Rewatched 1x02 Wendigo
It's an easy-to-follow adventure, and as the second episode, has a feeling of confirming story style and motifs. They repeat the use of fake IDs. There's a cheeky wink to the audience about how implausible they are when they're imposters along with reassurance that as the heroes they have plot armor. The ep revisits blood dripping mysteriously from above, leading to a jumpscare horror. And revisits Dean ending up a total, muddy mess. There's detective-like interviewing and exposition, reminiscent of The X-Files, as well as the tell-tale woodsy wetness of filming in Vancouver, and a ritual explanation as to why they're taking a break from hunting for Dad.
A week has passed, and they found no clues in Jessica's death. Sam is understandably having nightmares and is withdrawn and somber and on edge. I do love that on rewatch the audience knows that Sam is hiding a secret and a guilty conscience. Dean sends many concerned glances Sam's way. The dynamic I see is Dean trying to direct their energies towards something more positive, which is solving Haley's case; the job John sent them to. I think it's a consistent strategy for Dean throughout the series to seek a hunting "win" as an emotional reset. And by the end of the hunt, we see it does revitalize Sam.
Dean says the iconic "saving people, hunting things, the family business" line. It's framed as "saving people, hunting things" = "the family business," and that works for the Kripke years. Now, having been through the whole series, I hear it as three separate things. The business (or workings) of family really is its own theme as the show goes on, and sometimes it doesn't have to do with the other two.
DEAN: Do you want to tell me what's going on in that freaky head of yours? SAM: Dean... DEAN: No, you're not fine. you're like a powder keg, man. It's not like you. I'm supposed to be the belligerent one, remember?
I do find it strange to hear Dean say, "I'm supposed to be the belligerent one," except maybe it's said jokingly to get a reaction from Sam. So far Dean's been quite stoic when challenged, and likely to respond to hostility with smirky humor. Sam's more direct and quicker to be confrontational. Nice bit of foreshadowing with reference to Sam as "freaky" and about to blow up with anger, since the appearance of YED will expand on that later.
A few things that I especially enjoyed in this ep -- Dean's charm and chutzpah. The way he improvises on the fly. He's flirty but in a surprisingly sweet way. Sam's earnestness, knowledge, and fearlessness. His exhilaration when they finish the hunt. I'm also amused that starting here, bears come up as a civilian explanation for monster stuff.
It's hard not to take it for granted now, their chemistry as brothers. They especially feel like they're in their own world separate from the normal one, and we're privileged to peek into their experience. We're also privileged to enjoy their beautiful faces in cinematic closeups.
There's smarmy low-brow humor that seems characteristic of Kripke. I feel like he enjoys making the audience squirm a bit over it, just as he does with the horror gore. This isn't a show for nice bougie people, he seems to want to say, we like 'em rough around the edges. It's a bit of a caricature, but it's different, and feels harmless.
Harmless, like Dean's flirting. We can see through the artifice; we're in on the joke. Part of that joke is a show that's sometimes rough around the edges. Like the ep's final scenes making a big deal of Sam taking the keys to drive the Impala, followed by a long shot of them in Baby, with Sam on the passenger side. Oops! 😂
#spn rewatch musing aloud#spn#ep 1.02#spn 1.02#spn meta#danistuff#long post#when i first watched i do remember thinking at this point the show is pretty silly but easy to watch#I especially liked the cinematography. and jensen's face ofc#whenever a show like this references indigenous culture i automatically start worrying tho#spn rewatch

Wendigo
(Masterlist/ Next Chapter)
November 10, 2005
Sam jerks awake from the passenger seat of the Impala, Dean driving while a song from the Foreigner’s plays from the radio.
“You okay?” Dean asks voice clear with concern
Sam glances at him and then away, “Yeah, I'm fine.”
“Another nightmare?” Dean asks him, but Sam doesn't answer, only clearing his throat
“You wanna drive for a while?” Dean asks instead.
I look up from my book, with a questioning look.
Sam laughs practically reading my mind, “Dean, your whole life you never once asked me that.”
“Just thought you might want to. Never mind.” Dean brushes off.
“Awwww, Dean, you softie” I say smiling widely with a laugh.
He catches my eyes in the rear view mirror giving me a gruff “No”, but the glint in my eye doesn't go away nor does the smile on my face.
He can deny it all he wants but I know he’s a softie, it’s one of the many many things I love about him…that made me fall for him
Sam laughs, piggy backing off of my teasing, “Look, man, you're worried about me. I get it, and thank you, but I'm perfectly okay.”
“Mm-hm” Dean hums, and I have to agree with him here. There’s no way Sam’s okay, his girlfriend just died in front of him in the same way his mom was killed, I don’t think anyone would be okay after that.
Sam rolls his eyes, grabbing a map from the glove department, “All right, where are we?”
“We are just outside of Grand Junction.” Dean responds.
Sam folds the map, “You know what? Maybe we shouldn't have left Stanford so soon.”
“Sam, we dug around there for a week. We came up with nothing. If you wanna find the thing that killed Jessica—“ Dean reasons getting cut off by Sam
“We gotta find Dad first.”
“Dad disappearing—and this thing showing up again after twenty years, it's no coincidence. Dad will have answers. He'll know what to do.” Dean remarked.
“It's weird, man.These coordinates he left us. This Blackwater Ridge.” Sam points out.
“Hm? What about it?” I ask
“There's nothing there. It's just woods. Why is he sending us to the middle of nowhere?” Sam answers.
“Lots of things could be and or happen in the woods.” I explain just as we drive past a National Forest sign reading "Welcome to LOST CREEK COLORADO National Forest".
The Impala is parked next to a sign that says "RANGER STATION Lost Creek Trail, Lost Creek National Forest". Meanwhile we’re inside, Dean looking at the decorations while I look at the trinkets around.
Sam’s being the helpful one here looking at a 3D map of the forest, “It's cut off by these canyons here, rough terrain, dense forest, abandoned silver and gold mines all over the place.” He informs.
“Dude, check out the size of this freaking bear.” Dean calls out looking at a framed photo of a man standing behind a much larger bear.
“And a dozen or more grizzlies in the area. It's no nature hike, that's for sure.” Sam adds on looking at the photo.
“This will certainly be interesting then” I murmur, picking up a little wooden bear from a shelf holding it up for the boys to see.
“You guys aren't planning on going out near Blackwater Ridge by any chance?” A Ranger says from behind the boys, both of them whipping around startled.
I put the little bear down quickly, locking my hands behind my back with a tight smile on my face.
“Oh, no, sir, we're environmental study majors from UC Boulder, just working on a paper.” Sam covers laughing a little.
Dean grins raising a fist, “Recycle, man.”
I have to bite on the inside of my cheek to not laugh, so as to not break our cover.
“Bull” the Ranger calls, and suddenly I don’t feel like laughing.
“You're friends with that Haley girl, right?” he adds
“Yes. Yes, we are, Ranger…Wilkinson.” Dean goes along with it.
“Well I will tell you exactly what we told her. Her brother filled out a backcountry permit saying he wouldn't be back from Blackwater until the twenty-fourth, so it's not exactly a missing persons now, is it?” Ranger Wilkinson stated.
Dean shakes his head as the Ranger goes on,
“You tell that girl to quit worrying, I'm sure her brother's just fine.”
“We will. Well that Haley girl's quite a pistol, huh?” Dean replied.
“That is putting it mildly.”
“Actually you know what would help is if I could show her a copy of that backcountry permit. You know, so she could see her brother's return date.” Dean adds, clever guy.
We leave the station, Dean holding the paper he asked for laughing
“What, are you cruising for a hookup or something?” Sam asks him.
“Ew, please don’t answer that.” I groan, trying to ignore the pang that rings through my heart at the mere suggestion.
“What do you mean?” Dean asks, looking between me and Sam.
“The coordinates point to Blackwater Ridge, so what are we waiting for? Let's just go find Dad. I mean, why even talk to this girl?” Sam explains, rounding the car to the passenger side.
“I don't know, maybe we should know what we're walking into before we actually walk into it?” Dean reasons.
There’s a pause where no one says anything nor do we move to get into the car.
“What?” Sam asks
“Since when are you all shoot first, ask questions later, anyway?” Dean asks back in return.
“Since now.” He answers, opening the car door and entering.
“Really?” Dean looks from me to the car.
I took a step forward giving Dean’s upper arm a reassuring squeeze. It was meant to be helpful at best but squeezing his arm made me feel the hard muscle underneath his jacket and my head went blank for just one second, my hand lingering.
My face flushed as I gave him a quick smile, entering the car myself.
So much for being inconspicuous.
Dean didn’t move from outside the car for a moment longer, staring where I was standing previously, before throwing open the driver’s side door.
We stand outside the Collins house, the door opening by who I assume to be Haley Collins.
“You must be Haley Collins. I'm Dean, this is Sam, and that’s Y/N, we're, ah, we're rangers with the Park Service. Ranger Wilkinson sent us over. He wanted us to ask a few questions about your brother Tommy.” Dean introduces.
Haley hesitates, “Lemme see some ID.”
Clever girl, I have to admit.
Dean pulls out a fake ID holding it up against the screen. Haley looks at it, then at Dean, who smiles.
She takes the lie, opening the door for us, “Come on in.”
“Thanks.” Dean says simply.
“That yours?” Haley asks Dean, referring to the Impala out front.
“Yeah” He answers.
“Nice car” Shs compliments.
Their brief conversation ends as she leads us into the kitchen, some younger guy sitting at the table on a laptop.
In the corner of my eye I see Dean mouthing something to Sam who rolls his eyes back, but I couldn’t tell what it was about
“So if Tommy's not due back for a while, how do you know something's wrong?” Sam starts off.
Haley places a bowl on the table answering, “He checks in every day by cell. He emails, photos, stupid little videos—we haven't heard anything in over three days now.”
“Well, maybe he can't get cell reception.” Sam offers but that theory gets shut down quickly by Haley as she responds, “He's got a satellite phone, too.”
“Could it be he's just having fun and forgot to check in?” Dean reasons.
The boy on the laptop answered this time, “He wouldn't do that.”
“Our parents are gone. It's just my two brothers and me. We all keep pretty close tabs on each other.” Haley explains.
“Can I see the pictures he sent you?” Sam asks her as she places food down on the table.
“Yeah.” She answers pulling the pictures up quickly,
“That's Tommy” she points.
She clicks two more times showing another picture and then a video, she presses play.
“Hey Haley, day six, we're still out near Blackwater Ridge. We're fine, keeping safe, so don't worry, okay? Talk to you tomorrow.”
“We will find your brother.” I tell her with a reassuring smile as I continue, “We’ll be heading to Blackwater Ridge in the morning.”
“Then maybe I'll see you there. Look, I can't sit around here anymore. So I hired a guy. I'm heading out in the morning, and I'm gonna find Tommy myself.” Haley claims voice and face full of determination.
“I think I know how you feel,” Dean pipes in.
“Hey, do you mind forwarding these to me?” Sam asks, cutting into the slightly heartfelt moment.
“Sure.”
The bar where we sat was a little loud, the sound of pool ringing in the background.
Sam sits across from Dean and I, me sitting on the inside of the booth; a habit we’d picked up when we were younger.
“So, Blackwater Ridge doesn't get a lot of traffic. Local campers, mostly. But still, this past April, two hikers went missing out there. They were never found.” Sam informs us opening John's journal
“Anything before that?” I ask him, leaning forward a bit more.
Sam pulls out newspaper articles sliding them between me and Dean.
“Yeah, in 1982, eight different people all vanished in the same year. Authorities said it was a grizzly attack.” Sam speaks as we read the article titled
‘The Lost Creek Gazette.’
GRIZZLY BEAR ATTACKS!
UP TO EIGHT HIKERS VANISH IN LOST CREEK AREA
HIKERS DISAPPEARANCE BAFFLE AUTHORITIES'
Families continue search and rescue efforts in spite of disappointing [...]
“And again in 1959 and again before that in 1936.” Sam adds, his laptop now pulled out.
“I know bears can be dangerous and all but do people really believe a bear is responsible for eight plus, people’s disappearance. There’s no way a bear would be so pattern like.” I say baffled.
“Yeah well people believe what they want to when nothing else makes sense” Sam answers opening his laptop, continuing with his information
“Every twenty-three years, just like clockwork. Okay. Watch this. Here's a clincher. I downloaded that guy Tommy's video to the laptop. Check this out.” He turns his computer towards Dean and I, going through three frames at a time. A shadow crosses the screen.
I squint at the shadow as Dean says, “Do it again.”
He adds, “That's three frames. That's a fraction of a second. Whatever that thing is, it can move.”
“Might as well be the reverse flash” I joke
Sam breathes a short laugh, understanding my reference, as he closes his laptop.
Dean looks between the both of us, “Nerds.”
I laugh nudging Dean with my body, “Oh you know you love us” I tease.
“Yeah yeah” he answers playfully, shoving me lightly.
Dean then hits Sam causing him to look up,“Anyway I told you something weird was going on.”
“Yeah, but I got one more thing” Sam adds, bringing back the serious energy. “In 'fifty-nine one camper survived this supposed grizzly attack. Just a kid. Barely crawled out of the woods alive.”
“Is there a name?”
Mr.Shaw, the only survivor of these attacks, leads us inside his house with a cigarette in his mouth as he talks to us “Look, ranger, I don't know why you're asking me about this. It's public record. I was a kid. My parents got mauled by a—“
Sam interrupts, “Grizzly? That's what attacked them?”
Mr. Shaw takes a puff of his cigarette, takes it out, and nods.
“The other people that went missing that year, those bear attacks too?” Dean adds, a pause hits the room before he continues, “What about all the people that went missing this year? Same thing?”
Another pause, he adds, “If we knew what we were dealing with, we might be able to stop it.”
“I seriously doubt that. Anyways, I don't see what difference it would make.” Mr.Shaw sits down, “You wouldn't believe me. Nobody ever did.”
“Mr. Shaw trust me when I say that we’ve seen things, crazy things, there’s nothing you could tell us that we wouldn’t believe” I speak honestly.
He doesn’t answer for a beat, grumbling underneath his breath before finally responding, “Nothing. It moved too fast to see. It hid too well. I heard it, though. A roar. Like...no man or animal I ever heard.”
“It came at night?” Sam asks.
He nods.
Sam asks another question, “Got inside your tent?”
“It got inside our cabin. I was sleeping in front of the fireplace when it came in. It didn't smash a window or break the door. It unlocked it. Do you know of a bear that could do something like that? I didn't even wake up till I heard my parents screaming.” Mr.Shaw clarifies.
“It killed them?” Sam questions.
“Dragged them off into the night.” Mr.Shaw shakes his head adding, “Why it left me alive...been asking myself that ever since.”
Another pause rings through the room before he lifts a hand to his collar, “Did leave me this, though.”
He opens his collar revealing three long scars, claw marks.
“There's something evil in those woods. It was some sort of a demon.”
LATER
We walk the length of the motel corridor, discussing our new found information.
“Spirits and demons don't have to unlock doors. If they want inside, they just go through the walls.” Dean says.
“So it's probably something else, something corporeal.” Sam offers
“Corporeal? Excuse me, professor.” Dean mocks,
“Seriously, that's some big word use” I add on laughing.
“Shut up. So what do you think?” Sam ignores our teasing, well Deans teasing. I wasn't really joking, this time.
“The claws, the speed that it moves...could be a skinwalker, maybe a black dog. Whatever we're talking about, we're talking about a creature, and it's corporeal. Which means we can kill it.” Dean answers using Sam’s big word.
We exited the motel entering its parking lot, heading to the Impala.
Dean opens the truck and then the weapons box, propping it up with a shotgun, as he always does, before putting guns into a duffel bag.
“We cannot let that Haley girl go out there.” Sam reasons leaning in.
“Oh yeah? What are we gonna tell her? That she can't go into the woods because of a big scary monster?” Dean answers, and I have to agree.
“Yeah.” Sam replies.
“Her brother's missing, Sam. She's not gonna just sit this out. Now we go with her, we protect her, and we keep our eyes peeled for our fuzzy predator friend.” Dean lists out.
“I gotta agree with Dean, there’s no way we’d be able to convince Haley anyways so there’s no point in trying.” I pipe in.
Dean picks up the duffel, throwing me a smile. Most likely because I agreed with him this time.
“And finding Dad's not enough? No we gotta babysit too?” Sam argues slamming the weapons box shut, then the trunk.
Dean stares at Sam.
“What?” Sam asks.
“Nothing.” He answers, throwing the duffel bag at Sam turning to walk away.
Sam stares at me and I shrug not knowing what that was about with Dean either.
The next day
The Impala pulls up. Haley, Ben (her other brother), and some other guy in shorts stare at us as we get out of the car.
I handed Sam the duffle bag that was riding with me in the back seat. Securing my brown messenger bag across my chest, carrying some more witchy belongings that might be of aid including my spell book.
“You guys got room for three more? Dean calls out.
“Wait, you want to come with us?” Haley questions.
“Who are these guys?” Mystery man in shorts asks.
“Apparently this is all the park service could muster up for the search and rescue.” Haley comments, eyeing us up.
Sam heads past us all, clearly not wanting to be here any longer then we have to.
“You're rangers?” Shorts man asks.
“That's right.” Dean confirms.
And I can already tell that we’re going to be bumping heads with this shorts wearing guy.
“And you're hiking out in biker boots and jeans?” Haley picks out.
Dean looks down at himself causing me to look down at myself feeling a little conscious now that Haley pointed our outfits out. But hey I’m prepared for the cold wearing a long sleeve shirt, a black sweatshirt, my fleece corduroy jacket that I always wear, and…jeans (to me this seems very logical).
“Well, sweetheart, I don't do shorts.” Dean replies simply heading past Haley.
“Wait, I'm sorry, why would we wear shorts? It’s already cold out and as it gets darker that’s only going to worsen plus wearing shorts leaves you more vulnerable to whatever is out there.” I point behind,me towards the woods, adding, “And I’m just gonna assume here that you short wearing man are supposed to be this, uh, hunter? Haley mentioned yesterday.”
I hear Dean huff a laugh a couple steps in front of us.
Short wearing man didn’t take too kindly to my questioning, “What, you think this is funny? It's dangerous back country out there. Her brother might be hurt. And it’s Roy.”
Sam turns back as Dean calls out behind him, “Believe me, I know how dangerous it can be. We just wanna help them find their brother, that's all.”
Dean passes Sam, and I begin walking after them.
The group hikes through the forest, Roy leading us followed by Dean, Haley, Ben, me, and then Sam holding up the rear.
“Roy, you said you did a little hunting.” Dean says, making conversation.
“Yeah, more than a little.” Roy answers, sounding quite proud.
“Uh-huh. What kind of furry critters do you hunt?” Dean keeps the convo going.
“Mostly buck, sometimes bear.”
Poor bears.
Dean passes Roy taking the lead, “Tell me, uh, Bambi or Yogi ever hunt you back?”
I laugh maybe a little too hard, I bite my bottom lip remembering the serious circumstance in which we’re here.
Roy grabs Dean, “Whatcha doing, Roy?” he asks.
Roy grabs a stick poking something behind Dean.
A loud snap rings through the quiet forest, a bear trap, Dean was one step away from walking into a bear trap.
“You should watch where you're stepping. Ranger.” Roy drops the stick, retaking the lead.
Roy drops the stick and retakes the lead as we continue hiking.
“It’s a bear trap.” Dean points out.
I catch up to him, giving him a hit on the arm looking at him with a face full of worry. Has he been in more dangerous situations than a bear trap? Yes. But I can’t help but worry, even over the stupid things.
His face softens and he gives me a smile.
Haley caught up to us immediately calling out, “You didn't pack any provisions. You guys are carrying a duffel bag. You're not rangers.”
She grabs Dean's arm, “So who the hell are you?”
Ben passes us by, Sam and I look at Dean. He gives us a look that tells us to go, that he has it covered and we do.
LATER
Roy’s leading the way still, this time the following order is Sam, Ben, me, Haley and Dean.
“This is it. Blackwater Ridge.” Roy announces
Sam passed him as he asked, “What coordinates are we at?”
Roy pulls out a GPS, answering, “Thirty-five and minus one-eleven.”
Dean goes up to Sam, catching my wrist as he goes by pulling me after him.
“You hear that?” Dean asks. We listen. Its dead quiet.
“Yeah. Not even crickets.” Sam confirms.
“I'm gonna go take a look around.” Roy announces
“You really shouldn’t go off by yourself” I warn.
“That’s sweet. Don’t worry about me” He waves his gun pushing past us to retake the lead.
Stubborn shorts man.
Dean turns back to Ben and Haley as they catch up, “All right, everybody stays together. Let's go.”
Sam, Dean, Ben, Haley and I are looking around near a particularly large rock before we hear Roy yelling for Haley.
She runs over to his voice, the rest of us following closely.
“Oh my God.” The tents are torn open and bloody, all the supplies being scattered.
“Looks like a grizzly.” Roy announces.
We all sort of break off, not far from each other, looking around for any clues or anything of the sort.
Haley begins yelling for Tommy, practically throwing her backpack down as she goes through the campsite. Sam moves to catch up to her, I don’t hear the conversation as I focus on the tracks I found. But whatever he said got her to stop yelling
I crouch to see the tracks better, getting Dean's attention as he crouches next to me before calling out for Sam. He comes over, joining our crouching party.
“The bodies were dragged from the campsite. But here” I point, “the tracks just vanish.”
“I’ll tell you what, that’s no skinwalker or black dog” Dean adds standing up, heading back to the campsite, Sam and I following.
Haley’s picked up a cell phone that I assume is Tommy’s from the blood on it. She’s hunched over on the ground crying.
Dean crouches next to her, “Hey, he could still be alive.” he says reassuringly.
“Help! Help” a sudden voice yells out. Almost in sync, our heads snap towards the direction of the voice.
Roy leads the way everyone running after him
“Help! Somebody!” the voice yells out again.
But when we reached where it was coming from there was no one around.
“It seemed like it was coming from around here, didn’t it?” Haley asks and I nod.
“Everybody back to camp” Sam orders, we obey as we run back.
All of the supplies are missing, and suddenly I'm grateful for carrying my bag with me even if it only slightly got in the way of my running.
“Our packs!” Haley yells, pointing out the obvious.
“So much for my GPS and my satellite phone.” Roy mutters.
“What the hell is going on?” Haley commands.
“It's smart. It wants to cut us off so we can't call for help.” Sam informs.
“You mean someone, some nutjob out there just stole all our gear.” Roy corrects.
Sam goes over to Dean and I as Roy goes on this ‘nutjob’ theory, “I need to speak with you, both. In private.”
We follow him a little bit away from the group, “Let me see Dad's journal.”
Dean hands it over, Sam opens it and flips through until he finds a particular page.
“All right, check that out.” Sam turns the book so we can see it better pointing to a First Nations–style drawing of a figure, more specifically a Wendigo.
“Oh come on, wendigos are in the Minnesota woods, or northern Michigan. I've never even heard of one this far west.” Dean rationalizes.
“It does make sense though. I mean the claws and especially the way it can mimic a human voice” I explained. Getting eager head nods from Sam, “Exactly” he adds.
“Great. Then this is useless” Dean sighs,taking out his pistol. Being the only way to kill a Wendigo is silver through the heart or fire.
Sam gives back the journal heading past us back to camp before stopping, “We gotta get these people to safety.”
Back at the campsite, Sam addresses the group, “All right, listen up, it's time to go. Things have gotten...more complicated.”
“What? Haley asks.
“Kid, don't worry. Whatever's out there, I think I can handle it.” Roy buds in and all I can think about is how stubborn this man is.
“It's not me I'm worried about. If you shoot this thing, you're just gonna make it mad. We have to leave. Now.” Sam ordered.
“One, you're talking nonsense. Two, you're in no position to give anybody orders.” Roy lists out.
“Relax” Dean cuts in.
“We never should have let you come out here in the first place, all right? I'm trying to protect you.” Sam says.
Roy steps up to Sam getting in his face, “You protect me? I was hunting these woods when your mommy was still kissing you good night.”
It’s then I decide I'm not going to get in the middle of this argument, seeing as this will definitely turn into a ‘who’s more macho’ sort of deal.
“Yeah? It's a damn near perfect hunter. It's smarter than you, and it's gonna hunt you down and eat you alive unless we get your stupid sorry ass out of here.” Sam challenges.
Roy laughs, “You know you're crazy, right?”
“Yeah? You ever hunt a wen—“ Dean cuts Sam off, pushing him.
“Chill out.” Dean orders.
“Stop. Stop it. Everybody just stop. Look. Tommy might still be alive. And I'm not leaving here without him.” Haley informs, and as much as it’s a stupid stubborn choice it is her brother.
There's a long pause before Dean speaks up, “It's getting late. This thing is a good hunter in the day, but an unbelievable hunter at night. We'll never beat it, not in the dark. We need to settle in and protect ourselves.”
“How?”
It’s pitch dark out now, our only source of light being the campfire that was built.
Deans drawing a Anasazi symbol, for protection, around the campsite as the rest of us are kind of just sitting around the fire.
“One more time, that’s—“ Haley asks poking at the fire
“An anasazi symbol, it’s for our protection. The wendigo can’t cross over them” I explain for at least the fifth time.
Roy laughs, holding a gun over his shoulder.
I give him a sharp gaze as Dean says, “Nobody likes a skeptic, Roy.”
Dean finishes the symbol sitting next to Sam and I, Sam being in the middle.
“You wanna tell me what's going on in that freaky head of yours?” Dean asks him
“Dean—“
But Dean cuts him off, “No, you're not fine. You're like a powder keg, man, it's not like you. I'm supposed to be the belligerent one, remember?”
Feeling as this is going to turn personal quickly, more of a family/brotherly moment that wouldn’t include me, I get up giving them a nod and a look that lets them know I'm giving them privacy. I move to sit near Haley, instead.
A few minutes have gone before suddenly someone screams and it isn’t anyone in our group, “Help me! Please!”
It’s almost most definitely the wendigo.
I see Dean stand, readying his gun as another “Help!” rings through the normally quiet woods.
Sam pulled out a flashlight, throwing one to me before flashing it around in an attempt to see if the wendigo is close by, I follow suit doing the same.
“He's trying to draw us out. Just stay cool, stay put.” Dean commands.
“Inside the magic circle?” Roy mocks.
“Jesus Christ Roy, yes!” I exclaimed, Roy getting on my nerves.
“Help! Help me” The wendigo yells, mimicking a human voice, growling following.
Roy points his gun at the sound, “Okay, that's no grizzly.”
Haley turns, talking to her younger brother, “It's okay. You'll be alright, I promise.”
Something rushes past, Haley shrieks.
“It’s here.” Sam announces.
Roy shoots the rustling, twice.
“I hit it” he yells running off to see what exactly he hit.
“Roy! No!” I yell after him
Dean turns to Haley and Ben, commanding them, “Don’t move.”
Haley grabs a stick lighting it on fire as a weapon. Dean gives me and Sam a nod, queuing us to run after Roy.
“It's over here! It's in the tree!” Roy announces.
Sam and I use our flashlights, looking to see where Roy went. But we wind up with nothing.
It’s day now, hours since Roy went missing.
Now we sit trying to explain the whole supernatural stuff we encounter.
Sam’s sitting against a tree stump holding his dads journal whilst me, Dean, Haley, and Ben are among the tents
“I don't...I mean, these types of things, they aren't supposed to be real.” Haley states.
“I wish I could tell you different.” Dean replies, half shrugging.
“You can say that again” I mumble.
“How do we know it's not out there watching us?” Haley asks
“We don't. But we're safe for now.” Dean answers.
“How do you know about this stuff?” She asks
There’s a pause where you can see the gears turning in Dean's head as he considers an answer, “Kind of runs in the family.”
“Literally” I mermer underneath my breath, we hadn’t told them I was a Witch, which was probably for the better considering we’re being hunted by a Wendigo and they had just learned that the things in the dark are real.
Sam comes over, “Hey. So we've got half a chance in the daylight. And I for one want to kill this evil son of a bitch.”
Haley stands nodding
“Well, hell, you know I'm in.” Dean answers, “Same here” I add.
Sam opens the journal to the wendigo page, turning the book around for Haley and Ben to see.
“'Wendigo' is a Cree Indian word. It means 'evil that devours'.” Sam informs.
“They're hundreds of years old. Each one was once a man. Sometimes an Indian, or other times a frontiersman or a miner or hunter.” Dean adds to the information.
“How's a man turn into one of those things?” Haley asks.
“Well, it's always the same. During some harsh winter a guy finds himself starving, cut off from supplies or help. Becomes a cannibal to survive, eating other members of his tribe or camp.” Dean answers.
“Like the Donner Party.” Ben offers.
“Nice reference” I compliment before joining in on the info train, “And, uh, cultures all over the world actually believe that eating human flesh gives a person certain abilities like speed, strength, immortality…” I trail off
“If you eat enough of it, over years, you become this less than human thing. You're always hungry.” Dean adds on.
“So if that's true, how can Tommy still be alive?” Haley points out.
“You're not gonna like it.” Dean answers simply, glancing from Sam to me then back to Haley.
“Tell me.” She orders.
“More than anything, a wendigo knows how to last long winters without food. It hibernates for years at a time, but when it's awake it keeps its victims alive. It, uh, it stores them, so it can feed whenever it wants. If your brother's alive, it's keeping him somewhere dark, hidden, and safe. We gotta track it back there.” Dean finishes.
“And then how do we stop it?” Haley asks
“Well, guns are useless, so are knives. Basically we gotta torch the sucker.” He holds up a can of lighter fluid, a beer bottle, and a white cloth aka the makings of a molotov cocktail.
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
Dean leads the group, molotov cocktail in hand, as we follow the trail of claw marks on trees and blood.
It’s a while later when Sam starts leading the group.
“Dean. Y/N”
We catch up quickly, “mhm?” I hum in question
“You know, I was thinking, those claw prints, so clear and distinct. They were almost too easy to follow.” Sam talks, pointing out the bloody broken tree branches.
“Ah fric-“ My commentary gets cut off by growling, we whip around the trees rustling.
Haley’s standing under a tree looking up, blood dripping on her. When suddenly she leaps out of the way a corpse falling to the ground with a thud.
Roy’s corpse.
“His neck's broken.” Dean announces, examining the body as Sam helps Haley up.
More growling surrounds us.
“Okay, run, run, run, run, go, go, go!” Dean yells and without a second thought we take off. The sounds of our boots hitting the soft dirt.
In the corner of my eye I see Sam retreating backwards, I stop running, turning to see if he’s okay.
Bens on the ground, getting hauled up by Sam. I head closer towards them in case the wendigo decides to show up knowing I can at the very least hold it off.
“Come on, I gotcha, I gotcha.” Sam reassures Ben, as we start running again.
A scream, noticeably Haley’s racks the forest.
“Haley” Ben asks skidding to a stop.
Sam and I stop running, noticing that Dean and Haley are nowhere to be seen.
Sam bends down picking up Deans molotov cocktail, the bottles broken.
“Dean!”
~~~~~~~~~~~
“If it keeps its victims alive, why would it kill Roy?” Ben asks, walking in front of us.
“Roys shooting probably pissed it off” I answer wrapping my arms around myself, hoping the worry in my voice isn’t apparent.
Ben leans down picking something up, turning towards us holding up a peanut m&m. He moves over revealing a trail of them, “They went this way.”
I smile, Ben hands over the m&m to Sam who laughs.
“It's better than breadcrumbs.”
He tosses the piece of chocolate away.
We follow the trial carefully, coming up to a mine entrance marked with a sign that reads
‘WARNING! DANGER! DO NOT ENTER EXTREMELY TOXIC MATERIAL.’
We all look at each other shrugging before entering.
Sam leads the way, flashlight shining ahead.
There’s a sudden growl, he quickly turns the light off pulling Ben and me against the wall.
A tall white figure with long fingers stalks towards us, Sam having to cover Ben's mouth before he screams.
The Wendigo takes a different tunnel, only just missing us.
We keep going, the floors creaking below our feet.
A particular step made the floor creak a little too much, but before I can even take another step forward the floor collapses underneath us.
I groan quietly at the hard landing, trying to contain my coughing from the dust and destroyed wood. I looked down, noticing that the hard landing was a pile of bones.
I get up swiftly feeling grossed out, Ben must have just noticed the bones as he leaps backwards. Sam helps him up as he reassuringly says, “Hey, it's okay, it's okay, it's okay.”
We look up, finding Dean and Haley hanging by their wrists from the ceiling. My eyes widen and I feel my heart physically drop. I’ve been hunting before, even with Dean a couple of times. But I've never seen him hurt, not like this, not during a hunt, not being tied up.
Sam runs to Dean, Ben to Haley.
“Y/N! Cover us?” Sam orders and I move, breaking out of my freezing. I have my back towards the others, my hands lit up with pure white energy, ready for the wendigo. I knew it wouldn’t kill it, but at least I could keep it back.
“Haley, wake up!” Ben yells and I’m tempted to turn around but I know I shouldn’t.
“Dean!” Sam yells.
“Hey, you okay?” I hear Sam ask from behind me.
I hear Dean suck in a breath behind me, “Yeah.” He grumbles.
“Haley, Haley, wake up, wake up!” Ben yells again.
In the corner of my eye I see Sam cut down Dean and then Haley, moving them to an empty patch of floor. As they move I follow, still covering them.
Dean makes a pained noise. I clench my fists, the white energy still surging around them.
“Dean, you okay?” I ask, still not turning around.
He groans in pain, “Yeah. Yep. Where is he?”
“He’s gone for now” I answer simply.
Haley runs past me to a figure hanging in the corner, she starts crying, it’s then that I know it’s Tommy.
She touches his face gently, his head jerks up and she jumps back with a shriek. She turns towards me, eyeing me and the boys behind me, I don’t make eye contact.
Not because I don’t want to help but because I don’t want her to see my eyes, knowing my irises would be purple. Stupid thing to worry about when literal energy was coming from my hands, she’d see that before my eyes. But, still, I was scared for the moment she asks what the hell was going on with me. When her or her brothers do. It’s a rooted fear that no matter how much time goes by I can’t seem to shake.
Sam heads over and cuts Tommy free.
“We’re gonna get you home” She tells him.
A hand touches my shoulder and I tense, flinching slightly, even though it felt familiar.
“Relax” Dean whispers near my ear sending a shiver down my spine.
“You don’t have to be so stiff trying to protect us, cause look what I found” He holds up two flare guns pointing to a pile in the corner full of stolen supplies.
“Flare guns. Those’ll work” Sam says grinning.
Dean laughs and twirls the guns in his hands, and I can’t help the smile that makes its way onto my face.
We head down the tunnel Dean and Sam in the lead with their flare guns as I keep to the rear of the group.
“Looks like someone's home for supper.” Dean comments at the growling we heard.
“We’ll never outrun it” Haley points out.
Dean looks back at us, “You thinking what I’m thinking?”
“Yeah, I think so.” Sam answers and I nod.
“All right, listen to me. Stay with Sam and Y/N. They’re gonna get you out of here.” Dean plans.
“What are you gonna do?” Haley asks Dean.
He winks, walking and yelling, “Chow time, you freaky bastard! Yeah, that's right, bring it on, baby, I taste good.”
Sam waits until Dean is a safe distance away, “All right, come on! Hurry!”
The Collinses follow him down the tunnel, as I continue to hold down the rear.
We hurry down the tunnel before we hear more growling.
Sam points the gun in the direction, then lowers it turning to the Collinses.
“Get him outta here” He orders
“Sam, no”
“Go! Y/N get them outta here, Go!” he orders
I turned to the family making sure I no longer was using my powers as I pushed them out of there.
A moment later I hear Sam running after us, catching up, “Come on, hurry, hurry, hurry” he says, and I let him get in front of me as we reach the end of the tunnel.
I half turn to see the wendigo right behind us. I pivot the rest of the way around, quickly letting my hands light back up with energy during the half second that I moved.
I move my hands in front of me throwing a large energy blast right at the tall white creature, sending it a few feet back knocking it into a tree (the one that got in the way of it getting thrown further).
“Get behind me.” Sam tells the Collinses, hiding them behind himself as I stay in front of him.
The Wendigo approaches again and I throw it back again, a little harder this time.
I keep my hand in front of me, still lit with white energy as I bring my other hand down, flicking it swiftly, conjuring a flare gun into my hand.
I let the wendigo stalk a little closer before I raise my hand with the gun, I aim, pulling the trigger.
Just as Dean comes up a foot behind the wendigo, pulling his trigger.
The flare I shot goes off first, Deans following a second later. The wendigo goes up in flames.
“Teamwork” Dean says grinning at me.
I huff a laugh.
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
An ambulance loads up Tommy, two police officers interview Ben as Sam stands behind him.
“So…what was that whole thing back there with you” Haley asks me hands in her pockets, her and Dean both already patched up.
“I, oh, um…I’m a witch” I answer, feeling as if I'm shrinking inside myself. Telling people has never been a part I enjoy much.
“You're in the journal?” She asks
“I mean not me specifically but witches, yes. Most witches aren’t good, quite the opposite really…” I tail off looking down, feeling uncomfortable.
“Thank you.” She says leaning her head down to catch my eyes before adding, “I don’t know how to thank you guys.”
I just smile at her, glad to have helped but also glad to have moved away from the awkward conversation.
But when I look over to Dean, he’s smirking lasciviously.
“Whelp that’s my que to leave.” I announce, not wanting to know her answer. I turn around, heading to the Impala, a certain stabbing feeling echoes in my heart and I know it must be jealousy.
Which is stupid because 1. it’s not like me and Dean are even together, and 2. Dean does not like me in any sort of romantic way.
“Must you cheapen the moment” I hear Haley comment as I walk away, leaning on the hood of the Impala.
A minute or so later Sam joins me, and then Dean.
“Man, I hate camping.” Dean remarked
“Me too.”
“Amen.”
“You know we're gonna find Dad, right?” Dean asks, and I know the question is for Sam.
“Yeah, I know. But in the meantime? I'm driving.” Sam says all proudly.
Dean tosses him the keys smiling widely
Let It Ride - Supernatural rewrite
I do not own the characters, nor the storylines. I'm simply adding a twist to the episodes. Please feel free to help me out with constructive criticism on the story or the writing. Sorry for the mistakes, not proofread and english is not my first language. Here's the secon episode, I hope you like it.
1x01
Word Count: 6,6k
1x02 - Wendigo
Sam jerks awake from a nightmare. He is riding shotgun next to Dean on the Impala, with the Harley tailing them. Hot-Blooded by the Foreigner is playing on the radio. Sam blinks and rubs his eyes and Dean looks over, concerned.
“You okay?” he asks his younger brother, frowning. Sam glances over and away.
“Yeah, I'm fine.” he answers looking out the window. Dean nods and checks the rearview mirror to make sure the Harley is still there.
“Another nightmare?” He looks at his brother again. Sam clears his throat. “You wanna drive for a while?”
Sam laughs. “Dean, your whole life you never once asked me that.”
“Just thought you might want to. Never mind.” he says looking back to the road.
“Look, man, you're worried about me.” Sam says looking at his brother, “I get it, and thank you, but I'm perfectly okay.” he says grabbing a map and dean agrees skeptical. “All right, where are we?”
“We are just outside of Grand Junction.” he answers, looking back at the Harley again.
Sam folds down the map of Colorado that has a large red X labeled 35-111. “You know what?” he looks at Dean “Maybe we shouldn't have left Stanford so soon.” he says still thinking about Jess.
Dean signals and stops on the side of the road. Y/n catches up and stops by his open window. “Sam, we dug around there for a week. We came up with nothing. If you wanna find the thing that killed Jessica—”
“We gotta find Dad first.” Sam agrees without looking up.
“Dad disappearing and this thing showing up again after twenty years, it's no coincidence.” Dean says looking between Sam and y/n.
“Yeah. John will have answers. He'll know what to do.” Y/n dropped more her head to look at Sam.
“It's weird, guys.” he says, finally looking at his older ‘siblings’. “These coordinates he left us.” he pauses for a couple of seconds “This Blackwater Ridge.”
“What about it?” Dean looks back at him.
“There's nothing there. It's just woods.” Sam says putting down the map. “Why is he sending us to the middle of nowhere?”
The Impala and the Harley are parked next to a sign that says "RANGER STATION Lost Creek Trail, Lost Creek National Forest".
“So Blackwater Ridge is pretty remote.” Y/n says looking at a 3D map of the national forest, paying particular attention to the ridge labeled "BLACKWATER RIDGE". Dean looks at the decorations.
“It's cut off by these canyons here, rough terrain, dense forest, abandoned silver and gold mines all over the place.” Sam points around talking to y/n.
“Dude, check out the size of this freaking bear.” Dean exclaims, astonished looking at a framed photo of a man standing behind a much larger bear on the wall. Sam looks over and comes to stand next to Dean.
“And a dozen or more grizzlies in the area. It's no nature hike, that's for sure.” He finishes off looking over his shoulder to y/n.
A forest ranger, walks up behind them; when he speaks, the trio whip around, startled. “You kids aren't planning on going out near Blackwater Ridge by any chance?” the ranger says suspiciously.
“Oh, no, sir.” Y/n says smiling.
“We're environmental study majors from UC Boulder, just working on a paper.” Sam laughs a little creating a cover story. Dean grins and raises a fist.
“Recycle, man.” he says and the other two look at him frowning.
“Bull.” the ranger retorts, turning around. Sam's eyes flick to y/n, while she and Dean don't move. “You're friends with that Haley girl, right?”
Dean considers. “Yes. Yes, we are, Ranger Wilkinson.” he says after checking the ranger’s name tag.
“Well, I will tell you exactly what we told her. Her brother filled out a backcountry permit saying he wouldn't be back from Blackwater until the twenty-fourth, so it's not exactly a missing persons now, is it?” he asks looking at Dean again with one eyebrow raised. Dean shakes his head. “You tell that girl to quit worrying, I'm sure her brother's just fine.”
“We will.” he thinks about it and continues “Well that Haley girl's quite a pistol, huh?”
“That is putting it mildly.” the older man goes behind his desk and rests his mug on it.
“Actually you know what would help is if I could show her a copy of that backcountry permit. You know, so she could see her brother's return date.” The ranger eyes Dean, who simply raises his eyebrows smiling charmingly.
Dean, y/n and Sam leave the ranger station. Dean is holding a piece of paper and laughing.
“What, are you cruising for a hookup or something?” Sam asks.
“What do you mean?” Dean asks stopping and turning to hs brother.
“The coordinates point to Blackwater Ridge, so what are we waiting for? Let's just go find Dad. I mean, why even talk to this girl?” both Dean and y/n look back at him confused.
DEAN and SAM stop on opposite sides of the Impala.
“I don't know, maybe we should know what we're walking into before we actually walk into it?” Dean is on the driver’s side of the Impala, next to y/n, who is holding her Harley’s clutch, while Sam looks at them from the passenger’s side of Baby.
“What?” He looks at both, annoyed.
“Since when are you all shoot first ask questions later, anyway?” y/n asks tilting her head.
“Since now.” Sam turns away; opening the car door.
“Really?” Dean asking opening his side too and looking inside to Sam, who just shrugs. “Let´s go to this Hayley’s house.” He tells y/n and gets in the car.
They all stand at the door to a house. The door opens to reveal Haley Collins. “You must be Haley Collins. I'm Dean, this is Sam and y/n, we're… ah…” he looks at the two and back at the girl “We're rangers with the Park Service. Ranger Wilkinson sent us over. He wanted us to ask a few questions about your brother Tommy.”
Haley hesitates. “Lemme see some ID.” Dean pulls out a fake ID with the name 'Samuel Cole' and holds it up against the screen of the door. She looks at it, then at Dean, who smiles, then opens the door “Come on in.”
“Thanks.” y/n says smiling and entering the house. followed by the two men. Haley catches sight of the Impala.
“That yours?” she points at the car.
Dean looks over his shoulder and smiles. “Yeah.” Sam and y/n are looking back at the Impala.
“Nice car.” She smiles back and turns to lead the trio into the kitchen. Y/n rolls her eyes at Dean’s face, looking back at the girl. Dean turns his head to mouth something to Sam, who also rolls his eyes. “This is my other brother Ben.” She says as they get to the kitchen and a boy is sitting at the table on a laptop.
“So if Tommy's not due back for a while, how do you know something's wrong?” Sam asks sitting down on a chair while Haley does too on the head of the table.
“He checks in every day by cell. He emails, photos, stupid little videos—we haven't heard anything in over three days now.” The girl says and looks over at y/n who’s sitting on her other side.
“Well, maybe he can't get cell reception.” she says looking back at the girl.
“He's got a satellite phone, too.” she answers shaking her head.
“Could it be he's just having fun and forgot to check in?” Dean asks knitting his brows and sitting by y/s side.
“He wouldn't do that.” Ben chimes in. Dean eyes the boy and he looks away.
“Our parents are gone. It's just my two brothers and me. We all keep pretty close tabs on each other.” Haley explains looking at Dean.
“Can I see the pictures he sent you?” Sam asks and Haley agrees, getting up to grab a laptop. She pulls up pictures and turns the computer to the trio.
“That's Tommy.” She clicks twice and another picture comes up, then the still frame opens the latest video.
“Hey Haley, day six, we're still out near Blackwater Ridge. We're fine, keeping safe, so don't worry, okay? Talk to you tomorrow.” Tom says in the video and it ends.
“Excuse me.” Sam says pulling the computer and playing the video again.
“Well, we'll find your brother. We're heading out to Blackwater Ridge first thing.” y/n says turning to the girl and smiling reassuringly.
“Then maybe I'll see you there.” she looks back at the girl “Look, I can't sit around here anymore. So I hired a guy. I'm heading out in the morning, and I'm gonna find Tommy myself.”
“I think I know how you feel.” Dean tells her, looking between Haley and Ben.
“Hey, do you mind forwarding these to me?” Sam asks still looking at the computer screen and Haley agrees.
In a bar, the trio is sitting down at a table. Sam has John’s journal and y/n has some newspaper articles.
“So, Blackwater Ridge doesn't get a lot of traffic. Local campers, mostly. But still, this past April, two hikers went missing out there. They were never found.” she says, looking between the two men. Sam opens John's journal.
“Any before that?” Dean asks looking at her. She hands the newspaper articles to show him.
“Yeah, in 1982, eight different people all vanished in the same year. Authorities said it was a grizzly attack.” Dean reads over the headline “And again in 1959 and again before that in 1936.” While she explains what she found Sam pulls up and opens his laptop, which already has a window open to Tom's video. “Every twenty-three years, just like clockwork.”
“Here. Watch this.” he turns the computer screen to the side of the table y/n and Dean are sitting “Here's a clincher. I downloaded that guy Tommy's video to the laptop. Check this out.” Sam goes through three frames of the video one at a time. A shadow crosses the screen behind Tom.
“Do it again.” y/n asks looking intently at the screen. Sam repeats the frames.
“That's three frames. That's a fraction of a second. Whatever that thing is, it can move.” Dean hits Sam, making him and y/n look up..
“Told you something weird was going on.” Dean says without taking his eyes of the screen.
“Yeah.” The younger man answers, closing the laptop
“I got one more thing.” y/n says grabbing one article from the bottle of the pile and hands Sam “In 'fifty-nine one camper survived this supposed grizzly attack. Just a kid. Barely crawled out of the woods alive.”
Dean looks over at The Lost Creek Gazette.
“Is there a name?” the two ask in unison looking at the girl. who nods and gets up. “C’mon, I found his address already.” Outside the bar she heads to shotgun of the Impala.
“And…? What’s his name?” Sam asks following her, with Dean behind him.
“Robert Shaw.” she says opening the door “I’ll go with you, I’ll just need to come back and grab Dixie afterwards.” she refers to the Harley. The two men take their respective seats, with Dean driving and Sam on the backseat.
This was the arrangement they always had growing up, since Sam is 2 years younger than her, she would normally be shotgun whenever it was just the three of them. And Dean being 2 years older than she was, normally, the designated driver, unless he had found a chick, then the two youngest had to figure out a way to go back to the motel by themselves. In the beginning Dean’s rendezvous bothered her a lot, because she always had a crush on him. With time she learned to ignore it, but whenever she thought about it, her stomach still turned.
Arriving at the old man’s building, they headed to the door and knocked. Using the ranger cover again, Mr. Shaw let them in.
“Look, ranger, I don't know why you're asking me about this. It's public record. I was a kid. My parents got mauled by a—” he stated walking inside the apartment with a cigarette on the corner of his mouth.
Sam interrupts the man “Grizzly? That's what attacked them?” Mr. Shaw takes a puff of his cigarette, takes it out, and nods.
“The other people that went missing that year, those were bear attacks too?” y/n asked looking at the man frowning. They all paused.
“What about all the people that went missing this year? Same thing?” Dean added. Another pause. “If we knew what we were dealing with, we might be able to stop it.” he continued.
“I seriously doubt that. Anyways, I don't see what difference it would make.” Mr. Shaw sits down on a recliner. “You wouldn't believe me. Nobody ever did.”
Sam sits down across from the old men. “Mr. Shaw, what did you see?”
He pauses again. “Nothing. It moved too fast to see. It hid too well. I heard it, though. A roar. Like...no man or animal I ever heard.”
“It came at night?” y/n asked looking between Sam and Mr. Shaw, the latter nods.
“ It got inside your tent?” Sam asks, trying to understand further.
“It got inside our cabin. I was sleeping in front of the fireplace when it came in. It didn't smash a window or break the door.” he looked from Sam to y/n “It unlocked it.” he looked back to Sam “Do you know of a bear that could do something like that? I didn't even wake up till I heard my parents screaming.”
“It killed them?” y/n asked with a calm voice.
“Dragged them off into the night.” Mr Shaw shakes his head. “Why it left me alive… been asking myself that ever since.” He pauses. And then his hands go to his collar. “Did leave me this, though.” The older man opens his collar to reveal three long scars. Claw marks. “There's something evil in those woods. It was some sort of a demon.”
The trio walk the length of a corridor with rooms on either side.
“Spirits and demons don't have to unlock doors. If they want inside, they just go through the walls.” Dean says looking ahead.
“So it's probably something else, something corporeal.” Sam looks at him.
“Corporeal? Excuse me, professor.” Y/n asks, a tone of laugh in her voice.
“Shut up. So what do you guys think?” he says smiling.
“The claws, the speed that it moves...could be a skinwalker, maybe a black dog.” Dean answers also smiling.
“Whatever we're talking about, we're talking about a creature, and it's ‘corporeal’. Which means we can kill it.” Y/n looks at the two brothers.
On the next morning, Dean opens the trunk of the Impala, then the weapons box, and props it open with a shotgun. He puts some guns in a duffel bag, while y/n brings her own duffel over her shoulder. Sam leans in.
“We cannot let that Haley girl go out there.” he says looking at Dean then y/n.
“Oh yeah? What are we gonna tell her? That she can't go into the woods because of a big scary monster?” dean retorts knitting his brows when looking at Sam.
“Yeah.”
“Her brother's missing, Sam. She's not gonna just sit this out. Now we go with her, we protect her, and we keep our eyes peeled for our fuzzy predator friend.” Y/n tells him with a hand under his elbow. Dean picks up his duffel.
“Finding Dad's not enough?” Sam slams the weapons box shut, then the trunk. “Now we gotta babysit too?” Dean stares at Sam. “What?”
“Nothing.” he says and throws the duffel bag at Sam walking off. Sam looks over at y/n, who just shakes her head and follows Dean.
AT the forest, the Impala pulls up. Dean, Sam and Y/n get down and find Haley, Ben and a man checking a shotgun, all with full backpacks.
“I'll tell you again, I don't think Ben should come.” The man tells Haley and shakes his head.
“Roy—” the girl looks at him.
“Look, you're paying me good money to keep everybody safe. I think Ben's safest at home.” Sam opens the back door of the Impala and pulls out two duffel bags, making Roy and Haley look in their direction.
“You guys got room for two more?” Dean asks as Y/n grab one of the duffel Sam is handing her.
“Wait, you want to come with us?” Haley asks, looking at Dean.
“Who are these guys?” Roy asks, getting closer to her.
“Apparently this is all the park service could muster up for the search and rescue.” Haley rolls her eyes and Sam heads past everyone. Y/n and Dean look at eachother.
“You're rangers?” Roy asks eyeing the two that are left.
“That's right.” Dean grins at them.
“And you're hiking out in biker boots and jeans?” Haley points at their feets and pants. Dean and y/n look down at themselves.
“Well, sweetheart, I don't do shorts.” Dean winks and y/n rolls her eyes as they head past Haley.
“What, you think this is funny? It's dangerous back country out there. Her brother might be hurt.”
Sam and Y/n look back. “Believe me, I know how dangerous it can be. We just wanna help them find their brother, that's all.” Dean says passing Sam and Y/n..
The group hikes through the forest, Roy in the lead, then Dean, Haley, Ben, y/n and Sam bringing up the rear.
“Roy, you said you did a little hunting.” Dean looks up at the man in front of him “What kind of furry critters do you hunt?”
“Yeah, more than a little. Mostly buck, sometimes bear.” Roy walks slower.
As Dean passes Roy, he asks “Tell me, uh, Bambi or Yogi ever hunt you back?” Roy grabs Dean. Y/n looks on.
“Whatcha doing, Roy?” Dean asks more quietly staring at Roy. He grabs a stick and pokes the bear trap Dean had almost stepped in. Haley looks annoyed.
“You should watch where you're stepping. Ranger.” he drops the stick and retakes the lead.
“It's a bear trap.” Dean looks back at the rest of the group. Y/n rolls her eyes at Dean.
They hike on. Haley catches up to Dean. “You didn't pack any provisions. You guys are carrying duffel bags. You're not rangers.” Haley grabs Dean's arm, making y/n look up at them. “So who the hell are you?”
Ben passes Haley, Dean and y/n. Sam looks at Dean, who indicates with his expression that Sam and y/n can keep going; they obey, but y/n walks slower.
“Sam and I are brothers, Y/n is our best friend since forever. And we're looking for our father. He might be here, we don't know. I just figured that you and me,” he looks her more intently “we're in the same boat.” Sam passes them.
“Why didn't you just tell me that from the start?” Haley asks confused.
“I'm telling you now. 'sides, it's probably the most honest I've ever been with a woman. ...ever.” he says. Y/n passes them agreeing. “So we okay?” He continues ignoring the girl. Haley pauses, but then agrees.”And what do you mean I didn't pack provisions?” Dean pulls out a big bag of peanut M&Ms and sticks his hand in the bag as he hikes on, tapping y/n on the shoulder and passing the bag to her afterwards. Haley waits a moment, then follows.
After a while hiking Roy, still leading stops. “This is it. Blackwater Ridge.”
Sam heads past Roy. “What coordinates are we at?” he asks and Roy pulls a GPS out reading it.
“Thirty-five and minus one-eleven.”
Y/n comes up to Sam. “You hear that?” she asks the younger man.
“Yeah. Not even crickets.” he answers as Dean reaches them.
“I'm gonna go take a look around.” the guide says rearranging his backpack.
“You shouldn't go off by yourself.” Y/n warns him, looking at the man.
“That's sweet, honey. Don't worry about me.” he waves his gun and pushes between Dean and Sam to retake the lead. They turn back to the others as Ben and Haley catch up.
“All right, everybody stays together. Let's go.” Y/n sighs and tells the rest annoyed at Roy.
“Haley! Over here!” Haley runs towards Roy's voice, followed closely by the others. They come to a halt.
“Oh my God.” she says, alarmed. The tents are torn open and bloody and all the supplies are scattered.
“Looks like a grizzly.” Roy says holding a torn out part of a tent. The rest looks around.
“Tommy?” Haley takes off her backpack and goes through the campsite. “Tommy!” Sam moves to catch up with Haley, shushing her. “Why?”
“Something might still be out there.” he says looking around the woods.
“Sam! Y/n!” they head over to Dean, and crouch next to him. “The bodies were dragged from the campsite. But here, the tracks just vanish. That's weird.” They stand up.
“I'll tell you what, that's no skinwalker or black dog.” y/n tells the two men looking between them. Back at the campsite Haley is crying over Tom’s cellphone.
“Hey, he could still be alive.” Dean tells her when he’s close enough. She gives him a look.
“Help! Help!” a man’s voice yells from the woods. Roy leads the way as everyone drops their gear and runs to the aid of the shouter. “Help! Somebody!” They find no one.
“It seemed like it was coming from around here, didn't it?” Haley says agitated. They listen.
“Everybody back to camp.” Sam says turning and already heading back. At the campsite, all the supplies are missing.
“Our packs!” Haley says, looking around.
“So much for my GPS and my satellite phone.” Roy complains.
“What the hell is going on?” Haley asks fearful looking between Roy and Dean.
“It's smart. It wants to cut us off so we can't call for help.” Y/n says and looks at Sam.
“You mean someone, some nutjob out there just stole all our gear.” Roy looks at her and throws his arms up.
Sam goes to Y/n and Dean.
“I need to speak with you two. In private.” They head a little ways away from the group. “Good. Let me see Dad's journal.” Dean hands it over. Sam opens it and flips through until he finds a particular page while the other two look at him. “All right, check that out.” He points to a First Nations–style drawing of a figure.
“Oh come on, wendigos are in the Minnesota woods or, or northern Michigan. I've never even heard of one this far west.” Dean tells Sam looking back at his brother.
“Yeah, but think about it, Dean. The claws, the way it can mimic a human voice. It actually makes sense.” Y/n exclaims still looking at the page.
“Great.” Dean takes out his pistol. “Well then this is useless.” Sam hands the journal back to Dean.
Sam started going back to the group, but stops and turns “We gotta get these people to safety.” Dean and y/n look at each other and sigh. Back at the campsite, Sam addresses the group. “All right, listen up, it's time to go. Things have gotten...more complicated.”
“What?” Haley asks.
“Kid, don't worry. Whatever's out there, I think I can handle it.” Roy tries to be the alpha again and Sam cut him off.
“It's not me I'm worried about. If you shoot this thing, you're just gonna make it mad. We have to leave. Now.” He looks back to Haley and Ben.
“One, you're talking nonsense. Two, you're in no position to give anybody orders.” Roys takes a step towards Sam.
“Relax.” “Hey!” Y/n and Dean say at the same time stepping closer to Sam and Roy.
“We never should have let you come out here in the first place, all right? I'm trying to protect you.” Sam looks back to Roy who steps right into Sam's space.
“You protect me? I was hunting these woods when your mommy was still kissing you good night.” He looks up, since Sam is taller than him, with a snare on his face.
“Well, this thing it's a damn near perfect hunter.” Y/n says as she and Dean go closer to them and put themselves between the two.
“It's smarter than you, and it's gonna hunt you down and eat you alive unless we get your stupid sorry ass out of here.” Sam tries to get closer to Roy but y/n has a hand on his chest and he doesn’t press it.
Roy laughs. “You know you're crazy, right?”
“Yeah? You ever hunt a wen—” Y/n pushes Sam and Dean comes with her looking at Sam.
“Chill out.” Dean yells in Sam’s face at the same time Haley calls Roy out.
“Stop. Stop it. Everybody just stop. Look. Tommy might still be alive. And I'm not leaving here without him.” She comes closer to Roy.
“Look, it's getting late. This thing is a good hunter in the day, but an unbelievable hunter at night.” Y/n started.
“We'll never beat it, not in the dark. We need to settle in and protect ourselves.” Dean continues and look back at the girl he grew up with.
“How?” Haley asks.
It was already night and the group has built a campfire, and Dean and Y/n draw something in the dirt around the campsite while Haley pokes at the fire.
“One more time, that's…” Haley asks looking at the two.
“Anasazi symbols. It's for protection. The wendigo can't cross over them.” Dean explains again to the girl. Roy laughs, gun over his shoulder.
“Nobody likes a skeptic, Roy.” y/n tells the guide as she heads over to sit next to Sam, who is at the edge of the campsite.
“You wanna tell me what's going on in that freaky head of yours?” she asks, trying to look in his eyes.
“Y/N, I…” He starts but Dean cuts him off getting to them and sitting by y/n side, using her knee as support.
“No, you're not fine. You're like a powder keg, man, it's not like you. I'm supposed to be the belligerent one, remember?” Dean says, scolding him.
“He has a point.” Y/n smiles and points Dean with her head. A pause.
“Dad's not here. I mean, that much we know for sure, right? He would have left us a message, a sign, right?” Sam looks at Dean and waits for an answer.
“Yeah, you're probably right. Tell you the truth, I don't think Dad's ever been to Lost Creek.” Dean looks down, then back to Sam.
“Then let's get these people back to town and let's hit the road. Go find Dad. I mean, why are we still even here?”
“This is why.” Dean takes his hand off y/n knee and holds up John's journal. “This book. This is Dad's single most valuable possession—everything he knows about every evil thing is in here. And he's passed it on to us. I think he wants us to pick up where he left off. You know, saving people, hunting things.”
“The family business.” Y/n finishes Dean’s sentence. He smiles at her and she smiles back.
Sam shakes his head. “That makes no sense. Why doesn't he just… call us? Why doesn't he… tell us what he wants, tell us where he is?”
“I dunno. But the way I see it, Dad's giving us a job to do, and I intend to do it.” He looks back at his brother
“Dean...no. I gotta find Dad. I gotta find Jessica's killer. It's the only thing I can think about.”
“Okay, all right, Sam, we'll find them, I promise.” Dean tells him
“Listen to me, Sammy. You've gotta prepare yourself. I mean, this search could take a while, and all that anger, you can't keep it burning over the long haul. It's gonna kill you. You gotta have patience, man.” Y/n tells him and grabs his hand, making him look at her.
Sam looks down, then up again. “How do you do it? How does Dad do it?”
Y/n looks over at Haley and Ben. “Well for one, them.” Sam follows her gaze.
“Besides, I figure our family's so screwed to hell, maybe we can help some others. Makes things a little bit more bearable.” Dean continues also looking at the siblings by the fire. He pauses and looks at Y/n. “Also, I'll tell you what else helps.” Her eyes meet his.
Sam looks back at Dean.
“Killing as many evil sons of bitches as we possibly can.” The three smile. A twig snaps.
They all hear a voice, probably the WENDIGO “Help me! Please!” Dean stands and readies his gun. “Help!” Sam shines a flashlight about.
“He's trying to draw us out. Just stay cool, stay put.” y/n tells everyone and goes closer to the campfire and the siblings.
“Inside the magic circle?” Roy retorts, laughing without humor.
“Help! Help me!” And then a growl starts.
Roy points his gun at the sound. “Okay, that's no grizzly.”
“It's okay. You'll be all right, I promise.” Haley tells Ben in particular. Another sound sounds closer and she shrieks.
“It's here.” Sam says.
Roy shoots at the rustling, then again. “I hit it!” Roy says and goes to see what he hit.
“Roy, no! Roy!” Dean yells and turns back to Haley and Ben. “Don't move.” Dean, Y/n and Sam run after Roy.
“It's over here! It's in the tree!” they hear the guide up front, but the wendigo reaches down from the tree and snaps Roy's neck.
“Roy!” Sam shines the flashlight around, then they head back to camp.
The next day, after a night taking turns to keep watch, Sam and Y/n are sitting against a hollow tree stump, Sam is holding John's journal and playing with a lanyard attached to it and she has her head on his shoulder with her eyes closed. Dean, Haley and Ben are among the tents.
“Can I ask you something?” Sam starts without taking his eyes off the journal.
“Mm-hm” the girl murmurs not moving.
“Why weren’t you with Dad? Before he disappeared?” he tries to look at her without making her move.
“Well…” she starts and pauses for a couple of seconds “I was supposed to be with Dean, on his hunt. But headed to Bobby’s for a while. She sighs and pauses again.
“Why?” he insists.
“Ah, you know…” she looks at him, still laying on his shoulder. When she realizes he isn’t dropping it, she stands up and sighs again. “I don’t know. The two of us went to a lot of hunts by ourselves this last year. And, sometimes, when is just the two of us…” she looks ahead and finds Dean talking to Haley “it gets a little weird, the tension, and stuff. It wasn’t always, it was actually spreaded…” She looks back to Sam “But still, I needed some time away from him.”
“You still have a crush on him.” Sam half states-half questions, because of course Sam knew. He was her confident when the subject was Dean. And he never told Dean, the same way he never told her all the things Dean always said about her to him. Even though sometimes he just wanted to put both of them in a locked room and just let them leave after they talked about their feelings.
She doesn't answer him, just gives him a sad smile and gets up, holding a hand to him. He takes it and they head towards the group. They decide to go explore. Dean leads the way through the woods, Molotov cocktail in hand. Y/n follows then, Haley and Ben, then Sam. They pass trees with claw marks and blood.
“Dean.” y/n calls the older man to the side.
Dean catches up. “What is it?”
They look around at the trees. There are bloody claw marks and broken branches everywhere. “You know, I was thinking, those claw prints, so clear and distinct. They were almost too easy to follow.”
They all hear a growl. Sam whips around. Trees rustle. Blood drips on y/n’s shirt. Dean notices and looks up, then pushes her out of the way; Roy’s corpse lands where they’d stood seconds before. Sam examines Roy as Dean gets up and helps y/n
“You okay? You got it?” he asks as she takes his hand to get up. She nods and mouths a ‘thank you’ as Sam speaks.
“His neck's broken.” More growling.
“Okay, run, run, run, run, go, go, go!” Dean says as he starts running still holding Y/n’s hand so she follows. Everybody takes off.
Ben falls and Sam hurries back to help him up, dividing the group three and two.
“Come on, I gotcha, I gotcha.” Sam tells Ben as he helps him up. Dean, Haley and Y/n stop short; the wendigo is in front of them. Haley screams.
“Haley?” Ben yells back.
Dean drops the molotov. And they hear Sam’s yell “Dean! Y/n!”
The wendigo has an unconscious Haley on one shoulder and is pulling Dean and Y/n by the ankles on each hand. She looks at Dean and mouths ‘M&M’s’. He looks at her confused. They know it won’t do any good to fight the Wendigo the way they are now. So their best shot is giving Sam a chance to find them. She held out her hand to Dean and he carefully took the bag of candy from his pocket and handed it to her.
She grabs and opens it without making too much noise. Then starts to drop one M&M every couple of steps. When the wendigo raised them from the floor Dean’s head hit a rock and he passed out. She was worried about him, but kept doing her task of leaving Sam’s trail. After they got to its lair, the thing dropped Dean and y/n, leaving her unconscious as well.
Sam and Ben look up after falling through the floor; Dean, y/n and Haley are hanging by their wrists from the ceiling. Sam runs to Dean.
“Dean! Dean!” Sam grabs and shakes dean while Ben is calling Haley. “Dean!” Dean opens his eyes. Hey, you okay?” Dean winces.
“Where’s, Y/n?” Dean asks looking around and spotting her, but when Sam cuts him down he almost falls to the floor.
“I’m going to her now. Calm down. Sit here!” Sam helps him to an empty patch on the floor and goes to y/n who’s still unconscious. Ben passes him with Haley, after releasing her. “Y/n! Wake up! Hey, how are you?”
She opens her eyes slowly and a pained look crosses her face. “I’m amazing.” she says faintly. “Dean?” she asks weakly.
“Right here.” he answer her from his spot, already standing up and going to her and Sam to help out, groaning. Meanwhile, Haley spots Tom, still hanging and starts crying.
“Tommy…” Haley touches Tom's cheek. His head jerks up. Haley jumps back and shrieks. She turns to Sam. “Cut him down!” Sam heads to them and cuts him down. “We're gonna get you home.”
The stolen supplies are piled in the corner. Dean picks up flare guns. “Check it out.”
“Flare guns. Those'll work.” Y/n grins and Sam smiles. Dean laughs and twirls the guns. They head down a tunnel, Dean and Sam in the lead with the flare guns and with y/n between them, and Haley and Ben supporting Tom, who is limping. They hear a growl.
“Looks like someone's home for supper.” Dean looks back at the siblings behind them.
“We'll never outrun it.” Haley looks at the hunters frightened.
Dean looks back at Sam and y/n. “You thinking what I'm thinking?” she nods and Sam answers.
“Yeah, I think so.”
“All right, listen to me. Stay with Sam. He's gonna get you out of here.” y/n says.
“What are you gonna do?” Hayley looks between Dean and y/n.
Dean frowns and looks at her. “no, you’re going with them.”
“I’m not leaving you behind alone! Don’t even try it.”
Dean chuckles and shakes his head looking at the floor. He looks back at Haley and winks, starting to walk back hand in hand to the girl he spent most of his life with.
“Chow time, you freaky bastard!” She yells, smiling back at Dean.
“Yeah, that's right, bring it on, baby, We taste good.” He looks ahead and yells too.
Sam waits until Dean and y/n are a safe distance away and looks back at the three siblings. “All right, come on! Hurry!” The Collinses follow Sam down the tunnel. They hear a growling sound. Sam points the gun at it, then lowers the gun and turns to the Collinses. “Get him outta here.” “Sam, no.” Haley starts.
“Go! Go! Go!” Sam tells them and turns back to the mine.
“Come on, Haley!” Ben starts pulling his sister to the entrance of the mine. Sam holds the flare gun ready to shoot, looking down the tunnel.
“Come on. Come on.” Sam yells and the growling intensifies. Sam turns and: the wendigo is right in his face. Sam shoots and misses, then runs after the Collinses. “Get behind me.” Sam is large enough to hide all three Collinses. The wendigo approaches, taking its time.
“Hey!” they hear Dean’s voice. The wendigo turns. Y/n shoots it in the stomach. The flare goes off and the wendigo goes up in flames. “Not bad, huh?” Dean asks and y/n grins at Sam.
An ambulance loads up Tom. Two police officers interview Ben while Sam stands behind him. A paramedic cleans the last cut in y/n’s cheek. When she sees Ben and Sam leaving the officers side and head to Dean and Haley, who have been patched up already.
Y/n sees Dean smirking lasciviously at Haley, she says something and he nods laughing. The paramedic tells the girl she’s all done and she thanks him. Not wanting to head in Dean’s direction, but everyone’s there already. Another paramedic calls Haley and she followed him, not before leaving a kiss on Dean's cheek. Y/n’s stomach turns, but she looks down.
“Man, I hate camping.” Dean says as soon as y/n reaches the Impala and sits down next to him.
“Me too.” “Yeah.” Sam and her answer him.
“Sam,” she looks past Dean at him, “you know we're gonna find John, right?”
“Yeah, I know. But in the meantime?” He turns his eyes to Dean “I'm driving.”
Dean looks down at his keyes, as he considers it. He throws them in the air and Sam grabs it. Y/n runs to shotgun and gets in the car, when Dean realizes, he looks at her incredulously.
“You snooze, you lose, Winchester.” she winks at him when Sam enters the driver’s seat. Looking at the sky Dean heads to the backseat. Sam turns the keyes and ‘Fly By Night’ by Rush begins to play while they drive off.
abby and her gf whose always bringing home random stray animals . cuz u cant leave them to be outside in the cold :( u had no choice but to take them home!!!
-🧩
Agh puzzle nonnie I’m so sorry it took so long to respond!! I have so many asks on the back burner rn bc y’all keep sending such good thoughts, I forgot to respond to this one 😭
Abby would be so concerned the first time you brought home a stray cat. It was pouring rain and you found this soaked through lil void of a cat huddling next to your building, so obviously you had to take her in! you get her inside, after coaxing her into your jacket, and ur sitting in the bathroom, holding her in a clean dry towel after having already dried her off to the best of your ability, when Abby comes home. Just a side note, I think she loves calling out “honey I’m home” or some variation on that bc she thinks it’s cute. And ur like “pls don’t freak out, I’m in the bathroom.”
So now she Is freaking out bc what kind of response is that. And then she walks into the bathroom and pauses. like. is that a cat. And ur like, yeah :] can we keep her?
Abby tries to convince you not to, but the cat is already so attached, all cuddled up in your lap, purring, that she couldn’t bear making you part with the cat. So that’s how you and Abby get your first pet together! You name her Soot, short for Soot Spirit, and she becomes ur guys child!
And it’s like another three months until the next incident. She comes home and Soot is meowing at the front door, waiting for her like “mom come look at this bullshit” bc when Abby finds you, ur playing with a lil pitbull puppy in the bathroom! and she’s like. Again. And ur like Abby pls pls pls. And the puppy trods up to her and jumps up on her leg, giving her the cutest, well, puppy eyes, and she’s like “fucking hell ok”. and that’s ur second baby! Her name is Haley (after Dick Grayson’s pittie) and she follows Abby everywhere!!! She loves Abby so much!!! And you!!! So now you guys are mothers of two.
And then it happens again. Abby comes home to you cradling another cat, a tabby, and she’s like. Baby. We literally cannot have another pet. And u know she’s right this time :( bc the apartment is full enough with the four of you, u can’t have another baby :( and so begins the process of u n Abby rescuing animals you come across, taking them to really good shelters <3 that tabby cat btw? Nora ends up adopting him, naming him Dean n he becomes her lil guy 💕
this is by far one of the best additions to the college basketball Abby x chubby reader universe thank u 🧩 nonnie
Self Insert/Reader Characters Fic Update
Hey y’all, so I’ve decided to step away from the self insert character bit. And by that I mean I’ve given an actual name to the famous Y/N for better story writing.
So for clarity, I’m not writing a series when I use these names, they’re stand alone, self insert/readercharacter fics.
For out female reader inserts we have:
Ashton x Nova
Calum x Thea
Michael x Harley
Luke x Adalyn
Lip x Haley
Sebastian x Maeve
Bucky x Gemma
And for male reader inserts we have:
Ashton x Dean
Calum x Jude
Michael x Wesley
Luke x Sylas
Sebastian x Chase
Bucky x Milo
Thank you guys for all your continued love and support. More fics coming your way soon!
All Is Fair In Love And War Ch 2.
Y/N x Haley Dean (random characters not from franchises.)
Summary : You finally decide to say a full scentence to Haley. I wonder how that goes?
"This is talking"
-This is thinking-
You're walking back to your room when your friend finds you. Not Mai but that camera guy you found. "Hey, how are you doing after witnessing a kill" you said to which they just shrugged "Talking isn't your thing is it. " you said and they shook their head. "Well whatever I do the talking and you just listen do that and this friendship will work OK. " you said to them and they nodded.
"You know, I've been thinking about actually talking to Haley. What do you think?" You said making them aggressively shake their head no. What you didn't know is that Camera guy has watched you from afar, and they saw the way you reacted to her. "Heeeey I know what to do, I'll introduce you to haley. It would be something for me to talk about so I won't have to just make stuff up." You continue without noticing camera guys eyes widen tremendously
"It would be weird if I called you Camera Guy so what's your name?" You said making Camera guy spell out their name. "M.A.K.I" you spell out "Maki your name is Maki. Ok well Maki let's go back to my room Haley should be there waiting for me. I'm supposed to be tutoring her." Maki nodded at you. You would never say, but you didn't know what gender Maki is. Maki would never say, but they don't know what your gender is.
____________________________________________
In your room
You're about to unlock your door when you hear laughing. Not just one person laughing, but two. Who could be in your room? When you opened the door you could see Mai in your room sitting beside Haley. If it was anyone else you would have been pissed off, but no matter what you wouldn't hurt Mai. Bros before them hoes. You walked in and Maki closed the door behind y'all. "Hey, y/n I've just been chilling with Haley." Mai talked, but you were to happy to actually listen.
With Mai and Maki here you had two topics to talk about. Hopefully you wouldn't sound stupid or say something weird or nothing at all. You're determined to talk to Haley, you just thought it was weird to kill for somebody you can't even talk to. "Y/N! You good. " Mai yells snapping you out of your thoughts. "Y-yea" you say with a voice crack just Haley being in the area was enough to slow your brain down. Maki stood there embarrassed for you.
"Hey y/n I'm ready for tutoring, but first who's your friend?" She said with a hint of interest in her eyes. This was your chance -just say hey this is my friend Maki.- "Uhh this i-is friend my Maki. " Damn what was thaaaaat. Both Mai and Maki turned away while Haley stared at you with confused eyes but also a smile. One that you thought was beautiful it was an honor she showed it to you. "Wait, y/n what did you say."
This time you had a plan...think about puppies and it would all be alright. You were about to speak when Mai said "Did you guys hear about Mr. Forsberg death. They say he was stabbed a bunch. Just cuts everywhere." Usually that would have been a surprise, but in this case it wasn't. "What, Mr. Forsberg died. I mean I didn't like him, but I wouldn't wish death on him. That's so sad." You and Maki nodded stiffly which made both Mai and Haley look at y'all weird.
"U-um but like I was saying t-this is M-aaki." You said trying to change the subject quickly and messing up a bit, and by the look of Maki's face they weren't to happy you messed up their name. Whatever.┐( ̄ー ̄)┌ You finally said something to Haley. You were having a ball on the inside. "Hi Maki nice to meet you. Haley put her hand out and Maki took it gently and kissed the back of her hand. "Aww, that's sweet." Haley said -To sweet.- you glared at Maki making them immediately let go of Haley's hand.
"So y/n let's get get this study stuff over with." Haley said sitting down in the chair by the desk. "Alright Maki you can come and chill in my dorm. Let's go" -NOOOO my topic- you yelled in your mind while keeping a straight face. Maki turned towards you with a sorry face before walking out and closing the door behind them. You walked towards Haley and sat down beside her.
____________________________________________
After studying
Somehow you helped her with speaking a bit of words. I gotta say that is impressive. You both were laying down in your beds. She was on her phone back turned towards you and you were watching her every move. Just studying what she does and how she does it. Everything was alright until she turned around noticing you watching her. Your mind went into panick you quickly snatched a book from under your bed and pretended to read it.
You heard her bed squeak. You couldn't see because of the book and you were too afraid to put it down. Soon you put the book down to find her standing above you with her arms crossed and a small smile on her face. You jumped from surprise and she laughed. It was a beautiful laugh it was like melody. You loved it. "You know it weird to watch people."
She said sitting down on your bed. "S-sorry" you said embarrassed. "It's alright now move over. " she said causing you to make a confused face "Move over so I can lay down." You didn't say anything as you were surprised you just moved over and she layed down beside you. "I'm sad Mr. Forsberg died sure he was a horrible person, but he didn't deserve to die. -yes he did- you thought.
"Yea, i-its pretty upsetting." You say nonchalantly "But you know what made me happy." She said and you shook your head "It was you talking to me. We have been living together for a while and we very rarely talk, so to hear you talk a full scentence even if you did mess up the first time. It really made me happy." What she said made you feel sick to the core in a good way. "Ok I'll try to speak more." You said
It was only until you saw Haley's eyes go wide that you realized you just spoke a full scentence clearly. Both of you smiled. Haley slept with you in your bed that night, and you could have never been happier.
You couldn't wait to tell Mai and Maki about this.
Season 1 Episode 2: W*ndigo
Let’s do this.
- I love this recap remember when if you missed the first episode you just didn’t watch it until the reruns or dvs anyways those dramatic screen titles “what they witnessed sent two brothers on a quest for answers 22 years later”
- Oh there it is there’s the SUPERNATURAL noise with the title page ok it was just the pilot that didn’t have it
- Ok we’ve traveled from California to Colorado
- Love the flip phone and game boy in this cold open what a throwback
- Once again genuinely pretty creepy good job supernatural
- Oh that transition out of Sam’s dream made me jump I think my volume is a little too loud
- Aw Dean offers to let Sam drive that’s cute I love watching their relationship emerge
- I love their maps makes me miss maps
- Love watching Dean improvise and figure out who he needs to be to get the information he wants (and figure out what information he wants)
- Her brother looks like a high schooler so like once again I’m asking how old is Haley
- On this rewatch I’m really enjoying watching Sam’s arc of going from almost getting a full ride to the top school in the county to returning to hunting. The way he actually kind of loves it sometimes in a way Dean maybe doesn’t. It’s so tragic because it’s not what he would have chosen and he worked so hard to get away and all of that was taken away because he couldn’t escape his family forever. But at the same time we see from the pilot that he really has fun once he gets into it and hates that he has fun but starts to lean into it and find his niche as the show goes on.
- Ok so Dean introduced them as Sam and Dean and his fake ID says “Samuel Cole” which I looked up and don’t see an obvious origin (like a musician or something) so does that mean this is just a random name Dean picked and that he’s using Sam’s name sometimes when he hunts? Because that hurts.
- Every 23 years nice I love a recurring monster who hibernates
- Noticing that they pretty much never have to work very hard to get information bc they so clearly actually believe the person when nobody else ever has and even if maybe Sam and Dean are full of shit maybe they’re not and this is proof the person they’re interviewing is not crazy. Anyway if that’s not a metaphor idk what is
- “Corporeal”
- I forgot how angry Sam is this season (and a lot of seasons) and honestly he deserves to be angry right now
- Dean’s fragile masculinity lol but also Roy’s fragile masculinity the fragile masculinity of it all
- Ok I’m pretty sure they save the lost brother right like I hope so?
- This is a lot like the x files episode detour where they go into the woods and are hunted my an invisible humanoid but that doesn’t make it less good I loved that episode
- Once again I’m genuinely getting creeped out
- I really don’t like Roy
- Sam and Dean realizing John isn’t here and he wasn’t leaving a clue for them to find him. Realizing he put them on this case to keep them off his trail and set them up to doing his job while he goes on hunting his obsession.
- The fact that Dean sees Sam getting obsessed too and it scares him.
- “Saving people, hunting things, the family business” 😭😭😭
- Dean saying all that anger is going to kill you to Sam and he knows because he’s seen it happening to their dad ugh.
- Friendly reminder as they explain the lore that use of w*ndigos is major cultural appropriation and racist please read link on the title of this post to learn more
- How many do not enter signs can one entrance have
- They really do a good job of making this scary by not showing the scary thing good use of budget there sometimes you don’t need a giant cgi monster for good horror (no hate to giant cgi monsters I just love practical effects).
- The way that neither Sam or Dean are particularly freaked out by almost dying many times in this episode (or last episode if I recall). Sam even after taking a break from hunting presumably for most of the past four years - like that kid left home at 18 why has he had enough near death experiences at this point to be so cool headed in a crisis. Wtf John (I say over and over again throughout this show)
- Ok phew they do save the brother
- The way Dean uses the swagger to cover up everything else
- Again I just feel like this girl is too young but I guess if she’s old enough to be taking care of her younger brothers maybe she isn’t? Whatever what do we expect from supernatural
- Sam’s driving the impala!!!
- This last shot reminds me of my cousin Vinny
I’m doing this watch through as an escapism/nostalgia fueled way to remember a specific time in my life and let myself enjoy a very flawed show. So like as a monster episode this was scary and fun to watch and there was good character development and a good intro to the monster of the week episode format. And at the same time it’s a reminder of rampant casual racism to the point that it was basically thoughtless - I’m sure it just never occurred to the writers that there was anything wrong with using a being from another culture as a monster for Sam and Dean to fight and I’m sure this won’t be the last time they do this.
Chapter 5 Wendigo Part 2
Pairing: Dean x Oc(Nicole)
Word count: 9.8k
The next day the three of us headed toward the forest. I could see Haley, her younger brother, Ben, and an older man I didn't recognize from inside Baby. Ben was carrying a shotgun and all of them were carrying full backpacks. It looked like they were talking but we could hear exactly what they were saying. Whatever they were saying it didn't look like the older man and Haley were agreeing.
Dean parked the impala in front of them. We exited the car and I handed over the duffle bag to Sammy.
"You guys got room for three more?" Dean announced.
I stood in between Sammy and Dean. "Wait, you wanna come with us?" Haley asked, confused.
"Who are these guys?" The older man asked and quite rudely I might add.
Haley turned back to look at the older man, "Apparently, this is all the park service could muster up for the search and rescue." She responded sarcastically.
Sammy headed past everyone while still carrying the duffle bag. I stared at him concerned but decided it was best if I stayed with Dean. "You're rangers?" The man said confused and unbelieving. "Her too?" He said pointing at me.
"That's right," Dean said, answering for us.
I jutted out my hips "What? Is it my dress? Or is it my heels?" I asked sarcastically. I was wearing a red plaid dress with a black belt to give it form, along with my usual black boot heels, and a small black jacket.
"And you're hiking out in biker boots, jeans, a dress, and heels?" Haley asked, rightfully confused.
Dean looked down at himself and turned to look at me. His eyes went up and down my figure. "Well, sweetheart, I don't do shorts," Dean said, walking past them and heading toward Sammy.
"Oh, and for the record I never wear pants. Don't worry I can perfectly hike in my heels so don't worry about me slowing the group down." I said, giving them a fake smile as I walked past them.
"Oh, you think this is funny? It's dangerous backcountry out there. Her brother might be hurt." The older man said to us, irked.
Three of us turned to look at him. "Believe me, I know how dangerous it can be. We just wanna help them find their brother, that's all." Dean explained to him.
Dean and I continued to walk heading past Sammy. I looked behind me and noticed that Sammy had not moved from his position "Sammy! Come on!" I called out to him
We were hiking and wandering through the forest. We found out the older man's name was Roy. Roy was leading the hike with Dean and me directly behind him. Sammy decided to stay behind with Ben.
"So, Roy, you said you did a little hunting," Dean asked, repeating Roys's statement.
"Yeah, more than a little," Roy replied.
"Uh-huh. What kind of furry critters do you hunt?" Dean questioned Roy while his eyes wandered up and down the forest.
"Mostly buck, sometimes bear," Roy answered.
Dean moved and passed Roy "Tell me, Bambi or Yogi ever hunt you back?" Dean mocked. Roy stopped moving.
Roy didn't seem like the type of person to let someone pass him. Unless he intentionally stopped. My eyes flickered toward the floor and I noticed a bear trap.
Before I could say or do anything Roy had already grabbed Dean by the collar. "Whatcha you doing, Roy?" Dean threatened.
I could feel my heart rate speed up. No ranger would have almost fallen into a bear trap. Our cover’s been blown but at least it'll be easier to move around now. I decided it would be best to not say anything and let Dean handle it.
Roy let go of Dean's collar and picked up a stick. He poked the bear trap that Dean almost stepped into. I tried to stay calm and keep a stoic face.
"You should watch where you are stepping, ranger," Roy said with a knowing smile on his face. He dropped the stick and started walking ahead of us.
I hesitantly walked up to Dean, placing a hand on his arm. I could see he had a pout on his face. I turned my face to the floor and tried not to laugh. He felt embarrassed, it was too adorable.
"It was a bear trap." He laughed, turning back to look at Sammy.
We continued hiking. I looped my right arm with Dean´s, behind us I could hear fast and heavy footsteps. It didn't seem heavy enough to be any sort of creature and it was too light to be Sammy.
I turned to my left and saw that Haley had caught up with us "You didn't pack any provisions. You guys are carrying a duffle bag. You're not rangers. So who the hell are you?" She snapped, pulling both Dean and me to look at her.
I could see Ben pass by us. Sammy followed, slightly behind him. He slowed down and stood behind Haley, he looked at us as if his eyes were asking what we wanted him to do. Dean indicates with his expression that he should just walk by.
I pointed in Ben's direction with my thumb hinting at him that he should watch over the young boy. We watched Sammy walk past us before Dean turned back to address Haley.
"Sammy, Nikki, and I are siblings, and we’re looking for our father. He might be here, we don't know. I just figured that you and us, we’re in the same boat." Dean briefly explained.
"Why didn't you just tell me that from the start?" Haley asked.
"I'm telling you now." Dean retorted.
"Ahem, what Dean means to say is that we were worried you wouldn't let us join you had you known that we weren't rangers. We are looking for our father but if you'll allow us we would also like to help you find your brother." I told her, trying to cover up and clarify our situation. She was bound to find out eventually but we couldn't tell her everything.
"That's what you meant by you understood more than I knew, isn't it?" Haley asked me.
I only nodded my head in response. There was a slight pause "Besides, it's probably the most I've ever been honest with a woman…ever. So we okay?" Dean joked. My eyes and mouth widened in shock and surprise. Oh, I wasn't about to let that joke go so easily. I pursed my lips. I was going to enjoy this, oh yes I was.
"Yeah, okay," Haley replied.
"And what do you mean I didn't pack provisions?" Dean said as he pulled out a bag of peanut M&Ms and stuck his hand in the bag as the two of us continued to hike on.
"Ahem." I cleared my throat to gain his attention.
"Mhm," Dean replied with his mouth full of M&Ms.
"Most I've ever been honest with a woman, hmm," I repeated his words.
He nervously chuckled, "I was joking you know that." He mumbled with his mouth still full of M&Ms.
"So either I'm not a woman or you haven't been completely honest with me. Which one do you wanna go with?" I teased him.
"Uhh." He said with a blank expression on his face. It became hard to keep a straight face when he looked so cute.
I burst out laughing, trying to cover my face with my hands. When I finished laughing I turned to look back at him. He looked so confused.
I sighed at his cuteness "Don't worry. I was only teasing you" I giggled, lopping my arms through his as we continued to hike.
I could hear him sigh in relief "I swear you are going to be the death of me, woman."
"Maybe." I chuckled.
Roy continued to lead us, this time with me and Dean at the back. Roy came to a stop "This is it. Blackwater Ridge." Roy said.
Sammy heads past Roy "What coordinates are we at?" He asked.
Roy pulled out a GPS "Thirty-five at minus one-eleven." Roy replied.
Something didn't seem right about this place, there was something off. Dean and I walked up to Sammy. I closed my eyes and focused on my surroundings. There wasn't a single sound. Not a chirp or croak.
"You hear that?" Dean asked as I opened my eyes.
"Yeah. Not even crickets." Sammy responded as we all looked into the woods.
"I'm gonna go take a look around." I heard Roy say.
The three of us turned around "You shouldn't go off by yourself." Sammy advised.
"That's sweet. Don't worry about me." Roy mocked while he waved his gun. He pushed through us and retook the lead.
"All right, everybody stays together. Let's go." Dean said as we continued to walk.
We were all looking around near a large rock when we heard Roy.
"Haley! Over here!" Roy called.
Haley immediately ran towards Roys's voice, with us tailing right behind her. We all came to a stop.
"Oh my god," Haley muttered. We all stood in front of a couple of tents. They were torn open and bloody with all the supplies scattered.
"Looks like a grizzly." Roy voiced.
I looked at Haley. She looked distraught but who could blame her? It looked like a massacre. I stood close to Haley to ensure she wouldn't do something brash. Dean, Haley, and I looked around the tents. There was nothing left untouched. We can only hope Tommy was still alive considering how much blood was on the tent someone must've died.
"Tommy? Tommy!" Haley called out. She took off her backpack and went through the campsite. Sammy and I rushed over to catch up with her.
"Shh." We shushed her.
"Tommy!" She screamed.
"Shh-sh-sh." Sammy hushed.
"Let's not do that again, okay?" I said to Haley.
"Why?" She questioned.
"Something might still be out there." Sammy finished for me.
"Exactly. You can't exactly be too careful out here." I replied.
"Sam! Nicole!" We heard Dean shout. Sammy and I ran over to Dean, once we found him we crouched down next to him.
"The bodies were dragged from the campsite. But here, the tracks just vanish. It's weird." Dean pointed out.
We stood up. "I'll tell you what…It's no Skinwalker or Black dog." Dean said and walked off. Sammy and I lingered to look at the tracks before following suit.
As we walked back to the campsite we saw Haley crouched on the floor and holding something in her hands. I could see tears falling from her eyes. Dean and I kneeled down next to her. The poor girl. I rubbed her back in hopes to give her some sort of comfort. I would try and ease her pains in more supernatural ways but that would leave me too drained to fight.
There was a bloody cell phone in her hands. The back of the phone was open. "Hey, he could still be alive." Dean tried to comfort her.
I squeezed her shoulders "Have faith. We will get him back." I reassured her.
"Help!" We heard a man's voice cry out. Dean and I instantly stood up and looked in the direction of the voice.
We all rushed over to the voice. Dean took out his gun in case. Roy led the way as we all ran to aid the man who was shouting.
"Help me!" The man cried.
When we got there we couldn't find anyone. "It seemed like it was coming from around here, didn't it?" Haley voiced out.
There was something off about this forest. I stood there and listened. There it was again. There wasn't a single sound. Not a rustle of the leaves or crickets. Complete and total silence.
"Everybody back to camp," Sammy ordered.
We all ran back to the campsite but when we got there all of the supplies were missing "Our packs." Haley pointed out.
"This isn't some normal creature. It's smart. It has some form of understanding. It knew that the packs were important or at least useful and stole them while we went off." I thought. I started to think and eliminate what the creature could be. Only so many of them had some form of intelligence or comprehension. "It couldn't be. Could it?" I pondered.
"So much for my GPS and my satellite phone," Roy said as he knelt down to look at the campsite.
"What the hell is going on?" Haley asked.
"It's smart. It wants to cut us off so we can’t call for help." Sammy analyzed.
"You mean someone, some nut job out there just stole all our gear." Roy corrected Sam.
"I don't think that’s the case. Think about it. Do you really think it's such a coincidence that the moment we leave the packs unattended they somehow go missing?" I asked.
I saw Sammy walk up and whisper something to Dean. Soon enough Dean motions for me to follow them. I walked a little faster to catch up to them. We headed a little ways away from the group to have a little privacy.
Once we were far enough and knew that they weren't able to hear us, "Okay. Let me see Dad’s journal." Sammy asked as Dean handed it over. Sammy opened and flipped through the journal until he stopped at a particular page.
"So what is it?" I questioned.
"All right, check that out." Sammy showed us a first nations-style drawing of a Wendigo.
"Oh, come on. Wendigos are in the Minnesota woods or, or northern Michigan. I've never heard of one this far west." Dean said, trying to reason with Sam.
"I don't know Dean. I think I'm with Sammy on this one. I've thought it over and there isn't any other creature that it could be." I explained.
"Think about it, Dean, the claws, the way it can mimic a human voice," Sammy said.
"Great. Well, then this is useless." Dean said as he pulled out his pistol.
Sammy gave Dean back Dad's journal. He headed past us, then stopped for a moment as he turned to face us, "We gotta get these people to safety." Sammy said as he walked off back to the campsite.
"Come on let's head back," I said while patting Dean's shoulder and walking back to the group.
As I got there I heard Sammy say "All right, listen up, it's time to go. Things have gotten…more complicated."
"What?" Haley voiced out.
"Kid, don't worry. Whatever's out there I think I can handle it." Roy said, cockily.
"It's not me I'm worried about. If you shoot this thing, you're just gonna make it mad. We have to leave. Now." Sam ordered.
"One, you're talking nonsense. Two you're in no position to give anybody orders."Roy argued.
"Relax," Dean said in a threatening way.
"We never should have let you come out here in the first place. All right? I'm trying to protect you." Sam explained.
I looked back and forth between Sammy, Roy, and, the two siblings. I could tell that both Sammy and Roy were becoming more and more agitated. From the looks of it, the siblings weren't planning on leaving either.
"You protect me? I was hunting these woods when your mommy was still kissing you goodnight." Roy retorted as he invaded Sam's personal space.
My eyes widened and immediately darted toward Sam. It was easy to see that Roy had struck a nerve. I wasn't ready t get caught in the crossfire just yet so I waited.
"Yeah? It's a damn near-perfect hunter. It's smarter than you, and it's gonna hunt you down and eat you alive unless we get your stupid sorry ass out of here." Sam retaliated as calmly as he could.
"You know your crazy right?" Roy laughed.
"Yeah? You ever hunt a Wen-" Sammy was cut off by Dean pushing him.
I rushed toward them and whispered to Sammy, "Calm down, okay? We don't need them knowing what's out there."
"Roy!" Haley called out.
"Chill out," Dean told Sam.
"Stop. Stop it. Everybody just stops. Look, Tommy might still be alive and I'm not leaving here without him." Haley interrupted getting in between everybody. There was a sense of finality in her voice and I could tell there was no convincing her to leave at least not without her brother. If he's still alive that is.
I looked to Dean and Sam for confirmation and by the look of things, they came to the same conclusion as me.
After a pregnant pause, Dean spoke, "It's getting late. This thing is a good hunter in the day, but an unbelievable hunter at night. Well never beat it, not in the dark. We need to settle and protect ourselves."
"How?" Haley asked.
I gathered some sticks and placed them in the campfire. From the corner of my eye, I could see Dean drawing the symbols in the dirt.
"One more time, that's-" Haley's question was cut short.
"Anasazi symbols. It's for protection. The Wendigo cant cross over them." Dean explained for the nth time.
Roy laughed mockingly with his gun over his shoulder. Dean and I turn to face him "Nobody likes a skeptic, Roy." Dean said.
"Better safe than sorry as they say." I voiced out.
Out of the corner of my eye, I saw Sammy who looked a bit dazed. Dean seemed to notice as well. The two of us headed over to sit down next to Sammy. Dean sat on his left while I sat on his right.
"You wanna tell us what's going on in that freaky head of yours?" Dean asked.
"Dean-" Sammy was cut off.
"No, you're not fine. You're like a powder keg, man, it's not like you. I'm supposed to be the belligerent one, remember?" Dean said trying to comfort Sam.
After a long pause "Dad´s not here, I mean, that much we know for sure, right? He would have left us a message, a sign, right?" Sam murmured.
I could tell he was frustrated that much was evident. I laid my head against his shoulder while rubbing his back trying to bring him some comfort and calm him down. I already had my hands full with Dean I didn't need another reckless brother on my hands.
"Yeah, you're probably right. To tell you the truth, I don't think Dad’s ever been to Lost Creek." Dean admitted.
"Then let's get these people back to town and let's hit the road. Go find Dad. I mean why are we still here." Sam was irked as he hit the ground with a stick.
At those words, Dean moved to sit in front of Sam and me, "This is why." Dean said, showing us Dad's journal.
"This book. This is Dad's single most valuable possession. Everything he knows about every evil thing is in here and he's passed it on to us. I think he wants us to pick up where he's left off. You know, saving people. Hunting things. The family business." Dean explained.
Sammy shook his head, "That makes no sense. Why doesn't he just—call us? Why doesn't he—tell us what he wants, tell us where he is?" He questioned.
"Sammy, believe me when I say I—we don't have all the answers. We are just as lost and confused as you are but there is always a reason. Dad must have his reasons whether we will ever know those reasons is up to Dad." I said trying to comfort him. He must understand that we are here for him and that he isn't the only one seeking answers. We are all in the same boat. We are in this together.
"As Nikki said I dunno but the way I see it, Dad´s giving us a job to do, and I intend to do it." Dean
"Dean, Nikki, no. I gotta find Dad. I gotta find Jessica’s killer. It's the only thing I can think about." Sam said desperately. It wasn't easy seeing him like this. It hurt me so much. I felt my eyes sting with tears and my chest burn.
I wrapped my arms around him and nuzzled my head in his neck. The burning sensation rose into my throat as the tears fell from my face. "Okay, all right, Sam, we'll find them, I promise. Listen to me. You've gotta prepare yourself. I mean this search could take a while, and all that anger, you can't keep it burning over the long haul. It's gonna kill you. You gotta have patience man." Dean explained trying to reason with Sam.
Sam looked down at the ground with tears brimming in his eyes. He looked at Dean and I "How do you guys do it? How does Dad do it" He asked.
I laid my head back on his shoulder. I could see Dean look back at the camp. "Well for one, them," Dean said looking toward Haley and Ben.
Sammy and I followed suit. "I mean, I figure our family's so screwed to hell, maybe we can help some others. Make things a little more bearable." Dean said.
There was a pause of silence as Sammy looked at Haley and Ben. "I'll tell you what else helps." Dean started as Sammy looked back at him.
"Killing as many evil sons of bitches as I possibly can," Dean said which brought a small smile to Sammy's face.
"You know what helps me," I whispered making both of their heads turn to me. "Thinking of you guys. As messed up as our family is I wouldn't trade it for the world. There isn't anywhere else in the world Id rather be than be with you guys." I said softly while bringing the two closer to me. I felt Dean peck my temple and Sammy squeeze my shoulders for a side hug.
"Help me! Please!" We heard someone scream. The three of us immediately stood up and went to patrol the area. Dean and I had guns at the ready while Sammy was shining a flashlight.
"Help!" The voice continued to scream.
"He's trying to draw us out. Just stay cool, stay put." Dean advised.
"Inside the magic circle." Roy mocked.
"Help! Help me ple-" The voice was cut off by an animalistic growl.
"Okay, that's no grizzly," Roy said while pointing his gun toward the sound. Dean and I slowly moved closer in the direction of the sound.
From my peripheral vision, I could see Haley pull her brother closer to her. As she pulled herself and her brother toward the ground I could hear her comforting words "It's okay. You'll be alright. I promise." I wasn't sure if she was trying to reassure herself or her brother more.
We heard something growl and rush past us making Haley shriek in the process. Roy, Dean, and I all had our guns pointed in the general direction of the sound.
"It's here," Sam said.
Before we could do anything Roy started haphazardly shooting in the general direction of the sounds. "I hit it." He exclaimed and started running into the forest to see what he had hit.
"Roy, no, Roy," Dean screamed calling out to the man.
"Stop!" I tried to warn him.
Dean and I turned to Haley and Ben. "Don't move" Dean ordered before running after Roy with Sam.
I decided to stay with Haley and Ben in case the monster decided to come back. I wasn't about to leave them here helpless like sitting ducks. I made sure to keep them close to me.
"Okay, let's move back inside the circle okay," I said calmly while ushering them back to the campsite.
Once we were back inside the circle I seated them both back on the log and took the burning stick from Haley's hand and tossed it back into the campfire.
I sat down next to Haley with my legs crossed and my gun in hand just in case. I could see they were both a little dazed.
After the shock had reeled in and reality started to set in, Haley started to tremble. Ben shifted closer to her and tried to comfort her but nothing seemed to work. "I-that-what-" She stuttered.
"We don't need to talk about it now. It's a lot to take in for both of you. I can tell. It isn't easy, believe me. How about you two try to get some sleep okay? I'll keep watch so you don't need to worry. We're safe here." I said in the softest way possible. They were both terrified and scared. I could feel it in the air.
I had to stay calm. Although I won't be able to touch them, that doesn't mean I still can't influence how they feel. Touching them does make the effect stronger but I can still manipulate the atmosphere around us.
If I stayed calm sooner or later they should feel comfortable enough to get some rest. It took a while but once they felt comfortable enough they leaned next to each other to try and get some rest.
I could feel my eyes drooping. They felt heavy and wanted rest but I had to wait for Sam and Dean first. This wasn't my first rodeo. It felt uncomfortable to be left alone with only the silence and my thoughts to keep me company.
I heard rustling from the leaves along with footsteps. I turned to see Sam and Dean "So? What happened?" I whispered to not wake the two siblings.
I slowly stood up and walked closer to check on them. I pulled Sammy's head to my level and turned his head as I checked for any wounds or scratches.
"Not sure. It was fast and too dark to see anything. Whatever happened all we know is that Roy´s gone." Sammy explained. Once I was sure that he wasn't injured I pulled away and went to check on Dean.
"So what now?" I asked as I inspected Dean's face.
"Would you stop that?" Dean said while pushing my hands off his face to stop me from smothering him.
"Well sue me I can't be worried about my boyfriend anymore?" I sassed and jutted out my hip with my arms crossed over my chest. In the background, I could hear Sammy snicker at our bickering.
I turned around to look at Sammy, "And what's so funny Mr?" I asked with a small smile on my face.
Sammy cleared his throat trying to compose himself "Nothing, nothing, just uh-anyway best course of action is to wait for daylight yeah hm." He said awkwardly.
"Sammy's right we should get some rest then first thing in the morning we go kill that evil son of a bitch." Dean said.
"What are we going to do about those two?" I asked as I turned to point toward the sleeping siblings.
"I'm not sure but chances are they aren´t leaving anytime soon," Sammy said moving to sit down on a log.
"And the wendigo?" I asked as I took a seat next to Sam.
"Well our equipment is practically useless but I'm sure we can figure something out," Dean said plopping down to my left.
I laid my head on Dean's shoulder as my eyes started to droop. I felt Dean pull me closer as he placed his head on top of mine and his hand on my waist. I tugged Sammy's hand and pointed toward my shoulder. Before I knew it I felt a weight on my shoulder.
"Goodnight I love you, boys," I whispered before I let my heavy eyelids drop. I pray that tomorrow will be easier. That was the last thought I had before I let sleep take over my body.
When I woke up the boys were already gone and I was lying down on the ground with Dean's jacket over my shoulders. I sat up looking up at the sky. It was still a little dark so I could only assume it was around five to six in the morning. I slowly stood up to look for Sam and Dean.
As I dusted myself I turned to see that the two siblings were still asleep. At least they had a good night's sleep. Once I finished cleaning myself I strolled around the camp in search of the two boys.
I walked around with Dean's jacket over my shoulders. I strolled around aimlessly until I saw a small mop of brown hair sticking up from a stump. I quietly tiptoed my way to Sammy. Once I was close enough I jerked his shoulders to scare him.
He turned around and glared at me, "Not funny." He muttered.
"Aw, I'm sorry I couldn't help myself but you should be more aware of your surroundings," I said as I slowly slid down to sit next to him.
I saw that he had dad's journal in his hands as he stared off into space. I bumped against his shoulder to gain his attention, "Hey, what's wrong?" I asked.
"Nothing, just thinking." He replied.
"Sammy I know you better than that what's really bothering you," I asked him again.
"I just can't help but think about Jess and dad and-" He sighed, cutting himself off.
I leaned against him "Hey, it's okay. You're under a lot of stress. I'm not gonna force you to talk if you don't want to but Dean and I are here if you need us okay? You're not alone. We're facing this together as a family." I tried consoling him.
"Yeah." He murmured.
"I'm gonna go look for Dean wanna come with?" I offered as I stood up, dusted my clothes, and pointed in the direction of the campsite.
"No thanks. I'm gonna stay here for a little longer." He answered.
"Okay." I rubbed his shoulder as I turned to leave.
I walked back toward the camp and saw Dean surveying the area. I pulled his jacket closer to me as I neared him.
I leaned against a tree while I watched him walk around the bloodied campsite without his jacket. It was an odd sight, to say the least. It was rare for me for anyone really to see him without his jacket outside.
"You know I don't like waking up alone," I whispered from behind him.
"Well, you looked like you needed the extra sleep, and did I mention you look so much better with that jacket on." He said, as turned to look at me and proceeded to walk closer to me.
He wrapped his arms around my waist and pulled me closer as I instinctively snaked my arms around his neck. "That's beside the point. It doesn't matter if I needed more sleep, what matters is that we get those people to safety and I think you look much better with your jacket on." I replied as I took the jacket off my shoulders and helped him put on his jacket.
"Whatever you say, sweetheart." He retorted as he continued to survey the campsite.
After an hour had passed both of the siblings were awake and they were seated in the campsite among the tents as Dean and I inspected every corner.
"I don't...I mean, these types of things, they aren't supposed to be real." Haley stammered.
"I wish I could tell you different," Dean said nonchalantly as he walked toward her to face her. While I continued to look for useful materials around the camp.
Unfortunately, Dean and I could only find an empty beer bottle. Without any lighter fluid, everything else was useless. For now, we could only scrummage around until we find some sort of flammable liquid.
"How do we know it's not out there watching us?" I heard Haley ask.
"We don't but we're safe for now," Dean replied.
"How do you know about this stuff?" She questioned.
I stopped my search for a moment. I turned to look at both Dean and Haley. I saw Dean pause and consider his options before answering "Kind of runs in the family." Dean said before walking away.
As my eyes flickered between Dean and Haley I almost tripped and fell on my face. I was walking without paying attention. Thankfully I caught myself with a tree. I looked down to see what nearly tripped me. I saw that it was a can. I curiously picked it up to inspect it. It was a canister of lighter fluid.
"What are the chances of that!?" I thought incredulously as my eyes widened.
"Hey." I heard Sammy say from behind me. I turned around to walk toward the group with the container in my hand.
"So we've got half a chance in the daylight. And I, for one...wanna kill this evil son of a bitch." Sammy breathed out bitterly.
"Well, hell, you know I'm in," Dean replied.
"And you sure as hell ain't leaving me out here." I sassed with a cheeky smile on my face and my hands on my hips.
Sammy pulled out Dad's journal. While he flipped through the journal I walked over to Dean to show him my find.
I tapped him on the shoulder to gain his attention. "Look what I found," I said as I gently shook the lighter fluid.
He took it in his hand "Good job how'd you find it?" He whispered as he caressed my head.
"Let's not talk about that," I murmured turning my head to hide my embarrassment. Thankfully he didn't question me further.
"Wendigo is a Cree Indian word. It means evil that devours." Sammy read off the journal as he showed Haley and Ben.
"They're hundreds of years old. Each one was once a man. Sometimes an Indian, or other times a frontiersman or a miner or hunter." Dean explained as he walked past the two siblings with the canister in hand.
"How's a man turn into one of those things?" Haley asked.
"Well, it's always the same. During some harsh winter, a guy finds himself starving, cut off from supplies or help. Becomes a cannibal to survive, eating other members of his tribe or camp." Dean answered as he picked up a couple of things off the ground.
"Like the Donner Party," Ben commented.
"Poor creatures really. Truly is a shame that we can't do more for them." I sighed as I placed my hands on my face.
"Cultures all over the world believe that eating human flesh gives a person certain abilities. Speed, strength, immortality." Sammy elaborated.
"If you eat enough of it, over years, you become this less-than-human thing. You're always hungry." Dean explained.
"So if that's true, how can Tommy still be alive?" Haley asked.
I cringed away not wanting to tell her the answer. "You're not gonna like it," Dean warned her as he glanced at Sam and me before turning back to look at Haley.
"Tell me." Haley insisted.
"More than anything, a wendigo knows how to last long winters without food. It hibernates for years at a time, but when it's awake it keeps its victims alive. It, uh, it stores them, so it can feed whenever it wants. If your brother´s alive, it's keeping him somewhere dark, hidden, and safe. We gotta track it back here." Dean answered.
"And then how do we stop it?" She questioned.
"Well, guns are useless, so are knives. Basically, we gotta torch the sucker." Dean said as he held up the can of lighter fluid, a beer bottle, and the white cloth.
Dean, Sam, and I were planning our next course of action while Haley and Ben were seated behind us on a log, waiting
"Why are we sitting around and doing nothing while Tommy could still be out there!" I heard Haley exclaim from behind us.
Before Dean or Sam could move a muscle I placed my hands on either of their shoulders "I'll handle this. I'm sure you two can take care of the rest without me." I whispered as I walked past them and moved toward Haley.
"Haley, I understand how you feel but we can't just start walking around without a plan." I calmly explained.
"But-" I cut her off before she could start.
"We want you and your brother as safe as possible. We need to be cautious because frankly, we are stuck here without any necessary supplies. What we need right now is not to panic but to think logically." I told her with a stoic expression on my face with hopes that if I stayed calm she would follow suit.
I placed a hand on her shoulder to try and comfort her "I know you're worried about Tommy but right now you need to be strong for your brother that's right here. He needs you just as much as Tommy. I know it's a lot to ask, believe me, I do." I said as I motioned for her to take a seat next to Ben.
I took a deep breath and started rubbing her shoulder, as I concentrated on taking away her stress. "We'll be moving soon, okay? We just needed a little time to prepare." I said as I saw her take a deep breath.
I lifted my hand off her shoulder as she moved closer to Ben. "What is he doing?" Haley asked as she looked at Dean.
I was caught off guard by her question. "A-uh molotov cocktail." I stuttered.
"A what?" Haley questioned.
"A molotov cocktail. It's a hand-thrown incendiary weapon. In simpler terms, it's a weapon designed to cause a fire. It's usually made of a frangible container filled with a flammable liquid and a fuse. Because of their relative ease of production, they are commonly used by criminals and rioters." I explained.
I wasn't sure if she fully understood what I said or if she was even listening at all but I knew that more often than not when civilians get involved in our world they go into a state of shock and dysphoria. Especially since all of this happened over a short period of time because of that some people like to focus on tiny details to distract themselves from the current situation. This doesn't only happen when people get involved with the supernatural this happens in all sorts of stressful situations. I could only hope that this was some form of distraction for her to ease her mind.
I stood up and dusted off my dress. I walked over to Dean and Sam when I noticed Dean had finished. "Are we ready to go?" I queried.
Dean was leading the way as we walked through the forest with the molotov cocktail in his hand. We followed a trail of claw marks and blood on the trees.
I walked behind Haley and Ben as I looked at the trees. I couldn't help but get an uneasy feeling as I trailed behind.
"Dean, Nicole" I heard Sammy call from in front of the group.
Dean and I caught up with Sammy to see what he was looking at "What is it?" Dean asked as we stopped behind Sammy.
I caught Sammy's gaze and looked up to see a plethora of bloody claw marks and broken branches everywhere surrounding us. As I stared at the trees I couldn't help but break into a cold sweat.
"Guys I have a bad feeling about this," I muttered as I shuffled toward Dean to calm myself down.
"You know, I was thinking, those claw prints, so clear and distinct. They were almost too easy to follow." Sammy scoffed.
As soon as Sammy finished his sentence I could hear growling all around us in different directions. This wendigo was smarter than we gave it credit for. It led us with a trail of claw marks and blood into a trap where it could surround us. In every direction, my head turned there was another growl and a rustle in the bushes.
I immediately moved in front of Haley as I saw that she was further away from us. As I stood in front of Haley I felt something drip onto my shoulder. I whipped my head to look at the red splotches on my shoulder. I slowly tilted my head upward to see a body dangling from the tree.
I could hear Haley scream from behind me as the body started falling toward us. I took her arm and pulled us out of the way of the plunging body. We tripped and fell as the body landed in front of us. I landed on my bottom with Haley on my lap.
I glanced at the body and my eyes widened when I saw Roys's face. Even though I didn't like him, no one deserved to die like this. Dean dashed to examine his body while Sammy rushed toward Haley and me.
"You two okay? You got it?" Sammy asked as he helped Haley and me get up.
"Damn it, His neck´s broke." As Dean said that more growling came from the bushes.
"All right, come on," Sammy said trying to comfort Haley as he helped her.
"Okay, run, run, run! Go, go, go!" Dean ordered while he placed his hand on my back to guide me as we ran.
We ran as fast as we could through the forest and soon enough we were all running on our own instead of as a group. I ran faster and faster and I could feel my legs start to burn, blood rushing to my ears and pure survival instinct kicked in.
I could no longer see Dean, Sam, Haley, or Ben, I came to a halting stop once I realized I was alone. My chest was heaving as I breathed. I was basically screwed. I was alone with no weapon. I took a deep breath to calm myself down. Panicking would only make things worse.
Even though I was alone I couldn't hear or feel anything ominous around me which was a good sign. I weighed my options.
"On one hand screaming for help would only put me at more risk. Sam and Dean might hear me if I called for help but I would also risk calling the Wendigo. But I can't just wait here like a sitting duck either." I thought as I pulled my hair in frustration.
"My best course of action right now is to start retracing my steps in hopes that I didn't get too far away from the others." I thought to myself as I started to walk back in the opposite direction.
As I continued to walk I couldn't help but think about what happened to the others. I could only hope they were alright. As I walked I heard a familiar voice laugh from a distance and say "...than breadcrumbs"
"Sammy! Sammy!" I called out as I sprinted in the direction of the voice.
"Nikki!" I heard him call out and soon enough I saw a walking sasquatch with a mop of brown hair.
"Sammy! Oh, thank god your okay!" I exclaimed as I ran up to squeeze the life out of him. I felt him wrap his arms around me and place his head over my own.
"We thought you were taken by the wendigo too," Sammy whispered as he held me tighter.
It took me a second to comprehend his sentence. "Wait, what do you mean ´too´?" I asked as I moved out of his arms to look at his face.
"I tripped as we ran away and Sam came back to help me. Haley and Dean were up ahead and before we could reach them we heard Haley scream. By the time that we got there, all there was left was that." I looked at Ben from behind Sammy as he explained and pointed toward the molotov cocktail in Sammy's hand.
"I'm sorry." Ben apologized with his eyes downcasted.
I slowly walked over to him and wrapped my arms around him. "No, no, you did nothing wrong. I'm just glad you two are safe. We´ll find your brother and your sister okay." I told him as I hugged him.
"So do you guys have any idea of where they could've gone?" I asked as I turned to look at Sam.
"They went in that direction," Sammy said, pointing at a trail of M&Ms.
I laughed as I walked toward the trail of colorfully candy-coated chocolate. "What are we waiting for? Hansel and Gretel are waiting for us." I chuckled as I followed the trail of M&Ms.
We continued to follow the trail and we ended up in front of a mine entrance. The mine seemed to be abandoned with trees, mold, and moss overrunning the entrance. As we walked closer I noticed the entrance was slightly barricaded and closed off with a bright red sign on it.
It read, "WARNING! DANGER! DO NOT ENTER EXTREMELY TOXIC MATERIAL."
Sam who was in front walked closer to inspect the opening with Ben and me right behind him. "Well, that doesn't bode well," I muttered under my breath as I looked at the sign.
Sam turns to look at Ben and me. He shrugs and goes inside. Ben followed suit while I entered slowly as I read a larger sign above the opening which read "KEEP OUT NO ADMITTANCE."
As we walked further into the mine, the darker it got. Sam led us with a flashlight in hand. With Ben in front of me, I could barely see anything but I could feel a rail underneath my feet as we walked through the dark and damp tunnel.
As we trudged along, a growl caught our attention. I could feel shivers go down my spine as I heard the growl. I immediately stopped walking as Sam turned off the flashlight. Before I knew it the three of us had our backs pressed up against the wall. I took a deep breath to calm myself as the wendigo walked closer toward us. Sam and I covered Ben's mouth before he could scream.
Thankfully the wendigo turned and walked in another direction. As we breathed out a sigh of relief, I turned to look at Ben.
"You okay?" I asked Ben.
"Y-yeah." He stuttered.
"You don't need to be afraid as long as we´re here," I whispered and I placed my hand on his shoulder as we kept walking.
Sam, Ben, and I kept on going through the mine. With Ben and Sam ahead of me, I suddenly heard some creaking.
I turned to look down at the source of the sound. Although I could barely see, I saw that the surface that Sam and Ben were standing on wasn't ground at all but old wooden planks.
Before I knew it Sam and Ben had fallen through the floorboards. I immediately crouched down and looked through the massive hole in the floor. It was pitched black and I couldn't see a thing.
I held my breath as I waited for a sign that they were okay. Before long I could hear vaguely hear Sammy.
"Hey, it's okay, it's okay, it's okay." I sighed in relief as I heard Sammy supposedly trying to calm Ben down.
I could hear shuffling and footsteps as I heard an echo of someone calling Dean from below the pit.
"Sammy! Ben! Are you two okay?! Are they down there!?" I yelled in hopes that they could hear me.
"We're fine! Are you okay?!" I heard Sammy reply.
"I'm fine but are Dean and Haley down there?!" I asked.
"They're here! Can you get down by yourself?" Sammy questioned.
"I'm not sure!" I answered.
"It's okay I'll catch you," Sammy responded.
"Okay! I'm going to jump in three, two, one!" I shouted as I jumped into the hole.
Before I knew it Sammy had caught me in his arms before I could hit the ground. As Sammy placed my feet on the ground I gasped as I saw Dean and Haley hanging by their wrists from the ceiling.
I instantly rushed over to Dean with Sammy not far behind me. I cupped his face with my hands and inspected his face.
"Dean, Dean, Dee. Come on wake up!" I hastily said as I continuously lightly slapped his face.
Sammy lightly pushed me aside as he grabbed Dean by the shoulders and shook him as he exclaimed, "Dean!"
Deans's eyes shot open and I immediately flung myself onto him.
"Thank heavens you are alright!" I exclaimed as I peppered his face with kisses.
"Hey, you okay?" Sammy asked Dean.
"Yeah." Dean winced in pain.
"But maybe I should get kidnapped more often if-" I cut him off as I lightly smacked his face.
"That was for getting kidnapped in the first place and this-" I whispered as I kissed him, "Was for staying alive."
"Haley, Haley, wake up, wake up!" I heard Ben trying to wake up Haley. Hearing Ben brought me back to my senses.
"Sammy help me get them down," I said as I crouched down to get two small daggers from my ankle boots.
I passed one to Sam as I helped Ben get Haley down from the ceiling.
"Gotcha," Sammy said, cutting Dean down, as Dean groaned in pain.
"Atta girl." I struggled to breathe out from the sudden weight of catching Haley.
As Sammy carried Dean I could hear him whisper, "We thought it killed you."
The three of us helped them over to an empty patch on the floor and gently sat them down. Once I had gotten Haley onto the floor I left Ben to tend to her as I rushed over to Sam and Dean.
"You sure you're alright?" Sammy questioned Dean as he continued to groan in pain.
"Yeah. Yep. Where is he?" Dean grimaced as he asked. I kneeled down beside him and caressed his cheek. It was obvious he was still in pain but I decide to not mention it.
"Aw, my poor baby." I sighed in a soft voice as I pouted.
"It's gone for now," Sammy replied.
I could see from the corner of my eye, while I was helping Dean get his wrists untied, that Haley had divested herself of the rope. She stood up with the help of Ben. I turned my head to see where they were walking to and behind me I saw another man still hanging from the ceiling.
As she stood there with Ben I could hear her quietly sob, "Tommy…"
I slowly got up to comfort her as she placed a hand on Tommy's cheek. Before I could reach her Toms's head jerked up. Scaring both Haley and me. Haley jumped back and shrieked. I placed a hand on my heart as I tried to calm myself down.
She turned to Sam and me as she screamed, "Cut him down!"
I gestured for Sammy to follow me as I walked toward Tommy to cut him down with my dagger. Sammy caught him as I cut him down.
We slowly laid him down as he breathed out, "Man."
"We're going to get you home." I heard Haley tell Tommy.
I turned to see Dean struggling to get up from the floor. I hurried over to support him as he stood up. In a corner, there was a pile of supplies. Dean leaned over to pick up a flare gun.
"Check it out." Dean turned around to show Sammy our findings.
"Flare guns. Those’ll work." Sammy grinned as Dean smiled and twirled the guns in his hand.
We headed down a tunnel, Dean and I were in the lead with a flare gun in each of our hands while Sammy assisted Haley in carrying Tommy. Out of the blue, we heard growling from further in the mineshaft.
"Oh hell nah," I murmured under my breath.
"Looks like someone's home for supper," Dean said.
"We’ll never outrun it." Haley voiced out as Dean and I turned back to look at her.
Dean glanced at Sammy and me, "You guys thinking what I’m thinking."
"Unfortunately," I muttered.
"Yeah I think so," Sammy replied.
"All right, listen to me. Stay with Sam and Nicole. They're gonna get you out of here." Dean ordered.
"What are you going to do?" Haley asked.
"Something stupid." I retorted, "And you better not die on me, or else I will kill you." I threatened as I grabbed his arm.
"I got this." Dean winked as he gave me a quick peck on the lips.
I watched him start to walk away and yell, "Chow time, you freaky bastard! Yeah, that's right, bring it on, baby, I taste good!"
Soon enough the rest of Deans's words become indistinguishable. Sammy and I waited for a couple of seconds until we were sure Dean was a safe distance away from us.
Sammy walks in a different direction and calls out, "All right, come on! Hurry!" Sammy leads the way with the Collinses and me not far behind him.
The five of us hurried down a tunnel before we started hearing growling again. Sammy pointed the gun in the direction of the growling. He lowered the gun and turned back to look at us.
"Nikki, get them outta here." He ordered.
I looked him straight in the eyes and I could immediately tell he wasn't going to budge.
"Sam-" I cut Haley off before she could continue.
"Got it. Come on, let's get you guys out of here." I ordered as I tried to usher them.
"Go! Go! Go!" Sam yelled.
"Come on, Haley!" Ben called Haley as they helped Tom walk along the mine tunnel. I lingered back and turned to look at Sam.
I placed a hand on his shoulder and looked him in the eyes, "Stay safe." I whispered before rushing to catch up with the three siblings.
As we scrambled through the tunnel I couldn't help but look back. A part of me wanted to run back to help him but I knew that would only put all of us in danger. I tried to help Haley and Ben carry Tom as much as possible. I couldn't help but feel frustrated at this rate were all going to get eaten.
It wasn't long until I heard loud thumping footsteps from behind us. Haley and I leaned over to see Sam running toward us.
"Sam!" Haley and I exclaimed simultaneously.
"Come on, hurry. Hurry! Hurry! Let's go." Sam yelled as he caught up with us and ushered us.
The four of us ran as fast as we could with the wendigo right behind us. We ran until we hit a dead end.
"No! Damn. Get behind me." Sam ordered. The Collinses hid behind him but I refused to hide. I stood beside him and covered the Collinses as much as I could.
I could see Sammy clench his jaw as the wendigo slowly approached us, taking its time. I could feel my heart in my throat as it go closer. Out of the blue, I saw Dean come up from behind the wendigo.
"Hey!" Dean called out and the wendigo turned around but before it could do anything Dean shot it in the stomach.
The flare goes off and the wendigo gets engulfed by the flames. Before long it would only be a pile of ashes.
"Not bad, huh?" Dean retorted.
From the corner of my eye, I saw Sammy grin. When the fire died down I immediately jumped into his arms.
I sighed as I inhaled his scent, "Always in the nick of time, eh?" I beamed at him. I felt him wrap his arms around me as I snuggled deeper into his chest.
We were finally out of the mine and at the ranger's station. Sammy and Ben dealt with the police officers while I decided to stay with Dean and Haley as the paramedics patched them up. I was standing in between Dean and Haley as we walked toward Baby while they loaded Tom into the ambulance.
Once we reached Baby, I sighed and laid my head on Deans's shoulder, "I'm so tired." I mumbled with my eyes closed. I could feel him wrap an arm around my shoulder and place a kiss on my forehead.
I heard Haley cough. I opened my eyes to look at her, "So..." She trailed off as she gestured towards Dean and me with her eyes.
I lifted my head off his shoulder and straighten my back, "I'm adopted." I answered.
"Ah." She whispered.
"It's, uh, complicated. But my parents past away a long time ago and their dad took me in." I explained.
"You two are-" I cut her off.
"Together." I finished.
After a long pause, "So really, I don't know how to thank both of you." She said.
I turned to see Dean smirking at Haley while she and I just laughed.
"Must you cheapen the moment? Nicole is literally beside you." She smiled
"Sorry about him, he's just a natural flirt. You learn to get used to it. What he's trying to say is that your safety is thanks enough." I said after I composed myself.
A paramedic came up to Haley, "You riding with your brother?" She asked
"Yeah," Haley replied.
The paramedic headed back to the ambulance as Ben and Sammy walked up to us.
"Let's go." Haley turned to tell Ben.
Haley hugged me, "Thank you, for everything, I hope you find your father." She said as she pulled back.
She walked and wrapped an arm around Ben as they headed for the ambulance.
"Thanks, Sam." She said as they passed by him.
Sammy sat next to me on the hood of the impala as we watched Haley and Ben climb in the ambulance with Tom, who was shirtless and bandaged.
"Close her up." We heard a paramedic say as another paramedic went to close the doors.
"Man, I hate camping," Dean said.
"Me too," Sam responded.
"Me three." I sighed as I laid my head on Deans's shoulder again. We could hear the sirens of the ambulance wailing as it drove away.
"Sam, you know we're gonna find Dad, right?" Dean reassured Sammy.
"Yeah, I know. But in the meantime...I'm driving." Sam whispered.
I snickered as I watched Dean toss the keys to Sammy, "I call shotgun!" I yelled before Dean could get into the car.
"Aw, come on!" He grumbled with a small smile as Sammy and I got into Baby.
I put my head outside the window and called to him, "What are you waiting for lover boy!"
He reluctantly walked into the backseat with a pout on his face. I turned around and placed a hand on his cheek as Baby purred to life.
I pulled his face closer to kiss him as I heard Sammy gag in the background, "No more pouty face okay."
I sat back in my chair and looked at Sammy, "And what are you five?" I sassed.
Sammy chuckled in response, "Just drive." I giggled and lightly shoved him.
I snuggled into the chair as Sammy drove off and closed my eyes to doze off.
Haley i thought you were in Wisconsin. What’re you doing here? Sam told me what you did...The Malak box for Michael. It’s the only option. There’s no other way to make sure… Yeah, I mean it’s not like you’re the one who has to stay here and wonder if you’ve drowned or suffocated or shot yourself just to kill the monster in your head. That’s on Sam and me. I’m not doing that again, Dean. You don’t get to ask me to do that again, the last time I did I almost killed myself. Haley, I…
If you decide to do this, that’s fine. But I quit. I will force Castiel to white wash my memories of everything; of you, our daughter, of Sam, everything.
