Balance, Weekends. Despite a quick trip to the lab on Saturday and Sunday, I managed to get in a good dose of self care, which includes reading (lots!), having a cozy and warm breakfast in bed and a long run. I am into more long distance / duration runs lately. It’s so mind-freeing. I usually listen to podcasts or do a guided run from the nike running app.

Kamalamma and the French experiment
Kamalamma and the French experiment
Myself Kamalamma from Kunjibettu, Karnataka. What to tell you? So much tragic news in newspaper and TV about shortage of beds and oxygen and ventilators and so many people are dying, really … mind is too much sad. They are calling it 2nd wave … but this is like maha tsunami. (more…)

4 JAN 2018 :: Reading up on basic papers regarding terrestrialisation and early plant evolution. I’m going to Lille next week to give a presentation and I am really not quite sure how much they will understand of my chemistry talk, when they’re all paleontologists. It’s really hard to judge.

Sunday, 26. August 2018 :: I had a good morning, got up around 6:30, made myself a big jug of green tea, did some yoga stretches, watched some youtube and found the motivation to actually make a trip to uni.
The whole friday I have been stressing over not having organised all my samples that I have worked up in the lab in the course of this month. It’s already some 70-100 little vials and I don’t know which box contains which samples. This has been freaking me out, so I made a plan to come in, take some time and sort through all of those little vials.
It took about 1h, maybe a bit more, to put labels on them, but I now have the peace of mind that I wanted, knowing where I stored what. It makes a huge difference to me. I might be a bit overshooting it in the organisation department, but that’s just how I am and it will probably not change.

16 JAN 2018 :: I think this week will become a rather productive one, despite not feeling like it at all. Sunday night I wrote my to do list for the upcoming day, well aware that there are likely too many tasks ahead. I managed to check off a fair share of them anyway. Same goes for today, tuesday, and hopefully also tomorrow. I am making progress with my project and that is all that counts.

7 JAN 2018 :: One of my new year’s resolutions was to do more yoga, so I dedicated a year-long tracker to this habit.

29. DEC 2017 ::: Help, I started Bullet Journaling and now i cannot stop. 😱🚨🚑📃 I spent a while practicing water colouring and lettering for the title page (the failure was documented in my story.) And also scoured some magazines ( hello @flow_magazin ) for pretty images to paste. It's so much fun.

19 FEB 2018 :: Today was a really good day at uni. My task right now revolves around the geology of Australia, particularly focusing on drilling cores that have early Paleozoic material preserved. After months (!) of not getting ahead, I found out how to work this task only last friday and made a plan for this week. I learnt a lot today and got ahead further than I did before, when I spent about 3 weeks on the same task.

Nothing works unless you do. I have had a quite unproductive month, to be frank. Or should I say, unproductive as long as my phd project is concerned? Because I spent the first two weeks making two posters for the conferences, then attended said conferences in another 1 ½ weeks, then gave a talk at the last day of all that long stretch and only one day later I moved into a new apartment. The moving happened last thursday, and my new flat is so so so quiet and beautiful (despite the boxes still standing around.)

31. DEC 2017 :: I finally started a bullet journal and I couldn’t be more stoked about it. I prepared ten trackers for the whole year to check off things that are important to me:
Yoga and Reading: I do too little of both, so this has to change, since I am aware of the benefits for my mental health and overall happiness.
Strength and Running: I like to run but I often skip doing the counterpart of strengthening my muscles adequately, which often results in knee pains. I need to keep track of that.
Period and B12: It’s just interesting to see how regular (or not) aunt flow is coming by and B12 is really just a reminder to myself, to take care of myself.
Uni: Was it a stressful or an okay day? have you been productive? I want to keep track to remind myself that only a few days are super stressful in which I doubt myself and my abilities and that for the most part I’m doing alright.
I still have room for 3 other things to track. Any ideas?

6. November 2017 :: Today was eerily productive despite severe sleep deprivation. I slept for only 4 hours last night, got up around 7:30 am, went for a morning run in the beautifully cold autumn morning sun, manage to track 8,5 km. Then at uni I also feel like I made some progress, albeit merely mentally. I talked to the other, now almost graduated, PhD student in our group and he helped tremendously figuring out the main aims of my project, and a plan of how to tackle my questions. He will also help me in the lab which I appreciate.
Then, after uni, I went to the city center and finally ordered new glasses. Now I’m having a sushi bowl (you know, for lazy people) and soon I’m going to snuggle up in bed and catch some Z’s.
TL;DR: I had a splendid monday.
