🎄 Natale a Tribschen [1870]
Le vacanze di Natale 1870 erano trascorse, come quelle dell’anno precedente dal 24 dicembre al 2 gennaio, a Tribschen, ospite di Richard e Cosima Wagner. La mattina del 25 Wagner ha fatto eseguire una sua composizione musicale, l’Idillio di Tribschen in seguito rinominato Idillio di Sigfrido, per il compleanno di Cosima. Nietzsche regala a Wagner Il cavaliere, la morte e il diavolo, un’incisione di Albrecht Dürer, e a Cosima una nuova stesura de La visione dionisiaca del mondo. Riceve in dono da lui un’edizione completa dei Saggi di Montaigne e il primo esemplare di un adattamento per pianoforte del primo atto del Sigfrido, da lei Le passeggiate di Roma di Stendhal.

Non è dato sapere se  [Friedrich Nietzsche (1844-1900)] avesse già letto i Saggi prima del Natale del 1870, quando Cosima Wagner gli dona un esemplare. In Ecce homo dichiara di ritornare con assiduità a pochi «vecchi francesi» e in particolare al «libero pensiero» di Montaigne che è sempre stato il suo ristoro. In Schopenhauer educatore non manca di sottolineare quanto la lettura dei Saggi gli abbia aumentato il piacere di vivere e procurato una salda intesa con il loro autore su dove andare a cercare la vera patria di una nuova umanità.
