my pain is not just chronic. it's fucking forever. it's going to get worse. how do I even begin to explain that to new people?

The internet opening new doors for people with degenerative diseases to see and meet other people like them has been incredible in so many ways. However, it can also be quite horrifying seeing your future.

Normalising it and sharing your life and showing others that life is still worth living with your disease is amazing. But yeah, just see the future symptoms you’ll potentially develop is sometimes scary.

Especially seeing people with your condition dying. Then you reach the age which they died and it’s so bittersweet yet terrifying. And with conditions where your future is completely uncertain. Yes that could mean you won’t need to use a wheelchair, or a feeding tube, or oxygen, or anything else, but you COULD.

Seeing that play out when in the past maybe you could have had more hope with the uncertainty sometimes doesn’t feel like a positive.

The whumpee trying new mobility aids. They help, somewhat. But the more they use them, the more they hurt.

Crutches bruise their armpits and misalign their hips. Canes cause wrist pain, eventually causing their entire arm to get too tired to use it. A wheelchair requires upper body strength they haven’t quite honed yet.

They wonder if it’s worth it to even use one if they’d be in pain anyways.

i kinda hate that im asking this but - if i were to open up commissions to help save up for a motorized wheelchair (one that i can actually use / transport bc the one i bought was a lie but since it's completely brand new / unused + put together already im going to sell it to pay for some of the cost) would anybody be interested ?

like. i would be open to doing art / writing / moodboards / phone backgrounds and such. i'd make it pwyw bc i know ppl don't have much money these days and i'm very unsure of how to do my own pricing.

the motorized wheelchair i need is a little over $3k (which. yowch. ik.) and i can probably get ~$2k for the one i bought bc that's what i spent, but i'd be willing to negotiate w/ a nice person, so im going to need to save up ~$1k for it :(
