I came across iji the other day, liked the cover and gave it a listen. The slightly warbly voice made me immediately think of a cross between Daniel Johnston and Matthew Sawyer. So I clicked through to the release and was really blown away by who plays on this album.

Zach Burba (the songwriter here) is a longtime musician who has played with Katy Davidson in Dear Nora. Katy returns the favor by playing on "Automatically". But so does Adrienne Lenker (Big Thief), Luke Csehak (The Lentils), Erin Birgy (Mega Bog). And that's just a partial list of the collaborators on "Automatically".

Burba and iji are based in Los Angeles. This is being released by We Be Friends, a label located in Queens, New York.

Dear N,

I wonder if you ever think about me or if you hate me after everything I said. Not that I am embarrassed besides one point. Truthfully I think what I said needed to be said to you. But it's not what I ever wanted to find myself saying. Really I hope that I think about you less and less but so far your still the first thought to my day and my last as I rest my head. How am I supposed to believe that there are other "fish in the sea" when you are who I wanted. No matter how attractive other girls have been....they don't compare. I hope that life brings us together again.

The Lost Days are Tony Molina (Ovens and Tony Molina) and Sarah Rose Janko (Dawn Riding). "Lost Demos" is their first release - its being handled by The Long Road Society (everything - artist and label - is based in Oakland, California).

It sounds like what you might think a Tony Molina side project sounds like: Byrds/Simon & Garfunkel might be the most obvious. I'd also mention Tony Jay. And the description on this release also mentions "classic Guided By Voices", Dear Nora and Bill Fox (I guess I need to listen to this).

The Lost Days not only have this cassette but a brand new LP available on Speakeasy Studios SF.
