I want Ozzie and Fizz to adopt that deaf Imp.
I don't care if he has parents, I want that kid to be happy.

It's ironic almost that Viv shoves "rep" into her shows and went out of her way to include a deaf child at an adult sex circus show for said "rep" but like. Fuck people with visual disabilities right? Because neither of those shows have considered how people with colorblindness or even mild visual impairment might not be able to even WATCH the shows with how bad their colour balancing is.
Viv has completely ignored that having unique designs and color palettes for your world and characters is not only basic design for cartoons but also how you maybe your show accessible to those who struggle visually
Funny you ask me that, I actually already made a post about that signing scene and distracting captioner's notes, because I have a hearing disorder and wanted to add my two cents.
I can't get over the fact the it wasn't a teenager around the age Fizz was when he went to that show with Blitzø. I genuinely can't think why they decided to have a young child be the fan other than it being more wholesome because it was a child.
Think for a second about why this scene there. Fizz was spiraling, consumed by thoughs of not being enough and being a "fake, sellout jester". He himself was a disabled teenager who wanted to be the greatest clown of his times. He ended up as a fake, sellout jester, just like Blitz said. But he saw himself in that kid. He saw for who really he wanted to perform. I don't think it would be as impactful to him if it was regular imp, but this would make infinitely more sense, on so many levels, if this was a teenager. But no, we gotta have a freaking child, because it's just way more cuter that way, right? I genuinely don't understand what other possible reasons for why this was a child, and not a teenager, could be.
I'm also still not over the fucking captions. I had problems with following what was happening in S02E06 of Helluva Boss, because of weirdly described sounds and big chunks of captioner's notes and jokes. That's unacceptable.
The irony of literally being an asshole to deaf/HoH people by purposeful fucking up the caption, the thing we rely on to be able watch a show, only to "give" a representation to said group next episode is almost funny.
But going back to the visuals, yes, it's so hard to watch. HB is better than Hazbin, but both aren't great if you have any sort of vision disorder, and this is coming from someone who just have the regular stuff, shortsightedness, astigmatism etc. The legally blind and colourblind folks must have it hard. HH is a joke when it comes to any sort of contrast. Even if they decided to stick to red(-ish) colours, there's still so much shades to work with. It isn't a impossible to make monochromatic art. In fact it's actually a popular training tool for young artists to learn how to do it even when you have more colours.
Here's some examples of monochromatic and mostly monochromatic art done right.
Now compare one of them with a screenshots from HH, both without saturation (black and white).
Hazbin Hotel isn't even monochromatic and fails miserably at any contrast. So no, it isn't just the problem of lack of hue (colour) differentces, it overall just failed at colour and contrast balancing, especially in the hotel, and there's no defending HH on this, because you have three sliders god damnit!

I think that charlie should worry more about the hellborns, you know,HER REAL PEOPLE WHO ARE ENSLAVED,FETISHIZED AND REALLY DESERVING OF RIGHTS,in helluva boss we see imps that are good persons(moxxie, moxxies mom, tilla, fizzarolli, oliver(the deaf kid) and others)or lived in poor life conditions and had to grow really fast(blitz, striker, barbie, the wrath imps that literally make all the harvest for hell),they should be Charlie's priority, make imps have more rights to have honorable Jobs, treat them like PEOPLE and not workers, but nooo the killers, psychopats, rapists, child abusers and other criminals deserves rights😤
Fr!
I mean, I understand that Charlie has a special sympathy for sinners because they are murdered once a year (although honestly they probably kill each other more than by exterminations) and the pride ring is where she GREW UP, but still the fact that she only seems to care about SINNERS (people who did VERY FUCKING shit to end up in Hell) than about the Hellborn who LITERALLY were the ones who laid the foundations of Hell.
I MEAN, THE OVERLORDS/ SINNERS FOR SOME REASON ARE SEEN AS A SUPERIOR CLASS THAN THE IMPS AND SUCCUBES FOR NO REASON?? THEY WERE BORN THERE AND GENERATED THE INFERNAL SOCIETY, GIVE THEM SOME FUCKING RESPECT??
Besides, don't you think it's WEIRD that in the pride ring WE RARELY SEE HELLBORNS?? Yes, it could be because of the great insecurity of the ring, but honestly Greed seems MUCH MORE DANGEROUS than the ring with literally KILLERS, maybe it is because, I don't know, SINNERS HAVE SOMETHING TO DO WITH IT??? KNOWING HOW THEY ARE WITH THE BLACK MARKET ISSUE???
AND THE FETISHIZATION MY GOD, I don't want to imagine how the sinners ENJOY it using the slightly higher status they have over the Imps/Hellwounds/Succubi to make their lives EVEN MORE MISERABLE.
Charlie pushes them aside just to give attention to the SINNERS, people who mostly don't even make it to the century there and are VERY weird (like Zestial) instead of the people who SUFFER for this status distinction (like, I don't know, THE PEOPLE WHO ARE POTENTIALLY IN HEAVEN BECAUSE SINNERS KILLED THEM?? OR WORSE?? AND YET SHE DOESN'T SEEM TO CARE ABOUT THIS??)
In conclusion, Charlie should AT LEAST be concerned exclusively with people who did bad acts but in circumstances that JUSTIFY them (self-defense, revenge, minor sins such as not being baptized according to the Bible or being an atheist, PEOPLE WHO REALLY WOULD NOT DESERVE PUNISHMENT ETERNAL) AND PRIORITIZE the safety of her REAL PEOPLE.
____

Hold on I just realized something about the new chapter of Helluva Boss and I didn’t until I read some posts
ISNT FIZZAROLLI A SEX ICON OR SOME SHIT LIKE THAT?! WHAT WAS THAT KID DOING THERE, I- WHAT??
Vivzie let get me understand this shit. You made a deaf character, who was a kid, and say kid was fan of Fizz, but as far as I know, that fucking show wasn’t kid friendly at all and either is Fizz because somehow people? imps? who want to fuck him and that guy had tons of sexual merch
Wtf is this shit??? Man this lady definitely doesn’t know what she is doing, not wonder why the scene was controversial (obviously not by this reason, but get my point, something wrong was there)
#heart talks#helluva boss critical#vivziepop critical#well hello. I wasn’t plan to talk about the episode but here we are

Literally no one is talking about this (that I’ve seen anyway) and the episode is old now but I can’t stop thinking about it so I’m making a post anyway.
This is about the scene in Helluva Boss season 2 episode 7 “Mammon’s Magnificent Musical Mid-Season Special” where a young imp and Fizzarolli sign to each other.
TLDR: The signing is wonky and the scene feels unearned.
DISCLAIMER: I AM NOT DEAF AND NOT AN ASL EXPERT. THIS IS JUST MY INTERPRETATION OF THIS SCENE. I DO NOT SPEAK FOR DEAF OR HOH PEOPLES’ OPINIONS.
Right. So, surface level, what do the writers *want* to have the signing mean? What is their desired English sentiment?
Kid: Fizzarolli! I’m a big fan!
Fizz: Come on over here
Kid: I want to be a clown just like you!
Fizz: You can do anything you want to do.
Cool, great. Now, what did they actually sign? DISCLAIMER 2: THERE IS NO WRITTEN FORM OF ASL, ASL CAN BE SORT OF TRANSCRIBED IN ENGLISH BUT IT IS NOT WRITTEN ASL.
Kid: F-CLOWN (name sign, “Fizzarolli”) I BIG FAN.
Fizz: [Gesture to come over]
Kid: CLOWN SAME-AS-YOU.
Fizz: IF/SUPPOSE WANT, CAN-aff WORK.
On the most basic level, this is fine. It more-or-less represents what the writers wanted to be said. But it’s just…not great. It’s so simple compared to what the writers wanted to say. It makes the translation put up on screen look wrong.
The kid makes no indication that they “want” to be a clown, they could very well have been meaning that they currently ARE a clown, maybe even in training. There was no indication of “becoming” or a future signifier. There was a general lack of pronouns making it sound vague. The final sentiment from Fizz is much more grounded than what the writers wanted him to say. “You can do anything!” vs “you could work as a clown if you wanted to.” The difference speaks for itself.
There ARE signs for the sentiment they want to convey!!! They exist!!! LOOK: https://youtu.be/JbfWzc0-R6E?si=FxvbC9l-hvArLPg0
youtube
“But wait!” I hear you say. “What if they got the signs first and mistranslated it?”
Since this is an English show for English speakers that must be written in English, no. They wrote the translation first and put mediocre signing in the episode.
Could the sentiment have been gutted for time/animation constraints? Quite possibly! But we’ve seen the kinds of shots the Helluva team can pull off (Striker’s 3/4 turn with the pistol, DHORKs full camera action spin, to name a few) so I don’t doubt they COULD have animated the signing appropriately if they wanted to.
Now, they did have an ASL consultant for this episode (the bare minimum we love to see it, AND on the very last page of credits? wow), his name is Salvador Baltazar. There’s not much out there on him, but he’s primarily an interpreter. There is no way to know what he helped with or how much he dictated the scene and I don’t plan on wildly speculating. It’s great that he’s there, why did he let this signing air the way it did though.
Finally, what’s the purpose of this scene? Why is it here? Why these characters in this situation?
More competent analysts than I have picked apart the woobification of Helluva characters and how, once they’re not a villain anymore, their characterization and morals get completely overhauled to appeal to the “oh he’s so traumatized!” crowd.
I think this scene is a part of that. And it got its desired reaction.
Seeing celebrities interact well with children is already something that would net a character some popularity brownie points. If that child is clearly an “other” and the celebrity does something special to recognize that child? Brownie fucking bakeries.
The purpose of this scene is to show that not all of Fizz’s fans suck, yes, but also to show how kind and nice and thoughtful Fizz is just to hammer home how TragicTM his situation is.
And the fans went wild!!!! Here is a character putting in effort to learn ASL and speak with child fans! Wow he’s so great! He’s so amazing! What Herculean tasks he’s taken upon himself to be so cool! Wow! (Not everyone says it like that, but that was the general vibe of the Helluva tag following the episode’s release).
It got fans speculating; “I wonder if this ties into his Tragic BackstoryTM!” We’ll probably never know because Fizz’s fluency in ASL, his role in the Deaf community, is not something the writers care about exploring. They didn’t include a scene with ASL because they wanted to have a deaf character, they included it to make Fizz look good.
Something a lot of people have brought up about this kid—and rightfully so—is their age. What’s this 9 year old doing at the blow-out clown sex appeal concert? How did they get into the VIP section? Couldn’t you contrast the possessive critic guy with another adult who isn’t gross? Wouldn’t it make more sense if this character was an ADULT at the ADULT SHOW?
Yes! Yes it would! But would an adult signer garner half as many pity points as a young child with stars in their eyes? No. I doubt it would.
This scene is not here to show respect for deaf people. Just like the show doesn’t respect deaf people. I ask you to check out the captions for season 2 episode 6. Go on.
Because you know what you’ll find?
A bunch of loud, keysmashing inanity, that ignores describing what’s being said in favour of making queef jokes. These are not functional captions. For a show that prides itself on being just as professional as what you can find aired on TV or streaming, this is laughably bad. This is YouTube 2013 gaming jump scare compilations bad. And those captions are Still There DESPITE people pointing out that they’re not functional.
From a studio that’s fine with sabotaging their own captions I really shouldn’t be surprised with their treatment of ASL as sloppy, basic, and only really there for pandering.
Jesus Christ, do better.

So after watching S2:EP7 of Helluva boss, I can say that this was all so adorable and amazing, I loved the twins designs and their song it was amazing, Ozzie and Fizz just being all sweet is so cute and the fact Ozzie said he’d love Fizz no matter what made me smile, that creepy dude was really rude and I didn’t like him, but it did seem kinda personal about the things he said and I’m hoping Viv didn’t hear someone say that to her cause she doesn’t deserve that shit
but the thing that melted my heart the most was that Fizz knew sign language and took the time to talk to that deaf kid imp, it just shows how much Fizz cares about people, especially kids, I honestly thought he was gonna be one of the main villains but to watch him just be better and reconnect with Blitz just makes me so happy
In conclusion, I love this episode, “it made me had all in my feels”(yes that’s a reference I quote too often), also fuck Mammon, Fizz didn’t deserve that

Finally decided to watch the latest Helluva Boss episode, here's my thoughts:
The imp critic guy who is supposed to be based on Viv's critics is a trash character and shows that Viv can't take criticism
Mammon is an OK if boring antagonist
Same with Glitz and Glam
Kids are allowed at this concert for some reason even though this is a concert clearly not for kids.
....I actually kind of liked this episode. I'm serious, I actually thought this episode was...kind of good?
I liked Fizz's whole conflict here with wanting to prove that he's good enough and learning he doesn't need Mammon's approval
The songs were pretty damn good (aside from Fizz and Ozzy's song its fine but it wasn't necessary)
The moments between Fizz and Blitz in the beginning of the episode where they talk after leaving the concert was pretty cute
Same with the scene with Ozzy and Fizz in his dressing room
The deaf Imp scene (while flawed cuz why is a young kid watching a concert made for adults as I already said) was really nice.
This episode actually had a lot of good moments in it
There are no tonal or pacing issues to be seen here. It's paced incredibly well.
Fizz and Ozzie's relationship was really cute and well-handled...
....this is the best episode of the season so far
Am I still watching Helluva Boss season 2? That episode was pretty good. Not amazing or anything it still has flaws, but like, I was actually enjoying myself here. Maybe its because I was in a good mood or because I went into this episode with incredibly low expectations after watching episodes 3-6 (because let's be honest those episodes are some of the worst in the show), but like, I'm pleasantly surprised. Maybe...just maybe...there's hope for this season to improve...
Watch that statement age poorly once the next few episodes come out lmao. Sooo uh 7.5/10, probably a hot take in the critical community buuuut whatever.
EDIT: Also having the fat character fat shame the skinny ass character was weird, also Blitz, its bad when somebody fat shames Fizz but not Moxxie? What? Aside from that still a good episode though.
#helluva boss critical#helluva boss criticism#hazbin hotel critical#vivziepop critical#....I guess?#I don't know if I should tag this critical since it's a positive post but eh#helluva boss#hazbin hotel#vivziepop#mammon's magnificent musical

OH. MY. GOD.
I just watched the new episode of Helluva Boss and it was F**KING AMAZING!!! Like, the hype is real people!
I liked every aspect of it. From animation to characters to plot. ESPECIALLY the last two!
(Spoiler warning)
I really liked Fizz in this episode. Even more so than the previous one. I liked how we explore his life as a brand celebrity, how he has to deal with many things like pleasing Mammon in every possible way, his rivalries with other clowns, crazy mean haters who have the guts to humiliate him publicly (or even try to kill them for f**ks sake) etc. Which makes his 'F**K U' song and announcement of resigning all the more satisfying to watch. His interaction with deaf imp kid was the cutest thing in entire episode <3
Asmodeus is the best boyfriend Fizz is lucky to have. He always looks for Fizz's well being not caring for the flaws or expected perfections. He is not afraid to call him out as well as to confront Mammon after Fizz's resigning and after Mam mocks him for 'loving an imp'. He. Doesn't. Give. A. Sh*t. He loves Fizzy no matter what and that's not going to stop him!
Speaking of which, I really liked Mammon's introduction in this episode. We get to know him a little better, how he interacts with people, Fizz especially, and later with Ozzie. His voice is so fun to me it fits his character (can't tell if it's Australian or not). I kind of wonder if we're ever gonna see him again. Maybe as a minor villain in the future or just a glimpse of him. Who knows?
I also wanna mention Blitz in this post. Just like with Ozzie, Blitz is a great friend to Fizz who is ready to comfort him in a stressful situation, protect him from crazy obsessed hater (whom he kills in the end) and who saw through Mam's lies as well as not afraid to 'disrespect' him in the beginning. He was funny when calling Fizz and Ozzie 'hypocrites' and when asking them 'who tops?'
All in all, I loved this episode. It was mindblowing, tensed and above all, amazing. Kudos to Vivzie and her team for once again giving us this wonderful episode. I look forward for more of their work and upcoming episodes in the future.

"Mammon's Magnificent Musical Mid-Season Special featuring Fizzarolli" review
Let’s see Fizz handle Mammon’s BS. SPOILERS and long post warning
Well the video’s image already confirms Mammon is evil and seems to have an odd relationship with Fizz, but that was a given fact.
Teenage Fizz and Blitzo!
ITS KNIFEY!!!! KNIFEY IS MAMMON’S VOICE!
Let’s be honest, Mammon could have treated that Imp kid much worse so its nice to see him not.
I’d brag that I was right about Mammon exploiting Fizz, but that was obvious from the start.
You’d have to admire Mammon for being honest about his feelings.
The moon of the Greed ring is a giant coin, but it looks like a hologram of some kind to me.
So that’s why Fizz was cautious towards that fan on the “Ozzie’s” episode. I also feel like it’s a joke making fun of hardcore fans of a franchise, who think their ideas should become actual canon in said franchise.
Froggie? I get that’s its likely referencing how Fizz jumps around, but what’s wrong with Fizzy? Wait wasn’t Blitzo called that in “Western Energy”, and was insulted by it?
Obviously we all love seeing Ozzie care about Fizz’s happiness and wanting to protect him from his fans and Mammon, but I don’t fully believe Ozzie when he says he doesn’t want to build sex robots that look like him. Maybe he wants the robots for himself XD.
While Ozzie is talking to Blitzo, you can see one of his rooms having gear designs on the wallpaper. I know it’s been confirmed that he is a skilled inventor, but I like seeing that as it shows the writers are showing that he is more than just the embodiment of lust/Fizz’s boyfriend.
IDK about you but Ozzie’s new outfit makes him look like Valentino a bit. There has been a joke about how "Val is copying Ozzie" so maybe it’s a joke about that, just neither are copying each other and its just coincidence?
Just like Stolas can, Ozzie can become a pile/form of something, in this case fire. Could this be enough to confirm that he is part phoenix like I brought up before? I also feel like it’s a joke about the “flames of passion” saying.
Helsa von Eldritch!?!? Oh wait that's not her, just girls named Glitz and Glam. Apparently they are voiced by the VA who voiced Katie Killjoy in the pilot. I wonder if their audio will be used in future fan made Katie Killjoy funny vids?
What’s with the spider webs? Is Mammon supposed to be a spider demon? Could it be a refence to Angel Dust?
I’ve been waiting to talk about that scene of the girl getting her eyes burn ever since it appeared in the 2022 trailer. First off I can strangely see pics of her and that Imp she was on becoming a couple, if you ignore the sign she had. I could see a comic where he took her to a hospital which she finds sweet and then the rest is history. I can also see a comic where Lilith Morningstar forces Mammon to pay for her medical bills due to a combination of not liking Mammon and as revenge for his statement about women not being funny.
Mammon keeps claiming he never had a son, which I feel like is building up to the reveal of Wacky Wally being his son. Fingers crossed :3
Blitzo can still do the Spider-Man upside down hanging. That is going to make a lot of Blitzo X Stolas fans happy XD
The moment with the deaf child has to be the cutest moment in the season so far.
It’s that stalker guy from before, he surprisingly looks good after all that time.
MAMMON IS A SPIDER DEMON! Honestly I don’t really like that as we have enough animal demons as it is, so it would have been nice if he was similar to what Lucifer is, or a few of the fallen angels that still look like angels to some capacity.
Heh flying fishes XD. The song is also really nice too.
Why hasn’t Fizz tried calling Ozzie for emotional support?
You can see a game called Fizzopoly in the background. Knowing the real life Monopoly brand, I can see that becoming a real toy one day, or at least a Hazbin Hotel/Helluva Boss themed one. Would you buy it if it was a real thing?
There’s Ozzie. Also “character too big to get through door” cliché, but at least he can teleport to solve that problem.
There first “I love you” moment!
I know it was just played for fun, but I wonder if Blitzo (at this moment in time) is a bit jealous of Ozzie being with Fizz. That or he is just that neutral about it but he expresses it in insults.
I’m just noticing the electricity Mammon gives off. With Ozzie having fire, I wonder if this means the other sins have master of a certain element or something similar, except Lucifer who has mastery of all. Leviathan would obviously be water, Bee I think would have air via flapping wings, and maybe Satan could be Earth though that’s where my theory breaks down as we have seen Imps use and control fire too.
Wow 4 songs in 1 episode.
I wonder if this episode is giving us a glimpse of what Angel Dust is going to go through with Valentino in Hazbin Hotel?
Not really liking Mammon’s full demon form.
YES! THE FIGHT IS HAPPENING!
Wait is that Ozzie’s full demon form? It looks more like a power up. Hopefully that is the case and maybe one day we can see a proper full demon form.
Wally is there, thus ending the “Mammon is Wally in disguised” theory. Still think they could be father and son.
Muppet Fizz meme parody. Still hoping for a Ozzie as Cookie Monster parody someday. Also one of the guys 3 phones has a text saying “expect fan art soon”, once again showing how self-aware the writers are about the fandom.
WAIT NO FIGHT!! DAMMIT!!
Mammon says Ozzie is going to regret revealing his feelings to everyone, but I don’t see how Ozzie is going to face consequences for his actions. The only thing I can think of is a scenario where the other sins make the two go through an investigation similar to that one episode of “Parks and Recreation” just to see if Ozzie did something big for Fizz via favoritism that could be unfair for other demons or worst case scenario, get Hell in trouble with Heaven. Is it possible that the Goetia community could use this somehow, like overthrow Ozzie, or something related to what’s going on with Blitzo and Stolas? Could this start some kind of war, like Mammon has lost some profits (like $100 worth) and just decides the best thing to do is kidnap Fizz and force him to work for him? Mammon is pretty dumb, so I could see him doing such a thing.
I hope we see the twins come back one day. I could definitely see them becoming rivals of Verosika Mayday.
Looks like Ozzie platonically likes Blitzo now, if him smiling about his sexual question is any indication. I wonder if this will result in Ozzie trying to help Blitzo and Stolas get together!
Another great episode. I really liked how I was another episode centered around a reoccurring character like Fizz with little to no Blitzo, which is good from time to time. I also think having the VA of Knifey being the VA for Mammon is a perfect fit.
I definitely love that I was pretty close to getting the plot of the episode right, while also improving on it such as having Fizz wanting to try and be the best for himself instead of being blinded by idolizing Mammon.
The biggest thing I disliked about the episode was that we didn’t get to see Ozzie and Mammon fight, I mean come on we were so close. Maybe if we had less songs we could have gotten it. I also didn't like Mammon and Ozzie's demon forms as they don't look that different compared to seeing Stolas go all demon. Hopefully that was some kind of mid transformation, as turning into their fun demon form could have destroyed the whole area alone.
According to the order of upcoming Helluva Boss episodes, looks like the next episode will be a Stolas episode, and with the name “The Full Moon” it sounds like we will learn a bit more about Stolas’ book and FINALLY learn why he needs it on such nights. It’s also likely going to have Stolas and Blitzo get on better terms and maybe start off as being friends this time before becoming a couple later in the season.
I think it would be fitting to have the episode come out on the day/night of an acutal Full Moon, like the creators of Helluva Boss use to do with the character instagram accounts.
What were your thoughts on the episode?

A little detail in the newest episode of helluva boss,
I wonder if it is intentional or not
Fizz is communicating with a small kid imp with sign language and I wonder if it is because he himself was deaf for a brief moment in his life or he is using hearing aids
Fizz had an accident which involved explosion, and it is common for explosions to cause hearing loss so maybe he went deaf after it and later on he started using hearing aids or regain his hearing after a while
I am not sure food for thought

Actually it's showed in S1 that most characters of Helluva Boss are HellBorn. Those who aren't are the I.M.P.'s clients who want to take revenge of humans in the living world.
Also, Imp people have red skin + white or black hair + striped horns, Sinners don't have this appearance. It's obvious that the kid is the same race as Moxxie, Millie, Blitz and Fizz, and it was always clear that they were never humans.
I'm not a try-hard fan so I might be wriong but what I understood is that : Helluva Boss is more about Imps and other Hellborns while Hazbin Hotel has mostly Sinners (ex-humans) as main characters.
And okay we could use more explainations and details about the universe, I'm not saying everything is obvious. But at least the thing with the deaf kid is.
Whenever a Helluva Boss episode releases, there are a lot of tweets that, unfortunately, aren't very knowledgeable about Vivziepop's interpretation of Hell and frankly, I can't blame them.
These quote tweets just prove how poorly written the overall world building of Helluva Boss is. This scene is nice, but a lot of users are EXTREMELY confused, especially about the different types of demons and what really goes on in Hell.
Most of the information about Hellborns and the other Rings will have to be looked up on the Wiki page or through other YouTube videos. The viewers shouldn't have to do outside research to figure out what's going on within the show.
If the creator of a show is unable to effectively communicate what's going on within the world IN the show, then they've failed as a creator and a writer. Because only the die-hard fans or people who desperately seek answers are willing to find said answers, and then they have to explain it to the new fans because the show failed to do that.

I have to partly disagree with you, although you do have a point and noticed what I did too.
The fact that the signing randomly went from good to very lacking + the awful captions. It's so confusing to me. It knew right away that someone helped with ASL, because a hearing person could never (I mean ppl who don't know anything about SL, don't eat me, you know what I mean).
For the most part, the signs weren't too complex, but correct and common, and I liked that tbh. It was easy to read for people. I feel like "fan" is a hard word for non ASL speakers to figure out, so I guessed someone helped + Fizz was addressed by a unique name which was so cool to see. If they just finger-spelled F-I-ZZ that would have been pretty boring to me. We actually share this nickname, and I loved seeing matching names being different when signed, so this made me super happy <3
Unfortunately after that the signing went downhill for some reason.
Like you mentioned, just saying "A clown just like you!" is super vague. There's no pronouns used, no "want", no anything. Obviously you can guess from context, but that's not good enough.
[Edit: no idea why I said there's no pronouns when I even marked them in the GIF. Sign "Same as" already has the pronouns in it depending on who you're pointing to.]
In ASL slang, "True Biz" or "True business" means something like "Seriously!! I mean it!" "No bullshit!". It a combination of the signs "real"/"true" and "work"/"business" (biz).
What Fizz said isn't exactly wrong and it's a really cool addition to put true biz here, but I feel like this could have been better said. For example add that he can do what ever he dreams about. Or really anything that would turn this into what it was supposed to be, and not "You can do what you want" or "If you want something, you can do it!". Not very poetic, is it?
To me it's obvious that Fizz's name and some signs had to be done by a person who uses the language. Otherwise they wouldn't even think of using slang and sign name. But I really feel like they just asked for help where they couldn't figure it out on their own and did rest by just googling or something. That's what it feels like.
And then we have the problem of subtitles that I haven't seen anyone talking about. When people did mention it, it was hearing people who had a blast and talked about how much they liked it, but I had problems with following what was happening, because of weirdly described sounds and big chunks of captioner's notes. That's not okay. The irony of the fact that fans can no longer create caption on YouTube, leaving only what the creator did and auto-cap because of captioner's notes. AND THEY FUCKING MAKE THE PROBLEM WORSE?!
When YT took the option for viewers to make captions nobody cared about what HoH and deaf community had to say, only saying that we still have the automatic and live captions that "work better than ever". Yeah and they still work like shit. It's just not funny and people should receive backlash from this type of situation. Imagine if Netflix this something like this. If HB wants to be treated like a professional show, then act like it.
It is true that Helluva Boss is a unique show and I for one like two funny captions. This:
And the one on the credits card. Cute, short, simple. If they were the only one it that episode, than fine. But unfortunately they weren't. Truly disappointing to see. Thankfully it's already fixed.
As for the role of this scene, I do think it was meaningful and was there for a reason. I didn't see it as just put there to have a previesly villain-ish character be seen as nicer and all that stuff.
Fizz was a disabled teenager who wanted to be the greatest clown of his times. He ended up being used and corrupted. He saw hope in that kid. He saw himself. He saw for who really he wanted to perform. I don't think it would be as impactful to him if it was regular, healthy, child imp.
Fizz having a sign name does have an interesting implications that he had problem with speaking or hearing or was involved in the community in some way. I would love to see something like that, but I know that won't happen.
