I realized some #tabletopgames didn’t make it onto my #pubmeeple ranking list so I tried this again. No surprises here now, except for the order on a few of the titles. Happy to play any of these #boardgames.

What's your favorite board game?
My favorite board game? Well, Charlie has been insisting the hotel residents do a "family game night". Whatever that means. I attend...sometimes.
She has this newer game called Coup which I am quite good at if I say so myself. I am rather good at bluffing in general. And Deception: Murder in Hong Kong is always a delight to play! It can get quite gruesome at times. I do despise the majority of the popular games for their simplicity. And newer games, oddly enough, are more entertaining!
I am, however, more of a card person rather than a board game person. I do rather love Poker, of course, and Hearts. Both of which can be brutal games. Haha! I can tolerate Spades and I do like it apart from the teamwork aspect. Unfortunately Angel Dust is the only person who really likes Spades. Husk...well, cards is a sore topic for him. Haha!

"Each author captures Christie—and Marple—perfectly, while also displaying just a bit of her own unique touch. . . . This new and entertaining collection by some of our favorite writers will hook a new group of readers to the formidable Miss Marple." — Rhys Bowen, Washington Post
“Marple is the best loved [detective]. Also the most influential. . . . It is Miss Marple who introduced the revolutionary notion that people are essentially the same wherever one goes.” — Los Angeles Times
Agatha Christie’s legendary sleuth, Jane Marple, returns to solve twelve baffling cases in this brand-new collection, penned by a host of acclaimed authors skilled in the fine art of mystery and murder
One doesn't stop at one murder...
Jane Marple is an elderly lady from St Mary Mead who possesses an uncanny knack for solving even the most perplexing puzzles. Now, for the first time in 45 years, Agatha Christie’s beloved character returns to the page for a globe-trotting tour of crime and detection.
Join Marple as she travels through her sleepy English village and around the world. In St Mary Mead, a Christmas dinner is interrupted by unexpected guests; the Broadway stage in New York City is set for a dangerous improvisation; bad omens surround an untimely death aboard a cruise ship to Hong Kong; and a bestselling writer on holiday in Italy is caught in a nefarious plot. These and other crimes committed in the name of love, jealousy, blackmail, and revenge are ones that only the indomitable Jane Marple can solve.
Bringing a fresh twist to the hallmarks of a classic Agatha Christie mystery, these twelve esteemed writers have captured the sharp wit, unique voice, and droll ingenuity of the deceptively demure detective. A triumphant celebration of Christie’s legacy and essential reading for crime lovers, Marple is a timely reminder why Jane Marple remains one of the most famous detectives of all time.

I’m mentally sending you many desserts, and hope the rest of this week is much better! For an OC question; what kind of games do you think your OCs would like best?
ty uriel ;-; im having a friend come up this week so i think it will be a lot better, i joked today "since i only have work 2 days theres gonna be a weeks worth of bullshit condensed" lol
im choosing to interpret this as card/board games because i know fuck all about video games
theres a really sweet game called calico thats a puzzle strategy about making a quilt for kitties to snuggle on, and that is 100% Howl's shit. just a cozy game with enough challenge to keep them engaged, where there is a winner but its very low stakes (theyre just happy they made a cat-approved quilt).
its a ttrpg but i think they'd love Shadow of the Demon Lord. ive only played a oneshot for it but the dark fantasy, weird worldbuilding and horror aspects would be very appealing to them
Fae just likes games as an excuse to hang out, so your classics like uno and cards against humanity is what they'd bring. they're a bit of a sore loser and live for the petty revenge opportunities in uno
the Nydallas obviously love sava, because any excuse to flex those manipulation skills with the added layer of flirting is their bread and butter. i also think theyd have a lot of fun with deception: murder in hong kong. its hidden roles, mystery, murder, balls to the wall theorizing, heated accusations, basically everything drow love (also using this as an excuse to post the polygon video for it, because it's my favorite overboard episode to date)
Chena'stra tried to play cards or sava with Ang'dra, and it just ended up in another terrible fight. either because Ang'dra refuses to entertain her or actually beat Chen and she's mad about it. i'll also say House Frival game nights are a lot quieter post-disowning Chen
what do Venny and Lath like to play. how terrible is the shit talking. are either of them sore losers
#in-fox#ty for the ask and kind wishes i hope ur week is good too!#c: iphis nydalla#c: minisstra eradia nydalla#c: howl willowstep#c: faeryl drathir'knif#c: chena'stra frival

Deception: Murder in Hong Kong, CS-Files,

Week one Extra Development
Blender Development:
This week on two occasions I joined a call with my partner who is trying to learn how to use blender for his uni project. His experience prior to this was 2 hours of the blender donut tutorial but he was largely trying to learn by doing. I spent about 4 hours on call with him helping troubleshooting, teaching short cuts and the details of blender, before he was happy to continue on his own.
In the end he was happy with his model and wanted to export it to procreate for texturing, but it was not working, so I received the files and being trying to troubleshoot. This meant learning myself how to export to unity, cleaning up the model, UV unwraping it, fixing its normals, and generally optomising the whole model to work in procreate, as well as working in 3D printing software.
Teaching blender to another person isnt something that I have had to do before but it immediatley helped test my own knowledge, and the problem solving of trying to detect and the fix errors made in the model originally, while visually leaving it unchanged was a greate exercise for myself.
Board game study:
On Wednesday I joined a board game club hosted in the studio by GDA Y3 Liz. With seven of us in total playing 3 different board games. starting with Deception: Murder in Hong Kong, a social deduction murder mystery game, where a story teller player reveals clues so that the detectives can figure out who at the table is the murderer. After that we played Coup, a quick card game, where players will use their ability to bluff and call out others bluff to be the last player standing. And finally we played cockroach poker, a deviously simple bluffing based card game, that has a rules page so short its no bigger than a playing card, and the whole game is one 64 card deck.
From playing each of these games what really impressed me was in the levels of depth you could acheive from the ingenius interplay of such simple mechanics, especially in cockroach poker.

hi there gt here don't mind if I peek in.....
as someone that's played blood on the clocktower a lot, particularly with people that claim they don't roleplay well/much, it's definitely a roleplaying game. the fact that botc only really functions as anything else than a logic puzzle cube if you go into your mind palace and start absorbing some kind of a persona makes that distinction really clear to me. if you don't do any element of rping, botc isn't any more fun than playing guess who or reading a script for botc and puzzling it out by yourself. you have to take on some element of being "not yourself" and playing in the fictional space the game lays out, otherwise all the fun elements of people dying and being ghosts and being the secret mayor or etc don't really mean anything
I really agree tho that almost any board game can feel like a tabletop rpg that just has more of a physical component aspect to it. like healed says, I think if u play almost /any/ board game this becomes true to an extent, ESPECIALLY social deduction games. if u like social deduction board games that really clearly encourage roleplaying you could play spyfall or deception: murder in Hong Kong. both are really fun imo and simpler to set up (mostly see: requires fewer players) and offer a lot of crutches for players who want an excuse to get out of their comfort zone of "not rping" in a board game
non social deduction games that I really like that feel easy to treat like a tabletop rp tend to be some of the most mechanically "board gamey" or obtuse games that I play, like twilight imperium and the dune board game. both are high strategy long campaign war games, which feels Not Roleplayish, but the fact that you all play highly different factions with their own characterized unique mechanics and background lore immediately makes it fun to get into the space of playing a "character" and making choices w your 4-8 friends around the table as if you're all at each other's throats or making backhanded alliances or tricky trades and such. In both games I've played sessions where half the table picked "bad" factions or made weird strategy choices that guarantee they won't win, all because they're trying something funny and in character. for example my favorite twilight imperium faction is defined pretty much only by having one of the Biggest Scariest ship in the game when the game starts, and being able to float around threatening people with it until someone eventually comes and kicks your ass. It's really not a good strategy but it's fucking funny and it usually makes me have a lot of fun rping
Other less heavy games that feel ttrpg-y (if you just want recs or examples) Root, where each player has asymmetric abilities and you're all little woodland creatures having a war in the woods, or Escape the Dark Castle, a card based gothic horror game that replicates the feeling of a dungeon crawl really well and thus is easy to rp around, or even tableau builders like Arc Nova, a zoo tycoon board.game where it's fairly isolated gameplay but you get to make a little zoo and pick little zoo guys to go into it and characterize all the stuff you put in the zoo. I've had emotional finally-getting-the-penguin-enclosure based narratives in Arc Nova that felt more impactful to me than many d&d sessions
my wife also loves calling the magic the gathering format of edh/commander a tabletop rpg bc the way we play is highly Roleplayish. Everyone builds decks around a highly characterized card and when playing, that tends to come out expressively enough in everyone's play that it's hard Not to say shit like "ouughhuhgh don't attack me man I'm the kraken guy. I'll come out of the ocean and get ya" and then make my grown adult friends play along with kraken guy until they get to go home
also if u want a board game you can also play solo or with a group that feels literally like an rpg, legacy for dragonholt is an rpg with literally a big story book of rp prompts and a narrative campaign you choose your way through while playing on a very simple board to keep track of stats. The story and characters is really charming and definitely will appeal to you if you want to feel like ur playing a dmless rpg. The Choose Your Own Adventure official board games also scratch this itch and are surprisingly fun if you embrace their absurd premises.
Ooooh also FOG OF LOVE! IS REALLY RPG-LIKE it's a game about LOVE where u play two characters in a romance and there's a million narrative card decks and scenarios that gameify going through the ups and downs of a turbulent love story. It has you make little characters with likes and dislikes and Secrets you reveal and such and it's very good if you want to literally rp out a ship with someone.
tldr sorry for stepping in but I love board games I love rping I've been rping in board games for years and if your botc group doesn't agree then they are lame also if you want more game recs I have more
do you consider social deduction games (like blood on the clocktower) to be a type of tabletop roleplaying game? if so do you know games that are tabletop roleplaying games but that aren't like RPGs?
#tbh look up any board games u like the theming or mechanical sound of and with a fun play group theyll feel tabletopy#board games
