“Post-punk, like most music genre labels, has only as much meaning as you choose to give it. It tends to be associated with the new wave sounds of the late 70s/early 80s, but it really sums up an ethos, an attitude rather than a haircut or preferred style of denim, and in this approach, the compilation works incorporating bands and tracks from the early 00s with its heyday. Call it post-millennial angst, but there certainly seemed enough to get angry and shouty about in order to bring out the choppy guitars and grungy basslines again in the toddler years of the 21st century. . Thus we have The Rapture and The Futureheads nestling smugly alongside classic tracks from The Slits, 23 Skidoo, Au Pairs, Wire and the majestic Gang of Four, who kick of this comp with their equally majestic I Found That Essence Rare. Incidentally it was the day after I listened to this that I heard the sad news that their guitarist Andy Gill had died. . It’s great to hear lesser known or less obvious choices from the titans of this era: PiL (Careering), Wire (Ex Lion Tamer), The Fall (Industrial Estate) and XTC, with the brilliant tongue-in-cheek, Is This Pop? alongside those that are completely new (to me, at least) and this comp provides an eclectic mix between the familiar and unknown gems. Personal favourites are Mind Your Own Business by Delta 5, The Leanover by Life Without Buildings, Too Many Creeps by Bush Tetras, and Debbie Harry by Family Fodder. All of which goes to show that the women do punk proper, and the future is clearly female...” . alright time to talk about the Control Team

Pi: team Captain who treats the other members like his little siblings. Control Team's muscle. his associated Abnormality is the Mirror of Adjustment. has both long-term and short-term memory issues. he's taken Alyssa under his wing. as the most physically fit in this whole facility, he's left shockingly idle for most of the day, waiting for Abnormalities to breach or an Ordeal to begin. he uses this downtime to chat with other idle coworkers and pick up sodas from WellCheers to hand out to the injured. did he always have that stubble?

Alyssa: affectionally nicknamed "The Intern," Alyssa does all the work nobody else wants to. ignored Abnormality having a meltdown? send Alyssa! new tool Abnormality arrive with zero information? get testing, Alyssa! not enough clerks alive to take care of the busywork? send Alyssa! she's getting more and more frustrated with this treatment, but she's decided the best way to deal with it is to become stronger under Pi's guidance. sometimes mistaken for a clerk by other departments. has her picture messily taped to the wall for chugging 15 doses of Giant Tree Sap in one visit and living to tell the tale. because of this, she's commonly assigned to work with tool Abnormalities, since she has such a lucky track record. she doesn't seem to think it's so lucky, though...

Ryn: originally only hired due to a lack of applicants, Ryn took to the Control Team like a duck to water. while she still has to hide out in an Abnormality's room when an Ordeal occurs, that doesn't mean she isn't of use; just ask the clerks who've had run-ins with the Red Shoes. due to Pi's excessive strength, the task of subduing those with... "altered"... minds falls to her. She always seems to stumble upon the right thing to say. The clerks are particularly fond of her for that.

Mason: The youngest member of the Control Team, Mason has a lot of pressure on him to perform well. Unlike Ryn, he had a rocky start in the team, finding himself right in the middle of multiple disasters during his first week. Thankfully, he made it through, but the experience has left him with an ever-present tremble. Perhaps it's because of this that he was given the only available Pleasure suit, despite having never worked with Porccubus. It certainly seems to have calmed him down. Now, he works with the Nameless Fetus, which he seems to have an odd fondness for. Maybe its cries reminds him of his previous helplessness?

Delta5: A clerk in the Control Team, Delta5's origin is as mysterious as their compulsion to alter their identification badge. Dubbing themselves "Neo," they carry out the tasks given to them with little complaint, under one condition: They do NOT have to walk by the Mirror of Adjustment. Someone really should crack down on these clerks' superstitions...
