Balance, Weekends. Despite a quick trip to the lab on Saturday and Sunday, I managed to get in a good dose of self care, which includes reading (lots!), having a cozy and warm breakfast in bed and a long run. I am into more long distance / duration runs lately. It’s so mind-freeing. I usually listen to podcasts or do a guided run from the nike running app.

Kamalamma and the French experiment
Kamalamma and the French experiment
Myself Kamalamma from Kunjibettu, Karnataka. What to tell you? So much tragic news in newspaper and TV about shortage of beds and oxygen and ventilators and so many people are dying, really … mind is too much sad. They are calling it 2nd wave … but this is like maha tsunami. (more…)

4 JAN 2018 :: Reading up on basic papers regarding terrestrialisation and early plant evolution. I’m going to Lille next week to give a presentation and I am really not quite sure how much they will understand of my chemistry talk, when they’re all paleontologists. It’s really hard to judge.

19 FEB 2018 :: Today was a really good day at uni. My task right now revolves around the geology of Australia, particularly focusing on drilling cores that have early Paleozoic material preserved. After months (!) of not getting ahead, I found out how to work this task only last friday and made a plan for this week. I learnt a lot today and got ahead further than I did before, when I spent about 3 weeks on the same task.

Nothing works unless you do. I have had a quite unproductive month, to be frank. Or should I say, unproductive as long as my phd project is concerned? Because I spent the first two weeks making two posters for the conferences, then attended said conferences in another 1 ½ weeks, then gave a talk at the last day of all that long stretch and only one day later I moved into a new apartment. The moving happened last thursday, and my new flat is so so so quiet and beautiful (despite the boxes still standing around.)

11/07/2017 ::: Three pages of my “Notes (I)” moleskine. These notes are all part of a prestudy to even understand what I aim to research in my phd project. Some biodiversity and some sterol biosynthesis.

Diagnostic Fragmentation in some organic compounds. Quite important and basic notes for my project. This will come in handy in the future when I will identify compounds in GC-MS.

18.JUL2017 ::: Today was a good day. I attended my first grad school seminar (which was relatively uneventful) and a lab meeting, after which I felt weirdly relieved (?) because I could fill my to do list with many small tasks that I could tick off quickly after. So, pro tip: Write down tiny tasks, for crossing them off will induce positive feelings.

14.07.2017 ::  Started a new notebook to conquer my collection and bring all those notebooks to use. They’ve been waiting long enough. This one will be dedicated to collect information on Cambrian, Ordovician and Silurian geologic formations around the world, how to get there, what lithologies they show, how thermally mature they are, what fossils we might find in there. It’s a heap of tedious work but it needs to be done and will be an amazing collection in the end (I hope).
Also: Happy Bastille day, france!
