Contemplating Death
Summary: Virgil starts wondering what will happen to his demonic soulmates when he dies.
/\/\
He'd avoided thinking about it. Maybe it had been because of the change in his relationships as well as necessity to reevaluate what's real, but Virgil was six months into being soulmates with Janus and Remus and had avoided thinking about his own mortality and the possible consequences of it until now.
Now when he was working and one of the tasks brought him face to face with a customer who'd lost their soulmate and will to live along with them.
“Logan, that class you learnt about demons in, did it include anything about demons with soulmates?” He asked, wincing at how emotionless his voice sounded. He definitely just made it clear he's close to freaking out.
Logan barely glanced at him before focusing on his screen. “Send me that so I can take it over for you. And no, so far as I'm aware your partners are the first known case of demons having soulmates.”
It had been enough in the moment, forcing Virgil to refocus on their work.
/\/\
“You're going to be okay when I die, right? You've got each other and are demons so you'll be okay right? Cause humans aren't always, when they lose their soulmates.” The words burst out of Virgil in a ramble. Janus had just been laughing over how breakable humans are, and how they'd need to keep Virgil safe from it all when his worries bubbled over.
Silence fell as Janus and Remus looked from him to each other, stunned and clearly trying to think of how to reply.
Just too long after Virgil spoke to be smooth, Janus eventually said, “We'll make you immortal long before that can happen, of course. We've just be waiting for you to be ready for us to suggest it.”
“Unlimited time to fuck everything up? Yeah, no thanks, answer my actual question!” Virgil snapped, getting a delighted laugh from Remus almost on reflex as he sobered up a moment later.
“But you could have magic, just a few rituals, no deals required and we get forever together! You could come with me on thefts and climbing places people think are impossible! Could do anything you imagined.” Remus jumped up, body switching shapes as he did. “No one would ever need to recognise you if you didn't want to be.”
Virgil watched them, beginning to scowl, “Do I have to agree to that or you'll destroy each other in grief, tear everything apart? Cause making me live forever is not an offer that makes me less worried.”
“You don't like the idea of rituals then?” Janus asked, ignoring again what Virgil was actually asking, “That's fine. There are potions you could take, or perhaps we could have you bitten by an immortal being.”
“Vampires are fun but we have to destroy them occasionally. Weres are exciting except they tend to get culled if humans pick up on their existence. I guess you'd say zombies still involve you dying.” Remus this time moved between the creatures they could get Virgil turned into and the green rotting skin he picked for the zombie had multiple blankets getting thrown over him.
“Just tell me what will happen to the two of you when I die!” Virgil snarled, forcing both demons to sit down on his bed and thankfully revealing a clear purple skinned Remus as he pulled the blankets off.
Janus shifted to match the colour, a need to emphasise their difference they didn't often feel the need for. “We don't know.” He admitted.
Virgil narrowed his eyes, “Don't know?”
“Demons all have soulmates but I'm the only one to actually try to find mine. I wanted all the dirty messy things humans do with their soulmates but with extra fun cause have you seen what I can do?” Remus bounced up, revealing his legs were no longer human but something that could be described as tentacles if the end was different. “Built in toys to help with the messy times.”
Janus cleared their throat then, getting Virgil to look over at them. “Which means of course that we have no clue how a demon losing their soulmate could be impacted. It's never happened before and as you've said in humans the reaction can be extreme but it can also not be.” They explained.
“great.” Virgil stated, folding him arms and pouting even as his soulmates wrapped themselves around him.

My thoughts/review on How to Fall in Love with a Demon by Lola Glass!
(Updated review: Changing my rating from 4 stars to 5 stars as of July 19th, 2024 because I can't stop thinking about this book and the characters.)
Star & Spice Rating: ⭐️ 5/5, 🌶️ 4/5
There are quite a few sex scenes in this, which is to be expected of course, since the demons literally feed on lust lol. 90% of the spicy scenes are open door, there are a few casual mentions of sex in between. There’s use of vibrators, mutual masturbation, dirty talk, & moments of having sex in a shifted demon form (featuring horns, wings, tails, and well…a few physical enlargements.)
TWs:  Kidnapping, blood, estranged family/family trouble
Judging a Book By Its Cover: This cover is beautiful (as are all the covers for the Deceit & Devotion series.) Honestly, it might be one of the prettiest paperbacks I own. I’ve discovered I like a lot of this author’s cover choices.
✨📖Review📖✨
This book was fast-paced, fun, and spicy. It was a great leisure/escape read. I would say about 70-80% of this book is smut/relationship stuff and the rest is plot, which helps set up the rest of the books in this series. (The author says these are standalones, which they can be, but in my opinion, if you read book 2 first it kinda spoils one of the little twists which happens in the last third of the first book.)
Speaking of the last third, I’ve seen a few reviews talking about a tone change during that time and they’re right. It gets a bit more serious for a few chapters and something happens that causes trust issues for Tatum, our FMC. She no longer knows if she can trust Rafael, MMC. This is resolved fairly quickly and the two DO end up with a HEA.
Tatum has boundaries, and is independent, choosing to follow her own career path despite what her (crappy) parents are trying to force her into. She lives with her two best friends Brynn and Miley, and they are great examples of friends sometimes being better than family. I enjoyed their friendship; the author did a nice job making it feel like the 3 of them were really comfortable with each other and have known each other for a long time.
NOW…let’s talk a little bit about Rafael, because let’s be honest, guys like this are a big part of why we read these sort of books in the first place, right? He’s a tall, dark haired, handsome and charismatic demon who has been in prison for the last year and has been starved for lust. (Lust is what keeps demons alive. His relationship with Tatum gets sexual quickly because of this.)
He’s good in bed, good with dirty talk and flirting, he's rich, and would give Tatum the world if she asked for it. (I think he’s actually quite sweet.) He’s all about her pleasure 1.) because he genuinely loves her (he fell first) and 2.) because her pleasure literally feeds him (and she tastes REALLY good to him.) He listens to her and is respectful of her, not pushing her to do anything she’s not comfortable with. Rafael can be a bit jealous at times if he thinks other men, including his own two hot demon brothers, are interested in Tatum. Rafe ended up going on my book boyfriend list by the end of the book, so
If you’re looking for something quick, fun, and mostly spice with guys that are clearly made to be drooled over, I would give this a try! I’ll definitely be reading the other two books in this series as well as some of Lola’s other work. I think she might be one of my new guilty pleasure authors!
Thank you for reading! If you liked my review/thoughts, consider following me on [GoodReads], [Bookstagram], or [Threads]! (I tend to post on GoodReads & Threads first!)

thinking about how the demon king specifically targeted the elves first for their magic, how elves were the first to possess the means to oppose his armies through their craft of magic and how it originally was only an 'elven' thing, and how the elves were the first to point blankly, be wiped out save for very scarce amounts. there are no longer any elf villages in fri.eren's universe, at least, not so far in the 120+ chapters in the manga we've only seen fri.eren, kraft, and se.rie. i think that makes a lot of sense, actually .
friere.n's drive to kill demons marking her as the most effective at killing demons in history, 'the slayer' and in a sense, of monsters in general, albeit she isn't a melee range fighter like say, hi.mmel or stark or eisen , it would be extremely unlikely and borderline improbable for her to meet her fallen race. if anything, it's sad because fri.eren says without much emotion how they are 'dying' and 'going extinct' and she doesn't even really know where any are.
so we have an essentially immortal being not only dealing with the 'extinction' of her loved ones through mortal death , but also the extinction of her people, something she knows all too well in her early centuries when the demon king targeted her village, her enclave of elven community, and wiped them out save herself, who killed the general sent to slaughter them. so for fri.eren's party that travels, people blatantly gaping at her like that merchant she helped? makes total sense. it would take a miracle and a blue moon to see an elf, and it's probably a miracle in itself that even three exist.
the tragedy is in that, the flow of time and the acceptance that magic is no longer limited to the elves but all humans, is something fri.eren, like flamme, fully embraces, but i can't imagine she doesn't feel some hidden, unreadable sorrow about it. after all, she laments to her master that she wasn't strong enough to protect her people from dying. so if you see fri.eren in threads, not just because she's the legendary mage who killed the demon king . . . it's also because she's a literal elf, and you just don't see that anymore. she and serie, kraft....they're a dying breed of an age passing into something new: humanity.

Truly the heart is deceitful, and out of its depths of corruption Rise, like an exhalation, the misty phantoms of passion; Angels of light they seem, but are only delusions of Satan.

Parents Not Included
Summary: When Patton sold his soulmates soul to a demon, he should have worried what being the perfect dad or dad friend could become. Janus is more than happy to let that extreme make Patton's life go downhill fast. They know Remus has already had his revenge but they can add their own, after all, they were the one to make the deal.
Part of my Anxceitmus Demonic Soulmates AU
/\/\
Technically, demonic deals can't be turned back on the person who made them. Technicalities mean nothing however, in the face of rage, twisted deals and scheming if the demon the deal was made with was smart enough.
Janus definitely was smart enough.
Of course they would never do anything to break or take back the deal they'd made. It brought them to Virgil and they would do nothing to ever endanger their second soulmate. They could easily however fulfil the deal too well, too perfectly, while leaving out one simple exception to it.
Patton had wanted to be the greatest dad or dad friend ever, so that's what Janus made him seem like, to everyone, except the parents of actual children, the police or the courts. It was a trap simply made, and easily ready to be fallen into.
/\/\
Blending into the background was easy enough, especially for beings who didn't need to remain in one physical form and could easily push everyone's attention elsewhere.
And there, walking down the street was Patton, the image of a perfect dad for everyone to see, even including a child holding his hand as he looked about in concern.
“Mr Dad, why are we coming back this way? You said you'd help me.” The child was whining.
Patton glanced down immediately going back to looking around the people nearby. “Well you ran over from this direction. Don't you need to return to your parents, let them know you're safe?”
“Of course I'm safe, Mr Dad. I'm with you.” Ah for childhood innocence and a deal strongly fulfilled. Janus hid their smirk behind a book, but his eyes tracked directly to further along the path.
“Olivia! Where did you go? What happened?” A frantic mother charged along it, immediately sweeping the child into her arms and rounding on Patton with a fiery glare. “What the hell are you doing with my child, Creep!”
Patton raised his hands backing away a little. “She came and asked me for help. I was retracing her steps to try and find you.” He attempted to explain, but was already being yelled at again.
“Likely Story! You were abducting her, weren't you? I've seen men like you before, all friendly and nice to the kids until you get them where you want them!” The rant is harsh, and enough to get more people paying attention, including some passing officers.
“Excuse me, Ma'am, but can you explain what's happened?” One of them asked, approaching and looking sternly over Patton.
Janus decided they didn't need to see more today, especially since a bus had just pulled up at the stop they'd decided to wait in. They could check back on the outcome of this deal in a few months time.
/\/\
Since the deal, since learning demons exist and becoming soulmates with 2 of them, Virgil had learnt that demons, possibly even more so than bankers, ensured debts were paid to their liking, and that included getting revenge.
He'd known that Remus would get revenge on Patton at the first opportunity. That had been why he never questioned getting Anathema from the store his ex had worked at, and why he still avoided complaining about frustrating people from work too much. Just in case someone who'd just been having a bad day got punished for upsetting him.
What he had assumed however was that the deal Patton had made with Janus would prevent the other demon from being able to get revenge.
Coming home to see Remus and Janus giggling on the couch as smug and happy as can be had Virgil questioning that idea.
“What's got you two so happy?” He asked, easily letting himself be pulled into the cuddles.
Janus nuzzled into his neck, purring, “Figured out some small revenge for a deal gone bad.”
Now some alarms would be ringing in his mind, except he knew there was nothing he could really do to control the pair. “Another one? I thought the last deal you said went bad was Patton's and Remus already got plenty of revenge for that.”
“Didn't he just.” They agreed, making no other comment.

Spiritual Paths strewn with Traps.
I have decided to write about my own personal spiritual journey, hoping that this may be ‘relatable’ and that it might help someone see things with greater clarity. I have always felt the urge to do my small part in helping to get Christ’s message out there. I certainly do not mean ‘preaching’ or ‘teaching’. There are many preachers and teachers out there…..I am certainly not one of them. So…

Honestly this whole thing is giving D&D-being-tired-with-GoT-and-rushing-the-ending.
Like they want to move on to other things and not respect everything that has come before. It feels like a cash cow. They need to bring new people into the franchise without scaring them away with giant lore but at the expense of the fans who've been here since 2009.
We LIVED for the one liners. We LIVED for the little codex's explaining our previous lore.
I pray this was a cost decision on Biowares part, and the writers wrote around it, but I am afraid. Fear is now the devil on my shoulder, and Deceit lives in my heart.
Just give me to Falon'din now.
I think the issue with them saying they wanted to not have any throw away lines about your choices in DAI, DA2 and DAO but just focus on major things is like...
They absolutely should have a button that is Bioware Canon or something so you don't have to think about them if you don't want to.
But throw away lines add a lot to my experience actually. Seeing Connor there in DAI when my warden saved him. Having the letters from the warden that mention their LI popping up. Having Hawke mention which sibling is alive. Having Leliana mention Zevran if you become an assassin. Having Varric talk about Anders differently if he's alive or dead.
Because the thing is I GET that they can't make every little decision matter. I understand that. So throw away lines to give colour to the world you've been playing in actually is a good way around this! It makes players go !!! Without alienating new players or requiring them to write a shit ton of different script and whole ass game to account for a decision that only 15% of players made.
I don't think it should be either/or is what I'm saying.
