It really does look like pivoting to Harris has thrown the Republican party for a loop. She's speaking clearly, concisely, and with wit; if she were to be put in the ring with Trump, it would be a knockout if only because she's coherent.
I'm voting blue regardless, but I've started to feel like I've moved from voting for the 'least bad' option to someone I might actually be more passionate in supporting.

actually i wanna expand on this a little (i say, with no visible lead up):
emmrich, to a rook not from the mourn watch, literally says that all necromancers are mortalitasi, but not all mortalitasi are part of the mourn watch, when they ask him about it and the difference between them. he's absolutely happy to clarify because it's his mission to demystify necromancy and make it less scary to the people he's going to be working with, and it's his special interest. he'll info dump all day long about it.
what you gotta understand here is that the necropolis is this huge, functioning city of the dead, yes, that employs a lot of people. not just necromancers, they've got guards and groundskeepers and shop keepers and a slew of other folks that do different jobs, a lot of which don't require magic and that magic isn't in the skillset of the people working them. i imagine the ratio of mages to non-mages is very small, actually; it's just that the majority of the people we meet from the mourn watch and in the necropolis directly are mages.
basically: not every mourn watch member is a mage, there's other roles to fill and those undoubtedly outnumber the necromancers.
running that place has got to be expensive. like lucanis has a banter with emmrich where they talk about how it's probably the biggest money draw and driving force behind the nevarran economy, because i imagine you have to be able to afford to be buried there, you have to, like any burial ground, purchase your plot. who knows how big the necropolis actually is - it's got a bit of a tardis feel to it, maybe it's bigger on the inside and it's pulling a thing like hank pym's infinite mansion and just expands as needed - but i imagine real estate there comes at a premium. emmrich wasn't able to get his own parents buried there until he'd made full watcher, after all, and i imagine he had the disposable income to have them exhumed, moved, and re-interred in the gardens. with all the appropriate ritual around it.
so, the crux of it, tho, is that the mourn watch itself...i don't think you can say it's a political entity, in and of itself. there's one thing to be up to your ass in the machinations of the nobility, and there's another to be aware of who not to piss off, and what to be aware of to keep your organization functioning. knowing the court mortalitasi and their corpse whisperer are puppeting king markus around and not saying anything because it'll look bad on everyone involved in necromancy - an already villified art outside of their borders - even if they have nothing to do with it.
and the money thing: they need that noble gold to keep themselves going. it's just a fact of life, guys, it's shitty, but they have to take in money and donations from the nobility to pay people, for upkeep on the necropolis itself, to buy supplies they need, the list goes on, organizations like theirs don't run on a budget of five bucks and good will. rook was a casualty (if a member of the mourn watch) of a tough decision, because they pissed off nobles that donate much needed money. but i don't think it was so much as kicking them out forever and ever, actually, but more to get them out of sight, out of mind for a time until the heat was off of them and the next thing to piss off the gentry made them forget about it.
rook was always going to be able to come back home at some point, is what i'm saying, they're the crypt baby. they just had to be removed from sight for a little while so the heat could die down.
i have, like, a whole other thing about the circles in nevarra - how sure i'm willing to bet money the smaller circles in bumfuck nowhere were as shitty as elsewhere to a degree (though to me - the way i've read it - it seems the mages elsewhere freaked out during the rebellions because they were afraid the people of the villages and such were going to come for them, not that they were necessarily directly involved but that's a whole ass thing if you side with the templars over the mages in dai, which is also an entire other thing). and how if the mourn watch were a purely political entity someone like emmrich - an orphan, from a poor background, taken in as a ward of the mourn watch itself - would probably never have ended up where he is, with actual status and wealth, because he is of a common origin and didn't have a dime to his name starting out.
point is: tacitly keeping your mouth shut about the king being undead to keep hundreds of people employed and not embarrass your whole ass country on a world stage isn't great (i'm american, ask me how that feels right now lmao), but it's a necessary evil when you're essentially a publicly funded university and funeral home if you want to stay a publicly funded university and funeral home.
#back by unpopular demand - me / ooc.#( tbd )#// like i do think there's some hinky shit going on in the necropolis#// but i think it's less of the politically void of morals type and more of the#// spooky shit that's not great variety#// but as a whole like#// you gotta remember they're basically the crux of the nevarran economy#// that's where the gold goes#// the university pulls in money from people from tevinter sending their kids there#// because magic is a science and a scholarly pursuit in both places#// and the necropolis itself is sucking money out of the gentry for premium tomb space#// so they have to walk a tightrope#// it's why they have etiquette classes lbr#// but they themselves are beholden to those political whims#// if not a part of it#// thanks for coming there's donuts and coffee in the back

the "imperial core" is an abstraction which is useful for people seeking grant funding, recording a podcast, or writing a jacobin article. if one is attempting to develop an actionable political strategy where the goal is to win, however, i would suggest trying other analytical approaches first
#not even opposed to cores. wallerstein's core-periphery model has merit and is analytically useful wrt political economy.#but strategy should not rely on abstractions. winning is concrete and it demands material plans goals and mechanisms.

Review #1 of N. Gregory Mankiw's Principle of Micro Economics (9th edition)
Context
"[Opponents of the minimum wage] note that a high minimum wage causes unemployment, encourages teenagers to drop out of school, and prevents some unskilled workers from getting on the job training . . . Not all minimum wage workers are heads of households trying to help their families escape poverty. In fact, less than a third of minimum-wage earners are in families with incomes below the poverty line. Many are teenagers from middle-class homes working at part-time jobs for extra spending money" (117, Chapter 6 Supply, Demand, and Government Policies | The Minimum Wage)
Questions
???
Where is the data for the final statement? If not data, then why is it presented alongside statistics without a disclaimer, and treated as fact that opponents have pointed out? ("opponents of the minimum-wage point out" [117, Markiv]).
Disclaimer: am a teenager, paying for my own school, who is above the poverty line, but can't afford to move out of my parents house. Inherent Bias.

Throughout the Soviet and Lukashenko propaganda, many may think that anarchists in Belarus are barricades and clashes with OMON. But anarchism is much more than that. Somewhere behind the scenes, there is an idea that people can live with dignity and without a dictator and Bolsheviks.
Anarchists in Belarus pointed out even before the protests started that getting rid of Lukashenko was just the first step in the struggle for people’s freedom. The regime was not built in a single day and its destruction would require people’s will. All bureaucrats and officials who supported this regime would have to leave. And their posts and positions will have to be dismantled so that no one can recreate the dictatorship.
We understand that today’s revolution, despite its self-organization and huge collective energy, is still not anti-authoritarian. And we do not see it as a relevant and appropriate solution to declare an anarchist program. But even under such conditions, we consider it necessary to declare a minimum program, which is necessary to avoid the formation of another authoritarian regime. We have been ruled by strong rulers for over a hundred years. It’s time to show that people can do better!
Let us repeat – the anarchist program is much more radical from the one presented below, but we have tried to set realistic requirements, taking into account the context of the uprising, and set the vector of self-organization and grassroots self-governance to political and social transformations.
Decentralization of power
Organization of real regional self-government instead of today’s butaford one.
Accountability of delegates/deputies to the bottom, not the top.
Maintaining a removable mandate for delegates/deputies. This means that at any moment an elected deputy/deputy may be recalled by the elected team if, in the opinion of the team, he does not perform the work assigned to him.
Decentralization and federalization of power structures. Transfer of greater responsibility to regional elected assemblies
People for administrative roles in enterprises, educational and medical systems and other state institutions are chosen by the employees of these institutions.
Radical reduction of the staff of administrations and state control bodies of all levels, as well as courts.
President
A tribunal is being established to resolve all violations during the rule of Lukashenko.
Money from personal accounts and ownership of Lukashenko are transferred to local budgets
The post of president is being abolished
Referendum
The authorities in the country are the people, so all decisions on changing the legislation, international treaties and other important decisions must be made by general referendum.
The referendum is held 4 times a year.
Any citizen has the right to raise the issue of changing the law at a referendum when collecting 100,000 signatures.
Decriminalization
Restoration of all workers and students dismissed during the protests
Release and rehabilitation of all detainees and arrested during protests
Release of all political prisoners
Exclusion of political articles from administrative and criminal codes
Prohibition of censorship on the Internet and in mass media
Abolition of the death penalty
Complete abolition of all repressive laws: the law on mass events and the law on countering extremism.
Freedom of speech, press and assembly fixed by law
Militia
Tribunals for all security forces responsible for repression, violence and murder
Disbandment of OMON, GUBOPiK and internal troops
Transfer of control over police to local authorities. Selection of heads of regional ROVDs
Reduction of the state budget for the police
Autosacks and water cannons for scrap metal – these cars should never appear on the streets of our cities!
Prohibition on forming trade unions within the law enforcement agencies
Armed Forces
Abolition of universal military duty
Suspension of all officers responsible for introducing troops into the country’s cities
Military Budget Cuts
Medicine
Health budget increase
Increase in salaries of medical personnel
Transformation of the parallel medical system for officials and law enforcement officers into a general health care system – hospitals and clinics should serve people, not government posts!
The dismissal of every manager responsible for falsifying coronavirus data
Education
Budget increase for education
Cancellation of mandatory training for those studing for free
University autonomy – militia and other power structures are forbidden to enter the territory of educational institutions.
Free education for all
Restoration of all professors and teachers dismissed during the protests
Freedom of association – everyone has the right to join student unions and participate in the student council
Dissolution of BRSM
Courts
Firing of judges responsible for political repression
Judges are elected, not appointed, for a term of 4 years
At the request of the accused, a jury trial may be used
Labor
The right to independent trade unions. The union does not need to request registration
The right to strike – workers have the right to strike when deemed necessary and to make political, economic and social demands.
Factories to the workers! Administrative positions are elected and are appointed from below, not from above, for a limited period. The administration is responsible to the workers.
Prohibition on privatization of large enterprises
Reduction of workers only with the consent of workers’ collectives
Cancellation of contract system and replacement by collective agreements
Disbandment of the Federation of Trade Unions of Belarus.
Cancellation of Decree No. 3
Financial and social support for the unemployed. The level of unemployment benefits should not be lower than the minimum wage.
Cancellation of pension reform.
Program to support the cooperative movement
Modernization of loss-making enterprises. In case it is necessary to reduce the number of workers, the state structures should provide the possibility of retraining for actual specialties.
Economy
Progressive income tax – the rich must pay more poor to finance the state budget
Active investment attraction in IT sector
Simplification of migration rules to attract specialists from other countries
Attaching the salary of managers to the minimum. Salaries of an official should not exceed 3 minimum wages in the country.
A digital system of production and consumption planning, which allows minimizing the surplus and avoiding the deficit.
Equalization of wages at state enterprises between the capital and regions
The repayment of the external public debt at the expense of Lukashenko and his family, as well as the Presidential Fund.
The property of the convicts under the Tribunal shall be confiscated and sold, the funds shall be directed to the victims and their relatives.
Termination of the tax benefits regime for the Belarusian Orthodox Church
PrameńGovernment transparency
Any government initiatives are published online for citizens’ information
When requesting, any citizen should have access to official correspondence of elected delegates and officials.
Opening of KGB archives
Access to government documents on request
There are no secret government expenditure items

nobody is blaming cows: environmentalists blame the consumer eating them when they could be eating lower in the food chain instead.
"not everyone can go vegan, let's blame corporations" but when companies supply plant based festivities, the party-goers protest that their meat is taken away. This happened at the Paris 2024 Olympics and it happened with Google employees many years ago, where the respective company was obligated to provide meat after the attendees protested.
Also if you want to blame China for their emissions, well, they have massive slaughterhouses to accommodate their Westernized diet. We are all guilty.
#Vegan#text post#rant#environmental veganism#complaining#plant-based#Jack Higgs will ask ppl “Do you understand supply and demand” and then ask ppl to explain it#supply and demand still applies if the economy is communist#And it applies in our present economy#But what I'm really mad at is how cow is a slur you can tell these ppl see them as goofy unfeeling objects they can do as they please

Anyways I just think it’s Incheresting that the sentiment that has been echoed in the Vtuber space for months now is that “You don’t need an expensive model or equipment to be a good Vtuber! You need to focus on being entertaining and bringing something new and unique to the space! It’s not money it’s hard work!” until someone starts getting clowned on for using a L2D model for a FREE concert and then all of a sudden it’s “well if they only spent more MONEY-“ “If they just dropped 1.5K on some equipment-“
Like shouldn’t the fact he was a good singer doing this for fun for free be enough for y’all? Or are we demanding Hololive level productions from every schmuck that wants to do something for their fans now?
Make up your MINDS
#not to mention they were Thai so demanding they spend 1.5k of American dollars on shit is even more insane#considering the differences in economies#anyway leave that dude ALONE
