Something I’ve appreciated about Elden Ring is it’s use of less prominently heard UK regional accents in its English dub.
Ranni and Iji sounding Welsh makes me headcanon that the Carian accent in general is Welsh. I’d love to hear Radahn’s singing voice.
Godrick and Godfrey sound very West Country and it makes me hope that Godwyn sounded like a farmer.
And of course, the icing on the cake, Brummy Dung Eater which is complete perfection. Rodericka also has a midlands accent so I wonder if they come from similar locations originally?

thinking about how Ranni adopts the alias Renna as a tribute to the woman who taught her sorcery, and how one of the ‘Three Sisters’ towers is named Renna’s Rise. thinking about how Seluvis’s Rise definitely used to have a different name before Seluvis entered Ranni’s service—was it Rennala’s tower before that? was it Rellana’s? I imagine two of the Three Sisters used to be Rellana’s Rise and Rennala’s Rise, and then Ranni gave one to Seluvis and renamed one after her mentor, and in fact I think it’s safe to say that Ranni did rename one of them thanks to Iji’s line, “Along the dark path of the Empyrean, from Renna’s Rise, as [Ranni] calls it.” but then who was the third sister? were the Sisters built before and named for a generation from even further back than Ranni’s mom and aunt?
granted, it’s possible that the towers are a newer addition to the manor grounds: the towers are in much better shape than the ruins around them, and the sending gate on Renna’s Rise was presumably placed there or at least enchanted by Ranni herself, or so I’d assume. Ranni could have had the Three Sisters built while she was still a living human, with her aunt off defending Messmer and her mother running the academy and nobody around to question or veto her construction plans, but Iji implying that Renna’s Rise was renamed does lead me to believe that the towers have been there a long time, and maybe only fell into disrepair because Ranni only cared about maintaining (or only had the resources to maintain) the Sisters. nobody is keeping the manor itself running and maintained, after all, unless you count Pidia, I guess.
still, it’s intriguing to wonder who the Three Sisters might have been originally constructed for or named after or both. I don’t think there’s any evidence that Renna, the ‘snowy crone’ Ranni learned magic from, is a third sibling of Rennala and Rellana’s, especially not if that rise was renamed. I’ve always imaging Rennala taking Ranni to meet Renna and learn magic from her as sort of a reference to the concept of the triple goddess or the Maiden, Mother, and Crone—a daughter, a mother, and a grandmother—which has always lead me to assume Renna was an elderly relative from an older generation the Carian line, and not a sibling, and the towers aren’t called The Two Sisters & Their Mom. plus, again, if Renna were one of the three sisters for whom the architectural Three Sisters were named, her Rise wouldn’t have needed to be renamed at all. so who the heck lived in Renna and Seluvis’ rises beforehand? who lived in Ranni’s? I’ve never given it much thought before but I just caught that line from Iji after replaying this quest for probably the twentieth time and now I feel like I know so much less about the Carians than I thought I did.

Saw a post on reddit that reminded me of this- why are dead Black Knife Assassins found near Blaidd and Iji at the end of Ranni's questline?
The most likely in my opinion is that Ranni employed them (interestingly, the three wolves outside her rise are gone when Blaidd turns). But that seems uncharacteristically cold, even for Ranni- especially in ordering Iji's death. She never struck me as the kind to execute her agents for a mistake
Maybe it's also possible that they were sent by the Greater Will? Their allegiances after the Night of Black Knives are unclear, since one can be found right outside the Queen's bedchamber in Leyndell, so that also seems plausible to me. What do you think?
hello!! I’m so glad you asked me this because this is a subject I’ve thought about a lot. This is gonna be a long answer so buckle up:
I think that while the Black Knife Assassins did work with Ranni during the Night of the Black Knives, something happened to break this alliance and they are now hostile to her. The main piece of info that tells me this is that Alecto, the Black Knife ringleader, is imprisoned in an evergaol at the Moonlight Alter in Liurnia. This area is blocked off until the final stage of Ranni’s questline, where we find Ranni there beneath the Cathedral of Manus Celes. Alecto is described to have been imprisoned “for the act of slaying a demigod.” It’s weird that Alecto is imprisoned here in Liurnia, at one of Ranni’s bases of operation no less, when the reason for her imprisonment is something she did FOR RANNI. I think what must have happened is that Ranni and her confidants betrayed Alecto and the assassins to the Golden Order to pin the crime solely on the assassins and deflect blame from themselves (to this day, it’s a secret that Ranni orchestrated the Night of the Black Knives), and then they “took care of” her on behalf of the authorities. Alecto also carries the spirit ashes of her daughter Tiche, who was killed during their retreat from the capital. I wonder if she might partially blame Ranni for her death?
Another point of evidence is that the dead assassins found around Blaidd are specifically in front of Ranni’s rise. When we find Blaidd in the evergaol and free him, he says that he’s going to see Ranni now to check if she’s safe. The next time we see him, he’s surrounded by the dead assassins in front of where Ranni resides. To me this implies that the assassins came to Ranni’s rise to assassinate RANNI, expecting that she’d be there, and Blaidd intercepted them when he came to check on her. Blaidd can also be heard reassuring himself that he could never betray Ranni; that he’s part of her very being, and he says “she needs me.” Which tells me that he came upon a situation where he saw that Ranni was in danger, not that assassins followed and attacked him, and killing these assassins helps him prove to himself that he can still protect Ranni despite Iji’s warning.
Though Ranni is shown to be overall pretty ruthless, I don’t think she would order Iji and Blaidd’s deaths. She asks us to tell them that she loves them! They grew up together; they’re her family. The situation feels more to me like an inevitable tragedy: Ranni pushes forward with her plans despite knowing that she’s endangering Iji and Blaidd’s lives by doing so.
tl;dr, I think that Ranni betrayed the Black Knife Assassins up to the authorities, and in revenge they planned a coordinated attack against Ranni and her team, which Blaidd intercepted.

Since you did wholesome haligtree twins headcanons can we see wholesome carian siblings headcanons?
Sure thing!
~
Ranni:
Extremely stubborn from her first day in the world, Ranni always did whatever she wanted.
She spent most of her time with Blaidd and Iji, running around and causing chaos.
Despite her unruly nature, she was actually really kind and caring to her brothers when they were babies.
Rykard was always the easiest to cradle to sleep, and despite the occasional pull, she actually liked how he grabbed her hair in his sleep.
Radahn was a pain to even lift in her arms but it melted her heart hearing him laugh with joy every time she gave him a piggyback ride.
Although when they grew up enough to be able to take the wild games she was used to with Blaidd and Iji, the royal boys were treated like piñatas.
She was/ is very much attached to Rennala.
She actually didn't really care for sorceries as a teen, but stuck with her studies in order to not make Rennala sad, and grew to love the studies in time.
Her antagonistic, feral parts of her personality come from Marika and she never missed a chance to engage in verbal fights with the goddess.
Blaidd:
He was more puppy-like than human-like as a baby.
His excitement was always evident when he saw any of his family and would always run to hug them.
The blatant shows of affection died down as he entered his teens, but his adoration for his family never dimmed.
He mostly played with Ranni and Iji, being the middle ground between Ranni's feral nature and Iji's overly protective one.
He slept with Ranni and Rennala whenever he or Ranni got nightmares as kids.
Rennala once gave him a pillow and he still has the remains of the cover hidden in one of his armour pockets.
As his Radahn grew up, Blaidd was his first sparring partner and even taught him the first basics in greatsword techniques.
When not with Ranni or Radahn, he spent time with Rykard, learning to read and analyze stories and histories.
Rykard:
A very quiet child, Rykard spent most of his time alone, in libraries and workshops.
He never really showed affection to his family, but they all had an understanding that his reserved nature was not from lack of love.
He actually spent most of his time with Blaidd, enjoying the silence as they both spent time reading together.
Both of them had an unique understanding of each other and Blaidd was always the first one to learn about Rykard's amorous adventures.
While not as much, he also spent a lot of time with Iji, talking about metallurgy and various smithing techniques.
As he grew up, he began undertaking longer and longer journeys, and always brought something back for the family.
He never actually offered them their gifts, he simply placed them to each person's favourite spot in the Academy or Manor.
Despite his reserved nature, he is actually extremely charming and well-spoken.
He really likes otters. (yes there are now otters in the Lands Between, don't question it)
He and Iji worked together to make Leonard's saddles.
Radahn:
While not as energetic as Ranni, he was a close second in destruction of property in the Manor.
Energetic and loud, he was a pain for Rykard and a joy for Ranni, as she now had another brother willing to break (literally and figuratively) things around the Manor and Academy.
Out of all the kids, he kept sleeping in his mothers' room the most.
As a kid, he was really self conscious about his rapidly growing size and found a lot of solace and comradery with Iji. Whom, while older, was going through a similar growth spurt.
After he got more comfortable with his size, he began being proud of all the options it unlocked.
He rarely dared to do it, but a few times Ranni was being the usual pain to the people of the Manor, he did put her in air jail (<- tiktok link, I'm sorry).
The first time he saw a horse, he refused to leave the area unless he was promised that he would one day get his own horse.
From then on and until he left the Manor, his room was decorated with ungodly amounts of equine related materials.
Iji:
The quietest and most rule abiding of the five, Iji is also the oldest of them. He was already a good 6 years older than Ranni before he was brought into the family along with Blaidd.
For many years, he remained aware of the fact that he was the only one that wasn't regal or special in the family. In fact, he was supposed to be their servant. It took lots of time and love from the whole family to make him realise that he was as much family as the rest of them.
The first time he cried was when Rennala referred to him as "my child".
Most of his time was spent trying to either convince Ranni that she shouldn't do the newest reckless plan of hers, and she should, in fact, study for her future accession to queendom.
Despite his now regal uprising and lack of responsibilities, he did love smithing and physical work, and spent his learning time doing that.
After the Ranni-Blaidd duo, his closest friend was Radahn.
Apart from working with Rykard in making Leonard's saddles, Iji showed his affection by making various useful items for the family.
He made Blaidd's sword, Radahn's armour and Rykard's crown, among other things.
~
If anyone tries to argue that Blaidd and Iji are not Carian siblings, I'm not hearing a word. You're just plain wrong, shoo.
Also, some of them leaped over the wholesome and were just plain headcanons but I'm keeping them in. ¯\_(ツ)_/¯
Thaaaank you for the ask! I love the Carian kiddos!
(btw, self-promo -> here's a fic with the Ranni-Blaidd-Iji trio being kids :P)

7/28/24.
I came across iji the other day, liked the cover and gave it a listen. The slightly warbly voice made me immediately think of a cross between Daniel Johnston and Matthew Sawyer. So I clicked through to the release and was really blown away by who plays on this album.
Zach Burba (the songwriter here) is a longtime musician who has played with Katy Davidson in Dear Nora. Katy returns the favor by playing on "Automatically". But so does Adrienne Lenker (Big Thief), Luke Csehak (The Lentils), Erin Birgy (Mega Bog). And that's just a partial list of the collaborators on "Automatically".
Burba and iji are based in Los Angeles. This is being released by We Be Friends, a label located in Queens, New York.

something about Iji and Jerren… the servants of two siblings pulled in different directions… the way they wistfully think of each other and the old days… Iji helping make weapons for Jerren and Radahn’s soldiers… the implication from Jerren's dialogue that they reunited after Radahn was defeated… Jerren upon being killed saying “You...are a menace... Iji...beware…”. i am looking directly at it...
