Despite B&C playing out completely differently from the book, I have to applaud Phia for her performance as Helaena.

Imagine the horror of two strange men barging into your chamber with your two sleeping children only feet away, a knife to your neck. You can’t scream, you can’t get too loud for fear of waking them and all three of you getting hurt.

You don’t know why you’re there but they mention coin. Maybe the necklace? They’re undeterred. The children are still sleeping only feet away. They’re leaving with someone’s head tonight, and they want “a son.”

If you lie? You’ll all die. You have to pick what happens and either way, it’s going to be horrible. She dissociates. She has to. There’s no other way to cope with this scenario. She gives up Jaehaerys to save herself and Jaehaera.

She goes into autopilot and grabs Jaehaera and flees. Anywhere. Somewhere. She flees to her mother’s chambers, and walks in on…that. There’s too much going on. She’s traumatized. She’s shutting down.
