and what if i AM thinking about the way todd was able to assert himself TWICE with neither neil nor charlie (the two most outspoken in the group) there to push him.
and what if i AM thinking about the way pitts takes a look right at neil's desk before standing up.

Bro, dead poets society was something. Why the hell did Neil's dad blame everyone but himself?!? What a fucking pussy. He's a bitch fr. And Cameron is such a narc man.
Also, on a side note: was Nuwanda bipolar or something? He seemed manic for most of the film. He just seemed, off? Yk?

If I ever meet Robert Sean Leonard irl, I'm going to ask him what his reaction was to seeing the Dead Poets Society reference in the season finale of House. Because fuck, that just seems like it would be a very emotional moment, to be thinking back on a time when you were acting as an elder teen in an emotionally charged movie where the character you are playing DIES! Like knowing that the character you are currently playing is ALSO DYING!
#learning more about him as a person tho I feel he would have laughed a little#like an almost awkward hesitant laugh#a sort of ironic laugh if you will#robert sean leonard#house md#house md spoilers#dead poets society#dead poets society spoilers#do do do still very high clearly#for the record I actually sang the 'do do do' in my head when I typed it#both times >.>

i know it's popular to stop dead poets society right after the play ends but for me, knowing how it ends, i just can't feel happy during the play scene. i feel like if i were to stop watching and pretend that nothing bad happens i'd have to stop after the desk set scene bc every time i watch the second half of the movie i can just feel all of the shitty things that haven't happened yet but inevitably will building up that by the time we get to the play i know that there is no way things won't end badly. i can't imagine that neil just goes back to welton and his father decides to accept the acting and charlie doesn't get expelled and keating doesn't get fired because at that point they're already doomed.

thinking about how if neil perry hadnt killed himself, and instead been removed from walten and sent to military school, ended up a doctor like his father wanted... like. that would be the worlds most depressed man on earth. no way to reconnect with his closest friends. no way to ever follow his passion anymore. no support. that would be a husk of the neil we see earlier in the movie.

I love hearing people ramble, especially about things im interested in 🗣️🗣️
I watched this movie after my finals and ended up sobbing my eyes out to a can of soda.
This movie is genuinely so carpe diem, for the lack of better word,,,
the part where neil finally plays a role in the theatre as ‘seizing the day’— except it just ends in a disaster. The moment he finally goes ‘carpe diem’, he is only met with the cruel fate of reality. (Not saying that the cave shenanigans, etc is not at least a bit of ‘carpe diem’ but this is like the ULTIMATE CARPE DIEM AHAHA)
AND TODD’S POEM SCENE. i could watch that for hours ‼️‼️I LOVED MR KEATINGS HERE OMG???THE PART WHERE IT GOES LIKE “forget them, forget them, stay on the blanket, tell me about the blanket.” IT DOES SOMETHING TO MEEE
I cannot for the life of me put my thought into words😭😭
u are so right with neil 😭 his story is so tragic and i honestly don’t think i can ever get past it :”) the adults in his life were absolute scum and he was too good for this world.
BROO THE POEM SCENE. IT IS ICONIC FOR A REASON!!!! like, our creativity is only hindered by ourselves and what we believe to be our limit, and with mr keating helping todd overcome his anxieties even just for a bit, todd managed to soar and succeed.
everybody deserves a mr keating in their life, i hope we can find ours one day :]
here are some recommendations btw, if u find yourself yearning for something similar to this masterpiece of a movie:
a separate peace (book)
good will hunting (movie)
les choristes (movie)
the browning version (movie)
the goldfinch (book)
the secret history (book. for the academia vibes. i love this one.)
to sir with love (movie)
there is obviously also the breakfast club & the outsiders, but u seem like the type of person who has watched those already 😋
#TBH THO if my teacher did that to me in front of everyone i would’ve just cried 💀#thank u for indulging me btw#i forgot how fun it was to scream abt movies with someone 😭#bumbles from the hive !#the bee says hi !#dead poets society spoilers

ur so real for this, i actually watched dps for the first time in my english class and we had to pick a character to write an analysis about. my teacher encouraged us not to write about neil because he thought that since neil offed himself at the end he wouldnt be a good character to write about the development of.
so naturally i wrote about neil and why hes incredibly important to the story
Live laugh love john keating but clasping your hands over the face of an anxiety riddled teenager who’s on the verge of tears as you continually bombard him with questions to make him come up with an entire poem on the spot in front of 25 classmates defo added another heap of trauma

the pain i feel when i think of dps is so bad, but i’m so interested as to why everyone feels this way. why do we all feel genuine loss towards neil? why do we all feel sadness start to grow whenever we think about the movie too much? is it because of how real it felt? how the scenes were shot and the dialogue was read? was it the settings? the actors? perhaps the fact that the story was just a part of their lives and that there was no happy ending? or that we’ve all felt as low as neil has and have all been at that point? when the snow’s falling and the night is chill we’ve all gone down that rabbit hole of thought and wondered how people would react, and his friends’ reactions were so raw and real. the movie properly captures and portrays a certain type of reality that we can relate to, even if we’ve never been there. the heaviness of the topics accompanied by the actor’s acting makes us all live it in such a heartbreaking way. something like this has happened before and will happen a million times more, and we’re helpless to stop it. we were helpless to stop neil, and we’ll be helpless to stop everyone else. hell, even neil’s friends couldn’t save him. i think the fact that neil was this happy, go lucky guy who always had a smile on his face was what hit the most. no one could stop what was coming, and no one truly saw it coming. even throughout the movie todd was the one with the more prominent issues, however neil was the one to step forward and do the unimaginable. neil was trapped and the only way he saw out was, well, out. and everyone can relate to that.

dps is such an autumn/winter staple, but it always breaks my heart that neil perry never got to see the spring.
neil died when it was dark and the trees were bare and the cold raged outside his window and he never got to see the sun rise or the flowers bud. early spring is when the world itself begins to hope, ease into the gentleness it deserves. it breaks me that neil perry never got to see that.

People who hate richard cameron have completely missed the point of the movie.
and you can all say “but richard cameron is an asshole and he disrespected Mr.keating so much by ratting on him 🥺”
first of all, cameron isn’t a asshole, he is misunderstood. Throughout the whole movie he gets made fun of for things he likes and HIS way of seizing the day. Even though the whole movie is about conformity but that doesn’t seem to matter because every one pushes cameron in to a box to carpe diem the way the rest of the group likes or sees fit.
And the argument that he was disrespecting Keating is crazy, cause he didn’t. Seizing the day means living life to the fullest and everyone hates on cameron for LIVING LIFE THE WAY HE WANTS?!?!THATS NOT DISRESPECTING! THATS LIVING BY WHAT KEATING SAYS?!?!
Yes cameron did rat on Keating but you have to realize he is a kid. I hate people who say “i don’t gaf if he was a kid” as a come back because it’s literally the most annoying response ever. Charlie is a prime example of this. When Charlie “chokes on the bone” as Keating says that shows that Keating wants his students to live life to the fullest but with some regulations set in place for safety. Cause at the end of the end Charlie is impressionable and a kid. Cameron is too. He sees one of his best friends die, not by an accident but by SUCIDE?!?! and he is told by adults that can have a strong impression on kids that “Mr.Keating was to blame”.
I’m not standing up for what cameron did cause it was fucked up but charlie did the same thing but every cameron hater glazes charlie for it. Charlie ratted first because his ego is just as tall as pitts but no one is mad at him right? Why is no one mad?? Cause Charlie made a red lighting bolt on his chest with lipstick and is the edgy bad boy.
I’m not saying I hate Charile but he isn’t the most perfect person ever, just like all the characters, they all have flaws because peter weir wanted them to be real. That’s why we feel so drawn to every character because even though they aren’t real they feel real by having flaws and character traits that connect with audiences of all ages.
Throughout the movie Cameron is again pushed into a box set by his friends, his only friends. Cameron likes school and learning but his friends see it as torture so to break free from this they write poetry, act, rebel but cameron doesn’t like that. That’s just not his way of seizing the day but peer pressure is real and he forces himself to be comfortable with it. He says he likes the clarinet, he gets laughed at, he joins in on scary story time, and they dismiss him off telling him they already heard it.
Everything is an attack on cameron because he doesn’t like what everyone else likes. When you get peer pressured into doing things repeatedly your peers who are pressuring you start to pick up on this and distance themselves from you because you are “different”. So cameron knows neil’s dad is shit but how would he know he is to blame for suicide? How would he know neil felt so strongly about acting and not just using it as a rebellion like Charlie? He wouldn’t because he could’ve never known with the barrier between him and the rest of the group.
From the 4/5 months they’ve known keating here’s what’s happened leading up to neil’s death:
-Knox sneaking out to go to parties and getting drunk af (another example of peer pressure)
-All of them sneaking out to go to the cave
-Neil going against his dads wishes which he has never done before
-Charile gets more rebellious
-Charlie gets threatened with expulsion
-Cameron gets made fun of more but Todd the new comer gets treated with respect
-Neil fakes a letter from his dad
-Neil is happy at the play
-Neil is pronounced dead the next morning
Neil never acted out before. When he finally did by the guidance of Keating, he died. Which is not keatings fault! I believe from the moment Junior year started Neil was planning to die. That’s why he was so demandent on Todd speaking up for himself, Neil wanted someone else to enjoy life because he was done living it. For his last final months Neil had he did Seize the day by doing something he loves. He spent his last days happy and the only one to blame is society for making neil a victim to the subject of conformity .
Cameron is not to blame, he is victim as-well. Just like Todd, Charlie, Knox, Pitts, and Meeks. They all were subjected to some type of conformity, that’s the point of this movie. Break free from the ties society expects from you and live the way you want too.
Cameron is such a well written character and how could you hate a someone played by dylan kussman 😔🙏. Dylan is literally my father idk what you mean???
