how side characters talk to each other mattered.

It seems like the three anime outside of Blue Lock I'm watching right now all have a character voice by Ian Sinclair (Mezo Shoji from My Hero Academia). I always recognize his unique sounding voice.

Maou 2099 ended in only 12 episodes. I prefer the 2nd arc because it made me wish for more. I don't like the 1st arc because I don't like the wannabe demon lord antagonist. I'm so glad he's dead now. I admit its not the perfect anime but sometimes flawed show with potential is enough to make me stay. It was refreshing because I rarely watch cyberpunk shows because Sci-fi stories is not my thing. For those interested in the continuation of their story, Yen Press is translating the light novels.

2nd arc focuses on Veltol friendship with Hizuki. This guy looks like he's collecting girls for his harem but his interaction with Hizuki seem its only platonic. Hizuki just genuinely want friends who will accept her. Most of Veltol friends are girls at this point and only Hero Gram is the guy. Like I can't believe they manage to turn the bathing scene less perverted just because Veltol thinks he has more beautiful body than her.

Hizuki's other self, the goddess has a crush on the hero. The same hero who defeated Veltol. Its cute how Gram and Veltol always reunite with each other by accident. Gram don't mind lending a hand if someone need to be rescued, as long as its not evil. Veltol didn't even told him "Oh btw this goddess who has a crush on you is wreaking havoc in a city?? Help me??" but instead "I can deal with it. I need to save my friend. Just cover me." He didn't snitch her crush.

I wish for more Veltol and Machina scenes. I think I never see them kiss? They confessed and hugged. That's it? They really seems older compare to their current friends. Of course, they are immortals and have this husband-wife dynamic. All in all, I like the characters but Veltol would be my favorite. He's funny. I need a friend like him.

Started watching Demon Lord 2099, does this count as an Isekai?

Lately I've been into theming my profiles. Before this, the profiles were purple or blue and Jakurai and/or Matenro (from Hypnosis Mic) themed like the first picture, but these other ones look pretty nice too...

...I'm disappointed whenever I used the white Maou 2099 key visual (below), you couldn't really make out it was Veltol when zoomed out (the reasons I like this visual are the particle effects and what's happening with the hair), which is why I ended up using the Veltol with the dramatic pose and screen behind him instead.

...Sure, it's difficult to figure out it's Veltol without zooming in because I wanted to include the entire pose, but zooming in makes people pay attention to the background too...
