I don't live in Maine nor am I a fish expert, but I'm wondering if maybe it was a type of monkfish? Apparently they live around there

[ID: Three photos of monkfish. They're different greenish-brownish colors and they're sort of flat like they're decompressed. They have tiny teeth and visible gums, as well as spines on their backs and tiny frills around the circumference of their bodies. The fishes' eyes are on the sides of their heads but are in a position which makes them seem front-facing. End ID.]
Anyone on here who knows fish is this description anything to you because I got to this bit of Charlie Slimecicle playing Dredge and am consumed by a need for answers

Images from the herpetology section of the university of Michigan zoological collections museum.
I have mixed feelings about voucher specimens, I didn't love being around all of these dead things, but this was really cool.
The University of Michigan, supposedly, has the largest voucher collection of caecilians institution in the United States (and possibly the world?).
They have a CT scanner and 3-D printer on site, and produced this model of a caecilian skull right there.
This facility is not open to the general public, but there was a tour for the SSAR herpetology conference.
* some highlights for me were this Sicilian collection, a thorny devil, the skull model, and the huge paradoxical frog tadpole (which is bigger than the adult frog).

I consider it a golden opportunity to be able to have another black coyote in my hands! She has been skinned and is in the freezer now to tan later!

Analia the Bee
Tumblr media
I made this after finding a bee that I thought was dead, but was actually still alive, barely.
I don't usually name my specimens, but I asked my best friend if she wanted a bee named after her and she said "yes" (btw her name is pronounced "ah-nah-LEE-ah", not "an-NAH-lia").
Of all the animals I've found, this one made me the saddest.
Here are some pictures of the bee right after I found it and thought it was dead:

And here are some pictures I took of it today:

As flu cases spike in Florida ERs, the CDC issues new guidance to identify bird flu
Left over from Biden. 47 has barred all communication about infectious disease because the numbers might make him look bad. Republicans broadly believe it is better to let large numbers of people die than to warn them about risk so they can take precautions.
I'm including animal stuff in here because it crosses species.
I noticed the forage boxes contained no eggs this week. I know the price is skyrocketing because of the bird flu. I am worried we won;t be able to get Livia's special food. Meanwhile Trump and RFK Jr. want to let people sell infected raw milk and don't care who is harmed or killed.

CW: Dead Pets
I beg of you do not drink raw milk.

Note
saw a few jars of baby sharks there, is that normal?????
Tumblr media
all were also individually priced???
I have no idea what place you're talking about, I think you may have sent this to the wrong person, but $27.99 a jar seems fair enough to me, I guess?

I picked up my entire artstyle because I wanted to draw a love heart with a pattern on for a boy I liked when I was 11 😭 I left it in his bookbag unsigned and when he was trying to figure out who it was he said it had to have been a girl who was good at drawing and I was secretly like 🥰🥰🥰🥰 because no one had said I was good at drawing before
Anyway I got over the crush like a week later because he threw an entire dead badger at me and it exploded
he WHAT

Building collisions kill 300 million to a billion birds each year, and many of these needless deaths can be prevented.
This Bird-Safe Buildings Act is a common-sense solution to help birds avoid collisions with buildings by promoting bird-friendly materials and design features at federal buildings.
Please urge your U.S. Representative to cosponsor and support the Bird-Safe Buildings Act.

Just conceptualizing a photo book, like I conceptualized my general audience science book Carcass: On the Afterlives of Animal Bodies all those years ago. Carcass should be on shelves by 2025, published by MIT Press.
I thought a photo book would be fun since I have thousands of photos of carcasses with enough fascinating context that I can write detailed captions of them, as well. A photo book of animal remains is, of course, uniquely challenging in comparison to a text-based book because...well, it really is lifting the veil.
