Webtoon recomendation!

Do you like comics? Do you want something to read? Well, that's great coz I wanna ramble about my favorites so be welcome! Take a seat.

Note - CWs because in the series descriptions there might be sensitive topics: domestic abuse mention, human trafficking mention, suicide mention, noncon mention, torture mention, death mention.

Total: 13 webtoons featured, of fantasy, thriller, romance, sci-fi, mistery, the superhero genre, paranormal mistery and adventure. Some are very light, others are very whumpy.

Castle Swimmer (ongoing)

Genre: Fantasy

What is it about: In an underwater world, different merpeople live with their kind in castles. In an isolated castle, the shark people suffer from a curse, and their only hope is their prince Siren, as there is a prophecy stating that he will kill "the Beacon" and free his people. Meanwhile, Kappa, a rogue mer, is a messiah sent by god who was born to fullfull prophecies. He is known as "the Beacon". The duty of his life is to fullfill them, and he never said no to none. One day, the Beacon arrives at the shark castle; the people are cheerful! Their suffering has come to an end! Prince Siren heads to killing the Beacon, but... he isn't like he expected. Can he really kill him? If not, then what should he do? Both of them were born for one reason and one reason only. What if they can't fullfill their duties?

Notes: Romance subplots and lots (I mean lots) of queer characters! General trigger warnings for blood and some violence in certain chapters. All of the chapters have cws. Sometimes there is a panick attack.

2. SHELTER (ongoing)

Genre: Fantasy, thriller, science fiction

What is it about: Ruka lives with his mother and his uncle/stepfather in a small town. From the outside, they seem like a neat happy family. But no one seems to notice what happends inside closed doors. Ruka's uncle is a violent and unforgiving person, and whenever he takes a misstep, there is a punishment. He dropped out of school and works at his uncle's diner, trying his best to protect his mother from the person she married with. One day, his only and best friend Pom gives him a gift: she left the town for college and they can only talk to each other by phone. The gift is a virtual reality gear--she says "try it out! I'm sure you will find out something cool there." Ruka tries the VR out and dives into the world of Vahana... he ends up finding out more than he initially thought.

Notes: I absolutely love this series and the art style evolves a lot from the first to most recent chapters. General trigger warnings for despictions of domestic abuse, human trafficking and censored noncon. There may be mentions of suicide as well. Apparently no queer characters at all, uncertain if there is a romantic subplot, but I like to think that no. Oh, and in the first 50 chapters or so I don't think it has many cws. If something specific happens, there may be one (I can't remember) but after that all chapters have a general trigger warning and sometimes a chapter-speficic one.

3. Housekeeper (ongoing)

Genre: Science fiction, adventure (?)

What is it about: In an alternative world where humanity has achieved great technologic advancement still in 1930 or so, the government of all the nations was unified in one and most of human labor was replaced with AI work. Navil is a kid who lives with his grandmother, and one day, he finds a broken maid robot and asks her to fix it. He names the AI as Hasty and they grow to become dear friends. One day, however, humanity faces a threat: A misterious disease has spread around all the world and is turning humans into zombies! When her master Navil is turned into one, and there seems to be no hope, what will Hasty do?

Notes: Don't stop reading when the boy gets turned. Do not. General trigger warnings for mild fantastical violence. I'm not very far in the series so I'm not sure but it doesn't seem to have openly queer characters. No romantic subplot. No cws as far as I've got. Oh, and there is some blood too, so take care.

4. Lovebot (ongoing)

Genre: Sci-fi

What is it about: In the far future, technology has advanced and humans have travelled deep into space. A certain renowned company has trademarked one of technology's most impressive advances: Artificial partners! Lovebots are advertised as "better than real" and the perfect companions for you. They are customizable to be whatever you want them to be, from appearence down to personality traits. Xada, also known as Jackalope, is a hacker who used to be hired to customize people's lovebots for a lower price, but for the new version released it is actually illegal to do so. Even though, a customer calls Xada to customize his brand-new lovebot (he wants to desactivate the sutdown response for when the bot is in too much pain?? wtf) and he accepts the job. When he arrives at the customer's place, though, the lovebot seems unsettlingly... human. When he comes back home from the modifications, he doesn't know yet, but Xada unlocked a secret that might evolve to a whole series of conflicts... with he and the lovebot right in the center of it.

Notes: Lots of openly queer characters (you can notice in the literal 1st pannel), HUGE romantic subplot, I think I shouldn't even call it a subplot coz it's a big part of the story. General trigger warnings for domestic abuse mentions, violence, toxic relationships, panic attacks, blood and...oh yeah, both noncon/dubcon mentions and consensual (just implied, thankfully for me) sex.

5. The Ember Knight (ongoing)

Ehhh, disclaimer: This seems to be set in the same world of another webtoon by the same author, a few years later. It seems like the previous webtoon is called Gilgamesh but I haven't checked that out. It seems like some of the characters appear in both webtoons and some of the lore is only shown there. I haven't read it yet but it's not preventing me form enjoying the story, so I'd say it is optional.

Genre: Fantasy

What is it about: The Knights are the country's greatest military force. They have powers beyond human comrehension and protect the people. Nagyuun's brother, Najin was training to become one of them; he was talented, strong and kind, like any Knight was supposed to be. Nagyuun couldn't be more different than him; even though they were twins, while Najin was extremely talented and considered a prodigium with 100% of chance of becoming a Knight aprentice anytime soon, Nagyuun wasn't much more than a normal guy. He loved his brother, and even though he had hard times, they were as close as they could be. That is, until one day, assassins invaded their home. Najin was murdered, and Nagyuun, just a normal person, couldn't do anything against the Knight-level threat. His brother was dead. Nagyuun could not let them go without revenge, but they were already far away--vanished just as quickly as they had arrived. He then borrowed Najin's identity. They were identical, so the only thing that set them apart, was their names. Nagyuun's plan was to live as his brother and pretend he was the one who died so he could attract the assassins. Your job isn't done just yet. But Najin was an extremely talented person. How could Nagyuun ever pretend to be like him? How could he create the illusion that he was at the level of a Knight aprentice? He didn't knew, but in what he lacks in skill, he compensates in rage. He would not let his brother's murderers get away from that.

Notes: I absolutely LOVE this series, the designs and the colors (the colors) are amazing and I love all the characters and the plot and everything--Nagyuun is such an amazing character, and sometimes the lack of skill he has becomes lowkey comic. General trigger warnings are violence, blood, character deaths (you saw what I said about Najin) and bullying. (And also pretty poor coping mechanisms if you want my opinion.) No romance as far as it is, no openly queer characters either.

6. Señorita Cometa (ongoing)

Genre: Mistery

What is it about: Alex is a young woman who lives in Yoalco, a city with high crime rates with two opposing mafias. She works at the Yoalco police department but she's also a vigilante--Her best friend Lola went missing and now she is going to do whatever it takes--under whatever title she gets undo--to find out the truth about what happened to her--and probably dismantle a whole trafficking web in Yoalco.

Notes: This webtoon is phenomenal, there is music in some episodes and the lighting and the drama--I love this one sm. It's more of an epic sometimes lighthearted mistery than an edgy story. General trigger warnings for some mild violence, blood, human trafficking and mentions of noncon. A few romantic subplots, no openly queer characters for now.

7. Realta (on hiatus)

Genre: Fantasy

What is it about: Many ages ago, the Signs decided to share their magic with humans--by giving them their blessing according to who they were born under, humans aqcuired fantastical powers. Fourteen special ones were chosen by the signs: The Realta. Each sign has one (aside from gemini and pisces, which have two) and the Realta would always reborn under the same sign. Ellowen, our protagonist, is a virgo who lives in a little cottage with their grandfather since they were a little kid. The last time they saw their parents was so many years ago... because around the cottage there is a magical barrier that is meant to keep any dangers away. One day, Ellowen's grandfather dies, and the barrier that kept them safe and isolated from the world for so many years vanishes. When they take the courage to leave their home, they decide to reunite with their parents after so long--but the problem is that Ellowen has no idea of where the virgo village is. They soon find a capricorn girl that seems like she can help them, but what will have changed them while Ellowen didn't see what was happening to the world?

Notes: This story makes me SO HAPPY because there are not only openly queer characters, but it's normal courtesy to introduce yourself with your pronouns, and you will see lots of characters doing this. There is romantic subplot and a lot of characters I really like, and it is on hiatus for a while. I can't wait for when it gets back >//////////< The plot is not centered around any of the characters queerness though, and everything about Realta, from the worldbuilding down to the artstyle is simply beautiful. And it has such magical vibes to it as well. General trigger warnings are character deaths and some violence.

8. PARA-Professional (ongoing)

Genre: Paranormal mistery

What is it about: Two friends decide to explore what it is said to be an old haunted house. One of them pays no mind to the rumors at all, but the other knows something is going on... They both find out more than what they thought they would in there. And it doesn't stop there.

Notes: Some romantic subplot, openly queer characters, and honestly, everything about this series is so charming. The author also has another series (also ongoing but shorter and with fewer updates I think) that you may want to check out: Cryptozoology. General trigger warnings for... Blood and death mentions. It came back from hiatus a while ago.

9. Castoff (on hiatus)

Genre: Fantasy adventure

What is it about: Vector means no harm to no one, but it's not like people believe it. He's not quite human and seems to have some elfic heritage... but aside from that, anyone who sees him treats him like a monster. He lives with his adoptive mother, a librarian, hidden away from everyone for everybody's sake. That is, until a weird customer arrives at the library, and when, despiste his best efforts, she sees him, she doesn't seem afraid at all. And from there some chaotic things take place... what is she up to?

Notes: Amazing. Awesome. And it has its own site with more frequent updates, even thought it is still on webtoon. I don't think there is any romance or openly queer characters but for me some of them are pretty much queer-coded-ish. There is a lot of characters and the magic system and worldbuilding is awesome too. General trigger warnings for mild violence, a little of blood, death mentions and mentioned accidental domestic violence.

10. Cinderella Boy (ongoing)

Genre: Fantasy

What is it about: It's summer, and even though Chase doesn't have any part-time job like his relatives advise him to, he's buisier with other things: A while ago, he found a magic key that allows him to travel into books, and for every tale he finishes, he gains some drops of this misterious substance called narratonin. As soon as he finds out what it serves for, he decided: This summer, he'll gather narratonin enough to make a wish. Some people don't want him to have it easy, though.

Notes: No romance, no queer, it's pretty lighthearted and fun. There are a lot of misteries still unsolved and I'm honestly eager to find out.

11. Uriah (ongoing)

Genre: Thriller, mistery

What is it about: One day, a boy wakes up in the back of a car, bruised, restrained, and with absolutely no idea of where he is, or what is worse, who he is.

Notes: HEAVY trigger warnings for this one, and for most of the chapters this series has no cws. Blood, violence, extreme violence and lots of blood, domestic abuse mentions, sexual abuse mentions, human trafficking, character deaths, death mention and torture, honestly, like someone got heavyhanded on the whump sauce for this one. I actually love this one, but it can get pretty dark. I love most of the characters and it seems like there is some romantic subplot going on. Some of the chararcters are openly queer, including the villains. You're going to be very confused for a lot of the first season if you read it, and as the story goes on, you'll have to decide who is the good guy and the bad guy on your llist again.

Oh, and that person with the motorcycle is a girl (she/her), just so you know. Don't let the comments section confuse you.

12. Our Walk Home (on hiatus)

Genre: Romance

What is it about: In a city, two great and renowned schools have a sworn enemyship. None of their students are friends with each other, and the rivalry is so strong that it sometimes gets unhealthy. Akihiko is a top student in one of those: He has a big social circle, amazing looks, is athletic and smart. Everybody on his school loves him. He values his position, and he got a lot of effort in to get there. Even if... even if he has to pretend to be someone he's not, be extra friendly with everyone even when he's emotionally drained and give away some of his mental health. On the other school, they say there is a worthy rival for Akihiko. Harumi Kurose, who comes from the overseas. They say he's a genious with an ice heart, who looks down on anyone who isn't worth his time. Akihiko is told he will have to face Harumi one day, and despiste not showing to anyone, he is completely terrified of the guy. One day, they meet. It didn't go as Akihiko expected, though.

Notes: I love the art. Like, really really love. The art in the other ones is cool as heck but this one is really special because it is. So so so so gorgeous. And light. And refreshing. Love everything about it. CWs for this series: Death mention, toxic relationships, and, uh, burnout I guess. It's very gay. Not many openly queer characters, tho.

And last, but definitely not least:

13. Jupiter-Men (on hiatus)

Genre: Superhero

What is it about: In Jupiter City, there is a urban legend of a misterious vigilante called Jupiter Man. In a school in the city, it studies a young boy called Quintin, alongside with his twin sister, Jackie. Quintin is a big fan of Jupiter Man, and, when there is a rumor that he went missing Quintin decided to look for him. Jackie tries to put some sense into her brother's head, but he won't listen to her. Despiste not wanting to, she ends up going with him. But instead of Jupiter Man, they find another thing, and that may be a key to a misterious chain of events that will give them more than what they initially hoped for.

Notes: The art. Style. The designs. Amazing. Okay, so, there is no romantic subplot, no openly queer characters until now, and Jupiter-Menis entering its second season. It was when I was reading this I noticed that I actually love the superhero genre. The characters are amazing and compelling, the lore is very very fun and everything is pretty engaging. Cws include fantastical violence, some blood and death mentions. There are also some references to greek mythology, and, yeah--if I was to describe this in one word, it'd be "fun". It's a great one.

Her Uncle in-law who married the younger daughter was a greedy man who married for the status and reputation.

. Due to her mixed heritage, she has a surprisingly strong immune system and rarely gets sick. She even ate poisonous berries once in an early attempt at suicide but it didn’t work due to her metabolism and strong health.

She was 19 when she met Kaito Kobayashi, a humble carpenter apprentice that helped her when she was abandoned by her Uncle and other relatives, and later married and gave birth to a son named Genji at 21. She loved him because he was honest and made her laugh. He appreciated her as a person despite her heritage and circumstance, and believed in her

. Despite her calm demeanor, she is the type of person that if you get her to a point of anger which takes a lot to do, she is not merciful once you push her to that.

Surprisingly strong despite her look of complete composure, and taught by her grandfather the ways of Kyudo, mastering longbows and short bows since their lineage is of Military archers revered by the line of Emperors. A Great knife thrower as well with some deadly accuracy. Though after her first husband died, she has not shot from a bow since, but the accuracy comes in handy.

. Kyojuro was 11 when he met her, and Senjuro about 4, too young to remember Ruka. She was 26 going on 27, which she came to their household a couple months after the death of her family.

. She took up a job as housekeeper/governess, helping a young Kyojuro take care of Senjuro since their father refused to be present for most of the time. All the other maids were fired/left due to Shinjuro’s behavior, but she had stayed. Always tried to help Senjuro be close to his mother and father by telling the good things and experiences. Unwittingly Senjuro bonds with her, and while he does miss Ruka, learned a great deal from Hatomi’s patience and sweet nature towards him. He learned to cook from her and the recipes Ruka left behind.

. She does not like the rain. It reminds her of that night she lost her family because it was a storm that day. That and she feels awful during the rain. Her joints tend to ache more and her usually kept hair becomes a frizzled tangled mess.

. Despite giving up her bow the night her family died, every anniversary when she goes to their graves at her old home near the river, she has made it tradition to clean her bows and arrows left in the house. A testament that while will not be used, is to carry on the traditions and teachings left by her grandfather. He always said “This bow is your life, it is to be shown respect and care, a reflection of your inner peace and temperance.”

Story Summary

Orphaned and outcast from her family due to unfortunate circumstance, Hatomi sought out her own happiness and peace in the form of a carpenter named Kaito. In her exile, she found both those things, to trust and to experience love was all she could want . To later be blessed with a son brought her joy at finally having a family to call her own…until one night her happiness was taken by a demon, killing her husband and child and left her alone once more. Overcome with grief and finding herself the survivor that regretted being so, she almost resigns herself to the curse of loneliness that never seems to leave her were it not for her coming across yet a new family. One that was broken, a father too lost in his own grief to find himself, and leaving two children to try and pick up the pieces. With a new purpose and resolve, Hatomi dedicates herself to helping two sons that continued to live in honor of their mother. Being no stranger to loss, she refused to let her despair dictate her life despite the struggles. Never would she let anyone be alone in bitterness, never to shy away from the pain as it made her stronger for those that could not, and never would she let what happened to her make her fear loving again.

BACKSTORY. Losing their family to a demon in their childhood, Shiori spent some time in the entertainment district, having been left there by their uncle – much to the dismay of their cousin, Rai – as he claimed he had too many mouths to feed already. Taken in by a house, they kept away from the customers generally, unless they were bringing one up to see someone else, though they were taught some of the traditional skills that the girls were taught as well. However, they were not in the house for too long before the owner of a Wisteria House of the Demon Slayer corp bought out their debt.

They were far happier living within the Wisteria House and helping demon slayers, even more so once they were taken in by Rengoku Ruka, wife of the Flame Pillar, Rengoku Shinjurou. They worked for the Rengoku family as a medical aid to Ruka, but in truth they were treated so close to family that one who was unfamiliar with the family would hardly think otherwise. It was only after Ruka’s death that Shiori went on to see training in the art of slaying demons from the former Wind Hashira, Takemoto Noriko.

Joining the demon slayer ranks, they stayed until an unfortunate turn in a mission against a lower moon resulted in a severe internal injury that led to their retirement as a slayer. However, they did not leave the corps in any official manner as they instead went back to their former Wisteria House to take time in determining what it was they wished to do. Dedicating themself to the growth and cultivation of the wisteria blossoms surrounding the shrine, as well as forming charms and perfumes made of the wisteria for those with marechi blood to ward demons, they continued to practice their breathing forms, but now with metal fans and hairpins sharp as knives with wisteria poison compartments inside.

They work often with the Butterfly mansion in sharing information about wisteria poisons and extracts, and as such were gifted with a pair of fans with razor sharp retractable 'teeth' made of nichirin steel that the Demon Slayers use, though crafted with their use of poison over sheer strength in mind. The breathing style they use now is Petal Breathing, a form that focuses on dexterity and poison, similar to Insect Breathing, but as they use fans and hairpins as their weapons, that is where the main difference lies

TEAM KWTZ CHAPTER 12 - THE DAY AFTER TOMORROW

The end.

A few days after the Grimm attack, Silbern slowly began to recover. This was not the first time the town had had to pick itself up and dust itself off. Past experiences had taught them the benefit of preparation and additional security measures, to be ready should anything like the Glatisant happen again. Kieran doubted that any of them suspected such an attack ever would happen again, but their vigilance and experiences dealing with smaller Grimm incursions leading up to the night had readied them for what was to come.

Although the recovery process had begun, it would take a while until Silbern was back to how it was. The worst damage had been done to the buildings in the town square, which Kieran later learnt from his sister had been badly damaged by the Strix that had attacked her. One of the outer walls and several residential buildings had been damaged as well, most of which had been caused by the hybrid Grimm. As those structures were essential to safety and shelter, the mayor had instructed those to be repaired first, before they turned their attention to the rest of the town.

One small relief to Kieran was that the number of deaths had remained low following the attack. After a week had passed, the number of deaths stayed at five, four people on the night - including Victor - and another man passed a day later from the wounds he sustained. As for those who had simply been injured, the number was much higher, and many of those injured were still sequestered inside Silbern's medical centre.

It was the medical centre that Kieran, his teammates, and Ruka, were heading to today, sent to collect his uncle Colin who was finally being released.

Kieran's father was supposed to have been the one collecting his uncle, but had decided to throw a small party in secret for his younger brother, so had managed to rope Ruka into helping instead. KWTZ, on the other hand, had not planned to tag along with Ruka to collect Colin but for some reason, the man had insisted on them coming.

Upon arriving, the five of them waited patiently at the front desk, until a frazzled nurse came to see them. Kieran noted that her uniform seemed to look like an Atlas military uniform.

"Can I help you?" She asked, looking at the group expectantly. Despite her obvious fatigue, her tone was cheerful.

"Yes, we're here to collect my uncle," Kieran explained. The nurse nodded and began to look over some files behind the desk, to which Kieran added, "His name is Colin Peredur."

"Ah, here he is," The nurse said, pulling out a file and opening up the file behind the desk. "I'll go let him know you're here and we can get him discharged."

With a smile, she set off down a corridor, nearly bumping into another doctor who was walking between rooms. They were not kept waiting long until the doctor reappeared, with Colin close behind. Although he was walking on his own, he had an obvious limp, thanks to the cast he had on his left foot.

Colin seemed surprised to see Ruka standing with KWTZ. "What are you doing here?" He would ask her once he and the nurse had reached the front desk.

"Nice to see you too," Ruka quipped sarcastically. She chuckled before answering him properly. "I'm here covering for your brother. He wanted to be here but got called to the Fleece. Some sort of emergency I believe."

It was a rehearsed answer but hearing it out loud, Kieran had to admit it wasn't the most convincing lie. Colin certainly didn't seem entirely convinced based on the expression on his face but he was kind enough not to pry any further. The nurse got through his paperwork efficiently and had just finished signing him out when he asked if he could borrow the nurse for a second.

She raised a brow before shrugging and following him back down the corridor from which he had come.

"Do you know what that's about?" Ruka asked.

Wyn shrugged. "Your guess is as good as ours."

They would get their answer soon enough when Colin and the nurse returned, with Colin pushing Meredith in a wheelchair. Kieran had to admit he was surprised to see the Chartreuse woman. After the night of the attack, he had heard little of her condition, though he could at least figure out she had not died as her name had not been added to the list of those who had passed in the days that followed.

When the three of them stopped in front of the group, Kieran could clearly see that Meredith looked exhausted, and understandably so given what had happened to her. Her skin was notably pale, she had prominent dark shadows under her eyes, and her hair framed her face in limp waves. She also had an IV drip in her hand. But despite everything, her green eyes were bright and full of life, and she mustered up a weak smile for KWTZ.

“It is good to see you looking so well,” Lin commented, becoming the first of the team to return the woman’s greeting.

“I have a long way to recover yet, but thank you for your kind words,” Meredith responded with a strained voice.

After a moment passed, Colin spoke up. “She should still be resting but was insistent on speaking with you today when she learnt I was being discharged,” He explained.

Kieran raised a brow and looked back at Meredith, who looked to one side at the increase in attention on her.

“I wanted to apologise to all of you,” Meredith explained, twirling her fingers anxiously in her lap.

“Apologise for what?” Tilia asked.

“For Victor…and for what happened with the Grimm,” Meredith responded, her voice faltering as she spoke.

“Don’t be silly! You don’t have to apologise for that!” Tilia responded bluntly, a sentiment which was clearly shared by the rest of KWTZ by how quickly they nodded their heads in agreement. “You’re not the one who made that Grimm and intended on releasing it on innocent civilians.”

“Whilst that is true, I cannot help but feel as though I had a small part in things that transpired,” Meredith sighed. “If I had not been so blind to the machinations within my own house then perhaps Victor could have been stopped sooner. Perhaps five people would not have died.”

Kieran shifted uncomfortably on the spot. The situation with Victor was a difficult one for him to process still; knowing that Victor, and by extension Sylvester, had caused his mother’s death still weighed heavily on him. Whilst he personally felt no great loss from the passing and the sudden disfavour of their family, he did feel a great deal of empathy for Meredith, who had not known of their schemes and now found herself shouldering the guilt of their actions.

"It will do you no good to carry that guilt with you forever," Kieran said after a long moment. He had emitted a long sigh before speaking, and had clenched his fists, almost as though psyching himself up to talk. "What your father and cousin did was awful, truly awful. But they and they alone are responsible for the pain and losses our town has felt. I am sorry the way people now look at you, as the surviving member of your family, with hate and blame in their eyes. My only hope is that your past actions and how you will carry yourself moving forward will go a long way to prove you are a far better person than they ever were."

He was aware of Meredith watching him intently the entire time he spoke and once he finished, she smiled at him and appeared on the verge of tears.

"Thank you, Kieran. That means a lot."

Kieran gave her a small smile of reassurance. "Think nothing of it, Meredith. Just focus on getting better now, alright?"

Meredith chuckled faintly. "I'll try."

"You better," Colin said. Meredith turned her head to look up at him, and he rested a hand on her shoulder. "You still owe a dance."

After speaking with Meredith, Colin, Ruka, and KWTZ made their way back to the Peredur home. Although they had a party to get back to, they kept a leisurely pace so as not to push Colin too hard with his limp.

"So, Philippa really turned up?" Colin asked Ruka as they walked, referencing his last teammate who had turned up in the days following the Grimm attack.

"Oh yeah she was on her way here from Kryal," Ruka began to explain. "She didn't really know anything about how things had gotten here due to the CCT being down, so you can imagine her surprise when she arrived."

Colin chuckled. "Oh, I can imagine it alright. I bet there were a couple of swear words involved, yes?"

Ruka smirked back at him. "You know us too well, Colin."

"That tends to happen when I get stuck with you lot for ten years," Colin teased, bumping her arm. When they had finished joking with each other, he looked over his shoulder at KWTZ. "Have you all met Philippa yet?"

"Yeah, she nearly put Wyn through a table, it was great!" Tilia guffawed.

If Wyn was hurt by that comment he didn't show it. "I gave her a good run for her money though you have to admit."

Kieran smirked. "Wyn she didn't even use her semblance. I hate to be the bearer of bad news but you had no chance."

A round of laughter erupted from his teammates and uncle and whilst Wyn initially pouted, he too was quick to join in the laughter. When the moment had passed, the group continued on their way until they made it back to the Peredur home.

As per they had hoped, Colin knew little of the little get together which awaited him, and was genuinely taken aback when he discovered so many people waiting inside to welcome him home.

The first to greet him was Daragh, who came away from a group of people he was speaking with to welcome his brother home. He embraced him tenderly before pulling away and holding him at arm's length. "It is good to see you well, brother," Daragh smiled.

"As it is you, Daragh," Colin echoed, returning the smile.

Daragh waved a hand and pulled away. "My injuries were hardly anything of note compared to yours. But I appreciate the sentiment regardless." The Peredur patriarch patted his brother on the shoulder and then made a gesture somewhere behind him. "Come, enjoy your party! There are many who came to see you."

And Kieran's father was not wrong. As Colin went off to meet several of the party guests, Kieran made note of who had come to celebrate. It wasn't as large as the celebration at the Golden Fleece a few days back, but given recent events, it was a surprisingly good turnout. He could see Esmerelda Aveleira enjoying drinks with her father and a few friends in a corner, her mother, Lavendin, was standing not far from the rest of her family involved in a lengthy conversation with Ruka's husband, who hung onto the mayor's every word. Ruka eventually came over to join her husband, taking her son from him, and then taking him with her as she met up with Colin and Philippa.

Philippa made a cooing sound when she saw the young boy, quickly scooping him up in her arms and bouncing him on her hip. From where Kieran was standing he could hear Philippa making some teasing remarks about Colin to the toddler, who seemed more interested in trying to chew one of her plaits rather than listen to her joke. Afterwards, she said a few warm words to Colin in a quieter voice, clearly relieved to see her teammate doing better.

A more surprising guest - or rather guests - were three members of the Rutland family. Cheren's wife, his son, Ascelin, and one of his elder children, a daughter who linked arms with her mother in quiet conversation. Whilst Ascelin was currently speaking with a group of people, it seemed that most people kept away from the Rutlands, either that or they were the ones keeping from the other guests. By now it was well known that Cheren Rutland had been involved with Victor and so it seemed many had taken to avoiding the rest of his family.

Kieran felt a little bad for the pair of them and decided to come over and say something to them.

Pulling away from the rest of his teammates, Kieran stepped toward the two women. "Hello, Amalthea. Cassia." He bowed his head in greeting. "I'm glad you could make it."

Cassia Rutland returned the greeting with a gentle smile, and after a moment so did Amalthea. "I'm not sure everyone else appreciates us being here," Amalthea commented, pursing her lips afterwards. Well, that confirmed Kieran's suspicions about the other guests avoiding them.

"Cheren made an honest mistake," Kieran said. "Victor Chartreuse never told him the truth of what his plans were, nor what he was working on the entire time. Truthfully, I don't know Cheren very well, but from little I do know about his character he seems like a good man at heart. I doubt he would have worked for him if he knew the truth."

"My husband was a veteran huntsman of nearly forty years. He should have known better instead of blindly trusting Victor's word," Amalthea said with a heavy sigh. Her expression softened ever so slightly. "He struggled after his accident, you know. He had to be mindful of what jobs he could do and he could no longer keep up with the younger huntsmen and huntresses. Cheren would never have admitted it, he was too prideful in that regard, but he believed he had fallen out of favour with everyone after his accident. Why choose someone like him to do a mission when there was someone more fit and healthy waiting to take over? Whilst I'm not making excuses, I can see why Victor's job offer enticed him so easily."

Kieran gave her a sympathetic look. "Cheren fought well when the Grimm attacked the town. He was willing to pull his weight and help out. If not for him, who knows, maybe more would have been injured or worse."

"It is kind of you to say that, Kieran," Amalthea said. "So many others have looked coldly on us tonight and the days that followed the Grimm attack. There is still a long way to go in order for him to make up for his involvement, but I appreciate that there's someone who recognises and appreciates his contribution on that night."

With a final look between them, Kieran took his leave from Amalthea and her daughter. It hadn’t been necessary for him to go and speak with the two women but he felt good for having said his piece. Whatever complicated feelings he held towards Cheren and his involvement with Victor did not deserve to extend to the rest of the Rutland family.

After mingling with the rest of the party guests for a while, Kieran decided he needed some air. He left Tilia and Wyn regaling a group of people with a story from their time at the academy. Kieran lingered long enough to hear Wyn about to launch into an animated joke, quietly taking his leave through a back door. He stepped out onto a smooth patio, with a garden table and chairs in one corner and a covered up barbeque in the other. There were steps that led down to the rest of the garden and Kieran decided to sit down on one of them for now, looking out at the neatly tended garden.

He hadn't been out there long when he heard the back door slide open.

"Kieran?"

"I'm just here, Lin," Kieran said, waving her over without looking back. He heard the click of her heels against the patio surface as she came over to join him.

"Are you alright?" She asked. Kieran didn't miss the concern in her voice.

He looked up and gave her a warm smile. "I'm fine," He assured her.

Lin pulled a face, looking unconvinced. "Are you sure? You stepped out rather suddenly. One minute you were listening to Wyn and Tilia's jokes and then when I next looked you had slipped away."

"I just needed some air," Kieran explained. He reached up and gripped one of Lin's hands, giving it a comforting squeeze. "But I'm fine honestly. Thank you for checking up on me."

Still holding his hand, Lin stepped down and took a seat next him. She was still holding his hand as she leaned into his shoulder.

“It was kind of you to speak with Cheren’s wife and daughter,” She told him.

He smiled softly to himself. “It felt right to say something to them, especially considering how everyone else has started treating them as of late.”

“I think given your involvement with what happened, your words will mean a lot to them.”

Kieran sighed softly. “I hope it does,” He said, before gently resting his head against Lin’s. They sat there quietly for a few moments before he spoke again. “This feels nice.”

Lin let out a contented sigh. “I can think of a few nicer places, but I agree.”

Kieran felt the heat rise in his cheeks before he chuckled at his girlfriend’s words. “At least now that matters here have been resolved, we’ll all be able to get some much needed rest.”

“Mhm, it would be good to have a few days to ourselves at least,” Lin said.

“Only a few?” Kieran pressed, a faint smirk on his lips.

Lin pulled away from him a moment to give him a knowing glance. “Kieran, if the time we’ve spent here has taught me anything, it’s that you Peredurs simply can’t help yourselves when it comes to helping others or getting involved in potentially life-threatening missions.”

Kieran inclined his head to one side. “And does that bother you?” He teased lightly.

“It makes me worry about you a lot more,” Lin answered. She paused briefly to cup his face in her hands, steadily moving it closer to her own. “But I love you all the more for it.”

Lin pulled him closer to her and the two enjoyed a passionate kiss. When they pulled away at last, the two continued to sit, hand in hand, looking out over the garden. Kieran was not long how long they stayed out there for, lost in each other, and lost in the quiet but the two of them eventually found their way back inside. Reunited with their teammates, their friends, and the rest of Kieran’s family the two of them enjoyed the celebrations long into the night. And when the party finally came to a close, KWTZ could look forward to the rest they had had initially come looking for.
