D&D ask meme: 2. Your favorite character that someone else has played

This is unfortunately kinda like asking a mother which of her children is her favorite. Even if she has one, like, she can’t say that. I have an ongoing d&d game right now and I genuinely like all of those characters and am not gonna play favorites.

However! Previous games with people who don’t follow my tumblr are fair game, yeah? So I can say very positive things about my best friend Jon’s characters generally- he always has a strong concept, a backstory with just enough plot hooks and intrigue to be interesting and allow the DM to really build on, and roleplays his interesting characters consistently, cleverly, and compellingly. And that’s really all you can ask as a DM. Any game I’ve run in the past with Jon in it, his character was almost certainly the highlight for me as a DM. 

And so to all my current players- notice how that kinda sounds like all of you?

You’re a helluva good group.

I cannot thank Alex enough for another incredible piece of art, this time for my own character in the Storm’s King Thunder game I play in that my fiancee runs for our local gang of geeks that have been roleplaying together for years now, after meeting through Magic: The Gathering at FNM, beginning with Dark Heresy (I shall share Alex’s awesome artworks from that game another time), a tiny bit of Pathfinder, before settling on D&D 5e.

Anahata is such a lovely a devout young lady to the point of naivety and serious anxiety and awkwardness when dealing with the rich and powerful, although she has discovered that she has a penchant for detective work and doing everything she can to keep her allies in ‘The Lawful Good(?)’ on track to avert the disaster  her Deva, Galladia, warned her that this ragtag group are the only ones able to save the world from.

My older sister, Camla, who I idolised as a child, died of an influenza not long after I was first cloistered at the temple. My parents and instructors kept this from me for a long time, but as soon as I heard the news I vowed to become a Cleric, stepping away from the path of the Paladin, despite the protestations of my teachers. I retain some of the martial training and use it to defend those with might that I cannot heal with my blessings.

Personality: I can find common ground between the fiercest enemies, empathizing with them and always working toward peace.

Ideal: Aspiration: I seek to prove myself worthy of my God's favor by matching my actions against his teachings, with the dream of one day joining the ranks of the Watchers of the Fallen.

Flaw: My piety sometimes lead me to blindly trust those that profess faith in my God

I was praying in the temple and given my first vision from Galladia, my angelic guide, of a great strife in a land far away, known as the Savage Frontier, that could bring devastation to us all. In the chaos and darkness, there was a small glimmer of light surrounding a party of adventurers and Galladia impressed upon me that I must aid these heroes and ensure their victory. I took mace and shield from the temple’s armoury and left at that moment, without a chance to say goodbye.

A while ago you posted some amazing Order of the Fly art and, in true nurgulite fashion, it laid an egg of interest in my brain which has hatched into a rot-grub of obsession which burrows and squirms into all my thoughts. I’m about to buy Plague Garden and hope to see more of your Duchy soon. If I ever get a moment away from work I will have to draw a few of my own. :)

Please do! The more interest we show as fans, the more likely they’ll be able to have the spotlight in their own stories.

Hi KJ! Hope you're well. Today's question is: If you had to choose an army (40k, fantasy, whatever) or a character class in a game (WoW etc) that was the COMPLETE OPPOSITE of your usual choice, what would you pick?

Shed-head! Hm... I suppose that the opposite of what I’d normally choose would be loyalist ‘Marines in general, honestly. I like Tzeentch-y, fast/light armored dudes. I main healers in WoW, so I suppose tanking would be the opposite. I’d probably want to be a Paladin or Warrior. The idea of tanking is terrifying though, I have no idea how people do it.

Game Two

That was a whiffer of a first movement phase for the Imperials! Anticipated more forward momentum but the pincers bit into thin air.

A few shots were exchanged and a few hits were taken until they scattered again.

Great maneuvering of the Orks saw them lined up great for takedowns. But the aiming was a bit off and the Furies could walk away relatively unscathed

Until next turn! Everything turned upside down.

Bommers, Jets and Furies dropped left and right!

The last Dakka Jet took off to safe his husk, bringing the game to an 84/50 disengagement win for the ‘Umies!

Tbh if you don’t model an Ultramarines character trampling a Word Bearer (and vice versa), you’re doin’ something wrong. It’s one of those core rivalries hatreds that define the heresy. Like Space Wolves and Thousand Sons. Or Ultramarines and Night Lords. Or Iron Warriors and Imperial Fists. Or Ultramarines and Alpha Legion. Or Iron Hands and Emperor’s Children. Or Ultramarines and Black Legion. Or-

Anyhow yeah; in my defense if I were to play a CSM army I’d probably play the Word Bearers. If you’re gonna be the bad guys, why not be the worst guys? Plus they’ve got a paint scheme that lends itself well to extra ornamentation, what with the blackened glyphs carved into their armor.

That or Emperor’s Children. So i can roll up in a purple party-bus rhino and play a literally face-melting guitar solo while snorting a rail of warp-cocaine.

So I'm going to be runny a Rage of Demons/ Out of Abyss campaign with another small group with my fiancée and the glorious @deathshead13. Having an absolute blast reading through the campaign, it's a real strange one, but a wonderful and weird exploration of a truly fantastic and wicked Alice in Wonderland. I'm so hype! Really looking forward to starting with the Rage of Demons first quests and then weaving the rest through the campaign. Cannot wait! I thoroughly recommend listening to the glorious The Rancor's Brothel podcast if you are you are planning to or are running it as they are thoroughly entertaining and involved. Their Curse of Strahd was spectacular and their various Cthulhu games are great. Time to start practicing the voices for the various Underdark denizens! Good hunting and happy gaming :)

Ohhh my goodness. I’m actually most excited about this blacksmith’s forge coming up. I also get to paint some TGG minis soon, and a giant half-naked faerie lady, which I think will be fun. I mostly just want to get this octopus done, but every time I think it’s there, I completely change everything.
