This is my review/thoughts on The Defiled by Jade Lane & Em Jay

Rating: ⭐️⭐️⭐️ 3.75 Stars! Is there spice? LOL, YEAH. Major taboo aspects of a nun and a demon (incubus) having a sexual relationship. - Expect dirty talk (some of it being religious), fingering, biting, blood, taking virginity, wet dreams, oral sex, sex in a church, etc…

TWs: As I said, taboo religious things. General sexual content. Blood. Death. Crucifixion.

Judging a Book By It’s Cover: …No comment. The cover DEFINITELY isn’t what initially got my attention. I’m not sure what you mean.

✨📖Review📖✨ Boy, did this surprise me. I thought I would give this book 3 stars at first, then it changed to 4 stars, and then by the end I somehow ended up saying “you know what? 5 stars.” I bumped it down to 4 stars after a few days, but still... I think it’s because the plot actually ended up being pretty dang good?? There were a couple of things that I didn’t see coming. Just overall a pleasant surprise. I saw a few reviews before I started reading that said they couldn’t wait for book 2. I didn’t understand what could happen that would make them say that… But now that I’m done. Uh??? Sign me up for book 2, please!!! I’d like to see where this goes.

This is one of those pieces of work that do a good job of making you root for the “bad/evil” thing. I didn’t like Mother Superior or Sister Angie and ended up finding Heath, our little demon, to be kind of…endearing? I even liked his twisted sense of humor (which I’m kind of ashamed to say, haha. There was a teeny tiny bit of shame nagging at me throughout the whole thing, and I’m not even that religious… It’s fine. It’s FINE.) I really liked the protection provided by his mark on her. 👀

You know it’s enticing in some way if I end up reading it in one day. 😅 I’m glad I ended up giving this a go! (The short bonus chapter at the end with Heath and Father Keith was also greatly enjoyed. That is NOT how I expected things went down between them, even after learning the truth about their past.)

My thoughts/review of Reserved by Ashley Jacobs & S. S. Rich!

Rating: ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️ 5 Stars!

Is there spice? UH. YEAH. Whew!! Tons of spice in this one, but a good amount of plot too! Very insta-love (obviously it’s part of the tropes in the description), things got flirty and spicy between them pretty quickly. Some things to expect: toys, dirty talk, Italian sweet nothings, vaginal and anal fingering, squirting, breeding kink, oral sex (giving and receiving), a jacuzzi scene, multiple orgasms…Uhm, I’m probably forgetting some stuff.

Potential TWs: Some miscommunication, some small anger issue moments from MMC (not directed at FMC), brief illness, mentions of a car accident, mentions of death of a parent (in the past), insecurity.

Judging a Book By It’s Cover: It’s cute! Simple. I like the map of the Bay area with Cami’s menu, color scheme, and actual camellia flowers on it.

✨📖Review📖✨

This was my first contemporary romance book, and before I started reading I was worried it wouldn’t hold my interest like romantasy does… I was wrong to worry. This was SO good. I hope I enjoy more contemporary romances as much as I enjoyed this one.

The romance and spice was fantastic (a little love bomb-y straight away, but it’s fiction so it’s fiiiine, lol.)! Van Costa, our MMC, is SUCH book boyfriend material. Hello??? 

Things I Liked:

The supporting characters (specifically Preston, LB, Lex, and Cece). I liked their personalities and the way their friendships were depicted throughout the book. Honestly, I NEED a friend like Preston, please.

I loved the way that Preston and LB helped Cami work through and reframe some of the issues she had. (The same for Lex with Van too!) I’m just glad Van & Cami each had people help them see they needed to communicate better.

VAN. Obviously. Again, hello??? Do I need to repeat myself? Where’s the sign-up sheet to get what Cami has?

That Cami wasn’t afraid to stand up for herself when cornered.

I kind of wish we had gotten to see Cami actually meet Van’s Mom, but that’s fine, not that big of a deal. Oh! Imagine your man's dick is so good that you'll have sex with him even when you're trying to recover from pneumonia, LOL. I don't know how I felt about that, but okay. He's very hot, so I'd honestly probably try it too lmao.

Overall, I really enjoyed this. I read the EBook version, and I’ll probably end up buying a physical copy at some point. Honestly I feel so invested in Cami and Van’s relationship at this point that I would end up reading another book about them if given the chance. 😅

P.S.) Uhm @ the authors… thank you for the bonus chapter too. I didn’t know I needed that, but I did. Sheesh.

My thoughts/review on How to Fall in Love with a Demon by Lola Glass!

(Updated review: Changing my rating from 4 stars to 5 stars as of July 19th, 2024 because I can't stop thinking about this book and the characters.)

Rating: ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️ 5 Stars!

Is there spice? YEAH... Multiple open door, descriptive scenes. The demons literally feed on lust. There are a few casual mentions of sex in between. There’s use of vibrators, mutual masturbation, dirty talk, & moments of having sex in a "shifted demon form" (featuring horns, wings, tails, and well…a few physical enlargements.)

TWs:  Kidnapping, blood, estranged family/family trouble

Judging a Book By Its Cover: This cover is beautiful (as are all the covers for the Deceit & Devotion series.) Honestly, it might be one of the prettiest paperbacks I own. I’ve discovered I like a lot of this author’s cover choices.

✨📖Review📖✨

This book was fast-paced, fun, and spicy. It was a great leisure/escape read. I would say about 70-80% of this book is smut/relationship stuff and the rest is plot, which helps set up the rest of the books in this series. (The author says these are standalones, which they can be, but in my opinion, if you read book 2 first it kinda spoils one of the little twists which happens in the last third of the first book.)

Speaking of the last third, I’ve seen a few reviews talking about a tone change during that time and they’re right. It gets a bit more serious for a few chapters and something happens that causes trust issues for Tatum, our FMC. She no longer knows if she can trust Rafael, MMC. This is resolved fairly quickly and the two DO end up with a HEA. 

Tatum has boundaries, and is independent, choosing to follow her own career path despite what her (crappy) parents are trying to force her into. She lives with her two best friends Brynn and Miley, and they are great examples of friends sometimes being better than family. I enjoyed their friendship; the author did a nice job making it feel like the 3 of them were really comfortable with each other and have known each other for a long time.

NOW…let’s talk a little bit about Rafael, because let’s be honest, guys like this are a big part of why we read these sort of books in the first place, right? He’s a tall, dark haired, handsome and charismatic demon who has been in prison for the last year and has been starved for lust. (Lust is what keeps demons alive. His relationship with Tatum gets sexual quickly because of this.) 

He’s good in bed, good with dirty talk and flirting, he's rich, and would give Tatum the world if she asked for it. (I think he’s actually quite sweet.) He’s all about her pleasure 1.) because he genuinely loves her (he fell first) and 2.) because her pleasure literally feeds him (and she tastes REALLY good to him.) He listens to her and is respectful of her, not pushing her to do anything she’s not comfortable with. Rafael can be a bit jealous at times if he thinks other men, including his own two hot demon brothers, are interested in Tatum. Rafe ended up going on my book boyfriend list by the end of the book, so…

If you’re looking for something quick, fun, and mostly spice with guys that are clearly made to be drooled over, I would give this a try! I’ll definitely be reading the other two books in this series as well as some of Lola’s other work. I think she might be one of my new guilty pleasure authors!
