166h, I finally finished Baldur's Gate 3! What a game!

As I knew very little about DnD rules when I started, I have to say the entire combat system and how to use skills and what they really do didn't make sense to me at first. The game gives no explanation, seeing a weapon being 1d6 or 1d8 meant nothing because what it means is never explained. There's no tutorial. You know DnD or you don't. And when I say nothing is explained, I mean nothing. You play and the game never proposes you a small tutorial about DnD basics. Very strange. So you have to go find the answers yourself.

Bugs also prevented me to finish an important companion quest. I'm a bit bitter about this one, I really wanted to finish it but if what I read is true, then it's really because of a bug. Ah well, the outcome was also interesting, just not the one I was planning.

The end was also sort of bugged, I had to manually end all the conversations, and had to pass what seemed to be a transition black screen at the very end, and I hope I didn't miss anything because of that.

In spite of that, the game is really good, very rich, so many things to do and discover, long side quests, good romance (forever thankful for the updated kiss scene with Halsin) and good writing. The characters are nuanced and complex, as are the events, which makes a lot of decision sometimes very difficult to make. Everything has consequences and it's quite impressive how a choice you make early in the game will have consequences throughout the game, sometimes even a lot later with no mention of it for a very long time.

I'd recommend this game even if you don't know DnD. It's a very good RPG, just know that you have to read about DnD rules before to play the game more easily. I also feel like the PS5 version is less easy to play than the PC one, less flexibility with the UI and various other things, so if you have a good gaming PC, it's a better choice for this game for sure.

Silent Hill 2 Remake snubbed of a nomination for Game Of The Year is horrendous actually. They literally made the rule of DLC being allowed this year just so Shadow Of Erdtree could get plastered over a far more deserving spot. It’s just DLC no matter what angle you look at it from, not a whole entire modern remake of a beloved classic that manages to do what people thought impossible by improving it in several aspects and is just as amazing a story as the original. Just say you rigged it for Elden Ring to win twice in a row Geoff I swear I won't throttle you as hard if you confess.

everything warfield related (be it game or media outside of it) will be posted in a timely manner since i haven’t actually finished my 3rd playthrough, which is an extreme exaggeration because i haven’t made it to the second time-skip LMAO. but i already have 70 clips in my g-drive which is kinda insane and i’m fearing that it’ll hit 300 by the time i’m done…and i need the storage for rebirth ohhhh.

baldur’s gate 3 did not even remotely deserve to win game of the year that shit isn’t even properly finished, especially considering some of the games it went up against. they only added the epilogue in major patch fucking 5 and act 3 is STILL barebones as shit. and THIS beat tears of the kingdom AND spider-man 2????? nah i’m pissed about this, i’m fully convinced they ignored actual game quality in favour of what was hyped on social media close to award season

okay after thinking past the initial anger i’m adding this on the end just to make a more coherent point. goty is “given to a video game judged to deliver the best experience across creative and technical fields” (goty wikipedia page introduction). i fully believe that bg3, with its plethora of bugs, technical issues, and other mechanical problems that very much have been game-breaking for some people (and even when it isn’t, still wildly frustrating), very much does not deliver “the best experience across technical fields” by a long shot. i will say the creativity part is down to personal taste and therefore i would find this win a lot more acceptable if goty didn’t make any comment on mechanical functioning of the game, but the thing is it DOES. so because of this i am now sulking

re4remake is goty in my heart. i need no external validation on this. neat how my favorite game in 2005 can make a comeback to be my favorite game again nearly 20 years later.
