The fact that Luigi's speech patterns are the exact same in Super Paper Mario and this episode of Super Mario Brothers 3 is making me all kinds of giddy.

You know what, that actually makes sense. Sometimes I forget how hard it is to make characters lie in media because it's a balancing act of when the audience needs to know the truth and when they need to know if the characters are lying. And then you've gotta make it clear to little kids that they're lying and everyone else comes out looking like a dumbass for it. Just kinda weird to me that they manage to sometimes straddle the line with other characters, but not with the character who lies the most.
Yeah exactly like
Little kids probably get it when they see Mari go "I need to go uh... flavorize my hamster's deflavorizer!' and then run off to go be Ladybug that she's lying to go be Ladybug.
But Lila saying 'Hey I'm totally bffs with *insert celebrity here*!' is a lot more plausible in this world. So they go out of their way to show how even in the world her claims are implausible and have in-the-know characters like Mari and Adrien call her out.
Which /does/ make the cast look like morons for believing obvious lies that a small child would be able to see through, but it's part of the medium. You're supposed to roll with it.

he's been brainwashed and people think that's fucked him up but he was always fucked up just in a milder and more reserved manner before. he doesn't remember shit and doesn't question it. everyone around him fucking sucks compared to him. he needed to deflavorize his robot's flavorizer. he kicked a child. he's greasy. he stinks of motor oil and cheap energy drinks. he won't answer no matter how many times you ask him if he's slept in the past three days. he wants to kill you so bad and he probably could if you were literally anyone else. he dies and comes back to life at one point, un-brainwashed. then an hour later he dies and comes back to life again, then he gets fully mind-controlled. he also built a fully-functioning spaceship.

The 1967 French-Italian comedy by Jacques Tati imagines a futuristic Paris in which the protagonist, Monsieur Hulot, bumps (quite literally and figuratively) against the orderly, sterile, and technologically advanced built environment of the city, illustrating the shortcomings of such spaces in fulfilling the needs for more organic human engagement.
Film critic Richard Brody of the New Yorker comments on Playtime with: “The colossal architecture of his [Tati’s] sets suggests a satirical delight in the colossal follies of the International Style (and he makes comic use of what he derides as its deflavorizing, impersonal internationalism), but his delight is mitigated by his recognition that its mechanisms mechanize its dwellers and workers, that its uniformity renders people uniform, that its order both reflects and heightens a bureaucratic blindness that threatens the emotional life.”
