Deephaven by Ethan M. Aldridge
Tumblr media
From Ethan M. Aldridge, bestselling creator of Estranged, comes a gothic middle grade prose novel that follows a nonbinary student who is drawn to their boarding school’s forbidden east wing, where something stalks the shadowy corridors. Perfect for fans of J.A. White and Mary Downing Hahn!
When Guinevere "Nev" Tallow receives an acceptance letter to the exclusive Deephaven Academy, they know it’s the fresh start that they’ve been looking for.
But things are strange from the moment they arrive—the house itself seems to breathe, students whisper secrets in dark corridors, and the entire east wing of the academy is locked away for reasons no one wants to explain. And Nev knows something ragged stalks the shadowy corridors, something that sobs quietly and scratches at the walls, waiting to be released.
With the help of another first-year student, Nev takes it upon themselves to unravel the mysteries hidden in Deephaven's halls. But will they risk their fresh start to bring the academy’s secret to light?

Happiness is a new book
Tumblr media
I treated myself to some wonderful new books and they will go to my Halloween TBR for this Autumn season. (I also got some manga as well =D)
I have been dying to read Scrimshaw. I loved Deephaven so much and when I heard the author was a making book 2, I was super excited.
I have been following the FNAF fandom for a while now and when they were making a choose your own adventure style book I had to get.
Super happy that it's about to be the best time of the year :D

Review:
When Guinevere “Nev” Tallow receives an acceptance to the exlusive Deephaven Academy, they know this is the chance at a new beginning... but strange things await them at this academy and a dark secret is waiting to be solved! Nev has lived a difficult life, trying to just get by but the last straw is when their father is arrested again and Nev is determined to start over for themself and finally make a new home. Nev has spent most of their time making toys and so when they get a full scholarship with room and board at an exlusive academy, they take it. At Deephaven Academy strangeness is afoot, from students with secrets, a mysterious creature lurking in the east wing, and magic.... Nev has their work cut out for them to try and figure out what is going on and if they can save their new friends. This was such a fun and spooky read, I had a blast with it and definitely think its got great spooky vibes!
*Thanks Netgalley and HarperCollins Children's Books, Quill Tree Books for sending me an arc in exchange for an honest review*
